[Azula wakes up in the middle of the night soaked in sweat. Almost immediately, Lin barges in.]

Lin: Kid! You alright?!

Azula: I...I'm fine, Lin.

[Skeptical, Lin sits on the side of Azula's bed]

Lin: You woke up screaming. How's that alright?

Azula: I said I'm fine!

[The two glare at each other, before Azula sighs.]

Azula: I had a bad dream, alright? It's nothing to worry about. Everyone has them.

Lin: Not everyone wakes up screaming though.

Azula: ...I had a dream that I was in chains. Locked away in some dark corner of that asylum. Then Zuko yanks me out, reveals that he had me replaced with a better sister, then tossed me off a cliff after setting me on fire. Lin: Holy shit. Azula: Hey. I practically put myself in that asylum in the first place. [To her surprise, Lin draws her into a tight hug.] Lin: Look kid. I’ve…had a lot of nightmares too. I know, I know, seems crazy. But some of the stuff I’ve seen, some of the prisons I’ve been to…I can’t get them out of my head. So you’re not alone in this. Azula: But…but I- Lin: Trust me. Not everyone I saw in those hellholes deserve to be in there. [Both sit in silence.] Lin: (sighs) You…uh…want to sleep with me tonight? Azula: You’re serious. Lin: Hey, it’s the first and last chance you get. Besides, I need to get up early in the morning. I don’t exactly want you waking me up all night long. Azula: …I’d like that. [Azula sleeps with Lin that night, clutching the older woman. She slept a lot better the rest of the night, with Lin’s strong arms and steady heartbeat making her feel safe.]

Back to the Linvira vibes with a new soft headcanon, partially inspired by this piece by kilo-charlie7. I want to thank my partner in crime in everything Linvira-related @redcatmusingsmain for helping me develop this cute idea.

When she arrived from Zaofu to become part of the RCPD, Kuvira, like many of the other rookies of the force, was intrigued by her new boss and her larger-than-life reputation, and like them, she was curious to know if she was seeing a secret someone, because she wondered what kind of person would be worthy of capturing Lin Beifong's heart. Piqued by the rumors that Lin and Saikhan kept an illicit affair (oh the delicious irony for the future), Kuvira takes it upon herself to find out, mostly to prove her colleagues wrong because she didn't believe Lin would be interested in a married man and because she was sure Saikhan wasn't Lin's type (but perhaps she could be). After some sleuthing, Kuvira finds out one of Lin's best-kept secrets: when she needs space for herself to think and decompress, Lin takes care of a garden that only she and Saihkan know of. The garden is on the outskirts of the city and it's a secret to everyone else. Kuvira understands now where the rumors come from and is pleasantly surprised by the revelation because it unveils a side of Lin she didn't expect her to have.

Flash forward several months later, when Lin and Kuvira have admitted to their mutual feelings and Lin proposed Kuvira to move in together, Kuvira decides to mark this important milestone by surprising Lin with the gift of a plant she had selected from Suyin's greenhouse and was waiting for the right ocassion to give it to her. When Lin asks Kuvira why she decided to gift her a plant, Kuvira admits to having discovered her secret months ago and gathers the courage to request if she can join her tending the secret garden. Lin is surprised not only by the fact that Kuvira found out about the garden and hadn't divulged it to anyone not even her, but that she was willing to spend time gardening instead of doing the things Lin assumed young people liked to do. The assumption made Kuvira laugh, and she admitted she used to hang around Suyin's gardens and would hide inside the greenhouse when she needed to clear her mind, and with time, took interest in the plants themselves. Kuvira brings the suggestion that they should take advantage of the land surrounding Lin's property and turn it into a garden and Lin accepts with the condition that it would be her project once she's retired from the force, but for now, she'll keep the garden she has away from the city because just making the drive away from her responsibilities for a couple of hours is relaxing. Kuvira accepts, and they agree to find new routes to prevent another curious and enterprising whippersnapper like Kuvira from finding out about her secret. On their first visit together, they add Kuvira's plant to her garden. From that day on, the periodic visits to the garden become a sought-after highlight on their busy and hectic schedule, allowing them to relax away from curious eyes and to enjoy their mutual company. The plant, like their unexpected romance, thrives under their care despite not being native to the area, growing strong and beautiful.

Lin: No. It’s weird not to know your father, but after a few years you get over it and move on.

In the midst of a lively conversation, a moment of vacancy washes over the faces of both Lin and Kuvira, as all recognition of one another disappears.

Lin blinks her eyes a couple times before pulling away from the once familiar and loving grasp. An inwardly confused Kuvira apologizes to this beautiful stranger at her side while her mind tries to make sense of the situation.

Kuvira: "My sincerest apologies, I seem to have had a lapse in memory. Who did you say you were again?"

Lin:"Lin, Chief Lin Beifong of Republic City. By your clothes you must be an Earth Kingdom citizen yes?"

Kuvira:"Yes, Zaofu to be exact. I'm Kuvira and I was captain of the Zaofu Guard, though I recently relocated to Republic City myself to work for the RC Force.. Chief you say? How strange I cannot place your face. My deepest apologies."

Lin:"You're forgiven. What a strange occurrence, why are we here together? Something is afoot Kuvira."

*a gentle laughter rides along the breeze from something unseen but very much present.*

Thanks for your patience, Anon! Had to give this one some thought and also make sure I didn’t project too much.

Here’s the Chief and what it’s like to date her!

Dating Lin Beifong

-Lin took a little bit to convince that you two should date. It’s not that she didn’t want to, but she hasn’t been in a long term relationship for a while and has gotten used to living her life without someone for her own.

-She prioritizes your safety first and foremost. She was terrified of the thought that someone would use you to get to her. She didn’t want her position as Chief of Policeto put you in danger.

-She is extremely dedicated to her work. She can forget about dates if something pressing comes up at work, though she always does her best to apologise. Should she forget or have to put the City first, you’ll receive flowers to your work, small notes attached.

-You’ll need to be convincing. She is a terribly stubborn woman. If she’s sick, you will have to make sure she rests, because she won’t do it herself usually.

-When she does finally step away from work and doesn’t have to be Chief for a minute, she is ever dedicated to you. Lin is loyal, caring, and a bit of a romantic. She enjoys jazz music, dances in private with you, and cooks delicious food.

-Pottery. While she is an earthbender, she finds the skill of ceramicists to be intriguing. She took up the hobby and makes her own pottery by hand, no earthbending involved. It allows her to focus on the element and though she can feel the way it moves, she has taken a lot of time to be able to shape the clay traditionally.

-She has a two bedroom apartment near the precinct that she used as her primary residence. One of the first dates you had was in her home. Being the Chief, people tread lightly around her and she just wanted to relax after a long two weeks working on a case.

-Words are not her strong suit when showing affection. But look at the actions she takes. As stated earlier, she cooks and she loves doing that for you. Her pottery finds its way into your bag or on a shelf in your home and holds her apology flowers. She reads poetry to you during soft moments together in her home. She cares deeply for you, she just doesn’t always know how to say it.

-Another thing about Lin, she has a great sense of style. She doesn’t go overboard and overdress, but be prepared to match this elegant woman when you two go into the city for an evening together.

-You two stepped out of her satomobile and made your way to Narook’s Seawed Noodlery, Lin had picked for the evening. It wasn’t Kwong’s, which you supposed some would think that Lin only ate at the ‘finest’ restaurants, but the truth was, Line just preferred good food. Whether it cost a few yuans or more, she couldn’t care less. She had on olive slacks, a white sleeveless linen shirt, and a long caramel overcoat. Her hand wrapped around your waist as you walked together.

“Do you think Narook is doing that special he had for the five-flavor soup during last year’s Glacial Spirits Festival?”

“You’re only asking because I can’t get Aunt Katara’s recipe down yet. Though, he might have an idea of what I could be missing.” Lin mused as you entered the Noodlery.

“Chief! Will it be the usual for you two?”

“If you would, Narook.”

You two sat down and you couldn’t help but chuckle to yourself at which Lin raised a questioning eyebrow at you. “You do remember this is where we sat when you first asked me over for dinner at yours, right?”

Lin couldn’t help the small smile that made its way onto her lips as she leaned her head on her hand, “Oh? I remember it as the spot where you stumbled over another attempt to woo me.”

You huffed and shook your head, smile only growing. “Well, either way it seems to have worked out.”

A small hum comes from her as she holds your hand and she brings it to her lips for a soft kiss. “That it has.”

Republic City 21XX Hours

Old Dragon Docks

Weather: Light rain – Soon to be heavy

The Republic City police were raiding an old store house that the Triple Threat was using to store drugs that was starting to pollute the city streets and as one of many bases of operation. It is Officer Lin Beifong second year on the force and Chief Toph Beifong wanted all the heavy hitters she has to take this port down. Lin was busy fighting outside of the store house while her mother was inside clearing out anyone who was standing in her way. The Officers on the outside are managing to wrap up the criminals that have been fighting and arresting when Officer Lin sees her mother get thrown out of a top floor window into the water below.

------POV----

“Damn it” she says as she jumps to the edge of the dock near where she saw her mother sink. She sees her mother trying to swim up but getting disoriented by passing fish and sea creatures. Lin shed her armor and swam to her mother and helped her shed her armor. She grabs her mother and swims up realizing that the storm has gotten heavier pushing her and her mother farther from the docks and making it harder for them to be spotted.

“Fuck, I can’t see the docks Chief and the waves are getting rough” says Lin as she trying not to panic.

“Can you see any land that you can lead us to, I don’t care if it a small ass rock as long as we are out of this fucking water” said Toph trying not think of how she completely blind in the water or not panicking about the waves completely drowning them.

“I see some land north of us, it looks like an edge of a forest, but it going to be quite a swim on my part” said Lin as she starts swim to the land that is closer than anything else. Toph hangs on to Lin’s back as the cold and wet journey starts.

“Fucking rain, fucking ocean, fucking cold, fucking everything” Toph says as Lin swim towards hopefully drier lands.

“Can you stop cursing into my ear, I am trying to focus on getting us out of the fucking ocean” said Lin slightly annoyed since it in her ear and she already irritated because of the cold. At least Toph agreed to stay quiet since she did not want to have to find her way back to land on her own.

20 minutes later they are at the edge of the forest with one catching their breath and another using seismic sense to see where to go. Lin looks over to her mother who had lost her hair band in the fight or ocean and her hair was completely straight down from the weight of the water that is in her hair. Lin hair was also out of the usual style she completely down to the middle of her upper back.

“This way should lead us to the city and hopefully the docks we got thrown off of” said Toph as she starts walking in the direction she pointed at. “You're the one who got thrown off, I jump in” said Lin as she starts following. “You must have really pissed someone off because the water was at least 50 feet from the store house” Lin said again as she remembered how they got into predicament. “My job is pissed off most criminals Lin” reply Toph.

---- Random Group of Kids POV----

“What that walking in the forest Lang” said one fire nation kid to his little earth bending friend getting the attention of the whole mixed bender group. “I don’t know they look like ghosts” replied Ling to as the so called ‘ghosts’ got into a heated discussion about whatever or something (What I am lazy and got homework to get done, don’t judge me)

Then they heard screams from the shorter ghost screaming ‘I am going to steal your souls’ and instantly bolted to the closet child house to tell the adults what happened. They got in trouble for being outside late and the parents called everyone else parents and went to investigate the area the kids said the ghosts were at. All they found were foot prints leading no were and starting no were.

----Back to the Beifongs---

“Did you really need to scare those kids” asked Lin as the docks got into sight.

“What, they were staring at us. Plus, you got to admit it was funny” reply Toph as they continue walking. “But did you have to cover our tracks and leave footprints in the middle of the clearing” replied Lin sort of annoyed. “What, how else was I supposed to make sure they didn’t follow us. Now let's get back to the dock and get warm before we both get colds” said Toph as Lin shook her head in annoyance and continued walking back to the dock hoping to not get sick.

---30 years later---

Lin, Suyin and Toph in less conspicuous clothes going to a festival that was happening on the northern side of the old decommissioned Dragon Docks. Lin and Toph face goes blank when they hear a ghost story about what happened 30 year earlier. Suyin stops and wonders ‘what up with them?’ Lin started laughing when she hears how they described Toph as a short long hair angry goblin creature.

Hello!

Been awhile but here is a little sketch I did while being in an art block. It's of Lin and Korra! This definitely had to be one of my favorite scenes because it introduces us to Lin! Sjdksjdk :D

I don't think I have ever drawn Korra before so this was a fun first attempt!

It's not much but it was the best I could do, I've been extremely busy! I've been working on commissions, been busy with family life! I hope y'all don't mind it!
