Hey!
So I actually found your college!miguel fic on AO3 and I just wanted to sincerely thank you for making it! I'm indigenous latino and I've seen too many fics and drabbles reducing miguel to disgusting racial stereotypes for latino men and your fic was one of the few that made him an actual person instead of a fetish and actually treated our language with respect (you worked the spanish in really well!) ! So thank you :)) I'm excited if you do a pt 2 to it!

Hi! I always find your answers to writing questions enlightening, so I hope you can help me as well. I'm working on my first FFXIV fic, but English isn't my first language and I find staying true to canon characters speech pattern difficult (it's not really the English I'm used to) and I'm completely frightened by when I'll have to write Urianger. Do you have any resources or advice for that? Sorry for the weird question and thank you in advance ❤️
The language in FFXIV, in EN and as far as I know JP, is using a slightly archaic mode of speech that is even difficult for native speakers sometimes. So it's easy to feel confused and intimidated by it! Words like gaol, chirugeon, corse, swiving, and so on are are all real words that have fallen out of common use. The etymology of "gun" in the lore mirrors that of the real world (related to a queen's name). Even the Thieves Cant used by Limsa's Rogues Guild is based in reality (with some substitutions made), and can be looked up. The writers and translators are, funnily enough, language nerds. The names of various things/groups/etc usually actually mean something and aren't just made up entirely.
In universe, the reason EN Urianger talks in a version of Modern English (other translations of Urianger apparently don't go quite so archaic) is due of his childhood tendencies to self-isolate and read older books, adopting those speech patterns cuz he's a quirky nerd. Loiusoix gave that explanation in 1.x, and it's reiterated in Urianger's lorebook entry.
(Modern English starts in the late 14th century and early versions are recognizable if difficult to parse, versus Middle or Old English which are incomprehensible without study.)
Reading (or watching/listening) to Shakespearian English is a good way to get more used to Urianger's speech. Also they really are fun plays and poems; they were written for everyone to enjoy as popular entertainment, and are full of jokes and goofiness, even many of the tragedies. People think they're stuffy highbrow (they're not), and the cultural/social contexts are missing in a lot of cases anymore (the "William Shakespeare" tag on my main blog has more of that).
Writers off the top of my head to subscribe to who ship with the fortune-teller so write him often are @gunbun and @beetlebrownleaf; they've got his speech patterns and mannerisms pretty well down.
Here are some posts in my "language" tag (which I also often tag with Urianger and Midgardsormr, as he and some of the First Brood also speak a bit archaic):
Archaic Words - a short list of archaic words and their meanings.
Urianger Language Infographic - one fun way to try to learn the thy/thou/thee.
How To Thou/Thee/Thy/Thine/Ye Chart - what is says on the tin. Another handy method that may work for folks.
More Infographs - more silly pics explaining those pesky pronouns.
Discussion Thread on Modern English - random info thread from Tumblr users.
Urianger Discuss Thread - beetlebrownleaf and gunbun discussing Urianger-speak and some off-Tumblr resources they use when writing our favorite nerd.
One thing to remember about Modern/Shakespearian/Elizabethan English is "thee/thou/thy/thine" were actually informal, while "you" was formal. Like how some languages now have informal "you" versus formal "you." "Tu" versus "vous" in French, "tú" versus "usted" in Spanish, etc. And then we get into the plurals, and so on.
Which means Ye (subject)/You (object)/Your get used as both Plural and Formal.
Thou is Singular You as the Subject. Thee is Singular You as the Object. Thy is used for words starting with Consonants. Thine is used for words starting with Vowels ("H" counts).
If using "Thine", then that's when you'd use "Mine"; one of the links gives the example of "thine eyes" versus "mine eyes."
Doth = Does In fact, -eth and -th verb endings? It's just -es and -s endings.
Second person changes this up and we end up with "thou dost", "thou willt", "thou shallt".
"Ye" is actually not used for "The." That comes from an old letter no longer used in English, þ ("thorn"), that used to be the "th" sound, and as the letter fell out of use--especially in early printing--the letter "y" was substituted as a close visual equivalent but still pronounced "th". Which is why we have all those RenFaire signs.
There's more, so please check the links (especially gunbun's offsite resources) as of course there are irregular conjugations and exceptions and substitutions and special circumstances...but honestly for fanfic, just having "you" and basic verb conjugation sorted goes a long way to getting the correct "feel" of Urianger's EN speech.
In the end though: don't actually be intimidated by the language in FFXIV when it comes to writing fanfiction. Getting the NPCs to act and think in character regardless of language use is more important if aiming for authenticity. You can do your best with making the language sound close to the game's writing (avoid modern slang you don't see in game, for instance), but it's fanfic. Don't sweat it, ignore the grousing of your word doc's grammar check as needed, and it'll come easier in time with practice.

Do you prefer self studying or studying with a tutor
I feel like they accomplish different purposes and are not in any way mutually exclusive. I take classes with tutors, but I also do a lot of self-study.
For me, there are two ways a tutor can function: 1) As someone to introduce concepts 2) As a resource for practising productive language and getting feedback
If you study exclusively with a tutor without doing self-study, your progress will be very limited. When I was teaching on italki, it was always painfully obvious which students expected to get fluent in English just by coming to my classes once or twice a week because they never improved. Even now, working with kids in a classroom environment, it's clear which ones study outside the classroom, which ones engage with native content and which ones don't bother. I would say you can learn a language more effectively through self-study alone than with a tutor/classes alone.
That being said, I do like having a tutor. I like having someone who is being paid to sit through my shit grammar and help me express my thoughts coherently. I like having someone who can answer my questions about the differences between A and B. Some people can happily talk to native speakers and ask strangers on apps to help them do that, but I would never be so bold lmao.
I also mentioned a tutor can introduce concepts. I found this really helpful when I first decided to get more serious about Japanese because Japanese is so different from my native language that I felt kinda lost trying to self-study. Having a tutor guiding me through a structured syllabus gave me a better idea of the language's foundations and how to apply some of the grammar I'd kinda half-learned myself. When I was B1/B2 in Norwegian, I wasn't really sure what I needed to learn or improve on and I struggled to see progress, so having a course to follow really helped me at that time.
BUT… having said that… I don't like group classes, especially for beginners. I would take self-study with no tutor over going on a course (generally speaking). The reason being such courses are designed to be as generic as possible in order to be relevant to as many people as possible. So instead of learning how to talk about topics I'm interested in, I'm forced to talk about shit like my family (no thank you), work (fine if you have a 9-5, not if your job is unconventional), sport (I don't play sports) and going to the cinema (I don't watch movies). For my Spanish exam a couple of years ago I had to write "advice for having the perfect party" and I was like do I LOOK like I go to parties. So I find them super boring. Not to mention 90% of the class is going over what a basic grammar concepts in English are or listening to my classmates slowly and painfully mispronounce everything.
So, in answer to your question… I prefer having a tutor to not having a tutor. But self-study is absolutely necessary even with a tutor, and I'd personally choose self-study over a generic "one size fits all" course.

How I study Spanish
I started learning Spanish in school 9 years ago, but I only did it for 3 years. I’ve tried to keep up with the practice since then, but life always seems to get in the way of really dedicating myself to it. Here are a few things I do to keep it ticking over. These tips are aimed for Spanish learning but most can be applied to any language!
The main thing to get down is vocab. Even with limited grammar knowledge, you can understand a a great deal if you have a lot of vocab under your belt. So if you’re like me and don’t have an awful lot of time to spend studying, make vocab your focus. The grammar will come too with time, but don’t hold yourself back by trying to understand every single conjugation or new tense that pops up.
Pretty much all language learning boils down to the more content you consume = the more you know. So make sure you’re keeping on getting that input as that’s the way you’re going to improve.
You can find loads of free short stories online just by googling, for example The Fable Cottage has a bunch of traditional stories, and you can choose whether to hide or show the English translations.
People advise differently when it comes to reading: some say read a whole chapter without looking things up, others say try and understand every single word before moving on. My preferred method is read the whole thing once through to see how much I can understand, maybe reread it a second time to try and understand even more, and on the third time through look up any vocab I’m missing.
Any new vocab I find I make flashcards for: Anki is great for this if you don’t use it already – and it’s free to download on desktop!
Your next great source of free content for keeping up that input is YouTube! Whether you’re watching vlogs in Spanish, 5 minute grammar/vocab lessons, or shows designed for beginners like Extra, there are so many different options. Have a search about and you’ll definitely find some channels that work for your way of learning. Some channels I like to watch are Spanish Playground, Why Not Spanish and Spanish Like a Pro.
The next tip that you’re bound to hear on any “How to Learn a Language” advice page/video is to talk to people in that language. Now if you’re extremely socially awkward like me, this is easier said than done. I can’t think of anything worse than talking to strangers in my terrible accent and getting all of my words muddled! So the ways I get around this are:
Join online groups on social media such as Tumblr and Discord. Talking over text is way less daunting than in person, and if there are native Spanish speakers in the group you can also pick up on the way people talk casually to each other (rather than the formal speech that is taught in textbooks), ask for tips on anything you are confused about, as well as pick up some internet speak!
Talk to yourself! This might feel a bit awkward at first, but just having a ramble to yourself when alone is a great way to practice speaking without actually having to talk to people. Narrate what you’re doing, talk to an imaginary person about your day, or as I sometimes do, have a one sided conversation with your pet!
Another easy thing you can do to increase your exposure to the language is to change the language of your phone. Chances are you’re familiar with where everything is located anyway, so it shouldn’t be too difficult to navigate even when it’s in a different language. You can always switch back if you get confused!
Linked to the tip about talking out loud, is when reading, say it out loud as well. While reading stories or sentences in your textbook, say the phrases out loud to get a feel for the pronunciation. This also gets you more used to speaking, and makes what you’re learning sink in better. I personally really like Duolingo (they also have a really good Spanish podcast if you haven’t checked it out!), and I find it helpful to repeat the sentences out loud when doing lessons. You can also try echoing people when watching videos – pause and repeat phrases you hear to try and echo the proper pronunciation as best as you can.
Finally, one tip that I really need to listen to myself, is write! Writing for 10 minutes about your day is a great way to pick up on any gaps in your vocabulary, and put everything you have learnt in to practice. It’s also really fun to go back to earlier entries and see how far you’ve come since then!
I hope these tips were helpful, and happy learning! 💫

As a native Spanish speaker, is there any way I could ask you to make a list of terms of endearment? Like the kind you'd use for your child, your sibling etc vs your lover/spouse etc? Those can always get very confusing between languages (I think they used 'mi amor' both to a lover and to a child in the movie at least).
Oh!! Sure! By the movie you mean Encanto right? Sooooo we're talking Colombian spanish then. Because obviously each dialect has it's own particularities and I don't know much about colombian spanish. Still yeah there are some terms of endearment than I'm pretty sure are universal to the whole hispanic world.
I know "mi amor", "mi vida" and "mi cielo" all work for both partners and children, though you'd probably just say "amor", "vida" or "cielo" when talking to someone. Example: "¿Cómo estás, amor?" (How are you, love?) / "Buenas noches, vida" (good evening, life) / "Vení aca, cielito" (come here, little sky). Though now that I think about it, I only ever hear cielo/cielito used when someone is mad at you. You know how people will use diminutives when trying to control their anger? I.e "Marianita" as opposed to Mariana or "Pablito" as opposed to Pablo. So if, say, you wanted to write about Julieta scolding Mirabel, you could have her call her "cielito", "amorcito", "solcito", "chiquita/chiquitita" (little one) or just something like "Mirabelita" when she's trying to get her attention. You may also see people using more extravagant pet names like "mi corazón", "corazoncito" or "cariño" when they're mad, and they take on this agressive, mocking tone. Unless you're a grandma, in which case you throw those words around like you dgaf. Some people use them ironically among their friends. Moms and grandmas also like to say "mi tesoro", "mi corazón," "mi bebé", "mi linda/o", "bonito/a", "mi sol", " "mi cosita", (Julieta calling Mirabel "cosa linda" (pretty thing) in the film was perfectly fitting and realistic) when they're gushing over you and how much they love you, possibly while kissing you all over and snuggling with you in bed. But they wouldn't use it to casually say "hey you come here".
Actually I can't think of many romantic pet names. "Amor" and "Vida" (or "mi amor" and "mi vida" if you're feeling fancy) are simple and versatile, you can't go wrong with them. Some people use "Bebé" too but ngl it seems so cheesy to me. I can think of several for children, though. "Amor", "Vida", "Sol", "Chiqui" etc. My parents always called me "Cuchi" or "Cuchicuchi" but I think that one may be from my country 😂 no idea. Speaking of my country, I've also seen people say "Amorchi", which sounds like italian influence to me but I'm not a linguist so idk. "Michi"/"Michí" is a common petname for cats, and it has Quechua origins so afaik it's used in all the countries that were once part of the empire, and parts of the south of Colombia were under the empire's control but I have no idea how widespread it is. My favorite one is "bichito de luz" (firefly, or more literally, "bug of light") usually shortened to "bicho" or "bichi" (i.e "bug"). I think this is the one that sounds the most natural.
Then there's the controversial ones which I wouldn't advice using in english contexts because people may get the wrong idea. Man i feel weird and uncomfy mentioning them rn but given the context I think it's fine. A lot of girls are nicknamed "negra", "negri" or "negrita" all of which literally mean "black girl" or "little black girl". They are perfectly acceptable terms of endearment an carry no offensive meaning at all. They may call us that regardless of skin color. My aunt, who is white, calls her white daughter "negri" all the time. And I've had friendly teachers call me negra and negrita a lot in school. I know it may sound weird but it's super normal in my country at least, and if I saw it on a fic, I'd think they would sound very natural, but again if the rest is in english then it may not come across the way you want it to.
On a similar vein but not as bad, "gordi" (fatty) is also a term of endearment. I actually think this one is pretty cute. I've seen fanart and fanfic in which characters call Mirabel that and it comes across just fine imo. Again, it can be used for anyone and it's not offensive, unless you're using it as an insult. This applies to the previous point too: context is important and both terms can be used in friendly and unfriendly manners.
If i had to say which come across as most natural for a parent (in my country) to use on their everyday life (see: what we usually call kids in my family), I'd say they're Bichi, Cuchi, Cuchicuchi, Vida, Negri, Gordi, or just a shortened form of the kid's name. Amor is also used every now and then.
I think nicknames for friends are the hardest because each country has it's own set of terms. I know spaniards like to throw "Tío" (uncle) around as a way of saying "dude". In my country we say "Boludo" (someone with big balls, but having big balls is sometimes associated with being stupid, useless and incompetent, not with being brave), in Chile i think they say "Weon" (???? No idea what it means) and I think in México they say "Güey" (again, etymology unknown). Apparently, in Colombia they use "Parce" (which is what Antonio named his jaguar!). Not sure how you'd use it in a sentence though.
As for siblings... idk in my family we just call each other "brute", "whore", "slut", "bitch", "ugly", "rat", "trashcan", "stupid" and other insults of the sort (all in spanish ofc - respectively: bruto/a, puta* (puto means faggot), zorra, perra, feo/a, rata, basura, estúpido/a). Calling my sister or cousins anything nicer would feel weird. It's like telling your sister she's pretty, like, yes maybe she has a good fashion sense and knows how to style her own hair but lmao i'm still not calling her pretty. It's in my contract to be a little shit. I NEED to tell her she's trash (because she knows I don't mean it - she calls me a whore in return so it's fine). It would be suuuuuper weird to call your sibling or cousin "amor" or "bichi" unless there's a large age gap and you're coming from a more motherly babysitter vibe. I know like, one person who calls her sibling "amor" and if I didn't know that's just her way of showing respect I'd sideye her so bad. Now, maybe that's the vibe you're going for, maybe not. You also wouldn't usually call them "hermano/a" or "primo/a" on your everyday life. "Cousin" is not a substitute for "dude" lol. Though "primito/a" and "hermanito/a" could be used more ironically and playfully if a character is teasing another, especially if it's the oldest making fun of the youngest. It depends a lot on the person. I know cousins who call each other "Primo/a" but it's not the most common thing afaik. Different families have different vibes. My sister and I are just brutal with each other, but other siblings are nicer.
Oh and "enano/a" means dwarf, and you use it for kids younger than you. Idk if parents use it. Maybe cool parents? I get the vibe a cool aunt or uncle would use it too. It's meant to be a bit teasing, but it carries a more endearment than "ugly rat whore" which is how my sister and I usually refer to each other 😊
Terms like "mi amado/a", "mi luz", "mi alma" strike me as old-fashioned, cheesy and too extravagant, which may or may not fit the characters you're writing.
There's also the matter of gender, because different words have different forms depending on who you're talking about, and others don't. For example, "cielo" (sky) is always masculine, and you wouldn't change it to "ciela" if you were writing about a woman (some ppl do it ironically to cause cringe on purpose). Same with terms like "bicho" or "tesoro", and "gordi" and "negri" should be gender neutral. But if you're using an adjective and not a noun, like "chiquito/chiquita" or "enano/a", you'd change the gender. O for men and A for women.
This subject is difficult because it varies a lot from country to country. I didn't mention "Mijo/a" because... honestly I have no idea if Colombians use it. I think it may be a mexican or maybe central american thing, but it's a lot more localized than people seem to think. I don't know if my suggestions would work in a colombian context and if any colombian peeps out there would like to add anything y'all are more than welcome 👀
Still i hope it helps Anon 😂

this might be a weird question but maybe you have some advice! I grew up speaking only English and I studied Norwegian for a few years in university. I really loved it, but I'm moving to Valencia for a year so now I am trying to learn Spanish. I think my brain does not know how to deal with this because every time I try to speak Spanish, Norwegian comes out. I don't want to lose my Norwegian, but I need to focus on Spanish right now, should I just study Spanish or try and study both at once?
Hi anon. First of all, congrats to going to Valencia! It is a beautiful city with incredibly lovely people and you are going to have an amazing time I am sure.
I can only speak of my own experience of trying to learn Portuguese and Spanish at the same time. It's been a struggle for years now and it's very hard, especially since both languages are very close to each other.
The advice I am giving is only based on my own experience, so maybe your brain works differently, but I recommend the following:
1. Accept that your Norwegian is going to get worse in the beginning
In my own experience, this is inevitable. You will immerse yourself completely in spanish (and catalan) once you're there so it's natural that it will be at the forefront of your thoughts at first.
2. Fluency is a lifelong dedication, so pausing one language for some time is not "giving up"
I know we are bombarded by people becoming "fluent" in 5 languages in one month but fluency is a longterm goal. I have studied Portuguese and Spanish for 10 years now and it's been a rollercoaster in general but also regarding what language I am better with and which one is set back for a while. But in the end I stuck to both and worked on finding ways to integrate both in my everyday life so overall I could improve them a lot over the course of these 10 years.
3. If you pick Norwegian up again, find ways to not only learn the language but use it and build it into your weekly routine
I think that point has helped me keep up both languages over a long period of time. Watch TV shows, write a diary and, if you are able to, find native speakers you can have language exchange meetings with. Wanting to speak a language is a good motivation but actual friendship is in my experience a more efficient one.
I can't tell you if you should pause Norwegian or not but even if you feel like you need to pause it or that it is set back by going to Spain, this does not mean that you have to give up on it entirely. I mean, what's a year in the grand scheme of things? It will be a trial and error for you at first to find the right balance but if you want to keep learning both, I'd say go for it!

Miraculous Rewrite - Along Came a Spider
A spider's web is weaving
The story opens directly on Last epsiode’s favorite nerd. Hoàng Tuyến is scribbling out notes onto a scrap of paper, humming to herself as SaanBaan sits on her desk, happily stuffing her face with sour candies.
“They’re going to expect me to be furious, aren’t they?”
“Oh no question little silk.”
“And it’s probably very important indeed for them to think themselves winning and us flustered.”
“As if we couldn’t part with the Ox and Boar without it being a major blow.”
“Woooww shapeshifting and superstrength, how will we ever go on without them.”
“Maybe those little brats should pay for the indelible cruelties they’ve done unto us.”
“I thought Misso was the Kwami of Revenge?” She raises a brow and smirks at Saanbaan, whom giggles up at her.
“Perhaps I simply like the idea of putting these little thieves in their place.”
“That sounds more like you.”
“Well if we’re going hunting I should be getting myself prepared, huh?” Saanbaan drifts upward. “I’m going to go eat some real food. I’ll be back.”
“Don’t swallow too many flies, you know how you get when you overeat!”
“So protective..”
Cue intro
After the intro, we return to the base, and with the base, the Heist Board, now split into two sides, to showcase the discoveries made by Alix, Amber and Alya in the episode prior. The rest of the team, Sun Min included. The only one not present in the little couch area is Kagami, but her voice can be heard almost instantly, a panning shot upwards showing Juleka in the training ring with the Dragon, sparring. Rose can be spotted on the sidelines cheering, but also with an icepack pressed against her shoulder.
Rose has a garden rake propped up against her side-clearly swiped from the custodial lockers from the hotel proper, while Jueka hefts an aluminum baseball bat in her hand, trying to keep up with Kagami’s unrelenting force. Every so often the dragon wielder barking advice to the newly christened Ox wielder.
Though we don’t linger on them particularly long either, as just as Kagami swipes the bat out of Juleka’s hand we follow the upwards arc of the bat as it's tossed right over the Kami paradise in the rafters.
And Zhuu and Dynaa are being welcomed back with tearful and ecstatic joy from the others.
Xuppu in particular seems happy to latch onto Zhuu talking about how dull it was with only his little peach and Plagg around to help him make some mischief. The two Kwami grin widely at each other. Whereas Dynaa is greeted with more reserved joy from Wayzz and Lonng. The two claiming that there’s been so few around who make any sense and Dynaa was a missed presence. But the little kwami trio is interrupted by the two mischief makers zooming past them to peer down at the children below.
“If you touch my foal there’ll be hell to pay.” Kaalki huffs from her spot on a plush cushion.
“Mess with Alya if you want, she needs to learn to lighten up all over again.” Trixx calls out from beside Kaalki.
“Okay so, what is all of this again?” Chloe starts us off, looking over some papers that seem to have been thrust into her hands. “All I’m seeing is an ancient stone slab.”
“Hoàng Tuyến’s research.” Alya responds, but keeping her eyes to the newly established portion of the Heist board. “We caught a bit of it while you guys were distracted during that last Akuma. She’s a world history type person, and these are Mesoamerican slabs from pre-Spanish days.”
“Back before there would have been any influence of Eurasia on the New World beyond those theories about the Chinese trading with Native American tribes on the pacific coast.*”
“That was a thing?” Adrien pipes up. “Crazy…”
“Go on Alya.” Marinette encourages after a beat. Alya nods and turns back to the notes.
“Anyway, pre-Spain and us and such taking the kingdoms there and colonizing the shit out of them, there were records about what were once assumed to be great kings or priests, people who were called speakers of the gods. That they embodied certain mesoamerican gods for they covered the same domains.”
“Wait babe, you don’t mean-”
“Oh I mean, Nino. I mean. I mean, is it so far-fetched to say that China was the only place that figured out how to make contact with Kwamis and tie their physical forms to jewelry so they could interact with the world that they embody?”
“So how Many of these maybe-wielders do we know might have existed in the Americas?” Marinette adds on “And Do we know if their Miraculous might still be out there somewhere or not?”
“See that's the thing, the list of names is one of the parts neither me, Alix, norr Amber could find any translations of, so we can’t be fully sure. Our best bet is to seek some better access photos and hope our resident translator of weird things can help us translate this weird thing.” Alya Peers imploringly at Chloe, whom is currently curled up into Luka’s side btw.
“Why are you looking at me? The only reason I was able to translate the book was because it was magic code. I’m not exactly a linguist.”
Alya continues to stare at Choe, whom looks more and more uncomfortable as the eye contact goes on.
“UGH fine, I'll see what I can do. But if i’m stuck staring at ruined tablets for hours trying to match symbols i don’t understand hoping there’s something already translated it’s your head Cesaire.”
“It’s alright Chloe.” Max pipes up. “Heist Plans are beginning to shape up so I have more freetime. Maybe Markov and I can lend some assistance.”
“I’m gonna need glasses soon for how much squinting I’m gonna be doing….” Chloe grumbles.
“You’d look cute in glasses, shut up.” Amber pokes Chloe’s forehead.
“Very scholarly.” Luka agrees, pulling his arm around her tighter.
Before Marinette of course gets everyone back on track. “Anyway, Alya? I get we don’t want a bunch of recently undiscovered Miraculous snatched up by the Old Order, but isn’t this a bit too much for us? I mean, most of us can’t even leave the city easily, let alone the continent.”
“Yeah which is why, unfortunately this is probably gonna have to be a long term project. But it is something we’re gonna have to keep in mind at all times. Because truth be told, we don't know if the Old Order is gonna be rolling up with completely unheard of Miraculous or not. It was just a stroke of luck last time that they used ones from our Miracle Box.”
“And that they severely underestimated us since Jules and Rose had no previous experience in Wielding. And they took back the Ox and Boar like… really easily.” Luka adds on, and slightly out of his eyeshot, Marinette and Adrien wince.
“But that means we’re getting closer to getting the full zodiac back all the same. Right now the only Kwami of ours that we need to take back are the Ram, Rooster, and eventually, we can actually try to reclaim the butterfly too.”
“Let’s not get carried away here.” Nino huffs. “Knowing our luck it could be another ten years before Monarcha’s done being a supervillain. And that’s assuming someone else doesn’t take it up in her place.”
“You’re really gonna jinx us like that Nino?” Kim leans over dramatically until he’s practically crushing Nino with his body. “Harsh dude, thought you were on our side.”
“Hey! Kim come on man you’re too damn beefy for this!”
“Nino you’re a superhero you can probably bench press him.” Alix chimes in.
The shenanigans continue for a moment before we cut to Bridget and Felix sitting on the other side of Luka, both of them looking about at the chaos.
“Is… I feel like we got a little off topic.”
“What was your first clue?” Felix huffs “Is there anything else we could do to possibly counteract the new information regarding undiscovered Miraculous? Like perhaps utilizing the Horse to traverse to different presumed locations on weekends and so do some cursory searches, or should we just be made aware of their existence and expect the unexpected?”
“That’s a great idea Fe!” Adrien pipes up, leaning forward with sparkles appearing in his eyes. “ We can make whole hangouts of it! Wandering around pillaged ruins looking for Miraculous!”
“Wouldn’t that just make us the same kind of people that exploited that area for what THEY found valuable and put it in museums?” Marinette chimes in. “I mean yeah we should probably find them before the Old Order does, but what then?”
“We could set up a series of trials?” Max considers after a beat. “Like in comic books and such how there are things such as automatons or tasks and challenges to see if someone is worthy of possessing the Miraculous they seek?”
“And how would you suppose we do that?” Alix raises a brow at Max who meets her gaze levelly.
“We have magical accessories that grant us Superpowers Alix. I'm sure we’d figure something out.”
“Okay I’m still hung up over this stupid tablet.” Chloe huffs. “Is there anything else you guys found that I could work with? Like a better quality picture? Or some notes writing down what rough translations she’d already done onto it? I might be able to decode THAT if I already had something to work with.”
“Well once the tablet is published as a find we can probably look at it all we want.” Max adds on “Granted what Alix has told us about the publishing of historical finds, it shouldn’t be too long before Our Friend The Spider’s discovery is made known.”
“Ugh, don’t remind me, all that academic shit actually nearly killed my ethics center.”
“You had an Ethics center?” Kim adds on before Alix pounces on him.
“Well either way we should be avoiding the museum for a while. Hoàng Tuyến and Tsering Wan are no doubt furious with us.” Amber adds on. “We went a liiittllleee crazy getting this info in the first place.”
But just as that little admittance is out of the way there’s a ringing from the computer system, An alert. Alya’s phone goes off as well with a Ladyblog alert.
“....speak of the devil…” Alya huffs “Looks like Spider’s out for a little vengeance.” She holds out her phone around the same time Max pulls up the alert on the computer. And sure enough an entire portion of Eiffel tower park was frozen in place, no doubt from the effects of Venom.
“Man we really gotta get our potion recipes back in order…” Adrien huffs. “These jerks can just keep abusing Light Potion after Light Potion…”
“I’m working on it.” Chloe responds crabbily.
“So who wants to catch a Spider?”
“I can go-” Chloe moves to stand but Luka grabs her wrist and pulls her back down.
“Chloe has a tablet to work on, actually.”
“What?! I can fight! Just because I’m a little rusty-”
“Chloe is really focused on this tablet stuff we should let her work.” Luka states again.
“Don’t bother fighting it Chloe.” Marinette chimes in.
Chloe opens her mouth to protest more, but Alix rests a hand on her shoulder. “Join the sidelines club, I’ve got shirts preordered.”
“Well, If it’s starting with Me and Chat, then how many do you think we’ll need, Adrien?”
“Hmmmm…. Dunno M’lady, we’re pretty dynamight when it’s just us two, maybe we should go in a duo? For old time’s sake?” He grins widely, before laughing and waving a hand. “I’m just messing, If she’s overusing the Light potion we’re gonna need something to counteract it, Roi Singe. Kim, you up for it?”
“You know it.”
“Okay, Nino probably, the shield would be really handy in all of this I Think.”
“You know it Mari.”
“I would like to go as well.” Max stands. “Though I am well aware my strengths in this team lie in my intelligence and ability with technology, I feel as though I need to continue to sharpen my skills against foes whenever possible.”
“Hey Hold up Max,” Alya stands then. “I’m the one who enabled us to REALLY piss off the Spider, if we want her to be off her game I should be heading in too. And I get the whole wanting to be better thing, but doesn’t that mean you should be-” there’s a clatter and Rose yelping in pain as Kagami throws her across the mat. “-You know… Training?”
Max’s gaze turns to the Kagami Combat Boot Camp, and now it’s Julkea’s turn to get thrown across the ring, he humms.
“.....perhaps I require training that only can be experienced out in the field?”
Alya looks at Max, whom smiles back at her. She sighs. “Fine. Fine. I guess I’ll help Chloe with allll off this reseeearrcchhh just Cesaire and Bourgeois…. Learning so much about ancient Mesoamerican pre-colonial Miraculous.”
Max glares at her, Alya smirks back. For every action there is an equal opposite reaction after all.
But we cut away from there to the Eiffel Tower, where Hoàng Tuyến is reading, surrounded as expected by the statuesque visages of her victims. She’s humming to herself and seeming to just enjoy her solitude among the frozen.
“So, the little brats thought they could outsmart a scholar, hm? That just because they escaped with their lives and their photos that somehow they’d gotten the best of me? That the Order of Miraculous is so easily duped?” She states this all very dryly, turning the page of her book, bored and clearly not putting her heart into it.
“What Ho! Clearly a demonstration of our wrath must be made clear- Wow I sound like Master Wan. I can’t even fake it without cringing.” she chuckles to herself and puts away her book.
Right on time actually as a boomerang zips through the air and smacks her hand after she stores said book away. Hoàng Tuyến rolls her eyes and unspools her whip. “Alright children, ready for a lesson?”
“You guys are so petty…” Roi Singe laughs as the current selected group descends. “I mean wwoooowwww a bunch of kids took some pictures of your secret stuff, how humiliating… Look I’m easily the most emotionally immature one on the team and even I think that’s childish.”
“You children know nothing of us and what we find important.” Hoàng Tuyến’s voice is still dry and bored. “The only one of you whom ever knew was Cheshire and she lied and misl-okay this is boring. Are we gonna fight or not?”
Now naturally the whole act doesn’t throw the others off balance for too long. Sun Min after all has given them a basic rundown of the others. Played out for us at first with a quick flashback. Nothing more than Sun Min standing from where he was leaning against the wall. “Okay so here’s the thing about Master Hoàng…” Shifting very quickly to a voice over as Hoàng Tuyến begins to stretch and get her whip ready again.
“She’s not super interested in fighting, but that in no way means she’s not any good at it. She’s remarkably fast, and because she’s grown enough to handle the strain she can use venom more than once before her timer starts going off.”
“Hey yeah when will we start getting that ourselves?” Adrien’s voice chimes in the dub.
“After puberty probably. That's when I started being able to handle it. But here’s the thing about that though, the more someone uses the power in one sitting the more strain it puts on their body, because your Kwami starts digging into reserves they don’t usually go through to maintain the form-”
As the fight goes on the kids are doing their best to try and run out the clock, not necessarily trying to beat her so much as keep her busy and wear her down.
“-But she can lead anyone into her web if she knows what she’s dealing with. It’s likely this whole thing is a trap, so be ready for backup, or that she’s an Akuma or something.” The Sun Min Voice over fades just as it looks like Hoàng Tuyến is starting to slow down.
“Well, this is boring me.” She huffs. “Playing with kids gloves isn’t as fun as one might think.” she reaches into her subspace and pulls something concealed by her hand out. Fiddling with her hair until she pulls her hands away and reveals a pair of black hair pins in the shape of horns are now resting in her hair.
“Saanbaan, detransform me.” she huffs just as she gets a bigger distance between her and the kids.
“Saanbaan, Duura, May the virtues combine and two become one, Subjugation and Endurance, together we are strong.” A light shines from between Saanbaan and Duura, reflected in the Miraculous on Hoàng Tuyến. A silver string tying the two kwami together and when she holds her hand into the air, both vanish into their Miraculous at once.
“Transform me!”
A ram and a Spider as one makes… a bit of an unsightly combination. Black and grey stripes cover her suit as it seems both Kwami try to take charge. Both Miraculous were hair ornaments, and have turned into a row of six horns on her head, both hairclips creating one horn each, and the hair clasp that is the spider making four.
“Well, this wasn’t what I expected….” She huffs, her voice sounds strained, a bit echo-y as well. “But! This will be valuable data to bring home.”
She reaches for her weapon and while one hand pulls out her whip, the other brings out a gauntlet, like a giant stone gauntlet.
The team looks between each other, a little… hesitant to try this new variable out. Ladybug huffs and sends a text over the communicators, a quick silent plan. Chat nods and spins his staff once.
“Cataclysm!” He summons the power but keeps his fist held tight as he goes into the fight, followed closely with Carapace at his heels, the offence/defense setup clearly intended to keep her busy. Though Hoàng Tuyến is keeping them at bay with the whip, she’s clearly unused to the gauntlet and keeps giving away her movements when she reels back to punch.
“Alright, the real question, do I really need both out?” She dismisses the gauntlet and gains the upper hand again almost immediately, wrapping her whip around Carapace’s waist and flicking him into Chat Noir, Chat however is able to grab hold of her whip as she does so, it crumbles quickly in his grasp. She huffs and pulls out the gauntlets proper then, both encompassing her fists. “Alright, fine! If you’re going to play it that way.”
“So Venom, and Sturdy would make-” Then phase two begins of the plan, a small portal opening by her head and forcing her to block Pegasus’ fist as it hurdles through, but just as she blocks it Ladybug comes in the other side, her yoyo gripped by Hoàng Tuyến’s other hand, but barely. Pegasus took that opportunity to widen the portal and come through for real, and he and Ladybug try to restrain her, Chat enters the fray again as she’s about to overpower the two, and just as she throws both kids off, her gauntlets begin to glow.
“Petrification.” she mutters with a smile.
She takes a swing at Chat Noir as he comes close,
Only for her fist to be matched with the clang of brass. She blinks and Sun Min is staring determinedly at her.
“Really? Master Hoàng, you can’t be serious.” The grey energy begins to encompass Sun Min’s hand, and he lets go of his brass knuckles before it gets below the wrist, pulling away as half of his weapon turns to stone against Hoàng Tuyến’s fist, he’s shaking his hand to get the feeling back in it.
“This is so dumb…” he mutters and dismisses his other brass knuckle, but when he tries to re-summon them only the undamaged one remains. “Well that's not good.”
“Oh sorry Sun Min, did you want to give this whole ‘new powers’ thing a spin yourself before I played with the little kids?”
“Frankly I just had a feeling you were gonna do some child-murdering today and I wasn't fond of it. But if you’d LIKE me to fight you-”
“Hmmmm no thanks. Manabe can have his fun with you first.” She reels back and aims her next punch at Ladybug, But before it lands again, this time there’s a hard shove to Ladybug’s side, she skids away and just as Hoàng Tuyến’s fist lands in Roi Singe’s side he presses his sabotage, a squeaky toy in the shape of a cartoon ladybug, into her side. Her gauntlets turn into those inflatable boxing gloves from the 1990’s
But she hit Roi Singe first. Grey energy quickly encoumpasses his form-
And Kim turns to stone, Miraculous and all.
“Damn Monkey…” Hoàng Tuyến hisses, she shakes the gloves once but no dice.
“Roi goddamnit!” Ladybug huffs “I’m gonna KILL you when you’re back to normal.” She gets to her feet just as Hoàng Tuyến ditches the now ruined gauntlets, fighting bare fisted against Ladybug, Pegasus, and now Carapace and Chat Noir are back in the fight. Though Sun Min is hanging back, inspecting the Kim statue. At a certain point you see the bronze glow of Judgement pass over his hand, but he takes a step back afterward.
“Ugh, you lot are getting less and less fun as our time in this ridiculous country continues.” Hoàng Tuyến huffs, finding an opening and using it to bound out of range. “I’m getting bored. And I believe I have a lecture to give in about an hour, so I should probably get prepared for that. You kids have fun with your friend. Use him for a hat rack if you want!”
“Well that was… troubling.” Chat Noir huffs, looking down at the beeping and realizing his Miraculous is getting low.
Ladybug summons Lucky Charm and then without really looking at it throws it into the air with a ‘Miraculous Ladybug.’ The people surrounding the Eiffel tower get unfrozen quickly. Sun Min’s second bronze knuckle is repaired and returned.
The Ladybugs linger for a while on Roi Singe. Sun Min at first was the only one watching with any sort of nerves, but soon enough the Ladybugs are spending way too long around him than they usually do for people afflicted by magic.
Ladybug approaches the bundle of Miraculous Cure and lays a hand on the mound “Is there something wrong?”
The ladybugs buzz beneath her hand, then sort of benign to pull it into the swarm, until her hand was resting on what felt to be Kim’s arm, still outstretched with the sabotage in hand. “Wait hold on, Tikki this is essentially you spread out into a swarm right?... okay… right. But why isn’t it… alright.” The ladybugs disperse around her, and Roi Singe is still stone.
“What happened?” Pegasus takes a step forward “Why didn’t it work? The Miraculous Cure always reverses things! Yours and Chat Noir’s powers are stronger than any of ours!” Carapace puts a hand on his shoulder to keep him from moving forward further.
“Max it’ll be okay.” Chat tres but Pegasus turns to glare at him.
“Excuse me, Adrien, but one of my best friends is currently a statue and the one thing that should have fixed him didn’t work. Perhaps you’ll need to define ‘okay’ for me because it seems we have two very different interpretations of the word!”
“Detransform me.” Marinette reappears and rummages in her purse until she pulls out a cookie and the light potion for Tikki, whom guzzles them both quickly. “Alright, everyone stand back.” Marinette throws out her hands and makes everyone back up. “This can get bright.”
Tikki’s spots all light up white and she hovers over Kim’s head, pressing one paw to his forehead, the other to his Miraculous.
“Miraculous Ladybug!” Tikki chirps. Pink energy explodes out from Tikki’s spots and quickly douses Kim, the greyscale of the stone slowly leeching out of him from the bottom up. Until finally his head is returned and Kim takes in a gasping breath. Roi Singe stumbles back and Tikki opens her mouth, pink dust shooting from her like a spout and vanishing into the air.
To which afterward Tikki drops from the air and is caught by Marinette.
Pegasus is immediately at Roi Singe’ side, holding him up after he’d fallen back as well. And surprisingly Sun Min is on the other side.
“Kim, are you alright? The Miraculous Cure didn’t work on you except after coming in direct contact with a supercharged Kwami, there was a high percentile that you had just-”
“He was, Horse boy, give him some space, the man just came back from the dead.” Kim’s breath is still heavy and heaving, and he looks considerably paler than before.
“What?!” He manages to wheeze even as Sun Min helps him to his feet, Max hovering anyway.
“What do you remember from being in there? People who experience Venom can see and hear what goes on around them, and people who use Sturdy can move while being stone. So what do you remember?”
“Well I-” Kim pauses, looks down, “I uh…”
“Nothing, right? You’re lucky your body was intact else I doubt even the Miraculous Cure could have strung you back together and revived you at once.”
“Wait woah-woah-woah WOAH” Chat Noir steps in. “You’re telling me Kim just DIED right there?”
“Combination Spells are pretty damn powerful. You guys just took back the Ox and the Boar, they’re going to be on their toes from here on out.” Marinette doesn’t say a word and goes to Kim’s other side to help hold him up, her own gaze to the ground, mind clearly running a mile a minute.
“Let's get you back to the base, Kim.” she mutters breathlessly. “We’ve got a lot to catch the others up on.”
But just as they do so, we cut back to former Agreste manor. Specifically to Manabe doing something on a laptop. The door opens to the room he’s in and there’s a ‘think fast’ before the ram hairclips are thrown at his head.
Manabe catches them, but its’ a near thing. “You’re back early.”
“The kids were boring me more than usual. If we didn’t need to do experiments with someone expendable I wouldn’t have gone.”
“Of course you wouldn’t have you’re better than the brutish doman of the Warrior class.” Manabe huffs with a hoity toity tone. Hoàng Tuyến collapses on the couch beside him, putting her legs up over his lap, and over his laptop.
“You’re right about that at least.”
“Hey! You’re messing up my spreadsheet!”
“Pff, you don’t really care about those.”
“So? They still need to get done.”
“Sturdy and Venom are a good combination, Saanbaan and Duura are complimentary I think.”
“Good for you.”
“You should try Orikko and Liiber, Hustle and Freedom might be a fun combination.”
“I think I'm fine. Unlike you weak Scholarly classes, a Warrior doesn’t need two Miraculous at once to fight!”
“Which is why Sun Min left of course.” Manabe winces
“Low blow.”
“You’ll get over it. What are the spreadsheets for?”
We do a dialogue cut to Xiuppu “Well it was weird! I haven’t been discorporeal since before I became bound to the physical world! But I was DEFINITELY Discorporeal again!” The Kwami is laying on a pillow next to Zhuu, the two talking animatedly about the fight. “And my poor little peach went AWOL entirely! Tikki needed to down a light Potion AND do the cure herself just to fix him up!”
“Poor thing!”
“I mean right?!”
“Well at least he’s better, I couldn’t imagine how rough something like that would be on the team!” Voices below the rafters answer that question.
“Guys I’m Fine! I’m all fixed up I promise! No leftover stone fragments, no brain freeze, I'm not even like, traumatized over it or anything!”
Kim has found himself at the bottom of a very affectionate dogpile, though some are more enthused than others (it seems like Chloe and Kagami were dragged in against their will) everyone has ensconced him in a mountain of love.
“I swear to god if I have to start beating you guys up to get me to damn fights I will.” Alix mumbles angrily, Max is still running numbers on possible side effects, Luka’s curled up into Chloe’s side, fiddling with his Miraculous, it doesn’t take a genius detective to figure out where HIS mind is at in all of this. Kagami has been put in a mini dog pile beneath Adrien and Marinette. The only one not on this pile is of course Sun Min, But he’s lingering nearby.
“We probably can’t afford to do this every time.” He chimes. “For all we know this is gonna keep happening.”
“We won’t let it.” Marinette states firmly from her part in the pile. “We just didn’t know what we were dealing with this time, it’ll never happen again.”
“We’ll be better prepared now that we know the potential for combos.” Adrien adds on. But Kagami’s brow furrows.
“We all know that that wasn’t the full potential for combination spells. Sun Min is right, we should learn to take these backpedals in stride. Lest we come undone every time we encounter them.” All the same she gets herself a bit more comfy in the pile.
“Well, some good news?” Chloe tries from her position. “I think we’ve got some of the Tablet stuff close to being readable.”
“We got the word ‘Destiny’ at least.” Alya adds on. “Maybe it was an early Sass encounter though, do you guys think Fate and Destiny would be the same things in that kind of translation?” It seems like the group starts to relax as Alya goes on, She and Chloe make eye contact and share a quick nod before they’re detangling themselves from the group to begin to explain their process.
The episode ends with the bittersweet note of the Tiger and Fox trying to cheer everyone up.

Hi Gina!! hope you're okay and having a nice day🤍🤍
I'm looking for some advice hehe I've been having some great ideas for fanfics and I've tried to gain confidence to post something, my dilemma is that english is not my first language, and everything I have written in a serious way has been in spanish. For a while now, all the interactions I have in the fandom are in english, my mutuals and the blogs that I follow most of them are english speakers, (the reason behind this is because I sometimes feel disconnected from the latino fandom due toxic behaviors, mostly on twitter) but for that same reason I actually don't know if I feel capable enough to write something that is not in my own language. If i'm honest i don't think my english is that bad BUUUUT the written part is the one that has been a pain in my ass hahha
Maybe I could do it in spanish for now and very slowly practice my english by doing the translation (??) Hahaha idk i'm kind of lost here and feeling very insecure, any suggestions??
Wish u the best!!! 🤍🤍🤍
Hi sugar. I know I'm only looking at a couple of paragraphs, but your English seems absolutely good enough to try writing in English. I would just suggest making sure you have a native speaker for a beta. I find when I read fics written by someone not writing in their native language, it's generally little things like idioms or descriptive words where the author may have used a thesaurus but it's not quite getting across the point they want. I would imagine your writing would be similar if there was any issue at all. Maybe try writing something short as a trial run. Writing in Spanish and then translating it sounds like an awful lot of work, but if that helps, sure! Take a scroll through the beta list linked in my bio, too. There are a lot of native speakers there who've offered to help. And good luck!

"The One with the Cards Laid Bare"
[INCREDIBLY LONG, SORRY FOR CLOGGING THE TAG]
There were very tense energies in our classroom before V's double class. We already knew she'd cried today, we knew where she'd be working from other classes, so we all knew what would come, and it still was bad. One of the boys said he heard that she hopes we're not all angry at her and that we won't hate her for her decision. There was not an inch of anger or hatred in any of us, just heartbreak. We knew how much we'd cry seeing her leave. We were afraid of this goodbye. But it had to come eventually. The last class she'll ever teach. The last two lessons she'll ever have.
She was late. Only a couple minutes, but seeing she's always on time, or even a bit early, it was worrying. I walked outside to find her, and when I did, I saw her, coming up the stairs with two boys from the class, fresh back from lunch. Immediately as she saw me, she raised her index finger and said: "No." I didn't really understand it, until she continued: "I'm not gonna cry. I'm trying to go at least two minutes without crying." My heart was in shambles, and nothing even happened yet.
She started by telling us an e-mail is not how she wanted us to find out. She wanted to tell us herself, but not until today, probably not until the end of class, even though she's known for quite a long time she wanted to leave. She didn't tell us, because she wanted these last days not to be chaotic, so we could still focus and do our best in class. There were signs, though. And I should have known. There's one in basically every post I wrote this year. Funny thing is, when I told you about how she was with the girl from the other class and I thought something was up, it was only my gut feeling. She hadn't told them yet. Only in the last 20 minutes of that double class.
She also told us who will be replacing her, just to get the professional part quickly over with. V said she expects us to treat them fairly, even if she won't be here to check on us. We keep this promise. Most of the time, it works.
Being a teacher doesn't pay well, and here, in our country, the profession itself is not respected the way it should be. 10 years of experience in the field means nothing, she said. The new education system is horrible, unbearable, and she's had enough of feeling like she's in a toxic relationship. Not with us, with teaching. She said she used to feel very anxious when she got here, and by now I know what she hadn't told us in that moment, that she still doesn't feel good thinking about school. She has to leave for her own sake, even though she feels incredibly guilty about it. Even though she'll miss us.
She said, through tears, constantly stopping to take a deep breath and gather her thoughts, that teaching is something she was planning to do her whole life long, but she has to step back now. Even though she has "the seniors, standing before their graduation exams, [us], whom [she's] bonded with", she can't do it anymore. And when one of the girls asked her if she really did love us, she said: "Would I have stayed so long if I didn't?"
We spent long minutes in class discussing the education system, and when I said I didn't know about something that supposedly came from the weaker one of the theatre universities here at home, V was surprised that I hadn't read it. She called me a nickname again, a new one. I've been babygirl and I've been fairy bug before, but not once have I been the name that translates to "my life". Spanish speakers, it's like when you guys say mi vida to someone you love. That's what V called me. I don't remember her ever having called someone that in class.
Between classes, Bandana Friend, who was sick, joined us via video call to speak to V, as she really wanted to say goodbye, at least like this. I stood right beside V as they spoke, out of the camera's sight, unlike my classmates, constantly goofing off in the background, making both V and my friend laugh a little. As I stood there, I couldn't help but marvel at V's eyes from up close, in the light. I don't think I've ever seen a more enchanting eye colour before, and I find nearly every pair of eyes I see pretty. Seriously, I wasn't overexaggerating in any of my posts. If you once catch her eye, you won't know when to stop looking.
After a while, though, my classmates got a bit much, still during the call, and there I was, gathering bravery and doing something I've never done before. I stroked V's arm for a second or two, like I've wanted to so many times before, to show sympathy. She didn't even look at me, didn't even flinch, she probably knew who was touching her. And, seeing how unresponsive, how calm she was about it, I couldn't help but think: "Is this something I could've done this whole time?"
Before the second class with her started, Debate Friend called her a derivative of her first name (though she made sure to say Miss with it), and V just told her not to be rude. Hours pass, and V lets her (and us all, indirectly) call her by her first name, which is something we're still adapting to, but I'm rushing too far ahead, let's slow down a little.
The second class went well, she wasn't crying anymore, on the contrary. We laughed a lot, she told us her honest opinion on a lot of us, who asked her what she thinks of them, and gave advice if needed. I didn't ask. I figured that if she wants to tell me something, she will. Then a very crazy chain of events happened.
She looked like she was gonna tear up again, and I couldn't sit and watch anymore. I stood up and walked right in front of her, not daring to ask for a hug, but hoping she'll get the message with arm gestures. It took her a bit, but when she did, she couldn't help but yell something that I would translate to: "[Specs] is jumping me!". The word she used here is something usually used in a romantic or flirty context. (Translation was never my forte.) You can probably imagine the laughter, and also my face as I realise that not even on her last day could she go without sassing me at least once.
But then. Oh, then. The next thing I hear as I turn towards her is as she says: "C'mere, Little Me." and before I know it, I find myself sobbing in her arms again, and thinking about how this happened. She seemed taken aback by or uncomfortable with the comparison the last time we spoke about it in March, before the quarantine. When did she accept it, or how? Now as I re-read that post, as I'm writing this one... could the turning point have been me calling her my sister? I had so many questions, but all I could do was cry.
Class was nearing the end when I finally managed to stop sobbing and ask her one thing I've been meaning to for ages: what her tattoos mean. "How much should I go into detail?" she asked with sparkling eyes. She wasn't even surprised I knew about the two on her shoulder blades — but I was, when she motioned with her fingers she actually had three. Before telling me about them, she jokingly said something along the lines of "I'm not gonna strip for you" (as all 3 are covered by clothes), and me being me, I immediately threw my hands up, face probably red, and said: "Nononononono, obviously [not]!"
Funny thing is, the two on her shoulder blades are actually quotes from the last book she had us read, the last thing we discussed with her in class on Wednesday. So this is what she meant when she said she had personal connections to it! After she told me which parts they're from, she jokingly added "Very English teacher [of me]...", to which I just laughed and responded "Yeah, very."
By the time I'm writing this, I already had to listen to the headmaster, one of V's replacements, as he bragged about knowing of these two tattoos. Heh. That's cute. It's still 2-1 to me, sir. Not only have I seen them partially before, which you said you haven't, but I also know about the one she most definitely never told you about. And the one I'm most definitely not gonna tell you guys about. Sorry. Some things just have to stay between V and I.
"Also, no one noticed that this is the first time since I came here that I've worn a band T-shirt!" she complains to me jokingly. "Well, I was used to your graphic shirts, so I didn't think much of it," I reply. She's very enthusiastic in telling me what exactly is on it, without me even asking. This woman put on a shirt that essentially disses Christianity — in a religious school. Unbelievable. I love her.
Somewhere around that time, I asked her to let me walk with her to the teacher's lounge, Bookworm Friend convinced her to take a photo with our squad (which had basically everyone I know, my own father included, telling me we look identical), I stroked her arm again (I no longer remember what the reason was, but she still must've felt it pretty natural, seeing she didn't react), and like 3/4 of the class came to hug V goodbye. Meanwhile, another girl I've been classmates with for ages, but never particularly liked, hugged me to try and comfort me. It caught me off-guard, but I've never felt more like our class is a community.
People from other classes came to talk as she walked outside, but I waited until she was alone, and most probably so was she. She promised, likely knowing that I wanted to talk privately, so we didn't leave until it was just the two of us left.
"Come, Little Me," she said again, as we got going. She liked this phrase so much that she repeated it in English. "Mini Me." Then I found out why the English. Turns out, her native English speaker boyfriend, who she name-dropped like it's second nature, as if she's telling a story to a friend (she's so whipped for him, it's adorable), knows all about this comparison, and had a good laugh at it. He knows who I am. I was important enough to mention at home to her boyfriend, something I always wondered about but never dared to ask her. Tears.
No, really, actual tears. I've told you before, I don't support confessing love to your teachers while you're still their student (I'd wait a year after graduation if I were you), and especially if you're underage, and I myself wouldn't do it either. And I didn't. My confession was a little different. My voice breaking from tears, I told her the one thing I wanted her to know most. "This is not how I wanted to tell you, but I've never got more (in life) from anyone..." The answer? The old classic. "Come on."
"[Specs], you really need to get more self-confidence" she tells me, as that's about the only thing I still need to get me where I want to be. "I have to," I reply. And I do. I'm trying. Funny thing, self-confidence. It comes up in both the first and the last conversation we have as student and teacher.
We get up, stand at the top of the stairs. Soon it's time to go. The memories get a bit hazy here, but I'll try my best.
She tells me she expected me to react this way, and was afraid of it, seeing what happened in January. I immediately corrected her. In January, I cried because seeing my classmates hurting and my teachers clueless and lost hurt me, whereas this time, it's personal. She doesn't say anything. I think she understands. I ask her if she'll be happy in this new situation, and she says she hopes so. Only time will tell.
"I probably won't be available at a moment's notice all the time, but if you ever need me, you'll find me," she reassures me.
My English (language) teacher walks outside in that moment, and starts talking to V like I'm not even there. V and I are both a bit uncomfortable with the interruption, but the teacher seems pretty fine with it. Fucking hell, woman, insensitivity much?
Anyway. When she's gone is probably the moment we realise this is it. That this is where it's over.
She reaches out, both verbally and physically, and there we are, hugging again, both of us stroking the other's back in an effort to try and comfort the other. "You always have your friends," she tells me. "Get a good rest," she adds somewhere during that moment. Then we pull away.
I don't reach out, I don't dare to. As soon as I step out of her arms, it's her, who takes a hold of my hand. Not clinging, just a gentle, meaningful hold. I have no idea what she was saying, as I focused on the fact that we were only bloody holding hands in plain sight — and another thing.
V's eyes were red, and full of tears.
She hadn't shed a single tear for the past 20 minutes or so. Yet there she stands before me, physically still holding on to me, and crying. That was all me. And all of a sudden, I understand everything. I no longer have the guts to deny that she loved me all this time.
That's where it ends. No grandiose confessions, nothing loud, nothing overly passionate. Just a scene of two women standing hand-in-hand, showing their true colours and not holding anything back for the first time since they've met, before Miss V, the teacher, forever disappears behind a glass door.
These two women, mentioned above, are the ones who laid the foundation for two friends, two equals to meet anew. They are just getting to know each other all over again as we speak, setting the tone for something to start that could possibly last a long time. And I don't think there's anything that could feel better than that.

How to stay motivated when learning another language?
My advice would be to keep researching new learning methods and find the one that you find easiest to stick to. Also trying new learning methods along with your main one all the time can keep it new and interesting.
For me, Duolingo works as a main learning method because it’s competitive and I can customize in settings what kind of reminders I get and when. I also constantly check on the YouTuber Evan Edinger and have created an irrational hatred of him in my mind that keeps me motivated to someday pass him in XP points. If you follow me on Duolingo at heyitroman you can form an irrational hatred of me in your mind and perhaps aim to be better than me at duolingo lol.
Also don’t feel like you need to learn a bunch of new concepts every day. If you’re feeling fatigued by all the new information maybe spend a few days going over the basics again. Stuff that you know really well by now or things that you’ve almost memorized but not quite.
And if you have a friend that is a native speaker of the language or is conversationally fluent in it, tell them about it and maybe ask them to ask you about your progress sometimes. Multilingual people love talking about languages and helping other people learn. I’ve got some friends in Mexico City that text me sometimes and we have very simple conversations about cat memes in Spanish and that keeps me motivated because someday I want to have more complex conversations about cat memes with them in Spanish.
Watching videos and reading articles about countries where your target language is spoken or the communities that use it if it’s a conlang or dead language can also serve as a pretty good motivator. I like to remember all the Spanish and German literature I’m gonna get to read once I get better at them. Traveling in Latin America and huge chunks of Europe someday without a translator also keeps me motivated. I especially can’t wait to visit my friends in Mexico City someday and make fun of them for eating quesadillas without cheese.
My grandma is also a lifelong learner of French and what she does when it’s time to travel to Europe and she needs to review is make post it notes in French and label things around the house. She also has a lot of audio programs like Pimsleur that she listens to in the car. So if you’re more into passive learning and just want enough to ask basic questions and the like stuff like that might keep you motivated because it’s easy and doesn’t involve as much work on your part. Also writing your vocabulary by hand is helpful anyways no matter how you do it.
Most importantly remember that the conversationally fluent in three months thing is a myth, especially if you are learning a new language for the first time, have never learned a new language as an adult, or can’t afford to immerse yourself in the language for long periods of time. People that become conversational in a language in less than six months are generally already fluent in at least a few languages, are frequent travelers or live in a city with a lot of languages like NYC, and have language learning as their main hobby if not their job. Don’t get discouraged if it takes you a very long time. Just know that when you’re learning a language it just eventually becomes apart of your life. Like a new pet or a tv show you look forward to every week. Eventually you might even reach a point where your life will feel weird without it.
Remember you can do it, even if it takes a long time. You can do it!

How to correct someone’s non-native language
I see a lot of posts about “How DARE you correct someone’s English when you don’t even speak a foreign language?!?!?!?!”
Often preceded by an image of some dumb American correcting an immigrant who’s just trying to get through their goddamn day.
And yeah. Don’t do that. Don’t be a dick.
But here’s the thing!
I teach ESL, and many of my students bemoan the fact that none of the Americans they interact outside of class ever correct their English, even though my students know that their English is not perfect. Their coworkers might laugh at them sometimes, but never correct them.
“How can we improve our English if no one tells us what we’re going wrong!” they cry.
The laughing, of course, is the biggest issue. If you laugh at someone’s speech, you’re probably an asshole, unless that person is your president or something, and then go right ahead. Punching up is fine, punching down makes you an asshole. For my students, though, they just want to know WHY they’re being laughed at.
So it got me thinking. Most of us don’t want to be assholes (I assume), so how can we help non-native speakers out without being an asshole?
1: Ask permission first, or listen for them to request correction. If they don’t want it, never ever give it. Some of my advanced, professional-level students complain about excessive, nit-picky correction. Don’t do that, either.
1a: It’s okay to ask for clarification if you don’t understand what someone is saying. Just like you would with a native speaker.
2: Get to know the person, even just a little bit. Correction from a trusted coworker is different than correction from some rando at the grocery store checkout.
3: Try to offer correction one-on-one. Very few people appreciate having their errors pointed out in front of others. This is especially true if other people have been laughing, or if the person said something offensive without meaning to.
4: Do not offer correction when the person is busy with another task. Thinking about another language takes mental work. I’ve heard that operating in a foreign language takes 14x as much energy as operating in one’s native language. That could be bullshit, but it is very tiring. Let people focus on one thing at a time.
5: Pay attention to the context and topic. If you’re just shooting the shit with the usual “How ‘bout that Washington Football Team?” it’s probably okay to point out an error. However, if your coworker is ranting about a fight they had with their mom, or describing how they dropped out of school in 4th grade because roving gangs kidnapped and murdered kids on the way to the school....
Don’t even fucking think about mentioning grammar then. Same rule applies when talking with native speakers, too, actually.
6: Focus on important corrections. If someone says “My father gave me an advice,” everyone still understands them. However, if they say they attended a “manifestation,” people could be confused. I had students who pronounced Coke as “cock.” That’s definitely something they appreciated me correcting.
7:  Be understanding, always. Language learning is a bitch for adults - ALL adults, no matter our social class or education level. English is especially convoluted. Don’t tell your worker that a rule is “easy” even if it seems so to you. Understand that they might make the same error even after you’ve corrected them. That’s normal. We do it when we speak other languages, too. And on that note....
8: (And this is my favorite one) Learn some of their language too! Language learning can be fun, and now your coworker can laugh at all of YOUR errors just as people laugh at them for theirs! You can honestly sympathize with them when you’re struggling to remember verb conjugations and you can’t master the Spanish R or the Mandarin tones to save your life.
And also, learning another language, even just part of one, makes you less likely to be an asshole. And no one wants that.

Random question that doesn't have to do with Coin and Harvey, but I'm really curious lol. How did you learn the different languages you know? Were you just taught them as you were growing up, did you take classes for them, did you do it on your own? Do you have any tips for somebody wanting or trying to learn a different language? Also, I absolutely adore your art like holy friggin frigg dude- I love Harvey so much and I love how you draw him, and him and Coin are just mMm aLso, happy holidays!
Okay, that ask was a surprise HAHA Didn’t know that people were curious about my life as well but I don’t mind at all 👀
Hm, well I only know three languages which are German, English and French. German is my native language and I had my first English classes at school in 3rd grade. (I don’t know if that’s normal for every state in Germany or school, but my elementary school did that) The “real” English classes started in 5th grade for me and I graduated in English in 12th grade, so I had 7 years of English lessons.
That being said, my English would never be that good if I only learnt it at school HAHA I joined the internet community at a very young age and since English was/is the main language, I learnt very fast and soon had A’s if you count grades as something concerning language level 🤷
As for French, I had to decide between Latin and that and chose the first option. I ALSO graduated in French and had lessons from 6th grade to 12th grade, so one year less. It’s very rusty, though and kind of embarrassing, oof. I had A’s as well but that’s nowhere near my knowledge NOW. I forgot a lot and the last time I properly spoke any French was almost three years ago. I still understand most of the things people say, I can watch children’s shows without any problems but I have a very hard time speaking it. I’m hoping that this’ll change soon since I’m probably going to study in France next year ✌️
I’m debating whether I should learn a 4th language because why not but I’m not sure yet. Might do it, might not, even if I won’t really need it. I can also read some Italian and Spanish because I know French and I understand some Dutch since it’s very similar to German.
I tried to learn Tagalog on my own but there’s basically no lessons for German native speakers. The only thing I found was a PDF that someone made but it only covered the very basics anyway. If I ever decide to try again I’d have to search for English - Tagalog books. Lol, I wouldn’t exactly say I’m fluent in English and I’m sorry to every native speaker that had to listen to my weird accent 😂
As for tips, watching videos on youtube helped me a lot with my English! That’s also what I used to do before any French exam, I watched a few episodes of cartoons and that was all I really did. It really depends, though which language you want to learn and what your native language is I think. For example, when we had to write essays in French I always translated what I wanted to say from English, since that was WAY easier for me than trying to translate it from German to French. Sounds weird and kind of complicated but that was what worked best for me and I’m in language chaos anyway, so I’m not sure if that’s an advice I would take HAHA
Another thing to keep in mind is that it’s a lot easier to forget a language when you’re never confronted with it. I’m still good at English because I read and listen to it everyday but I almost never read or hear anything in French. That’s also one of the main reasons why I’m not really capable of speaking it anymore.
Yadda, yadda this got way too long but thank you so much for liking my art, I can’t stress that enough!! And happy holidays to you, too!

Nipsey’s Homegoing.
Tumblr media
I should start by saying that I’ve always had a habit of turning in my homework assignments late, but with that being said it’s been a year and nine days since they laid Nipsey Hussle to rest. I am proud yet devastated still to say that I witnessed the event during the burial of Nipsey at Angelus Funeral Home which is why it took me a year to write this essay on the series of events that have taken place post-burial and burial due to disbelief and observing the “Nayborhood” of which young creatives and artists of African Americans and Spanish American descent called Leimert Park. Since then the Los Angeles community, especially the Crenshaw, Leimert Park community has taken initiative to make sure his legacy is remembered in the same magnitude as when the sudden death of Tupac Shakur passed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It all started with a staph infection on my right index finger. I was at Ten Goose Boxing gym around the Van Nuys area and what I thought to be a callus was a staph infection. I called the ambulance and the paramedics said fuck me to me…. “We only help with real emergencies'' quotes the paramedic. I wanted to say “fuck you!” but due to my overly polite and gentleman-like nature, I decided not to say that towards the young man. I was in excruciating pain to the point where I could barely go to sleep at night, and it was going on for a week straight! Yeah in all reality fuck that paramedic and word of advice never put on boxing gloves that someone before you use without tape on your hands. There is a side of me that understands that everybody has a job but also that's where the nativity part as well. The part that doesn't want to question the authority of someone more qualified in a specific field or area of knowledge that I am not, but then again withholding the rebellious nature quote on quote smart ass tendencies of mine might have saved me from a traumatic experience, and more than likely saved my life. The situation itself was a tragedy for the ones who grew up in the Crenshaw community, and the ones who lackluster in the leadership and entrepreneurship of the young mogul who was only thirty-three during his untimely death Nipsey Hussle.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I was living on 69th and Crenshaw during the time of his pre-execution. During that time I was homeless and had no other place to go. Luckily for me, I found a nice and stable living condition suited for me. The only thing I had to do was share a room with a young man by the name of Tyrik, in which afterward we ended up splitting ways on a bad note. Hey, you win some and you most certainly lose some. I’m still learning as I go but then again my learning experiences since I’ve started living in Los Angeles have mostly been a learning experience. Some filled with heartbreaking remembrances from the past. As I decided that I wasn’t going to lie around in my misery any longer I finally made the trip to Dignity Hospital. At the time I wasn’t driving in terrible L.A traffic so I usually take the Metro buses and trains almost everywhere I go, occasionally an I take an Uber depending on how much money I have because in my personal opinion it’s been really hard to maintain employment plus I never really been an expert on saving money. I spend it as it touches my fingertips. As I was riding the bus down Crenshaw I saw a group of people in the Crenshaw & Slauson shopping district as well as Leimert Park. At first, I was wondering what could be going on today but then again I paid it no mind because yet again I was in pain. After I left the hospital bandage up I went explore DTLA ( Downtown Los Angeles) until 7 o'clock then I made my way back home. I stopped at a McDonalds to get some water and I overheard a group of people stating that Nipsey Hussle has been killed. I couldn’t come to believe it to be true the first time I heard it so I asked the clique who was standing next to me y at the soda machine. I asked the young lady from the group if it was true if Nipsey had been killed and she told me “ yeah Nipsey got shot earlier today”. I couldn't believe what I heard. The feeling was similar to when Malcolm X was assassinated. It was like they killed Malcolm. I couldn’t believe it. It was a sad walk home. When I got the channel was on the news and broadcasters weren’t wasting time to tell the breaking news Nipsey Hussle was shot and killed in his store. It was such a tragedy for me to watch. A man business mogul was shot and killed in the same community he was trying to uplift. I was deeply saddened by this. During the next following day, there was a memorial site built in his name on the corner of Crenshaw & Slauson. I saw art & graffiti murals, bottles of empty Hennessy, and fans wrote letters to the late rapper. I would say it was peaceful to get together. I have spoken with motivational speaker 19 keys and some notable NOI members like Rizza Islam. I left the memorial and walked home because it was right down the street from where I was staying. When I got back home my roommate asked me if I was alright. I responded comically and said, of course, I’m alright why? That's when he told me there were just shooting at the memorial site.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The next following day the neighborhood had certain sensitivity in the air. I talked to a woman who told me that some people in the Rolling 60’s gang who are affiliated with Nipsey were looking for the executioner who was soon to be identified as a now 30-year-old gang member Eric Holder who was arrested by authorities after a two-day manhunt. She told me to be on high alert because they were on a search for him. The next following day it was reported that several of his family members were murdered at various times as acts of retaliation. When first hearing about this tragedy I can admit that I was heartbroken due to the perspective of the unbreakable black on black violence. Although Nipsey Hussle had a beautiful viewing and memorial his death is one of many in this longtime epidemic of black on black crime. A cycle that seems never-ending. I would like to take the time to learn something from the falling of Nipsey Hussle. If there's one thing I learned it's that community coming together is necessary for advancement. Whether that be for the development of the inner city or the inner being. Ermias death did not go in vain due to a man pulling the trigger. In the end he finally brought back to the district where all started. It brought life to what it's about to become to Crenshaw. Change.

Hi there, a big goal of mine is to become fluent in Greek. Do you know of any good sources that could possibly set me on that path? Thank you!
Hey! Well, I never needed to look into it so I’m not sure what would work best. I assume you mean Modern Greek. Here’s a video of a Belgian man who learned Greek and he now speaks fluently (not perfectly but impressively well) so the method and the courses he followed may be helpful to you too.
youtube
Since I can’t help much with sources here’s some general advice on what to expect, what’s easier and what’s harder. I agree with everything the man above says except maybe for one detail:
Like the Belgian also says, Greek is challenging but NOWHERE as hard as it is stereotypically believed. I’d say, Modern Greek is like difficult German that sounds like ancient Spanish (whatever that means lol). Maybe rated 3,5-4 max out of 5 in difficulty. Definitely not a 5.
If you watch youtube lessons, DON’T watch lessons by Non-Greeks or Greek Americans etc. Always opt for native Greeks otherwise you’ll never get accurate exposure to Greek pronunciation and accents. English speakers traditionally have a hard time using correct pronunciation in Greek no matter how well they know the language and vice versa. These two languages have entirely different phonetics. Greek sounds more like Spanish or Italian. Watch a lot of Greek TV shows and movies. A lot is available on youtube.
Greek is an easy language to learn on a basic level in order to communicate but quite hard to master (that’s where the notorious difficulty rumours are earned) . After you learn the alphabet and a few basic rules about double vowels and consonants and you have a lexicon next to you, you are ready to pronounce, read and understand everything. Piece of cake. Next step is listening. People think Greeks speak very quickly which is not true but it is a misonception until learners understand how syllables with open codas work in Greek. Greek words are somewhat long with usually a consonant-vowel succession and they usually end in vowels which confuses people as to where a word starts and ends. The moment you get the hang of this, the language slows down rapidly and listening becomes also very easy because Greek is spoken very clearly. Next comes syntax which is easy yet a little tricky when you have to use it yourself. Modern Greek syntax is very flexible and has no strict structure at all. You can change the place of the words based on what you want to emphasize. The tricky part is that you still need to make sense and change words accordingly with what you are trying to focus on, not just start mixing words randomly duh. Next level: vocabulary. Medium difficulty. Many words in other Indoeuropean languages derive from Greek so you’ll find similarities and it’s gonna be entertaining. Fun fact: Greek students find Vocabulary to be the easiest thing when learning other european languages exactly for that reason. What truly makes Vocabulary hard like the Belgian Greek speaker says will be my last note.Tip: when you learn a new greek word, a long one, always check its etymology. Trust me. Next level: Grammar. Okay, no lie here, you will have to work. You will have a lot of things to memorize and get used to. Greek Grammar is very similar to German Grammar, their philosophy is the same, only the greek one is more complex and harder. But both languages function in a similar way and Modern Greek has a way more flexible syntax than German. Last level: dictation. RIP. Which is why it’s much easier to understand, read and speak Greek than to actually write it. Greek dictation is a beast and most courses will probably force you to memorize all of the vocabulary with its weird as heck vowel combinations. Let me give you an example: take a word that means (he/she/it) “realises”. The word is pronounced: sinithitopií. However, it’s written “συνειδητοποιεί”. Imagine having to memorize dictation for this and words like this. However, here’s why in order to get used to greek dictation you need a good understanding of etymology and grammar. Third person verbs that end in “ee” always are written with an “ει”. From the etymology you can understand that the word is formed from the word pií which means “does”. Pií is written as ποιεἰ  so if you know this simple word you can then conclude how words that derive from it are written. Same with the first part of the word but it is a little more complex so I’m not gonna go there. In short, my advice: don’t be discouraged at all by the alphabet, reading and listening, read as many books and watch as many shows as you can (preferably with subtitles like Το Νησί (To Nisi) - The island TV show in yt) and when you start comprehending how the language works and learn words, then start delving deep into the grammar and start becoming more fluent. Lastly, Greek language does not have many irregularities and it is based on logic. Everything makes sense and has an explanation even if it initially looks weird. If you have any question on why something is like that, google it. Google is full of very good databases on greek grammar and etymology. Most sites I’ve seen are reliable. What is not at all accurate are the accent and pronunciation courses. Remember!!! ONLY Native Greek videos!!!

I am currently reading: The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien (for school), La flor púrpura by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie (also for school), A Casa dos Espíritos by Isabel Allende. I also am on goodread and my 2019 Reading Challenge is 50 books. I used to not read a lot so I set what is a big goal for me. I do not think I will actually be able to complete it but at least its motivating me to read more.
Movies and shows. I watch quite a lot of movies and shows. Right now I am watching Suits and am watching quite a lot of Almodóvar movies (in case you do not know who he is, he is a Spanish filmmaker, director, screenwriter, producer, former actor, and a genius). I also set a challenge for myself to watch 50 movie this year. I recently have surpassed the 50 movie count so yay. Some movies I have watched this year are: Too many marvel movies (last year I started liking these movies and its an obcession now), Diehard 1 and 2, Life of Brian Sabrina, Roman Holiday, Eat pray love. I am not going to tell you guys my favorite movie because I really do not have one too many to choose from. Some shows I have watched this year are: Casa de Papel, Élite, Derry Girls, Arrested Development, Game of Thrones, and Jane the Virgin (also some of these I have not finished yet ups, I switch in between shows quite a lot). Some of my favorite shows are: It Crowd, The Good Place, and The Get Down.
Photography. I love photography, I am very passionate about my work and am constantly think of ways that I can improve. Recently I have been using my dad’s old film camera and its really motivated me to work more.
Running. I am currently training for a 10k I will be running at the end of the year. I run to help my mental state (more about this later) and also because I love it and it helps me escape.
Surfing. I started surfing about three years ago. I only have classes in the summer so I am not quite good but I still decided to include this because I love surfing.
Psychology. I decided to include this because as I mentioned before I want to study psychology in college. I think everyone should try and learn as much as possible about the fields of study they are passionate about so I think its fair to include this in my interests.
Classes
I decided to share the classes I will be taking this year in case anyone needs help or has tips for a certain class.
Spanish HL (for native speakers)
IB Literature SL
Biology HL
IB Psychology HL (online course on Pamoja)
IB Applications SL
IB Art? (I signed up for business even though the class is really not for me, and am planning on changing on the first week but I am not completely sure whether I will be taking art yet.)
TOK (Theory of Knowledge)
Study Hall (I will be taking two, one for the online class and the other for extra time to study. this is recommended for IB students at my school, as IB is very demanding.)
Why I Made a Studyblr
I have had a tumblr account for awhile and a couple years ago my friend introduced me to studyblrs (specifically emmastudies). I was following these blogs through my other account and I also followed lots of fashion and art accounts. I also joined the Studying Amino app as caro2 (I did not post at all but this is where I find a lot of inspiration and motivation).
I decided to finally officially join the studyblr community and create a blog of my own for many reasons:
I struggle with a lot of thing and sharing this will help me and others (as maybe I am not the only one).
Since I have had a lot of problems related to school and studying I also have a lot of tips and solutions that could help others so that they do not have to go through what I did.
I hope to find other blogs that struggle with the same things as me so we can support each other.
I am now an IB student and I thought that maybe finding more IB students or ex-IB students online maybe we could help each other and I could survive the IB.
I want to be more motivated and happier with my studying.
What I Will be Posting About
Posts on tips (as I mentioned before I will share what has gotten me through some of the problems I have had)
Resources others can use (sometimes I come across websites that might be useful to others, I also might create organisers for myself that I might want to share)
Notes (my notes are very minimal and not very pretty but I promise to try my best to improve. there will digital and paper notes, more about this later)
Bullet journal spreads (I have had mine for a little more than a year now, it is also very minimal but works for what I need it for)
Advice (anything from mental disorders to friend problems, I promise to do my best and be there for anyone in need of help)
Personal things I wish to share (hobbies, goals I have)
And really whatever I feel like will help others, I never want to spread negative energy and dismotivate others on my blog

Journey as a pagan witch
The pagan road. It's been quite a journey for me. My grandma that raised me was a Mexican catholic. She came to the US when there wasnt many Spanish speakers and she met a Cuban lady. Cuban lady taught her about saint magic and how to cleanse with an egg and reading cards and learning some herbs from wicca books and hoodoo books in español. I read these books as early as 10 and was confused how in Catholicism they said we had only 1 God and how in a wicca book there were many, such as Aphrodite.
Then at 13 when i was an unsatisfied atheist i met a guy that showed me his book on Wicca. So i thought "this is it. It speaks to my heart!" And i started buying Llewyn books from Barnes and Noble and calling myself a Wiccan. Until at 17 i joined a site called Wiccantogether.com and learned actual Wiccans are only wiccan if they get initiated into a British Traditional Wiccan coven. So i started calling myself a neo pagan.
I got locked up and could only remember the goddess Kali and the Great Mother Goddess type figure in Wicca. It didnt help me. I kinda went agnostic but never stopped believing in witchcraft.
In 2012 i met a theistic satanist for lack of a better word and i tried to convert to please him. Learned about the Goetia but they werent for me.
Then in 2013 or 2014 i learned about Traditional Withcraft, more specifically British Traditional witchcraft and even joined a coven which i got kicked out of. But on my own time started praising Dionysus here and there after learning of Him through the first season of True Blood.
Now that I've made my devotion official, Im being led to start praising His retinue too. Which is interesting because Im finding deities like us to meet their family and friends.
Im still not calling myself a Hellenic polytheist because i believe all the gods are real somehow and i have some curiousity about Gaulish polytheism and Celtic polytheism because on my white side I have a lot of French and a little bit from the UK too. And i do read into Aztec mythology even though most of my native ancestors were Chichimec which meant in Nahuatl (sp?) "The barbarians".
Tw: r*pe
But last week a friend of mine was raped similar to how i was raped the first time. She didnt wanna report so i asked if i could curse him. A peer of mine as a Dionysus devotee tried to tell me we cant do anything for justice, not being priests/priestesses, he was coming from the tradition of Bacchic-Orphism. Not witchcraft and felt we need Foundation before becoming witches (but that dont seem to be the case with secular witches i find). He said all i should be doing right now is devotional stuff. Praying.
But i couldnt just twidle my thumbs and do nothing other than pray for healing, after i told my friend I'd curse the guy. Because these fuckers abusing the sacred drink (alcohol) to enact violence deserve to face consequences.
So i went around my peer's advice and decided "oh..but what if i devote this work to Hecate?"
It's not my first time attempting a spell that asks for a deity's help, because a lot of wicca books with spells success those kind. But it was my first time trying to ask a deity for help in a spell that was also a friend or apart of "Dionysus retinue" and i wasnt sure how it'd go.
I asked Hecate for help in it.....and i got a pretty damn creepy eye from the candle wax. I took it to mean, someone seen or heard me...this may be a sign of success. A Hellenic witch told me my first impressions are likely the meaning.
I just gotta say, it feels weird to know I've been a polytheist since 2006 but only now the gods are making themselves known in my life (my UPG, secular witches are totally my friends yo). And i imagine including deities in my magic is gonna make my magic different...but it does feel kinda good to know Hecate has seen this rapist's face and approved of my actions. God approval is pretty validating to know i did the right thing (imo).
I'd like to know other people's evolutions as a pagan and/or witch, because i dont imagine im the only one thats had quite a journey and i have met people go from polytheist to atheist.
