Azula + Lin AU "Bad Dreams"

Azula: NOOOOO!!!!

[Azula wakes up in the middle of the night soaked in sweat. Almost immediately, Lin barges in.]

Lin: Kid! You alright?!

Azula: I...I'm fine, Lin.

[Skeptical, Lin sits on the side of Azula's bed]

Lin: You woke up screaming. How's that alright?

Azula: I said I'm fine!

[The two glare at each other, before Azula sighs.]

Azula: I had a bad dream, alright? It's nothing to worry about. Everyone has them.

Lin: Not everyone wakes up screaming though.

Azula: ...I had a dream that I was in chains. Locked away in some dark corner of that asylum. Then Zuko yanks me out, reveals that he had me replaced with a better sister, then tossed me off a cliff after setting me on fire. Lin: Holy shit. Azula: Hey. I practically put myself in that asylum in the first place. [To her surprise, Lin draws her into a tight hug.] Lin: Look kid. I’ve…had a lot of nightmares too. I know, I know, seems crazy. But some of the stuff I’ve seen, some of the prisons I’ve been to…I can’t get them out of my head. So you’re not alone in this. Azula: But…but I- Lin: Trust me. Not everyone I saw in those hellholes deserve to be in there. [Both sit in silence.] Lin: (sighs) You…uh…want to sleep with me tonight? Azula: You’re serious. Lin: Hey, it’s the first and last chance you get. Besides, I need to get up early in the morning. I don’t exactly want you waking me up all night long. Azula: …I’d like that. [Azula sleeps with Lin that night, clutching the older woman. She slept a lot better the rest of the night, with Lin’s strong arms and steady heartbeat making her feel safe.]

Firstborn child of Katara and Haru

Green eyes, brown hair; resembles Katara the most

Temper like Katara, but lacks her caring and nurturing nature. Blunt and to the point like Haru. Can come off as rude, but that's not her intention. Her mouth got her in constant trouble as a child. Loved probending as a child and looked up to Toph

Probender (later Manager of the Probending Arena)

Lesbian

*Notes: I like canon Kya just fine. But similarly to Katara, I feel like LOK really just didn't bother to do much with her. She's mainly there to give Tenzin a reality check and reaffirm that Aang was a shitty father. So I really just built her up mainly from scratch. You can resonate her with canon Kya or think of her as a completely different character. Katara was always going to name her first daughter Kya, so to me it makes no difference. Also, I made her a lavabender instead of a metalbender to match her temper*

Tyro:

He/Him

Nonbender (Chi-blocker)

Firstborn and only son of Katara and Haru (middle child)

Blue eyes, brown hair; looks a lot like Sokka

Calm demeanor like Haru, but empathetic and softhearted like Katara. The most sensitive of his siblings, but also the nicest. Learned Chi-blocking from the Kyoshi Warriors after visiting Kyoshi Island for the summer. Very interested in law and politics from watching his mom

Attorney, President of Republic City

Sexuality undetermined, closest guess is pansexual

*Notes: Tyro loves his sapphic aunts (Mai and Ty Lee). I like to think of him as that friend that's always there for you, even when they're going through hell (but not parentified like Katara). Why did I make him president? I don't know*

Suma:

She/They (I know I wrote daughter, but she doesn't mind being referred to as daughter or sister by her family)

Waterbender (Healer)

Youngest child of Katara and Haru

Blue eyes, brown hair; looks like Haru (same complexion as his mother)

Finds it hard to understand emotion, doesn't pay attention (spaces out when people are talking, can't focus on classes that don't interest her in school, etc.). Comes off cold, even to her family. Most assume they don't care about anything. It was a shock when she chose to become a Healer, but her patients usually love her

Healer at the Republic City Hospital, Head Healer at the Republic City Hospital

Aromantic

*Notes: Suma is probably way closer to canon Kya than my Kya is. But they're also a lot less emotionally invested in people than Kya. They're definitely on the spectrum in case you couldn't tell*

Lin Beifong (basically the same as canon):

She/Her

Earthbender (Metalbender)

Firstborn child of Aang and Toph

Green eyes, black hair; resembles Toph

Grouchy, tough, and a hardass like Toph, but has a strong sense of fairness like Aang. Bosses her siblings around. Butts heads constantly with Suyin because of this. Studied under her Aunt Suki to become an officer

Republic City Police Officer , Republic City Chief of Police

Bisexual

*Notes: As you can see, I didn't change much about Lin. The biggest thing is probably that she didn't become a police officer to impress Toph, she did it because of her own sense of justice. I love that for her*

Tenzin Beifong (basically the same as canon):

He/Him

Firstborn son and second born child of Aang and Toph

Airbender

Gray eyes, black hair; resembles Aang

Tries to be calm, but has a short fuse. Feels like he has to live up to being the only Airbending child of the Avatar. Can be distant with his family because of this, especially Aang. Finds it hard to connect with his siblings

United Republic of Nations Councilman

*Notes: Tenzin is way more of a black sheep here than the golden child in canon. Him and Aang having a hard relationship because of the expectations placed on him is one thing I'm very proud of. I think he feels like he has to be this perfect son and feels like he can't approach Aang about it. And Toph is a less than understanding person, so he can't really talk to her either. His biggest regret is never opening up to his father before he died. So he suffers in silence (lmao)*

Suyin Beifong (basically the same as canon):

She/Her

Third child of Aang and Toph

Earthbender (Metalbender)

Brown hair, green eyes; resembles both Toph and Aang (has the complexion of Toph's father)

Free-spirited and fun-loving like Aang, but extremely stubborn and hates rules like Toph. Very clever and innovative, a troublemaker as a kid. Clashes with Lin heavily due to her issues with authority and competes with her. Leaves Republic City (of her own volition) to travel the world and creates Zaofu and the Metal Clan

Leader/Founder of Zaofu, Head of the Metal Clan

Demisexual

*Notes: I'll be honest, I love Su and think she's over hated in canon. Maybe it's because I see a lot of myself in being the youngest child and having a bossy and condescending older sister. But anyway, her backstory is one of my favorites in the show, so that's why I didn't feel the need to change it too much. Also, her choosing to travel the world similar to how the Air Nomads did is a nice touch with Aang being her father. Although, a fight with Toph might have been what made her leave, I'm not sure. Demi because I can't see her loving anyone she doesn't share a deep, personal connection to like Bataar*

Bumi Beifong (slight changes to canon)

He/Him

Youngest child of Aang and Toph

Nonbender

Gray eyes, black hair; resembles both Toph and Aang

Extremely intelligent ("mad genius"), but absolutely can't take anything seriously. Prankster, the bane of Lin and Tenzin's existences. Looks up to Aang and is very close with Su, drives Toph crazy. Very interested in combat, war, and strategy

Soldier in the Second Division of the United Forces, Commander in the Second Division of the United Forces

Gay

*Notes: Nothing you guys say or do will ever convince me that Bumi isn't a man kisser*

Lian:

She/Her

Only child of Sokka and Suki

Waterbender (+Chi-blocker)

Blue eyes, auburn hair; looks like Suki but has Sokka's complexion

Playful personality, loves bad and corny jokes. Easygoing for the most part, but knows when to get serious. Trains with the Kyoshi Warriors like Tyro does

Firefighter, Chief of the Southern Water Tribe

Pansexual

*Notes: I love Lian a lot. It's so weird that Sokka of all characters didn't have kids. Out of everyone, I would think it would be Toph. So I obviously gave him one with Suki. I don't think I said so in the Gaang post, but yes she's a Waterbender. Also, why are both her and Tyro pan? The Kyoshi Island affect, it's something in the water*

Izumi (basically the same as canon):

She/Her

Only child of Zuko and Jin

Suspected Firebender, unconfirmed

Amber eyes, brown hair; mostly resembles Jin

A calm, rational person. Loves history. Painfully non-violent because of that history. Her heart is to the Fire Nation and repairing the damage her country has done. She also has a deep love for Ba Sing Se because that's where her mother is from. Some might call her reserved before they get to know her, to her friends she's one of the nicest people ever

No one knows if she's actually a Firebender or not, she's never confirmed or denied it even to her closest friends. Doesn't feel the need to. Looks at it like a political strategy; no one can say she's favoring benders or nonbenders. She is a master swordswoman, though

Archeologist, Historian, Fire Lord

*Notes: I decided not to choose if Izumi's a bender or nonbender. I like the theory that she keeps is secret in canon as a political move. I don't know if they kept it vague in canon on purpose, but I like it that way. I kind of based her off Nico Robin from One Piece*

Weasley Siblings As Firebender Types

In honor of returning to a convention again, after so many health issues stopped me, let's get self-indulgent!

For the sake lore wise, lets say this is in a modern setting

William 'Bill'

Obviously, mans will have that burned up face situation. Given, but in a setting wise he would be up the ladder and given the designated duty to study the history of the past. One of the few people who are trying to recover the airbending culture, and in charge of helping with items tampered with by bad karama/spirites. Meaning he is very close to the spiritual side, and more than likely using his bending as a means to mend things. Such as heating broken metal. An almost pacifist life style, which could have been influnced by how much hes learned through trying to help recover ancient history. Almost, A Pacifistic lifestyle. Recover what was lost. It would even be seen in his bending style, as he would be more intuned with air and water. Connected to the spirits, and it’ll show. You mess with him, well. Be careful next full moon buddy. Wouldn’t be a surprise if he pulled a Blue Spirit to steal back stolen artifacts

Charlie

He is the reason why the dragons have not gone extinct . He was specially chosen by the very dragons to help protect them. Running a special santuary on a island to keep them away, as to repair their nature. By this manner, he would have rainbow sparks in his flames. A sign that he is intuned with the dragons. Rasied by them, eats with them, he is much dragon as he is a bender. Having any visitors is esentially impossible, unless absolutly needed. Well, the weasley family would be allowed. Kin to their kin after all. He also would be extremely warm to the touch. Like I mean you throw a snow ball at him, it’s gonna start steaming. Mans a dragon. That would also mean he’s connected rather close to the spirit world. Not like Bill, but to say they haven’t been able to communicate through such a way is a lie. Just because he’s built like a jock doesn’t mean he’s dumber than a brick. Boy will he use that underestimation to his advantage in battle

Percy

Sorry guys, we know its true. He would climb the ranks, and get a bit intense. He will take pride in his nation, and need to have his family bring him back to earth alot. He would even be able to learn how to produce blue flames, in order to show his strength and determination to show the pride of his nation. Keep a close eye on him. He may be soon joining the Ozai Cult! A high ranking man he would be. Not in the military setting, but certainly working close to whatever lord is at attention at the time. Perhaps in charge of strategies for war, or works as a royal advisor. He’s important, but his own ego will cause some rifts. His connection to the spirit world is very weak, and that will be his down fall

Fred and George

They would have mastered combustion, and lighting bending. What do they do with such extreme skills? Cause mischief. They would more so run a fire work shop, and show you the beauty that fire can offer. Obviously they gotta be a dynamic of red and blue as well. Duh. They are always inventing, and would certainly be friends with everyone they can. Probs have Ty Lee genes in there somewhere even, and that’s how they are so charismatic. They can literally see your vibe, and know how to match it. As stereotypical as it is, they would have an extremely strong connection to the spirit world. As being identical twins. Which was perhaps how they were able to tap into such deep potential so young. They certainly are people you go to for advice. Be lucky they have that Ty Lee energy and are vibing. instead of being the next Azula

Ron

100% knows how to Lava bend. ((And of course the cliché that he would be teaching the next Avatar Fire bending/Helping master the element because duh)) But genuinely, he has a very earth bender personality. It would translate in his bending style, and a beautiful way to show he’s not like his siblings. He is just as much special, and different. He can handle his own, and out right manipulate a middle ground element. Earth benders better look out, he’s going to show you why you don’t mess with Weasleys. As for his spiritual connection, it’s faulty. Until he bonds with Hermione, and gets grounded again. He’s no where close like his older siblings, but his will to learn is what gives the realm a special place in their hearts for him. He’s trying, and that’s all that matters. In the end

Ginny

10000% Takes it to the levels of sportsmanship. Along with Jet Projection, and can manipulate her fire to help her fly. That sure startles her opponents. Though, but proxy it means she isn’t as spiritually connected as she should be. Hey, that’s what Luna is for anyway. She knows how to kick ass, even with out her fire bending. She wanted to know how to defend herself after all. Wouldn’t be a surprise if she had a Kyoshi Fan in her back pocket. She loves to learn any way to fight, and certainly learned different elements fighting styles. Able to keep her opponents on their toes, and understand how they move and work. She is proud of her power, but her connection to the spirits needs work. But, that’s where family comes in. Luna, and her brothers, will always have her back. And she will have theirs. You can count on it, that’s for sure

The group arrives in the Southern Water Tribe and while Asami ponders the feelings of foreboding she's been experiencing, Korra mulls over her past and tries to secure her future at Future Industries.

Can you elaborate on Bumi in the fog au?

Yeah no so it's like. 0 thoughts full vibes na?

Basically I kind of imagine they are unable to find Bumi in the fog but also because the clock is kind of ticking and Jinora is clearly the priority here, they have to leave.

And because S3 happens like... 2 weeks (I think) after S2, I like to think everything happened so hurriedly that they couldn't go and search for Bumi. Which is uhm. Tragic.

And then Korra gets poisoned and all yknow, so they really can't just go and find him. Like Tenzin and Jinora try, but without Korra there to negotiate as the Avatar, it just doesn't happen. And add to this they don't ask Korra for help because Korra is literally living with the mother and sister of the guy who got stuck in the Spirit World because of her.

So in the end of S4, it's not as much K/A go on vacation but more like Korra and Tenzin go the Spirit World, get Bumi back, and uhhhh. I've got 0 thoughts after that.

I just know it's a lot of angst and hurt/comfort and I just liked seeing him in situations teehee

Danny in the ATLA/TLOK world

How well would he manage as himself? Would he suddenly be considered a water bender? A fire bender? A new form of energy bending? A spirit bender? There’s so much possibility here!

I’m also a huge huge fan of overpowered Danny so perhaps he starts out that way with his typical powers but as people he encounters learn his starting style he begins to change as a result of learning bending styles of fighting, too!

This isn’t even mentioning if others have powers and show up!

Imagine Sam being a new type of earth bender primarily controlling plantlife!

Tucker with electricity- maybe even sand? -as his sole bending ablility!

If Jazz doesn’t just have weapons or the same as Danny then maybe she discovers her talent for blood bending! That sounds like a dream for badass angsty Jazz lovers!

And if they’re each halfas or liminal they’d all have a bunch of overpowered abilities at first!

Just because you lost your bending, doesn't mean you've lost your fight.

Korra and Tahno find themselves coping with the loss of their bending in a mutually destructive way. They can't probend; but they can still train, they can still fight. There's no ref in the arena to tell them how hard they're allowed to punch or kick or bite— Every shot counts as long as it lands.

Kyalin modern AU where Lin is still a cop but Kya is kind of rebellious, like motorcycle riding, carefree, lawbreaking punk.

The two knew each other back in high school when Lin briefly dated Tenzin, but were in different social crowds and totally lost touch afterwards. Their friendship was brief and consisted of Lin having some kind of contempt for Kya, not even knowing what it was, but deep down it was because she was jealous of Kya for being able to not only be herself but understand her feelings.

Anyways, the two would totally meet again years later when Lin is a cop working under her mother’s force in hopes to make her proud, and Kya is still a carefree rebel as she was years ago- but she probably has a chill job bc you gotta make bank somehow, like working at an alternative cat cafe or smth.

I kind of mentioned this in another post but I want to take a minute to consider how really good it could have been for LoK to not actually have anyone in it be the avatar. Imagine a version where Aang just died recently and the avatar’s just a baby/toddler/small child, so the Krew is just a rogue group of kids like the Scooby gang or some shit who keep running around dealing with all the shit that happens in the series. It would also make sense for all this shit to be happening as a direct social response to Aang’s death. For example, I think it would make a lot of sense for radical political movements like those that are run by Amon and Zaheer to be deliberately taking advantage of the absence of the avatar to get in their way. Also, Korra REALLY pisses me off as the avatar (mainly in the first two seasons) but I think I’d really like a character like her if she were some badass vigilante going around knocking heads, Rush Hour style. I’m just saying, I think it could’ve been really interesting and different.

Will Korra fall in love with Asami at first sight or will you continue with the original love triangle?

Aaaaa okay so in my AU, it will start out very similarly to canon in that Korra will have a crush on Mako, but he will act uninterested.

However, instead of Asami hitting Mako with her moped, she will hit Korra with it and become instantly smitten lol. So Korra will fill a lot of Mako’s role in Book 1 of this AU when it comes to interactions with Asami, except she’s oblivious to the fact that Asami likes her and will be jealous of her because Mako has a crush on her. Asami will be flattered by Mako’s crush bc she think’s he’s handsome, but won’t be able to stop feeling drawn to Korra.

Korra will also be pretty judgy of Asami just like in canon before she gets to know her. Once she does, by the end of Book 1, she’ll realize that she has a crush on Asami too. Meanwhile, Mako will switch his affections to Korra, who will no longer care bc she’s interested in Asami lol.

I just went through my brainstorming document to help me answer your question, and now that I’m going back and reading it, I’m really starting to get the itch to start writing for it lol.
