The Loss of a Teardrop Diamond: pick me up and sling me over your shoulder like those bags of grain pls (edit to title after watching through: Men are stupid)

I’ve never done a complete 180° flip on characters like this in a movie before. Let’s go through it, shall we?

This movie did NOT offer subtitles, and I’d be lying if I said it was easy to understand the southern accents without them. And that’s with my keen ability to understand a Pittsburgh accent, which is arguably worse at times.

Absolutely wild, but when do I not exaggerate and say that? This is somewhat of a play-by-play of what was going through my mind as I watched.

First off, CE was to die for in the movie. I don’t know exactly what it was about it (I know exactly what it was) but I fell in love. Country accent Chris Evans is something else, but Boston accent is much better. But this is a good look, I like it.

Such a simple man with a good heart, and smart enough to get a scholarship to ole miss!? He seemed decent, and the acting was actually pretty good.

The little clueless look of mild discomfort on his face the whole time was so adorable. Any time he was at a party or visiting his mother. I also took note of the way this disappeared as soon as he was home with his dad. As soon as he was in his domain and in control. This is me commending his ability to portray that dichotomy of environments.

But fr, like, how does everyone know who he is and not say anything about him being poor?

I love the way he turned down Caroline at the dance tho. He very obviously does not want to be there, but isn’t that the point? But that statement about him being hired by Fisher struck an alarm for me. Is she almost fetishizing the poor boy?

Fishy is outta left field. It’s unfortunate she’s been forced into this kind of a life, but she’s… a lot.

Also, it’s movies like this that remind me how much the south lags in terms of modernity and stays rooted in tradition sometimes. Like, if you think about it, this takes place at a very similar time as to when Steeb was growing up in Brooklyn in cap, but like, it’s totally worlds away.

Omg, not him hinting at being an escort to make ends meet and get his mom better. He’s ready to sell his soul and body to this girl for his ma and a condition that can’t really heal.

Vinnie definitely saw the diamond in the driveway. I saw her look down when she first saw Jimmy.

Omg not Jimmy having a condom on him during that strip search. Iolllllll

Also also, not the assisted suicide. This lady on her death bed is really spitting facts. It’s a rude awakening for dear Fishy. She knows how much she loves Jimmy and knows that really should be her number one concern.

Poor thing is just peculiar and no one gets her. But to be fair, she does not make it easy.

Fishy, have fun in Europe. You deserve it. You need to get outta this town. It’s not for you. Rip. She doesn’t leave.

I JUST SQUEALED. The way he backed her up against that wall when she’s talking about the way he dresses. I’m gonna throw up. Do that to me. Please. Oop. She struck a nerve talking about his father.

The boys in the yard absolutely suck. All boys in this movie suck.

Why does Jimmy like Vinnie so much? Everyone else very evidently does not.

Dude, tbh the postman game makes me uncomfortable. No need for all this young adult fornication is too much.

I get it’s Halloween, but these costumes and masks are fucking creepy as hell. I didn’t sign up for Fishy’s opium fever dream. She is good at playing the piano tho. Poor thing is in pain.

I FUCKING KNEW IT. Vinnie sucks. And Jimmy just slept with her!!! I’m CRYING. THIS IS SO FUCKED UP. I CANT BELIEVE YOU JUST DID THAT, JIMMY. I BLAME BOTH OF YOU, LITTLE BITCHES. (This was very evidently the moment of the switch-up. Little horny bastardized ruining everything. Keep it in your pants until you have the full story.) (I’m not hating on him for sleeping with Vinnie, I’m hating on him for not seeing Vinnie’s poor character sooner.)

Fisher, you’re a queen, calling Jimmy a scared little boy in the dark. Jimmy, you ARE such a stupid little boy. No way you like these people even though you say you do. Everyone here sucks. This all is making me soupy saddy in the bad way.

Not her saying Jimmy is like god to her. Fishy!!!! You know nothing of what he’s done.

He convinced Vinnie to give back the Diamond. I TOLD YOU knew that she stole it. I really don’t know what he saw in her. Sure, no shame in being poor, but she still kinda sucks

Now that Jimmy is driving Fishy home, he’s still being a little bitch. Check yourself, boy, I swear.

Ohhhhhh. He didn’t want to be with Fisher bc he thinks she can do better than him? I mean, agreed, but that’s still no excuse for your immorality.

They both know she doesn’t belong, but she’s got a lot to stay for. Use your Paris education to fix the world, girl!!!

Despite Jimmy’s amusement of Fisher at the first party and his confession at the end, she still does not get enough credit besides the one lady on her deathbed

Poor Fisher knows no one will ever love her or see her for who she truly is. This is so sad. So I guess he finally kissed her at the levee? What an unsatisfying ending. Fishy deserves the world and Jimmy is such a BOY😭🙄.

one theory i have for the canary curse breaking, that i havent really seen from anyone else, is that it's because of joel.

back in limited life, joel wanted to break the curse so badly. after jimmy fell, joel said he would have sacrificed himself just so jim wouldn't be first out again.

i think the watchers heard that. i think they noticed.

now we see secret life. we see joel being the one to pull jimmy out of his grave, at the early funeral.

we see joel sending lizzie after scott, only for her to fall in the void, and die first.

we see jimmy being the very next one out.

now, that looks to me like a wish gone wrong. the watchers saw joel wanted the curse broken. they saw he wanted a sacrifice. so they took everything from him except for his life.

he got what he wanted. jimmy wasn't first out. was losing his wife, his best friend, and his ally all in one episode not worth it?

the watchers feed on negative emotions. a joel who had lost everything, sent his own wife to her death, yet still technically got what he wanted in the most horrible way.... that's a feast.

having a normal one watching Bdubs lim life tonight and thinking about how when Bdubs betrayed Tango in last life, Skizz told Tango that for the sake of team best he had to go and forgive him.

But when Bdubs boogey kills Skizz in lim life before team ties is even really formed, Skizz is allowed to have it out for Bdubs for almost the entire first half of the season, even when the clockers ally with them and it would've been easier to let sleeping dogs lie.

Tango, the perpetually extraneous and undervalued member of his alliances...the too often shoved aside and betrayed...being told it was his duty to the team to forgive bdubs and move on....

But no one—especially not Tango—tried to tell Skizz to let it go.

#and like. now im thinking about how no one is ever really ride or die for tango. ever #people are allied with him but no one PRIORITIZES him #as a team rancher fan myself id be tempted to argue Jimmy is but you can just as easily point to how that was in a way self serving #and I dont just mean with the soulmate mechanic so worrying about tango was worrying about himself for jimmy #but i mean it in the way of jimmy was so worried about tango because #jimmy was worried about HIMSELF being the thing that hindered him and dragged him down #whihc is not to say that jimmy didnt also worry about tango #but it is to say that the dl rule set played heavily on jimmys insecurities and fears #he was most of the time worried about himself. YES because of how that affected tango. but also because it served his guilt complex #and so his intentions were colored by that as someone whos incredibly willing to make himself the problem whenevr he sees fit #whihc is again nothing on him hes my fave ya know i love the guy #i just mean even in double life where by design it shouldve happened tango wasnt made anyones top priority #not in the way that we come to see it across many other pairs. not in the obsessive worrying about his safety #or just in the general Being Weird About Each Other Way #sure you could argue skizz and tango last life...tango was for a while skizzs priority—until skizz shifted his sights to team best #even when team best wasnt giving their all backt o him that was skizzs focus #and if tango were really his priority over the wellbeing of the team such as it was for bdubs and etho #skizz wouldnt have tried to make tango forgive bdubs after he was betrayed #skizz wouldnt have kept asking tango to give more and more to a team he got little if not nothing out of over and over.....just #GAH! NO ONES EVER DEVOTED TO TANGO!!! NO ONE EVER CHOOSES TANGO TO BE THEIR //PERSON// THEIR. He’s out there again.

Rain whips against the windows, the dusk sky blotted out by dark, swirling clouds. He’s standing there— you can see him, out in the storm, looking blankly up at the old rickety mineshaft in the hillside.

You step outside. All at once, your senses are overwhelmed by the howling wind buffeting your ears. You flatten them down slightly, standing on the covered porch.

“Jimmy!” You shout to him. He doesn’t turn. Glancing up, you think the storm will only get worse.

“Jimmy,” you call again, “what are you doing? Come inside!!”

A strong gust of wind staggers Jimmy slightly, his feet sinking into the muddy ground as he steadies himself.

Of course.

You take a deep breath, then another, before stepping away from the porch, into the storm. Immediately you feel gross, your night shirt soaked by the lashing rain. You draw your tail up close to your back, picking your way carefully towards him.

“Jimmy!!”

He turns, sharply. “fWhip! Why— what’s the matter?”

“What do you mean?” You ask, incredulous. It feels like you have to shout to be heard over the roaring gales. “Come inside!”

“What do you mean,” Jimmy bites back, “it’s not raining that much, I’m fine.”

You sigh. That’s about what you expected him to say. “Please come inside,” you try anyway.

“I’ll be in soon,” he says, dismissive, before turning back towards the hillside.

You feel your whole body shiver, reaching up to push your soaking hair out of your eyes. After only a few moments out here, you already feel like you’re gonna catch a cold.

You glance at Jimmy.

His shoes are caked in mud, and he’s soaked to the bone— not a single part of him looks remotely dry. His hair is a constant drip stream of water down his face, and his white shirt is vaguely translucent with how drenched it is. He looks— for lack of a better word— almost a bit pitiful, really.

You tug lightly on his arm. “Please, you’re gonna get sick…”

“I’m fine,” he snaps, “it’s not even raining!”

Of course. What else did you expect, in the end?

You trudge back across the muddied path, stopping at the porch to shake off as much gunk from your shoes as you could, before stepping inside again.

Rain slams against the windows and the roof, you can hear the way the water rushes through the gutters. The house creaks with the force of the wind as the storm picks up.

You look out at Jimmy one last time.

He’s out there again.
