CQL and Genre Intertextuality
I'm being bashed over the head with the "nhs's fan in CQL is made of xuantie/dark iron" thing again and @poorlittleyaoyao please understand that I am thinking of this constantly since you made that post talking about it because I'm just.
holding my head in my hands bc ye gods the cql show writers were genre savvy in ways that are hilarious but also make me feel like I've been hit upside the head with a waffle iron.
For those of us who are no longer damaged by the post or hadn't seen it (I don't actually know where it's gone bc the search feature doesn't work on this webbed site):
Xuantie/Dark Iron is a Jin Yong created metal that famously was used for the blade of the Dragon Slaying Sabre in the third novel of the Condor Trilogy, 倚天屠龍記/The Heavenly Sword and Dragon Saber.
The Heaven Reliant Sword 倚天劍 was created from Yang Guo and Xiao Longnv's Gentleman and Lady swords, whilst the Dragon Slaying Saber 屠龍刀 was created from Grandmaster Dugu Seeking-a-Loss's Dark Iron Sword.
Can we please all take a moment to appreciate how NHS's fan not his saber, NHS, from The Family With The Sabers, gets to shout about how his fan is made of xuantie. The most famous for being the metal that made up The Dragon Slaying Saber. His fan. Not his saber. his fan. dark iron. Dragon Slaying Saber. This is so funny I'm about to mcfucking lose it yet again while typing this.
Going back to Grandmaster Dugu Seeking-A-Loss (who appears in both Return of the Condor Heroes and Xiao Ao Jianghu) and his giant pet condor (sadly, only a ROCH feature) who might've been his one true soulmate for a second, this situation from episode 7, when the Yunmeng Siblings are leaving the Cloud Recesses:
Now, the subtitles here really DO NOT do this line justice because when I first saw it it took me FLAT THE FUCK OUT and I had to lie on the floor laughing for like, 80 seconds before I got my breath back.
Okay, what this line ACTUALLY says is "I am Dugu Qiubai (Grandmaster Dugu Seeking-A-Loss), what's wrong with seeking a match?"
Now, to understand this, we come to this backstory on Dugu Qiubai in XAJH:
“Senior master Dugu Seeking-A-Loss, who created this set of sword techniques, had a name ‘Seeking-A-Loss.’ He had been seeking a loss all his life and still couldn’t get one. Once the sword techniques were executed, he would become unmatched anywhere in the world. Why would he have to defend? If anyone could have forced him to draw his sword back and defend himself, the respectful master would have burst with joy and be delighted beyond measure.” Feng Qingyang said.
“Dugu Seeking-A-Loss, Dugu Seeking-A-Loss,” Linghu Chong muttered as he imagined how the senior master had wandered about the Martial World, unmatched anywhere, with only his sword, and couldn’t even find a single one who was capable of forcing him into a defending stance. That was truly admirable.

"If anyone could force him to draw his sword back to defend himself, the grandmaster would have burst with joy and be delighted beyond measure" DO YOU SEE WHY JC STARTED CALLING WWX SHAMELESS NOW. they're JUNIORS. WWX is calling himself "the greatest man of all, who'd sought the feeling of losing just ONCE being forced to defend himself just ONCE in a LIFETIME" and saying "LWJ might be my equal. my soulmate. the loss I was seeking my whole life."
All 15 years of it I'm sure, WWX.
I'm not going to get into finding martial arts manuals or a respected grandmaster who taught you incredible things in a cave bc 1) LHC and Feng Qingyang up there are sitting together, in a cave and LHC is being taught incredible things and 2) Duan Yu from Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils once found the magic finger lasers of ultra laser in a cave. In front of the statue of a goddess. (don't talk about the dancing goddess statue now, Tav. We don't have time for that in this post.)
Not kidding the intertextuality of CQL and how much it plays with and against the tropes of its genre, especially other wuxia tv adaptations as well as wuxia novels is insane. There's other ones I'm missing for certain and these were just the most funny to me, personally, but! just! oh my god! insane! insane! SO funny, so clever in so many ways

The guys in this book are all great. Listen I don't think a single person in this picture understands the nature of love or romance. Maybe like 1.5 people in the whole book do, which is a slay in my book. Anyways read Devil Venerable Also Wants To Know.

HELLO!! YOUR BAIZHU WITH CHRONICALLY ILL READER IS THE BEST THING THAT'S EVERY HAPPENED!!! I've never seen a blog that does only platonic things, and as an aroace person, IT MAKES ME SO HAPPY! I wasn't too sure if you requests were open or not, but I was wondering if you could make either some headcanons or a fic where the reader (from that series) has a flare up or gets sick and Baizhu takes care of them? I'm unfortunately sick right now (just in time for when my final school assignments are due, slay 😍) but found family and hurt/comfort are literally the best thing ever, and, if put together, I'm pretty sure will cure me /j. author's thoughts. hello lovely!!! thank youu <3 i am slowly collecting people that like this series like how i collect shiny rocks. its great to get a request related to it. i hold this series very dearly, so please (and this goes for everyone reading this!) never be shy to send thoughts about it or requests related to it. anyway, i love catering to aroace folk, you all are so special to me. im on the aro spectrum myself, so i get it. i know from experience that it can be super frustrating looking for fanfic content that's non-romantic. please remember to take care of yourself! i totally understand the feeling of needing to finish final assignments while being sick. me and you are in the exact same boat LMAO... my requests are always open btw! ive no intention of ever closing them. in the end, i went with our poor reader being sick rather than having flare ups, since i already briefly touched on that idea in employee benefits.
how does baizhu care for his junior herbalist when they're sick and out of commission?
baizhu is most often the first to know when they're sick or otherwise unwell. he's so impossibly attentive to their bodily condition, simply because their health is partially his responsibility. he's their teacher. what kind of mentor would neglect to take care of their apprentice? a bad one, that's what kind.
(he also feels somewhat indebted to them—even though they're chronically ill, they're always doing anything they can to help him recover after his "secret art" treatments. even though he's the doctor, they've helped care for him on more than one occasion. he has to return the favor whenever he can. just because he's older doesn't mean he gets to freely take advantage of their kindness.)
if he's not the first to know, he's the second, because the only instance where he wouldn't know first is if they woke up ill at home.
he'll always end up being the second to know, at the very least. someone will inform him of their condition, whether that be a parent or a sibling or another family member. sometimes a friend of theirs may tell him, such as xingqiu, chongyun, hu tao, or xiangling.
in hu tao's case... she may be distrustful of him, but she does tell him when they aren't well. [name] is a childhood friend of hers. she cares about their health and, surprisingly, doesn't want to put them in the ground just yet!
even though she dreads the path they've chosen to walk down... she still cares for them, very much so.

regardless of how baizhu finds out, they'll end up being cared for at the pharmacy.
though he could prescribe them medication and let them be taken care of at home...
he often wants to care for them himself.
gui has asked why in the past, and baizhu really has never had a good answer for him.
he's really not sure why he wants to be the one to monitor them. perhaps it's because it gives him a sense of calmness and reassures him that they're recovering well.
after all, if their condition were to rapidly decline for any reason... he could fix it.
(to some others, his concern might seem overprotective. unnecessary. however, something as simple as the flu has been known to take lives. he worries that, because of their chronic illness, they may be more susceptible to a severe case than others are.)
he has the means to save them if something like that were to happen, and undoubtedly, the life of his sweet and kind apprentice is one that deserves to be saved and protected.
perhaps it's also because it seems to put qiqi at ease; baizhu's noticed that she gets fidgety in [name]'s absence during work hours, but when they're ill and being cared for at the pharmacy, she functions very well and often even remembers to check on them herself.
sometimes when they have a fever, qiqi may sit by their side for minutes at a time and just press her little cold hands on their forehead to cool them off. she also ensures that they stay hydrated.
both baizhu and gui find this behavior very endearing. qiqi cares deeply for her big sibling (despite the fact that she's technically older...). her bond with them is something very special and sweet to bear witness to.
bubu pharmacy's work environment is familial and tightly knit by nature, so it isn't too hard to imagine that something would feel wrong if one of the four herbalists were gone for whatever reason. even those who don't work there are affected by the absence of one or more of the pharmacists.
overall, baizhu takes very good care of them when they fall ill.
he monitors them closely, hand-crafts their medicine depending on what they need, makes sure that their fluid intake is maintained...
he dotes on them tbh.
"Ugh..." they groaned, blearily blinking up at their mentor. Baizhu's hand against the feverish skin of their forehead was cold; they couldn't help but lean into the gentle touch. "Bàba?"
He didn't point it out. He hardly even acknowledged their words, as if he were somehow used to it. He only smiled, hand stroking tenderly over their disheveled hair, taming the defiant strands no doubt caused by restless sleep. "So sorry to wake you, dear."
Even Changsheng was quiet—she only hummed thoughtfully from her place around Baizhu's neck. Normally, she'd find something to tease them about (usually because they started it!), but now... she seemed to know that it just wasn't right to tease them in their hazy state of mind.
Gui was quiet, too. He was surprised. He had never heard them address their mentor such an... informal way, let alone with familial terms. He did once briefly think that the dynamic they had with Baizhu was awfully family-like, but...
It was still unexpected.
"Come, now. It's time to take your medicine again, and then you can go back to sleep, okay?"
Gui watched, still silent, as they hummed in absentminded acknowledgement, rubbing their eyes ever so slightly. It didn't seem to help them come to at all; their gaze was still distant and unfocused and they didn't even realize how they addressed the doctor. If they did... they'd probably apologize, embarrassed, but they showed no such emotion. Baizhu gently guided them into a sitting position, rubbing small circles on their back.
Gui handed the cup filled about halfway with herbal medication off to the doctor. Baizhu gingerly guided it to their lips, knowing very well that the guidance was needed; they looked half-asleep sitting up. Archons know they were in no condition to successfully do it themselves. They took the medicine without so much as a whine about its bitterness—they only grimaced slightly after swallowing. Gui supposed that they never really were one to complain about it, even when fully coherent. 'I think it would set a bad example for others if I complained,' they once told him. 'Plus, it's not like Dr. Baizhu gets some kind of sadistic pleasure from giving medication to me, so there's no reason to complain. It's herbal. There's nothing to be done about the taste... I know he doesn't like taking it either. Hehe. It's kind of funny, actually, like we're hiding some kind of company secret. Herbalists who don't like the taste of herbal medicine.'
It was only after he left the room with the doctor that he pointed it out:
"They called you bàba."
"Hm?" Baizhu hummed, turning to Gui. "Oh. Yes... [Name] has done it quite a few times, actually, whether that be because of fever delirium or a slip of the tongue. I don't mind it. It only means that they feel safe enough to be vulnerable here. Qiqi has done it a few times, as well. Those two are only children, so... it is to be expected."
Gui then smiled, nodding. "It's cute."
Baizhu couldn't help but agree, his lips tilting upwards into a little smile himself. "It is."

Since the devs and creative minds behind the FFX -Will- have claimed they wrote the audio drama ambiguous on purpose in order for us to fill in the gaps using our imagination, I'd like to ask what your desire or vision of FFX-3 is! :D

I genuinely believe that the future of Spira, unless it's in a distant one, should be left alone. I think X-2 wrapped up the start of the Eternal Calm nicely, and there is no need to push it further. Continuing from where X-2 left off is an example of beating a dead horse.
Also, from what I've seen, going back to Braska's journey is a popular X-3 concept among fans, but that would be the worst, imo. I don't see how it would introduce fresh elements to the story. Essentially, it would be a rehash of X, but with no surprises. I think we should all appreciate how we learned about that time through Auron's recollections (from his personal stories and the memories we witnessed in the ruins), and I fear that a full game focusing on it would diminish that impact. It's an unpopular opinion, but I truly hope that never comes to fruition.
I have two ideas, and one of them is fairly stupid, but I'm sharing. In fact, let's start with that one:
01. Auron in Dream Zanarkand. Tidus once said that fiends were a rarity in DZ, and that it was a big deal when one showed up. It'd be incredible if we got to discover that Auron was the one responsible for keeping them at bay, and was also the one slaying them once they reached the city (a boss, even, which would indeed be a "big deal"). Not necessarily as a hero either, but specifically driven by his promise to ensure Tidus' safety. It's evident that he kept up with his combat skills during his 10 years there, since he wasn't at all rusty when the time for battle came. In fact, he was prepared. The Japanese dialogue hinted that Auron periodically checked in on Tidus. It's interesting to imagine him being away dealing with fiends during those intervals. Perhaps he even had some form of affiliation with a small group of people who learned to fight and are committed to protecting DZ and uncovering some truths. This group could have uncovered something odd that helped them understand there could be more to DZ than meets the eye. They'd be low profile to avoid being dismissed as wacko. Then comes Auron, a sensible man with a strong head on his shoulders, and his arrival in their lives would provide a sense of companionship. Yet he never says he believes them or knows something. Maybe he sees himself in these people who are driven by what they believe, and he knows their worlds would be shattered by the truth.
Since Sin was known to destroy anything/anyone who got too close to DZ, it's plausible that remnants from another world (Spira) would wash up on its shores. Maybr strange technology and trinkets, or unfamiliar clothing. Ideally something more creative than that, lol. Their group backstory would be that their discoveries presented a pattern that each of then began to notice at some point, thus rendering them "touched" by Spira. It would provide an opportunity to see how someone from a fayth's dream or summoning can transform into something more once they've been touched by Spira or Sin. Remember what Bahamut's fayth said:
"Both you and your father have been touched by Sin. Sin, the one whom all Spira—the spiral—revolves. You two are more than just dreams now. Just a little more."
Vague enough to have fun with, if you ask me. Exploring Auron's time in DZ (especially the period between his shattered beliefs and the end of his mortal life) could be awesome. It would allow for insight as to why he aged. Did he manifest it on his own, and if so, was it gradual or immediate?
There's a scene in FFX where Tidus (talking to Yuna) revisits a memory that took place while he was still a kid, shortly before his mother's death. Auron was shown to have already aged by then. So, maybe the stress, heartache, fear, and grief (the immense emotional burden) manifested through his appearance, making him look as old and worn as he felt on the inside.
I can't see any of this being translated into a full-fledged game, though. Maybe a smaller game where the "big bad" is actually Auron's inner turmoil and dealing with his new reality—similar to Buffy the Vampire Slayer season 6, lol. But those are my unrefined thoughts on that jumble of dumb.

A Summoner Birthday
Special Quest: Jugo
You were right. This place is nothing like I've ever seen before. It really looks like a story book in here.
I know. You can hardly tell everything here is just ones and zeros.
You brought Jugo to the virtual fairytale world because he was curious about it.
Lupin: So, where would you like to go?
Jugo: I would like to see the whole place, but I think I can stay here a while. This town itself is pretty amazing.
Lupin: Okay then, let's take the penny tour.
Jugo: Let's go.
With that, you and Jugo take a walk around Candyland.
After walking around the town for what seemed like a few hours, you and Jugo find yourselves at the castle.
Jugo: (happy) That was a fun walk. I can't believe I'm saying this, but even Yamata no Orochi enjoyed itself.
Lupin: I'm glad you both are having fun. It's good to see you two get along every now and again.
Jugo: I know... If only this were so in the real world.
Lupin: Don't feel bad. You are a great martial artist. You and Orochi already have an understanding.
Jugo: Only because we met you. I couldn't believe it when you were able to quell whatever conflict we had.
Lupin: I only helped a little. It was you and made it easier.
Jugo: Maybe. My parents taught me martial arts for when I had to be sacrificed to Orochi. Since then, things were very difficult because we were at each other's throats. But when I learned about your Rule of Rending, I was happy and decided to fight along side you and your friends. You all accepted and liked me, not just for my power, but for also how much I cared. Especially you and Wakan.
Lupin: We both love you as much as you love us. You and the others each have your strengths. We helped you find yours. We just hope that even after we help you with your curse, you will still stand with us until the very end.
Jugo: And I will. No matter what happens, I want to be with everyone. You, especially. When you are around, my curse doesn't really feel like a curse anymore... It's a blessing in disguise.
Lupin: And you are blessing to us. Please, let us stay together, fight together, and love together.
Then, Jugo takes hold of Lupin's hand very tightly. It's not a hurtful tight, but more of an "I-just-want-to-hold-it" tight.
Jugo: Yes. We will be together. You, me, all of us. We will stay as one.
The both of you embrace each other with open warm arms. Even Yamata no Orochi could not help but feel the connection between you two, even though you hold within you the soul of the one who first slayed it. Even it understands and would not interrupt this moment.
After a while, the both of you make your way back to town with renewed hope.

Mortal Kombat: The Requiem Mirror; Chapter 3: Battle of the Realms
We cut to Cassie, in a chamber, with her weapons on the opposite side.
Cassie: Guys? Can you hear me? Where are you!?
Robin: Yeah, where are we?
Kung Jin: Some kind of... Room?
they quickly realized they were in some kinds of chambers, seperated from one another.
Robin: Hold on, there's a door here, let me just... OPEN SESAME!
he yells out, as the door opens, but not to his command.
Cassie: I don't think that was you, dude.
Robin: Shut up and step outside.
They all walk out to the coliseum grounds, standing infront of millions of tournament fans who were once banished to this realm, and a ominous voice, who reveals to be Valthor, starts talking:
Valthor: Welcome, viewers and champions, to tour de Rellum!
he yells out, as the crowd goes wild, and the hundred fighters who compete in the tournament stare in awe.
Valthor: I've waited many millennia for this, and I've come a long way to be here. In this great 100 man (and/or woman) melee, anything goes! You make someone bleed? that's five points. You shatter some bones? ten. Slay your opponent? You move on to the next round! every round ends if half the ammount of current kombatants have been defeated. With that in mind. Let the Battles begin!
As the crowd roars, the fight begins. Cassie, Kung Jin, Jaqui, Takeda, and Robin rush to defend themselves and fight their opponents.
As the battle rages on, Kombat Kids and the rest of the fighters face their opponents and fight with everything they have. They use their skills, knowledge, and weapons to their advantage as they battle for their lives and freedom. The stakes are high and the fights are intense, but they know that the only way out is through. As they fight, they each realize the importance of their mission and the gravity of the situation. They know they have to fight hard and stay focused if they want to have a chance of winning and escaping. With the first round being over in minutes, Valthor yells out an announcement.
Valthor: Our first round is over. And we're down to 50 fighters. We'll be back after the ten Earthrealm minute break.
The Kombat Kids, exhausted and wounded, take a breather and rest as the remaining 45 fighters prepare for the next round.
Cassie: Well, I'd say this went better than expected.
Takeda: We're not out of the woods yet, Cass. There are still 45 fighters left, and we have to beat them all if we want to get out of here.
Cassie: I know, Takeda. I'm just trying to stay positive.
Jaqui: Yeah, we gotta keep our spirits up if we want to have a shot at winning.
Robin: There was a girl back there, I, feel like I've seen her before...
Kung Jin: What? You got a crush on her?
Robin: What? No! I'm trying to say that I feel like I've seen her before. She wasn't an Earthrealmer or anything like that, but I couldn't really tell.
Cassie: We have 5 minutes left before the next round. We should try and get some rest and save our strength.
Meanwhile, Billie is training. She practices her fighting moves and prepares for the next round. She has her doubts, but she knows she has to keep her focus and stay positive if she wants to have a chance at winning. Billie takes a deep breath and steels herself, knowing that the next round is going to be a tough one.
Valthor: Alright, welcome back, fans and fighters alike, to Tour de Rellum!
some fighter: Come on! You could have come up with a better name!
the fighter says, before he is blasted into oblivion by the sinister figure.
Valthor: As. I. Was. Saying! ...Welcome back. We have 25 fighters left, not counting the one I just eradicated, so 24, and it's time for the 2nd round to begin. Buckle your engines and start your seat belts, because its time to FIGHT!
the crowd cheers, as the 24 fighters charge at one another. Cassie and Kung Jin square off against two large, muscular men. They put their fighting skills and martial arts training to the test as they battle their opponents. The two men are skilled fighters, but the Kombat Kids hold their own. Takeda, Jaqui and Robin fight their opponents as well, using their powers and skills to their advantage. Billie is on an absolute spree, slashing and slaying left and right. She notices Red Robin in the fray and decides to give him a run for his money, which he returns. The two young fighters trade blows and parries, each one looking for an opening to take the other down.
Robin: You Know, we could settle this over some coffee, if you'd want! I know this cute little coffee shop back home, I could treat you if we get outta here!
Siris: (smirking) How about we finish this first, and then we can talk about your date offer.
Kung Jin: Hah! Called it! You two're dating!
Both: Shut up, you're ruining this for me!
They yelled as they looked at one another, and kept on fighting. Takeda and Jaqui are fighting together, back to back, their powers and skills on full display as they battle their opponents. The two of them work in sync, using their abilities and weapons to their advantage as they fight for their lives. Meanwhile, Cassie is battling her opponent, using her martial arts skills and gun experteese to take him down. She lands a series of quick, powerful punches and kicks, before finishing him off with a devastating Shadow Kick. The dragoness toppled Robin to the ground with a knife at his throat, but just before anything could happen, the 13th to last fighter has been eliminated. Siris, Cassie, Robin, Kung Kin, Takeda, Jaqui and six others were the last twelve to remain, and they were the only ones left, in the 3rd round. Valthor looks at the crowd, and speaks.
Valthor: Ladies, gentlemen, and other, the 3rd and final round is upon us. Only one lucky winner will be granted their freedom. But before we get to the next round, I'd like to thank the tournament's sponsor, Hetap, whom's CEO's life I have put into custody until he decided to sponsor this tournament. And now, another 10 minute break. Get your snacks, have your drinks, these final few rounds'll be...*intense*.
Siris: You were lucky, but I guess you haven't changed a bit. See ya in the next round.
Robin: Yeah, uh, see ya! (he whispers to his friends) What's a Hetap?
Takeda: I'll explain later.
Meanwhile, back on Earthrealm, Johnny with his squadron discovers some kind of strange energy looming around the last spot where the Kombat Kids were. He tries to restore it with his green glowing hand, which eventually, succeeds. He calls base for a status report.
Johnny: Status report: Opened a portal to yet another dimension. Sonya, do you read me? Over.
Sonya: Yes, we do, Johnny. Please, be careful. (she says, a hint of fear in her voice) Over.
Johnny: We might need a few choppers, on the way, this is a big portal. Over. (he turns to the squad) Okay guys, the rest is up to you, I'll have my daughter and the others out of this mess, and then we'll go home. Understood? (the team nods) Good.
The image cuts to Kano in his unsupervized cell in the SF headquarters, relaxing while drawing, which is his favorite past time. Suddenly, a red puddle is on a floor, out which Skarlet pops out of, but Kano barely notices. Skarlet is surprised at how easily he was distracted. Then she remembers, and walks up behind him. She touches his shoulder.
Skarlet: Hello, Kano. Did you miss me?
Kano: Oh hey, luv', how's work goin'?
Skarlet: Working on it.
The blood mistress says, as she takes Kano out of the cell back through the puddle to the Black Dragon base. Kano and Skarlet share a brief, but passionate kiss, after Skarlet is quick to recap what happened in the past few hours.
Skarlet: Our daughter is captured and I am not sure where, her captor has disapeared around here.
Kano: Through a portal?
Skarlet Through a portal. Wait, how did you know?
Kano: (smirking) I know a lot more than you think, luv'. But the important thing is, we're gettin' her back. Together. We need sum' wizard or sorcerer to restore this portal.
Skarlet: I prioritize in blood magic, but I could try. But it will take a bit of time.
Kano: Take all the time you need, luv'. I'm here for ya. But we gotta hurry. If anything happens to her, I'm slittin' someone's throat.
Skarlet continues, but she makes it work. The two Black Dragon leaders with a team of they're greatest fighters prepare to enter the dark realm, to save their daughter and free her. Skarlet and Kano prepare to enter the portal, with their weapons at the ready. The two leaders, prepared for anything, enter the portal. The first thing they see is nothing but a dark void, with comets, random objects that were the worlds greatest mistakes, and in the middle of it all, a large coliseum with cheering. But as soon as they see this, one Black Dragon member acknowledges the Johnny Cage and the Special Forces beside them. Skarlet and Kano, along with their group of warriors, ready their weapons and prepare to engage in battle.
Johnny: Woah, woah woah! Everybody, chill the "F" out! I know, a lot of you have a hate boner against one another, but the coincidence that we're all here, implies we're here for similar reasons. Kano! How's it goin' ya sick bastard. 'See you hooked up with someone, and you're not in your cell? What a whacky situation. (he laughs) And who is the lady?
Kano: Listen, I'm on my mission, you're on yours, so shut up, get off me sausage, and bugger off.
some S.F. solider voiced by Nick Landis (offscreen): We get it, you're australian!
Kano: Alright, mate, calm down.
Johnny: Look, just tell me what you're here for. Whatever it is, it can't be much different than why I'm here.
Kano, starting to lose his patience: We're here to find our daughter.
Johnny: You have a daughter?
Skarlet: Yes, and some sinister force has taken her.
Johnny: Oh cool, same, and her entire squad, too.
Kano: Yeah, so we're all in this mess together. But let's not get all sentimental about it. We find our kids, kick this Edge lord's arse, and then we go back to being enemies. Agreed?
Johnny: Agreed, but if you cross me, you'll be seeing more than double, got it?
Kano: Wound't have it any other way, Cage.
Tremor, who's been in the back the whole time: Okay, are we doing this or are you two just gonna keep having this dick-measuring contest?
Kano looks at Tremor firmly: Traitor.
Tremor: Ass-
Johnny Cage: Alright, enough bickering, people. We've got a mission, and that's to find our kids and bring 'em back. Tremor, you coming along?
Tremor: Yeah, I'm in. Don't think this makes us pals, Kano.
Kano: Trust me, I'd rather stick my hand in a blender than be pals with you, Tremor.
They head to the not-so-ominous and dark coliseum to search for the kids.
Johnny: So, how do we get it?
Kano: I don't fuckin' know, you're suppose to be the smart guy in the situation.
Tremor: Hold on, I might have an idea.
The golem turns into rubble and fuses with the ground to get under the door and open it from inside of the coliseum, letting the two groups in.
Johnny: Well, look who's the smart guy now.
Kano: Ey, fuck you, pretty boy.
Skarlet: Let's just keep moving.
The groups look for a way in, but don't find one in time for the begging of the semi-final round.

Minamoto No Yorimitsu appreciation post
guys STOP SLEEPING ON YORIMITSU!!! I love him so so much and I swear nobody took note of him but somehow ppl took notice to KATAKURI??? HE AINT HALF AS MUCH OF A MAN YORIMITSU IS!!!! cries/
I'm gonna be honest ever since Hanako brung up Yorimitsu in the boy exercist arc I was like, WOW can't wait for that to be of plot relavence
and OMYGOSH was I interested in the Minamoto history!! we've seen shrine preists and the way our current exercists live, we've been told they used to be more powerful, we've heard of the Yokai supernatural ages some, SO YORIMITSU HAD TO COME IN THE SERIES EVENTUALLY RIGHT???? so I waited so long for him on page!! the closest I knew we got to Minamoto history was Hakubo, and how he had Minamoto beads wrapped around him in the official art with Sumire. very questionable, BUT OH BOY WAS THE BACKSTORY WITH YORIMITSU FUN!! the second I saw his figure I was like, woah wait....
AND THEN LIKE NEXT PAGE I SAW HIS LEG AND WAS LIKE BREATHLESSLY LIKE "NO WAY....COULD IT BE YORIMITSU?" AND THEN I READ SOME MORE DIALOGUE AND IT SAID YORI FUCKING MITSU!!!! I WAS SO HAPPY AND HIS DESIGN IS SO TOP TEIR???
I kid you not I was internalized waiting for him to come and I said his name like before it was even read and like, PPL STOP SLEEPING ON THIS GOD OF A MAN???
AND WOW WAS HAKUBO'S DISCRIPTION OF YORIMITSU SO PERFECT!!
I ADORED how it was done so much!! and how Yorimitsu acted was so fun!! his personality was so fiery and willing, and boy does he have those Minamoto genetics, you can thank this sexy man for Teru's beautiful self!
okay but like, everyone has to agree his design?????so fucking beautiful?????and WOW THE PONY???? AND HIS BANG PEICES???
THE DESIGN THEY CHOSE FOR HIM?? it's so so fucking stunning, I've seen stunning Yorimitsu designs before but WOAH did AidaIro go all out for their Yorimitsu!! and I am over the TOP for what they did for his sleeves and armor!! the classic tbhk Minamoto style and typical Yorimitsu attire? so perfect?? and I'd say the take on the Oē Mountain slaying (I believe it was?) was so effortlessly PERFECT!! and honestly with the backstory I wasn't really surprised because this is all something I could have guessed before with what I've seen/read and the artwork but it WAS SUCH AN AMAZING READ!!!
and boy was the way he treated an Oni like Hakubo, well, unnatural? that's such an interesting touch on Yorimitsu!! he is such a chance guy, but he knows he could take care of him if he needed too, but that trust was something Hakubo hasn't been shown :(
ALSO BACK TO YORIMITSU'S DESIGN(I know I keep coming back to it but shush)
after we finally got him in the manga panels I was over joyed, but after a few weeks, I started wondering when our official coloring would be? because as much as people didn't really color him there were still colorings and I had ideas from other Yorimitsu designs and color pallettes I've seen, but couldn't exactly decide what AidaIro would go for, BUT BOY WAS I NOT EXPECTING AIDAIRO TO GO FOR THE RED AND WHITE COLOR SCHEME?? ITS SO PERFECT AND ACCURATE AND BEAUTIFUL AND OML
WE ALL KNEW YORIMITSU WOULD HAVE GOLD ACCENTS BUT OMG DID THEY TURN OUT SO MUCH PRETTIER THEN I EXPECTED??? HE SLAYS SO BADDDD
THOSE ICY BLUES OMYGOSH!!!!😳😳 THEY'RE SO PRETTY!!! I already adored Teru's blue eyes so I couldn't wait for Yorimitsu's, BUT THEY TURNED OUT SO MUCH MORE STUNNING THEN I ORIGINALLY THOUGHT!!! (also side note I rly liked Hakubo's working outfit colors)
and his spikey👏ass👏HAIR?👏👏👏looks so good tied up!!
and again, his interactions with Hakubo were AMAZING!
it's so amazing to see on page, and he is so silly!! his interactions and the way he treated people I imagine could be blunt at times, but he cares so much!!! and his priorities are to protect, he's so perfect for this manga sjsjjdjd(also the official art with Yorimitsu based on the panel in the right bottom corner was priceless)
his laugh and smile is so cute too?!?!!?!?! and he DOES remind us of Kou huh? so happy Hakubo saw it too!!! weren't we all waiting for him to think of Yorimitsu while fighting Kou?
and he still looking fine asf there????????HAKUBO REMEMBERS HOW HIS PONYTAIL WAS SO JSDHFHDKDNDOJDJDOFNFJJF
okay but actually AidaIro's portrayal of Yorimitsu was literally so amazing like like like

BUFFY: What is it?
JOYCE: I'm staying overnight at the hospital for observation. I'm getting a CAT scan.
Buffy doesn't know what to say. Joyce is quick to reassure her.
JOYCE: It's only one night and they say even if there is something, it's still very early if they didn't see it before. I'm going to be fine.
Buffy puts on a brave smile for her mother's sake.

˗ˏˋ Tuesday, March 14 – Our EsP class was absolutely fun as we talk about our experiences from the promenade while doing a performance task—an ideal weekly schedule that I sure won't follow 😋.
˗ˏˋ Wednesday, March 15 – Finally done discussing the Romantic Period in our Music class, and playing the piano with our teacher was such a hasty yet amazing experience! We are currently practicing sir Frédéric Chopin's Nocturne in E-flat major, Op. 9, No. 2 for the upcoming group performance but since I'm part of our class' chorale, I was exempted in this output and the 3rd Quarter summative test—one of the biggest reasons I should definitely work hard and win the contest! 🏋🏼♀️
˗ˏˋ Thursday, March 16 – New economics-related song done! It is a cover of that of sir Rick Astley's song as we plan to rickroll the whole class 😎, and yes, we all did an amazing job! The instrumental we used is from Caitlyn Myers et al. to make the atmosphere of our class youthful when we present it. Check it out here!
˗ˏˋ Friday, March 17 – My mother's-fellow-teacher-in-a-Chinese-school-and-friend-who-is-my-now-favorite-teacher-in-Filipino's birthday! I've known him since I was in elementary and the fact that he's now my teacher in high school makes me realize that life really moves faster if you don't cherish each moment. I pray that he'll always have a healthy and happy life as he becomes better every day. We love you, sir Su! 🥰 I apologize for passing my output late though it won't be in Google Classroom as I have passed a Canva link—the file is editable and new edits will be seen if one just clicks on it 😭.
Speaking of which, though I have the option to use the remaining 40 minutes before the output's due—used most of the nighttime to create a fugly owl clay sculpture for an Arts worksheet 😩—, I chose to use my weekdays to write an original adaptation of an angst legend about the mulberry tree (Pyramus and Thisbe); heavily inspired by Greek Mythology and the "middle child syndrome", "childhood friends", and "star-crossed lovers" trope with a hint of a Biblical theme because I plan to publish most of my written stories someday after the school year 😩✊🏼.
Tbh, every output I've passed in my Filipino subject is a tragedy, my best friend—and my adventurous life—is the main culprit for this 😭. Lav likes to read angsty fanfiction (DSMP-centric as such) and rant about her thoughts in our Discord server 🤕. As a friend, we tend to be influenced by them and so I delved into the realm of AO3 and here I am, traumatized on the first week of usage after reading a Rin Itoshi fanfiction that literally made a deep cut in my heart and made me think of my life for a whole damn week 😞. The Last Eighteen Pages
I once heard how the last eighteen pages of a book are the most important part of the finale.
The decrescendo after the climax, the falling action, the conclusion–a reminder of what the protagonist faces ahead. Sometimes, there's even a surprise twist as is seen in horror novels.
A good book is worth the reread. I've read the same manga 7 times and still have yet to lose interest in it. There's an ephemeral euphoria in reliving your favorite scenes. Maybe it's when a character says a line that has stuck with you. Maybe it's a fight scene that you can't seem to get enough of. Sometimes it's watching the protagonist's awkward attempts at flirting and finding yourself in them.
But all stories have an ending. It can't go on forever. That's what makes a story beautiful. An eternal good becomes a constant, it becomes expected, and, at worst, it becomes repetitive.
A temporary joy is special because it will eventually end. A book has a first page and it has a last one. A chapter in one's life will close as a new one begins.
Sometimes, there's a new volume to the book. A follow-up to continue where it left off. Sometimes, the book will gather dust and you're left only with the memory.
The last eighteen pages are the points I begin to slow down my read, trying to appreciate the art, the humor, the silly dialogue, and the clichés. The awkwardness of being shackled to his crush because someone wrote their name on a list, being mad that most of their pictures is of him frowning like an idiot, and being absolutely shocked that he managed to get her to dance with him–like seriously, how.
But eventually, one needs to close the book. You can't leave it and have the pages spoil in the open... *It's time to read the last eighteen pages and see the odds of a next volume*
Flipping to the 18th and 17th to the last page, the hero slays the demon king after an intense battle. The demon king has been defeated, the hero and his companions have saved their country.
Turning to the 16th and 15th to the last, the heroes are awarded with medals of honor, a testament to their valor and courage against a nigh insurmountable foe.
Pages 14 and 13 to the last, a grand feast is held in their name, an invitation sent to all. The cheer and merry of the crowd seemed to only increase as the moon hit its zenith and the liquor waned.
The 12th, 11th, and 10th to the last pages show the companions of the hero return to their hometown, content on living out their lives in peace. The hero embraces them one last time and thanks them for their invaluable aid.
I hesitate to flip to the next pages. It was never brought up during the ceremonies and celebrations. None spoke about it. I already know where it will be put.
I turn to the next pages. The hero is at a graveyard as sunset approaches, a half dozen bouquet of flowers in hand. He lays them one by one on the jeweled and ornate graves of his former allies, his friends.. no.. they were pretty much family. He offers each of them a eulogy in respect.
An archer who couldn't be trusted to cook. The dancer with a permanent frown on his face. The chatty wizard who silently did everything he could for the party, nay a word of thanks did he ask. The newly hired knight who stood up for the party in the face of the restless civilians eager to smear their name.
I flip to the third to the last page. The hero walks a ways away, two bouquets left in his arms as he looks around. He spots what he's looking for and walks towards it. A simple tombstone with the words:
*A child that dreamed of more*
The hero kneels and prays before laying down another bouquet.
Then he walks.. and he walks. The words cut off and require me to flip the paper held tightly in my fingers.
I ask myself if I really do want to see the next page. An ending that was so strongly hinted at that Chekhov's Gun would have shown its model, date of purchase, and warranty.
I open the second to the last page. The hero walks up the hill to a mossy, oak tree with faded carved words on it. There are no eulogies. The few humorous, yet intimate, thoughts of the hero towards his allies are none to be heard. No stupid lines that he'd normally say around them. No bickering about pointless subjects. Just silence... Pure, deafening.. silence.
I hold in my tears–you shouldn't get attached to fictional characters.
"Stupid... You're an absolute dumbass... I could have... I could have.."
The succeeding lines flowed like the tears that fell from both our eyes, recounting everything.
"I'm sorry... "
The hero wipes his eyes and lays down the final bouquet. The faded words come to his view.
"Promise!"
I flip to the last page. There are no surprise resurfacing of evil dragons. No more wars. No underground shadow organization controlling the world. No more demon kings.
Just an ending with the hero sitting on a bench as the sun... sets...
I gently lay the red cover of the book on the final page and, with it, the story comes to a close.

Japan Fest & Eclipse
Today was a really good day for me!
I was really excited for the solar eclipse (which I didn't get to see) and Japan Fest.
NOMA sponsors Japan Fest every October and I was lucky my schedule was free to attend!
There's always a drum show where you can hear the beats from miles away! A performance from the 'Candy Mix Maids' where they would dance for the audience. Inside the museum was a martial arts demonstration showing off different techniques that I enjoyed.
There were a lot of cosplayers that attended, and I was able to recognize a few characters. It was fun to see everyone in their costumes and kimonos all the different colors and patterns.
Shinobu Kocho from 'Demon Slayer' was a fan favorite and as one of my favorite characters in the series she slayed (I would've cosplayed as her too).
That was my first time trying takoyaki from Ajun Cajun and it was delicious! The outer shell was crunchy while the inside was hot and chewy. I now understand why people (real or animated) eat them so quickly, they're taste but will burn the roof of your mouth.
There were so many venders selling kimonos, enamel pins, and etc. Some venders were even offering classes that can be taken after the festival.
The vender I was most excited to see was Nola Kawaii . When, the pandemic first started the store closed down and is now online. I was so lucky to meet the owner and she helped me with selections.
Many other exhibits of the museum were still open during the event. I was able to see items that I've seen before, and some new things added to each exhibit.
Despite not seeing the eclipse I had an exciting day. I can't wait for Japan Fest and the solar eclipse next year.

I did it on my modded switch so I don't have a screenshot, but I finally beat Wildfrost (the true boss!). Man that game is tons of fun, if you like roguelike desk builders I highly recommend it. It has probably the best art I've seen in the genre except maybe dicey dungeons, but it also can be hella complex if you let it be. Also the recent QOL patch made the game a lot better imo, some things didn't make sense before and now the game is in a great shape.
I don't have a time cuz I played between switch and PC, but I probably have 50 hours? Not anywhere near what I put into slay the spire, but still a sizeable amount. Next big roguelike card game I'm waiting for is Numazu in the Mirror 🤞 hope that one is just as good.
