this is still one of my all-time favorite pieces of artwork on a card. you notice the angry minotaur winding up for an attack first... and then it registers that the shadows around the edges are actually vines overgrowing his form, and then you realize that's a bird perched on his horn. because he's been frozen in time for that long. Drew Tucker is one of the few remaining MTG artists from the "old guard" that gets to ignore the modern photorealism style guide in favor of their own instantly recognizable style because they've been illustrating cards for longer than the average MTG player has been alive - Phil and Kaja Foglio (they're married!) are another good example. Seb McKinnon and Terese Nielsen used to be examples of this before COVID-times but unfortunately they both contracted acute shitheaditis and started posting about how the Ottawa Trucker Convoy was right or denying that they're a TERF right before sending free signed artwork to a TERF podcast, respectively

it's been pointed out on here before that a lot of terf arguments are actually rooted in sexist idealology that feminists fought and died to unnormalise decades ago and that's its own kettle of fish but one thing i also find very frustrating about this so called 'radical' feminism is that it's so... defeatist? like the moment you categorically label an entire section of society as Bad and Inherently Evil then there's also the implication that nothing can be done about it, and it completely takes all accountability away. saying all men are evil is just another way of saying boys will be boys. he raped her because he's a man. he hit her because he's a man. he didn't listen because he's a man - it's almost offensively oversimplified. there's no point trying to fix this issue in society because men are just Like That, okay! so now what? it's not like they're going anywhere, so you just accept that 50% of the population are evil and will forever treat you terribly and there's nothing to be done about it bc they're biologically predisposed to it? like is that fr the argument here? you're soooo radical for that
#this is coming from someone who used to very genuinely be a misandrist#ironically it was only when i started actually analysing my own feminism that i got MORE confrontational with men#and started respecting my boundaries a lot better BECAUSE i started holding them accountable again#like when men treat me like shit nowadays i dont just write it off as 'what did you expect? he's a man' i get MAD about it#because i EXPECT BETTER FROM THEM even if it's just tiny shit women have to deal with daily#i hold them to just as high a standard as im held to and i make them take accountability when they dont meet that#and whether you realise it or not even on a subconscious level the MOMENT you black-and-white blanket statement all men as bad#you stop holding them accountable.#like it is literally just boys will be boys. do terfs seriously not realise they're sending feminism BACKWARDS#like if a girl came to me with her trauma and people - other girls no less - tried to comfort her with 'yeah all men are evil'#id be fucking furious. like no he did that because he was a piece of shit that had it normalised to him that women arent to be respected#dont you dare let him off the hook with something as simple and uncritical as 'he's a man'#i promise you men like that will MUCH prefer a blanket statement such as 'all men are as bad as each other'#than actually being point blank told they're an abuser or a rapist. because being lumped together is comfortable and even empowering#wheras isolating their behaviour with words that are Bad and Ugly (LIKE 'rapist') is not comfortable at all and has heavy connotations#idk i dont think radical feminism is always bad on its own it can be v liberating. just terfs and misandrists that i have a problem with#dropping this post in a piranha tank and closing tumblr knowing im gonna have some thirty year old karen yelling at me within 5 mins#i probably wont respond to any terf comments bc they literally mentally exhaust me with their stupidity#but that also depends on my mood and ability to keep my mouth shut LMFAO we shall see

baby's first hate anon!
but just for anyone confused, or maybe uneducated, the disdain for the state of Israel comes not from antisemitism, but from their unethical colonialism and genocide of Palestinian people. Many Jewish people have shown their support of palestine, it is not antisemitic to support Gaza. However, if one were to discriminate against jewish people because of what the state of Israel is doing in Gaza, that would be antisemitic.

do you think that captain marvel plays off his using kids slang as part of him being omnilingual? better yet, imagine that he thinks that it doesn’t count but it actually does and he only finds out years later
i dont really have much to add to this but yeah
Oh I 1000% believe knowing slang/kids slang counts as part of his omnilingualism.
I see the reasoning behind this being that with omnilingualism comes the ultimate understanding of all languages and the ability to decipher them. With language comes formal and casual conversations and alternative versions of words that generations have created due to changes in society, environment and the eras/time. Slang and kids slang are all a part of the art of languages, so i see that it makes perfect sense for Captain Marvel to be able to understand them.
Adding onto that, if Captain Marvel's omnilingualism didn't include understanding of slang terms, then I believe Billy's influence as the vessel included those additional parts in the power. It's a little headcanon of mine that the mortal behind the power of the "Mightiest Mortal" is able to influence the powers they gain with their personality flare/unique identity. Since Billy is a homeless street kid, that left him more susceptible to hearing slang words from other people on the streets, mainly teens and kids from skateparks and parks (where he hangs out sometimes because no one will question him for being homeless there among other kids).
As for the slang words expansion pack not belonging at all to his omnilingualism and is in fact just Billy being a kid, then that would also be a barrel of fun to see! I can easily see members of the Justice League asking Captain Marvel what certain words their sidekicks/children text them, asking him to translate for them.
Green Latern (Hal): Hey, Cap, you're pretty immature right? By any chance do you know what "rizz" and "finstas" mean? We're trying to tell what this text means.
Captain Marvel (Billy, a little offended): First of all, harsh, didn't have to shade me like the dark side of the moon like that, but okay, go off, Salt Lantern. Second of all, bet, fam, say less.
Green Arrow (Oliver, feeling old): Oh God, did anyone even understand that?
Captain Marvel: Chillax, dude! Don't go crying in spanish.
Everyone else:

sorry to say but if you think there's no jewish people talking about racism, islamphobia, and condemning israel's actions in palestine then you just have never talked to a jew in your life and probably only see jewish people in screenshots for "zionist blocklists" and black and white documentaries about the holocaust. most every single jewish person I know is involved in some way or another in social justice, especially regarding racism & islamphobia. yes of COURSE there's racist and islamphobic jews, just like every single other demographic on the planet has shitty people in it, but just deciding that Not A Single Jew Ever has an issue w racism, islamphobia, or the bombing of gaza is Genuinely insane and just shows ur ass.

Wiiirrreeee, is there a swamp on theia?
Oh absolutely!
Tumblr media
A very large portion of the lower east convex vertex in the focus continent is just a bunch of swampland. Along the rivers are a bit less stagnant but much older swampland, whereas the vast majority of land is stagnant overflood. Most of the water and plant life in the area is heavily endowed with the same magical essence you can find north west of the region, where Michael & his friends live.
A lot of the terrain is not considered habitable by most, and it's in these regions that you find a lot of plant people, treeple, fish people, pixies, or any other race that's heavily in tune with the earth & water.

I know people talk about Shirakumo/Kurogiri being Aizawa’s villain and stuff, but I keep thinking; why exactly is it always Mic waking Shirakumo/Kurogiri up?
I mean, he’s the last one to yell his name before the mist reveals the body underneath in Tartarus, and just this last chapter, Mic is the only one of the two (between himself and Aizawa) who yet again woke Shirakumo/Kurogiri up
Tumblr media Tumblr media
( ^ wakes up directly after Mic says his name)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
( ^ wakes up as Spinner AND Mic speak to him)
Not only that, but we also have Aizawa saying IN CANON that he was unable to wake Shirakumo/Kurogiri up (right after he asked Monoma to copy the warp quirk)
Tumblr media
I’m thinking - what is the connection? Why was it Mic both times?
Is there something we’re missing here? Who exactly was Mic to Shirakumo? Also, who was Shirakumo to Mic?
It occurs to me that we’ve only got the side of the trio’s story from Aizawa’s perspective. That’s not to say it ALL focuses on Aizawa specifically (we do see Mic’s reactions after all), but just that, Aizawa has been shown to be the most torn up about Shirakumo, and he’s the one who has such a bold reaction to Shirakumo/Kurogiri in Tartarus (showing him the goggles, declaring they’ll be Heroes again, etc)
So what about Mic’s feelings? What about Shirakumo himself?
I wonder if there’s going to be more to it all, or if we’ll get more on Mic and Shirakumo’s relationship specifically at some point, their connection and such
It’s just a little suspicious

There's something that infuriates me so much about people mocking characters that fall into the "not like other girls" trap, because the reasons girls take on that stance is because they exist in a society that tries to put womanhood and femininity in a restrictive box that tells them who and how they should be.
They're generally mocked and derided for not wishing to conform to stereotypical femininity, but when they lash out in entirely predictable but ultimately unhelpful ways (by being dismissive and rude about other women and femininity in general) instead of understanding that it's a product of growing up in a society that's restricting them and punishing them for not conforming (either by choice or inability) so many people who claim to be feminists choose to mock them or make them out to be the cause of the problem rather than a symptom. Whether its being mocked in real life, or watching people deride the fictional characters they relate to, this behaviour just alienates those girls even further into thinking that the issue is other women, and confirms their belief that women who are typically feminine will only ever be derisive toward them and that they're somehow fundamentally different from other women.
If you know someone who thinks along those "I'm not like other girls" lines instead of mocking them try directing them towards resources that can help them understand where that harmful rhetoric comes from, and when you're critiquing characters that fit that mold try to consider why they behave that way, and what girls who see themselves in those characters take from your commentary.

ttpd thoughts
for the record, i'm not trying to be like. purposely hateful or anything, i'm just so deeply disappointed with her. this last year has been a mess and she's repeatedly acted in ways that, at the very least, rub me in the wrong way and at their worst have disgusted me and made me lose so much respect for/faith in her. miss americana has become a piece of performance art rather than any sort of meaningful activism.
she made a very public display of dating/hooking up with a bigot and basically said "fuck you, i do what i want" in response to valid criticism and then tried to smooth it over by working with one of the women he'd called slurs. almost every time she spoke this year, whether in an interview or through tree, she reinforced my worry that she views herself as untouchable and that any sort of negativity or criticism directed toward her should be discounted because she's an "underdog" and a woman, despite the fact that there are very real issues with her words and actions. and don't get me started on everything with football guy and his trump-loving ass.
she is absolutely allowed to do, say, date, fuck, etc. anyone and anything she wants. she can write songs about all of it. she can do damage control and pr and control the narrative however she chooses. she can run smear campaigns and drag names through the mud while maintaining she's the perpetual victim when she's arguably the one with the most power in any given situation. i can appreciate that fame presents a set of challenges that i will never experience or fully comprehend.
but i'm also allowed to have my opinions on it, especially when so much of it is so heavily publicized. there is so much we will never know and there is also so much we do know that we never should have. pretty much since eras was announced, she's become so deeply oversaturated and it went from being cool to see so much hype and getting a new album and new re-recordings to feeling like everything is about money and breaking records. it's become a machine, a content factory, and so many decisions feel rushed, incomplete, and incongruent. it doesn't feel like there's been real thought about the material itself and instead it's become about aesthetics and sensationalism.
i think that's why i'm so frustrated right now and it's highly likely that these albums will grow on me or at least some of the songs. i've been listening to the 12 songs i liked on repeat since i finished my initial run through each album and i already like them even more. but i wish that it could truly just be about the music for me. that's what's always been most meaningful to me about taylor is her lyricism and the stories she tells through her songs. but knowing everything i know and having seen everything i've seen over the past year, it's tainted my perception of the albums and the songs on them.
i think that taylor has a lot of growing to do as a person. i've heard people say that sometimes celebrities are frozen at the age they became famous and i think that really shows in taylor's case. the irony of a song being titled "so high school" was certainly not lost on me. a lot of her phrasing feels very juvenile, just as her treatment of joe and everything surrounding the end of their relationship has been. i never really had feelings about him one way or another, and as i mentioned above, there's a lot we'll never know about what happened between them. but she's been pushing her victim narrative so hard and the only thing i've seen from joe is his support of palestine. actions speak a lot louder than words. it changed so drastically from the initial news of their breakup being amicable to turning him into yet another villain. i have no doubt in my mind that taylor has been treated very poorly by a lot of the men in her life, and joe is likely not an exception. but i'm to the point where i have to take everything she says with a heaping tablespoon of salt.
at the end of the day, taylor's music is her own and i understand why she's said that she wants her work to be about the music and not about the men. i can see how it would feel invalidating to have her songs picked apart and attributed to the men they're written about. and i'm not even trying to do that here. but i can't recall a time when she's been so public about her relationships? in the past, it's felt a lot more like speculation, but jesus, between ratty and tk this past year, we've just been inundated with so much that unless i was an extremely casual fan that managed to escape her face on every news show, billboard, and social media website, i can't fathom not knowing what she's singing about on these albums. she can't have it both ways.
i still have all the music that came before ttpd, and like i said, with subsequent listens, ttpd will probably grow on me a bit, but idk man, i'm over it. and i think it's important to be willing and able to criticize or at the very least analyze your favorite media, whether it's music or tv or film or literature or whatever else. your favorite thing probably sucks in one way or another and pretending it doesn't doesn't make you a better person than someone who acknowledges it. these are complex, extremely nuanced things i take issue with and when it comes down to it, i will never know taylor personally and be able to talk to her about these things and get her point of view and her thoughts. that leaves me to say my piece, which is what this post is.
as a recovering swiftie, i'm just so very tired.
