This fanfic (‘Brothers By Blood’), but I’ve thought about how to really make it canon. (Or at least in my head anyways.) With a few tweaks to the actual fanfiction.

Family tree:

Wu has a wife in this. Her name is Carolin. The four main ninja (Zane, Cole, Kai, and Jay) are the sons of these two, with Zane being the oldest, Cole and Kai being twins (I headcanon Cole to be the older by 8 minutes), and Jay as the youngest of the four.

Ray, originally just a friend of Carolin’s in the fic, was changed to being her younger brother in my head, making him the uncle of the four main ninja, while also making his daughter, Nya, the cousin of the Ninja. (From their mother’s side.)

Garmadon is Wu’s brother, making Lloyd the cousin of the Ninja as well. (From their father’s side.) Which makes Garmadon the Ninjas’ uncle.

It is only those 6 children-wise (No Crystal or Owen) in my headcanon.

You’ll have to read the fic to the end (SPOILERS)

but when you do, Carolin uses a spell that actually, let’s say, “resets” Ninjago in order to save her children’s lives. Unfortunately, it cost her her own life, killing her. A life to save a life. (From now on, it’s just me adding on with my headcanons since the fic ends with Carolin sacrificing herself.)

Carolin, from then on, is only really remembered by Wu and a select few in this ‘reset-ed’ reality. (Somehow, Carolin was able to maneuver that to be.) (Unfortunately, the select few would become a lot of people to everyone as a spell can never really be that full-proof. Plus, she reset everything in Ninjago with the spell. Something had to give.)

From then on, Wu would set out to find his sons in the world Carolin reset to save their family.

The memories would only be restored by this family as they grew. Wu just needed to find them and figure out just how exactly to restore them.

He would find his eldest son turned into a robot, (mostly) by Dr Julien. Once an old friend to Wu and Carolin, he tried his best to do well by them and their family, but sometimes we all think differently when we think of ‘the best’ for others. He wanted to protect Zane from emotional hurt, so he took apart most of his humanity and sliced it in half. Something the soon-to-be-other Ninja would despise him for. He would always claim to have the best in mind for Zane though. And maybe he did. But the Ninja would soon realize they could never truly forgive him for that. (While he looks like a robot, there still is humanity left in Zane no one can take away. Although turned half-robot half-human, the soon-to-remember Ninja would love him.)

Wu would then find his second-eldest soon in the care of Lilly. Lilly, former elemental master of earth, originally a dear friend to Carolin in the fic, was changed to being her baby sister in my headcanon. She gave her powers to Cole, due to this thing I made up being an elemental master can give their power to a potential future elemental master when they’re (the former elemental master) is old enough and mentally ready to pass said powers on. Both Lilly and Ray have done this for Cole and Kai.

Both her and Ray are special cases actually. While her spell was completing itself, Carolin somehow managed to step into space and time and communicate with her baby siblings. She asked them to take care of her babies as she had to separate the twins in their care.

She gifted Cole to the youngest sister (making Lilly Cole and Kai’s aunt) and gifted Kai to the middle sibling (making Ray Kai and Cole’s uncle). They both promised to look after her boys, wanting to do right by their older sister.

Carolin left Kai with Ray, Maya, and Nya because she knew he was going to be a good brother to Nya. She’s seen it with her own eyes. As they grew older and inevitably learned the truth of their now two childhoods combined, they’d learned that they were never siblings, but cousins. Fortunately for all of them, the ninja would learn that Nya and Lloyd are still family and would ultimately call/treat them like siblings anyway. Because that’s exactly what they did when Carolin was here. (Once they remember, of course.)

And last, but not least, Jay would ultimately be left at a scrap yard, much to Carolin’s lasting disappointment. She had gifted Jay to a close friend of hers, the former Lightning elemental. But due to some reason (maybe she couldn’t handle the stress of it all?? Maybe something deeper was going on?), she left Jay and possibly Carolin and her family behind for someone else to get involved with: Ed and Edna Walker. While they were not asked to, they saw little Jay on their doorstep and immediately took him in, and for that, Carolin will always bless them from whatever space heaven there is.

I’m not too sure on Lloyd rn. I just know he’s found later too.

On the concept of ‘Found family’, I’d like to think in this universe, it’s Carolin and her dedication to protect her family, even at the point of RESETTING THE ENTIRETY OF NINJAGO that sort of paved the path for the soon-to-be-ninja, as they walked their own ways to find each other and their memories.

Once they get their memories back, Carolin will come up in conversations; memories of when they were all in a previous un-reseted Ninjago. The times where they would be doing the next craziest thing or simply telling Christmas stories in the comfort of their home. Memories they’re gonna have to carry alone in this new Ninjago… together.

(Well, they’re not alone. Ninjago has this trend where something that’s claimed to only be known by only a few actually is known/gets to be known by almost everybody, so Ima stick with that trend because it’s actually kinda funny 😂

Okay but here me out-

It's pretty much agreed on that all the Ninja more or less grew up in different cultures right?

SO like what if they all refer to one thing as a different word, yet they all mean the same thing.

So like the living room for example- I feel like Cole would call it a parlor (bc of his dad) whilst Jay and Zane would prolly call it the main room, as they grew up in small homes. Kai and Nya would prolly call it the living room, as that's what their parents called it (maybe idk). While Lloyd would call it the common space/area (as at Darkley's, the common area was the only neutral truce-y kind of area)

There was a h u g e soda vs pop debate too, dw.

Jay says jimmy's instead of sprinkles, which annoyed the absolute fuck out of Kai for the longest time.

I desperately needed some fluff so I drew Jay with a Blitzle! Idk what it is about Blitzle specifically out of all the electric type Pokémon that screams Jay to me but it does and it’s very important to me that you know that

Ninjago au:

But almost all the ninja go through what Nya did in Seabound, in their respective seasons. When half a century spent connected to the forbidden scroll in the never realm left Zane mostly made of ice. When Jay and his powers were the only energy source strong enough to power a portal back from prime empire since Zane’s absence but he had to sacrifice his body in order to become fully digital. When the spinjitzu burst was never fully mastered by Lilly because it mean becoming stone and earth and still Cole made that sacrifice. When Nya returns to sea and whatever crystalised has in store for Lloyd. But Kai had his powers stolen before all of that, and they never returned. He had to learn to be a hero without those powers, and he was lucky enough to be a hero without the price of them too.

#Zane is a passing cool breeze an eternal winter presence residing in the Birchwood Forest #Jay is reduced to an electronic pulse once being able to manipulate code and show his face on screens yet is slowly forgetting who he was #Cole’s body has become frozen in place a Stone Mountain which erupts into a warrior made out of magma #who can defend others briefly but as soon as he stops moving he solidifies into stone #we’ve seen Nya #idk what to say about Lloyd bc his wildbrain focus season is crystalised and that ain’t out yet #but I assume we can link the Oni evil Garmadon destruction powers into this #I originally wrote a much longer more verbose post but like I thought it was ehhhh #I’ll post it if ppl are interested but it’s one of those things where you lose momentum bc the novelty wears off #I don’t think this is an original au I’m sure someone else has this somewhere #but it’s interesting how differently the seasons would have gone #lots of tags…#ninjago #lego ninjago #ninjago au #I don’t mean to make Kai the normal guy in two of my aus it just happened:/#maybe I’ll make art for it idk

SATBK NINJAGO AU NO ONE ASKED FOR

ahaha... satbk stands for sonic and the black knight btw it's a wii game and it has a whole grip on my brain so now i'm combining my two fixations bc i can..!

this will be a long post btw, designs n ideas are all mine and just an FYI.. It is heavily inspired by satbk but i will probably develop it as an au outside of the satbk story.. for my own entertainment idk. also idk much about the knights of the round table / king arthur story so don't expect anything related to them besides the names..? idk

anyways let's start!

Lloyd and Harumi (aka Sonic and Merlina)

Lloyd is a lost prince that gets summoned to this part of the world by Harumi who is a wizard and gets asked to help stop King Arthur (aka Garmadon) from being evil n wrecking shit ig.

Lloyd is chosen to help but he's not a knight! Harumi helps him find an ancient lost sword (aka Excalibur aka Morro in this au. hear me out. i'll explain it in more detail later.) and gets trained to become a knight with his now very annoying talking magic sword haha.

Also spoiler alert ig- Harumi is the real villain all along...! she manipulates lloyd into taking down Garmadon in order to get Excalibur's scabbard (which is in evil king arthur's possession which makes him evil + immortal) and wants to rule Camelot for herself to preserve the dying kingdom and thinks she'll be a better ruler to where Garmadon failed ig. still working out the motivations here.

Morro (aka Caliburn/Excalibur)

Morro in this au is Lloyd's talking sword. You don't see his ghost form.. at all..? i just mostly wanted to draw him in ghostly prince form lol. Basically he was the crown prince before Lloyd but then died a tragic death and became cursed to haunt a sword..? Yeah sure. So Lloyd picks him up and Morro talks and yeah they're travel buddies now.

Morro basically helps Lloyd become a better knight, but they still bicker and argue like siblings and it is funny.

Okay I'm gonna put a read more here now bc this is gettin long. The rest of the ninjas designs + stories are under the cut!

Knights of the Round Table

Kai (aka Lancelot)

Kai is Lancelot/Shadow in this au! He's the most loyal to KA / Garmadon in this au which is really funny lmao. As a knight Kai will follow any order given to him, he's one of the strongest knights in the realm and he's quite hotheaded to boot.

He encounters Lloyd first and they fight bc Lloyd is trying to stop Garmadon. Inexperienced as a fighter and a knight he doesn't exactly beat Kai but gets away after a technicality. Umm I like to think they meet a few more times over the course of Lloyd's journey, and maybe there's a part where Kai gets stuck with Lloyd and they have to work together.

Despite having differences of opinion on what it means to be a knight, Kai sort of sees Lloyd as a worthy rival... and lowkey younger brother!

Cole (aka Gawain)

Cole is the second knight Lloyd encounters and fights on his journey. After having more experience Lloyd does in fact beat him fair and square! But Cole as a knight takes chivalry and honor very seriously. After losing he feels so much shame but Lloyd snaps him out of it because there's more to being a knight than serving a king!

Zane (aka Percival)

The third knight of the round table that Lloyd encounters and also one of the toughest opponents Lloyd faces. Zane's fighting style is full of poise and grace and even though he doesn't appear to be as heavy hitting or brute forced as Kai or Cole he is most definitely strong! If not stronger for being able to conceal his power!

Lloyd is an experienced knight at this point, when he has Zane on the ropes part of the cliff they stand on falls off, nearly taking Zane with it. But Lloyd swoops in to save him like a true hero. After questioning Lloyd about why he saved him when he shouldn't have, Lloyd says it's because it's what he does! He saves people!

I wanna develop the knights more outside of the satbk encounters, so hehe. Keep ur eyes peeled for that!

Last but not least the other supportive characters in the story!

Jay (aka the Blacksmith)

yeah it would've been funny to make Kai the blacksmith but i think Jay works better here!

Jay is the town's local inventor / blacksmith and tthe best kind around! Lloyd goes to his shop to sharpen up Morro Sword and probably visits after every fight he has too lol. Jay doesn't mind at all and likes Lloyd's company! Especially because he will get any chance to show off his newest crazy invention for Lloyd!

Nya (aka Nimue Lady of the Lake)

Nya takes the place of Nimue who gives Lloyd three tests to become a true knight. I had to put her here because of water.. water symbolism n all that.

She's also very chill and hosts tea parties and invites Lloyd to celebrate after becoming a true knight! She's like an older sister to him too!

And.. yeah that's it i guess lol! I don't have more designs yet to show but I do have ideas and other stuff in mind! if u ever wanna ask about it my ask box is open! i wanna develop more of this funny little au haha

Which Ninjago characters would wash their hands after using the bathroom?

let me preface this by saying that I was thinking about the fact I don't trust shaking people's hands because idk if they actually wash them whenever they use the bathroom. and it led me here so

Nya — Absolutely would. Queen <3

Cole — In my heart I want to say yes. But he canonically pees in the pool. So,,, I will go with yes and I will choose to believe that both instances are mutually exclusive.

Kai — He used to but once he unlocked his elemental powers he just uses fire to sterilize the bacteria. Personally I don't find it gross because fire and heat can be very effective at sterilization

Lloyd — When he was younger he only used water with no soap but when he got older he does use soap. Character development <3

Jay — No, sorry :(

Zane — Doesn't need to use the bathroom anymore but when he did he did wash his hands because he understands the importance of basic hygiene

Garmadon — The evil influences every part of his life but he would refuse to let it prevent him from washing his hands after using the bathroom because that is NASTY

Arin — He was perfectly fine with wearing a mask that was dirty for who knows how long that literally made Lloyd gag,,, So who knows

I like to think he does though because outside of the mask thing he just seems like the type

So I know there's been a lot of discussion going around lately about Jay constantly having to hold back on his powers, but the question I've been wondering is do you think the others know? Do you think the other ninja know that Jay has been holding back the ENTIRE time? I feel like Wu would definitely know since he's probably the one who helped teach Jay how to have better control over his powers to where he doesn't accidentally kill someone. I also feel like maybe Zane and Pixal would be able to figure it out since they're nindroids and they may be able to like... scan Jay and figure out he's only using a small amount of his power. But I feel like Lloyd, Cole, Kai and Nya probably don't know, or if they do, they don't realize just HOW much Jay has to hold back. (Although maybe Lloyd does know since at the start of the series he could control all four elements of creation but idk)

Cause like... thinking back to season 4 for a specific example, when Jay and Cole had to fight each other, Jay was freaking out because he thought he didn't stand a chance against Cole, and then Neuro reveals that Cole also thinks Jay doesn't stand a chance. But like, if Cole knew just how powerful Jay is when he isn't holding back, then I don't think he would think that. Because even though Jay would never use his full power to fight Cole, no matter how mad he was at him, Cole might not see it that way and would probably have that tiny amount of doubt telling him, "Jay could literally kill you with his powers, you should be worried." And yeah, that's still pretty early on in the grand scheme of things and it's possible Jay could have said something to him at a later point, but idk.

And the other thing is that even if Jay did tell them, would they even fully believe him? Because Jay can be really dramatic about things so I feel like it isn't too unlikely to say that the other ninja would kinda downplay what Jay tells them. Cause if Jay said, "Hey guys, you don't understand just how strong my powers are. I constantly need to be holding back and it can be really exhausting sometimes." The other ninja might think of it like, "Yeah, we all need to hold back sometimes and all of our powers have some sort of strain on us, it's not a big deal"

Idk I just have a lot of thoughts about Jay and how strong he would be if he didn't need to hold back and all of the discussion that's been going around lately has just caused this to be on my mind constantly. It's definitely something that I want to explore more in my fics and aus and stuff because I find it super interesting to think about.

Hello my old heart by Bemmiecake : this is a long unfinished fic centered around Kai in the timeskip between seasons 3 and 4. I had to add it because it is definitely one of my favourites, this fic has made me emotional multiple times. It's heartbreaking how Kai has to go through his awful coping mechanisms as the Red Shogun and how he ends up finding a sliver of hope in the process. It also features a well built oc!

What gets out comes around by fruitcasket : this one is Cole centric but explores some contradictions of his character mostly with his relationship with Kai, how despite being a kind soul he acts as a bully towards him quite often.

Too familiar by Maplebreeze : Oneshot about Kai realizing him and Lloyd had similar experiences. Basically RG brothers fluff with some hurt.

Alike, alone by fruitcasket : Morro possesses Kai fic but it’s focused on Kai and Morro’s interactions and similarities rather than actions. It does some character analisis and dives into their mentality.

All of the work, none of the money by ADHDplusCartonnmakesCHAOS : Fic about the ninja learning about Kai and Nya’s childhood. There are many fics exploring this theme but this one is my favourite so far, talking about the subtler things like how costly pads are when you're already short on money to eat.

Fight by Maplebreeze : It describes perfectly how Kai would lose himself to violence (as one of his awful coping mechanisms) again and again and again, to distract his heart from all of those close to him he couldn't save (up until Possessed)

Guilt by Cherry_dynamite : On this fic we finally get closure with Lloyd addressing the fact that he did not see Kai's survival guilt back in the slither pit.

Boiling Point by Salty_Pickle_Bones : It is about Kai and the team being wrecked by Nya's death. It shows just how lost Kai has become, how he's going down the alcoholic rabbit hole again.

Off the deep end by Kiss_The_Cook : Set in the first season when Lloyd is a kid living with the ninja. Kai refuses to get close to Lloyd, despite Lloyd admiring him, because he knows he and Lloyd will get attached to each other and Kai thinks it would be very bad for the kid to do so. Brothers fluff (and some angst), I love how Kai’s mentality is portrayed and of course little Lloyd.

Aftermath by Sugarglider_s : Fluff opposite oneshot. Not really related to the rest but I love it and made a comic about it -> link here.

Feel free to recommend any other fic you like. We are especially interested in those that analyze the characterization of the ninja in depth, more specifically any other character besides Kai (pls let us know, especially ones about Jay, we’re struggling with writing him).

dragons rising s2 pt2 predictions 🔥🔥 (im 100% wrong about all of these)

OKAY SO. kai and bonzle r obviously trapped. gonna have some cute bonding moments with them and ALSO hopefully find out what was in kai's fear dream thingy????? whatever u call it. i assume the writers r planning to reveal it bc kai was looking absolutely SHOOK in the scene that followed like my man was not okay

ANYWAYS the ninja r obviously gonna focus on getting kai and bonzle back duh, but mainly nya (+ maybe wyldfire). i think at some point nya's gonna snap and go off on her own to find some answers and find out about the administration and look for clues there and WHO DOES SHE RUN INTO??????? take a wild guess

ANGSTY JAYA REUNION 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 would also love cole to be there for some added bruise angst

saw @nonbinarykai say that kai's gonna befriend one of the forbidden five and have them help them defeat ras when they get back which YES I LOVE 🔥

also really really REALLY want some more kai + nya content (they dont call me smithsibsceo for nothing) bc we were absolutely FED in pt 1 oh my god the FLASHBACKS??? i was bawling. im craving more and i feel like some more flashbacks could fit in nicely with nya's grief.

ALSO. ARIN AND SORA OH MY GODDDD. i feel like arin's new found confidence is gonna lead him to attempt more and more complicated stuff and sora's gonna try and keep up until it gets to the point where she has to come clean and arin gets REALLY ANGRY OH NOOOO OH NO. more angst

Lloyd Garmadon head canons!!

i was thinking of more head canons all day at school bc of asher- lol

-His favorite color is red(bc of Kai lol)

-when he was younger he liked punk/metal music but as he grew older he grew out of it and now likes more indie/soft type of songs

-Darklys never taught him how to read, write, do math, or just basic knowledge

-But what he did learn at darklys was how to pick a lock, pitpoket, and a few other villianish things

-Nya was the first one in the team that lloyd became friends with

-Kai was the last one he became freinds with, and that wasn't until the volcano

-He has a green thumb and can revive any plant from the dead, ANY.

-During the merge he learned how to cook and bake

-Knows how to play the drums and guitar, but he doesn't do it often because it's so loud

-Him and Brad secretly dated for a few months before telling the others

-Ik the FSM said he wouldn't remember, but he does sometimes wonder what would of happened if he went with the FSM at the end of season 10

-He has a love hate relationship with physical touch, he only wants it from people who he trusts or knows personally

-Loves taking walks out in nature, always goes with Zane though

-He doesn't like to be alone, unless he's in a mood. But even then he doesn't entirely wanna be alone but he doesn't wanna be with others either and have to socialize

-He likes it when Brad gives him pet names(or just other ppl- but like Brad gives him more sweet ones)

-He dies over praises, they give him too much life

-Kai teases him about Brad and he gets insanely red(even more so before they got together)

"and–" lloyd's continuing on with his story, with an obvious patch up or two and a loophole or several to the story to hide the some underlying details about the whole ordeal —whatever said ordeal was. but no one blamed lloyd, not when if he kept true to the tale, he would have revealed the identities of the secret ninja force as the people in the room minus the samurai and whatever skylor was.

jay wondered to himself, did you know about skylor's element? since you came from her mother's side, there was a chance you too had the element amber in your blood, but it had gone to her instead. he internal sighed tiredly, elements and bloodlines never made sense. then again, their fates didn't either. he moved, leaning forward to place his can of some drink on the table; he didn't quite bother familiarizing himself with the name when skylor's fridge kept changing every other day.

it'd be a good month before the monastery was finally fixed up and they'd get to move back into their own home. right now, the house kai (by miracle considering their reputations were tainted by greenie's name and unfortunate circumstances lloyd had as a garmadon) wasn't just home. nya and pixal offered to ask skylor if they could stay and fortunately the amber master didn't mind having the samurai and ex-samurai as roommates as long as she had one room left to spare for her cousin. jay was curious why at the time and now, it seemed surreal to finally met her long-awaited cousin.

oh well, at least lloyd had a friend outside his uncle's students.

you asked a question, someone answered and jay laughed at the response. it was good, life was good. he made his own comment to cole's answer back to you. skylor stood behind nya and jay, aiming a can of something and throwing it at lloyd, who swiftly caught it even if he wasn't quite paying attention. "thanks sky!" he half laughed back while she nodded back, sipping some of her own drink. she sure did love canned drinks..?

lloyd placed the can of what jay figured was monster, boy did he have a problem with monster, on the table, close to zane. he hadn't opened it yet, preoccupied with defending his pride against cole and kai's persistent teasing, the poor boy's face was burning red at the fact they were pulling all the stops while in front of his friend. nya was even also ever casually dropped an embarrassing memory or two before quietly sitting back and laughing at her brother trying so hard not to shutter.

zane, enjoying the friendly fire on lloyd and his adorably easy to flusher-ness, grabbed the wrong can —lloyd's monster and not his own something. and by utter surprise, his hand was soaked with sugary liquid and the room startled into confused silence. he looked down at his hands, looking at the half busted can of the energy drink and the puddle on the table and floor.

the kids (lloyd and [name]) scooted away from the sudden burst of the can, both cleared were terrified by the surprised with the latter using the former as a shield. jay and kai both half screamed, and their significant others both stared at sound with shocked eyes. pixal herself stepped back into the room after walking away for a moment, completely expectant that her beloved would do something like that, sighing as she went with skylor to help her clean up the mess.

"that was.. unexpected," he quietly stared, examining his hand and dropping the can's pieces into the bin —bought to him by skylor— and stepping out of the room to clean himself. when he stepped back inside the room, he softly smiled, albeit guilty. "sorry lloyd," he quietly apologized to him.

"no stress but.. how did it?" lloyd wondered, staring accusingly at the other cans.

"cans are weak as fuck nowadays man—" [name] stated, almost disappointedly before leaning forward to pick some of the things up and off the table to let pixal wipe the surface of it.

zane nodded, barely registering his friends half dying on the other side from the random can destroying that happened. he caught pixal and lloyd half chuckling to themselves before skylor handed lloyd a second can; this time, zane didn't touch the can in fear he might destroy it.

"behold–!" jay begins half dying from laughter, "zane! the can destroyer–!" the three of them doubled over in laughter. nya smacked her boyfriend on the head before finally succumbing to her own amusement. zane chuckled slightly embarrassed.

"no more cans for you." pixal promptly walks off after all the cleaning (shared between herself, lloyd, [name], zane himself and skylor) was done to do the thing she was originally going to do.

he laughed slightly, pulling her back to press a quick kiss to her temple. "understood, love."
