TEN SONGS!
Tagged by @havocinthebluebox to share ten songs <33333333333
(links and favorite lyrics/lines included)
Raincheck/Tin Star
When the orange is fully wound I still have time to go to ground To go get lost before I get found
Spinning Away/John Cale & Brian Eno
One by one, all the stars appear As the great winds of the planet spiral in Spinning away, like the night sky at Arles In the million insect storm, the constellations form
Fuck You/Dean and the Weenies (deeply satisfying to sing, a longtime favorite)
Why are you talking to me? Please leave immediately Where is your dignity? Please get away from me Why don't you choke on a fashion accessory?
Drop the Pilot/Joan Armatrading
You're kissing cousins, there's no smoke, no flame If you lose that pilot I can fly your plane If you want solid ground, come on and try me Oh I can take you so high that you're never gonna wanna come down, I say
Home/Depeche Mode
The heat and the sickliest sweet-smelling sheets That cling to the backs of my knees and my feet Well, I'm drowning in time to a desperate beat
Little Bird/Annie Lennox
They always said that you knew best but This little bird's fallen out of that nest now I've got a feeling that it might have been blessed so I've just got to put these wings to test
The Flame Still Burns/Strange Fruit (original by Foreigner, but I MUCH prefer this version because Still Crazy is one of the best rock movies ever ;))
I, I want my thoughts to be heard The unspoken words of my wisdom Today, as the light starts to flow Tomorrow who knows who will listen But my life has no language of love No word from above is appearing Oh the time, in time there's a fire that's stoked With a reason of hope and believing
Demolition Man/Grace Jones
I'm a walking nightmare, an arsenal of doom I kill conversation as I walk into the room I'm a three line whip I'm the sort of thing they ban I'm a walking disaster I'm a demolition man
Throw Your Arms Around Me/Doug Anthony All Stars vers. (original by Hunters & Collectors)
And if you disappear out of view You know, I will never say goodbye Though I try to forget it You will make me call your name and I'll shout it to the blue summer sky
Nemesis/Shriekback
But we know pleasure is not that simple Very little fruit is forbidden Sometimes we wobble, sometimes we're strong But you know evil is an exact science Being carefully correctly wrong
And I'm tagging anyone who wants to share ten songs!

Pairing: Spencer Reid x fem!Reader Warnings: unrequited / unreciprocated love, breakup talk, mentions of heartbreak, very angsty Word Count: 1.6k Summary: still in love with you, the young doctor is forced to watch you move on.
A/N: i was heavily inspired by miley cyrus’ song of the same title, as well as precious by depeche mode. i really suggest listening to those songs while reading this fic to really feel the pain.
-
The annual office Christmas party was in full swing. Fairy lights and wreathes decorated the usually dull space. Platters of food were being passed around between the attendees, accompanied by an enormous amounts of champagne. And while everyone was enjoying themselves, a certain brunette doctor found himself feeling the exact opposite.
Spencer was sat at the edge of his desk. Next to him stood Penelope who was in the middle of outlining her holiday plans. Yet he couldn't concentrate. He felt terrible. Like a truly bad friend. But he couldn't help it. Every time he tried to focus on the words coming out of Penelope’s mouth, his mind instead wandered to you.
Breakups are hard. Spencer would know, he memorised all the statistics. Well, at least he thought he understood because as it turns out in practice they are even worse than in theory. Especially since he didn't really understand what went so terribly wrong.
You told him you didn't love him. But how could that be? You certainly acted in love, happy. Was it all a lie? No. It couldn’t have been because he would have been able to tell. He makes a living profiling behaviours therefore he would have been able to tell if you were pretending. Right?
It was a puzzle he couldn't solve. His mind was racing a million miles per hour. For exactly thirty days, seven hours, twenty-two minutes and one, two, three, four, five... Spencer shook his head. He focused his attention on Garcia who was no longer talking. Instead she was staring at him with quizzically.
“Are you okay?” A concerned look spread across her face. Spencer nodded in response although it was no use because she knew he was lying. “It’s okay to be sad-” She began but he cut her off. “I’m not sad. I’m confused.” Penelope placed her hand on his shoulder giving it a gentle squeeze.
“That’s okay too.”
She smiled at him reassuringly before offering to get him some eggnog: “It might not make you feel better, but it tastes so good.”. Before he got a chance to respond however she had already disappeared into the crowd leaving him alone with his thoughts.
He looked ahead wanting desperately, just this once, for his brain to stop. He didn't want to think anymore. He definitely didn't want to think about you, your relationship, your breakup.
In retrospect however, thinking about you would have been better than seeing you. Because in that moment, in between the bodies of his coworkers, Spencer spotted you. His heart stopped.
The sharp office lights, usually unflattering, hit your skin so elegantly that he couldn't believe how beautiful you looked. Your hair was perfectly placed around your face, it bounced gently with your every move. The red dress you were wearing was new, Spencer noted, although it complimented your figure greatly.
Spencer swallowed the lump in his throat. He nervously tugged at his tie, undoing it hastily.
He shouldn't have been surprised to see you here. After all you worked in the same building, only a few floors down from the BAU. He shouldn't have been surprised at all, but he was. He was because exactly thirty days, seven hours, twenty-five minutes ago you told him you didn't want to see him again. You told him it would be better if the two of you didn't interact - especially at work. So why were you here? Why were you breaking your own rules?
Spencer decided to investigate; bite the bullet, talk to you. He lifted his body weight off the desk and straightened his clothes. He was about to take the first step in your direction when a man appeared beside you and draped one arm around your shoulder.
The young doctor froze. What the hell?
He watched as the man handed you a drink before placing a kiss on the side of your head. He watched you smile, that warm kindhearted smile you had graced Spencer with only a few months ago. He watched the man whisper something in your ear, your cheeks flushing red. He watched and his heart ached.
“Hey Spence, where’s your head at?” JJ asked creeping up beside the young doctor. When Spencer didn't answer, the petite blonde followed his gaze. “Ahh, I see.”
“What do you think she sees in him?” Spencer asked, a hint of heartbreak in his voice.
“I wish I could answer that Spence, I really do.”
“According to research published in The Journal of Positive Psychology, it takes eleven weeks to feel better after a relationship ends.” Spencer stated. “We broke up thirty days ago, how could she be with someone new?”
JJ sighed.
“Love is messy. Each relationship is unique so different people grieve differently, and some may get over their feelings quicker than others.” She nudged Spencer’s arm. “Just because she’s here with someone new, doesn't mean she didn't care about you.” Spencer glanced up at JJ. “She told me she didn't love me.”
It was the first time he spoke those words aloud. Before when his team members asked what went wrong, he brushed the question off with a statistic on how sixty-four percent of Americans have gone through a breakup of a long-term relationship. It was oddly freeing to finally tell the truth.
“Spence, I’m so sorry.” JJ smiled sympathetically.
“She said that the more I gave, the less she needed. She said she knew I was wrong for her.” Spencer’s nose twitched as he tried to fight back tears. “She said that things get damaged, broken. That in the end she realised she didn't feel as strongly about me as I did about her. That she had so little left to give, and that it was unfair to me.”
Spencer’s gaze traveled to where you were stood once again. “She said that I deserve better but what if I never get over her? She’s perfect to me.”
JJ linked her arm with the young doctor. The two of them stood quietly as Spencer composed himself, his eyes still fixated on you. You and the mystery man.
Laughing at something the man said, you lifted your head upwards before tilting it to the side in Spencer’s direction. Your eyes locked with hid instantly and the air caught in your throat. A sheepish smile spread on your face, one that Spencer couldn't bring himself to reciprocate.
Turning your attention back to your date, you told him you needed to mingle and asked him to find you later. He kissed your cheek and turned to walk away, get another drink perhaps, as you ambled your way toward the brunette doctor.
“Hi JJ.” You greeted kindly, before looking at who you truly wanted to talk to. “Hi Spencer.”
“Hey Y/N. It’s good to see you again.” The petite blonde responded.
Spencer however remained quiet. There was so much he wanted to say to you, ask you. He had prepared speeches in his mind that he would use once the two of you were finally talking again. However, now that you stood in front of him he didn't know where to start.
So he did what any heartbroken person would do in his situation, and walked away. It was a little childish perhaps but it felt right. He manoeuvred his way between the partying people and headed for the elevator. Heart racing.
You managed to catch up with him as he waited for the machine to arrive.
“Spencer.”
He turned on his heel at the sound of his name. Now facing you, a broken look plastered across his face. “What do you want Y/N? I left you alone, and I didn't question why we broke up. I did everything you asked even if it didn't make much sense to me. What do you want?” There was a hint of dismay in his voice.
“I-I just wanted to see if you were o-okay.” You responded.
“Of course I’m not.” He jeered. “You broke up with me, told me you didn't love me, and then moved on within a matter of weeks as if our relationship meant nothing to you.”
“That’s not true Spencer. Our relationship meant everything to me, and I wanted nothing more than to feel the same way as you. I killed myself every day, hated myself because for whatever reason I couldn't fall in love you even though you are the best person I have ever met.” You breathed.
“I would have given anything to be able to love you Spencer Reid.”
The second his name escaped your lips, he charged at you. His mouth pressed against yours with so much force you stumped backwards. His hands cupped your cheeks, pulling you in closer with every second that passed. Eyes closed. Heat growing.
He parted his lips, his tongue trailed forcefully along the brim of your bottom lip demanding entry. Which in the heat of the moment you allowed. Your mouth parted and his tongue instantly latched onto yours, exploring and dancing together.
The outside sounds disappeared. There was no party, no people, no date. In this moment it was just you and Spencer. You and the man who’s heart you broke exactly thirty days, seven hours, thirty-three minutes ago. In this moment you could only hear his breath and soft moans that escaped from between your locked lips.
Your body melted into his. Your hands were now on his back, feeling his tensed muscles. You began to feel your passion rise as the he tangled his fingers in your hair.
The moment was short lived however because in the space of a heartbeat you used all of your strength to pull away, breaking the kiss. Both your eyes still closed, foreheads pressed against one another, breathing heavily.
“It's not your fault I ruin everything. And it's not your fault I can't be what you need.” You whispered while gently caressing the back of his head. Your fingers tangled in his soft curls one last time.
Before Spencer even opened his eyes, you were gone. Your last words ringing in his ears as overwhelming sadness overcame him once again.
Baby, angels like you can't fly down here with me.

Top 12 Personal Favorite Hit Songs from 2013
Tumblr media
The best year in a trio of awesome years for hits. So awesome, in fact, I had to leave several excellent songs out of the list, even with two additional slots, and limit the list to songs I actually put on my mp3 player at one point or another.
What’s that? People usually call it a bad year? Well screw them.
Disclaimers:
Keep in mind I’m using both the year-end top 100 lists from the US and from France while making these top 10 things. There’s songs in English that charted in my country way higher than they did in their home countries, or even earlier or later, so that might get surprising at times.
Of course there will be stuff in French. We suck. I know. It’s my list. Deal with it.
My musical tastes have always been terrible and I’m not a critic, just a listener and an idiot.
I have sound to color synesthesia which justifies nothing but might explain why I have trouble describing some songs in other terms than visual ones.
The year I stopped working in Paris, found a job closer to home that finally made me feel helpful in the grand scheme of things, and I finally had more free time. Goodbye daily trains. I also went to some concerts! This never happened before.
2013: also the year when just about every band and artist I liked decided to make a good album. Except Depeche Mode. Depeche Mode made Delta Machine. It wasn’t great. But, uh, let’s see, Placebo made Loud Like Love (with the fantastic A Million Little Pieces), VNV Nation made Transnational, Daft Punk made Random Access Memories... Nine Inch Nails came back with Hesitation Marks, which is pretty great with a couple of fantastic songs. Lady Gaga made the vastly underrated ArtPop! Even Eminem made a pretty decent album! Eminem! In the year of our lord 2013! And The 1975 made their debut album. They would eventually become one of my favorite bands of the 2010s, but not yet, though. And Indochine redeemed themselves by releasing Black City Parade, their absolute best album of the decade.
However, despite Indochine’s excellent effort and the return of Nine Inch Nails, the album of the year, at least to me, was Kveikur by Sigur Rós. At that point, I had been following their stuff for ten years, and this album still blew my goddamn mind. It’s so heavy and dark and so different from what they had been doing since Agaetis Byrjun. It’s loud and textured and industrial and yet, there’s so much light above the dark. They out-NIN’ed Nine Inch Nails. There isn’t a single track I don’t love on this album. It’s their best one in my humble opinion.
Tumblr media
As far as unelligible songs go, boy, where do I start. Uh. Copy of A and Came Back Haunted (Nine Inch Nails), certainly, A Million Little Pieces (Placebo) as I already mentioned, Memoria and College Boy (Indochine - I’m actually shocked they aren’t on the French top 100), Chocolate by The 1975, and most infuriating of all, Castle of Glass by Linkin Park, which is imho their best song of the 2010s. Oh well.
But there’s still a shit ton of stuff which was elligible but didn’t make the list. Here’s a lot of honorable mentions. There were like ten more of them initially, mind you.
Sirens Call (Cats On Trees) - You know how in just about every top ten post I’ve made so far, there’s a song where I’m like “if I had better taste this would be higher”? This is this song for 2013.
Don’t You Worry Child (Swedish House Mafia) - Catchy but borderline annoying. Still very good.
Counting Stars (One Republic) - This is so happy and catchy. More songs like this nowadays, please.
I Cry (Flo Rida) - Still elligible. Still great. Still not on the list.
Ho Hey (The Lumineers) - Same thing here, sadly.
Animals (Martin Garrix) - I called Bangarang from the previous list a perfect stim song, and this is in the same ballpark. Not as good, but great shapes and colors all around.
Berserk (Eminem) - That song has a lot of really bad lines, but also a lot of much needed energy, it’s a ton of fun, and I love the “say f█ck it before you kick the bucket” part of the chorus. I was so glad to hear Eminem having fun again. Would certainly have made the list in a more mediocre year. Not the most infuriating thing I had to leave out of the list, though.
Radioactive (Imagine Dragons) - THIS IS IT THE APOCALYPSE OH WOHO no I don’t have anything intelligent to say, it’s just great.
Best Song Ever (One Direction) - This is my favorite song from that band. It might be because it sounds suspiciously like Baba O’Riley. If you think I’m gonna complain about people ripping off good songs, please check my entry about I Gotta Feeling by The Black Eyed Peas a few top 10s before this one.
Wait. Waiiit. What if the “best song ever” they can’t remember in the lyrics WAS Baba O’Riley?? Wouldn’t that be the best meta song ever? What do you think? I mean, that one could indeed claim the title of best song ever.
Get Lucky (Daft Punk) - I know. I know. But I couldn’t put it on the list. It’s not my favorite song from the album, it was overplayed, and even if it’s extremely good it stays roughly at the same level for the entirety of the song. I love it, but I had to draw the line somewhere and cut the list. I didn’t want to make another top 15.
Carry On (fun.) - This was the last cut from the list. It was a really painful one. Not my favorite song from them, but still very, very good.
There’s been lists where I had to put filler. If I had to put actual grades to them, some songs I put on some lists would get a 6/10 or even a 5/10 for really bad years (looking at you 1990). Sometimes, I had to put stuff I’d grade 7/10 as high as #3.
If I had to grade this 2013 list according to my personal taste in music, #12 would get an 8/10, #11 would get a 9/10, and everything in the top ten would either be a 9,5 or a 10. No joke. That’s how good that year was for hits.
Let’s go.
12 - My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark (Light’Em Up) (Fall Out Boy)
US: #40 / FR: Not on the list
Tumblr media
There you have it. Three songs from a band I consider pretentious asshats ended on my lists. Including this one, in a year where I decided to severely limit my options for songs. And at the time? I thought it was just an okay song, way too slow but okay. Not great. At all.
It took it about three whole years to grow on me, and it also took me a while to actually know what it was about, and as I said previously, framing is everything ; knowing this song basically said “we’re back, and we’ve changed, and you’re not gonna like it so you’re gonna feel betrayed and you’re gonna burn your old posters, and in the end you’re also gonna betray us” makes it a lot, lot better. I especially love the “Burn everything you love then burn the. ashes” line with the weird pause for emphasis.
It just goes stomp, stomp, stomp. It’s heavy. You can’t dance to it. You can’t even have fun while listening to it. But you can certainly stomp along, and feel angry, and, yes, betrayed, and three years after 2013, I certainly needed that kind of song. A lot. You know exactly why.
11 - Burn (Ellie Goulding)
US: Not on the list / FR: #54
Tumblr media
I discovered Doctor Who at the very, very end of 2013, and for some reason I associate this song with Martha’s journey during the year that never was at the end of S3, trying to convince the entire Earth to fight back against the Master. That’s all I have to say about this song. It’s great.
10 - Instant Crush (Daft Punk ft Julian Casablancas)
US: Not on the list / FR: #26
Tumblr media
So yep, Get Lucky isn’t my favorite song on Random Access Memories, and thank you French charts for allowing me to put this one on the list instead.
Like a ton of people, I couldn’t figure out what the chorus was, apart from a couple of isolated words, and that felt exactly like being 10 and trying to decipher songs with my limited English. And then I checked the lyrics, and they were mostly variations on “I don’t want to be alone” and they rhyme “go” with “go”, so, uh, nothing of value was lost that day. And it still sounds fantastic.
9 - Applause (Lady Gaga)
US: #37 / FR: #66
Tumblr media
Yes, there’s some really stupid shit in the lyrics and the theme of the song itself isn’t particularly inspiring, but that chorus is a happy burst of fuzzy bright angular shapes, and it’s so energetic it feels like you could phase through walls by sheer force of will while listening to it. It would be even higher if the lyrics were better, I swear.
8 - Papaoutai (Stromae)
US: Not on the list / FR: #4
Tumblr media
And the boss of cleverly written hit songs strikes again. Pretty sure that one, like Alors On Danse, is well known even if you don’t speak French. As I understand it, apparently French teachers like to use it in class. But yeah, just in case: it’s a song about his absent father. My favorite part:
Un jour ou l'autre on sera tous papas (One day or another we’ll be dads) Et d'un jour à l'autre, on aura disparu (And one day or the next, we’ll be gone) Serons-nous détestables? (Will we be despicable?) Serons-nous admirables? (Will we be admirable?) Des géniteurs ou des génies (Parents or geniuses) Dites-nous qui donne naissance aux irresponsables? (Tell us who birthes irresponsible people?) Ah, dites-nous qui, tiens (Ah, tell us who ; weird) Tout le monde sait comment on fait des bébés (Everybody knows how to make babies) Mais personne ne sait comment on fait des papas (But nobody knows how to make dads)
And it’s also horribly catchy. And it was kind of a meme here. It was everywhere. I’m surprised it wasn’t even higher than that on the French year end top 100.
7 - Underwater (Mika)
US: Not on the list / FR: #70
Tumblr media
Why do I love this song so much even though I usually hate songs like that. This is the kind of romantic bullshit Robbie Williams does, and for the record I absolutely hate Angels, and Underwater even sounds a bit like Angels, and it also has the same kind of corny central metaphor. So. Why do I love Underwater again? How can I justify this? I’ve got no clue.
We don’t deserve Mika.
6 - I Need Your Love (Calvin Harris ft Ellie Goulding)
US: #56 / FR: #51
Tumblr media
By now you must all be extremely tired of reading me describing songs in visual ways but this song is the sound equivalent of some sort of light show mixed with Dance Dance Revolution patterns. It’s incredibly kinetic and full of joyful, glittering energy, and I love it so goddamn much.
As a 90s kid who loved eurodance, I’m incredibly grateful this kind of music still exists and is still charting.
5 - Treasure (Bruno Mars)
US: #30 / FR: #23
Tumblr media
Speaking of nostalgia. Well, not really, since I wasn’t born in the era this is trying to mimic, but still. I don’t have anything to say about this, apart maybe from the fact this is the song that finally made me like Bruno Mars.
4 - Hey Brother (Avicii)
US: Not on the list / FR: #18
Tumblr media
I already mentioned how much I loved Avicii’s music when I briefly talked about Levels, and Hey Brother is even better. As you might know I have a little brother and as it is often the case with siblings we fought a bit but we also shared a lot of things, and games, and weird private jokes, and yeah that song can occasionally make me cry a fair bit if I’m being honest.
Also, it’s kind of my main theme song for Charley and C’rizz, so, yeah, it’s just another layer of Feelings(tm).
3 - I Will Wait (Mumford & Sons)
US: #52 / FR: Not on the list
Tumblr media
As you might have noticed, there’s one genre that is conspicuously absent from my lists as far as the US hit songs are concerned, and that’s country. I’ve got nothing against country music, I just rarely find it visually interesting. Now I do like folk rock on the other hand, but its big era is long gone, and it’s quite rare to hear anything from it in the charts nowadays. I liked Ho Hey by the Lumineers, but I always thought it was a little bit too slow.
And then I found Babel by Mumford & Sons at the library, gave it a try, loved it, felt like discovering a modern band version of Bob Dylan with simpler lyrics, and this isn’t my favorite song on the album and it’s still at #3 on this list. Quality, man, just quality.
My favorite song from the album is Lover of the Light, by the way.
2 - Can’t Hold Us (Macklemore & Ryan Lewis)
US: #5 / FR: #8
Tumblr media
Sometimes you need angry fight songs, sometimes you need energetic fight songs, and sometimes you need happy fight songs. And when something combines the last two, it’s like you caught a star in a Mario game and you’re f█cking unstoppable.
If Macklemore doesn’t get more hit songs at some point in the near future I’m gonna punch a wall.
1 - Roadgame (Kavinsky)
US: Not on the list / FR: #44
Tumblr media
This song has no music video. It was still an enormous hit.
As you may recall, I already said once or twice that I liked to hang out at the disc store after class while I was in highschool and uni, and it still happened regularly after I started to work. Even nowadays, if I had a really, really bad day, there’s a good chance I’ll go there and spend at least an hour there just listening to stuff.
So here I was, one fine (actually bad) day, and this song was playing, and I was mesmerised, and for the first time ever, I felt the need to find a vendor and ask what was playing. I found one and the guy instantly beamed and went “oooooh I picked that album to play it in the store today! :D That’s Kavinsky, he’s great, here, have a listen” but it was already getting late so... I trusted him and basically bought the album blind.
Best decision ever. On top of being one of the best albums of the 2010s, OutRun is a concept album presented as if it was the soundtrack of a movie that never existed, about a young guy getting killed in a car crash in 1986 and somehow fusing with his car mentally and reappearing as some sort of technological zombie in 2006. And Roadgame is one of the best songs on the album if not the best. Well, my favorite song on it is actually Testarossa Autodrive, but you get my point.
I was like “there’s no way this is going to be big”, and I was dead wrong, thankfully. As a big fan of electronic music full of lights and flashes and colors but with dark overtones, I couldn’t be happier about this being one of the sounds of the year. Just fantastic stuff.
It’s 2020, man. Please drop that second album. We’re ready to have our minds blown all over again. Just do it.
Also, thank you random vendor from the disc store.
Next up: I have no idea why some people call 2014 a really bad year for hit songs tbh

So I decided to write up a list of questions for The Killers so that I'm prepared for when they do another q&a...I reached the character limit on my phone's memo pad in about five minutes. 🤦‍♀️ Questions after the break if anyone cares.
What's it like to lose your voice while on tour? Is it nerve-wracking to go back on stage the next show?
Do you still take voice lessons - maybe before touring to make sure your technique is good?
What's been the craziest thing to happen on tour?
You guys seem to go hiking a lot - any close calls? Sometimes it's a little dangerous!
Brandon, has therapy basically 'cured' your fear of flying or is it still there sometimes? Do you still have sessions at all? (Curious as someone with a public speaking phobia!)
What's the weirdest or scariest nightmare you have had?
What's the best thing about having kids?
Do you guys think you'll ever win a Grammy?
Brandon, in the past you've performed with U2, New Order and other idols - anyone else you'd still like to perform with or do another song with? Maybe Elton?
I noticed that everyone uses in-ear monitors except Brandon - why is that? (And how's your hearing? It must be very loud on stage!)
You guys tend to neglect the slower songs when playing live - why?
Did you guys have pets while growing up?
Those who don't live in Vegas anymore - do you miss it? Do you go back and visit?
What does Brandon do to protect his voice while on tour? Seems like every big singer these days has had some sort of surgery or serious injury, but he hasn't and it's been 16 years (luckily!!)
Brandon, when you took voice lessons, what was the most useful thing you learned?
Dave/Mark/Ronnie - when fronting your own solo projects, what did you learn? Did you use anything absorbed from watching Brandon or other frontmen?
Dave/Mark/Ronnie - was it extra nerve-wracking to suddenly be the frontman for your solo projects when perfoming live?
Who gets the most nervous before shows? Are bigger or smaller venues more likely to make you nervous?
Are there any producers you would still like to work with?
Would you guys ever consider doing a self-produced album?
What does it feel like to have a huge crowd of people singing along with you?
What's been the coolest fan interaction over the years?
Why did it take so long to include lyrics in the liner notes? Would you ever release official lyrics for older songs?
Brandon, your showmanship has improved a ton over the years. How have you done it? Is it just experience or do you study film?
Is there anything you guys still want to improve on, either musically or in performances?
Is it still weird to think that there are millions of people in world who idolize you guys like you do for Depeche Mode or Morrissey?
You guys seem to like to tease us on social media - do you ever read the comments on your posts?
If The Killers are ever inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, do you have an idea of who you would want to do the induction speech?
Who is the funniest person in the band?
Brandon, a few years ago you were having shoulder problems - is that still an issue or has it been fixed? Can you play golf again?
Sometimes songs like Dustland or Rut can get emotional - is it hard to perform those?
Why wasn't Tidal Wave included on the 10th anniversary vinyl of Day and Age? It's so beautiful!
When recording your instruments (or singing), do you guys prefer to do the whole song all the way through in multiple takes, or do pieces at a time and patch them together?
I know every song is different, but more often than not, which comes first when writing songs - the melody or the lyrics?
Which songs have been the easiest/quickest to record, and which were the most difficult?
Which songs were the easiest and most difficult to write?
Do you guys have a favorite song from each album?
Are there songs that you don't really like to play live?
What are the chances that Goodnight, Travel Well or your amazing cover of U2's Ultraviolet will ever be performed live?
Brandon once said that he had been a better piano player at 14 than he was as an adult; is that still true? Have you considered taking lessons again?
Are there any instruments that you guys would like to learn how to play?
Are there any instruments that we would be surprised to learn that you can play?
Ronnie - was it an interesting experience getting to be the frontman for Big Talk? Was it easier or harder than you thought it would be?
Are there any b-sides from Wonderful Wonderful that might see the light of day?
Any plans to put out a second album of b-sides?
The acoustic performances you guys have done are amazing - Would you guys ever consider doing an acoustic album? I would love to hear acoustic versions of Runaways, Rut and Spaceman!
The Killers have been around for like 16 years - is it still enjoyable to go through the process of making an album?
What kinds of things have changed about the process of writing music as you guys have gotten more experienced? Is it easier now?
Is there anything that would surprise us about The Killers' writing and recording process?
How many hours typically go into writing and recording a Killers song from start to finish?
Ten years ago, you guys claimed to be working on a covers album. What happened to that?
What's a song that you would love to cover, but haven't yet?
Favorite places to hike internationally and in the US?
Brandon moved back to Utah recently - how are you guys liking it?
Are there any songs that you guys love, but don't often play live for some reason?
What's everyone's Hogwarts house?
What's everyone's favorite movie (recently and all time)?
What's the best and worst thing about touring?
How much time do you guys usually spend per week on working on a new album?
Do you guys prefer recording when you're all in the same studio, or by sending things back and forth online?
What's your favorite and least favorite part of the recording process?
What's been the craziest or most surprising fan story or encounter?
Occasionally you guys will list producers as songwriters. How are the songwriting credits determined?
Which album so far has taken the most time to make, and why?
Why hasn't Goodnight, Travel Well ever been performed live?
It's been ten years since the Royal Albert Hall DVD - please tell me you have plans to make another one in the future?
Would you guys ever release behind the scenes footage of your tours and recording process - more than a couple of minutes?
While traveling on tour, I bet you guys have gotten adventurous with local food. What was the best thing you have eaten on tour?
Since criticizing Battle Born, have you guys gone back and listened to it in full again? I think it's great!
Do you guys ever go back and listen to your albums?
What are your 5 favorite Killers songs?
Do you have any fun stories from touring over the years?
Why don't you guys play On Top or Flesh and Bone anymore?
How come you guys don't play The World We Live In or This River Is Wild much anymore?
Would you consider making the live shows a little longer so you can fit more songs into the setlist?
Why has Tidal Wave only been performed once?
What's your favorite song from each album?
Would TK consider covering U2's Every Breaking Wave? I think you guys would crush it.

quick smut fic where nancy is blowing jonathan and starts to hum/moan around his dick and its too much for him to handle and he comes instantly
A/N: Thanks for the prompt, this grew into uh, this and little bit more. And I may have kind of combined it with a text post about a certain song I did recently…
Also on Ao3!
There’s so many sounds he loves. He loves the sound of the little base riff just before the outro on Atmosphere by Joy Division. He loves the sound of the shutter on his camera, because it means a moment worth capturing just transpired. He loves the sound of Will’s bubbly laughter. He loves the sound of his mother’s voice as she sings an old The Mamas & The Papas song to herself in the kitchen.
But he’s discovered that more than anything else, he loves the sounds of Nancy. She just makes the best sounds?! All kinds of sounds. Even better is that he can make her make the sounds. In descending order, his top three sounds of Nancy are:
#3: The cute little huff she lets out when he stumps her when they’re teasing each other with banter. She’s so smart, so quick, so funny, so sassy but every so often he’ll throw something out which she has no answer to other than that cute little exasperated huff. It’s usually followed by her pulling him in by the collar for a kiss, which is even better.
#2: The little whining noise she makes when he in the morning gently untangles himself from her to get up and make breakfast for them. Or, more specifically how it turns into a bit more content noise when he drops a kiss to her temple, forehead, cheek or nose and tucks her in more under the covers.
#1: The frankly indescribable noise she makes when she cums. The noise has some slight variations depending on the circumstances, if he’s used his tongue, fingers or both at the same or other parts, if he’s kept her teasingly on the edge to draw it out or if he’s gotten her over the edge quickly, desperate to hear her make that noise, desperate to hear her feel good, pleasured, satisfied. So it can vary, but to it’s core it’s always the same. It’s so light. It’s like a high-pitched moan but at the same time it’s whimpery and completely breathless. It’s amazing. It’s also always preceded by similar brilliant noises as she’s on her way there, as she’s climbing higher and higher until she reaches her peak where waves of pleasure rolls over her and she’s lost in the waves. There’s really nothing better than that, taking Nancy to that place.
He’s brought back to the present, to the moment, by another sound. See, he started thinking about this, started making this list in his head to distract himself, to calm himself down slightly in an effort to make it last longer. Because Nancy is on her knees in front of him and she has his dick in her mouth and good God he can’t handle it when she does this. It doesn’t take much for him to get aroused when Nancy is around. Frankly, often times it’s enough with a certain look from her for him to start to get hard. When she starts making out with him and then lets her hand travel down his body, all the way down inside his pants, like she did a minute ago, he’s instantly rock-hard. She’s just intoxicating. So when she got on her knees, pulled down his pants and boxers and started to suck his cock, he was almost a goner right away because she’s just too much. It’s the most amazing feelings and sensations and he wants them to last just a little bit longer, to elongate it just a bit. Because it’s so heavenly. So he tried distracting himself by thinking of other things. But it proved almost impossible given how his mind is singularly occupied by Nancy. He had tried to think about music, something he loves, but music led to sounds and sounds led right back to Nancy.
And now a new sound of hers has drawn him right back into the moment he tried to distract himself from. She’s fucking humming along to the New Order song playing from the mix tape in the background. It comes out muffled, because of his cock between her lips, and whimpery because she’s simultaneously rubbing two fingers in circles over her clit, but he can clearly make out the melody. It sounds incredible. It drives him crazy and up the wall, it makes his mind hazy and blank at the same time. And when she reaches the chorus, he’s definitely a goner. He bucks into her mouth and cums with a moan and a shudder. His knees almost buckle. When he’s emptied himself and she’s pulled away from his cock with a light giggle, he falls backwards onto the bed. She’s amazing.
She pulls the last few items of clothing she had on off before joining him on the bed, jumping down on her knees beside him where he lies on his back trying to recover. She beams down at him, reaches out and pushes the hair out of his face.
“What’s this song called?” She asks.
“The Perfect Kiss,” he answers.
“Fitting,” she giggles and leans down and captures his lips with hers.
Yeah, fitting. He’s had about a million of those from her.
“Fuck, you’re amazing,” he tells her.
“I love you,” she blushes.
“I love you.”
He reaches out and puts his hands on her hips, tugging her up towards him. She gets the hint, smiles and follows the motion, straddling his face. She’s dripping wet and tastes fantastic. When he finds a particular sweet spot with his tongue she presses her thighs around him and tugs a little on his hair which she gripped in her hands. He moves his hands from her asscheeks to her thighs and tugs them apart, or tries to, rather. She lifts her pussy up from his mouth.
“Fuck, sorry, can you breathe?” She pants, out of breath herself.
“Yes, but I wanna hear you,” he grins.
She smiles, blushes and shakes her head at him all at once. She spreads her legs instead of pressing them tight around his head. Not the first time her previous ballet experience has come in handy for their sexual exploits. She’s very limber. Which is insanely great. And her new position not only enables him to hear her moans and whimpers, but it also grants him new, deeper access to her pussy. He can really get to work in making her make his favorite noise now.
“Oh my fucking God Jonatha-” she gets out in a big moan. Yep, the slight repositioning works wonders.
He briefly reflects on how she really does have a potty mouth despite normally being soft-spoken, and how both those things are kind of hot. He also thanks their lucky stars that they’re home alone, given her volume.
By the time he gets her to the point where she makes the mesmerizing noise, he’s starting to get hard again. Just seeing and hearing her in pleasure turns him on so bad. She almost falls over when she cums but he keeps her steady with his hands on her hips and she rolls against him as the waves of pleasure rolls through her.
She lifts her left leg and gets off his face. She mirrors his wide smile and lays down on his arm, pressing kisses to his lips and cheek before settling in the crook of his neck.
“What’s this song called?” She asks when drums, base and distorted guitars kicks in.
The mix tape has moved on from New Order, Talking Heads, The Cure and Depeche Mode to a single from a new band he just heard and instantly had to get on tape because it reminded him so much of Nancy.
“Just Like Honey,” he tells her. “By The Jesus and Mary Chain. It made me think of you.”
Listen to the girl
as she takes on half the world
“I like it,” she smiles and presses another kiss to his cheek.
Moving up and so alive
in her honey dripping beehive
Beehive
It’s so good, so good, it’s so good
So good
She giggles into his neck.
“What?” He chuckles.
“Nothing it’s just, that sounds kind of sexy. Especially the way he sings it. Did that make you think of me too?” She sultrily whispers into his ear.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” he smiles shyly, feigning ignorance.
“Hm. Well I know symbolism when it’s staring me in the face,” she grins.
“Oh you do?” He teases.
“Feel my honey dripping beehive,” she then throws out and takes his hand and moves it to her pussy. His cheeks flush at the pure, unfiltered sass, but he recovers.
“Well it is sweet, and you are dripping,” he throws back and moves his hand to his mouth to taste her off his fingers. He succeeds in making her cheeks flush in turn.
I’ll be your plastic toy
I’ll be your plastic toy
For you
“Well that settles the symbolism matter,” Nancy giggles.
“Oh yeah?” He replies in a husky voice.
“Yep. You’re way more than this of course but I certainly don’t need a plastic toy when I’ve got these,” she says and captures his lips with hers in a deep kiss, slipping her tongue in his mouth. “And this,” she continues when they break apart for air, and grasps his half-hard cock again.
She starts jerking him off. His breath hitches in his throat. She slips her tongue in his mouth again, finding his. He holds her close with one arm. He moves his other hand down to her pussy again and rubs his fingers over her clit. He lets a finger slip inside of her. She’s slippery wet. Soon as he’s fully erect again she straddles his hips. She slowly sinks down on his cock. They both let out deep, long moans when she does it. She leans forward and captures his lips again. He eagerly responds to the kiss and wraps his arms around her, holding her close as she slowly starts to move against him. They’ve got all the time in the world to take it slow and enjoy this. He grunts as he bucks against her, working with her movements. She whimpers against his lips.
“I love hearing you too,” she whispers in his ear. She buries her face there, nibbling a little on his earlobe, which drives him nuts, and whimpering and moaning right in his ear. He moans, shudders and groans right in hers in turn as she continues to ride him.
Yes, her sounds, he’ll never be over her sounds he thinks later as he cums deep inside of her in a direct reaction to her pussy squeezing and tightening around him so gloriously when she came just prior. Their moans have morphed into one.
Just like honey
Just like honey
Just like honey
Just like honey
Just like honey
Just like honey…

Today we remember the passing of Johnny Cash who Died: September 12, 2003 in Saint Thomas Midtown Hospital - Nashville, Tennessee
John R. "Johnny" Cash was an American singer, songwriter, musician, actor, and author. He is one of the best-selling music artists of all time, having sold more than 90 million records worldwide. His genre-spanning songs and sound embraced country, rock and roll, rockabilly, blues, folk, and gospel. This crossover appeal earned him the rare honor of being inducted into the Country Music, Rock and Roll, and Gospel Music Halls of Fame.
Born to poor cotton farmers in Kingsland, Arkansas, Cash rose to fame in the prominent country music scene in Memphis, Tennessee, after four years in the Air Force. He was known for his deep, calm bass-baritone voice, the distinctive sound of his Tennessee Three backing band characterized by train-like chugging guitar rhythms, a rebelliousness coupled with an increasingly somber and humble demeanor, free prison concerts, and a trademark all-black stage wardrobe which earned him the nickname "The Man in Black". He traditionally began his concerts by simply introducing himself, "Hello, I'm Johnny Cash," followed by "Folsom Prison Blues", one of his signature songs.
Much of Cash's music contained themes of sorrow, moral tribulation, and redemption, especially in the later stages of his career. Alongside "Folsom Prison Blues", his other signature songs include "I Walk the Line", "Ring of Fire", "Get Rhythm", and "Man in Black". He also recorded humorous numbers like "One Piece at a Time" and "A Boy Named Sue", a duet with his future wife June called "Jackson" (followed by many further duets after their wedding), and railroad songs such as "Hey, Porter", "Orange Blossom Special", and "Rock Island Line". During the last stage of his career, he covered songs by contemporary rock artists of the time; his most notable covers were "Hurt" by Nine Inch Nails, "Rusty Cage" by Soundgarden, and "Personal Jesus" by Depeche Mode.
Before her death on May 15, 2003 at age 73, June had told Cash to keep working, so he continued to record, completing 60 songs in the last four months of his life. He even performed surprise shows at the Carter Family Fold outside Bristol, Virginia. At the July 5, 2003, concert (his last public performance), before singing "Ring of Fire", Cash read a statement that he had written shortly before taking the stage:
The spirit of June Carter overshadows me tonight with the love she had for me and the love I have for her. We connect somewhere between here and Heaven. She came down for a short visit, I guess, from Heaven to visit with me tonight to give me courage and inspiration like she always has. She's never been one for me except courage and inspiration. I thank God for June Carter. I love her with all my heart.
Cash continued to record until shortly before his death. "When June died, it tore him up," Rick Rubin recalled. "He said to me, 'You have to keep me working because I will die if I don't have something to do.' He was in a wheelchair by then and we set him up at his home in Virginia… I couldn't listen to those recordings for two years after he died and it was heartbreaking when we did." Cash's final recordings were made on August 21, 2003, and consisted of "Like the 309", which appeared on American V: A Hundred Highways in 2006, and the final song he completed, "Engine 143", recorded for his son John Carter Cash's planned Carter Family tribute album.
While being hospitalized at Baptist Hospital in Nashville, Cash died of complications from diabetes around 2:00 am CT on September 12, 2003, aged 71—less than four months after his wife. He was buried next to her in Hendersonville Memory Gardens near his home in Hendersonville, Tennessee.

Bellsavvy is a pop singer/songwriter with a strong attitude and musical identity. Based in London and raised in Brazil, the artist knows how to combine her Latin roots and European influences to create a unique sound unlike any other. Encouraged by her mother who was a well-known pop artist in the ’80s, Bellsavvy always knew music ran deep through her veins. Even during her time as an actress and professional model, she couldn't deny the undeniable connection she had to songwriting and performing and eventually took a leap of faith into exploring her true calling as a solo artist. With strong vocals, catchy toplines and a powerful edgy-pop style, Bellsavvy has a lot to say in her art.
Starting her career with MTV Brazil singing on the show "Studio Acesso Girls MTV", Bellsavvy won over the hearts of over 1.8 million live viewers who all voted for her performance. Following her time on MTV, she was catapulted into the limelight, landing roles in movies, musicals and numerous musical projects around Europe.
Her debut single under the name Bellsavvy narrates her own life experiences with the modelling industry and the devastating effect it can have on your mind and body. Following a successful modelling career, Bellsavvy's body began to change and she suddenly started being rejected over and over again by casting agents. They would shame her for her change in weight and appearance and the constant denials quickly took its toll on the singer, brainwashing her into believing that her body was no longer good enough. These negative thoughts resulted in a loss of self-confidence and self-love and Bellsavvy soon had a mental breakdown. No longer recognizing herself in the mirror, she turned to songwriting to help her pull through. “Queen of My Mind” is her uplifting and self-empowering anthem about overcoming these inner battles, realising who you are, accepting it and understanding it, in order to truly be at one with yourself. She confides, “Queen of My Mind is a very personal, deep and emotional song. I wrote it about three years ago after a mental breakdown I had at the very end of my modelling career. I want others to feel the power we have when we love ourselves. Self-esteem, self-love and self-acceptance are the most powerful things we can have in us. It changes everything.” The songwriter has successfully crafted a song to show others that even when you hit rock bottom, there is always a light at the end of the tunnel and with a bit of time and healing we can become the queen of our minds.
Tumblr media
Produced by Billboard HOT 100 producer David Lei Brandt (Lady Gaga), the compelling pop song is all about self-confidence, self-love and ultimately about becoming the "queen of your own mind". The bold new single features confident vocals, determined beats and courageous lyrics while soaking up influences from other fearless female pop artists such as Lady Gaga, Brittney Spears and Demi Lovato. Along with elements of 80’s pop, such as Depeche Mode, Bellsavvy is able to concoct an infectious sound, putting her distinct stamp on it.
The dramatic visuals for “Queen of my Mind” give a deeper insight into Bellsavvy’s experiences, while delivering it through a more playful and fantastical representation. Beginning with the singer receiving negative texts from her modelling agents, we see her go through all the emotions that come in hand with a mental breakdown. From the sadness, confusion and anger to ultimately ending up blossoming and becoming stronger than she’s ever been before and evolving into the queen of her mind. Every detail of the video holds meaning, with Bellsavvy paying tribute to her Latin roots, both through costume and set design, while the choreography is crafted to symbolise different emotions. The high energy video shows the damage that body shaming can cause, but it also signifies the importance of discovering your true self and feeling confident in your own body. Emphasising how the female body isn’t universal, we see the dancers dressed in haute couture for curvy women, shining light on finding your inner warrior and being proud of who you are.
Bellsavvy hopes to use her inspiring story to help people in need, using honest and authentic lyrics to tell her story and connect with listeners on a deeper level. Her music has been hugely supported by LGBTQ+ communities around the world - a community who can empathise with the discriminations that she has endured. With the goal to encourage others to feel strong, beautiful and uplifted, no matter what anyone else tells you, Bellsavvy is on a mission and no one can get in her way.

100 Reasons I Love You
I’m a writer.
I can’t say whether I’m any good. All I can say is that I’m prolific.
I wrote the comedy column in my college newspaper.
I wrote a dozen screenplays and 15 sitcoms when I moved to LA in my twenties.
I have written over 1000 blog posts, 400 newsletters, 100 podcasts and 4 books since then.
But the most meaningful thing I’ve ever written is something no one has ever read before.
It’s a series of lists called “100 Reasons I Love You” that I wrote for the extraordinary woman I call my wife.
The first one was dated July 25, 2007. That was six months into our relationship  when I first told her I loved her.
The second one was dated November 25, 2007. That was for her 38th birthday.
The third one was dated April 24, 2008. That was when I proposed to her.
Since then, we’ve gotten married, bought a house in the suburbs, and had two children, now 6 and 7, who fill up our world with delight.
As a husband, father, son, brother, friend, and small business owner, I’m as harried as you are, trying to spread my time and attention around to make everyone I love happy.
But, as you know, things fall through the cracks. That’s life.
We all have to pick and choose what’s important.
As a dating coach, I have a daily window into this, and one of the things I see regularly is how well-meaning couples fall into a rut and start to take each other for granted.
To be fair, we all have a great excuse: life is, indeed, busy!
And really, who has the time and energy to treat your spouse like you did when you first began dating?
Yet that lack of time and energy are exactly why relationships falter.
It’s why people grow apart.
All the little things stop and you fall into your roles.
You work. You parent. You sleep.
All the time you put into being a couple has disappeared and been absorbed into life’s other endeavors. Next thing you know, you’re wondering: “What happened to us?”
THAT’s why I insist that relationships don’t take “work,” but they do take EFFORT.
So while I’d like to think I’m a good husband – I wake up the kids and make them breakfast, I’m out of the office every day at 5:30 to help out my family, and I’m fluent in all 5 Love Languages – there’s always something that can be done better.
I’m doing it today.
This week marks my 10th Anniversary.
It’s not only been ten years since my wife and I tied the knot, for richer and for poorer, in sickness and in health, ‘til death do us part – but it’s been ten years since I wrote a list for my wife of 100 reasons I love her.
It’s something I’ve been meaning to do, but haven’t gotten around to, what with soccer practice, cleaning out the garage, and putting together that earthquake preparedness kit.
My 100 Reasons list is not a work of literary genius. It’s mostly a series of inside jokes for an audience of two. But I’m sharing it with you today for three reasons:
1. I’m proud of it. I’m proud of my wife. I’m proud of my marriage. I’m proud that I’m given this opportunity to let you peek in on my relationship and show you what healthy, lasting love looks like from the inside.
2. My wife is cool with it. Sure, this is written for private purposes, but my wife has made peace with the fact that I’m an open book. So while I respect her privacy and cherish our marriage, I also see our partnership as an education on love that I can offer directly to you. All the good, all the bad; I only have one mode: honest.
3. True love can be yours. While I wouldn’t hold my breath on your future husband writing you 4 lists of 100 reasons he loves you, that’s because he’ll have a real job besides “dating coach.” What he lacks as a romantic and fast typist, I promise he’ll make up for with other traits: character, consistency, kindness, and commitment.
This much I know is true.
Great husbands come in many forms to the millions of women who look for them.
Great husbands come in many forms to the millions of women who look for them.
They don’t, however, come to women who have given up on men.

100 Reasons I Love You
New Post has been published on https://onlinedatingloves.com/awesome/100-reasons-i-love-you/
100 Reasons I Love You
I’m a writer.
I can’t say whether I’m any good. All I can say is that I’m prolific.
I wrote the comedy column in my college newspaper.
I wrote a dozen screenplays and 15 sitcoms when I moved to LA in my twenties.
I have written over 1000 blog posts, 400 newsletters, 100 podcasts and 4 volumes since then.
But the most meaningful thing I’ve ever written is something “no ones ever” read before.
It’s a series of listings called “1 00 Reasons I Love You” that I wrote for the extraordinary girl I call my wife.
The first one was dated July 25, 2007. That was six months into our relationship when I first told her I loved her.
The second one was dated November 25, 2007. That was for her 38 th birthday.
The third one was dated April 24, 2008. That was when I proposed to her.
Since then, we’ve gotten married, bought a house in the suburbium, and had two children , now 6 and 7, who fill up our world with delight.
As a husband, father, son, friend, friend, and small business owner, I’m as harried as you are, trying to spread my day and attention around to attain everyone I love happy.
But, as you know, things fall through the crackings. That’s life.
We all have to pick and choose what’s important.
As a dating coach, I have a daily window into this, and one of the things I see regularly is how well-meaning couples fall into a rut and are beginning to take each other for granted.
To be fair, we all have a great excuse: life is, indeed, busy!
And actually, who has the time and energy to treat your spouse like you did when you first began dating?
Yet that absence of period and energy are exactly why relationships falter.
It’s why people grow apart.
All the little things stop and you fall into your roles.
You work. You parent. You sleep.
All the time you put into being a couple has disappeared and been absorbed into life’s other endeavors. Next thing you know, you’re wondering: “What happened to us? ”
THAT’s why I insist that relationships don’t take “work, ” but they do take EFFORT.
So while I’d like to think I’m a good spouse- I wake up the kids and induce them breakfast, I’m out of the office every day at 5:30 to help out my family, and I’m fluent in all 5 Love Languages- there’s always something that can be done better.
I’m doing it today.
This week marks my 10 th Anniversary.
It’s is not merely been ten years since my wife and I tied the knot, for richer and for poorer, in sickness and in health,’ til demise do us portion- but it’s been ten years since I wrote a listing for my spouse of 100 reasons I love her.
It’s something I’ve been meaning to do, but haven’t get around to, what with football practise, cleaning out the garage, and putting together that earthquake preparedness kit.
My 100 Reasons list is not a run of literary genius. It’s largely a series of inside jokes for an audience of two. But I’m sharing it with you today for three reasons :P TAGEND
1. I’m proud of it. I’m proud of my spouse. I’m proud of my wedding. I’m proud that I’m given this opportunity to let you peek in on my relationship and demonstrate you what healthy, lasting love looks like from the inside.
2. My wife is cool with it. Sure, this is written for private purposes, but my spouse has constructed peace with the facts of the case that I’m an open book. So while I respect her privacy and cherish our wedding, I also consider our partnership as an education on love that I can offer immediately to you. All the good, all the bad; I merely have one mode: honest.
3. True love are likely to be yours. While I wouldn’t hold my breath on your future spouse writing you 4 lists of 100 reasons he loves you, that’s because he’ll have a real task besides “dating coach.” What he lacks as a romantic and fast typist, I promise he’ll make up for with other traits: character, consistency, kindness, and commitment.
This much I know is true.
Great husbands come in many forms to the millions of women who look for them.
Great husbands come in many forms to the millions of women who look for them.
They don’t, however, come to women who have given up on men.
They don’t come to women who guess the worst of men.
They don’t come to women who think dating is a waste of time and that relationships merely lead to heartbreak and disappointment.
That’s why, starting officially on Thursday, November 1st, I’m having a special marketing on my Believe in Love program where you’ll get $50 off just for being on my mailing list.

Evan

yellin’ at songs, week forty
oops
brief considerations of the songs which debuted on billboard on 10.11.1997, 10.13.2007, and 10.14.2017
10.11.1997
1) "Candle in the Wind 1997/Something in the Way You Look Tonight," by Elton John
princess diana seemed like a nice person and i don't agree that it is good that she passed on. i think she should have continued to live, and finally, i found a song that agrees with my worldview.
44) "Too Gone, Too Long," by En Vogue
So real talk this is late because one week I saw two Post Malone songs and I said fuck it because, like, it's, and I just, I don't think it's fair when older generations yell at younger generations? But the average '90s R&B track was infinitely better than the average '10s anything. You could drive down the street bumping the radio and a song like this, with that small miracle that happens around the 3:00 mark, and this would be like the seventh-best song you'd hear. Kids these days are just listening to songs that don't make any stabs at greatness, they just exist in a way that doesn't motivate you to change the station. The problem is with the children. I'm not actually talking about this song, I'm talking about the way people consume music. This song is heckin' great and everyone should listen to it 20 times and then try to get through a Post Malone song.
58) "Heaven," by Nu Flavor
In this overly intense '90s R&B slo jamz, the R&B boys plead to God to convince this woman to fuck them. That sentence is the last thing I wrote for YAS before taking a weeks-long sabbatical and I'm glad I found it.
63) "Love Gets Me Every Time," by Shania Twain
Where do we rank Shania Twain in the diva pantheon? Like, this is a song with a hook I recognized when I heard it, after 20 years of just not thinking about this song I heard "dolgurn gone and done it" and was like "oh yeah! This jam!" and not all singers can dig that deep into your memory, but in terms of historical import, where does she rank? You can't really argue that "country needs a rep in the pantheon" because um hello? Dolly? but there's at least four Shania songs that are absolutely legendary. Does that merit inclusion among the greats? Or is Shania just on that second tier with a Kelly Clarkson or a Carrie Underwood, reliable but not as powerful as the women we'll tell our grandkids about?
65) "Electric Barbarella," by Duran Duran
One of the things that struck me as odd about the film Sing Street was the reverence with which the film treated Duran Duran. I always sort of thought Duran Duran was a boy band, but there was a film set in the heyday of Duran Duran's popularity, with a scene where an older brother extols the virtues of Duran Duran's musicianship to a younger brother, and I'm just like, "I never would have guessed this band was at the vanguard of new wave?" But I guess maybe they were a less dark Depeche Mode and I should check this out because this song from 1997 probably isn't indicative of peak Duran Duran? Hello welcome back to YAS I'm already asking questions to no one instead of offering criticism, it's like I never left.
70) "They Like it Slow," by H-Town
Sometimes, when you abandon a project for a while and come back, you notice things about the thing you're doing that you never would have noticed if you had worked on it in the last two months. To that end: I just realized all the 1997 and prolly most of the 2007 music videos were shot in 4:3. Like, when they filmed these music videos, they were composing shots with the idea they would be on TVs. That's kind of interesting! Like, when you go to film school, you probably have the idea you're gonna direct films, so having to compose shots for a smaller aspect ratio probably fucks you up a little bit. Anyway, I can't tell if this '90s R&B slo jamz is a parody or not.
87) "A Smile Like Yours," by Natalie Cole
"I have seen the bluest skies/Rainbows that would make you cry." It's absolutely amazing which lines in these songs gain significance from 20 years of events. Like, that line about rainbows takes on a whole new meaning now that we've all enjoyed and then forgot about the Double Rainbow video.
91) "Alright," by Jamiroquai
groovy! i’m okay with this! this is like what all the calvin harris songs would sound like if they were good.
92) "Spin Spin Sugar," by Sneaker Pimps
there's so much cool stuff happening in this song and i really just wanna sit down and get to know this band a lot more because they've always seemed like something i was supposed to like and now i realize that i do actually like them, unfortunately WE'RE LISTENING TO 100 SONGS TONIGHT GOODBYE GOOD SONG I WILL KEEP THIS MEMORY WARM IN MY HEART UNTIL THE END OF TIME
10.13.2007
58) "Tattoo," Jordin Sparks
This is a song that just barely missed the lyric video trend. If any song needed to have words appearing on random actors' skin, it was this one, it would have been such a no-brainer decision. Like, you do it right, hire some calligraphers and tell them to take it up a thousand notches, you have a classic lyric video. Wasn't e'er to be, though. Just a standard music video, and I guess a nice song? It's very2007. It's very the sort of song you'd give to the winner of a forgettable Idol season. "Oh, that? Uh, yeah, keep it. It's either going on this album or in that trash can, might as well use every part of the buffalo that is my brain."
80) "The Way I Am," Ingrid Michaelson
this is the sonic version of a scarf worn indoors in june
86) "Our Song," Tay Tay
"Our song is a slammin' screen door." Did you know Tay Tay's dad was an investment banker? I have reason to believe Tay Tay's only seen a screen door in movies. I dunno. Do rich people have screen doors? I've never been in a mansion, but I don't think screen doors would be appropriate for mansions.
91) "Shoulda Let You Go," Keyshia Cole intro./Amina
I like how Billboard gave Amina an "introducing" credit. You don't see that in music nowadays. Now it's just "hey this 17-year-old has a million plays on Soundcloud, what do you mean you 'haven't heard of him,' he's already been responsible for thirteen memes and they're all dead, we're actually over him already, he's lame now." It is now known that Amina was actually a woman who was okay at rapping. The point still stands, I'd at least like to know that the randos on these songs are people no one but the people who made this song know.
96) "Hypnotized," Piles ft./Akon
"I know she wet 'cuz she told me." I don't know why, but this line tickles me! "Piles, you got me so wet." "YO, SHE'S WET! I MADE HER WET, GUYS!" "You touch mine and I touch yours." Piles must be hypnotized because in my (admittedly limited) experience with his work he doesn't seem like a man who gives head. He seems like a man who needs to be coerced into reciprocating pleasure.
97) "Nothin' Better to Do," LeAnn Rimes
OK so real talk, while I was listening to this song I got distracted because I realized I hadn't updated my Poke Bank subscription in like a year and I have so many precious little babies I need to keep forever, and you know what? This is a fun song. I didn't really need to pay attention to it! It's a song about being naughty that keeps it PG enough to play on country radio, and I wouldn't mind bumping into it again!
100) "Fake It," Seether
So Amy Lee and the dude from Seether broke up. After the break-up, Evanescence hit first with "Call Me When You're Sober," which isn't a particularly devastating song, but the title is incredibly unsubtle, and, like, Seether's a shitty post-grunge band, of course he's an alcoholic, and Amy Lee is right to say "yo I'm kinda done with this, I don't like dealing with the drunk you." Seether strikes back by saying Amy Lee is a liar and that he "feels so raped," and Iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii'm gonna go ahead and say that's #problematic! Amy Lee made a dumb but fair song about how she was out of patience, and here comes Donald Trump by way of Creed to say "YOU ARE RAPING ME WITH THIS BREAK-UP." Like, I'm gonna go ahead and say that the part using rape metaphors to describe their feelings is the one in the wrong in this mediation.
10.14.2017
65) "I Fall Apart," by Post Malone 100) "Go Flex," by Post Malone
i could have spent eight minutes sitting perfectly still listening to ambient noise and have had the same emotional reaction. "never caught a feeling this hard/harder than the liquor i pour." oh fuck off already.
70) "Good Old Days," by Macklemore ft./Kesha
FINALLY. The pop music gods have heard my prayers: Macklemore rapping about nostalgia. Everything I love, in one delightful package! ...He shouts out Minnesota and this is probably gonna end up being the best song from this week because of that and also because this week is lookin' pretty horrible.
94) "Losing Sleep," by Chris Young
OK so real talk during this bro country joint I got distracted because I was looking at new music releases and APPARENTLY THERE'S AN ANIMATED MOVIE BASED ON "ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS YOU?" IT WAS MADE THIS YEAR? THIS YEAR. YOU CAN BUY IT ON DVD TODAY AND OWN IT FOR THE REST OF YOUR FUCKING LIFE. I'm sorry. I'm not going to bother processing whatever bullshit this song is about, sex I guess, because THIS WORLD IS CAPABLE OF SO MUCH MORE. This is a movie. This is also a movie which presupposes that this entire time "All I Want for Christmas Is You" is about a puppy that Mariah Carey needed for a... charity fashion show? "Great! We're short one girl with a dog!" "Oh..." This is a cinematic masterpiece and my life is better for having stumbled across it. This and Pokemon Christmas Bash.
95) "Like I Loved You," by Brett Young
So the writer of Mariah Carey's All I Want for Christmas Is You is one Temple Mathews, who has also written The Little Mermaid II, Peter Pan II, and 101 Dalmatians 2. That is a fucking nuts credit roll, Temple. Dude also goes multiple years between projects, which suggests to me he's like someone at Disney's cousin, and every couple years that person at Disney goes "hey, Temple, wanna make $100,000?" and Temple says "fuck yeah bro" and Temple just lives off that. He makes smart investments and lives in a cabin in Montana and has never actually seen a movie because why would you look at pictures when you've got mountains in your backyard? Temple is living the best life. Dude's my hero. He has someone describe a cartoon to him and writes something based off that and never has to write a second draft.
97) "Round Here Buzz," by Eric Church
Listen, if Eric Church is gonna give us repeats of songs he's done before, at least he's giving us repeats of "Give Me Back My Hometown." It's a slower, sadder version of that song, one that can't be misconstrued as an "I'm poor AND PROUD OF IT!" anthem, this is a song that can only be about a dude thinking about a girl living a life without him while he lives a life with her ghost, but also "Give Me Back My Hometown" is more fun? I dunno, this still prolly gets 2017 SOTY, I've just heard it before. Also, Eric Church? Welcome to the Decade Dance Club. You are the 36th member, and the tenth white male country artist.
98) "Plain Jane," by A$AP Ferg
ok nvm this is song of the week, simply because in the first verse Ferg raised and lowered the volume of his voice. this song went somewhere! this song actually did something! it didn't just bleep and bloop for three minutes or be about how it's nice when things are good, Ferg had things he wanted to say and delivered his lines with actual emotions! he did the bare goddamn minimum, and by 2017 standards, that's pretty good! i'm actually going to remember this song a little bit!
Who won the week?
1997. Like, of course 1997 won. It had Sneaker Pimps and Shania, if 1997 lost to these other wack-ass years it would’ve been stunning.
Standings: 1997: 15 2007: 12 2017: 13 oh god all the songs for the next edition look awful, welp

Pet Shop Boys: Behaviour
Pet Shop Boys arrived in the second half of the ’80s to out-gay essentially everybody. Combining Oscar Wilde-ian wit, compositional and lyrical sophistication that harkened back to Cole Porter and Noël Coward, sartorial style that split the difference between uptown chic (singer Neil Tennant) and downtown rough trade (keyboardist Chris Lowe), and a command of ’80s club music that soon proved itself far more comprehensive than most of their contemporaries, this North England-raised/London-based synthpop duo aestheticized gay life long before Tennant came out in 1994. Every LGBT person knew exactly what the pair meant in the chorus of “It’s A Sin,” arguably the angriest and certainly most overtly anti-Catholic chorus ever to top the UK pop chart and reach the US Top 10:
“Everything I’ve ever done
Everything I ever do
Every place I’ve ever been
Everywhere I’m going to
It’s a sin”
But after becoming one of the most internationally prominent acts of the ’80s with hits like their UK/US #1 “West End Girls,” Tennant and Lowe entered the ’90s knowing their “imperial phase” of uninterrupted success was over: Setting “Ché Guevara and Debussy to a disco beat,” their quintessential manifesto “Left to My Own Devices” stalled at #84 on Billboard’s pop chart in late ’88; their ’89 collaboration with Liza Minnelli, Results, pretty much flopped in North America beyond gay dancefloors, and the ’90 comeback they helped helm for Dusty Springfield, Reputation, didn’t even get a US release—despite all of them doing quite well in the UK.
Following these alternately sunny and frosty records, they released their decidedly autumnal fourth album Behaviour in the fall of 1990. Like the Cure’s Disintegration, Depeche Mode’s Violator, and George Michael’s Listen Without Prejudice, it would transition their creators into the new decade by both refining and breaking from the past. The time was right, for the duo and indeed much of its following were now in mourning. Singer/lyricist Tennant’s longtime best friend had recently died of AIDS. So had Robert Mapplethorpe, who shot some of their Please-period publicity photos, and Keith Haring, who similarly intersected fine art and the club scene. Reported US AIDS cases were well over 100,000, with millions on the way globally, and despite the earliest AIDS drugs like AZT, which in those days often made people sicker, an HIV-positive test result was still pretty much a death sentence. Created in resistance to a mainstream that treated LGBTs as subhuman, the queer culture of defiance and liberation that shaped ’70s disco and much of ’80s pop—particularly PSB’s hybrid of both—was literally dying.
Unfolding like an elegy for much of what had gone before, Behaviour shifted the Boys from sly commentators to reserved-but-pained participants, with its understated but devastating lead track, “Being Boring.” The first verse presents the singer looking through keepsakes, as one does after losing a loved one. He finds a party invite paraphrasing Zelda Fitzgerald’s “Eulogy on the Flapper,” specifically the line “She refused to be bored chiefly because she wasn’t boring.” Boredom was a prickly subject for the pair: Their early deadpan videos and TV appearances were routinely dismissed by clueless critics as generating it.
Set in the ’70s, the next verse depicts the singer leaving his hometown, a mandatory rite of LGBT passage. He softly declares, “I’d bolted through a closing door,” an image evoking both the end of his closeted adolescence and the beginning of fully realized adulthood. By the third verse, which is set in the ’90s, the singer is self-actualized, but reflective: “All the people I was kissing/Some are here, and some are missing.” That simple rhyme still reduces gay men who lived through this era to tears, for AIDS had sorted our intimates into these two categories—those who died young, and those who might soon follow suit, including ourselves. If you hadn’t seen your gay neighbors and friends and former sexual partners around town, chances were they were dead, had gone home to die, or were nursing the dying just like you. “But I thought in spite of dreams,” the survivor sings of his fallen pal, “you’d be sitting somewhere here with me.”
Fashion photographer Bruce Weber shot the song’s lush B&W video, which features models enacting a fantasy version of the parties Tennant attended in the ’70s. The tension between the freedom of Weber’s imagery and the sadness of the third verse makes the eulogy even more devastating, but some fleeting nudity meant that MTV in America had an excuse not to show it. Still, “Being Boring”—ostensibly a dance track, but one featuring fluttering rhythms, a Larry Heard-style deep house bassline that appears only as the album version fades out, a subtle upward chorus modulation that adds sweetness to the sorrow, and a whirring plastic tube conjuring spectral cries—eventually earned its rightful acclaim. A fan site solely devoted to it dwarfs the official web presence of many bands, and on its 20th anniversary, a Guardian critic proclaimed it the greatest single of all time. Even Axl Rose allegedly bemoaned its non-appearance during the duo’s 1991 tour.
That tour, Performance, their first in North America, transformed the staginess of their videos into opulent theater just as Blonde Ambition did for Madonna the year before; in the Pets’ case, it was so over-budget that the well-attended trek still lost half-a-million dollars. And just as the autobiographical Like a Prayer fed Blonde Ambition, the personal nature of Behaviour lent Performance pathos. The dirge that opened the show, “This Must Be the Place I Waited Years to Leave,” affirmed that, like Madonna, Tennant suffered major Catholic damage. The tune is hummable, but the tone intersects opera and Joy Division as it evokes Catholic mass, freezing rain, and grey architecture. No wonder the Pets eschewed the church for wit and disco.
True to their queer sensibility, PSB are intrinsically contrary, even with themselves, and just as their previous release, 1988’s Introspective, is all 12”-length dance numbers, Behaviour is mostly ballads. Even on overt club cuts, its lead single “So Hard” and “The End of the World,” the dance grooves that defined the duo are muted: No more big ’80s drums, no electro rumble or hi-NRG clatter, even if “So Hard” ramps up the trademark orchestral blasts of their previous hits. Rather than the sample-heavy rave bleeps that ruled 1990 UK pop, the album favors analogue synths overseen by co-producer Harold Faltermeyer, the Munich synth whiz who’d been Giorgio Moroder’s key player and had scored with Beverly Hills Cop’s “Axel F.”
But though the instrumentation is mostly as synthetic as before, it’s less pointedly so; the future was no longer as inviting as it had been in the duo’s formative years, when they dreamt of man-machines and home computers. Embracing their humanism to mirror their messages, the pair often blur the boundaries between synthetic and natural sounds: Mirroring the instability of post-communist Russia, “My October Symphony” fuses banging Italo-house piano, “Funky Drummer” syncopation, Marvin Gaye-esque yearning, and the classical strings of Balanescu Quartet, which all blend with the Prophets and Rolands and Marr’s wah-wah guitar so seamlessly that the hybrid suggests Shostakovich going Blaxploitation. You certainly couldn't call it just “synthpop.”
In the booklet for the album’s 2001 deluxe reissue, Tennant paints the unabashed love aria “To Face the Truth” as the story of a man who cannot acknowledge his girlfriend’s infidelities. But like so many PSB songs, it makes more sense in an LGBT context; that his lover is a bisexual who dodges their emotional bond. Having same-gender sex dictates that you’re homosexual, but loving someone of your own gender makes you gay—a step too far for some. “I wonder if you care and cannot bear the proof/It hurts too much to face the truth,” Tennant croons at the top of his tenor. Having just worked with Liza and Dusty, he’d suddenly become a more expressive singer, one here as adept at conveying sincerity as he’d always been at generating irony. The programmed rhythms hail from ’80s R&B, but his vocal is ’70s Bee Gees; had this been on the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, we’d all know it.
Lyrically the most old-school PSB-y song of the lot, “How Can You Expect to Be Taken Seriously?” roasts sanctimonious rock stars who claim to hate fame’s machinations but nevertheless align themselves with the trendiest causes. There’d been plenty of those in the wake of Band Aid, Live Aid, Farm Aid, and “We Are the World,” and they pretty much wiped out the more subversive and often queer “New Pop” movement that spawned the Pets. The album version is set atypically to a New Jack Swing beat, the kind that gave even Boy George a US R&B radio hit with “Don’t Take My Mind on a Trip” the year before, but the seldom heard single/video version remixed it into a more flattering Soul II Soul-style shuffle. Back home, its critique was bolstered by appearing on the flipside of their newly recorded medley of U2’s “Where the Streets Have No Name” and the Four Seasons’ “I Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You,” which echoed Boys Town Gang’s shamelessly camp disco-ization of the latter. Bono, who spotted the satirical finger being pointed in his direction, quipped, “What have we done to deserve this?”
As straightforward as “Seriously” is skewed, album closer “Jealousy” goes furthest in a quasi-symphonic direction. Played on keyboards but booming like a massive orchestra, it’s fraught with romantic angst like their earliest work, yet it suits their new phase of unfettered emotionality. The scene-setting opening conjures the outsized ardor of 19th-century art song: “At dead of night when strangers roam/The streets in search of anyone who’ll take them home/I lie alone…” And the rest similarly picks up where Scott Walker’s covers of Jacques Brel left off.
A crooner, not a belter, Tennant sets his vocal understatement against the over-the-top nature of his blinding passion for an unrequited love. This conflict mirrors the LGBT experience itself: You’ve got all this desire that must somehow be contained to a small percentage of the population, lest you find yourself making a pass at someone who might not share your sexuality and who might respond with condemnation or even violence. So you keep your outer voice small and whispery like Tennant’s, but that constant monitoring and muting only intensifies your inner life, and so you bear the burden of these feelings—here represented by the grandness of the orchestration the despair of the descending vocal melody, the processional horns that bear a stubbornly regal retreat. There’s no apology implied—quite the opposite.
Simpatico women understand this proud juxtaposition: Liza Minnelli considers Tennant and Lowe geniuses akin to Broadway maestro Stephen Sondheim or her dad. Pet Shop Boys critique masculinity the way classic rock bands exude it, but rather than the flamboyance that’s intrinsic to the gay pop star from Little Richard onward, PSB offer the calm control of the outsider looking in, their noses pressed against the shop window.
Having experienced worldwide eminence exactly when their people fell into deeper crisis than ever, they rarely took the easy path, and on subsequent releases like Very’s “Dreaming of the Queen,” they imagined a world in which there were no more lovers left alive. Fortunately, people kept dancing, and Pet Shop Boys still supply their nocturnal soundtrack. Last month, Billboard announced PSB as the all-time top male act on its dance club chart: With last year’s “The Pop Kids,” they landed their 40th hit on that list in 30 years, and 11th No. 1. That they did so with a song as wistful as those on Behaviour makes this achievement truly singular. Embracing disposable pop, they’ve created lasting queer culture just as it was in danger of disappearing. They celebrate the melancholia of being gay.

The Day The Music Died (Again)
Well another musical institution will be shuttering its’ doors.  Sam The Record Man, the destination of destination record and CD stores did so in 2001 in Toronto when the business filed for bankruptcy protection amid a record industry crisis, due to the rising popularity of CD’s and downloaded music files.  Mr. Snidermans’ (yes, Sam the Record Man Sniderman) sons were able to save the business until 2002 but the industry collapsed and so did their hopes of keeping the music alive.  But there is a somewhat happy ending.  Music fans just won’t let an iconic thing die and the Sam The Record Man sign now hangs on the roof of the Toronto Public Health Building.  I love Torontonians - anything that started in the six will always find a place in the six’s heart.
HMV is the latest casualty in an industry that has moved from LPs to tapes to CD’s to digital files.  This to me is forced adoption.  Why should I be forced to be relegated to just digital files?  I much preferred the CD format as a music fan, reading the lyrics and credits were all a part of the experience and were life to me.  And the smell of factory fresh music is part of the experience too.  Breaking the wrapper on a new tape or CD was a high point for me meaning “I’m enjoying spending my paycheque and I can’t wait to listen to this song in my own car and not just on the radio”.  I don’t just hear the music, I smell it too.  Call me crazy but I do the same with books.  An Ontario Superior Court of Justice approved an application on January 27th, 2016 filed by HUK 10 Ltd., a subsidiary of the British restructuring firm Hilco UK that bought HMV in 2011, to place the heavily indebted HMV Canada Inc. into receivership mode. HMV stores are to cease operations by Apr. 30th.  HMV owes close to $39 million to HUK 10 as of January 24th and has not made any payments toward this debt since late 2014.  Remaining HMV stores will maintain regular hours of operation until their vacate dates, according to court records.  HMV currently operates 102 stores in Canada, employing about 1,340 people, most of them at its’ retail locations.
So that’s about all we have left except for smaller scaler music shops which will surely fold one day too, as just a cult following will not keep them alive.  HMV was central in my experience of discovering great music that would shape my youth when I would retreat to my local HMV in Oakville and dream of the CD’s that would be mine when I had enough money.  I loved the listening booths where I was transported away from my current reality to a far, far away place and it was just me against the music.  It was like time would stop as I got lost to Stairway to Heaven and other Zeppelin tunes and dream of the dancefloor as Jack To The Underground buzzed through my head.  I bought my first LP, Fast Eddies’ Get Busy, then it was Technotronics’ iconic Pump Up The Jam and on to Soul II Soul’s Keep on Moving and so on.  Nothing like having exclusively disposable cash from your first few jobs to spend on the things dearest to your heart, huh?  My favourite genre in those days was house and acid that I discovered listening to Toronto's foremost DJ Chris Sheppard on Pirate Radio.  I would also watch Electric Circus religiously, dance up a storm in the family room and beg to go there every week.  I was only 14 so I had to wait a few more years but I formed musical memories that would last a lifetime.  Then there was my love affair with Depeche Mode that seemed to last forever.
It’s a somber thing to see the music institutions that I knew and supported preparing to close.  I will most certainly grab a piece of signage and maybe buy a listening booth just to remember old times.  I liked to get real reviews of music from the staff who for them, music was more than a job but an enduring love affair.  Reading reviews on iTunes or review sites is just boring.  I’d rather have and hold than just download.  Files aren’t tangible and they don’t provide jobs and face to face service.  They aren’t that guy who is totally in his element jamming unashamed to Bob Marley or just chatting about his own top 10 and getting paid to do it.  This was forced on us, folks, and we never really got a chance to say that we don’t want to go digital only.  Buying music at WalMart doesn’t have the same organic feel as a music store where the sense of community and love for music is just so palpable.  Music brings people together, I’ve never seen it divide anyone, okay, except for the unapologetic rap fans versus the classical music fans but they’d never fight about it.  It’s a shame that this is a case of adapt or die.  As HMV liquidates its’ stock and prepares for its’ final days, all I can do is hold on to the treasured memories their stores brought to me and hope to grab one last piece of musical history before the day the music dies at that retail storefront.  RIP HMV.
