man can't believe post 9/11 islamaphobia is back in full swing, I don't want to relive that experience online.
There are people who get scared by us saying common Arabic phrase. Hell, even just speaking my mother tongue
Or worse, getting killed for it
One more reason I'm glad I decided against doing my residency in the US, I'd rather keep my respect and safety. And not deal with some racist lunatic physically

Friend need help:
In just 60 days we will be forced to leave our home. Rent prices in California has made it very very hard to find a new place despite our efforts. Owning this house is out of reach which is very depressing since my parents have worked countless years to keep this roof over our heads just for it to be taken away.
$1,495 USD raised of $5,600 goal
Finding a home that truly fits our needs has been a struggle, and planning for the future has caused us stress. But we're staying positive. We're working hard to save money and protect my nephews from this situation. Recently, our landlord offered to sell us the house we're currently in. It's tough right now, as we're barely making ends meet, but we're exploring options like seller financing or rent-to-own deals. House hunting has become monotonous, with unresponsive listings and deceptive schemes. It's not easy, especially with little kids, to find an apartment where noise isn't an issue. However, we believe things will work out. The support from our community has been incredible, and we're grateful for every dollar we receive. Though we know there's still a long road ahead, we will remain hopeful.

I'm good with concepts. Really good with concepts and ideas. But ask me to make something with these concepts, and I simply can't. Partially because I can only overthink and feel my writing isn't good enough, partially because I'm actually atrocious with dialogue and description. Let me ramble on for 15 paragraphs about a bunch of random opinions, facts, etc. And I'll be able to do that. I'm even doing it now. But ask me to actually write vivid descriptions and normal dialogue, and I just can't. It's depressing. Why was I blessed with an overthinking brain if I can't even do anything with the ideas it provides me!? Why!?

as much as I am pleased to see people having second chances at love and families being supportive, am I a terrible person to say it’s kinda sad to see another public successful male with a woman in their 20/30s than one of their generation? While supposedly love is love, it seems to help being a younger female statistically ;) I’m not oblivious to biological reasons but if someone already has kids…
You are not a terrible person, anon, and your opinion is so valid. I've mentioned several times that I'm not a fan either. I feel like it's getting worse. And dating that young is one thing, but then have children? I'm thinking of Robert de Niro and Al Pacino. It's so selfish. I don't care about so called biological reasons. For me, it's just an excuse.

It's pretty much identical to any other year, but this year I'm not feeling our tree at all. I even tried to refuse to put it up, but Brian was going to if I didn't and at least doing it myself meant I had control over it. 😕
Eta: also yes that's Bulbasaur. He guards the tree every year, tho he's not very good at it. The cats still eat the damned thing every time we turn away

Basically my understanding of Neros Day at DisneyLand rn
In Rotting FantasyLands: going to DisneyLand with high Expectations but then you see what it's actually like
Attention Shoppers: The Amount of money you have to pay for rides and DisneyLand stuff. And the amount of low payments they give to employees
Dead Malls: The Magic is Dying. You're losing belief in it
Colonists: the Magic is now dead. The park is getting intense. You wanna go home

The sad reality that when merchandising company won’t cater to your need, you have to create food yourself...
I also added some white into Shura’s eyes so he wouldn’t look dead

One literary reference in "Goncharov" (1973) you may not notice
So remember the flashbacks describing how Goncharov had got the seed money for his "Naples business"? It mentiones his friend Ilya Ilyich, another Russian immigrant and ex-nobelman, whos money was Goncharov's main funding source "despite Ilya knowing close to zero about funding probably the largest organised crime group in Italy".
Tumblr media
Well, this Ilya Ilyich is a huge reference to Oblomov - the main character of the same name novel by real Goncharov - famous Russian 19th century writer. Oblomov is a young, gentle and generous noble man who is incapable of making important decisions. Through the novel he spends most of his time in his bed, missing out on all opportunities for happiness the life gives him.
We can see the parallels between these characters: Ilya spends nearly all his money he had from his life in Russia, and he is easily fooled by more enterprising people like Goncharov. In final scenes of the movie it's mentioned that Ilya has sold his appartments and now lives in poverty.
I really like all the little details the movie adds to this character. We can deduce that Ilya's emotional state is, probably, a result of heavy depression, as he had to leave everything he loved behind and start a life from scratch in completely new surroundings. However, Ilya is not used to dealing with his problems on his own, so he leads his life in misery until disappearing from the story. We can see similar traits in Goncharov and other characters too.
TL;DR: Goncharov references the real Goncharov and does it brilliantly.
