"You smoke?"
"Mm. Don't tell my spy, though."
"Seriously."
"Yeah, yeah, I know, it makes me sound like a kid but yeah. Seriously. They don't need the added stress. Just- promise me not to tell them?"
"If you give me one and promise not to tell mine then you've got yourself a deal."

good afternoon here's my big rant on my pet peeves for subtitles in movies and tv
This is a post that I’ve thought about making probably for years now but never got around to. I might add more later if I realize I’ve forgotten any
When it comes down to it, the purpose of subtitles is this: to reflect exactly what the audience can hear, precisely when it can be heard. If you fail to do this, your subtitles are bad and you should feel bad. Although I don’t have concrete examples for most of these off the top of my head, I promise I have experienced them all firsthand at least once.
-> Watch for spelling and typos. Obviously.
-> Syncing issues.
This should go without saying, but the captions should be synced as closely as possible with dialogue and sound effects. Subtitles that are out of sync are worse to me than no subtitles at all. They’re unbearably distracting and I have to turn them off. I’m fortunate enough that I can keep watching without them, so imagine how frustrating this is for someone who needs to keep them on no matter what.
-> Jumping the gun.
This is basically an example of out-of-sync subtitles that are slightly too fast, but it gets its own category because it ruins the viewing experience in its own unique way. In particularly dramatic scenes, actors will often draw out their lines or pause between phrases. Captions sometimes fail to reflect this by displaying the entire sentence all at once, allowing the audience to read what someone is about to say before they actually say it, which deflates all the dramatic tension of the scene.
-> Phantom captions.
This one is less self explanatory, but it’s kind of similar to syncing. Sometimes there will be significant intervals of time between lines of dialogue, especially after a scene ends and a new one begins. The interval may include music, sound effects, or complete silence, but what I’m calling a “phantom” is a caption that stays on the screen after that last line of dialogue is delivered until the next line is spoken. I don’t remember what I was watching, but there was one that was glued to the screen for SEVERAL MINUTES over what was supposed to be an atmospheric break between scenes and it drove me nuts. In my experience this happens more often with older subtitling for DVDs and some old videos and less with modern streaming.
-> Straight up spoilers.
Sometimes, a character will speak whose true identity has not yet been revealed to the audience. If I’m not supposed to know the character’s name yet, don’t just… tell me right there in the captions whenever they say something. Descriptors like “disembodied voice”, “man”/”woman”, “mysterious figure”, etc. will suffice.
-> Lack of musical descriptors.
It usually helps to describe the genre or emotion of the music that’s playing rather than just writing [music] or 🎵. That being said, if there is a song playing that’s particularly well known in the mainstream, I think it’s useful to actually include the name of the song. This one I do have a concrete example for: in Arrested Development, Gob always blasts The Final Countdown during his acts. But the captions on my DVDs for the show always describe it as [stagy pop]. Like yeah I would say that song is some pretty stagy pop, but I think a lot of the humor comes from knowing that it’s specifically The Final Countdown by Europe because it’s such a perfectly corny selection that Gob would make.
Another musical failure is not transcribing pertinent lyrics. If the song is playing in the background, then that’s understandable and it can be kind of distracting if there’s dialog happening on top of it because the audience isn’t actually meant to be paying close attention to the song. But if the song is front and center, like for a musical number or montage, then the lyrics can be pretty important. Last year when I watched Arcane on Netflix with my family (a recent, high budget production from the biggest streaming platform ever), the show had the nerve to write [man rapping] over a musical sequence. Imagine if all subtitles ever just said [person speaking] for the entire movie.
-> Affectations.
If a character starts using a silly voice or accent, or if the sound of their voice changes in any way, describe that. If the audience can hear the difference, the subtitles should reflect that difference. And they should reflect it informatively and accurately; for example, don’t just say [mock accent], but specify [mock French accent].
-> Paraphrasing.
I don’t even know why this is an issue, but it’s alarming how many times the subtitles just… straight up don’t match what the characters are actually saying. It’s like the transcriber was forced to write all the captions from memory, so they kinda sorta say the same thing, but the wording is different and some sentences or phrases are missing. When I brought this up with my mom she theorized that the transcriber was working off the script for the movie because hey, that’s all the dialogue already written down, right? But it completely fails to account for revisions, improvisation, or actors delivering their lines even slightly different than how they were originally written.
And last but certainly not least, one of the biggest offenders in bad subtitling…
-> [Speaks foreign language]
If someone says something in another language, please, for the love of god, do not just write [speaks foreign language]  and call it a day. Specifying the actual language is an improvement, but this descriptor only works if the audience members are truly not meant to know what’s being said (which is sometimes the case). If a character is only saying a single word or phrase in another language, transcribe it. As in, write down the actual words that they said. If you don’t speak that language, find someone who does. You are insane for transcribing a character saying “hola” or “abuela” in an otherwise English sentence as [speaks Spanish] (real examples I saw respectively in Rango and JANE THE VIRGIN. THERE’S SO MUCH SPANISH IN THAT SHOW).
If the audience is supposed to know what someone is saying in another language, English subtitles will usually be hardcoded. DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, LET THE CAPTION SAYING [SPEAKS FOREIGN LANGUAGE] COVER THESE UP. This is actively impeding understanding, not helping it. Jesus christ
* Please keep in mind that I’m not deaf or hard of hearing and I don’t have auditory processing disorder; I almost always watch movies and tv with subtitles whenever the option is available because it helps me absorb information better. If I don’t even strictly NEED subtitles and these are issues for me, I can only imagine how much more difficult it is for those who rely on them more heavily. I invite you to add your own perspective!!

Posting by Queue, or: why I need some distance from my crafts
It has been some time since my last hobby meta blog entry, it had different reasons and one is that I need distance. Like, yes I of course enjoy crafting and sometimes I am like a little child that runs everywhere to show off things.
But it got ... less intense. And I learned I do better when I keep projects or at least details to myself to sit on them for longer. That the first euphoria is purely mine and not to be shared.
Tumblr media
Like for my photos I have a buffer of several weeks now. Yes, I know past-me would have kind of hated that. But I learned I do better when I have a time buffer. I do take photos weekly but sometimes they don't feel special enough to get the weekly photo feature?
Friday & yesterday I went out for photos and while I like the ones from yesterday way more than the ones from friday I am not sure if the set from yesterday will get the feature or not as it's only a hand full of photos giving me that certain spark.
Other than that I am a very emotional artist, I sometimes really fuck up my art and hate it at the moment I worked on it, but then, sometimes, after a few days or weeks I can look at it and just wonder about what was my problem the day I made it.
Tumblr media
Another thing is that I, myself, enjoy my art. The process of it. And I like to see my blog updating, sometimes I forget what post will go online and then I check the blog and think "ah yes, this was that thing!", and it reminds me why I made the blog overall, to show myself I had progress and that every tiny step counts.
Which leads to another reason why I hold back in regards of posting. Yes, I do share some snippets in my stories over on insta but not always and not all. I sit on over 300 drawings from the last two years alone nobody ever will see, I enjoyed drawing but it's nothing for the public eye. I will maybe go back and redraw some and share the redraws then, who knows?
Tumblr media
But wait, there is actually more reasons.
The biggest or main reason is ... i sometimes go really wild on projects. In January I finished so many dolls it was insane, I worked on Cosplays and other crafts in an incredible speed, I have literally no idea where I found the time but I somehow did and doll parts arriving every week did the rest.
I keep the blog running with partially 2 month old stuff but .... to be honest I don't have doll stuff aside photos to do anymore. All I can do is wait for bodies to be shipped (or dolls even) and arrive. There has been no movement since January. Aside Iza getting the shipping notice for our Split, might take a while until its at her place and I can't really start on the Akuma until I got the body (which I at least have finally ordered this month) as colors need to be matched and mods to be made.
I am truly itchy to do something else than sewing all the time, I do enjoy cosplay but you know how much I like sewing (hint: not at all). So to remind myself of the fun I had in the past weeks I have mixed my blog to bless me with some progress I had which was maybe not sewing all the time. And well, the Cosplays have deadlines and I do get some ideas aside purely sewing while doing them, so that keeps me going for now.
Tumblr media
Yes, I could start redoing dolls like Alastor or Erwin. But you know what? IT'S ALMOST ALL SEWING. Urgh.
Aside that real life is pretty good at eating me up and I just want to enjoy crafting. Right now drawing feels like stress relief but I hate the results and just scan the pieces and put them away to never look at them again, I have a bunch of posts queued up without any captions, a wip entry of a current project only has two photos but I lack the spoons to actually get them done. But since those posts are so far back it's fine (yes I know drafts are a thing).
In general I enjoy having my art to myself to get used to it before I put it out into the wild as I just recently got reminded I do bad with direct comparisons still and it hits some triggerpoints from the past and makes everything harder, I don't need that.
I literally have no idea if this blog makes sense even, lol. I just am tired of sewing and stopped working on my current project around lunch time and have drawn so much today and I walked way too much the whole week my friends urged me to stay the ef home and at least try to relax. But I'm restless as my body is too stressed (I know it all I'm a certified relaxation trainer so eh), so, have an over the place blog entry.

So, because i have a love for media preservation, and recently got a VPN, I figured I could compile some stuff from websites I couldn't visit before, like the Minmie website. The Minmie website is region-locked for the US, so I'm on a Japanese server. I chose Japan because this is a region that I know Minmie products were sold in. Like the Fulla website, it's partially lost. For the same reasons as the Fulla site, too. Ruffle simply can't open a lot of the archived pages. However, because Minmie was smart, we can actually see the home page due to the site not opening on a flash-based loading screen.
Tumblr media
Much more after the cut!
This capture is from February of 2006, two years after the site was launched and six before it would be taken down. The 2004 capture's flash elements are inaccessible (but still there!), and for some odd reason the animation of Minmie and her man on the Vespa is inaccessible on every later capture.
youtube
That blue part of the background is animated, and the text scrolls. I forgot to capture it in the video I think, but the red mailbox hops up and down when you hover on it.
The top animation seems to restart after a certain amount of time.
The 10 squares at the bottom bring you these images, and they're the same in every capture.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Slightly problematic "Attack Gangster" caption aside...
It's kind of weird how low quality these are, right?? This is the official website. These images literally come directly from the page those squares lead to. Also that last one of the boy character terrifies me. Also....does the seventh image imply that the boy's name is Min and the girl's name is Mie?? It would be hella weird if it did, considering that after the DJ Min image, the name Minmie was exclusively used to describe the girl in merchandising. Because they never used the boy again. I didn't even know he existed until now.
I love Minmie's art style so I'm kind of disturbed by the way male characters look in it-
I find it really interesting the way they draw her jawline sometimes, it's very round. They only seemed to do this in the 2000s, after 2011 she had an exclusively sharp jaw.
It's surprisingly low effort on everything but those little animations and transitions, there. The pages listed on the buttons are inaccessible no matter what capture you're on, although in the October 2008 capture, the "Character" button leads to a different page with content that Ruffle can't run. This is different from the others in which the buttons don't do anything at all when you click on them on the front page's archive. The "mail" option leads to an error page in the 2006 capture, although similar to the Character page, in every other capture it doesn't do anything at all. The "Shop" option leads to a site to purchase the Minmie domain instead of an archive for some reason. The "board" button seems to have lead to either a chat room or image board, but it's not accessible from the main menu and the URL is a swf, which I can't access. There's an "about me" page in the URL tab on the archive, but nothing loads.
HOWEVER!
We still have the site map, and the site map actually gives us the pages the buttons led to.
The shop page looked like this. I don't find it necessary to screenshot all of the options on the menu because all of them are pretty much the same, just with a different title, sometimes a longer page, and different inventory (the photos of which were not archived). Although I think it's very amusing how one of the shop pages is just named "bunch of keys". The "New Product" gif's background would rapidly flash black and white.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here's the New Product pages (there's two for some reason).
New Product 1
Tumblr media Tumblr media
New product 2
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Like I said earlier, the pages look mostly the same. Because of this I only screenshotted the pages that had a different layout. Sadly the shop page is the only part archived through the site map.
Now we look to the URL tab. There's several gifs that are unavailable, and while it was also unavailable there's two gifs with the word "avatar" in their titles. This might also be nothing, though. The domain squatting sites were and continue to be archived even after the original site went down, so a majority of the URLs are from those. A lot of the old Minmie files lead to a blank or unavailable screen, however.
But back to what I did find:
There's this strange part of the site I found, and it's a menu with some futuristic graphics. It has a lot of moving parts, and buttons.
youtube
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I have no clue what any of these lead to, the URLs that have names relating to some of these buttons just lead to the menu, again. The image to the side is blocked, and there's only one date of capture for the three URLS, so for now that's a mystery. I assume the background was a repeating pattern based on the order of the missing images in the back. Green binary over a black background, perhaps?
I found parts of the index page from 2012/11. Any other captures of this iteration of the site are fully unavailable, with many of the assets meeting the same fate as the right image in the futuristic menu page. These are super cute.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The red text is an error message. The catalog has the same layout. I think the most interesting thing about this version of the site is that one of the catalog pages has an option that says "Minmie doll". I would love it if anyone could give me any insight about that.
There's two images here that show the site when it was active during the early 2010s.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Both are from @tmgc's blog.
The 2011/12 site also has Wallpapers listed. They are all unavailable. there's multiple game pages (for both versions of the site, actually) but they both have nothing at all archived.
There's some more from this version of the site, I'll reblog with those images though. There's this huge image gallery of images from several events that I won't be able to fit in here
And now, we have some comic pages! They confirm the boy and girl are named Min and Mie respectively. I refuse to ever give that idea any credibility. I put them in a webtoon-adjacent order for more convenient reading :)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[page 3-6 are missing]
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Pages 9-14 are missing]
I have a feeling I know why these pages in specific were archived...
I'm kind of pissed about this comic??? Like why put Mie all over the marketing and merch and then....do this??? I was wondering why the brand failed so bad and the site died so quick, but now I think I may have my answer? I seriously think the 2010s cutting Min out of the picture was a good thing, if he acted like this.
As stated earlier I'll be reblogging this with more images, specifically from the 2011/2012 version of the website's event image galleries.

Satanists in Jackson County? Drawing By Missing Child Sparks Fear, Concern.
(Ripley, West Virginia) A new drawing making its way around social media has caused some residents of Jackson County to question what, exactly, it is depicting. This picture was posted by Amanda Mason, age 62, to Facebook last week with the caption "MY GRANDBABY WAS KIDNAPPED BY THE ANTICHRIST". According to Amanda, this figure was found in the drawing book of her granddaughter, Nyla Davis, age 8, who is currently missing, alongside her older sister Amara Davis, age 14. Amanda also claims that both her granddaughters, who were living with her at the time of their disappearance, had been "acting distant" shortly before they vanished. The former pastor also claimed to have seen "hooded figures" outside her home at night. "I know this is The Antichrist because the Devil cannot create. He can only mutate. Pervert. Corrupt. Mock. And we know from the Good Book what The Lord is gonna look like when He comes back. And this? This is like that, but false. The Devil was an angel once. Who ever said he threw all his clothes out when he fell?" The Jackson County Sheriffs Department has dismissed Mrs. Mason's theory of her granddaughters disappearance. "These claims are utterly baseless and not worth commenting on further.", they said in a statement. "What we do know is that we have been unable to locate their (Nyla and Amara's) biological father, Zack Davis, since they disappeared. Zack Davis is a registered sex offender and a threat to children, hence why his daughters were removed from his care and placed under the care of their grandmother. If you have any information whatsoever on the location or status of either Nyla Davis, Amara Davis, or Zack Davis, please contact us or any other authorities immediately. Again, we cannot stress this enough, Zack Davis is a registered sex offender and a threat to children." When asked about the drawing during the press conference, the sheriff replied "I think its some cartoon character actually. I remember seeing my daughter looking at something that kinda looked like that. Who knows, kids draw the strangest things sometimes. Anyways, its almost certainly not relevant to this case, and is taking away attention from the real and present threat that is Zack Davis. Again, if you have any information on the whereabouts of Nyla or Amara, please contact us immediately." Nyla and Amara Davis remain lost. @magireco-minibang

how might a bird-like species wear clothes without adding too much drag and would be easy to put on and off with their wing claws and feet?
I am assuming you mean bird-like as in an anthro bird, and not as in a winged humanoid with separate arms and wings.
if you do mean humanoids with both arms and wings, I have some posts about winged people and clothing in my pinned masterpost.
but for birds, let's look at how flexible bird legs and bodies actually are.
Tumblr media
(image description: a meme image of a peregrine falcon holding one leg up with the talons clenched, resembling a fist. it's captioned "victory" in all caps. end description.)
you may have seen this image before lol, it's an old meme. Birds actually do a bit of preening with their feet, as it's the only way they can reach their head without help.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(image description: the first is a photo of a penguin, bending over and lifting a leg, making its body look a bit contorted, so it can scratch the top of its head. The second image shows two drawings of a small bird scratching its head, with one drawing showing the wing still folded and the leg being lifted forward. the other drawing shows the wing bending forward while the leg is lifted behind it. end description.)
the drawing there is from stanford, so here's the connected article talking about birds and head scratching.
So as long as they manage to keep any clothing or accessories from disrupting their ability to fly, I think bird-like people could easily use their beaks and feet to dress themselves. Though having assistance wouldn't be out of the question either. Could be very normal in their culture to help each other put things on. Bird harnesses are a real life thing too, and sometimes they come in costume form! so you can look that up to see how the clothes might have to be structured to accommodate the wings.
hope that helps!

Is Lucian poc? I get confused by some peoples talks about the matter. He is initially compared to looking lkke Beron in the first book. But then in book 3 Feyres says he looks like Helion. So to me..he reads as white passing, because I imagine Beron would have killed him off if he was visibly not his. I don’t know. I’m confused. I’d appreciate your input?
To sum it up, Lucien is 100% a POC!
Now to further discuss. I understand your confusion because SJM retconned that. We were told something in book 1 that didn't line up with information presented to us in later books and sometimes your first impression of a character sticks in your head.
Here's the thing though. My little sister is adopted (originally from Guatemala). I'm Caucasian and pale to the point that you can see my veins pretty much all year long (not a good look, let me tell you). My oldest sister, who I am blood related to) has red hair and Amber eyes. My half brother has blue eyes and blond hair. But because my adopted sister and I both share brown hair and brown eyes, we're told we look the most alike and she's been told she looks like our mother without people knowing her background.
She really doesn't look like either one of us but sometimes we humans do this little thing where we like to draw comparisons to what we're familiar with even when we're totally wrong. So it could be said that Feyre, having no awareness of Lucien's real father as it's later revealed, saw Lucien standing next to a man and drew conclusions because she didn't know any better. Not to mention Lucien is mixed. His mother is white (from everything we've been told). When you have someone who is mixed, they can look a whole lot like one parent, a lot like the other parent or a combination of the two. I've seen a bunch of Tik Tok videos of a POC holding what is an extremely pale baby with blonde hair and blue eyes. The captions say they constantly are told their baby must be adopted when they are in fact their biological child. That baby, regardless of which parent they favor in looks is still a POC and will grow up being proud of the race that they received from each parent even if they only look like one of them.
Even though we can provide real world explanations for why Feyre was mistaken in book 1, I think the simple fact is that SJM ended up realizing she needed a new storyline for Lucien. Whether that was because she decided Elain would be his mate and she knew Elain wasn't destined for the Autumn Court or whether she decided she wanted Eris to have a bigger role so she needed to free up the Heir to the Autumn Court Throne, I'm not sure. But she definitely switched his appearance up and that is the one we now should be holding on to as canon.
It doesn't seem like a lot of the characters have suspected at this point so I understand why readers have a difficult time imagining exactly how he looks. Lucien himself doesn't seem to question who his actual father is (though maybe we'll find he suspected in later novels). Feyre and Rhys being face to face with Helion and Lucien managed to put it together but so far it seems they are the only ones and now that they've seen it they can't unsee it so it's become completely obvious to them. Regardless that they are the only ones who have admitted to knowing, that doesn't change that he's a POC though. Even if he looked 100% like the LOA (because, like I said before, people can strongly resemble one parent from a mixed couple), he is a POC. We know he has Helion's nose and smile and a darker coloring that his brothers.
I believe @moononastring made a really great post on how Helion might be of Egyptian descent though I apologize if I am not remembering that correctly. All I can say is whoever he looks like or whether he's a perfect blend of the two, our boy lucked out in the gene pool.
As far as Beron suspecting, they did briefly touch on this in the books. There's a good chance he knows Lucien isn't his (which is why he's always treated him horribly) but to draw attention to it would mean admitting to everyone that his wife stepped out on him which would be more than his ego could bear.

Had a dream where your blog showed up at one point and there was actually a really neat concept in it and I figured I’d share bc you were the inspiration. So in the dream I was looking at ur blog and the top three posts were some picture of text reading THOAMES in all caps with an error line under it, a drawing of ghetsis with the words “fuck you” written on it, and the cool part, a drawing of hilda getting her hair done by professor sycamore (idk why him, it might’ve actually been N with black hair? dreams are weird) while they were both sitting, where her hands had black marking on them that you said were left by the black stone. The fingers looked like they were covered in charcoal. Also the caption said something about how “I’ve come to the realization that ‘what if everyone was a little bit boyfriend sometimes’ is actually incredibly based at times” and in the tags you said that “his stone carrying thing is going to be one of the most annoying things I’ve ever drawn” (referring to hilda I think?)
at one point when I was dreaming I think I saw the hilda art and sat frozen for a moment before my brain went “hey cool it’s milesverse artstyle” so I think that might have been a compliment? I hope it was, your art is very shaped (<-the highest honor I can bestow)
anyways sorry for the word dump this is just the first time I’ve remembered a dream long enough to write something down about it. The rest of the dream was me starring in a surreal first person fnaf game with no animatronics but that’s not the part that’s relevant to you so don’t worry about it
HELP?!?????!?????! i have infected your brain with THOAMES and hilda what if everyone was a bit boyfriend
this is completely incomprehensible im going to draw these now thank you

Doodle Dump (Misc)
Notes + Captions below
1) Space Kicker NSR Portrait. I did do 1 more RH x NSR style portrait, but I really don't know how many more I'm gonna do. I just really don't know what the purpose of it would be.
2) Amalgamation. G&W doodle.
3-6) This was my original idea for White and G&W when I was asking for characters that y'all associate with me. The point of that game was just to give me a break in between working on Kun3h0, so didn't want to turn it into a whole "thing." As you can probably figure, the script is incomplete. Sometimes I write it before I start drawing, but usually I make it up as I go for one-shots like this.
Captions:
G&W: Yo! We're back from-
G&W: Ah. I wonder when I lost him.
NJ: How many times are you going to lose each other?!
Red: But we brought one back this time!
7) Magical Ness. Does anyone else remember the Smash Bros Mahou Shojo project? Sometimes I do. I doubt I'll ever truly "complete" it, but I would like to at least finish a drawing in the series someday.
Anyway, I can't remember what Ness's special attack was called (probably "Rockin'" something. How about "Rockin' Strike"?).
8) Doodles of my Goatlings HA Buddy. I've been wanting it draw it so I can put it on my profile, but I've been really lazy about actually finishing it.
9) Kun3h0 Stretch. I had the idea of animating a couple of "Coffee Break" animations for my BRBs, with the idea that they'd be reminders to look after your personal health (take a stretch, drink some water, have a snack, etc.) I dunno if I'll actually make 'em all, but I like the idea.
9) Star Bunny. I've also been playing with the idea of depicting the other characters in Kun3h0's game for some mock splash screens. When I started finalizing Kun3h0's design, I had the idea that she was actually a part of a trio with the other 2 being themed after the star and moon respectively to represent GAB's other two buttons. This was an idea for the star bunny.
But, I clearly didn't think this through enough because I don't know what their names would be: they're all based on bunnies, but I can't call them all Kun3h0 >_<, unless I wanna go the 1010 route and just refer to them by their symbols.
Or maybe I can base the other two on different animals? I dunno yet.

Art Summary and Art vs Artist 2022
2022 Art Ramblings and Other Shenanigans:
A.) I am not speed
Whenever artists wanna try something new to improve their art, we tend to make big drastic changes right away. This can be effective for others but not for everyone. As you can see, my art style is still the same as last year with minimal tweaks.
I decided that if I'm gonna make improvements, I'm gonna do it gradually instead of incorporating them all at once. This can be a big help in maintaining consistency. If the changes were small, we can easily remember and apply them on our next artwork.
“So is it effective? Did your art improve?”
It’s barely noticeable but yes it did. I like the direction in which my art progress is currently going. I am at the point where I actually like my finished work more than my sketch. You know that meme where artists like their sketch more than their finished work bec it looks better? I don’t feel like that anymore and that surely tells something haha.
B.) I failed successfully
Last year, I made a pseudo new years' resolution where I said "I hope I can draw my ships, anime and original stuff" since I mostly did Genshin. Well, I successfully drew my ships, anime and original stuff this year HOWEVER I made less videos lol.
I tried doing 1-2 artworks in between videos but sometimes the artwork took me longer to finish so I wasn't able to make video content afterwards. Another thing was the fact that I sorta dedicated some months tryna help save our country but in the end we failed miserably... Anyways! Let's not talk about that here.
Even though I made less videos, I managed to make 2 impactful videos which contributed a lot to my channel's growth this year. One of them is now my most viewed video.
C.) I wanna delete everything
Checking other artists' IG accounts makes me want to turn my account into an art only account. But then again I know I'll be having the urge to shitpost and post irl stuff every now and then so as much as I wanted to be one of those mysterious artists who only post/talk about their art, I can't lmao.
I feel like there's a lot of pressure on the artists who only post art related stuff bec people will always be expecting you to post art or even if they don't, you yourself might think they expect you to. And this kinda contributes to being burnt out somehow.
Whenever I am on the verge of deleting everything (except art) I remind myself that it's fine even if I ain't one of those cool artists accounts. I am human and I do other human activities too besides drawing. It's like taking a breather I guess.
"Make 2 accounts, one art and one personal"
Not everyone has the capacity to manage 2 accounts in one platform when you’re already managing other accounts on other platforms. Even if you did, most people who followed you for your art won't give a fuck about your personal one which kinda defeats the purpose haha.
I know this is not applicable to all artists, especially the professionals/veterans. But for hobbyists like me, maybe you should consider this. I am not forcing you to post personal stuff bec I know not everyone likes that. I'm just saying that it's important to emphasize every once in a while to your audience that you are human too and not just an art producing machine.
D.) I miss time traveling
Long time ago, during my Deviantart days, I used to type a bunch of shit in the description box of my artworks. Then came the Tumblr era where I continued to blog my heart out. When these platforms "died" and Twitter and IG migration happened, I slowly stopped doing this without me noticing it.
I still say things on Twitter but since there's a limit and making threads is a pain in the ass, I ain't as expressive as before. And these platforms (Twitter and IG) made me adapt to its "culture" of short tweets/captions or sometimes nothing at all, just pictures. Which was great! I mean not everyone needs to know your entire business on the interweb right lol.
But as time passed by, I began to realize that I love backreading (I dunno if this is the right term) whatever shit I used to talk about in the past. It's actually amusing no matter how cringe, happy or lonely it was. However, since transferring to Twt and IG, I can no longer go back to a certain period in my life to reminisce what the hell I was thinking, doing and feeling that time because I got nothing to backread and that made me kinda sad?
Even though I am still bad with words, I am trying my best to resurrect my old self here in IG (just less cringe and more careful this time). Don’t worry I am not going to make long posts everyday lmao.
"Nobody's gonna read all that"
True. HOWEVER my future self would and I think that's more important. It's the same as writing in your diary, you write for yourself first and foremost.
“Why don’t you just go back to Tumblr to blog”
My time on Tumblr has passed. Whatever good or bad memories I have there, I just wanna keep them as they are and no longer add some haha. I still love the platform and post my artworks there tho.
Conclusion:
Art progress and channel growth did great this year. Tho I fell short in terms of quantity of my video content, the quality compensated. I am not gonna make any pseudo new year’s resolutions this year. All I can say is I have a lot of ideas and I hope I can execute them.
Before I end this, I just wanna say hi to my future self. I know you’re reading this again for the nth time. Maybe you’re feeling sentimental or just bored as usual haha. Nevertheless I hope you’re doing well.
Happy New Year everyone! Stay safe and see you on my next video~
Jacq out.
P.S. Fuck AI generated images.

your description post is really lovely! however, as someone who needs descriptions and doesnt use a screenreader, tumblr alt text still isnt accessible enough for alt-only descriptions to be the most accessible option. the alt text box that pops up is eye straining on many themes, even default, and isnt viewable on all devices. there are also several bugs with alt on tumblr, like one where screenreaders stop reading the rest of it after a certain point or even not at all, so personally i still elect to put my description in the body of the post if i can help it since it guarantees access to as many who need it as possible. ultimately any description on there is better than none, but even if u move to alt only, people will likely still copy and paste ur descriptions into a reblog for reasons like these
This is actually a great example of the importance of context when choosing what type of descriptions to use!
I personally have similar issues with reading long text, but on my art blog I choose to use short alt-text instead of body-text descriptions because I am a visual artist and the most important information in most of my works is the visual stuff. I follow folks who post photos of book pages. In those cases, it's important to get a full transcription because the information is either text-based, or a graphical representation of a concept that can be put into words. As you point out, paragraphs of writing in the alt-text are hard on the eyes and not best practice. (But WTF at Tumblr cutting off descriptions and not supporting all devices?)
In the case of visual art, though, the most important information often cannot be translated directly into text. When I draw a picture of a pansy, it's not just a "drawing of a pansy," but the feelings created by the way I chose to draw it. I want the viewer to look & experience the colors, shapes, textures, etc before looking to me for a spoon-fed explanation of what it is or what it means. It's like how art teachers will bring you on a museum field trip and tell you to look at the painting before reading the caption next to it. Sometimes people talk about "prioritizing aesthetics over accessibility," but I think we also need to take seriously that sometimes the imagery is what needs to be spotlighted.
Personally, I balance these competing needs by using alt-text instead of body-text descriptions, but it's not the One Right Answer.

hey, im the anon that sent the (other) long ask. the stuff on your other blog is fun! and you can definitely see your improvement from then to now. I especially love your sculptures and the potion box you made is so cool.
I second what another anon said about adding lyrics, or maybe some story in the caption to make the art come alive. for example, drawing frank in some speedos would be hot, but adding 'he only goes swimming to stare at lifeguards all day' or something dumb like that turns the art into a character, instead of just frank in speedos. it adds personality to an otherwise flat 2d character. it leaves things to the imagination.
I understand the pressure that wanting to make money from your art puts on you - I want to make money from my writing one day, but I know that in the creative industry it's mostly about luck. I know you've tried Instagram, but have you tried other ways to broaden where you post/the audience you're trying to reach? try posting to twitter for a month, or try making progress posts on tiktok. I know it's shitty, but if you're serious about making money from it you have to throw a lot of shit at the wall and see what sticks. I think looking at what has been successful for you so far and replicating elements from those pieces would be helpful too - what did people say in the tags? what kind of blogs reblogged it? what are other 'popular' artists in the fandom doing?
I know it's so easy to get worn down, and it sounds like you're having a really hard time with this. I'm not your therapist, but I strongly recommend taking some time out of posting if it's affecting you a lot. draw some stuff that you have no intention of anyone else seeing, stuff that you want to keep all to yourself, and see how creating that makes you feel.
you ARE good enough, your art is truly incredible and you've clearly worked hard to get your skill level so high - maybe your posts just need tweaking, or maybe you just haven't found your audience yet. I wish you all the best, and I hope you take this all as constructive ❤️❤️
Thanks.
I don't know about Twitter for the mcr stuff, because the idea of Frank stumbling on all my drawings of him is terrifying. But maybe I could try it with my other stuff, if Twitter doesn't completely fall apart as a website. I've never actually posted on Twitter before so I'd have to learn how exactly it works. And how to avoid the kinda stuff I saw last time I tried checking out mcr stuff on Twitter.
My stuff that does the best seems to be the stuff with some sort of joke or punchline, but I don't know how to be funny on command. I didn't sit down and try to come up with silly ideas, the silly ideas just happened on their own and then I drew them. So if I'm going to try to do more of that then I need to learn how to be funny, without it looking like I'm trying to be funny. Also there's no guarantee that any joke will land, it's a gamble every time. But it at least gives people more motivation to hit reblog.
My problem with comedy is that to be marketable I'd need to be a silly birthday party clown, but I always end up as one of those sad black and white clowns.
I want to try new things, but also there's the fear of "what if this doesn't work? What if I try everything possible and still fail? What do I do then?"
People don't really say much of anything in the tags besides a vague "this is great!", if they even say anything at all. It's hard to guess what they liked about it, if there was even anything in particular they liked and they didn't just reblog it to be nice. It's usually the same few blogs that reblog my work, and I do appreciate it, but sometimes I wonder if I'm not really that good and that's why there isn't a lot of different blogs or blogs that don't already follow me who reblog my stuff.
The popular artists are all drawing Gerard, but I don't think that there's anything I could draw of just Gerard that hasn't already been done better by someone else. I drew Joan of arc Gerard but nobody was all that into it. Probably because I was trying to emulate a specific style from one of my favorite comics and I don't think I did that great of a job. But yeah I don't have any Gerard ideas for drawings, and I'm not a Gerard centric blog so anyone who follows me for that would be disappointed.
I've done little comics with multiple band members but I don't know if doing more of those would help or not. Maybe, but I'd have to come up with ideas. Also it's hard for me to draw Ray and Mikey without accidentally turning then into my brothers because they look similar.
I need to make my drawings less stiff and polished and I meed to be funnier. If that doesn't work then I'll officially be out of ideas.

looking into a bedroom window
i left tumblr after the great porn exodus of however many years ago. the modern day burning of the library of alexandria if your literature was black and white gifs of aesthetically attractive men pumping and fucking. oh how i loved to read...
and of course, it was far more than that too. it was a knife in the back of fandoms and immeasurable pain of hundreds of hours of effort and art gone in the blink of an eye.
but it also seemed like a good time as any to close the chapter on that era of my life. i had been offered an out from what had grown into an addiction, so all these years later it’s almost comical that i’m back here now with the flames of twitter in the background.
twitter was never a replacement for tumblr for me. first of all, as a porn sourcing algorithm it absolutely sucks. twitterporn is entirely populated by onlyfans accounts self-promoting. there are no artful gif collections, no aesthetically organized softcore image sets. it’s just mirror selfies with a “went to the gym who wants to do cardio winkeyface” caption slapped on and a follow up link to 5% off their onlyfans, this month only.
actually, i was on twitter from when it began. back when it was a static page you had to manually refresh, back before you could see likes. you would just say things into a void, and wonder if it meant anything to anyone else.
but as long as i’ve been on twitter, it’s never meant much to me. it helps me keep up with the news, in that twisted warped way it does, and it helps me keep up with a select group of friends. it also holds me hostage for more hours a week than i’d like to admit. if i’m going to sell my soul to a feed, i’d rather it be one like tumblr. one with a little more intention, a little more space to breathe.
there was a specific niche on tumblr that i’d like to find my way back to, which was the “depressed blogger who sometimes included nudes.” i’m not really seeking depressing content anymore, and despite how it sounds, i’m not really seeking nudes either. but i liked the way it felt like you could be a body and a mind. you could vilify yourself and be the vitality too. ...or something like that...
i remember when i first got on tumblr back in 2009 or so, my feed was so, so barren. and it took years of searching, and stumbling before it become something engaging and interesting. how do i find those people again?
is it possible that people are still offering these intimate, vulnerable windows into their lives after all this time? the kind where the blinds are open, curtains swept to the side, where they’re naked in bed and you’re standing on the street half looking, half hiding your face, thinking to yourself, “do they know that I can see them?” haven’t they learned better? all this time and experience on our sides and still doomed to make the same mistakes?
_
okay it’s december, and christmas is around the corner, and i haven’t even wrapped my little head around thanksgiving having come and gone. my skin has been acting crazy lately, and i’ve been dating a boy for a few months who told me he loves me and i said it back and it’s nice, but it doesn’t feel how i thought it would feel.
more on that later, maybe.
for now, this is just a Hello World from my sunday night to another. i’m drawing open my window, but outside is just blackness.

Hetalia: Axis Powers Episode #9 Transcript
This episode has the second Allies meeting and Chibitalia teaching Holy Roman Empire to paint.
America: Okay, so I’ve, like, designed a really sweet attack plan which I’m calling Attack Plan Alpha, like alpha dog. Woof! I think it makes use of our strengths in the best way possible. Britain goes in suicidal! It’s your Charge of the Light Brigade routine!
Britain: Huh?
America: France gives up without a struggle!
France: Oh?
America: And for Russia, just keep sending us your cannon fodder! You’ll draw the guns away from me!
Russia: Hold on. Question. What are you going to be doing, America?
{Text on blackboard #1: England --- Back me up}

{Text on blackboard #3: Russia --- Back me up}
America: Good question. I’ll do what I always do best, and that means…I’m the hero!

Britain: No thanks, I’ll not be part of another of your half-wit schemes.
America: Why do you hate me? Are you still pissed off about that whole Revolutionary War thing?
Britain: Since you’re illiterate and not our leader, mostly my mind wanders while you’re speaking. Like recalling how we burnt your capital to the ground in 1814.
America: AWH!
Britain: Sometimes I picture you as the diabetic fat person you’ll likely be in a few more years on your strictly hamburger diet.
America: OAH! Since we’re all sharing our feelings, those pastries you served me when I visited your house the other day…
{Caption: Scones}
America: They tasted like petrified couch stuffing!
Britain: BASTARD! Those scones were a recipe passed down by my mumsie!
Russia: Hehe!
{Caption: Those things (Scones)}
America: Those were supposed to be scones?
{Caption: This is how the meeting of the Allies begins}

America: Hetalia!
{Caption: Hetalia}
America: I’m gonna kill your pompous---
France: When you two are done releasing sexual tensions, we have got a meeting we need to finish!
Britain: That’s weird.
(America: What?)
Britain: France actually made a rational point.
America: Uhuhn, sorry, that was childish and things got out of hand.
Britain: That’s no fair! It’s my job to be mature!
France: Seriously, you two! We have more important things to worry about before settling on our world plans! Like what to do about those tacky military clothes!
{Caption #1: Tacky}

Britain, America: THIS IS WAR! AND YOU’RE WEARING A CAAAAAAPE!
France: It’s a cloak, non?
(Non?: No? → French)

Britain: Pipe down! Your country once surrendered to a Boy Scout troop on holiday!
{Caption: Weak}
France: That was years ago!
China: Shēntǐ hǎo ma?
(Shēntǐ hǎo ma?: How are you? → Chinese)
China: Oh great, Britain, France, and America are fighting again over nothing. Why can’t you just dominate your people with a totalitarian government, really?
{Text on blackboard: Subject 2 If we win, what will we do with their lands?}
China: Here, let me show you how things are decided using ancient Chinese fashion. Now, seems simple enough! China take all! You can go home now.
Britain: I don’t think so! What gives you the right to take all the land yourself?!
China: Because I’m the oldest! AOH!
France: This is worse than trying to manage a bunch of Italians!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
China: Hetalia!
{Caption: Hetalia}
France: Just wait! I think we should all sit down and rework the plan.
{Text on blackboard: Let’s calm down a little}
Britain: I hate to say it, but he’s right.
China: And he smells.
America: You guys don’t like my plan?
Britain: It’s more you, personally.

Britain: If we divide them based on geography, we get this.
America: Somebody forgot to include Mr. America!
Britain: Eugh…fine, you can have Japan. That way you’ll at least be staying out of Europe.
America: Old Japan…let’s find out where that is.
{Text on paper: America’s World Map}
America: Um…it’s not on the map!

{Caption #1: Hetalia}
{Caption #2: Chibitalia}
Narrator: Chibitalia.
Holy Rome: Hey, Italy…um…would you…teach me how to draw, please?
Chibitalia: Of course I will. But I didn’t know that you liked to draw.
Holy Rome: Poop! My rabbit look like junk!
Chibitalia: No, it’s good. Which part don’t you like? Oh, the leg. Like this!
Holy Rome: Huhah! Ah…ah…ah…ah…I’m going home now!
Chibitalia: Uhuah?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
France: Hey, Russia, you smiled a lot during that meeting even though it was just yelling. How do you stay so calm?
Russia: That? It’s easy. I like to listen to all the loud noises you make together. I grow up very different. My home is very large and very cold and people hate each other quietly. So noisy foolishness is fun to me. My only friend growing up was a yak.
France: Oh, that’s right. Your emotions were buried by soul-crushing weather and a totalitarian state.
Russia: True. But soon I might probably get to say goodbye to everyone.
France: Ahuah?!
Russia: It make me pleasure smile to think how they will all be destroyed by my overwhelming power.
France: Uhahahahahaha!
