Because you asked me about the theme songs: If you had to choose one for each of your OCs what would it be?

Goooood Morning! Or evening for you by now I think 🤔🥰 This’ll be easier for some than others B’3 (links will all be to YouTube videos hopefully!) thank you for the question this was a real thinker x3

So Levraut actually has a song we recently heard and went HOLY SHIT ITS LEV’S THEMESONG! Which would be [Creator, by Lena Raine] it has the mysterious suspense of the music box at the start, and then shifts into the cadence of something I associate with the Sea, which is something that sounds like Accordion ahaha (and then it further intensified with electric guitar, which isn’t usually in his soundscape, but it’s So Good)

For Tuesday I’d have to say my first choice is [Hello World, by Louie Zong] as far as songs that make me immediately associate with Tuesday lololol. The other song I have is [Waltz No. 2, Robot, by Hikaru Shirosu] it has, to me, the cadence of going shopping in a small market, but you’re still very ‘young’ in a sense, and small obstacles can feel like big obstacles 🫢 it’s also Piano, which is one of the instruments associated with Keathan! Who has a very heavy influence on Tuesday’s soundscape :3

For Chuusday…. Picking just one is rly hard… hm… it’s not on EITHER of her playlists I think, but [Home Beyond The Horizon by I think Masoyashi Soken and Daiki Ishikawa] Which is a song played on a crunchy, tinny radio. She’s not patriotic, but it was too large a part of her life for it to not have had some major impacts on her, lol. For a less/more serious song (???) I’d say [Hardware Store by Weird Al Yankovic]. It’s got. The vibe. LMAO.

Tangy is also hard to pin down, but I think [Fell In Love With A Girl, by White Stripes] does a pretty good job of suiting both the vibe and at least a Lil Bit the lyrics [because the first three lines remind me of Minfilia and Tangy :/ not that I ship them explicit romantic 100% of the time, but it coulda been. It coulda.]

However I do offer the song from [this post] because it reminds me Thavnair, so the real answer is I have a lot of music in Urdu I need to listen to and figure out his vibe LOL. I found the song in particular after scouring the notes though! Which is ->[Mehndi Laga Ke Rhakna, sung by Lata Mangeshkar and Udit Narayan] (I also need to figure out the influence the Azim Steppe had on him 🫢)

Ishi’li is… tricky. Cos I’m also still working on their playlist BDJDNFJDJFSK and the one song I’ve heard recently that made me think of him so so hard isn’t in the soundscape I’d set for them :T but. It’s rly Ishi.

Swydghem actually has songs because I listened to a playlist on basically endless loop while writing so even though it’s Baldurs Gate [Down By The River composed by Borislav Slavov] always makes me think of her LOL… Solkmyna gets slightly more associated with [How The Tide Rushes In by Anne Dudley] Jojoha doesn’t have a particular soundscape yet because it overlaps with Levraut regularly😅 (at least in terms of; the Dreadnaughts, which is one of the bands I listen to for him lmao.)

Colette is my monster hunter/Ffxiv cross oc and while I haven’t really given her a whole lotta thought I think [I Want It All by Arctic Monkeys] could definitely fit her vibe, lol. She’s someone else on my to-do for music thoughts, just a little further down the line from Ishi and Mochi uvu;

okay so i know i posted a few weeks ago that i did get to see the haikyuu movie when i was in japan last month and ive been so busy i didnt fully have time to process lol so ive been writing down thoughts as i remember them so, spoilers under the cut (no particular order)

final rally pov shot was craaaaazyyy (sidenote i saw challengers today lmao and they did a similar pov shot thing a couple times and it reminded me how sick it was to see such a complicated thing be animated)

in addition to that tho, while i liked the drop of the music then to just have it be kenmas breathing, i felt lie his breathing seemed a little repetitive?? like it was possibly just the same couple voice recordings repeated???

and also tbh.. i kinda didnt love how after the super amazing pov animation the way they chose to animate the full court flashback to tokyo training camp was just like a flat pan around the room. it just didnt feel all that dynamic after seeing something so cool, and maybe it was just my screening but the image was kinda blurry and not that crisp at that part

in general tho i thought the sound design was really cool, so much of it just straight up felt like a live match happening, and the part when kenma tells hinata to stay interesting and the sound cuts out?? ooo v effective i thought

and then the birdcaaaage aaaah i loved the way the wings like got all stifled in the cage when kenma first trapped him and then ofc the bursting out of it oooo im excited to see it again in imax

there were a tonnnn of small moments that i assumed wouldnt make the cut that actually did too, yaku sitting on lev's back when he's doing pushups, the bokuto/kuroo hair swap flashback lmaooo, goshiki having to share his ipad with tendou (i cant remember for sure now if he actually says that or not but theyre definitely in the movie), bokuto and akaashi coming over and talking to yachi and ah i think theres more. a lot of them were shortened down a bit, but i appreciated them getting attention nonetheless. sadly no kuroo/lev poop conversation though lmaoo

i thought the kuroo/kenma flashbacks were pretty good as well, i think they possibly added a few lines?? it seemed like there were more frames of stuff of kuroo being inspired by the "lowering the net" concept which was really cool bc thats really integral to his character to me. and then theres this line where kenma is like "hinata has kageyama and i have kuroo" and uhhhh that is news to me!! im like 90% thats new content lmao, and oooo it was good, the shots they chose with it too gooood

oh for some reason they changed how kenma flops??? he falls with his butt up in the air instead of just flat??? like why lmao, obviously that was like an Actual Choice they made bc they had to draw it and obviously had the manga as reference and it makes no difference other than to confuse me lolll

im interested to see it again distributed by crunchyroll too bc im sure some of the subs i saw werent right, a few lines just didnt make sense and there were a few instances of like "lead blocking"

and okay. i gotta talk about the chapter 298 stuff

its there its in the movie!! but,, it's watered down lmao

and i think i was also too in my head and overanalyzing it which im disappointed in myself for so im hoping on rewatch ill have a better time

the "hes always been one step ahead of me after all" was like as perfect as it could get tbh, it looks just like the manga and tsukki like says it just right and yamaguchi comes onto the court behind him totally focused and aaah really loved it. then the service ace and tsukkis little laugh it really good

but then i'm torn on the actual serve and block, there's no inner thoughts on yamaguchis "oh no the ball isnt drifting enough" and then tsukkis silent reply "no that was plenty" before stuffing it, so we arent hearing their like mind reading/intuition connection there which was a bummer. and thennnn im not positive on this bit but i dont think anyone repeats anything about the serve and block being the perfect play?? (its yamaguchi echoing ukai in the manga) and then no little flashbacks to how theyve been training

HOWEVER the big main flashbacks of seeing how yamaguchi walks from behind tsukki to in front of him are there!!! and the way theyre presented is interesting? i was like taken aback by the decision to have the clips being showed within their silhouettes as they move toward each other (i couldnt even tell thats what it was at first tbh..) that i missed whether or not all the panels were in it..... (majorly disappointed in myself for that one). idk visually i found it a little confusing i guess and so i couldnt fully appreciate and im hoping itll look cool on rewatch when i understand whats happening

and then the high five ahhh it was pretty good, idk if anything will ever live up to that manga panel for me, the joy and success and sense of achievement in that image means so much to me lol, but its animated fairly well. do wish they didnt cover tsukkis smile tho

then kuroo asks how tsukki feels about volleyball and he says its fun and he smiles and its.. fine. like ugh its just one of those things were this entiiiire section just slightly suffered from being a two minute segment of a movie instead of a whole episode (or even just half an episode tbh), like something about his smile and saying it was fun just fell a little flat for me and i was unfortunately a little sad about it, i was hoping for a little more buildup and like emphasis. this is a huuuuge culminating moment for him and it didnt quite feel like it to me bc the movie had to have other priorities where a season wouldnt have

later one when tsukki and kuroo are like battling at the net exhausted tho and tsukki smiles again that was pretty good, the animated is really top notch when theyre all panting n stuff, and the voice acting there was great, really liked it

“You keep twitching,” her thick, cold fingers rammed into you, filling your dripping hole with the base of her knuckles. Abby’s deep voice drawled in your ear, mocking you. “Baby…do you need more than just my fingers inside of you?”

Abby knew you couldn’t answer her. She’d ruined any chance you had at forming a coherent thought, let alone words. However, she liked to watch you try anyway.

“Ngh…haah…” You let out noises reminiscent of something, eyes glazed over. Your body was riddled with tremors, oversensitive as you jolted from every thrust of her hands. You didn’t know what to do with the pleasure, losing yourself to the width of her digits pivoting into your sodden folds and yelping as she pressed particularly deep into your sweet spot again.

My mind is going blank… The ecstasy she brought you wasn’t kind. The gangster was never gentle as you thought lovers were supposed to be, despite her claiming that’s what you both were. Whether your body was shuddering from pain or pleasure under her touch…most times you didn’t know. Even now, your skin was battered and bruised with markings of Abby’s own doing. It was red all over, throbbing from harsh choke holds and unyielding grasps, bright with both new and old bite marks. The torment was sweet. It was cruel. It muddled your mind until all you could muster was incoherent sounds of wanting, and she was more than happy to oblige.

“Since you’ve been good…” You gasped as she removed her fingers, soiling your hair with your own taste as she grabbed the back of your head to jerk it down. Your lips brushed against the tip of her strap, and you looked up into Abby’s sinister smile. “I’ll give you what you want. Get it nice and wet for me, baby.”

Clumsily you obeyed, taking her cock into your mouth. She hummed, eyes trained on watching you suck the silicone toy with growing need. The gangster had a strap the size of her fucking ego, and you found yourself already struggling to take it all in before you were halfway down. Suddenly, you were choking on her plastic toy as she firmly gripped your head, holding it still as she mercilessly thrust into your mouth. You couldn’t breathe, feeling tears swell up in the corner of your eyes as Abby continuously abused your drooling mouth. Saliva smeared all over the strap and your bruised lips, and Abby loved the sight of it, pushing in just to watch spit drip from your mouth and down her cock. She couldn’t get enough of the tears falling like pearls from your hazy eyes, or the look of your twitching throat as you struggled to breathe. The desperation in those doe eyes made her weak, it drove her mad–and all she could think about was locking you up, breaking you more, making it so that you couldn’t live without her–

“Fuck.” Abby grunted, ramming her strap down to the back of your throat and…keeping you there. You gagged, pushing at her hips in a desperate attempt to let her know you needed air. But she knew that. You knew she knew that. Just as well as you knew how much she loved to make you plead with her. To reduce you to useless pawing and clawing at her hands. To remind you that even now, she held your life in her hands.

Her wicked sneer at your suffering blurred before you blinked your tears away. Those blue eyes took the disoriented, fading gaze you fixed on her down hungrily. The way she massaged your temples with her thumbs as you fought for breath was almost sweet. Almost loving.

Almost.

When she let you go, you violently wrenched away, hacking as you took in much needed oxygen. Abby didn’t wait for you to recover–she never really did anyway–placing her hands on your thighs. Unceremoniously, she spread your legs, exposing your drenched heat. You squeaked, eyes wide as she hooked her arms under your knees, hands gripping your waist. She lifted your hips off the bed, positioning your cunt to take her strap.

“Wai-wait–Abby sto–!” The noise she tore from you was ungodly, a twisted cry into the air as Abby pounded into you. The force of her strength rocked you forward only for her sadistic reign of your hips to drag you back down toward her again, and you sobbed, broken down into constant pleading whimpers.

“D-don’t m-move. Please, I–I can’t…it’s too…!” She drank in the sounds of your distress, a wicked glint in her eyes you could only describe as predatory. Carnal with a lust to swallow you whole. You felt like prey laying down helplessly before her, and Abby's sinister grin as she watched you unravel didn’t help. Neither did her leaning down to bite your tender neck, forcing out a whine of pain. Tears fell as you felt her teeth sink in hard enough to draw blood, staining the sheets with crimson.

“How deep am I?” She nibbled at the curve of your ear, growling out the question. You shivered, flinching as she pressed her hand over your stomach. Your voice was a feeble jumble of words, and she didn’t do much to help, grinding the base of her strap within you. She stared, watching your eyes roll back as you let out a fractured moan. “Tell me.”

You couldn’t. Hell, you could hardly breathe, let alone speak. Instead you wrapped the edge of her fingers around your trembling own, weakly guiding Abby until she could feel the outline of its tip inside of you. She looked down at your hand for a second, before looking back up–meeting your tear soaked face as you finally managed a whisper.

“T-there. It’s so deep, s-so deep Abby I can’t think…” Abby’s jaw locked so fast you could hear it snap, eyes darkening as her grip at your waist tightened. In hindsight, you should have known showing her just how much she’d ruined you would affect her, but it was already too late.

“But if you can speak…” Now, she pulled out with a feverish look in her eyes, tutting softly. She smiled as if your frightened face only turned her on more…you knew you were fucked.

“You can think, can’t you baby?” She drove her thick strap all the way into you again, stretching you out in one fluid motion. You wept, crying out as Abby abused your hole. Your brain felt like it was shut off, and frantically you babbled, begging her to let you go. She merely let out a breathless laugh, thrusting into you as a sheen of sweat glistened over her body.

“God…do you know what goes through my mind when you cry like this?” She snarled as she pounded into you, watching your body quiver and face melt from the mind-numbing pleasure. “Doubt it. If you did…”

Abby wrapped her hand around your neck as she shoved you deeper into the mattress, lips curling as she darkly spoke.

“You’d never cry in front of me again.”

When you woke up, it was heavy.

Rays of light made you squint, and you frowned, feeling a weight over your body holding you close. Abby had her arm wrapped around you, snoring away. I passed out again, didn’t I? From the way your body throbbed, you guessed you had, frowning as you wiggled out of her grip.

Unlike her, you couldn’t just sleep around all day, you had a legitimate job–

You yelped, crashing to the floor when your legs gave out from under you. Bastard. Why didn’t she go easy on you when she knew you had work today? Why didn’t she care to ever go easy on you? You grumbled as you struggled to rise, legs wobbling. By the time you managed to walk again and get ready, Abby finally woke up, blinking sleepily at you as you straightened up your dress.

“...You’re up early…” You raised an eyebrow at the gangster.

“I have work, Abby.” The woman blinked some more before her lips pressed into a thin line together as she remembered.

“Right…you got the job.” A beat of silence followed. It made the hairs at the back of your neck stand as you tried to look uninterested. She’d let you find your own job this time–outside of tutoring Lev and Yara–and you knew she was itching to know about it. However, to your surprise Abby only let out an annoyed hum, sinking her face deeper into the pillows.

“Well, hope the little shits don’t make you too crazy.” It was your turn to blink back at her, staring before words slipped past your lips.

“That’s…it?” Abby opened her eyes again, and the sleep was gone from them. Shit. You hadn’t meant that.

“N-no I mean–”

“Where is this school?” You jolted from her hardened voice, tastefully hoarser in the morning.

“When do your classes end?” Abby rose, sheets giving way to her bare, tatted, toned body. You flinched, cheeks aflame as she came towards you.

“Uh, um–”

“Who else works with you? What exactly will you be doing with them? How much do you have to interact with them?”

“W-wait–!” You didn’t realize you’d stepped back until your back hit the wall. You swallowed, shrinking into yourself as the gangster placed her arm above your head, looming. It was hard to know where to look–faced with her breasts directly in front of you, and the rest of her muscular body blocking you off from finding a spot to stare at. In the end, you could only focus on her furrowed brows and disheveled, dirty blonde strands, unable to meet the eyes that assessed you so meticulously. Abby herself was drilling her eyes into your face, taking in the bright blush on your cheeks and averted gaze before she softly murmured.

“You’re new job…you like it?” Hesitantly you nodded, and she nodded back, tilting her head as she continued. “Then it’s okay. I won’t ask any of those questions–or snoop. As long as you say you’re safe, it's okay with me.” You let out the tiniest sigh of relief, skin warming as she gingerly caressed your cheek.

“But baby…if your idea of “safe” is different from mine?” Abby’s thick, scarred fingers moved to cup your chin. It was a firm yet gentle grip. However, you knew damn well what it could become…and the gangster knew you did too.

“There’s no telling what I’ll do.” Abby’s voice was deceptively calm. You would have thought the gangster was composed if not for the faint, crazed spark in her eyes that seemed to never go away. “If you come back here with so much as a scratch on this body…” Her hands traveled down, lightly squeezing around your neck. Panic sparked in your eyes, but Abby merely continued, eerily slow.

“I’ll break your arms and even your legs if I have to. Lock you up where no one can ever find you again. Then I’ll train you till you're feeding outta my hand and can’t imagine living without me. Do you understand, baby? How patient I’m being with you right now?"

Ah. At times like this, you found it really hard to imagine…how you'd fallen in love with someone as crazy as her in the first place.

The Magicians - Lev Grossman

So I just finished rereading The Magicians. It has been years. I’m pretty sure I read it for the first time a bit before 2014. I vaguely remembered major plot points, and having a conflicted opinion on it, and that still very much holds, but I don’t regret rereading it.

Let’s start with the bad:

Women - like most of the characters - are treated through the lenses of Quentin’s perception of them. This makes them belong to one of three categories: - mother figures, good only to cater to Q’s emotional needs - objects of desire, often to be denied but not that often, considering Q has literally nothing to offer as a person lmao - or unfuckable therefore unnoticeable. I swear every description of a female character stated if she was hot. At least one adjective was applied to her boobs. Men are barely described at all, which is funny given that Q quite literally is a disaster bisexual (derogatory). He watches one of his bros give someone a blow job, and feels vaguely offended said bro didn’t come to him if he wanted to suck dick. Later on, it is heavily implied that Q has a threesome with that bro and a girl, but the only explicitly mentioned part is the sex with the girl. In general, queer characters are given a weird treatment. Also I’m definitely too ace to relate to the amount of (thankfully not dwell on) sex in this book.

Anyway, Q’s character in general is pretty much irredeemable to me lol. He is so self centered he never understands why anyone is pissed off at him, keeps whining that he is a poor, misunderstood geek, and still has sex with two different women that are both smart and hot, plus is propositioned by at least one other. What they all see in him is beyond me. He cheats on his girlfriend and she stills care more about taking care of him than her own safety (even if she gets some amount of revenge sleeping with a guy he hates). There’s also some degree of albeism in the books, mostly implied, never quite touched on.

Wow, you might think. What can I possibly like about this book after all this?

Well, conceptually it does a lot of things I adore. It goes back on classic portal fantasy tropes and play on what happens when people are sent back home. Most of the main plot is about a boy who became a monster so he never had to go home again. There’s a whole deconstruction of the notion that there is a singular thing that will save you from depression. Q keeps running after things, thinking that they will make him happy for good, and is explicitly called out for this attitude. That’s probably the main way in which I find some positive sentiment towards him. I used to believe that, too. That I would magically find the one thing that would fix me.

The magic system is deep and interesting. It focuses on the amount of work that goes into it, how not fun it is, and I find that to be a cool take. It still allows the characters to do amazing things, and there’s some degree of unknown to it, which I love in magic systems. The “world between world” they use to go to their portal realm is well done, with that same balance of rationality and wonder. It feels mysterious, yet makes sense.

Beyond these things, there is a whole portrayal of the kind of dread you’re faced with when you do “higher studies” and pour all your mind into an endeavor that by very definition ends, leaving you stranded and emotionally stunted.

I’m getting rambly, but I think I highlighted the main aspects I love and hate in this book. I’ll pick the second one in coming months. I’m sure I will feel equally elated and enraged. Somehow, that tension creates a lot of emulsion in my own creative process, and I intend to milk it for all its worth lol

I know there aren't as many public schools as private schools but do you think there's token rich kids on those teams?

this is one of the FUNNIEST asks i've ever received and i am VERY happy about it because YES i absolutely DO think there are token rich kids on the nonrich public school teams so let's go!!

karasuno: kageyama. like . . . i imagine his parents have demanding work that make bank, which is why he was primarily raised by kazuyo. also, i've looked at the brand he uses for his bag - le coq sportif is CRAZY expensive. he's probably the only student in the whole school with something like that. if we want to go even further, kazuyo is a shiratorizawa alumnus, so his family's money or prestige or whatever could theoretically stretch pretty far back. and honestly? it's hard, switching to karasuno. kageyama feels like a fish out of water here where everyone seems to understand each other except him. but they try, and he tries, and he loves them so, so much, and he wants to be better than he was before. so he starts with gifts - little things like a spa day for everyone, or maybe a pile of quality snacks (he got the idea watching daichi treat them all the time), a new set of towels, whatever he can do to help them, to let them know how much he appreciates what they've given him.

nekoma: okay so uhh i did not mean to take it that far with karasuno LMFAO, anyways for nekoma i honestly think it's lev. like man something about his arrogance and confidence and how he doesn't seem to get connection the way everyone else does because he really never experienced that sense of community growing up as a rich kid. nekoma is where he learns and grows outside of that and comes to be a better person than he was before

Am i the only one who thinks that kenma would know about a borrower in their gym, watching them all play, the entire time and just doesn't say anythign because he knows how it feels to be shorter than others, underestimated and feel looked down upon? Not only that but he is an introvert, he wouldn't want them to be put through what he deals with from Lev Haiba.

omg i have soooo many nekoma thoughts dude it's not even funny... kenma would literally be the best giant bc he doesn't ask a million questions, make height jokes or even act like anything is different lmao it's just another person, whatever, but he would have a soft spot for a tiny for the exact reasons u said. he'd find himself worrying about them bc they're so vulnerable and they dislike talking to humans as much as he does. if the whole team knew about the tiny they would NEVER leave them alone and kenma would have to step in to protect them at all times. the conversation would be like: tiny: you knew i was here??? kenma: nods tiny: how long? kenma: six months tiny: SIX MONTHS? AND YOU DIDNT SAY ANYTHING? kenma: /shrugs/ i didnt want to bother you

ukai would be really confused and he'd try to act like he doesn't care that the entire team has now adopted a tiny little human being. like they'd all be clamoring over a tiny and he'd be like what the hell is going on here?! and once he sees them he kind of freezes, looks at them really surprised but eventually goes "well as long as they're not distracting you from practicing what do i care" but he secretly like obsessively thinks about the tiny and is always trying to see what they're doing but really just has no idea where to even begin when it comes to talking to them. the tiny keeps thinking ukai hates them and is very scared of him and he legit needs to be told that the poor thing is terrified of him he's so oblivious. he feels bad and slowly starts to make amends and he would be rlly sweet with them honestly, letting them explore the store and giving them free food all the time. loves answering their volleyball questions

takeda would 1000% immediately go 🥺🥺🥺 at a tiny and just start fawning over them. like real tears in his eyes he'd think they're the cutest thing on the planet. he would obsessively ask about the things they need at all times: did you eat today? did you have enough water? have you tried this food instead? are you sure hinata's shoulder is the safest place to sit? oh please dont climb up that like that you'll hurt yourself like he is just so protective it hurts. is constantly thinking of ways to make their life easier and spoils them endlessly. always asks if they can pick them up before he even lays his hand out, and he's always offering to take them from place to place and the tiny is like it's okay i can walk and tekeda is like b-b-but that's dangerous!!! he's just the biggest sweetie. would stare at the tiny for way too long while theyre in his hand

shimizu would be so chill about it. she'd be acting like she's met a thousand tinies before. the tiny would NOT know how to read her at ALL and they wouldn't think she hates them, they'd just be like ... so what's her deal. and ofc shimizu finds them so freaking cute upon first seeing them and is so curious about them. she just doesn't really know the best way to ask them questions without feeling annoying but would always get them food, water, literally whatever they need, she just shows up with it and it's very sweet. she's like a beacon of comfort for a tiny, just reliable and would die protecting them no questions asked. accepts them as a member of the team instantly

yachi would be the same as takeda but like 100x louder because ! it's a little tiny person like !!!!!!! she would literally squeal upon meeting them and reach to pick them up before seeing they do NOT like that and she asks if she could hold them, like she would ask if she could hold a cute cat lmao she would be so obsessed with them, asking sooo many questions and being oblivious to the fact that she's huge compared to them (not a dynamic she's used to) but she's very apologetic and sincere that there's no way a tiny could ever really be scared of her aside from the sheer size difference. she would always ask so where are they? before every practice, she wants them to like her soooo bad and would become instant besties with them and would love explaining human stuff as much as she loved asking about borrower stuff

I watched the original "petty pride" exchange when s2 came out. the amount of satisfaction I got from reading "What do you think of my petty pride now?" "I think it's fantastic." is unrivalled. it's one piece levels of delayed gratification good. I may love and be obsessed with other characters, but my heart will always be with oikawa tooru and rather than a win or a spot at nationals or whatever, this is what he deserves.

the last page of haikyuu canon we ever got featured oikawa being stupid and petty and cute and iwa bickering with him and it's like. what more could I ever ask for

ten books to know me

the way @broomsticks tagged me and I immediately threw myself into bed to answer this!!! books define me for better or *cough* extremely worse. okay here we gooooo these are a mix of older and recent-ish to avoid my usual Top 10

Fates and Furies by Lauren Groff — had to start with an all time fave, a book that pretty much defines what I'm looking for every time I pick up something to read. Characters you get mad at and root for anyway. A love story that's truly a love story, but much more than it appears. The writing!! The writing!!!!

On Beauty by Zadie Smith — This was the book that turned me into a contemporary literary fiction nut I think? Before I read it I was mostly reading fantasy.

The Magicians by Lev Grossman — speak of the devil!!! The Magicians, for me, defined that awkward phase where you grow out of Harry Potter but like. not really?? in retrospect I should have known I was going to be writing HP fanfic when this series became my whole goddamn personality. (Discord is my Free Trader Beowolf btw. Friends in my phone hehe)

Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir — this series (The Locked Tomb) defines my life RIGHT NOW. Discovering TLT was like scraping back a layer of my calcified cynical adult self and discovering the child that still lives in my innermost easily-delighted soul. It took me two tries to read GTN and reading it the second time was truly revelatory in a way that I haven't experienced in years ........... cannot explain but I cried several times reading Harrow the Ninth and sometimes I get weird and shivery about how fucking good and special and unique this series is.

Sorrow and Bliss by Meg Mason — I just loved this and it ALSO made me cry.

Beowolf: A New Translation by Maria Dhavana Headley — I really like Beowolf, I think it's so bizarre and funny, and this translation is hilarious and so special.

Manhattan Beach by Jennifer Egan — I love books set in New York City (SORRY) and Jennifer Egan is wonderful, and this book especially is like. so sexy and good

The Raven Cycle (but specifically The Dream Thieves) by Maggie Stiefvater — haha. Yeah. Well, u kno

Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie — just love it!! a love story!!

!!! Omg fun, okok. But only if I get to ramble after each answer because I like to yap.

1. My Girlfriend Self explanatory, but I have to say it anyway. @californiaboytoybilly I love you baby :)

2. The Ocean Its one of my special interests. I love the ocean so much. I wish there was an app or something that gave me an ocean factoid everyday. I need to wake up to fish trivia.

3. The Last of Us Another special interest. This series makes me extremely happy. I've been a fan of it since I was 13. It helped me come to terms with my sexuality because they made my favorite character/this character I almost looked up to queer. Ellie was the first queer rep I ever saw in media. Then I was coming to terms with my gender identity and TLOU2 gave me Lev. Then I came to terms with being bi and being attracted to men, then HBO's adaptation gave me Bill and Frank. TLOU was also the catalyst for me realizing I wanted to pursue a career in video game writing and development. I could play the games a thousand times and never get bored. It's gotten so bad, I can just quote the dialogue as it happens for 70% of the second game😭

4. Writing Writing has always been a passion of mine. I got assigned a project in 6th grade to write an original short story using the Hero's Journey and I enjoyed it so much more than I was expecting. According to my family, I guess I've always written creatively. One time I broke something and wrote my bio dad a poem to get ungrounded lmao. Apparently it worked???

5. My Cat His name is Nugget. I found him in a box when he was about as big as a Twinkie. He is the best. He is large. He has zero (0) brain cells. He is my angel baby and also my stupid idiot loser child. Say hi to him.

fjksjdskj this is awesome, ily and i love talking about tlou!! i’m splitting your message into pieces so i can respond easier and also so i can put a read more for spoilers :)

this is my BIGGEST gripe with the tv show so far. it bothers me how quickly they jumped into the ellie who isn’t scared of killing / death / infection / destruction. i really dislike how they make her seem unfeeling and even made her ENJOY watching joel beat a man to death. it makes me feel so icky like that’s not my ellie. it’s just not. that’s not even grown up part 2 ellie. idk i was really hoping that as the story went on, i would warm up to it, but it just gets worse and worse. luckily this is my only major complaint, so hey, i’ll take it

well i wouldn’t say he’s gonna die SOON, that’s not until next season. and i’m very excited for it lmao but yeah pedro is doing such a great job!! he brings a different energy to joel, more quiet and reserved (which i didn’t realize it was possible to be more emotionally repressed than he is in the game lol), but i’m here for it! his voice is great and i felt the same way about tommy’s actor - his voice sounds just like the voice actor

same, i’m overall not a huge fan of the changes they made to tess. i like the emotional layers they gave her, so that she’s not just the tutorial anymore and she’s an actual person, but i wish she was just a LITTLE bit less soft. it doesn’t sit right with me that they made her joel’s second in command when the game makes it very clear that tess runs the show. i loved her death scene (yes even the uncomfortable kiss) but i guess i wanted just a little bit more from tess

i actually really like the shaky camera, except in scenes where the characters are sitting or standing still, then it becomes really obvious and dizzying. but otherwise i’m actually a fan. i feel you about the lack of lighting, but i have the same complaint about almost every show i watch these days. everything is so dull and dark now :( i feel like the second and third episodes had more impressive cinematography so i’m hoping they were just finding their footing and it’ll get better with time!

yessss i’m SUCH a nerd for anything regarding fungi and i especially love the mycelium lore. i love that they did their research and it shows

i actually think it was smart to cut the execution scene and replace it with the scene of the infected child being killed and burned, because man... it doesn’t get any more brutal than that. and to see joel throwing him in the fire with no visible emotion.. that was powerful. FEDRA does seem way more capable here. in the game, we see their skeletons everywhere, implying that they’re being picked off easily by the fireflies, but in the show, it feels more like a war going on between them, with both sides being equally powerful.

i really hope they keep this scene the way it is; this is one scene that i really don’t think needs any changes

yeah i’m super curious what he’ll be doing now that his purpose has changed so much! i don’t even have any guesses yet, i’m just waiting to see what happens

assuming you mean dina and yesss i really hope so! i wanted to see glimpses of abby, lev, dina, jesse, etc. but they probably won’t show any of them in season 1 because they didn’t know if they’d be renewed for season 2. but who knows!

overgrown cities and towns are my freaking jammm. i love seeing the earth take over

i know you didn't ask for yakulev but i'm gonna give you my thoughts anyway lev thinks yaku is sooooo pretty but when he tells him that yaku knocks him on his ass and lev is so pouty about it because it was a compliment! but in hs yaku isn't quite comfortable yet so being called cute or pretty bothers him. lev also doesn't find out yaku is trans for So Long because he's stupid. the whole teams knows except him. the scenario i'm imagining is lev somehow finally touching yaku, whether it bc they're dating or lev catches him or they're being gay friendly and he feels yaku's sports bra and is super confused. yaku tells lev how much of an idiot he is for not knowing and lev is just like ?????

anyway, lmao. post time skip yaku is SO confident. he's got top surgery and besides his height, which he can't change, it was the worst part for him. so once he has that? it's all uphill. he KNOWS he's hot. and he's not exactly publicly out bc society you know but generally he's open about being trans!

Yeah... you are talking about Mike and El, who literally have nothing in common and only got together because of the supernatural mess. Will and Mike have known each other for years before this shit even started. And they have a lot in common. Tell me one thing that Mike and El share when it comes to interests. El doesn't even care about Mike's nerdy sides so he has to push it deep down to pretend someone he's not so she would like him whereas El is constantly hiding her persona to seem cool to him. Yeah they have a lot in common lmao. Mike and Will on the other hand both love nerdy things and games and have fun together and go to movies. It's just Mike thinks he has to hide that side of him to act ''grown up''.

El and Mike literally have nothing in common and would not even have met if not for the supernatural shit going on in town. Maybe stop projecting Mileven's lack of chemistry, interest and agency onto Mike and Will.

And yes I am not even going to bother censoring Mileven because those Milevens who keep denying Will's love by being ''subtly'' homophobic needs a call out.

Yeah, I understand, I just don't like cross-tagging because I want to avoid things coming back on me as much as possible and want to stay in my own lane.. But since we're here, just a quick PSA for any shippers who happen to stumble across this before you move on: I don't have a problem with those of you who ship it, I don't mind that you do. I only direct this towards people who deny Byler based on homophobic reasons when it's confirmed both by interviews, and hell, even in the show itself that Will's storyline this season is based around his sexuality and love for Mike. That is the confirmed narrative, and there's no way around that.

Anyway.

Yeah, we've seen it since season 1 that they're incompatible personality wise. Every time Mike would dive into his nerdy interests in front of her, she ignored him and walked away. He talked about how his TV was 10x bigger than Dustin's, she was disinterested. He talked about his dinosaur collection, she was disinterested. The seeds are planted even back then for the downfall of their relationship, but it's not until season 3 and 4 where they're officially in a relationship that you see how bad they actually are for each other. I think they could form a good friendship eventually, but as life partners, they're romantically incompatible. And you have to consider this is a narrative as well, and look at which way the narrative is going. Things might be different in real life, but in fiction, every narrative choice has purpose, and the contrast of Byler and M*lev*n is but one of them.
