Whoever wrote the wiki is either being intentionally deceptive or they never entered the dog room, notice how easily Papyrus's odd follower count is dismissed? Ah yes all these characters were written with such depth and interesting personality and backstory, except this guy, this one guy, literally only this guy. He's just a goofy guy with no mystery, don't question it.

Fun fact: the wiki page of Papyrus's brother only has his quotes that his brother is obviously present for, this means anyone reading ONLY that wiki page would have no idea of the weird shit Papyrus does, INTERESTING.

I've played through both the neutral and pacifist routes of Undertale, and something that I think is so cool is that actively trying to spare everyone is so much harder, but, like, in a good way.
On the neutral route I kept killing the Snowdrakes cause I didn't really want to bother with them, and that was EASY. And it got easier the more I did it.
And then I played the pacifist route and I was crawling through Snowdin's forest, laughing at Snowdrake's bad jokes despite being at critically low health, all for the sake of making sure that his father could see him again.
And yeah, it sucked. I died a lot. But I was smiling the entire time.
#undertale isn't subtle at all with its messages#and as much as I love unraveling the messages of works#it was really refreshing to be beat over the head with it#being cruel makes it easier to be cruel#and being kind hurts so much but pays you back tenfold#and if you have an ability that effectively makes you immortal#why not use it to be kind?#again and again and again#spamming the spare button even against people who wouldn't do the same for you#anyways I bought and 'finished' Undertale over the weekend#and I know I'm a few (lmao) years late to it#but talking to snowdrake's dad in the hotel actually made me cry during both routes#and it's a REALLY good game overall#it's also $10#I would never be able to do a genocide run I've gotten way too attached to everyone#rambles#undertale

i feel like ur opinion on who chara dreemurr was as a person is entirely hinged on how you interpret these lines
my favorite thing about undertale is how interpretative everything is. it’s why i believe the fandom’s thrived so much
there aren’t any confirmation for a lot of things, only hints.
and chara is a character (heh) that defies easy categorization because of this
one minute they're getting halos drawn over their head, the next they're public enemy number one.
are they good? bad? gray?
we get so hung up on the morality aspect of chara that we forget the most important thing of all, they were a person.
a person— child.
a child that hasn’t had the years to work through it or even atone for the hurt they caused.
a child that did not know love before they fell to the underground.
a child, raised in darkness, suddenly thrust into sunshine. it's blinding, overwhelming.
foreign.
after poisoning asgore, their only reaction was to laugh. now, you can depict this in any way you like, but to me, it was an honest mistake. and chara's laughter was more of a nervous reaction. they probably couldn't fully grasp the gravity of their actions. this wasn’t an instance of them maliciously reveling in asgore’s suffering. i simply cannot see it that way no matter how hard i try
the dreemurrs were unlike any of the humans they knew. they genuinely loved and cared for chara who just… didn't know how to react or cope with it in a way most would consider "appropriate"
and actually! when you’re up against snowdrake’s mom:
chara expects frisk to laugh, just like they did when their dad got poisoned. it's horrible to look at. it's terrifying. but all they can do to cope is laugh
they FULLY expected frisk to do so too, but frisk just.. Doesn’t.
chara was a human that found a family where they least expected it. they weren’t devoid of any good. they weren't so despondent.
they had hope in their eyes.
they were determined to liberate monsters
and having alrdy been hailed as the "hope" of monsterkind by their family n being the completionist (love this trait abt them btw) that they were:
they were going to see this through. push all the limits. use all means. they will have power.
this is where things get muddy.
chara is a creature of reason. their decision to poison themselves and die, allowing asriel to absorb their soul, was, in their view, the most optimal and effective choice. there was no future left for chara on the surface anyways. there was also no straightforward method to obtain a human soul. each realization logically led to the next until everything seamlessly aligned.
their plan kicked off and started going their way. they intentionally carried their own lifeless body and headed to their village, fully anticipating the reactions they'd provoke. they had hoped to show asriel just how horrible humans are. they had hoped that by doing this, asriel would understand. the reason why humans must all be eradicated.
but to their utter shock, asriel resisted; he never fought back.
emotion foiled their plan, resulting in their own demise and that of their beloved brother. their sacrifice was for naught, the prospect of making peace between the two races has been tossed aside, irretrievably diminished.
asriel was right. chara wasn't exactly the greatest person. however, him acknowledging they weren't does not necessarily imply them to be a fervent force of evil (and i also think he meant it as in, he LITERALLY used to believe chara was the SINGLE greatest person, but eh, technicalities)
they were a flawed person, who died as such. they've made an abundance of bad choices in how they handled their trauma but that doesn't exempt them from redemption. especially not in a game that focuses on mercy and unconditional kindness and forgiveness and and and
and you know what? pacifist is their redemption. they don't rlly do anything that explicit in this route but. the silly narrations. the encouraging words frisk hears during asriel's boss fight. how frisk was able to save asriel and call out to him. i like to believe it was all chara. they've seen you prove that humans can be good too and with that..... they became a tool to free monsters, just as they had always intended :-]

Various Undertale Headcanons
Felt like doing this. It's mostly about minor characters and NPCs
The Froggit you speak to about the yellow names is friends with the ruins dummy. That's how it can get the entire underground to change their spare names from yellow to white or pink, despite being unable to leave the Ruins. It just asks the Dummy to tell the folk outside. That Froggit is also one of the only people that know they exist. Most others don't realize that dummy has a ghost living in it
The last non ghost, human, or flower to leave the Ruins were Whimsalot, Final Froggit, and Astigmatism. They had to 'face the horrible monster that guards the gate to Snowdin' to leave (Fought Toriel until she opened the door for them. Toriel didn't do much fighting). Whimsalot feels a lot of guilt for leaving Whimsun behind
Crystal (Snowdrake's mom) was born incredibly weak and was always bound for a short life. The reason she fell in love with Snowy's dad is cause he joked around about her condition. Those around him thought his jokes were in poor taste, but Crystal appreciated someone making light of her situation instead of just treating her with pity and sadness. The jokes sounding mean to Crystal was part of the reason a rift grew between him and Snowdrake
Ice Cap's family has a strong tradition of making ice clothing. It started off as a way to make armor easily, but later just became for cosmetics. Ice Cap's love of its own hat comes from them wanting acknowledgment and attention from their family. Its hard mode counterpart would be called Ice Sage. Probably look like a wizard
Noelle's mom grew up in Snowdin forest, far from Snowdin Town. Gyftrot is an older relative of hers, and like them, she enjoys solitude. Her outgoing husband managed to break through her shell a bit, but after his death, she went back to being a hermit.
Noelle and Dess often sneak off into town together. Going off to get them back home is one of the only reasons Carol ever leaves the house. The townsfolk are slightly intimidated by her
Assuming Dess is around Burgerpants' age and Noelle is around Frisk's age, they'd be about 19 and 12 respectively. Might make them closer to 17 and 13 just to they weren't born so far apart
The red bird in Grillby's is Berdly's mom. Berdly himself is in Hotland for school and to work with Ms. Boom, so they usually don't see each other often. Berdly does call a lot though, red bird telling him about the goings on and gossip in the rest of the underground. I'm unsure what became of Berdly's dad
Alvin is a professor Hotland University, teaching history with an interest in religion and legends
Waterfall has a lot of farms we don't see. Aaron lives on one, but was always more interested in flexing and working on his muscles than actually working. His brother did most of the work around the farm until he fell down. In Deltarune, his brother's still alive, and Aaron is a little jealous of his physique
Loren and Rainy kid are friends
Catti's hair is natrually purple, like her mom's. Catty helped dye it black with a pink streak
Bratty has two younger siblings. Creepy twins

The Two Losers of Hometown
So, I replayed deltarune again, which isn't really anything new, I always replay it from time to time. But this time I kinda started thinking about two characters that I never really see much discussion about. Monster kid and Snowy. A large part could be well, they aren't really important to the story as of chapter 2. But I feel like there's a lot of potential with them.
Looking at their dialog, it really feels like they only talk to each other because they really don't have anyone else to talk to. I feel this way because in chapter one they're both only partners because Kris was late to class and Monster kid didn't have any other option, as monster kid mentions being Snowy’s partner to Kris like it's something they really didn’t want. But Snowy and Monster kid can be seen hanging out outside of school, so maybe it's not so bad for poor old MK.
There's a few lines that imply that monster kid and kris actually have history together, similar to how frisk and monster kid were "friends" in undertale. It's hard to tell how close they really were since there is barely any dialog that I'm aware of that hints to Kris's feelings about monster kid. There is a line in chapter 1, after a joke about the 3 armless students in class playing handball, Monster kid says that Susie sucks and Kris looks annoyed at Monster kid. Which probably doesn't help their already weak relationship. Monster kid seems to know something about Kris and the bunker because of what they say to Snowy when they're contemplating about going in, whether Kris told them something about it or it's just a general rumor that everyone knows is kind of hard to tell. And going back to what I said about the lack of dialog mentioning Monster kid, there actually isn't any dialog about monster kid in the game (that I'm aware of) aside from when they're directly being interacted with by Kris or Snowy. This is probably because it's hard to have a character talk about them without a name drop, and it would be really weird from someone like Noelle to refer to them as "monster kid".
Snowy is the character that's probably most up for interpretation since we know the least about him. And most about what we do know about him can be inferred from undertale. His real name is Snowdrake but he got the nickname Snowy from his mom, He likes making jokes, his moms dead. And this is a really huge one, that I didn't even know before checking the wiki, IN UNDERTALE HE RAN AWAY FROM HOME BECAUSE OF HIS DAD?
It's not clear what Snowy means by his dad being "cold" but to avoid discussing any unsavory topics, I'll leave it at that his home situation was bad enough for him to decide to run away. It's pretty easy to infer that Snowy uses humor to deal with all of the stuff going on in his life just because of the fact that his life wasn't all that great in deltarune/undertale with his mom being dead. But him trying to play off him running away from home, by cracking a pun about it practically confirms it. Snowy and his dad's relationship seems to be healthier in deltarune since Snowy hasn't decides to run away from home, but his dad still seems to be stern as snowy mentions that his dad "wouldn't let him see the end of it" if he got caught skipping class like kris in chapter one. It's actually pretty sad that Snowy doesn't really seem to have that many friends outside of monster kid since it seems that his coping mechanism of always making jokes as well him being quick to anger seems to be why people avoid him.
I guess that's all I really gotta say right now, these dorks have a surprising amount of depth to them despite not having major roles in both of the games they're in. I just hope they get used some day; But that's probably wishful thinking. I only say that because right now they both give off strong background character energy. Mostly because of Snowy being a recycled enemy from undertale and monster kid not even having an official "name". Which sucks because I feel like you could write a really cool story with these two.

If you kill him, in any subsequent fights around Snowdin his friend Chilldrake is looking for him :(

Where you are
A humble interdimensional restaurant that’s based off of this anime called Isekai shokudou.
The food served there is mostly Vietnamese food.
The actual building is somewhere in the quieter part of ebott city. Lumina’s family owns the diner.
The front door magically splits (unseen) and appears in many different aus twice every week.
The diner only opens on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday in their universe. (Even though people hardly come visit. Their area isn’t a place lots of people go visit.)
The restaurant is closed on Saturdays & Sundays
Some of the monsters from different aus work there too. Only on Monday and Friday though, since the door appears on those days.
Everyone uses a nickname to address each other. Makes things less confusing, especially when a monster and their counterpart meet.
They’re always open to hiring new staff. (The pay is 40$/g every 2 hours)
Each table has a glyph carved into the table that protects the customer(s) seated there. Though, it looks more like a table design rather than a protection spell to outsiders.
All staff + Poca, wear a custom warding mask as a precaution. Though not necessarily over their face.
Warding from what you ask? Well, having a door that split in space-time can attract some interesting beings during closing time. =3
They don’t exactly need extra security, since the family are quite cable of handling hostile people. They also got two healers when any severe damage happens.

Lumina: [naiad & partly human] She’s a waitress. Is often nervous & reserved with new customers, but tries not to let it show. If you come visit & interact with her often enough, she’ll be more open with you.
Is often seen sketching new dessert ideas/designs on either slow days or her spare time.
Tiến mien/Calum (Dad): [human healer mage] Usually a shy, if not polite man. Is an entirely different person when in his element and very quick cook. His speed doesn’t reduce the food’s quality somehow.
Aria (Mom): [naiad] a chef who specializes in seafood dishes. Graceful in technique & looks, but is surprisingly quite lively.
Romilda (Aunt): [dryad] a rambunctious cook who’s always up to try new dishes & experimenting food combinations.
Kaden (Uncle): [werefox] a gentle giant of a waiter. Unintentionally comes off as stoic. Hasn’t quite gotten the hang of English yet, but is trying.
Poca: [fae] doesn’t really work there, (isn’t old enough to get a job anyway) but customers often find them to be good company. Recommends people to order any desserts made by their cousin Lumina.

Crystal (swap au): [snowdrake] working part-time as a waitress. Since she already works as a stand-up comedian at the hotel.
Sorsha (fell au): [shyren] helps in preparing ingredients and plating the dishes. Used to be a lot stricter & meaner with the others to hide her nervousness & timidity, but learned to ease up and relax around the family. Not so much around the customers though, but she’s civil with them at least. (If she has to talk with them for whatever reason anyways.)
Wish-wosh: [woshua] helps with keeping the place clean and an efficient janitor to boot.
Swish-swosh: [woshua] younger twin of Wish-wosh. Has better dexterity to help in washing dishes, cups, & utensils.
(Poca and Lumina even made them both a ‘best janitors’ picture frame for them to keep. As thanks for staying back to help clean so much, even when they don’t have to.)

it’s really rare that I feel like rambling ideas without someone prompting me or at least having some art to show for it, but I got a new swap idea a couple days ago and kinda feel like I want some thoughts on whether it’s any good or not, I guess? :>;;
I was thinking about how Rudy seems unlikely to survive in Deltarune and is already dead in Undertale, and that it’d be nice if he got to actually live in Underswap since characters like Asriel and Chara get to enjoy that luxury. so after going through which UT characters have family members and I haven’t already swapped, I‘m considering swapping the Holiday family with the Snowdrake family in Underswap MH ❄️
here’s some very early ideas I’m not calling canon yet:
Rudy < - > Snowdrake’s father (might just call him Mr. Snowdrake in-universe)
in place of Snowdrake’s father being a comedian at MTT Resort, Rudy works as a dad-jokey daytime DJ at Club Spook, and lives in Snowdin Town with his daughters. in post-pacifist when Asgore resumes his role as monsterkind’s Santa, Rudy gets to know him and works alongside him as his Rudolph.
like UT Rudy, Mr. Snowdrake fell down a few years before 'game' events, though this happened before Undyne’s experiments. he was an old friend of Toriel, despite not being fond of her punny sense of humour.
Noelle < - > Snowy
[note that Noelle would specifically replace only the first Snowdrake encounter, leaving other individuals of the Snowdrake monster species to appear unswapped as repeated encounters]
Noelle is a young child around the same age as Chara, and is trying to be brave by exploring Snowdin Forest on her own when she runs into Chara by accident. she's too timid to respond to any acts, but if Chara waits a turn she'll try to calm herself down by singing a festive song, and can then be spared by singing along with her (basically functions the same as Snowdrake encounters).
Snowy is a teen monster who Chara does not meet Underground, but Toriel knows him via his parents and appreciates his puns. in post-pacifist she's glad he gets to see the sun and the surface, like how UT Asgore talked about UT Noelle in the winter alarm clock dialogue.
Mayor Holiday (I’ve seen some headcanons/fanworks name her Carol) < - > Crystal (canon name for Snowdrake’s mother in Deltarune)
Carol wasn't a mayor like her DR counterpart, but she was a leading community figure in Snowdin Town. after falling down (possibly from overworking herself) she replaces Crystal as one of the Amalgamates, and later reunites with her daughters at the end of the pacifist route. as an Amalgamate her personality has mellowed, but her strict, hardworking attitude can show through at times.
unlike her UT and DR counterparts Crystal is alive and well, living with her son Snowy. since her husband's passing she remains friends with Toriel, and encourages her son's comedic hobbies.
Dess (referred to by DR Rudy and Noelle, and UT Asgore mentions Rudy has more than one daughter, so I’m thinking an older sister for Noelle) < - > Chilldrake
like UT Chilldrake, Dess only appears in-battle if Noelle is killed, and likewise is a one-time encounter. though she doesn't wear UT Chilldrake's sunglasses, she's the cool big sister type and very protective of Noelle, hence trying to follow her into Snowdin Forest from a distance to keep her safe.
Chilldrake is another unseen monster, but like his UT counterpart is friends with Snowy.
...if I’m being honest half the reason I started on this thought process was that I’m beginning to very lowkey ship Asgorudy and wanted to figure out a way they could be less tragic, so of course I turned to Underswap </3 as with everything else in this post I’ve not decided if that’s what will happen, but if I go with these swaps then the groundwork is there to potentially develop them at least (and obviously there’s more to this than just a ship)
anyway thoughts on whether this sounds vaguely interesting or not would be appreciated o/
#holoskart rambles#underswap mh rambles#there's also one other concept that came from all this but it's a bit of a tangent so I left it out#the short version is when snowdrake's dad was alive he assisted toriel with semi-replacing santa while asgore was in the ruins#so the detail of UT rudy helping asgore with christmas/gyftmas is present with both their swap versions and the characters in their roles#anyway I'm very unlikely to add more deltarune characters to swap mh. the holiday family get a pass bc they exist in UT too#maaaaybe I'll think up a swap for susie/suzy at some point but no promises
