I'm gonna be frank, Eddie just does not give me the impression that he was bullied all that much in high school to me. Especially as he got older, like he was the school drug dealer, he was not getting beat up by the same jocks who were going to be buying from him later that week. It just doesn't make sense to me!
I'm not saying he was never bullied at all (personally I think he was probably bullied by the people in his grade in like middle school, but leant more into the satanic image by the time he got to high school (which is when the satanic panic wouldve been starting) and people became more afraid to mess with him or it stopped when BS started dealing) or that people can't headcanon and project onto pm. It's fandom, do what you want lol. I've just gotten to the point where fics lose me whenever they claim Tommy/Steve/Jason was going around beating the shit out of him or shoving him in the halls every week or the like. Eddie just does not give the impression that he is scared of the jocks normally. He looks down on them and thinks he's better than them! He taunts them openly in front of everyone and pontificates on table tops.
I think if you take it in that context too, it makes the town turning on him more sinister? Like obviously, satanic panic was only growing at that point, and it was within the last year or two they started pointing at metal and D&D as recruiting centers for satanic cults. (Eddie also like an asshole is walking around with a satanic symbol on his jacket - peak edgy teen in the middle of a moral outcry.) But while people might've been afraid of him, and most definitely talked about him behind his back, that's worlds away from mob violence. The change was startling, even if Eddie might be able to see it on the horizon.
Idk to me that's more of what the hunt the freak line was about. The knowledge that they could turn on you and would if you gave them a reason (or if you want to go with the Eddie is closeted interpretation - if he got outed). I think he probably has been called the freak for a while but honestly I think he's proud of it at this point.
Obviously all of this is up to interpretation, I guess I've just gotten to the point where a lot of the popular fanon interpretation doesn't feel like Eddie to me anymore

the way people treat kon & clark's relationship in fanon vs how it is in [postcrisis] canon is honestly one of the most buckwild things. bc they always pull on "well yja clark was an asshole" or something and translate that to comics canon even when theres just NO basis for it.
canon postcrisis comics: kon brags about getting to work with clark. kon tells clark about his rogues gallery. kon cries from joy when clark says he's family to him. when kon worries clark doesn't trust him, clark tells him he trusts him with his life and that he feels closest to him of any of the superfam. via a time travel thing, young clark says he would want kon to be able to look up to him almost like a father figure. clark teaches kon how to milk a cow. when superman's been poisoned and is slowly dying, kon says he'll do anything to save him. he admires clark so much!!!! a direct kon quote: "every time i see the guy, it's like looking at everything i wanna be!"

i think the popularity of anime means that books could get so much weirder and do fine if publishers werent fucking cowards like. one of the most popular recent animes has a main character who fused with his demon dog and now his head and arms turn into fucking chainsaws. soul eater was fucking huge and just look it it. the grim reapers son has 2 guns that are a pair of shapeshifting sisters and thats only a tiny fraction of whats going on in that series. we need more of this energy in english-language sff books. im begging major publishing to Get Weirder

i have NEARLY finished the skirt for my ren faire fit i just gotta get a few finishing details added and also get the undershirt bleached (bc i got a bunch of makeup on it at last years fair and shit Stained) but THEN i can show yall the final fit!!
#day 99#year 5#aradia megido#homestuck#its gonna be cute#i was so fucking stressed abt this one because like.#i bought my fabric and i was like oh yeah dude this is toooootally more than enough for a circle skirt#went to finally cut things#realized i only had enough for a half-circle skirt and it would end up with a bunch of weirdly-shaped scrap at the end#(ie i would have to do a bunch of weird piecing to make the waistband and pockets and such)#and like honestly a half-circle skirt was NOT enough volume for me i need my skirts swooshy#so i was like well. okay. i think i can optimize my fabric usage more if i draft a paneled skirt#but this of course required..... Math.#and unfortunately. i was an art major. so. there was a lot of struggling#BUT I DID IT. THERE WAS STILL A LIIIIITTLE BIT OF PIECING THAT HAD TO BE DONE BUT IT IS MINIMAL AND CAMOUFLAGED PRETTY WELL#and also this is for a ren faire primarily bc i dont wear a lot of skirts in day-to-day#SO. economical fabric usage is absolutely period accurate. even though none of the rest of my outfit or techniques are.#basically all thats left for me to do is add pockets and the closure at the back#i meant to add the pockets as i was doing the main construction but i got too excited and forgor#so theres gonna be some seam ripping but nothing too bad
