Ghostly Encounters of the babysitting kind.
Various Casper characters x reader
(I'll probably do a part two to this, but I thought this made a good prologue!)

👻🕷👻🕷👻🕷👻🕷👻🕷👻🕷👻🕷👻🕷
Dr. James Harvey frantically sorts papers, a few slipping out from the bottom of the pile in his hands. "Ugh, seriously-." He groans, crouching to pick up the fallen documents. As the Dr. experiences a manic episode, his daughter sits on the Bannister of the library stairs, a brow raised. She looks at her father with a mix of concern and bemusement as she crunches on some salty potato chips. Her eyes dart back and forth, following her dad as he darts back and forth across the library, mumbling about something.
"Hey... Dad?" Kat asks cautiously, and her father jumps in shock at her sudden voice. Placing a hand to his chest and taking a deep breath, he shakes off this fear. "Kathleen, well, you're certainly getting sneakier. When you were a toddler, I couldn't NOT hear you-" He rambles on, as Kat shakes her head. "Dad, you're rambling. What are you so freaked about?" She asks. He looks up at her. "Freaked?" He repeats. She rolls her eyes. "It's slang, you know? For freaked out?" He nods and reaches up to adjust his glasses, then sets his paper pile on the desk. "Well, to answer your question, I'm going to a college campus soon." He explains. She tilts her head in confusion, and he goes on. "Well, the Bowdoin College is interested in my work. They've agreed to give me a seminar to the head psychology students." He smiles, and motions to the papers beside him. "Just, uh, organizing my papers," He suddenly looks confused. "Wait, no, that's not paper one, where is paper one?" He mumbles, turning his back to his daughter. She hops up from her spot and heads down the spiral stairs. "So, they're open to you talking about ghost psychology..." She says, the phrase heavy with skepticism. She watches her father's shoulder slump noticeably, and he turns back around with a sigh. "Well, I may have, fudged my resume a bit, they think I'm going to present on psychology for humans, the elderly, specifically." Kat folds her arms and lowers her brows. "And you're going to present on that, right?" She asks. Dr. Harvey remains silent. "Right?" She repeats. "Well..." He starts, prompting Kat to groan. "Dad! Just cause' we know there're ghosts doesn't mean everyone believes it! These are fancy college people, they're gonna laugh you out of Bowdoin." She says. Dr. James Harvey claps, and points at his upset daughter. "But, maybe, they won't! This could be a break for me, Kathleen!" He insists. "Whatever, at least Bowdoin is far away, I don't wanna skip town again." She jokes.
"How long are you gonna be gone?" She asks, moving to lean against the poles holding up the library balcony. She had always wondered why they had a two-story library. "Uh, well, about 4 days actually." He says. "Cool, how many frozen pizzas did you buy for me?" She asks with a smile. He laughs, and nods a little. "That's the thing, I felt bad leaving you alone for several days, and I frankly..." He looks around, before whispering. "Frankly, I don't feel safe leaving you with you-know-who." Kat nods, shivering as she remembers the time her dad left to grab groceries, only to return to three ghosts dangling his daughter off the roof. He seems to sense what she's remembering. "I don't think they were really gonna drop me, probably..." She tries to give the three ghosts the benefit of the doubt. "Where am I going then?" Dr. Harvey pulls out a flyer. "I talked to some of the moms in town at the PTA meeting last week, there's a babysitter in town. They come highly recommended." He says, handing her the flyer. "I thought all the moms in the PTA bullied you..." She says as she examines the pamphlet. "Y/N L/N. So, there like, a nanny?" Dr. Harvey nods. "I'm leaving tonight, in-" He looks over at the large grandfather clock on the wall. "Oh, no, I'm already running behind, could you grab my suitcase? It's in my room by the wardrobe." Kat nods and heads out of the library. "Throw away your chip bag!" Dr. Harvey yells after her.
Upstairs, Kat Harvey grabs the rather heavy suitcase from her dad's bedside. "Ugh." She grunts, crouching as she tries to drag the suitcase. She feels a cold chill suddenly enter the room, and she smiles. "Hey, Casper." She says nonchalantly. A white apparition appears with a sheepish smile. "Aw, how'd you know it was me." He complains. She shrugs, and drops the suitcase with a heavy sigh. "Could you do me a favor, this suitcase weighs like one hundred pounds." She exaggerates. Casper nods, stretching his pale ghostly body in a superhero pose. He lifts up Dr. Harvey's suitcase and follows Kat's journey downstairs.
As Dr. Harvey loads his luggage into the beat up old Cadillac, he wipes some sweat from his brow and sighs. He claps his hands together when he turns back to face his Daughter, then lets out a shriek when a loud bang on the hood of a car rings out. He whips around to see three ghostly figures by the car with the hood open. "I don't know doc' I'm not sure this car is ready for travel." Stretch says, prompting Dr. Harvey to groan in concern. "I'm gonna regret this, but care to elaborate?" Dr. Harvey asks. "Well, from the looks of it, ya' don't even have an engine." Dr Harvey rushes forward to see that his Cadillac is indeed missing an engine. An engine, which he smacks his head on as he leans back up. The three ghosts howl in amusement as the Doctor tries to wrestle the possessed floating engine back into the hood of the car. "Come on, just knock it off, please!" He grunts, and suddenly the engine drops back into the car. He sighs and stands back up, his tweed jacket now coated in oil. Casper makes a gagging motion at the sight of it, causing Kat to giggle. "Huh, seems the car trouble has resolved itself." Fatso says, wiping the some of the engine oil onto the windshield of the car. "Your welcome for that." Dr. Harvey shakes his head, and opens the driver's side door.
"Kat, honey, I'm running behind, but I promise I'll bring you something back from Bowdoin. Casper," Casper's head perks up at the mention of his name. "Do what you can to keep them under control." He mumbles, eyes motioning to the ghostly trio. Stretch gasps, mocking hurt. "Doc' your words wound us!" Stinkie falls over dramatically into the arms of Fatso, clutching at his non-existent heart. "Yeah, you can trust us, we'll make sure your little fleshie stays alive," Stretch thinks for a moment "We'll try, at least." The ghosts burst into laughter again. "Well, that's not a risk I'm taking." The three ghosts look up. Dr. Harvey yelps as he feels a ghostly arm stick through the roof of his car and grab his collar, yanking him out of the door. "Whatta' ya' mean by that?" Stretch prods accusingly. Dr. Harvey gulps, trying to figure out how to explain his plan in a way that won't doom Casper and Kat to the rage of the three ghosts. "I've hired a babysitter-" "A BABYSITTER!" The three ghosts wail, and Casper only looks away. Stretch bares a set of ghostly fangs as his eyes bulge, something he usually does only when provoked. "We already were gracious enough to not chase ya' out of here, and you're lettin' in some other random fleshie?!" He yells, ectoplasmic ghost spit flying onto the face of the dear doctor with each word spoken. The trio glares at Dr. Harvey, and he waits a few moments before speaking. "I'm not going to leave Kat alone, she needs another living-" He's cut off again. "So that's the issue, huh? We aren't good enough because we're ghosts?" Stretch asks. "No, that's not what I-" "Can you believe this guy?" Stretch asks, and the other two shake their heads solemnly. "After all we did for you, you don't trust us..." Stinkie pouts, his eyes morphed into mocking puppy-dog eyes. "Look, I'm sorry that I need someone else in the house, but I just do. So, please, please try not to do anything crazy?" Dr. Harvey begs. The three of them instantly stop there fake sulking, and look at the doctor. "Alright doc', we'll bite. But what's in it for us?" Stretch asks, folding his arms. Dr Harvey sighs and flails his arm out. "I, look I'm really running late, we'll come up with the terms when I get back." Casper's eyes widen. "Uh, Dr Harvey? That doesn't seem like a good-" Dr. Harvey waves him off. "I know, I know, but I've got to get going, I'm sorry." Dr. Harvey waves out the window as he backs the car out of the driveway, narrowly making it through the Whipstaff manor gates. Kat waves back un-enthusiastically, and groans when she feels three pairs of eyes on the back of her head. "What?" She spits, crossing her arms.
"While we wait for this babysitter to arrive, why don't you explain how you're going to keep this fleshie babysitting rando out of our way." Stretch sneers. "Maybe you should just stay out of our way instead." Kat challenges, stepping forward. Stretch pauses, the grins and backs off, putting his arms up in surrender.
"Fine, but don't blame us if this sitter should happen to get into a... tragic workplace accident."

Here's how atheist candidates fared in the 2022 elections
There are at least 15 nonreligious state senators.
This is a jump from 10 just two years ago. While they use different labels to describe themselves, these legislators show that you can represent people of faith even when you don’t believe in a Higher Power yourself.
Sen. Stanley Chang (HI)
Geoff Schroeder (ID)
Pinny Beebe-Center (NH)
Sen. William Brownsberger (MA)
Sen. Jeff Irwin (MI)

You can see from the list that the senators include challengers, former state representatives, and incumbents whose open nonreligiosity wasn’t a dealbreaker for voters.
There are at least 44 nonreligious state representatives
With several races yet to be called, this is heading toward a record number of nonreligious State House members.

Stephanie Vigil (CO)
Jennifer Parenti (CO)
Brooke Grossman (MD)
Joey Andrews (MI)
Carolyn Fluehr-Lobban (NH)

Melanie Renfrew-Hebert (NH)
Courtney Neron (OR)
Zach Hudson (OR)
Rep. Ashlee Matthews (UT)

As you can see, there’s a mix of incumbents and challengers, including in several red states.

Welcome to 1926 – Kathleen Harvey !! I  hope you feel right at home here in Sydney. Before you get too   comfortable and see what all our city has to offer, be sure to review   our CHECKLIST. We’re so glad to have you with us, Amber !!
Tumblr media
Look who just woke up- is that KAYLEE BRYANT? No, I must have been mistaken, that’s KATHLEEN “KAT” HARVEY from CASPER. I heard they are 18 and stuck here just like everyone else. Even in the 20’s, she still gives off a DROWNING IN OVERSIZED CLOTHES, UNABLE TO OPERATE HER EASY BAKE OVEN, NOT GETTING TO SAY GOODBYE TO HER MOTHER, BEING AN INTEGRAL MEMBER OF HER SOFTBALL TEAM & TAKING ON THE CARETAKER ROLL AT A YOUNG AGE impression. In Sydney, they work as a STUDENT. They’re known to be quite COURGEOUS & DETERMINED, but have a tendency to be STUBBORN & SHORT TEMPERED on their bad days. (Amber)

Hear me out
Casper the Friendly Ghost 1995 counts as Gothic Fiction
The villain Carrigan is a power hungry tyrant who only wants money
Kat faints at least once
It’s set in a dusty mansion that typically looks like a haunted house
There are ghosts
It isn’t set too far in the past, but long enough
The majority of the film is at night

Casper as a dark mystery TV show.
After her mother's passing, Kat Harvey (Rachel Hilson) moves with her father, parapsychologist Dr. James Harvey (Idris Elba), to a quiet town in southern Maine. James' fascination with the supernatural - and the frustrated and desperate attempt to contact with his late wife, Amelia (Kerry Washington) - takes father and daughter to their new home: the Whipstaff Manor. The site was built nearly two centuries ago by the Whipstaff family and passed from generation to generation until it reached scientist Dr. John Thomas McFadden (Jude Law). For many years, the McFadden family found a home in that huge mansion, but after a terrible snowstorm, the scientist's son, the young prodigy Casper (Thimothée Chalamet), disappeared never to be found again. The boy was presumed dead. Citizens are surprised and furious when Dr. McFadden is accused of killing his own son. Although there was no evidence of the crime, the city never believed in John Thomas McFadden's innocence.
In the present day, Kat is impressed by the richness of her home: the very old and dusty furniture of gold-plated wood, crystal chandeliers and oil paintings that must be worth a fortune. One of the paintings shows a handsome young man who, at the time he was portrayed, must have been about the same age as Kat. The real estate agent then tells them the sad story of the McFadden family and shows Kat and her father where the young Casper would be buried at the Whipstaff Graveyard.
Life in the mansion becomes hell when doors start to lock themselves, objects change places, lights start to flash and a chilling laughter echoes through the long corridors.
Murder, magic, curses, love, revange and friendship come together in this electrifying retelling of classic Harvey Comics story.
Starring:
Thimothée Chalamet as Casper McFadden, son of scientist Dr. J. T. McFadden who died mysteriously after a snowstorm. One hundred years after the event, his tormented soul still inhabits his old home. Seeking information about what would have happened to him, Casper joins Kat to finally discover the truth: who killed Casper McFadden?
Rachel Hilson as Kathleen “Kat” Harvey, a young woman who has just lost her mother and moves to the Whipstaff Manor with her father. Her skepticism about the supernatural disappears when she finds out that her new home is haunted. Seeking justice for her new friend, Casper, and trying not to be plagued by vengeful spirits, Kat will do anything to help those she loves.
Steve Carell as Shepherd “Stretch” McFadden, John Thomas McFadden's older brother and Casper's uncle. In life, Shepherd was obsessed with the family's power and fortune. After his violent death, little has changed.
Jack Black as Forsythe “Fatso” McFadden, the second brother, Forsythe was a prominent businessman who was engaged. On his wedding night, in one of the rooms at Whipstaff Manor, Forsythe wakes up to find that he is dead and his wife ran away with a large amount of gold coins that he kept under his mattress.
Sacha Baron Cohen as Sergei “Stinky” McFadden, the third brother, Sergei only loved two things: playing tricks and his younger brother, John Thomas. After an argument between John and Sergei over a practical joke that went wrong, John leaves home to meet with his fiancé. Claiming that John forgot about his family because of a woman, Sergei turns his beloved brother into his main enemy.
Idris Elba as James Harvey, a scholar of the supernatural, James found several signs that he should move to Whipstaff Manor after his wife's death. Years of study came in handy when he found out that his new home was indeed haunted. Hopeful, James tries everything to communicate with his love and wonders why Amelia has not returned as a ghost yet.
Elle Fanning as Wendelyn “Wendy” Bradshaw, the young witch moved in with her aunts when her parents were killed. During her studies, she receives a magical call, almost like a beacon, emanating from a mansion in Maine. Sensing that someone needs help, Wendy sets out to find out what kind of curse engulfs Whipstaff Manor and how to break it.
Cate Blanchett as Gertrude “Gert” Bradshaw, Wendy's older aunt, Gert is the leader of her coven. Extremely smart and demanding, Gert begins to worry when her magic begins to falter. When she finds out that her niece has fled to visit the Whipstaff Manor, Gert worries that an old secret surrounding the mansion's curse will surface.
Angela Bassett as Gabrielle “Gabby” Bradshaw, Gert’s middle sister and Wendy’s aunt, Gabby knows the history of the Whipstaff Manor and how dangerous the place is, after all, she was there when the curse was casted.
Sandra Oh as Fenicia “Fanny” Bradshaw, Gert's younger sister and Wendy’s aunt, Fanny keeps a big secret: a purse of gold coins that she stole from her former husband almost a hundred years ago. She remembers that night very well. While her husband slept, she felt something moving under the mattress. Crouching down to see what it was, she found something much more disturbing than gold coins.
Jimmy Smits as Desmond Spellman, the most powerful wizard in the world knows an age-old prophecy: when a human, a ghost and a witch come together, they’ll cause the end of the world.
Eva Green as Carrigan Crittenden, a greedy businesswoman is willing to die to get her hands on the McFadden family's long-lost fortune. When a widowed man is the new owner of the infamous Whipstaff Manor, Carrigan uses her charm to get closer to that place and be able to discover secrets from it.
Cameron Monaghan as Nathan “Hot Stuff” Apollyon, a charming newcomer approaches Kat Harvey with his devilish good-looks and quick-witted humor. Kat knows that Nathan keeps some secret that he doesn't want to reveal and Casper doesn't like it at all when that acquaintance returns to the city after a hundred years. Someone sold their soul to the devil and he came to collect it.
Kerry Washington as Amelia Harvey, Dr. James Harvey's late wife and Kat's mother can still be of great help to her daughter and her friends, almost like a guardian angel.
Jude Law as John Thomas McFadden, scientist and father of Casper McFadden. The youngest son of renowned tycoon Isiah McFadden is in for a big surprise when his father dies and leaves the entire family fortune - including Whipstaff Manor - only for him and his son, Casper. His older brothers Shepherd, Forsythe and Sergei would like to understand why.
Joaquin Phoenix as Kibosh, the evil spirit, an ancient entity as old as the universe, that feeds on violence and gains strength from death. The mighty Kibosh will be released when an ancient prophecy is fulfilled and it will bring the end of all things.

Heya, Tumblr! It’s been a while. XD
I do think Casper ‘95 is the best film based on the Harvey characters. Sure, the screenplay has some flaws and the jokes don't always work, but it does have an engaging overall story, top-notch voice acting, excellent production design, and a great score to boot. Plus, I think this was J.J. Abrams' first big success given that Spielberg brought him onboard to rewrite it. True, he was uncredited, but given the screenplay he was handed, he gave the film the dramatic boost it needed.
Figures that I think it deserves a continuation. I've had this in the back of my head for a while (As is the case a lot. XD), but I really wanted to get all of these out.
The basic story I have in mind is that Whipstaff has been abandoned again for some 50 years since the Harveys left and Kat pursued a career to take up her dad's mantle. 50 years after the 1995 film, Little Dot, Little Audrey and Little Lotta stumble across Casper and his uncles Stretch, Stinkie and Fatso around Christmastime, and they befriend them. Dr. Kathleen Harvey also returns to Friendship as one of Dot's dads has called her over to investigate. Casper and his uncles have a small grudge over Kat for leaving Whipstaff, but overtime, Kat regains Casper's trust and he eventually gets his uncles to do the same. Obviously, they don't love each other anymore because... well, that's just ewwy. No. Just no.
During a Fair scene, Casper stumbles across another ghost on a Fairground built where the local insane asylum used to be - the ghost of his father J.T. McFadden. Overtime, Casper tries to get his dad to remember who he was, with some help from Kat.
But there's another reason why Dot, Audrey and Lotta are drawn to Whipstaff. In this universe, Audrey and her sister Zoe have a familial connection to Carrigan Crittenden (Great-nieces.), and thusly are entitled to Whipstaff. What's more is that the Crittenden lines has ties to the McFadden line, and Audrey, Zoe and their mother are some of the last surviving people related in some sense to Casper as a result. What I think will happen is that a direct relative (A grandfather?) will want Whipstaff and the Lazarus for themselves and will try to kill Audrey and Zoe to get it, so they kidnap Zoe to get her to reveal where the Lazarus is and what it does. This will result in Casper, Kat and the 3 gals going to save Zoe and her and Audrey confronting their relative. He dies and becomes a ghost, but instead of having him cross over to the Afterworlds, he is exorcised there.
In the end, Audrey, Zoe and their mom move in to Whipstaff to live with Casper and his uncles, his dad regains his memory, he and Kat rekindle their friendship, and all of them, including Dot and Lotta, become a sort of group of friends. On Christmas Eve, Casper says it'll be fun while it lasts, and even when the next family comes around, he'll still have his own to keep him company. Just then, Casper's dad finds the Primordial soup formula for the Lazarus and gives it to him. He gets excited and goes to tell everyone about it, ending the film.
The idea for the Harvey Girls for Casper Returns is that they will be based upon their Harvey Girls Forever counterparts, henceforth why I drew them here. I know Harvey Girls Forever already has their own Casper, and I do think they did a great job with that version! This one here will exist as an separate world, so you won't see any statue of Harvey E. Harveson since he won't exist in this world.
I think Audrey and Lotta will act as sort of big-sister figures to Casper, Audrey especially since she'll discover her relations to the McFadden line. Dot and Casper might have some affection for each other and date for a small while. Yeah, screw it. I like it, it's a fun crack ship and it'll still be a little bit before Wendy comes into play, though not too long.
For this drawing, I wanted to visualize how Kat and Casper's uncles would look with him and the 3 gals. I drew Stretch too small, so I had to resize him. XD Still, I think I did a'ight. I think adult Kat looks cool in Katie Rice's style too.
As far as writing goes, I want J.J. to come back to produce and help with the main story, but I want Phillip LaZebnik to do the actual screenplay. The Prince of Egypt was really good, and I want to see more stuff from him. I could probably bring in Guillermo del Toro in to co-write/produce too since he did Trollhunters and is doing a film of it soon. I'd also bring in the Brendan Hay to co-write since he helped develop the versions of Dot, Audrey and Lotta I want to integrate.
As you expected, I want Burton to produce as will everything I want to make, but I especially want the Spielberg family on board. Steven will probably have a good excuse not to, because he'll be dead by the time I get to produce this, in which case may he rest well.
As far as directing goes, I think Peter Ramsey. He directed Rise of the Guardians, but he also has some experience in live-action doing some second-unit work for John Singleton. Plus, he was an artist on Casper '95.
That's pretty much all I've got for now. I'll try to add more as time goes onward, but if you like what I've got so far, feel free to give some feedback if you want.
