As Gov. Ron DeSantis and his allies target “woke” ideology, the Florida House on Wednesday gave final approval to a bill that includes preventing colleges and universities from spending money on diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives.
The bill (SB 266), which now will go to DeSantis, touched off a fierce debate about Florida’s higher-education system and campus speech.
“Diversity, equity and inclusion, like so many other terms adopted by the woke left, is being used as a club to silence things, to say that if you don’t agree with them, you are somehow racist or homophobic or whatever other word that you want to use to criticize people,” Rep. Randy Fine, R-Brevard County, said. “The fact of the matter is these terms have been hijacked by those who want to use them to bully and use them to shut down debate, to actually do the opposite of what these words are supposed to do.”
But bill critics said diversity, equity and inclusion efforts are important and that the legislation will drive away top faculty members and students.
“This attack on higher education is hurting Florida’s brand,” House Minority Leader Fentrice Driskell, D-Tampa, said. “We have a very good higher-education system with lower costs than many other states. But these radical changes risk throwing our colleges and universities into chaos.”
“We don’t see the data that DEI is ruining our schools, we actually see the opposite of it," said Rep. Ashley Gantt, D-Miami. "We actually see that it’s encouraging robust conversation, different viewpoints, and that’s what college is all about.”
The Republican-controlled House voted 81-34 along party lines to pass the bill, which the Senate approved 27-12 last week.

DIY vs. Professional Roof Cleaning: Pros and Cons
Tumblr media
Maintaining a clean and healthy roof is crucial to the longevity and overall appearance of your home. Over time, roofs can accumulate debris, moss, algae, and other unsightly elements that not only compromise the aesthetic appeal but also lead to potential structural damage. When it comes to roof cleaning, homeowners often find themselves at a crossroads - should they embark on a do-it-yourself (DIY) approach or seek the expertise of a professional roof cleaning service? In this article, we will compare the advantages and disadvantages of each option while emphasizing the expertise and safety benefits of choosing professionals. As Soap & The City, a leading roof cleaning company serving Charlotte, NC, at (704) 266-0795, we believe that an informed decision is the key to maintaining a clean and well-protected roof.
The Appeal of DIY Roof Cleaning
Many homeowners opt for DIY roof cleaning due to a perception of cost savings and a sense of accomplishment. After all, there are numerous resources available online, offering step-by-step guides and videos on how to clean your roof effectively. However, before picking up that pressure washer or climbing up the ladder, it's essential to consider the following:
a. Cost: DIY roof cleaning may initially seem budget-friendly, but it comes with its hidden costs. Renting or purchasing specialized cleaning equipment, safety gear, cleaning agents, and even potential repair expenses for any accidental damages can quickly add up.
b. Time and Effort: Cleaning a roof is a laborious task that requires time, effort, and proper planning. Depending on the size and condition of your roof, a DIY approach could take several days or even weeks to complete.
c. Lack of Expertise: Roof cleaning demands a certain level of expertise to identify different types of roofing materials, the appropriate cleaning agents, and the right pressure to avoid causing damage. Without this knowledge, there's a risk of using harmful chemicals or excessive force, leading to roof degradation and voided warranties.
The Advantages of Professional Roof Cleaning
Choosing a reputable professional roof cleaning service like Soap & The City offers numerous advantages that go beyond a simple cleaning job. Here are the key benefits of hiring professionals:
a. Expertise and Experience: Professional roof cleaners are well-trained and experienced in handling various roofing materials. They understand the nuances of different types of roofs and are equipped with the knowledge to select the appropriate cleaning methods, ensuring a thorough and safe cleaning process.
b. Safety First: Roof cleaning can be hazardous, especially for those without proper training and safety equipment. Professionals are equipped with the right safety gear, reducing the risk of accidents and injuries.
c. Quality Results: A professional roof cleaning service guarantees superior results. By using commercial-grade cleaning agents and state-of-the-art equipment, they can effectively eliminate stubborn stains, moss, algae, and other debris, restoring the roof to its pristine condition.
d. Preventative Maintenance: Regular roof cleaning not only enhances the appearance of your home but also prevents potential damage. Professionals can identify minor issues like loose shingles or damaged flashing during the cleaning process, allowing you to address these concerns before they escalate into costly repairs.
e. Time and Convenience: Hiring professionals saves you time and effort. They will efficiently clean your roof, enabling you to focus on other essential tasks and activities.
f. Environmentally Friendly: Soap & The City takes pride in offering eco-friendly roof cleaning services. Our products are biodegradable and safe for the environment, protecting your landscaping and the ecosystem around your home.
In the battle of DIY vs. Professional Roof Cleaning, it is evident that the advantages of hiring a professional service far outweigh the benefits of attempting the task yourself. Soap & The City, your trusted roof cleaning experts in Charlotte, NC, at (704) 266-0795, offers comprehensive and reliable services that ensure your roof remains clean, well-maintained, and protected for years to come. Hello! i would like a spirit guide reading, my initials are CF and im a scorpio 14/11, i love your work thank u so much!
👋 hello, CF ♏ 🦂 Scorpio,
Your Spirit Guide is Goddess of the 🌈 Rainbow, Messenger of the Gods: 🌿 IRIS
Tumblr media
IRIS BIO:
In Greek mythology, Iris (/ˈaɪrɪs/; Greek: Ἶρις, Ancient Greek: [îːris]) is the personification and goddess of the rainbow and messenger of the gods.
According to Hesiod's Theogony, Iris is the daughter of Thaumas and the Oceanid Electra and the sister of the Harpies: Aello and Ocypete. During the Titanomachy, Iris was the messenger of the Olympian gods while her twin sister Arke betrayed the Olympians and became the messenger of the Titans. She is the goddess of the rainbow. She also serves nectar to the goddesses and gods to drink. Zephyrus, who is the god of the west wind is her consort. Their son is Pothos (Nonnus, Dionysiaca). According to the Dionysiaca of Nonnos, Iris' brother is Hydaspes (book XXVI, lines 355-365).
She is also known as one of the goddesses of the sea and the sky. Iris links the gods to humanity. She travels with the speed of wind from one end of the world to the other[1] and into the depths of the sea and the underworld.
Iris had numerous poetic titles and epithets, including chrysopteros (χρυσόπτερος "golden winged"), podas ōkea (πόδας ὠκέα "swift footed") or podēnemos ōkea (ποδήνεμος ὠκέα "wind-swift footed"), roscida ("dewy", Latin), and Thaumantias (Θαυμαντιάς "Daughter of Thaumas, Wondrous One"), aellopus (ἀελλόπους "storm-footed, storm-swift).[2] She also watered the clouds with her pitcher, obtaining the water from the sea.
🦋🌸🦋The hieroglyph for her name originally used meant (female) of flesh, i.e. mortal, and she may simply have represented deified, real, queens. The most commonly used name for this deity, Isis, is a Greek corruption of the Egyptian name; and its pronunciation as 'eye-sis' is a further corruption by English speakers. The true Egyptian pronunciation is unknown, as Egyptian hieroglyphs only recorded consonants, and left out most of the vowels. The Egyptian hieroglyphics for her name are commonly transliterated as jst; as a convenience, Egyptologists pronounce that as ee-set.
IRIS (Iris), a daughter of Thaumas (whence she is called Thaumantias, Virg. Aen. ix. 5) and Electra, and sister of the Harpies. (Hes. Theog. 266, 780; Apollod. i. 2. § 6; Plat. Theaet. p. 155. d; Plut. de Plac. Philos. iii. 5.) In the Homeric poems she appears as the minister of the Olympian gods, who carries messages from Ida to Olympus, from gods to gods, and from gods to men. (Il. xv. 144, xxiv. 78, 95, ii. 787, xviii. 168, Hymn. in Apoll. Del. 102, &c.) In accordance with these functions of Iris, her name is commonly derived from erô eirô; so that Iris would mean "the speaker or messenger:" but it is not impossible that it may be connected with eirô, "I join," whence eirênê ; so that Iris, the goddess of the rainbow, would be the joiner or conciliator, or the messenger of heaven, who restores peace in nature. In the Homeric poems, it is true, Iris does not appear as the goddess of the rainbow, but the rainbow itself is called iris (Il xi. 27, xvii. 547): and this brilliant phenomenon in tile skies, which vanishes as quickly as it appears, was regarded as the swift minister of the gods. Her genealogy too supports the opinion that Iris was originally the personification of the rainbow. In the earlier poets, and even in Theocritus (xvii. 134) and Virgil (Aen. v. 610) Iris appears as a virgin goddess; but according to later writers, she was married to Zephyrus, and became by him the mother of Eros. (Eustath. ad Hom. pp. 391, 555; Plut. Amat. 20.) With regard to her functions, which we have above briefly described, we may further observe, that the Odyssey never mentions Iris, but only Hermes as the messenger of the gods: in the Iliad, on the other hand, she appears most frequently, and on the most different occasions. She is principally engaged in the service of Zeus, but also in that of Hera, and even serves Achilles in calling the winds to his assistance. (Il. xxiii. 199.) She further performs her services not only when commanded, but she sometimes advises and assists of her own accord (iii. 122, xv. 201. xviii. 197. xxiv. 74, &c.). In later poets she appears on the whole in the same capacity as in the Iliad, but she occurs gradually more and more exclusively in the service of Hera, both in the later Greek and Latin poets. (Callim. Hymn. in Del. 232; Virg. Aen. v. 606; Apollon. Rhod. ii. 288, 432; Ov. Met. xiv. 830, &c.) Some poets describe Iris actually as the rainbow itself, but Servius (ad Aen v. 610) states that the rainbow is only the road on which Iris travels, and which therefore appears whenever the goddess wants it, and vanishes when it is no longer needed: and it would seem that this latter notion was the more prevalent one in antiquity. Respecting the worship of Iris very few traces have come down to us, and we only know that the Delians offered to her on the island of Hecate cakes made of wheat and honey and dried figs. (Athen. xiv. p. 645; comp. Müller, Aegin. p. 170.) No statues of Iris have been preserved, but we find her frequently represented on vases and in bas-reliefs, either standing and dressed in a long and wide tunic, over which hangs a light upper garment, with wings attached to her shoulders, and carrying the herald's staff in her left hand; or she appears flying with wings attached to her shoulders and sandals, with the staff and a pitcher in her hands.
AELLOPUS (Aellopous), a surname of Iris, the messenger of the gods, by which she is described as swift-footed like a storm-wind. Homer uses the form aellopos. (Il. 409.)
Source: Dictionary of Greek and Roman Biography and Mythology.
A goddess named “Iris” personified the rainbow in the mythology of ancient Greece. Most works of art depict her either in the form of a beautiful rainbow, or as a lovely maiden. She wore wings on her shoulders and usually carried a pitcher in one hand. Her name combined the Greek words for “messenger” and “the rainbow” to signify her dual role. Some accounts depict her as one of the goddess Hera’s assistants. (Hera carries associations with the sky.)
The ancient Greeks considered Iris the female counterpart of Hermes. She served as a messenger from Mount Olympus. She would use her pitcher to scoop up water from the ocean and carry it into the clouds. Some legends also hold she used her pitcher to collect water from the River Styx, the shadowy river separating the world of human beings from the underworld. Many Greeks viewed Iris as an important link between mortals and the realm of the gods.
The Family Life of Iris
Most sources describe Iris as the daughter of the Oceanid cloud nymph Elektra and Thaumas, a minor god sometimes associated with the sea. She would have been one of the Titan Oceanus’ granddaughters. Her rainbow frequently appeared in the sky over bodies of water.
Legends differ about her life as an adult. Some stories describe her as unmarried and primarily a messenger for the Olympian gods. In other accounts, she fell in love with Zephyros, the god of the West Wind. They had a son named Pothos, who personified Desire.
Iris as a Messenger
Iris would frequently use her pitcher to serve nectar to the gods and goddesses on Mount Olympus. When these major ancient Greek deities needed to send messages to other gods or to human beings, they would sometimes ask Iris to transmit their words. She could travel very quickly from Mount Olympus to Earth, and could even journey quickly into Hades.
Many ancient Greeks considered Iris one of the most beautiful goddesses. The ancient Greeks described her as “swift footed”, suggesting she could respond rapidly to requests. In legends, she carries symbolic associations with messages and communication.
WHAT DOES SHE LOOK LIKE ?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Iris is depicted in ancient Greek vase painting as a beautiful young woman with golden wings, a herald's rod (kerykeion), and sometimes a water-pitcher (oinochoe) in her hand. She was usually depicted standing beside Zeus or Hera, sometimes serving nectar from her jug. As cup-bearer of the gods Iris is often indistinguishable from Hebe in art.
WHAT DOES IRIS MEAN?
The message that rainbows connect us to the immortal can be seen in many mythologies worldwide, including Japanese and Navajo, though each has a different back story and belief. In our lives, we can see the rainbow as being symbolic of a transition, suggesting a potential change from one phase to another.
Rainbow – Other Symbolic Meanings
In general, rainbows are seen as transcending the earthly realm. Rainbows are the physical symbolism of this ascent. It provides us with inspiration to achieve greater heights and seek wisdom from the worlds beyond. The rainbow is the bridge that closes the gap between these two realms and allows for the possibility for communication. It is symbolic of possibility in many other ways as well. The glowing arch appears high above our horizon and can look close and distant at the same time. We are incapable of finding its end.
The rainbow challenges us to be a better version of ourselves. A more inclusive person, a person who seeks a challenge, a person who desires spiritual growth and a connection to the spiritual realm, a person who endures the darkness in pursuit of the light.
Like the rainbow, these things can seem far away and out of our reach. The important thing, though, is that we keep striving for them. The rainbow symbolism is powerful because it reminds us of the endless possibilities. It shows us vast and magical our world is. Rainbows challenge us to confront and embrace our own potential.

1. Your Final Major Project
What is the title of  your Project? What do you aim to produce? How does this relate to your work  and ideas from your programme so far and how does it extend your knowledge,  understanding and creative ability?
(guide: 150 words)
‘Exploring the self  through history of arts iconography’. I aim to produce work that explores  ‘the self’. Specifically, the attributes one wishes to project, as well as  those that one would like to conceal. I plan on achieving this through a visual  conversation, using iconography in art ranging from ancient to modern. I am  intrigued by and intend to use and play with the symbolism of these objects,  poses, and backgrounds; in order to gather a greater understanding of ‘the  self’. I will be continuing to world build which I plan to execute through  various forms of portraiture. Recommencing my exploration of narratives  through surreal and playful imagery to embody a reality. I expect this to  extend my knowledge of symbolism in the visual world, my understanding of  myself and others, and to push my creative ability by using traditional  imagery in a current, relevant, and honest way for myself and subject matter.
2. Influences, Research, Sources and Ideas
What are your  influences, starting points and contextual references and how are they  relevant to your ideas? What subject areas do you intend to research and what  are the likely sources of information (media sources, museums, specific  locations, performances, etc.) you plan to use? You do not need an extensive  list in this section, but include your bibliography in the Appendix, clearly  identifying all references including texts, periodicals, websites, etc.
(guide: 150 words)
My initial artistic  influences are Tim Walker because of his exuberant world building using  sculpture and set, Cindy Sherman due to her creation of narratives and  character through costume and prosthetics, and William Blake owing to his  narrative work in which his own iconography was created, as I intend to also  do.
Potent symbolic imagery  such as in Hieronymus Bosch’s Garden of Earthly delights, and folkloric work  of the medieval period for example ‘the unicorn tapestries’.  Are relevant to my exploration of ‘the  self’ through symbolism and dream like world building. Through Academic  references, books, documentaries, exhibitions, films, and gallery spaces I intend  to research into visual iconography, religion, and gender. To enrich my  knowledge and in doing so be able to create works not only symbolising ‘the  self’ but having a conversation of what the subject’s self represents currently  and historically. Hopefully exploring, gender, ‘morality’, religion, myth,  and lore.
3. Techniques, Processes and Timescale
What techniques and  processes do you intend to use? Describe the range of media and materials  relevant to your project and how you may use them to explore and develop your  ideas. Include aspects of studio practice, workshop procedures, or the use of  particular equipment and software. Give an indicative timescale for your  project and how you intend to plan your time in order to investigate,  develop, produce and evaluate your project fully. This could be a daily or  weekly schedule.  (Please attach at the  end of this form.)
(guide: 150 words)
I intend to use the  studio photography room when creating film and photographic portraiture, so I  can utilise the set lighting and take clear pictures to enhance the scene created.  This will give me the freedom to explore different compositions and see how  that effects the portrayal of ‘the self’. The objects I plan on creating to build  these iconography based narratives will vary in material. I will make ceramic  glazed sculpture to enhance the attributes of the certain objects, for  example a pearl. I will use screen-printing to experiment with the images I  have created, this medium will allow for a discussion with colour and sizing.  Painting set backgrounds will allow for explorations into landscape  iconography. The use of film with allow me to create a narrative not only  through sculpture but a moving story with them. Using mud rock will enable me  to play with size and create wearable work. Perfect for my dream-like world building.
 4.  Method of Evaluation
How will you critically  review and analyse your work and determine if it is successful? How will you  identify directions for ongoing development? Do you have a method to record  the critical response to your ideas? How do you propose to assess the success  of your Final Major Project and what will be your methods of evaluation?
(guide: 100 words)
I will critically review  my work by continuously evaluating it, seeing if I have pushed it and myself  to its fullest potential, visually and conceptually. Analysing it through its  relevance, contextual, and visual strengths, realises successes and flaws and  building upon them. The direction for my ongoing development will be  identified by my interests in research and what media I find works well with  my concepts. Continually evaluating the relevance of concept, context and  material. Responses to my work and ideas will be found in tutorials and peer  evaluations, which I will seek out weekly. This important information will be  kept in my sketchbooks and blog. I plan to assess the success of my final  major project by reflecting on all my work and writing an evaluation.
5. Appendix
Include an appendix for  the bibliography and any other relevant material for your Final Major  Project.
Compile an accurate bibliography before starting your  project, that correctly acknowledges all references including texts, books,  websites, magazines, films, documentaries, museums that you will study for  initial research on your project.

Mass Healing Word 5e- Aid for all Heal FAQ
Mass Healing Word 5e is the best quality game. Many people Playing this game. I hope you are must be satisfied to play this game. Play Now

What is the Mass Healing word in dnd 5e?
Mass Healing Word 5e:
As you call out words of restoration, up to six animals of your choice, which you can see within range, recover Hit Points equal to 1d4 + your Spellcasting Skill modifier. This spell does not affect Undead or Constructs.
At Higher Levels: When you cast this spell utilizing a spell slot of 4th or higher, the Healing raises by 1d4 for every slot degree over 3rd.
What are the attributes of 5e Mass Healing Word?
Three evocation
Casting Time: 1 bonus action
Range: 60 feet
Components: V
Duration: Instantaneous
Classes: Cleric
Tumblr media
How do you compare prayer of healing 5e vs. mass cure wounds?
You can’t use Prayer of Healing in combat, while Mass Healing Word 5e can stop a total party kill if several party members hit 0 HP. The main distinction other than hit points treated is that prayer of Healing has a 10 minute casting time. In comparison, the mass recovery word has a bonus activity casting time.  Play Now
5e Aid vs. Mass Healing Word
Pretty self-explanatory from the title. The Aid 5e spell, in the 3rd level, is a flat +10 current and max hp boost.
I typically have many things happening at once, so long as I’ve had the time to establish how I perform clerics. Suppose I am the storm, which I usually am. In that case, I will have telephone lightning heading (or gust of breeze when we are inside ). And worrying about sacrificing my focus on the throw beacon takes away from what I view as my primary purpose, which is crowd control.
For those times, I am not a tempest cleric. Spirit guardians are my go-to for massive CC; throw into a religious weapon for right action, along with my presence in battle, is felt reasonably hard. I can not stress my celebration is rolling low on a d4, potentially only curing six wellness.
The only real downside I can see to picking Aid 5e over Mass Healing Word 5e is that you can aim half as many folks with it. However, the maximum hp growth lasts for 8 hours, requiring no concentration. It is a watered-down version of mass treatment wounds considering 10hp is the average for a 1st level cast of treatment wounds—15hp at 4th level, 20hp at 5th, etc.
Ideas? I play clerics a whole lot but have only recently gotten on board the Assist train.

5e Blessed healer and Mass Healing Word 5e   Play Now
You will get the Healing for your personality just once with each throw of Mass Healing Word. The wording in 5e is quite explicit:
When you throw a 1st degree or more significant spell, which restores hit points into a monster other than you, you regain hit points equal to 2 + the spell’s level.
What are the 12 best healing spells in dnd 5e?
The list of spells that can cure is very narrow. In reality, I hardly had enough to create this record! However, I rated these 12 spells together with all the following criteria in mind:
That not only contains how many hit points you return but also the number of goals you may choose to heal with this. If two spells can heal for 1d8; however, one has six goals, it is a pretty clear winner usually.
Spells that spend higher spell slots means that you’re generally losing out on other, more significant spells. If you’re able only to throw a single 8th level spell every day, is this recovery charm worth it versus a weaker spell in a higher slot?
Some recovery charms grant additional bonuses, such as treating diseases, regenerating limbs, or giving temporary hit points. All of these factors matter when some spells only heal.
12 best dnd Healing spells:
Healing Word
Everybody's very first healing charm! As a 1st level spell, it won’t be winning any awards anytime soon. However, it does its job nicely. 1d4 plus your Spellcasting Modifier adds another d4 of Healing. Every single spell slot beyond the 1st is fairly on-par for most charms this early in the match. It gets outclassed as the character grows into more advanced magic.
Mass Healing Word 5e
Source: Player’s Handbook, p.258. One of the first party-wide Healing spells available to Clerics (and only Clerics), Volume Recovery Word doesn’t offer much with only 1d4+ Spellcasting Modifier for up to six goals. And as a 3rd level spell, it’s a pretty hard sell to utilize this over other choices at this level.
Healing Spirit 5e
Source: Xanathar’s Guide to Everything p. 157. A fantastic addition from Xanathar, Healing Spirit, lets you make a tiny moving spirit that heals creatures that pass through it. Or start their turn in precisely the same spot as it for 1d6. It is a flexible spell that lasts for a full moment with concentration. And since it’s a bonus action, you can still cast a cantrip as your routine actions. If you’ve got a Druid or Ranger in your party, it will not hurt to pick up this spell when available.
Cure Wounds 5e
Source: Player’s Handbook, p.230.Remember that time we dissed Healing Word? Cure Wounds is a spell of the same level and may double the Healing (1d8 vs. 1d4). Cure
Wounds 5e’ downside is a Touch spell, meaning the caster can’t be quite distant from his celebration. That is not too terrible of a drawback, though, since this spell is available to beefier courses, for example, Paladins, Rangers, and Druids, who are more inclined to be on the front line. That allows your Bards and Clerics to hang back and save their charm slots for more excellent choices.
Prayer of Healing 5e
Source: Player’s Handbook, p.267.Prayer of Healing is one of the first “big” healing spells. Clerics have access to, as another level spell. It is a pretty great heal (out of combat that’s ) that allows you to cure up to six targets for 2d8+your modifier. Plus, as you spend spell slots over the 2nd level, you get an additional d8, allowing the charms to scale pretty well into the subsequent levels. One of the big draws against it’s the very long cast time. Ten minutes makes it unusable in combat.
Aura of Vitality 5e
Source: Player’s Handbook, p. 216. This little number provides two of the crucial criteria for a good healing spell: Range, as well as foliage. Any target within 30 feet can find a 2d6 heal as a bonus action, which means a lot since this is a Paladin-only spell. You may have to keep concentration for the duration of the spell (which, let’s be fair, should be relatively straightforward as a Paladin). However, the flexibility and power of the spell are pretty excellent.
Hero’s Feast 5e
Another weird spell is a healing spell, Hero’s Feast. It allows you to summon a making of delicious food for your party that takes an hour to complete. (twelve individuals signifies your DM is most likely yelling after every session). After that hour passes, all participants get 2d10 temporary hit points and heal the same quantity. Hero’s Feast 5e is not a spell you will ever cast in combat (it takes ten minutes to throw it, not to mention that the hour-long Feast). Nonetheless, it offers a beautiful enthusiast to your party before some huge dramatic fight.
 Vampiric Touch 5e
A draining lifestyle does heal you. So this charm makes a list on technicality! Once you connect with this, you get to cope with 3d6 damage and cure for half that sum. Plus, you can make this action over and above for a full minute if it’s possible to maintain concentration in the melee range. The biggest drawback of the Vampiric touch 5e spell is that the range.
Power Word Heal 5e
Source: Player’s Handbook, p. 266. The most powerful healing spell that D&D offers, Power Word Heal, enables you to heal a target for maximum hit points. And of course, it also removes charmed, frightened, paralyzed, or stunned conditions from the target. So it is pretty rare that this charm helps in any campaign.
Heal 5e
A single target has to cure 70 hit points with no rolls required, only the 6th level spell slot invested in throwing it. As a bonus, it also ends blindness, deafness, and any diseases affecting the goal. It is hard to argue with results like these.
Mass Cure Wounds 5e
The midfield alternative for curing your party, Volume Heal Wounds, provides a reasonably good cure (3d8+ Spellcasting Modifier) for up to six goals, with no casting time! It’s an excellent spell for Bards, Clerics, and Druids that can cast 5th level spells. No casting period, no expensive components, a relatively wide range, and a moderate heel make this among the most significant Healing spells out there.
Regenerate 5e
Source: Player’s Handbook, p.271.In my opinion, the most potent healing spell available in 5th Edition needs to be this one. Regenerate not only enables you to cure for 4d8+15. But the goal also regrows or re-attaches any limbs which were severed (not counting heads, that is an entirely different spell).
On top of this sizable up-front heal, the goal also heals ten hit points every minute. It is for an hour-long duration, for another 60 points healed on top of the initial roll. Bards, Clerics, and Druids have access to this Seventh-degree spell, so any party should get this in time.  Play Now
What is Mass Heal 5e?
A flood of Repairing energy flows from you into hurt creatures around you. You reestablish up to 700 Strike Points, divided as you choose among any number of animals you can see within range. Creatures healed by this spell will also be cured of all Diseases and some other Effect, making them Blinded or Deafened. This charm has no Effect on Undead or Constructs.
What are the attributes of Mass Heal 5e?
The attributes of 5e Mass heal are as follows:
9 TH evocation
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: 60 feet
Components: V S
Duration: Instantaneous
Classes: Cleric
A flood of healing energy flows out of you into hurt creatures around you. The creature healed by this spell gets cured of all diseases and any impact that makes them blinded or deafened.
What is Scroll of Mass Healing Word 5e?
Detect Magic Aura
When you see a magical thing while the Detect Magic spell is active, you’ll see certain auras based on the colleges of magic at work from the merchandise. To get a “Scroll of Mass Healing Word 5e,” auras include:

Aura of Vitality 5e vs. Mass Healing Word 5e
Mass Healing Word is just better than Healing Word if more than 1 PC is down concurrently. That is pretty dire. Depending on your DM and the experience, it’s probably more likely one of those PCs is lifeless. It seems like you need to have run away two rounds ago.
Multiple party members moving down at the same round is rare. Aov has far more curative power over time than MHW (you’re able to keep bonus action-ing it on individuals after the battle ends).
I’d go Aura of Vitality 100% every time.
Cure Wounds is also a bard spell, so if you’ve got that and two go down precisely the same round, you could always Heal Wounds one and AoV another. You’ll lose your principal actions, unlike MHW, however, in that rare situation. It’s well worth it, and also, for the other 99% of adventuring, AoV will give you a lot more bang for your healing buck.

so uuh whats up with dabi’s scars? a meta
i cant be stopped. i should be doing my coursework, and instead im breaking this shit down.
warning for frank discussion of burn trauma, injury and scars.
what are dabi’s scars? what caused them?
most likely, based on his quirk and theorized childhood (as endeavor’s son), they’re burn scars. burn scars can be broken up into a couple of categories.
superficial (first degree): extends into the epidermis; red without blisters; dry and painful; heals well [1]
superficial partial thickness (second degree): extends into superficial dermis; redness with clear blister; moist and very painful; heals well with chances of local infection [1]
deep partial thickness (second degree): extends into deep dermis; yellow or white, may or may not blister; fairly dry and causes feelings of pressure and discomfort; causes scarring and contracture [1, 2]
full thickness (third degree): extends through entire dermis; stiff and white brown; leathery and painless; causes scarring and contracture; amputation recommended [1, 2]
fourth degree: extends through entire skin and into underlying muscle, fat and bone; black and sometimes sloughing off; dry and painless; causes severe impairment and death; amputation recommended [1]
an issue with identifying which burn type dabi has is that we’ve never seen his scars in the initial stages. i can pretty confidently say that it’s not first or second degree burns based on how his scars look. knowing this, we can go into a little more detail concerning full thickness and fourth degree burns.
how are these burns treated/how do they heal?
generally the body has a severe inflammatory response to these burns, which causes a loss of fluids that can be fatal. it can damage the heart, lungs, blood vessels, kidneys, and other organ systems, and trigger a drop in blood pressure that results in shock [3].
fluid can also become trapped in the body during this response, and cause an edema (localized swelling). an edema, shock, or another response can block oxygen from reaching certain organs, and cause damage/failure. due to the surface area of a burn and the skin damaged, infections of the burn itself is a major concern, as well as infection of organs/organs systems, as the entire immune system is weakened [3].
sometimes superficial partial thickness burns will scar, but beyond that all burns result in scarring. with full thickness and fourth degree burns, the burned tissue will only scar. tissue grafts, excision and amputation are the only long term treatment [1, 2].
keeping the area of the burn sterile is generally the primary concern of doctors. they used sterile dressings and topical antibiotics. treatment beyond that is skewed depending on the severity of the burn. third and fourth degree burns require lots of IV fluids to prevent dehydration and shock and maintain blood pressure. severe and large burns are treated by removing the burned flesh and using skin grafts. severely burned limbs may be amputated [3].
how do these burns scar?
uuh, not well. with third and fourth degree burns, there is tissue damage and loss all the way through the skin and to the bone, sometimes. it’s not going to heal back; the body really can only scar over. skin grafts could be used to cover the scarring and promote some healing [4].
if the scar is a circumferential burn (where a full thickness burn affects the entire circumference of a digit, extremity, or even the torso) an emergency surgery called an escharotomy will be performed (an incision will be made through the scar tissue and into the tissue below) [5].
an escharotomy will be done to treat/prevent problems with circulation in the affected tissue, ventilation, and prevent possible edemas. this also enables greater movement in the scar tissue and surrounding tissue [5].
what problems, beyond scarring, do burns cause?
more like what problems don’t they cause. beyond just the burn that destroys tissue and nerves, they increase the chances of infection in the burned area as well as other organs/organ systems because the immune system is weakened [3].
severe burn scars can lead to hypovolemic and hypothermic shock as well. the skin regulates fluid and heat loss, and scars inhibit and interfere with this function. this can lead to decreased blood volume and the loss/retention of too much body heat [6, 7].
from the initial cause of the burn, cortisol (the “panic” hormone) and other neurotransmitters can cause a hypermetabolic state, associated with increased blood being processed by the heart, a faster metabolism, a fast heart rate, and poor immune function, which can laster for literal years after the incident [6].
so how does this relate to dabi? why did i make you read all of this kind of gross shit?
going by the outward appearance, i’m gonna say most of dabi’s scars are probably third degree and deep partial thickness (deep second degree). he’s still alive, for one thing, and is able to move, so that rules out fourth degree.
dabi’s scars probably, for the most part, have reduced his sense of feeling/touch to next to nothing. the only thing that registers is probably deep pressure and even that is iffy. the edges of the scars may be extra sensitive and itchy because the scarring is less there, and therefore the nerves are less damaged.
dabi is shown to be thin pushing on gaunt. he’s probably constantly hungry and tired, from his body trying to heal and survive with so much fucked up stuff going on. he probably has a hard time eating and swallowing because of the scars around his mouth/jaw and neck. if he’s in a hypermetabolic state, that’ll be made worse. stomach ulcers and gastrointestinal issues, due to altered blood flow/fluid loss at the instance/aftermath of burns, may make it hard for him to digest/keep food down.
chances are, dabi is often sick and/or fighting off infections. underneath his scars, as we’ve seen, is open muscle and tissue. pneumonia, localized infections, UTIs and respiratory infections are all problems he could have to deal with frequently. he’s literally walking around with a bunch of open wounds and a weak immune system. what a dumbass.
the staples on his face most likely don’t hold his burnt skin down. the burns are probably anchored to the tissue below- most likely, it’s to keep the open injuries from opening more and exposing the muscle/tissue/nerves under there. we’ve also seen that it allows ventilation for his quirk.
i’m also calling poor blood flow because of the damage to the tissue, so dabi might have nerve damage/poor feeling in his hands/fingers and feet because of the scarring. the hypermetabolic state referenced before can lead to decreased bone density and loss of muscle mass.
aside from physical issues, burns can lead to problems like PTSD, body image problems, and other psychological issues including suicide [8]. dabi probably has a whole host of issues.
and thats it my lads!
im so sorry i made you read all of that. it really is....uuuh a lot. hope this helps with any fics/meta/art people wanna do of dabi.

Baby is good yeshh. How about hc for r.o.b. le tiny robot. R.o.b. prob did lots of things on that island of ancients before joining the roster, this might be interesting :D
Oh yesh, Pre-subspace ROB is total babby~
Unlike the other fighters who come from other worlds, R.O.B. was born in the Smash universe. He was built by Master Hand but was programmed with a false memory. Instead he believes that he was built by a human scientist named Professor Hector. He had served has Hector’s lab assistant, learning the basics of robotics and programming until Hector mysteriously disappeared leaving R.O.B. by himself in “his” lab. In reality R.O.B. was left on the Isle by Master Hand shortly after his creation. He did this so that R.O.B. would not feel like he should get special privileges just because he was made by the ruler of the World.
As the only intelligent life form on the Isle, R.O.B. started to grow lonely and began making more robots in his own image. Because his knowledge on robotics is actually fairly limited, the first R.O.Bs were very primitive and were programmed with a learning algorithm which would allow them to grow more intelligent over time. During this time, he also greatly expanded the lab into being the near fortress it was in the Subspace emissary.
Although all R.O.Bs are referred to as a serial number through their internal language (Ex: SEN-103, BLA-266, etc), the Master R.O.B. initially gave them all “normal” names upon their activation. This stopped once R.O.Bs started being produced en mass for the army.
R.O.B. (as with all the other fighters) knows that he is immortal (outside of being reverted to a trophy), but doesn’t understand why the other R.O.Bs do not share this trait. As a result, he forbade them from doing especially dangerous work and handled most expeditions off the isle on his own.
R.O.B. has a natural sense of curiosity and was very interested in cataloging everything he and his scouts came across. R.O.B. especially found a great interest in plants and animals and went through great lengths to get a garden built and stabilized on the Isle. They had even established a zoo on the mainland, but both have since been lost. (In the present day, R.O.B. still keeps gardening as a hobby. He has many small plants in his home).
Inversely, despite being a robot and having knowledge about it, R.O.B. doesn’t actually have much interest in technology, only really using it as a means to expand his knowledge on biology and botany.
For a long time, the R.O.Bs were the only ones living on the land since fighters only visit from their worlds during special occasions, so the R.OB.s actually established many facilities on the mainland before becoming confined to the isle.
He considered the R.O.Bs to be his only family, so he put their needs before all else.

About For Freedoms:
Founded in 2016 by artists Hank Willis Thomas and Eric Gottesman, For Freedoms is a platform for creative civic engagement, discourse, and direct action. Inspired by American artist Norman Rockwell’s paintings of Franklin D. Roosevelt’s Four Freedoms (1941)—freedom of speech, freedom of worship, freedom from want, and freedom from fear—For Freedoms’ exhibitions, installations, and public programs use art to deepen public discussions on civic issues and core values, and to advocate for equality, dialogue, and civic participation. As a nexus between art, politics, commerce, and education, For Freedoms aims to inject anti-partisan, critical thinking that fine art can encourage into the political and cultural landscape.
50 State Initiative:
The 50 State Initiative was the largest creative collaboration in United States history. For Freedoms launched the non-partisan, nationwide campaign in June 2018, and invited artists, cultural and academic institutions, and social justice organizations to experiment with new forms of creative civic engagement in the months leading up to the midterm elections. Together, we examined our collective freedoms and mapped out the artistic infrastructure of our country through hundreds of concurrent programs, including town halls, exhibitions, lawn signs, and billboards. The 50 State Initiative resulted in 744 activations as well as a network of 715 artists, 266 arts institutions, and civic leaders in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and Washington, D.C.

Navigating the Ocean of Crowdsourcing and Social Capital in a Crisis
Back in 2006, Jeff Howe wrote a story about some outsourced images and used the term crowdsourcing to describe how organisations used the internet to source goods and services. Crowdsourcing is described by Wilson, Bhakoo and Samson as an organisation taking a task and outsourcing it to a network of providers, usually large crowds (2018, pp.1467-1468). Howe revisits his initial article in 2013 to demonstrate the success story of Japan’s Muji and describe an oncoming trend, as big jobs are converted to many smaller ones to be crowdsourced.
Hossain & Kauranen (2015, pp.2-3) explain well-known projects of the past have used crowdsourcing principles. An example of this was the Longitude Prize during the eighteenth century, with the realisation of the advantage of successful and accurate navigation of the oceans.
Tumblr media
Not all modern examples are a roaring success, though. Cappuccino flavoured chips by Frito Lay are a pretty good example of the crowd taking the Michael.
Crowdsourcing in the 21st century generates game-changing platforms like GE’s Fuse, which has been used to pool innovations that tackle technical problems like data collection from machinery around the world (Kloberdanz 2017). Equally impressive is the Ushahidi platform, which has become an acclaimed platform helping people gain a voice or assistance(Ford 2012, pp.34-35). During the 2011 Christchurch earthquake, volunteers in New Zealand and abroad used Ushahidi to help with information on road conditions, supplies and services in conjunction with Twitter hashtags. #eqnz or #helpme (McMurren, Verhulst & Young 2016, pp.7-8).
youtube
In an article for the Australian Journal of Emergency Management, the potential for refining crowdsourcing and microtasking in emergency management was explored. Previous successes utilising mobile telephony and social media to better harness crowdsourced information from the public were explained. However, the authors expressed the need of good digital citizenship in the fair treatment of paid overseas contributors (Poblet, Fitzpatrick & Chhetri 2017, pp.48-52).
Having previously been an active member of the SES for many years, I’ve seen the importance of trust and community resilience during challenging times when people fear they’ve lost everything. Tapping and combining the social capital existing as a result of social media and emergency preparedness can reverse some of the capital lost through technology use and discussed here.
An article regarding Victoria’s Community Fireguard showed how the program developed a sense of preparedness and strong social bonds within communities (MacDougall, Gibbs & Clarke 2014, p.264). Social capital developed within programs where the community works together using social media helps to build upon bonding and bridging types of social capital (Siapera 2012, pp.203-204).
Crowdsourcing, whether it be paid assistance or free, is a brand new ocean for organisations to navigate and seek advantage. It has applications across business and essential services, including emergency services. In some instances, it can contribute to the trust and resilience within communities, whether large or small, real world or digital.
Have you used crowdsourcing before?

Revolut revenue grew by 57% in 2020
Fintech startup Revolut has filed some financial results and is sharing details with the press. In 2020, the company reported $361 million in revenue (£261 million) — that’s a 57% increase compared to 2019 revenue of $229 million (£166 million).
Interestingly, those revenue figures have been adjusted to include fair value gains on cryptocurrency assets — it means that Revolut holds some crypto assets on its balance sheet. Revolut made $54 million (£39 million) in fair value gains on cryptocurrency assets.
Gross profit reached $170 million (£123 million) last year. At the same time, the company still reports operating losses. In particular, Q1 2020 was a particularly bad quarter with $76 million (£55 million) in adjusted operating loss.
In 2020, total non-adjusted operating loss reached $277 million (£200.6 million). Like many tech companies, administrative expenses are responsible for this loss. With a staff of 2,200 people, the company spent $367 million (£266 million) on administrative costs alone. But things seem to be improving as you can see:
These trends aren’t that surprising as I reported that fintech startups spent most of 2020 focusing on profitability and improving their margins. At the end 2020, Revolut had 14.5 million personal customers and 500,000 companies using Revolut Business.
Fintech startups are increasingly focusing on profitability
“As the extraordinary circumstances of 2020 drove the trend towards digital financial management we continued to innovate for customers to make their financial lives easier and accelerate daily use. We launched 24 new retail and business products, expanded into the US, Japan and Australia and launched banking services in Lithuania, all while significantly improving our profitability,” founder and CEO Nikolay Storonsky said in a statement. “We began 2021 with a more resilient and productive business that will enhance our trajectory towards rapid growth.”
When you compare Q1 2020 to Q1 2021, things are radically different for the fintech company. Revenue increased by 130% year-over-year and gross profit grew by 300% between Q1 2020 and Q1 2021.
Revolut has been launching a ton of products to diversify its sources of revenue. It is increasingly becoming a financial super app with current accounts, debit cards, trading services, insurance products, premium subscriptions, cryptocurrency trading and more.
Interestingly, interchange revenue from card transactions represents a good chunk of the company’s revenue. In 2020, cards and interchange generated $131 million (£95 million) in revenue. Every time a Revolut customer makes a card purchase, the card scheme (Visa or Mastercard) gives back some fees to Revolut. It’s an incredibly small percentage-based fee, but it can add up when you generate millions of purchases.
Foreign exchange and wealth generated $111 million (£80 million) in revenue. That’s another big one. And finally, subscriptions, such as Revolut Plus, Revolut Premium and Revolut Metal, accounted for $104 million (£75 million) in revenue.
Those are three strong pillars that all contribute to the company’s bottom line. They all represent a bit less or a bit more than a third of the company’s overall revenue.
While the company has expanded aggressively over the years, the U.K. is still by far its biggest market. In 2020, 88.4% of the company’s (non-adjusted) revenue was related to its activities in the U.K. The European Economic Area without the U.K. represented 10.2% of revenue. The U.S., Japan, Australia and other markets were nearly negligible.
Revolut has also raised a mega round of funding in 2020 — a $500 million Series D round that was extended to $580 million in total. I wouldn’t be surprised if the company launches an initial public offering within the next 12 months.

via Politics – FiveThirtyEight
Have you heard the one about two Republicans and 5,000 Democrats who walk into a primary election? It’s not much of a joke to Democrats. In at least three U.S. House primaries in California on Tuesday, Democrats are in real danger of not advancing a candidate to the November general at all, thanks to the Golden State’s unusual “jungle primary” rules. That’s inspired panic among liberals and frantic — often counterintuitive — efforts to game the system. But there’s a greater chance than people realize that the jungle primary system will burn Republicans as well. In fact, if the GOP is locked out of the two biggest races on the ballot this year — for U.S. Senate and governor — the jungle primary could hurt them a lot more than it does Democrats.
Jungle primaries can be confusing even to locals, so let’s start with a refresher. In California,1 all candidates regardless of party run on the same ballot in the June primary. The top two vote-getters (again, regardless of party) advance to a head-to-head election in November. When this system went into effect in 2012, moderates were supposed to benefit because candidates would have to appeal to the whole electorate rather than just their partisan base. But three elections later, Californians disagree on whether it has succeeded.
What it has done is occasionally let two candidates of the same party slip through to the general election, which critics say deprives voters of a true choice in November.2 Let’s say you have a district that’s perfectly split — 50-50 — between Democratic and Republican voters, but 10 Democratic candidates run for the seat compared with only two Republicans. The two Republicans might get 25 percent of the vote apiece, while the Democrats each receive 5 percent. That would advance the two Republicans to the general election, locking up that district for the GOP.
That’s exactly what Democrats fear will happen in California’s 39th, 48th and 49th congressional districts — and perhaps in the 10th and 50th districts as well. Those districts’ swing status attracted a large number of credible challengers in what has been a great recruiting year for Democrats, but that high Democratic enthusiasm could backfire as a result of the jungle primary.

The most clear and present danger for Team Blue seems to be in the 48th District. Rep. Dana Rohrabacher is a magnet for controversy, from his friendliness and contacts with Russia to his belief that homeowners should be able to refuse to sell their houses to gay people. It’s made him a Democratic target in this light red seat (R+4 going by FiveThirtyEight’s partisan lean),3 and even some fellow Republicans are fed up. Former Rohrabacher protégé Scott Baugh is running against his old mentor, providing a viable alternative to buttoned-down Orange County Republicans who may disapprove of the Trumpish incumbent.4 That’s motivated national Democrats to campaign hard against Baugh to secure a top-two finish for one of their eight candidates on the ballot. In an effort to improve that terrible math, three of those Democrats have withdrawn from consideration, and the party is handing out pamphlets reminding voters not to pick their names.
Two major Democratic candidates remain: Stem-cell researcher Hans Keirstead won the California Democratic Party’s endorsement, but the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has sided with entrepreneur Harley Rouda. The DCCC’s move was intended to consolidate support around Rouda, but it may have only formalized the party’s schism. Why the preference? The DCCC no doubt appreciates Rouda’s ability to self-fund and was reportedly scared off by unsubstantiated allegations of Keirstead sleeping with female graduate students and punching one of his female students in the face. The two candidates share a solidly progressive platform, but Rouda may also hold more crossover appeal as a Hillary Clinton-supporting former Republican (like many voters in the district).
But in California’s two open House seats, both parties are at risk of a top-two lockout. In the 39th District (D+3), no fewer than four Democrats and three Republicans have realistic shots at a place on the November ballot. Former state Assemblywoman Young Kim, whom outgoing Rep. Ed Royce has endorsed, is considered the GOP front-runner, but that may be an overly hasty assumption. Two internal polls of the race put Kim in a virtual tie with fellow Republicans Bob Huff, a former state Senate minority leader, and Orange County Supervisor Shawn Nelson.
In turn, just a few points away sit the race’s two independently wealthy Democrats, who have far outspent the rest of the field. Gil Cisneros, a Navy veteran who won a $266 million lottery jackpot in 2010, has lent his campaign $3.5 million, while insurance executive Andy Thorburn has invested “only” $2.8 million. Worried that their high-dollar war of words was just pushing both of them down in the polls, Democratic leadership brokered a cease-fire between them last month. The DCCC initially campaigned here only to drag down Huff and Nelson (apparently ceding one runoff slot to Kim) but has lately started airing ads supporting Cisneros — despite a Democratic legislative candidate’s accusations that he made inappropriate sexual advances toward her. Finally, two other Democrats, Emily’s List-backed pediatrician Mai Khanh Tran and former Obama administration appointee Sam Jammal, could also be factors in the race. The bottom line is that any of the top seven candidates — and therefore any combination of parties — could finish in the top two.
And in California’s 49th District (D+1), national Republicans have been at least as active in trying to manipulate the field as national Democrats have been. The American Future Fund has spent more than $1 million propping up state Board of Equalization member Diane Harkey and Assemblyman Rocky Chávez and fending off a third GOP candidate, San Diego County Supervisor Kristin Gaspar. Meanwhile, the DCCC has spent $1.7 million against Chávez (who is the most moderate Republican and probably the most electable) without picking sides among the Democratic contestants. The strategies seem like they’ve been effective: According to a SurveyUSA poll taken at the end of May, Harkey led the race with 24 percent, followed by Democrats Doug Applegate and Sara Jacobs with 11 percent, Democrat Mike Levin with 10 percent and Chávez (who actually led in SurveyUSA’s previous poll of the race) with 8 percent.
But polls of U.S. House races and primaries are notoriously error-prone, and there’s been plenty of upheaval among the Democrats. Applegate, a retired Marine colonel, was Democrats’ November candidate for this seat in 2016 but has been dogged by 14-year-old allegations that he stalked and threatened his ex-wife, although she has defended and endorsed him in 2018. Meanwhile, Jacobs, whose grandfather is the billionaire co-founder of Qualcomm, has benefited from Emily’s List’s largest-ever independent-expenditure campaign ($2.3 million), but the 29-year-old has been dinged for exaggerating her work experience. And the race’s leading fundraiser is a fourth Democrat, real estate investor Paul Kerr.
In two final districts with vulnerable GOP incumbents, it’s also possible (but less likely) that either party will be shut out of the top two. In the heavily Latino 10th District (D+1), Rep. Jeff Denham has cultivated a moderate reputation, especially on immigration. His lone Republican challenger, Ted Howze, hopes to rally the district’s hard-core conservatives with cries of “amnesty.” Among Democrats, venture capitalist Josh Harder has raised a strong $1.5 million, beekeeper Michael Eggman has plenty of name recognition from his failed 2014 and 2016 campaigns, and former Riverbank Mayor Virginia Madueño enjoys the support of Emily’s List.
Finally, the R+19 50th District wouldn’t be competitive under normal circumstances, but Rep. Duncan Hunter is under FBI investigation for personal use of campaign funds. Democrats Ammar Campa-Najjar and Josh Butner have gone nuclear on each other, potentially paving the way for Republicans Bill Wells or Shamus Sayed to finish second to Hunter. Wells is mayor of El Cajon, a city of more than 100,000 people on the district’s western edge, but businessman Sayed has raised five times as much money. In mid-May, a SurveyUSA poll found all the non-Hunter candidates within the margin of error of one another.
But here’s the thing: If Democrats (or Republicans) miss out on the general election in any of those races, the most either party could lose is one House seat.5 That’s bad, of course, but the damage would be limited. Not so, however, if a party is locked out of the general election in a high-profile statewide race. Unfortunately for conservatives, it’s Republicans who are likely to miss out in November on California’s U.S. Senate race and possibly also the gubernatorial election. And that could have bigger consequences than just one race.
As FiveThirtyEight’s Clare Malone writes, California’s general election for the U.S. Senate is likely to come down to two Democrats representing two different visions for the party: more moderate Sen. Dianne Feinstein and progressive upstart Kevin de León, the former state Senate president. Even worse, Republicans could also be shut out of California’s other major statewide race this year: governor. Everyone else is basically just trying to make the runoff with Democratic Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom, who has raised the incredible sum of $36 million. Not to be outdone, former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa has raised $34 million and also gotten a $20 million assist from a pro-charter-schools outside group. State Treasurer John Chiang has raised “only” $14 million and hopes to win over Democrats turned off by Newsom’s and Villaraigosa’s past scandals.
Meanwhile, President Trump has urged Republicans via tweet to consolidate behind businessman John Cox instead of state Assemblyman Travis Allen. Newsom has also subtly tried to lift Cox in an effort to face a Republican in the fall. The trend in polling (which, weirdly for this primary season, has been ample) suggests these developments may have made a difference, but Cox — and the GOP — could easily still lose that second runoff spot.
Latest polls of the California governor’s race

Both California’s senatorial and gubernatorial races were always going to be safely Democratic in this D+26 state, so it may seem like no big deal if Republicans fail to advance in them. It’s even happened before: Democrats Kamala Harris and Loretta Sanchez were the top two vote-getters in the 2016 Senate primary before facing off in the general election. But this year, without a presidential race on the ballot, the races for Senate and governor matter more than just for their own sake. As the two races headlining California’s 2018 ballot, they have the power to drive turnout across this state of 40 million — and all 53 of its congressional races.
A Republican shutout at the top of the ticket could depress conservative turnout statewide, perhaps nudging districts where the Republican is currently favored, like the 4th and 21st, more toward the toss-up column. That could damage the party’s chances in a dozen swing districts, not just in one, like a shutout in an individual House race would. In 2014, poor turnout in “orphan states” — those without competitive races for governor or Senate — cost Democrats House seats that they didn’t even know were in danger. The biggest consequence of the jungle primary could be that California becomes 2018’s version of an orphan state — for Republicans.
