Happy International Day of the Girl! Today we celebrate girls all around the world, for everything they do and everything they are 💟
Did you know that right here in the U.S:
🎀 Women, who make up more than half the population, have cast almost 10 MILLION MORE votes than men in recent elections.
🎀 After all of the attacks on women’s progress and rights last year, we saw people registering to vote online increase by 332% on the national level going into the 2022 midterms.
🎀 Hundreds of elections are taking place across the country in 2023 — and by participating in them, YOU can commit to voting in the best interest of all the girls in your life.
Make sure you’re ready and registered to vote this year on behalf of all the girls you love, right at weall.vote/check!

Photo by @amivitale. Najma studies by candlelight in the single room she shares with her ten siblings in Kenya's Loita Hills. She passed her secondary school exams with marks high enough to obtain entrance to a county high school. In 2003, Kenya enacted a law that made primary education free. As a result of this legislation, enrollment rates increased to 84 percent. However, only one in five girls make it to their eighth year. This high rate of dropouts is a result of early marriage, female genital cutting, poverty and other factors. Investing in girls' education has profound impacts. According to the The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, (@UNESCO), when all females in developing countries complete primary education, child mortality drops by a sixth, saving nearly a million lives every year. safehalton She is beautiful
She is important
She is the future
See her tender heart
Yearning for love
Hear her voice
Don't take it away
She is to be valued
Hold her hands
Lead her to her purpose
She is a womb
In time she would birth life
She is much more
A mind full of ideas
Soft yet powerful
She is a leader
She is a supporter
She is a true friend
Invest in her too
Why make her feel any less
Why hold back her rights
Why the hate
Why the discrimination
She is a girl
Celebrate her

ATMIS Troops and Dhobley Women's Association Collaborate
On a bright Wednesday in Dhobley, the troops of the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) collaboratively joined forces with a local women's group to commemorate the International Day of the Girl Child. This heartwarming initiative was designed to provide mentorship and support to the girls of Dhobley Primary School.

The focus was on educating the schoolgirls about essential topics, including menstrual health and hygiene. Major Ruth Omedi, the ATMIS Sector Two Gender Officer, explained the mission behind their involvement, stating, "We are here to talk to the girls about various aspects that affect teenage girls, including menstrual hygiene, mental health, and substance abuse. It's our mandate as ATMIS to ensure the empowerment of women and girls. In particular, we are focusing on health because it's the only wealth these girls have at the moment, and we need to preserve that wealth for their future."

She highlighted the positive impact of educating the girls about menstrual health, general hygiene, and good sanitation practices.   Empowering Teenage Girls for the Challenges Ahead Naim Mohamed, a dedicated member of the Dhobley Women's Association, expressed her optimism about the impact of the session. She believes it will empower teenage girls to confidently navigate the challenges of menstruation with dignity. She also extended her gratitude to ATMIS for taking this important initiative, saying, "I am happy to be part of this program, which aims to empower teenage girls with vital information on personal hygiene and counsel them on mental health. We want to request ATMIS to conduct similar sessions regularly."
