day 99

i have NEARLY finished the skirt for my ren faire fit i just gotta get a few finishing details added and also get the undershirt bleached (bc i got a bunch of makeup on it at last years fair and shit Stained) but THEN i can show yall the final fit!!

#day 99 #year 5 #aradia megido #homestuck #its gonna be cute #i was so fucking stressed abt this one because like.#i bought my fabric and i was like oh yeah dude this is toooootally more than enough for a circle skirt #went to finally cut things #realized i only had enough for a half-circle skirt and it would end up with a bunch of weirdly-shaped scrap at the end #(ie i would have to do a bunch of weird piecing to make the waistband and pockets and such)#and like honestly a half-circle skirt was NOT enough volume for me i need my skirts swooshy #so i was like well. okay. i think i can optimize my fabric usage more if i draft a paneled skirt #but this of course required..... Math.#and unfortunately. i was an art major. so. there was a lot of struggling #BUT I DID IT. THERE WAS STILL A LIIIIITTLE BIT OF PIECING THAT HAD TO BE DONE BUT IT IS MINIMAL AND CAMOUFLAGED PRETTY WELL #and also this is for a ren faire primarily bc i dont wear a lot of skirts in day-to-day #SO. economical fabric usage is absolutely period accurate. even though none of the rest of my outfit or techniques are.#basically all thats left for me to do is add pockets and the closure at the back #i meant to add the pockets as i was doing the main construction but i got too excited and forgor #so theres gonna be some seam ripping but nothing too bad

sometimes im tempted to just open to action comics #1 and read through from the very beginning. i haven't done it yet but the temptation does exist

#i read all of robin 1993 in 4 days. which is 180 issues. so if i read at a rate of 45 issues a day...#... round that up to 50/day for ease of math and i could THEORETICALLY get thru ~1100 issues in 21 days.#of course that would require me to be an insane person who does nothing but read comics for 3 weeks straight #so realistically it would take longer than that #but the idea that i COULD do this. it's rattling around in my head #rimi talks

ive been saying the 'im a humanities major i cant do math' joke for a long time but i was just reminded today of how much i liked math when i was in high school. math was a bunch of fun puzzles that you got to solve and as long as you understood the process it was so satisfying and rewarding to complete

#ignore me #when i was visiting colleges i sat in on a calculus class bc i was taking high school calc #and the profesdor put a problem from the homework on the board and asked someone to solve it and nobody answered #so i put my hand up. and he was like OH LOOK THE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT CAN DO IT and i think everyone wanted me dead #i solved the problem correctly too. even tho i said x for the variable instead of t. idk why variables are always x in my head #i have since forgotten how to do that kind of math but i liked it a LOT when i was younger... i should take math classes again #i really really want to go back to school and just take some classes for fun. math and art history in particular i liked those when i was #getting my undergrad degree but i just took intro courses to get grad requirements out of the way. wish i'd done more #math art history AND philosophy. i wanna take more philosophy classes

every time i edit lecture videos i’m like. none of these students will ever know what i’m saving them from. they’ll never know how much the professor stumbled over their words or how slow the pacing was before i chopped it up. they’ll never know how bad it could have been if the professor just recorded themself on a webcam

woooo ok well time to stop looking at furthering education options for right now. It's just overwhelming. I have genuinely zero direction right now so I can't narrow down the most useful degree when I don't even know what I'd be putting it towards. 4-year is very much expected of me, so I need to find SOMETHING, but I'm really coming up empty right now. Sigh. Just kind of complaining. I know this is THE MOST NORMAL FEELING EVER for being my age, but that doesn't make it any easier.

#long tags. i'm just talkin' and spiralin'. as you do over these things.#like. ok I took cultural geography and ADORED it #I love the sociology aspect of it #but a sociology degree wouldn't be good for me because I couldn't work in that field #I love the demographic/statistical/methodological aspect of it #but that requires math which is the number one thing I CAN'T do #the other side is the more social work based things that are like. ok how and why does xyz problem form in xyz communities or locations #and how can we fix it #everything gets to me and i'd get REALLY fucking sad really quickly in a social work sort of setting #and like i've BEEN the kid with 5 social workers and it's not an environment I would ever go back into. even on the other side of it #so i can't do the logical aspect of it and i can't do the more human based aspect of it #I know an english degree would be something I could do. my aunt and grandmother have one #and it's a wide enough net that I can use it for a lot of career paths. it leaves options wide open #and there's cultural studies within that that would connect to the sociological things I like studying #minus the more math prominent aspects of it #and once I DO find a job i need to make sure it's one i can physically do with my EDS POTS MCAS bullshittery #which is a WHOLE ASS OTHER THING #but i don't need this all figured out on a random monday evening #this is without me worrying about housing and employment during school and being able to handle it all with the adhd demons #bc sometimes two courses online is too much for me bc ADHD and pots brain fog. bc tldr i never have enough oxygeon or blood in my brain #which makes thinking difficult #and just. AUGH i do not need to figure it out right now!!!!!!!!!!!!1 #this has STOPPED BEING USEFUL #only posting this bc i know other people feel the same sort of 'lost' otherwise i'd save it for my therapist #but this is tumblr so like i can just say shit here. if you think it's annoying you can leave ily but this is my house

Just saw a lady on my fyp talking about “red flags she saw at a daycare center” and all of the comments are early education teachers roasting her 💀

#‘I want the daycare I go to have a requirement of taking the kids to the park’ k ma’am majority of these daycares are in cities-#like we have fenced in playgrounds/outdoor spaces for a reason #even one comment was like ‘I would not want my daycare bringing kids to a park’#and then she got upset that they didn’t like encourage math or learning to read #and like while we do let the kiddos look at books and of course they ask questions about words or what’s going on in the book #and we always read to them. it’s not developmentally appropriate for us to teach them to read. like even our preK teachers do SOME but-#nothing like the school system because it’s not appropriate #like her BABY isn’t even a toddler wtf are you on about #and I actually do math with my students (who are toddlers/early preschoolers)#no were not doing equations or learning how to add numbers together #however we are constantly counting. we are constantly sorting. we are constantly making patterns.#like I’m sorry you want your infant to do equations that’s not what we do in a daycare #find a nanny

i JUST realised that the reason i’m enjoying my online Astrophysics course so much is because the lecturer reminds me so much of Bob Hale from HH

you know what feels a little silly but works? you can make yourself enjoy math by telling yourself that it's Wizard Stuff and therefore very cool and mysterious. you're not "being forced to study math," you're Learning The Secret Language Of The Universe That You Might Bend It To Your Will. so if it's difficult and frustrating and takes a really long time, don't worry! it's wizard stuff! wizard stuff isn't supposed to be easy!

It’s finally the start of Easter break and the end of coursework week.

#so I don’t do a subject that requires coursework #but every time I’ve been to the printer #everyone’s printing off course work #and I think the deadline for some #from what I’ve heard from the people I sit next to in maths #is today #so I guess that’s a relief #I was almost late to my period 3 lesson #since in my p2 free I was waiting to use the printer #and i was waiting for a while #but was able to print of the past papers and arrive on time #or at least before him as he was late #forgot to mention this but #I got a bronze in chemistry Olympiad #which is actually kind of good like it’s not terrible #my chemistry teacher said he was very proud of everyone which is nice #I think only one person got a silver or close to a silver #I also just started my period today #and I had no signs before today to indicate it was gonna happen today rip #but it’s the holidays so all is well!!!! :)#gatherrambles

I hate when people think of art as this easy childish thing but especially so regarding digital art?? like are you aware of how complex the programs can be. even when doing just normal illustrations like people don't have 20 hour courses on digital art programs for nothing... it's something that does take technical skill.

especially if you're drawing for a game's textures or drawing comics/manga and animation is an entire can of worms.

especially when, yknow, English is your second language so not only do the programs need a bit to get familiar with but you basically need to learn a new language. no one of the terms used in digital art programs are taught in any English lesson ever and are literally learnt just from the programs and art YouTube videos

#can you tell that my mom insulted my art 💀💀 she was like 'well its not like youre doing something as complex as math or science or #engineering...' like first of all i get 100/100 or 95/100 grades in both maths and sciences so fuck off #second of all art is hard and requires creativity and alot of aspects you just Gotta do yourself. like theres not a solution #like you have to Create and see everything thats possible to do art wise and try to pick whats most appealing all based on next to nothing #of rules #im not insulting any field here !!!! of course STEM is hard but its not like art is useless or bad like kys

I’m glad y’all like Lady Petunia so much! I need to make a prototype plushie to try to fit the dress (and other future clothes) better, but I’m fairly confident the prototype is not going to be...good? Like. Pretty sure I messed up some proportions, but there’s really no way for me to tell without making it and seeing what I need to adjust. So, what animal should I make the first (probably kinda weird looking) prototype plushie? Options I am considering: - cow - tiger - bear (basically, very fluffy brown fabric) - bunny (lighter shade of very fluffy brown fabric) - generic monster (some bright colored fluffy fabric) - some other option I haven’t considered yet

#please weigh in I can't decide #leaning towards either monster or bear #because if I mess up the bear then I can pretend I was making a bigfoot all along #and that's just what they look like of course it was intentional lol #and monsters can be whatever I make them #but I do have cow and tiger print fabrics #I did a whole bunch of math and then just traced the doll #and then looked at the traced outline and went 'no that's not right'#and made some modifcations #so I have no idea how this is going to go. it'll be fun though!#eventually I really want to make a skunk and a raccoon #Lady Petunia's friend group shall be epic #but that's a ways off (I don't want to make something requiring different fabrics for the prototype)#(those modifications aren't that hard but still. one variable at a time)

Sakusa and Bokuto being college roommates who both can’t do math bc Sakusa was a muscal theater major and Bokuto was a communications major
