Obscure EBF character...s? time
Posting about this b/c it was a funny experience.
SO I was thinking about EBF2. For a few weeks now I've been daydreaming about a more expanded version of the game, since its story is interesting enough to make me consider an imaginary version of it thats. U know. Taken way too seriously XD
One thing I was thinking about is This Guy! Just some minor character who is not important at all, but was reoccurring (appearing in Brawl Royal and EBF2). In Brawl Royal he's there To Die and in EBF2 he's there to sell you things!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Since he has a pretty finished and interesting design, I wondered if he had a name or was a reference to someone else.
THEN I decided I'd ask the EBF server people, because they talk about the games a lot so would probably know!
They were a little rude BUT mentioned that he could be a later design of this bitch from this old old old pre-EBF stuff animation.
Tumblr media
I thought to myself "...they look nothing alike though?" but thought that maybe there was just some kind of total redesign because the people there must've had a reason to think that.
THIS GUY'S NAME IS LAZARUS (which is a very Name compared to most EBF character, who all have very normal sounding names). His thing is uh. Being from this old old animation where he fights Matt and Natalie with some prototype Lance.
youtube
you can tell its not canon for every reason there's a legged cat
Tumblr media
I thought this guy seemed like an interesting not-well-known EBF character and liked looking into him, but I was becoming more and more doubtful this was the same person ??? Especially when I looked through brawl royal again and FOUND Lazarus was in it!
Tumblr media
SO I finally decided to look on the EBF wiki, because even though I dislike most fandom wikis, this one is pretty reliable!
And it pointed out the very obvious. That THE GUY is just a reference to the Red Mage from Final Fantasy 1.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Conclusion: They are both incredibly vague and unimportant characters which means they'd be excellent to build essentially an OC on top of.

a welcome home prattle from my mind
so I've been on the Welcome Home train since last year but I never delved into theories about the website. mostly I've just searched from the side, talked to friends who also enjoyed it, and watched videos on it such as Night Mind. but! with the recent updates, I have to say I have sooooo many thoughts and ideas about it. with horror being my favorite genre and loving when I have the ability to research a website full of secrets, it was only a matter of time before I dived in.
so! if you're interested, here are some thoughts I have about the update and maybe some interesting theories.
also! some of these ideas are thanks to the many theories I've read here on tumblr as well as watched when Night Mind released his vod. also including findings as well!
Welcome Home belongs to the lovely @partycoffin! if you are new to this site, please read the credits page where you can find warnings!
stick around and get comfy, this is a long one.
so there is no perfect order this will all go in, so I will label what I will discuss in bold and then go from there.
Voice Warps
something that we are not strangers to is many audio recordings and their voice warps. from the last update, anytime someone tried talking to or about Wally, their voice would contort and the tape would end. this time, we received more vocal content (shoutout to the VAs they are incredible) and there was one in particular that me and many others caught on. Wally is known not to know much about emotions or how to express them. from my knowledge after many hours perusing Clown's blog, Wally is somewhat of a blank slate. learning as the show moves.
in the audio recording "Homewarming Storybook Record", during the end of this tape in the last two or so minutes, Wally says that he's sad and doesn't know why.
starting at 18:16, after Barnaby explains why he may be sad, Wally gets... frustrated. upset. he says in a clearly perturbed voice "...how can that be?" the audio warps during this time, almost as if his entire environment around him changed just by his own emotions.
why is this? we know Wally is somewhat the center of this puppet universe, and the moment he expresses a negative emotion, it's almost like the worlds stability was tilted.
as long as he is his normal and happy self, the world seems fine and at peace. yet, the moment he expresses his despair, it's like a switch flipped. it's only when Barnaby explains what the meaning of Housewarming is, which reassures Wally, that he returns to his happy and now relieved self.
Frank and Julie (TW: Homophobia)
this will be a much more sensitive topic to discuss, and as someone who is LGBT+ myself, it is not always a fun thing to research. but, I think this plays a super important role in the overall story of Welcome Home and my theories for the future.
another new edit I discovered, as well as something I've learned reading on the site and listening to audios, is the push for Frank to play a straight role. of course, this is the 70s we're talking about. the Stonewall Riots had only just happened in 1969, and homosexuality was still noted as a mental disorder. when the DSM-I was released, homosexuality was labelled as a sociopathic disorder until 1974. the idea of an LGBT+ relationship in a children's show would be unheard of.
with us knowing Eddie and Frank are romantically involved, that makes this all the more heartbreaking to know. Frank playing off his feelings by calling Eddie "Mr. Dear." Frank playing all the straight male roles alongside Julie. Sally calling Julie and Frank's costumes "a couples costume."
Tumblr media
I find this such an interesting thing to include because not only is it eerily accurate to the timeframe, it also makes me think.
these are puppets. fictional and unthinking puppets. costumes you could even say. a person who creates the so-called fictional world of Welcome Home can control the narrative however they please because these aren't real people! of course they can be whatever you want! so... why did they create this relationship for Eddie and Frank? could it be someone within the Playfellow studio wanted to bring more positive awareness to the topic? were the actors who voiced (in this fictional world) the characters romantically involved?
or... are these puppets alive? they have their own emotions, thoughts, opinions. we know Wally is a sentient being, I mean, he literally would talk to us through the website. he reaches out to us through links, videos, audios, and even phone calls. so, does that mean EVERYONE is sentient?
in the audio "Eddie's Big Lift Storybook Record", we even hear Frank say to Eddie, "you always did work so hard." so, did they know each other in a past life? is this representative of the real life in story (fictional) voice actors?
we'll discuss this more later.
Sally Knows Something Is Out There
this is not new, as this was from the Halloween update but I wanted to include it because I feel like it's a look into the horrors of the world.
in the audio "Happy Haunting to Boo and Yours! Storybook Record", the transcript down not catch this, but Sally goes on to explain that out in the night, something lurks and waits for prey. it crawls around at night, up walls, scratching and screeching. Sally made sure to mention to ask, "why don't we go out at night?"
with her being a star from the sky, I sometimes wonders if before coming to the neighborhood she had seen it. and if not that, she mentioned if you stay quiet and stick close to the windows you can hear it. it cannot enter homes, it eats bugs if it's starving. it seems to have eaten other "neighbors." what could "it" be? some kind of creature in the night? why is it hunting them down?
Away From Prying Eyes
from all the symbols scattered on the website and with the help of the decoder in the Merchandise tab, we end up unscrambling an address.
we discover the website https://www.awayfrompryingeyes.net/ . in this site, we get to peruse "W" and their findings. now I think I can speak for a lot of people that my initial reaction was this was Wally. of course, this was dismissed rather swiftly after realizing that 1. this person was contacted by Wally and 2. they work for the project.
one thing that caught my eye quickly was the fact that the curator of the initial website became "unwell" and no one knew why. they claimed they did not know what caused them to be so unwell, or why they "created that page."
my guess is they mean the new (or in general) Welcome Home website. the curator created the new one because of Wally's interaction with it. they are trying to keep him silent, push away any suspicion. just who might this curator be?
W explains how they became Paranoid (with a capital P) once they discovered the collection of crude drawings, texts, and videos. seems to show that they are understanding that this has gone from a simple project to a unnatural phenomena.
the phone call from Wally is him talking to You (the collective You he knows) and he seems to express loneliness. "everyone is so busy during Homewarming", and he explains how quiet it is. I think he finds You to be a way to not feel so alone, as he seems to be the only sentient puppet of the crew.
well... he used to be the only one.
Commercials For Cigarettes and Pills
in the commercials, we get an array of holiday-themed music and advertisements. of course, we'll talk about the Eddie snippets, but I found a lot of disturbance with some of these. Welcome Home is a children's show, and many of the advertisements reflect that! products like cereal, music, Wally Ball and Cup, and Mama Beagle's Barnyard Eggnog. and then it gets... odd.
adults of course can enjoy this show, but it targets a young demographic. we get a commercial for Hooplah, a cigarette brand. then a commercial for Remderem, a sleeping pill.
now, this is the 70s, so maybe this could be a poor judgement marketing goal. I would not be surprised if it was a ploy for more money, but I still just find it so interesting that a children's show would advertise these. even in the merchandise tab of the project website, there's a fake pipe that blows bubbles. it all feels highly inappropriate for a child to intake this kind of material.
well, who said Playfellow was a moral brand?
Eddie Becomes Fully Sentient
we watch in real time the moment that Eddie realizes who he is.
during the commercials video, we find Eddie Dear preparing for the holidays. he starts off with a conversation with Poppy, which moved into her saying he works too much. throughout the video, we have snippets of real-life felt puppet Eddie decorating a tree, wrapping gifts, and at one point he plays multiple solo rounds of Tik-Tac-Toe.
he is wondering why no one has come to him about delivering gifts. why has no one visited him? he gets so distressed that he even slams his felt hands on the table. why has no one come to see him?
Sally resolves this by saying they did it to give him a break (which is interesting to me seeing as she tends to not give him the time of day), and she brings him to the Homewarming party. so he's surrounded by the neighbors, and in a big chair (Wally's chair, in fact) with a single pea on a plate.
and then things get weird.
Eddie starts sweating, derealization sets in. he's shown alone, single pea on a plate in hand. Home is staring back at him, and a heartbeat can be heard along with Eddie's staggered breathing. is that Eddie's heart or... Home's?
everyone's voices are disappearing in the background, Eddie is in a panic. and then things get even weirder.
Eddie looks at his arms, and they're made of felt. he taps his fingers on the arm of chair, then grips it in fear.
then the frame switches, Sally brought Frank over (was she worried about him?) to let him know that yes, she watched Eddie in the Post Office all day. Eddie is looking at his hands and legs, which are no longer felt but illustrated again. Frank calls out for him, even by his first name, and Eddie didn't even know where he was. but finally just wanted to go home.
this was the moment, that I believe Eddie discovered that he was a puppet. and he was being watched.
I find the single pea on a plate so interesting as this is the description:
Tumblr media
"take care not to place them too close together"
why is Eddie being singled out? he was left out of many advertisements during this update, thought everyone forgot about him, and was even left out of the Homewarming story with Wally and Barnaby. they had stated they met every neighbor, but why not Eddie?
Will Eddie Be Removed?
unfortunate news seeing as he is my favorite character in the entire story (Wally and Sally a close second). I adore him, and I want nothing more than for him to remain. but I have a bad feeling he may be our first victim. he's being isolated, becoming paranoid, showing emotions that may not be seen as "neighborly."
I don't think it's any coincidence that this was an early drawing we received:
Tumblr media
I believe Playfellow is removing Eddie, or attempting to. but for what reason? because of him and Frank? because he's not needed? that's what I'm hoping to learn more about in the next updates. because let's be frank (ha, get it?), it's not looking good for our favorite country mailman.
Ghost Thoughts and Theories
now it's time for me to ramble and yap your ear off because WOW this update was my favorite by far. I think this will happen every update honestly, but I thought it would be hard to beat the last update. this was incredible, from the animation, to the voice acting, to the crafts it was all wonderfully well done. I want every characters special item from the Homewarming wishlist!.
but now, what do I think could be happening? I have two very shaky ideas. I say shaky because these could be proven wrong easily, but if one or both is not then I can continue to build on it.
1. These friendly fellas reflect reality
so one thing I thought of is that maybe they are somehow reflecting reality. I mentioned before that maybe Eddie and Frank are their fictional voice actors (not the actual ones here in our reality!) who may be in a secret relationship. could those actors reflect their characters? are they getting rid of Eddie to represent them being torn apart?
but, this is a very meh theory. reason being that we have seen these puppets are capable of sentience. they may have their own souls, thoughts, and feeling that don't reflect a real life alive person from the 70s. but, wouldn't that be interesting?
2. Eddie's sentience was real, and his soul is about to be ripped away
there's an ongoing theory I've always juggled with in my head, the idea that these puppets have souls and a conscience. I'm genuinely led to believe this because of Wally himself. he has connected with us directly from his world. some kind of alternate reality away from hours. haunting that show.
would that mean the puppets were all real and alive people at one point? or are they completely new people all together? whatever the case, they are alive but not all of them may be aware they are in a show.
well, now Eddie is and he's in trouble.
although we aren't sure if Home truly is the villain in the story, we know that Home knows Eddie has "woken up." and he does not seem happy about it. if these puppets are alive, I fear that Eddie may be erased if he can't keep quiet. taken from the narrative for not playing his part. all he had to do was be the happy and clumsy mailman, but he had to go fall for Frank. he went and started to get frustrated and negative. he's never supposed to be the angry type, he's off script.
disfunctional.
so what's next for him?
if you made it to the end, I'm glad I could keep you around! I think this update really gets the brain gears going, lots of questions we'll get answered in the future. this story is getting better by the day, and I'm thrilled to see everything that happens in the future. and I'll get to write more posts like this!
I found everything so endearing as I do every episode, and this will be a groovy ride.

I've come to the conclusion that, in my humble opinion, Higashide is the writer in TYPE-MOON who makes the best ships involving Heroic Spirits.
Which might sound really weird. After all, the central couple in Fate/Apocrypha is Sieg/Jeanne d'Arc, and it's a pretty divisive one. No offense to those who like it, but it's always a dynamic I thought made no real sense narratively and didn't have much chemistry. Sieg on his journey of self-affirmation and personhood didn't need a romance (except maybe with Astolfo, with whom the dynamic is much more fun). Jeanne, the historical figure who rejected a marriage proposal, wore male clothing, and whose famous nickname refers to her celibacy, getting into a romance just never vibed with me (especially when it felt like the parallels/relationship between her and Shirou Kotomine were far more relevant). Add to that the ending copying Last Episode without what made LE have a strong impact, and it makes the whole even less appealing.
But despite that, Apo is also the work where there is the surprising ship of Shirou Amakusa and Queen Semiramis of all people: the semi-legendary Assyrian queen credited with making one of the Seven Wonders of the ancient world falling in love with the young charismatic Japanese Christian who rebelled against the shogunate and failed. It's a very strange crossover ship between two people who never could have met if not for being brought back and it somehow works in being endearing.
(Achilles and Atalanta kinda count I guess, but it's a one-sided ship with little reasoning, that I care so little about, and is eclipsed by the more compelling foils each get, Chiron for Achilles, Jeanne for a Jackie the Ripper-driven mad Atalante.)
Higaside having grown and improved as a writer by the time of FGO, what followed this growth was him not doing a repeat of Sieg/Jeanne, but writing better ships mostly involving Servants. Asterios the Minotaur and Euryale the Gorgon; last Byzantine emperor Constantine IX and fictional Popess Johanna; heck, you can even see the relationship between Mordred and Dr. Jekyll this way (it also works as simple close friendship). Being characters from usually completely different mythologies and historical cultures, there is care done to make it clear why they fall for each other and as a result these couples are very different from one another instead of being the same formula everytime. In a game where a lot of (female) Servants are made to fall for the last Master of Chaldea for sometimes very little reason, these are a breath of fresh air.
For all my problems with her, Sakurai does something similar, though her ships are usually people who canonically were together in their legends: Sigurd/Brynhild, Aslaug/Ragnar Lodbrok, Julius Caesar/Cleopatra, Ozymandias/Nefertari, Tomoe Gozen/Kiso Yoshinaka, etc. They can be one note and there is a repeated thematic tendency of hers of writing "inhuman woman discovering humanity by falling in love", but they tend to be very cute and I easily understand that these people are in love even beyond death, so I root for them to reunite. Higashide also has "canonical" pairings, but the results are more muddled here: Siegfried and Kriemhild are adorable as a divorced couple where there are clearly still feelings, no matter what the tsundere wife says. But Rama and Sita are just...there. I understand the point of their separation, but it's not very engaging and Rama essentially disappeared after the American Singularity, while Sita was yeeted to Arcade. A mark against Higashide, but not as bad as Sieg/Jeanne and overshadowed by the numbers of better ships he wrote in FGO.
And there's Orion and Artemis, where I'm split. Super Orion and LB Artemis was really good and poignant. Orion the teddy bear and ditzy Artemis are a realy bad joke that overstayed its welcome.
FGO prioritizes Master/Servant relationships, both because the last Master of Chaldea is a blank slate for players to self insert into, and also because human×Servant is the type of ship Nasu specializes in (Shirou/Saber, Rin/Saber, Kuzuki/Caster, Caren/Angra Mainyu, and to a lesser extent Bazett/Cu, Yukika/False Assassin, and Ayako/Medusa in FSN; Fate/Extra as a whole; Ritsuka/Castoria in FGO). But even there Higashide made better choices than when he penned Sieg/Jeanne. Charlotte Corday is a surprisingly well-done choice for her archetype, it seems like it's going to be another Kiyohime but no, he actually makes her a good character you get attached to.
And then there is Kadoc and Anastasia. Words cannot describe how much I love them, how their personalities clash and complement each other in the best way, how aesthetically good they look put next to each other, etc. And it's not even just that we got a MasterxServant relationship outside Ritsuka, though that helped.
Basically, Higashide has become my go-to source for good ships, especially intra-Servants ones where Ritsuka is not involved and characters are allowed to not orbit around their Master. Sakurai also provides in that last aspect, but Higashide is doing that and also giving that crossover flavor you see in things like that one Cartoon Network ad with Johnny Bravo and Velma, and that works really well for me.

How do you imagine Draco and Hermione physically? We know he’s white blonde and she’s curly haired but do you have a specific hairstyle for them? Is Draco muscular or leaning on lanky? Is Hermione tall or short and voluptuous
So . . . DHr has a passionate love affair with the "What do you absolutely hate in a fic?" thread across multiple platforms, and if you read just one or two of them you discover there's truly nothing you can do that won't make a great many people despise your fic and probably you (other than make Hermione flawless—by all means give her Johann Goethe's mind and a runway body). Some readers get legitimately angry when you violate their personal headcanons, and readers have strong feelings around the way these characters look. I've tried to leave Hermione in particular a bit of a blank slate for this reason, even though I have a fan cast I adore. It is not Emma Watson.
But, with extreme caution, my personal headcanons under the cut:
I have a loved one with curly hair who struggles tremendously with their hair texture despite doing everything "right" to manage it, and I headcanon Hermione's hair as a similar forever war. I feel that's supported by canon. It's not a bird's nest, she keeps it clean and trimmed and styled, but it behaves differently at various points in her hormonal cycle, suddenly decides it hates previously useful products, and goes frizzy in humidity. That sort of thing. I think she'd keep it a practical medium length and wear it up/back a lot. She'd use make-up well, dress neatly and with style, get her nails done, all of that.
I see her as about the average height of a British woman, 5'5"/165cm, with a moderately curvy build on an average frame. I think she'd be fit, but also treat exercise the same way she would tooth brushing: something vitally important to her health that she gets out of the way so she can move on to other, more interesting parts of her day. She's 100% the person at work who brings a chicken salad for lunch every day, but also see her loving food just as much as literally every other human being I know.
Draco's a little easier, because unless people are in the tall/small size kink camp that was super active for a while there, they seem comfortable with a Draco described somewhere in the neighborhood of average British male height, which is 5'10"/178cm. My headcanon is that he's a little bit tall, maybe 5'11"/180cm or 6'0"/182cm. Because he's canonically an athlete and canonically self-important, I picture him as having a lean Seeker build and taking care to maintain it.
And that's about it! I don't intend any of this to be a correct answer. They're my personal preferences and headcanons, not directives. I hope everyone finds loads of fic where their beloved characters match what they see in their heads and use the exit button liberally when they don't. 💜

Good morning Sflow :)
For the ask game I'd love to hear your thoughts about these two, if you feel like answering (no pressure though!):
🍭why did you start writing?
🌿how does creating make you feel?
Thank you. Wishing you a lovely day! <3
Good evening, friend 💛
I saved your ask for last because these are both really deep questions, and I've actually spent a lot of time reflecting on them today, especially the first one. So, exactly the kind I'd expect from you, and they deserve the kind of rambling personal answers you know to expect from me.
I'll put a cut here to make it easier for people to scroll on if they aren't interested, but of course anyone who is interested is welcome to read my answers!
🍭why did you start writing?
I guess the short answer is, as a creative outlet. But there is also a very long answer, as I've started writing several times over the course of my life.
On the first time, I started for my little brother. We played a lot of imagination games when we were kids, and I wanted to expand on those. We had an imaginary world with about two dozen characters but could only play a few of them at the same time, the stories were 'lost' when the game ended, and I had too many ideas anyway. So I started drawing and writing some of them down. This first phase went on from age 9 to 14 or so.
On the second time (overlapping the first), I started for narrative closure. A video game that I was completely obsessed with had a sad ending, so I wrote another. It was fun, so I went on to another story I wanted to continue, characters I wanted to expand on, and so on. I wrote most of these in my English notebook, for which I also got extra credit and feedback from my English teacher.
After a couple of years of just writing in my notebook, I discovered that I was doing a thing called fan fiction, and there were places to put it online. So I started doing that. Eventually, I got an original idea, and I wrote a story of about 50k and even started a sequel. This second phase lasted from age 13 to 19/20.
Then I started at uni. Life got in the way, and my creativity was gone. I never finished the sequel, and even when I eventually got obsessed with a new piece of media and tried to write something for it, I just couldn't get anything coherent down. I eventually took down all my old fics too, thinking that chapter of my life was closed for good. This phase lasted until I watched Young Royals at the age of 33.
On the third time, I started as an outlet for my suddenly reborn creativity - and my still very fragile ace identity. I found the rich world of YR incredibly inspiring and wanted to continue the story (as we didn't even know if there would be an S2). I also really wanted to contribute something to the fandom that was growing around it, but I didn't have the confidence or the ideas to focus on Wilmon.
Well, as luck would have it, there was a veritable blank slate of a minor character who would be perfect for a canon expansion and even gave me a vague ace vibe for some reason. And if I made him asexual, well, figuring out how he felt about various stuff would be a good excuse to work on myself on the side. I wasn't sure if I actually had the guts to make that part of his characterisation visible in the fic, and he'd have to be very different from me as I never liked self-inserts, but yeah. That could be interesting.
I'm still in this third phase, although the self-reflection has taken a backseat now.
🌿how does creating make you feel?
It's hard to describe. One part of it is just plain relief, because it gets to a point where you really just need an outlet for all the creative energy. One part is this huge sense of accomplishment and satisfaction over seeing the thing you imagined and planned come together. It was just something you cooked up in your head, and now it's out there, making sense. Or at least being its own aesthetic/artistic entity. Either way, you did it, wow.
And of course one part is the joy of knowing that people enjoyed something you made and/or it touched them. I had sort of forgotten about that while I wasn't writing, and I'm very grateful to have experienced it again.
Thank you again for these wonderful asks!
Ask list for reference.

ask game! 10 19 and 27 pls
oh hello! you went straight for the personal ones huh lmao
10. one secret about yourself?
trying to discover my SECRETS huh. too bad!!! i am not going to share any real secrets...but honestly one secret that everyone on my little tumblr blog already knows abt me is my pronouns lmao the only person irl who knows is my twin bc i can't really come out in my current environment. and my plan is just to move to a city i haven't lived in before when i move back to the u.s. so that i can introduce myself with a blank slate and probably just...never come out to the rest of my family lmao. so congratulations tumblr followers u are all in on the secret!
19. how’s your relationship with your parents? any siblings?
i love my parents and i'd say i have a good relationship with both my mom and my dad but. it can get complicated sometimes. they visited me this summer and having them around for two weeks brought up...more religious trauma than anticipated lmao.
and yes, i have three siblings! my older brother and sister are six and a half years older, so they weren't really around a ton while i was growing up, but i've gotten closer with my older sister as adults and she's a person i look up to a lot. i'm not as close with my brother just because he's very like. emotionally constipated and conservative in similar ways to my parents, so.
and then there's my twin who is my best friend in the whole world <3 like genuinely if you don't have a twin it's hard to explain the bond; she's just like the person who has literally always been there throughout my life and knows everything about me and like...idk i can't imagine life without a twin i honestly think it would suck so much. and i mean like it's not like being a twin is automatically gonna make you super close--my older brother and sister definitely have a much more distant relationship. but me and my twin DO have that kind of bond <3 this past year has been the first time we've ever lived apart and it's been strange!
27. how do you think you’ll die?
god will smite me for becoming too sexy and powerful

HOW DID YOU GET SO TALENTED AT DRAWING?!!
Your Cad Bane is amazing. <3
Like, seriously. Everything of him I see that is your doing makes me go gaga.
I know that's sort of a dumb question, but you are very talented. Alternatively, what draws you to Cad Bane?
As cliché as it might sound, it's a lot of practicing, studying and observing. I've been drawing for as long as I can remember, and I've always been fascinated by two things: Anatomy and animation. I spent many hours staring at and learning how things look, move, attach, ect while also being very drawn to the expression achieved in 2D animation. The result has been my semi realism style which is also one of the hardest to pull off. Sometimes I wish I'd just picked one or the other lmao. But I am very happy with the response that my art gets and it keeps my motivated to keep working at it. Seeing my Cad Bane drawings from a year ago til now has been fascinating. I've grown a lot.
What drew me to Cad Bane at first was probably what drew us all to him: he's fucking cool. Unrestrained, intelligent, resourceful, rarely loses. His design is genius, expressive, simple yet not, iconic, and just very fun. His personality is someone who is very confident, calm, and in charge. Not to mention he has a voice that absolutely melts me. I could be in the middle of a breakdown and he'd just have to say "Yer alright" and I'd calm down immediately.
I discovered Cad Bane at a time when I really needed something to hold on to. He's a bit of a blank slate character in that his backstory and personal life is unknown, which makes him very fun to work with. I have met a lot of cool, fun people over the years through this small fandom and it's brought me a lot of joy.
Exploring this character has given me things I didn't know I needed. I watched the entire Dollar Trilogy and now Few Dollars More is one of my favorite movies ever. I play Red Dead Redemption most days because it's both calming and gives me story ideas and concepts for him. I also have a Cad Bane tattoo on my wrist. It's my first and only tattoo and I love it.

Honestly? Valid, cats are above names they come when they believe their presence is needed. Good to hear there is at least no extreme weather. Cats are built strong so I believe your cat is thriving and will be back soon..
Also, tumblr mobile? Trash. I say this as someone who usually only uses tumblr on my phone, absolutely no reason to be this cluttered and bad. For some reason it also limits what you can do to your profile?? Absolutely horrid set up 👊😔
In other news though, I have settled on what I’m going to do with this blank slate blog. I’m mixing two ideas, tracking my interests/fics that I like and tracking my afterthoughts on the many books I own. That would include books I have read way to many times haha (looking at you Harry Potter and Percy Jackson) but it will just be a fun little thing to do. I also changed my user! First/Last Line Tag Game
Thanks for the tag, rosiewritesandrambles! Taking these from yesterday's chapter VI.
First line:
An arm, extended. Bearing a flower. The shadow it cast below was still greyed-out, was still hushed. Silent in its eternity. And, sharp eyes following those petals to the tip, the flower in time became the arm.
Last line:
Now, two hundred years away in time, change was proving fickle. Even to the one it'd let hold it, who'd lent it his stained red wings.
Tagging whenever and if you want: starry-sky-stuff, talesofsorrowandofruin, notwritinganyflufftoday and avaeverstone. Otherwise, open tag as always!

Bucket List 2
sleepy-night-child thanks for the tag, nightfriend🥰 somehow I have more titles for these than yesterday's batch haha. Except for Season of the Moths, the rest I only kinda see as worldbuilding and plot pieces I can extract for other wips. But who knows
Waterwillow. Most of the world has been submerged in water. There's a war between his isle-state and an underwater faction, and at the height of the war, someone infiltrates into their territory and the General is the one to take the shot. He miraculously survives, but wakes up many months later and will never be able to fight again. The war is taking a turn for the worse; unwilling to sit by and wait to be drowned, he undertakes a journey to explore the acid waters in the North. Maybe, just maybe he can find a way past them and help his people flee the war. But even in his heyday, he hadn't been a good swimmer.
The Hallowed Kingdom. This was my attempt at writing a fairytale, I've always wanted to do one of those^^, and got through a quarter of it but it was getting a bit long. What makes the kingdom hallowed is that every person is born with a clear trope and purpose, written down into the Library on their birth. That way, life can only be monotonous and peaceful. But when someone intrudes into the kingdom, of course, they have a blank slate. And soon after, he discovers exactly what happens to those who don't follow their story. The resident mortician buries them in a coffin and sets them on a journey on the river out of the kingdom to be on their way:) (it's not a comedy 🤣)
Season of the Moths. This was a side novel to my previous wip series, and even if I benched it forever... Harvest remains one of the best characters I've ever written and I love him to bits haha. He wakes up from death one day many centuries after he died. When he returns home, he doesn't recognize anything. But that would've been fine. What's worse, is that the original Season of Winter, the one who killed him in the first place, is the first face to greet him.
Rendered. Local convict escapes being hanged because so it happens that at the same time a bloodthirsty god refuses to be killed and breaks free. In order not to be killed on the spot, the man promises to be his follower and that he'll help him with everything. Along the way they get closer, but time comes when the god loses his senses, and it's up to his friend to save him. Of course, life's never that easy. Good thing he gets ressurected every time he's killed by his god's hand, or else he really would've turned into a ghost just to haunt the bastard.
Unnamed again. So three reformed dark wizards have to prove that they really have switched to the good side. The catch is, none of them know that the others are in the same boat. They're overseen by a dwarf and his son, and without being told, they're used as guard dogs to safekeep one very important item that in any other circumstances would've had their eyes twinkling with greed. But right now, they have to play house, and they have to play nice
Leaving this one open for whoever didn't get the chance to do it yet and wants to:)

Last Lines Tag Game
Thanks a lot for the tag, talesfromaurea!<3 here's me carefully extracting some lines that haven't steeped in spoilers haha
And the night, it was so dark. Should he look out of the window, press his nose against the glass, he wouldn't catch a wink of light. If not for the patches where starlight fell, shattering the gloom.
He'd said, if the stars breathed out, with how warm they were, all the world would only feel like winter. So their breaths would fog on its windows, and that's how they splashed on the ground.
Her smile reached her eyes, and she let out a small sigh.

20 & 13 for the writing ask! 👀
[writing ask meme]
20. where do you begin a WIP? ex: a mood, a scene, a certain character dynamic, etc. does this differ per project?
Alright, so I'm going to answer this in two parts since one-shots and longfic differ significantly for me.
With one-shots, it's a lot easier. It's usually just a general idea, like "oh I wonder what would happen if Character A and B did xyz" and then I run with it. Or a mood or a concept, like expanding on Itachi and Izumi's relationship in the context of the Uchiha massacre in A Thousand Times Yes. Prompts are also really helpful with this to give me a solid starting point.
Longfic is a little trickier. The Scarecrow and The Bell started out as a series of one-shots exploring the relationship dynamic between Kakashi and my OC Rei, that later evolved into a more chronological story. When I started, my initial thought was inspired by the episode with Hanare and the kids kind of questioning their sensei's love life and feeling sorry for him that he seems to not have a girlfriend, only to discover he's been hiding one from them all this time. And slowly, as the story has progressed, the readers have gotten to know Rei better alongside everyone else. And once the story became more chronological, it was a matter of what kinds of things I wanted to see Rei and Kakashi experience as a couple. The story fits into the timeline of the series but the current arcs take place in those years between Naruto and Naruto Shippuden so I've had a lot more free reign. I really wanted to explore the way that a character like Rei, a member of the ANBU black ops, might view and experience the world from this unique perspective as we're going through the main story events but also put her and Kakashi through things, together and separately, to test their relationship and explore the way they'd respond and react, and how those accumulating events contribute to the greater story and why they proceed to do the things that they do in the long run. This is admittedly a little bit easier with Rei because she's a blank slate and I don't have canon to try and comply with but I can use her as a vessel to try and patch up some plot holes, as well, like why Kakashi calls his mangekyo his "new" sharingan at the beginning of Shippuden if he got it when he was ~12 from Rin's death. So in terms of longfic, there's a lot that goes into it but I ultimately try to break it up into smaller pieces and take it one chapter at a time kind of like one shots so I don't get super overwhelmed. I think of a broader concept that I want to explore, like Rei's mental health journey, and then break it up into pieces so I approach it chronologically like "okay this is going to be the inciting incident, we're going to have these chapters see her gradually spiral, and then this is going to be the breaking point, the following chapter will be the climax of her struggle, and then the next chapters will focus on the aftermath" or something to that effect. I kind of just carve the story out starting with broad ideas and slowly refining until I'm at a place where I'm satisfied.
13. describe your writing style.
I want to say my writing style is sort of descriptive? I like to anchor my writing in things that are "tactile." I like being able to physically feel the words, so to speak. It's always been really satisfying for me to write things that are heavily sensory, especially when it comes to a sense of touch or physicality. I really struggle with balancing the descriptive and the straightforward, though. I don't want my prose to read like a list of "He did this. She said that. Blah blah blah" but I also don't want it to be too purple, either. I don't know, I guess even now, after so many years of writing and an actual degree in English, I still struggle to pin down my writing style and balance things out in a way that doesn't feel too amateur and makes me cringe.
Of course, all of that said, when I still think I suck, I go back and look at the first longfic I ever completed in 2014 and then I don't feel so bad.

I'm thinking of applying to UWC and I'm so nervous. I've always wanted to study abroad, and start somewhere new and I think UWC is the best way I can do that. I'm still unsure which specific college I'm applying to. Any advice for the application process?
Hello there!
I’ll address your points one by one:
1. Studying abroad/starting somewhere new
UWC will absolutely help you do that :) it’s an opportunity to discover who you are when you strip away culture and history. At UWC everyone has a blank slate. But remember, eventually, you have to return to the real world. It’s only two very short years.
2. Which college to apply to
So the colleges are VERY different from one another. Some are academically rigorous to the point of being cut-throat competitive, and others barely care about academics at all. Some emphasize wilderness and backpacking (USA), and others emphasize marine biology (Pearson). The best way to find out particulars surrounding a specific school is to a) Ask people who have attended and b) scour their websites. When I applied, I made a table of which subjects and programs were offered at the different schools, and at which schools they were absent.
3. Advice for the application process
This differs from national committee to national committee, BUT I can give you a couple pieces of advice that will apply no matter where you come from: a) If you are passionate about your position in the world and what you can do with it, let it show. During your interview, let a smile spread across your face, let your eyes light up, show them how you feel. It will be infectious, and they’ll know you’re there for the right reasons. b) You want to return to your country and make it a better place. UWC educates too many students that just end up studying at American or Western European universities, and never return home to contribute. They make beautiful lives for themselves, but don’t further the UWC mission. Think about how you would take your place as a UWC alum, and what you would use it for.
Feel free to ask me any other questions you might have :) I’m more than happy to answer!

Bleeding Out - WIP update
I am currently three chapters in and thought I'd update you on them! They're pretty short (about 2000-2500 words each).
—; prologue
Mint has just woken up after a long time — he doesn't know where he is, what he is, or who he is anymore. He hitches a lift into Blackerwick from an unknowing driver.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
—; chapter one
Rowan is being attention seeking in school and back-chatting with her teacher. We learn that she doesn't conform, likes to stand out, and is impulsive. She gets a detention.
Here’s her being bored;
She slumps into the chair and waits, watching the seconds hand circle the white rimmed clock face over and over again. Its captive arms, relentlessly swirling and aching—in need of a break—suck her into a monochrome world. A futile existence.
She doesn’t want to go home after her detention, and pushes through the dense forests to reach the ocean on the other side of it. Here, I did some world building talking about the dull town and its residents;
Everything about the sleepy town Rowan had grown up in is soaked in a distinct achromatic despondency. Inland residents slumped and slogged in their routines, never caring to change them, almost afraid of living.
and then went on to contrast it with the wild landscape;
Dark, densely populated forests encircle much of the landscape – moors and rolling hills – surrounding Blackerwick, and right till the shoreline, moss and weeds tangle their way in matted clumps to meet the murky, frothing waters; a rabid animals tongue slathering itself against land.
She talks with the ocean, in an odd scene. I’ve shared some of that previously though. :)
When she returns home her dad is sitting in the dark, seemingly unaware of his surroundings. To get his attention (are we noticing a pattern with Rowan? Poor baby) she pretends to have a migraine. We establish the weird father/daughter relationship, her dad only really bothering about her if she’s unwell. As he’s getting some pills, she gets a nosebleed. (a lil peek into her haemophilia)
She wheezes and sputters, the world spinning as she lurches toward the sink, clinging on to the cool draining board to keep her balance. The world has turned red. The four walls of the kitchen, red. Her blurring vision, red. Everything bleeding like her tongue between her teeth as she fights off the impulse to say something. She wants to scream, or throw up, dizzied as her world tilts upside down. Her skull rests in her father’s strong palm, a fleshy safety net.
Rowan tells her dad that she gets nosebleeds often and shows him deep bruises that got there randomly, he tells her that he'll get her a GP appointment the next day.
The chapter ends with Rowan being disappointed that her father is the same blank slate as he often is the next morning;
Her dad was making the house cold again. It’s not the first not-quite-morning she’s come down to find him standing in the open doorway staring vacantly at the garden, but he is today; absentminded in the chill breeze.
“You’re letting all the heat out.” Her voice is sharp in the muted kitchen, the dull peeling grey (once white) paint reeling at her unusually awake voice. Even the birdsong stutters in the air.
He doesn’t hear; he doesn’t even turn around.
She slips out toward the forest she loves so much.
Tumblr media
—; chapter two
Ok! So! We are now in Mint's "point of view", or rather, the third person follows his thread. For now he is named Frog (he doesn't know anything yet).
He's looking for a something to eat. A ~snacc~, if you will. He catches sight of Rowan, thinking about hunting her. He changes his mind pretty quickly.
He trails his eyes over the seam of her calf to her heel, wondering, again, why her camouflage doesn't match the woods. Why the wheat tinted membrane floats about her, easily ruffled by the breeze.
He finds a clearing as he scampers off, disturbed by the creatures appearance. (Humans? What are we? Weird bags of flesh?) He's still hungry and prowling. He finds a deer and kills it. (There's a lot more in between bits...)
Tumblr media
Stags legs buckle beneath it's bulk, eyes leaking from vitreous silver into an obsidian black and beginning to resemble the pool Frog had been searching for. Before the blade. Before the murderous intent had simmered in his brain.
It's crown tumbles to the soil, antlers embedding deep into the foliage at Frogs feet. He sits beside it, stroking the un-bloodied fur of its forehead, holding its unblinking, waxy glare. Frog is the victor. (...)
Frog slides the blade down the forehead he had soothed, revealing oozing muscle and bone. Peeling away the thick membrane enshrouding Stag's skull, with tender interest, Frog carves muscle and fat from its head, pellucid and opaline, dropping the pale crumbs of carcass onto the ground. The deers dense ghost is not yet cold in his crimson tinted hands.
This is for sure my favourite extract of the first three chapters so far. I have been writing this novel very messily, and my other favourite is going to be slotted in near the end of the book. Unfortunately I won't be sharing that any time soon. :(
Any-who! I wrote the hunting scene and weird skinning part during a 25 minute writing sprint and got so much done—which was a wonderful feeling, especially since I'd been avoiding the scene and had never done a sprint before. I've been doing them whenever I get stuck and it really helps! I feel like it forces me to tackle anything I'm shying away from which is very helpful. (Plus, I'm competitive, so the global sprints speed up my pace a bit. All I need to do afterwards is edit, but also? I got in the flow really quickly because of it and I didn't have to make *too* many edits!) Overall, it was a really great experience and I'm so glad I discovered that technique!
The chapter ends on Rowan again, frozen as she realizes she was being watched.
I was gonna post a chapter three update but decided against it! The post would get too long because there’s a section in it I wanna share but don’t wanna bore y’all. Hope you enjoyed this!! :)

games i've been playing recently vol. 2
more post drought means more games i haven't been beating or can't beat!
sea of thieves
this game rules. i played 30 hours in like 5 days. i have trouble really describing it, but the easiest i can think of is "darkrp if the map was giant and rdm was allowed." that of course ignores just how much pve there is and the whole boat aspect, but in how you tend to interact with people i think it's apt. my favorite thing about this game is that there's very little in terms of permanent progression. people who've played for 1000 hours and people who've played for 5 are basically on the same playing field (outside of raw skill/game knowledge) because each new session is a blank slate where you have to build up your resources again. there aren't any rpg elements to contend with, no gear to make you better at combat, just pure simple piracy. i haven't played it as much in the past week, but i'm hoping to get back on the boat (no pun intended) soon. bonus: here's some great stories from me playing
digimon story: cyber sleuth
i put a little time into this one, but frankly i don't think i'm in much of an rpg mood at present, so i shelved it. this game made me hate digimon designs even more because any time i caught a cute/charming guy i would look him up and find his final form is some awful bullshit. also switch performance is really bad but it's an RPG so whatever
slay the spire
i discovered that the steam link app is really good for playing slay the spire and have been playing it in bed when the mood strikes me. i like deckbuilding so this game naturally appeals to me a lot. however, it has the problem in roguelikes where you feel super underpowered after losing a run perhaps harder than most, which can make repeat playthroughs less enticing. still will probably be a timewaster game i come back to repeatedly
panzer bandit
i'm just playing all the games with panzer in the title this year, huh? this is a guardian heroes "clone" of sorts for the ps1, though calling it a clone would be somewhat of a disservice as this game's designer, masatoshi imaizumi, was one of two designers on the game mad stalker, along with guardian heroes' masaki ukyo. mad stalker was the gameplay basis for yu yu hakusho makyo toitsusen, and later guardian heroes, as well as the basis for asuka 120%. so it's almost more like 2 different takes on the same old game. unfortunately, panzer bandit is no guardian heroes. while it looks and feels great, there's maybe 5 total enemy types and no branching paths, so repeat attempts of the game upon running out of continues really let the repetition sink in. i got a game over on the last level and don't really intend to return to it for a long time.
ultra fight da! kyanta 2
this is the most fucked up irradiated toxic waste fighting game ever made. it's really good. i play a team of hatoyan and tsukinami and my gameplan is to build to full meter with hatoyan and mash my 5EX as tsukinami. this strategy is remarkably effective, yet still often loses to my girlfriend bel's, which is to build meter with anna and dump it with azuma-deka, a character with a fullscreen frame 0 super that does about half health and combos into itself. this is a stupid game. but it's a lot of fun, and i look forward to playing it more.
yu yu hakusho: makyo toitsusen
"oh look sienna's talking about that yu yu hakusho game again," i hear you cry. well, yeah. in the last post where i talked about this, i mentioned that i got discouraged from pursuing it further, despite my enjoyment, by its lack of a community. i changed my mind, though and am now attempting to put something together; you probably won't see it until early 2021, but i've been putting in some work to give this game something, because i love it a lot. here's some videos of tech and things i've discovered, either through playing or while writing down frame data. maybe it'll inspire you to check it out for yourself? please?
