i know a lot of the artists who post OC animatics on youtube are on tumblr or have a site for their webcomic or something similar. i know i could follow them if i wanted. but i dunno i feel like the experience is heightened when i get my information solely through youtube community posts and the occasional new animatic, i like piecing the story together by reading the youtube comment section

I made the mistake of looking up Xiran Jay Zhao's Tumblr because the Cait Corrain controversy just landed on my Youtube recommended, and... they really need to get offline. Shut their laptop and abandon the internet for a couple of day. They really do.

It's not normal (nor healthy) to constantly google your own name and respond to everything anybody might be saying about you.

They proudly link a ranting series of tweets in which they go at war against a redditor who dared say wrong information about them, and the redditor's comment had a whopping... five upvotes. Five.

And I'm sorry, but the redditor that was attacked was in the right too: plenty of writers keep their jobs forever, even if traditionally published, and Xiran's constant complaints that they weren't paid enough and "forced" to write other things to make a living sound like the tantrums of a spoiled child. There are writers who don't get 5 figures contracts for their debuts so they work normal jobs to support themselves.

Having a successful Youtube channel that allows you to talk about whatever you wish and in the meantime write novels for fucking Penguin, a major publishing house that comes with a lot of prestige and networking possibilities, sounds like a really sweet deal to me.

If you get to a point of internet presence in which your Tumblr needs a tag to debunk the slander others make up about you, you should really log off before your publishing house gets fed up with you and decides they're done with you.

Eh. I'm not sure it's that sweet of a deal even if it's one lots of other people would kill for. But yes, they've made a lot of missteps that aren't doing their career any favors.

They've always had a bit of a bully personality, going after way smaller accounts in ways they know will lead to others dogpiling. (And no, I don't mean me. Trying to start shit with me was comical but not a total asshole move, unlike some of the times they've targeted people.)

They need to grow up and stop thinking they're a righteous freedom fighter every time they disagree with someone... and also, yes, stop looking for all the hateful shit people send their way. I'm sure there's a lot of it, and it can't be good for their mental health to waste so much time on it.

The situation with Cellbit was not a coincidence, brazilians have been noticing that people were trying to dig everything of the brazilian ccs's lives to try to justify their hate, xenophobia and racism. His ex only saw this as an opportunity to spred more hate to him.

Bagi reciving hate for speaking about her opinions also came with a bunch of misoginy and xenophobic comments.

Non-brazilian people trying to use of Mike's "controversy", a.k.a. him refusing to be buddy with a open homophobe and transphobic guy, to speak badly about him was not a coincidence.

The brazilians Update pages of Mouse, Bagi and Tazercraft being hacked was not a coincidence.

Brazilian fans were already talking about how xenophobes would try to use the mininal negative thing to harm our ccs.

We were told over and over again we have no place in this community, and I saw many give up, they given up on the election arc and some many more are giving up now.

And I do understand people adivicing brazilians fans to move to Tumblr, but that doesn't help at all. First of all, QSMPblr is a english space, yes I know there people who are not-native speakers here, I am one and know a lot of others, but let's be honest, the main tag is 99% english, many brazilians CAN'T be here because they can't write or read in english. Also, we shouldn't be thrown out of a website because other people are being racist WITH US.

So I made my personal decision.

If I am going to treated like brazilian first and human second, that is how I am going to act.

Mike, Felps, Cellbit, Bagi, Pac, Richas, and any brazilian charcater that is added will do no wrong in my eyes.

Also same goes to any character played by Xandão(Alexandre the Capybara, Agent 18 and PomPom the Penguin admin) because even though they are portuguse, I know portuguse people had took some coletaral xenophobia for speaking the same language as us.

I don't expect non-brazilain to get my decision, and I am passing of the point of caring to be honest.

"I think that's a great fic idea" good news, it is, or something very similar. Inspiration is very clearly taken from @/turtletaubwrites series Numbers Game. The reader is a financial advisor who worked for Buggy, who then ends up under Croc and Mihawk because Buggy gets in trouble for ignoring her advice and fucking up the financials. Not trying to start anything, I don't think it's stealing to riff on smth but people should maybe be a bit more up front abt where they take inspiration from. At least give the OG a shout out lol

This is one of those things where there’s not an easy cut and dry answer I can give you or agree with, and I’m going to do my best to lay out why that is.

Is it possible the idea came from the person you’re referencing, but looking at the interactions for the first chapter I don’t see Alexa anywhere, not in the likes or comments.

I don’t even see anyone I follow in there either - which is to say that fandoms are HUGE and we don’t actually all know one another. (And that’s not to say there isn’t overlap in moots, just not with that particular story.)

Now, it’s possible there’s proof somewhere, but my point is that it is statistically just as possible that it’s just a similar idea. I wrote Quicksand’s reader as being a good office worker and coordinator - they weren’t specifically the accountant, but that could also be where the idea came from.

Reader being a competent and useful person makes sense when you’re talking about the Cross Guild. Neither Crocodile nor Mihawk are particularly patient people, and Buggy is enough frustration/comedic relief on his own.

If I shouted out to everyone who had inspired every part of what I write I’d hit tumblr’s post character limit before I got to the story itself. There’s a balance in there somewhere but it can honestly be case by case.

Despite your claim of not trying to start something it very much feels like you are, and while I appreciate you wanting to see credit given where it’s due, inspiration is so interwoven and complex, it’s hard to say exactly where an idea comes from for someone. So I’m going to assume that the vibes are unintentional - I’m sure you very much mean well. (If clarification is needed I’m not experiencing any negative emotions as I say this. I’m worried the vibes are there, but I will believe they were not meant.)

Heck, I had a story idea for a Eustass kid story I was (still am) excited about and when I shared it with my friends someone mentioned it was similar to something Mombat on Wattpad had wrote. And they’re right! The setup of the reader was similar - but I didn’t scrap the story idea because the story itself is going to be different.

And I know it is gonna be different, cause I had read that story by Mombat with my own eyes! And honestly it’s very likely where the inspiration sparked, even though I didn’t consciously make the connection until someone said something.

But there’s bound to be a lot of similar ideas in a singular fandom, because we’re all working with the same source material.

Now, I appreciate the intent, cause we all wanna look out for one another and such, but calling out possible sources of inspiration is maybe a bit much. Though I will say if there’s a dozen points of commonality, then it’s probably worth the mention.

here’s a bit of food for thought - Eustass Kid calling the reader Mouse is something I’m fairly well known for, and it wasn’t even my idea - and the friend I picked it up from had picked it up from someone else. Kaku calls reader Filly in most my one-shots but that’s from another friend. Penguin and Shachi calling reader lil’ Shoal was all my idea, but also I wouldn’t be surprised if someone else thought it up too.

Now, my long and exhausting reply aside, I do want to thank you for putting turtleaub on my radar. Her writing looks wonderful and I love how organized the blog and posts are. I am delighted to have something new to read even if my to read list is painfully long already. And there’s a possibility of making a new friend somewhere in there too \o/

I'm sure you've talked about this before somewhere but how did you end up in Antarctica? When were you there? What did you do? It's been a long term goal of mine to go to Antarctica (one of those holdovers from my childhood dreams) so it's super cool to 'know' (as much as following on tumblr is knowing) someone who's been.

I went to Antarctica with the NSF's Antarctic Artists and Writers Program, which has been retooled into PolarSTEAM. It's rather competitive and a bit of a whirlwind, so if you really really want to go down and don't really mind what you're doing there (and would like to get paid for it!) then I highly recommend getting hired on as a contractor. There are lots of cool people even if you're sorting recycling or washing dishes. I had a blast with the AAW, but if I were to go down again I'd totally do it that way.

Cowboy Jed gets behind the wheel and rides to victory in Super Mario Spikers! This is far and away my deepest cut yet for this roster, and I'm really happy with how he turned out. He was so deep of a cut, in fact, that when I alluded to his addition earlier today, no one was even close to guessing who he was.

Normally I'd dedicate the rest of the tweet to talking about all the things that went into Jed's art, but I really feel like I should actually explain who he is first. Cowboy Jed was the star of some commercials for Mario Kart Wii, advertising the game and its karts for sale at his store, the Mario Kart Emporium. Yes, he's ridiculously over the top, and yes, it's glorious.

So while Jed's obviously not in Mario Kart Wii, it's kind of funny to consider him as such, as he was from adverts made for the game.

While not the first non-game character to join the roster as I already added Hooded Robin from the Super Show and the Penguin King from the movie before (even though I don't think I've shown the latter off on tumblr yet), he IS the first "live-action" character. I wouldn't get used to these. I'd consider real-life people, such as people who appeared in games like Mario's Time Machine or Mario is Missing, and the live-action guest appearances from the Super Show, to be really, really low on the totem pole, if you know what I mean. But Cowboy Jed is so cartoonishly hammy that a character like him would fit the Mario universe like a glove. I like to think the Cowboy Jed ads are actually in-universe advertisements for the Mario Kart tournaments going on in Wii, and his emporium is where the characters get all their karts. That's what I point out in the bio, at least.

Now onto the art itself! I didn't change too much about Jed's appearance, mainly because for the more obscure characters I don't really have to. Still, I did take a few design liberties. I gave him some nice shoulderpads, along with tassels(?) along his jacket, just to kind of break up the color pallet more and make him more fancy. I also put a blue band around his stetson for similar reasons. To my knowledge, we've never seen Jed below the waist, so I decided to give him white boots. Also, those spokes are actually based on the three-star ranking from Mario Kart Wii! Thought that would be a cute touch.

Probably more immediately noticeable than his outfit is the fact he uses a Wii Wheel to drive an invisible kart around! This is obviously based on the game's boxart, as well as the game's intro where Mario and Luigi drive around with Wii Wheels. The motion controls were a pretty big part of this game's identity, so having that represented in someone who is decidedly a "Mario Kart Wii" character fits perfectly. I also based Jed's pose off of this shot from the opening.

The wheel is also Cowboy Jed's team icon. His super spike is another reference to the wheel, being based on the golden one you can get in your rankings if you're masochist enough to use motion controls enough to unlock it.

I always enjoy adding extremely obscure characters, and there's very few who are as obscure as this. Jed was a really fun one to bring to life, and imagining him take on the likes of Bowser or King K. Rool is probably what pushed me to draw him in the first place.

My tweet of him is gaining a lot of traction on Twitter too, moreso than most of my other characters. So others seem to like him too! I have to wonder just how many people had no idea he existed before they saw my art of him though.

Hi, I love your taste in literature so I'm turning to you with a request (I hope I'm not bothering you, if so please ignore this). I've been trying to get more into poetry (quite successfully) because I see so many great poems here on tumblr but usually when I try to read more from the authors whose poems I liked, I am disappointed. Do you have any recommendations for poetry collections that are good all the way through? Where you don't feel like you were cheated into reading them by one beautiful quote?

you are absolutely not bothering me at all. it's cool that our taste in literature seems to overlap (feel free to share recs with me anytime!) i think with poetry collections of one individual you won’t find one that hits all the way through all the time with every line. there will be some poems that resonate more with you than others, even when all are great examples of the craft. here on tumblr, we're almost too used to consuming poems in small, juicy bites that highlight some of the punchier lines, not just in a collection but within a single poem. but the build up to these disembodied quotes can be so satisfying as well and often enhance the meaning and power behind them. and also, with poetry more so than prose, a lot of the enjoyment comes from sitting with a poem and thinking about what it means to you personally, what you see or hear in it. so i just want to have that out there before i talk about some collections i have enjoyed in the last couple of years. (here is my poetry shelf on goodreads if you want to see more.)

when it comes to collections by one poet, i found that i usually prefer the ones that have some narrative thread woven throughout to connect the separate parts. i think "war of the foxes" by richard siken does a great job of establishing themes, motifs, and symbols that tie the poems together and has them in dialogue with each other. the collection (to me) is all about the creative process, the (un)importance of art, the influence of art on the creator and the audience as well as the discussions that happen in between the space between them.

i also really enjoyed both of ocean vuong's most recent collections. the latest, "time is a mother", deals with the grief of losing his mother, while "night sky with exit wounds" is mostly about the immigrant experience, identity (particularly how 'otherness' in the form of ethnicity, race, and queerness play into it), familial relationships, coming of age, etc.

eye level by jenny xie and don't call us dead by danez smith are two other collections i really enjoyed. the first is a very observant look at the worlds without and within us (think of it as eye level but also capital i level, if you know what i mean). the latter deals with themes of blackness in america, race, queerness (including the author's aids diagnosis), etc.

if you're interested in reading novels that are written in verse, i can recommend the poet x by elizabeth acevedo (made me very emotional) and autobiography of red by anne carson (is super weird, but my brand of weird).

with none of these works—or poets for that matter—i ever felt like they delivered less than good writing.

another option could be to spring for a curated collection that includes selected poems from different collections (or even different poets). i don't have a lot of experience with either kind, but i recently bought mary oliver's devotions and penguin's poems for love, so we'll see how i'll like those. ((there is also some unread ada limon and wendy cope on my shelf that i want to get to this year!))

1. The thing that got you hooked on hockey

I grew up in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, about an hour south of Hershey, PA. My dad grew up going to watch the Hershey Bears play minor league hockey in the American Hockey League, and he continued the tradition with me (and my sister sometimes.) At first, I only really liked to go to the games for an opportunity to spend time with my dad, which was rare sometimes, but in middle school I somehow ended up being really good at floor hockey when we played it in gym class. One day I managed to score a hat trick, even though I was terrible at every other sport. (I also had a crush on one of the players on my school's hockey team at that point.) So I just kinda thought hockey was fun at that point and started enjoying the actual games more. Then I picked a favorite player from the Bears independently for the first time, and it was Mike Green. I didn't know much about him, just thought he was cool. He turned out to be really good, and when he got called up to the NHL to play for the Capitals, I started watching the Caps games on TV. (I was also lucky that we got the sports channel from Washington DC, despite not being all that close to there.)

2. Your first ever fandom friend

I'm not too established in the hockey fandom on here. I have a personal blog that I rarely use anymore that I used to post occasional Caps stuff on and follow a few Capitals people, but that's on a different account that I rarely use. I know hockey has become a lot more popular on footieblr over the years. I remember a few years back when it was more unusual for these fandoms to overlap that I sent a message or two to people who were in both fandoms that I thought it was cool that they liked both sports like I do. Basically my only hockey friend on here is @giirlinterrupted (and I'm so grateful that she doesn't put Sidney Crosby on my dash like so many other footieblr hockey fans seem to do.) IRL I have been surrounded by hockey fans most of my life though, because it's pretty big in my state in general, so the main time I felt a little more alone on that was the 2 1/2 years I was living in San Francisco. Unfortunately I am currently surrounded by Penguins fans :( as I am living in Pittsburgh. My IRL best friend is also into hockey, but she is a Sabres fan since she is from Buffalo and now lives in Rochester, NY.

3. The jersey you would most like to own

I wish I had an old Mike Green or Jay Beagle Caps jersey. Mike Green is now retired, and Jay Beagle, I don't even know.

4. YOUR player (you only get ONE so choose wisely)

I still have an unhealthy attachment to Jay Beagle even though he's been off the Caps for years. None of the current players can live up to that.

5. A pairing that deserves more fic

Don't really read fic much, but Ovi/Backstrom (I'm so out of the loop that I don't even know if they have a ship name) are adorable together, and idk how popular they are, at least outside of Caps fans.

6. Your favourite on-ice moment

6/7/18. What else? I still cry when I think about it sometimes, and I can barely listen to "I Will Wait" by Mumford and Sons without crying due to that "Worth the Wait" video the Caps put out on social media after the Cup win.

The Riddler: So just when he was comfortable in this new relationship and not watching you over his shoulder every dive minutes, he was made aware of a little issue. He doesn't know when you got all chummy with Jonathan Crane but he also doesn't want to know. So you want leave him for Jonathan CRANE? Wait you don't? What do you mean, you want both? Yes, its a thing but why do you need his brain when you already have Edward's supreme brain!? He's the better man! He isn't taking it too well. Hes quite possessive, once you have his heart, you're basically locked in. He isn't the type to share and in a world where he is superior, why would he be okay with sharing you? Although, that being said, atleast it was Jonathan, had you said someone like Harvey Dent, he would have went nuclear.

Scarecrow: He's kinda thinking you need your head examined. Maybe he needs his own, did you just say you wanted to be in a polygamous relationship with him and Edward Nygma? You're thinking of the right Edward right? The narcissistic one? Has a thing for questions marks and green? Oh you are. So who are you trying to torture, Jonathan or himself? Whilst he might be a little more open to the idea with time, he isn't thrilled that it's Edward Nygma. He understands Jonathan isn't exactly an open book- more welded shut- but does that really mean you have to bring Nygma into this? He's too much on quite literally anything. Perhaps you were the happy medium in this dynamic.

Two-Face: That conversation takes a turn because amidst the talk, Two-Face cut in. "Aren't we enough?" You thought he was referring to Harvey and answered easily. However as Two-Face questioned you further, you noticed that Two-Face's wording painted a different picture. That you were already being shared by two people, Harvey and Two-Face. "Wait that's not how that works!" Harvey cut in. "You don't even have a body!" "Of course I do, dumbass! What do you think you're standing in!?" This continued and you thought to yourself perhaps it was better to bring up Oswald some other time. Now you were thoroughly lost and didn't even know how Harvey actually felt about it polygamy.

Black Mask: Absolutely not. The Joker? Okay first of all, sweetness, you come in here asking him to share you but on top of that, you want him to share with the Joker? Are you high? Fully expect him to either check your eyes or flat out dismiss anything you had to say under the pretenses that you are high. There's no way you'd ask this sober. The clown? Pfft. Roman Sionis never shares with anyone and he'll be damned if he starts with the clown.

Penguin: Okay so it'll turn into a big old rivalry between Penguin and Two-Face but if it makes you happy...he will reluctantly accept this. The key to this working out is to maintain the amount of attention you always gave to Oswald. He works a lot as it is, so this should be easy to manage but he might get a little jealous every so often. So keep an eye on him and see how it goes?

Joker: Very accepting of this, didn't need much convincing at all and you aren't entirely sure if that's because he wasn't listening or if it was because he didn't actually care what you did. He cackled at the mention of Roman Sionis but overall had very little to say than cracking a few jokes about Sionis and how the happy family not only has an addition, but also has become a tight squeeze. Maybe just take it and run with it?

They grew up. All the best artists left to Twitter for a larger audience, all their younger and growing fans followed. Those who were left, lost interest after the UI change. Leaving only people who do half assed fetish edits, making the atmosphere uncomfortable and strange to newcomers.

Buzzly was promising but the mods were total dinks and it crashed and burned.

I miss it too. I really do. I've never had fun with my art like I did in those days, or the fleeting few days on buzzly. I won't lie. I really want it back. Going back isn't the same. It isn't home when everyone else is gone, it's just a box. Same with my attempt to return to scratch. I'm hoping for another sites golden age. I'm hoping I won't be wistful and mourning for tumblr anytime soon.

Its actually almost annoying. How much deviantart could bank off the nostalgia of others, and chooses not to. For just a newer sleeker design. Even back in the day, with core being at club penguin levels of pay to have fun, it was whatever.

Somehow there was so much peace in a world ruled by sad tweens and stressed collage students.

Sometimes I feel like if there's a heaven, its everywhere you're nostalgic for.

It does ease the pain though to do dives. I like collecting bases from like 2007-2012. I like to study the styles of the time and such. It's nice. But it is a type of therapy of lingering sadness. I imagine a lot of historians feel the same way.

Where are you now? Do you have kids? Do you still own any of these charicters? Did they get new homes? Did you forget about them? Do you still talk to these people? Are you still into these animes? Are you still a girl? Are you still drawing? Are you still alive?

I don't know what stranger. Watching someone walk out the door and getting total silence, or a message from a family member that they've died. There's something morbid about that closure, someone who never knew me but usually influenced me. It's happened such a number of times that I feel like it's vital to this discussion.

When we were gods

This one is the story of eskel x kit! Starting somewhat at the beginning, right behind my two piece jaskier fic "take me to church"

So it'll explore how they met (again), all of their trials, and tribulations, their time on the path and how they fall in love!

I have a teaser part if anyone is interested. Though I am not ready to start posting the actual story. It's a very very in depth piece I'm pouring a lot into.

Whispers of stars

This story has several names at the moment, this is just the one I've used on tumblr since you asked and I didn't wanna be like uhhhhh *breaks out wheel with options and spins dramatically* (okay I kinda did)

Others being "the way the stars whisper" "written in the stars" and "the stories stars can tell"

For background information, as I've learned many people didn't know, elves (like penguins and many other birds!) Essentially mate for life. They have one love, and if that love passes for any reason- they do not remarry. They also don't sleep around (according to Tolkien since I know this is common in fics and no hate! I am just going by what he says specifically because I WANT TO) because for elves sex = marriage. And they marry for both life AND death.

I believe this story is going to be 100% OC, as i haven't even decided if I'll be sharing it online online, as of yet. I have let others read it. The only one who has completely caught up to where I am currently at is @thehistoriangirl 😂💜 she's waiting (im)patiently for me to continue.

This is the story of Haldir and his love, where she is taken from him (kidnapped) and how she gets brought back after she's found, how they heal together, and conquer all adversity together. He does go to Helms Deep, but he doesn't die, ans comes home and they deal with the fall out of everything else coming about.

That is as vague as I can make it (not because I want to) as to not lose completely everything in my explanations. So if you'd like to know more, or anything specific I would be more than happy to share!

As a writer, I can speak for many of us here, we LOVE talking about our pieces simply because we have so much that goes into it. Lore that doesn't make it into the final product but gives explanation. Pieces we had to cut due to fluidity. Alternative routes not taken, and why!

We love our characters and we want you to love them, too. We just don't get the same sort of audience wanting to see bit and pieces of our WIPs as artists do (mainly because they're not quite as interesting as artists WIPs as it's hard to get a full picture from a few sentences)

You were my very first ask, so you made me very happy too! Someone was actually interested in my ideas! And then I spiraled into fandom stuff and now I'm here. I thank you, very much! I, too, have all my headcanons first written down in Google Docs before I make the Tumblr post to make sure that it's as good as can be. Though that still doesn't stop me from overlooking things sometimes...

As for my new face, drawing @atomivet's ask gave me the opportunity to make a pfp similar to the stock image I was using but in my style. So I made the shift. It's a drawn me now! And I see you! From my little window!

Okay everyone loves a good catboy/girl au. As do I. There's something cute about seeing your blorbo get kitty ears and their friends teasing them.

But you don't have to stick with cats! There's obviously a lot more animals around so why not use them? Here, have a list of ideas I've been coming up with over the past six hours

Bee au. Blorbo gets black or yellow streaks in their hair, antennae, wings. They have to try and stop themselves from getting nervous or else everyone will hear the humming. Bonus points if they enjoy someone playing with their hair since bees like it when they're regularly groomed. Bees are also obsessed with cleanliness, if you want to go even deeper into it.

Bird au! Learning to use and handle wings, especially with the huge wingspan that comes with human size. Caring for feathers, picking up fallen ones, moulting season. Species-specific things like female nightingales being mute or barn owls sticking with one partner for life- even penguins proposing with pebbles, although I've never seen a penguin au 😂 if you're really feeling murderous, then go Australian Magpie and watch the carnage happen as someone aggravates a sensitive blorbo.

Standard mermaid AUs are great (please write more) but what about other marine animals too? Take inspiration from that one Monster High movie and go for an octopus or eel aus, or even just using a highly distinctive fish (anglerfish, for example).

If you're gonna do cat or dog anyway, then try something with one of the big ones! Lion au blorbo getting thicker hair, leopard au with the soft, thick tails and ears.

Foxes! In some fandoms this is common but in others it's not. Fennec foxes with their huge ears, red foxes with their bright colours. Sensitive hearing, a penchant for trouble and an instinct for digging holes and putting things they like in them... It's a chaos recipe, if you will.

Dragons! Different types of dragons with mystical powers. Blorbo having to lean backwards all the time because of the weight of wings and a tail suddenly being added to their pack. Scales growing over injuries, people coming to try and get a valuable dragon's scale. Hoarding shiny things, making a nest out of blankets.

Less-talked about mythical creatures or ones from certain cultures! Go deep diving through mythology from different places and see what you can find. Who knows.

If there's a character associated with a particular animal, feels easy but do it! Go through and see if there's any fanfics already with that idea, and take inspiration from them if you need to! If it's not that popular of a character, maybe you'll be the lucky one to start it off.

If there's other fictional animals or species in your fandom, go ahead and use those! They'll be guaranteed to be an interesting mix, and you'll learn more about your fandom as a result through the research.

Go off everyone, I've had bee au in my head for a while and wanted to make a list of unconventional AUs I'd like to see more of. This is a blanket permission to use any of the prompts/ideas here (and repost to Pinterest if you really want to, but ONLY if you include my username. I get a lot of old Tumblr-post writing ideas from there so I don't mind my ideas being shared.)

I made this gif exactly one year ago and completely forgot to post it here, I thought I could finally share it on tumblr now that it’s its birthday!! I just made this because I wanted Jotaro to hold a penguin <3

who's your favorite player and why?

ok so i couldn't narrow it down to one so i was going to narrow it down to five. That didn't work either so without further ado in no particular order here's my top 10 players and why:

1. Brenden Gallagher - He was the first hockey player i knew of (don't come at me i live in Australia) and i got really into his personality through all of the Habs media stuff when the Gallys were a thing and i've grown to love his playing style. My thing for stupid rat boys can be traced back to him.

2. Tyler Seguin - He's the first hockey player that i really just fell for (yes i know stereo-typical) for about 6 years i was a die hard Stars fan because of my love for him. He's done some kinda sketchy stuff when he was young but imma be honest i find the whole twitter incident fucking hilarious more than homophobic and he's shown a lot of active growth over the years and has actual receipts towards actually being a good person - notably attending BLM marches and kneeling in solidarity. I can no longer call myself a stars fan (fuck ja benn) but I will forever be a Seguin fan.

3. Braden Holtby - First of all have you seen that man? How can you not love him? Like even if he had the personality of a burning dumpster he's still beautiful as all hell. That being said he's got a great personality and is so stead fast in his morals that i could and have cried over his vocal allyship with the LGBT community for so many years. Also the turtle saga, hope his turtles are doing well down in dallas.

4. Claude Giroux - The mouth on this man, iconic. This may be controversial but when i first started actually paying attention to hockey i was being guided by a penguins fan, they made me watch a game with them, of course it was against the flyers and much to their chagrin I instantly fell in love with Giroux. As a got more into hockey tumblr i just kept finding out more and more about this silly little man the more i loved him (i would like to mention danny briere as an honorary mention along with Claude since i have watched that one video where they're in Germany thousands of times). Now here I am a flyers fan.

5. Travis Konecny - That's right another little rat bastard. Even when i was sorta out of the loop with hockey i couldn't stop paying attention to this little man. I have a habit of keeping track of all the short kings through out the league (shout out nathan gerbe). I think TK should have his own personal mic for every game, i want to hear every single thing out of that garbage cans mouth. That one game where he finally gets Crosby to bite and is just having the time of his life.

6. Nolan Patrick - Yeah yeah yeah, we all saw this coming but hey nothing wrong with the classics. Beautiful man, I wish i was him. So much envy, also crippling migraine gang!

7. Erik Johnson - He's the reason I got back into hockey. I honestly cannot explain it, I don't know why but there was just something about the missing teeth that drew me to him (the worst part is I'm not even joking). This man and his fucking horses, absolute legend he just names them after his teammates without blinking. Also his private account on Instagram is "bighorny" and he uses it primarily to talk shit on himself on avalanche posts while unsuspecting fans try to defend him.

8. Nicke Backstrom - My love, he's the reason I learnt swedish. Another member of the crippling migraine gang, but for real when I was a 14 year old kid suffering from a migraine disorder knowing that other people who had achieved crazy levels of success like Nicke was very comforting. Also I think his sense of humour is wildly underrated causes totally dry.

9. Matthew Tkachuk - I know, I know, another little rat boy. I think the whole legacy thing is really interesting but like beyond that he is such a defined player in terms of he's carved out the perfect little nook within the league and that nook just happens to be getting under everyone else's skin. Obviously, everyone knows the whole thing between Matty and Drai but I feel like people have forgotten about the whole Drew Dougherty thing. "ah yes fellow associate" king shit.

10. Carey Price - And we're coming full circle back to the habs. Pricy is an absolute class act everyone knows that, he's such a kind person to all of the fans. I seriously miss the PK&Pricy bromance :( also, his wife is beautiful and the whole thing with him using his wife lingerie as a pocket square lives in my mind absolutely rent free. Also goalie so <3

I could make this list longer (they'd all be goalies, didn't put enough goalies on this list) but ill stop now.

Extra little shout out to all the flyers rookies too.

Please use the phrase personal favorites rather than classics when refering to Drarry fics. There's no such thing as a Drarry classic we all have our own individual likes and dislikes. For example, a number of the fics in your post are fics I think are pretty bad or boring. My list of classics would be very different. Also, listing classics gives a kind of importance to the listed fics and makes excluded writers feel like shit. Be kind. You don't need to force your view on all of fandom.

Hi, Nonnie. I want to answer this question at face value because it seems like you’re carrying some pain along with you. 

I called my batch of 10 book covers “classics,” because they are directly based on the Penguin Classics line of books. It’s tongue-in-cheek, and I follow it by saying “a random smattering of some of my favorites fics.” 

Yes, we all have our individual likes and dislikes. I would argue much (if not all) of the prestigious “literary canon” is only the likes of certain demographics and people in power. Experts don’t agree what classics are either, and every time any Top 100 list is published by some big publication, a lot of people (rightfully) point it it’s mainly men, or too western, or too white. 

The beauty of tumblr is that we all have a “publication.” I, random lady, can share and uplift exactly whatever I like. 

I just read the Wikipedia article for “classic book” and do you know what it says? “A classic is a book accepted as being exemplary or noteworthy, for example through an imprimatur such as being listed in a list of great books, or through a reader's personal opinion.”

Interestingly, it also talks about the foundation of Penguin Classics. “Penguin Books, the parent company of Penguin Classics, had its inception during the 1930s when the founder, Allen Lane, was unable to find a book he actually wanted to read while at Exeter train station. As the company website tells it, ‘appalled by the selection on offer, Lane decided that good quality contemporary fiction should be made available at an attractive price and sold not just in traditional bookshops, but also in railway stations, tobacconists and chain stores.’”

Railway stations, tobacconists and chain stores! How equalizing! Consider me my own Allen Lane, making my own self-determined list of classics, forging forward into the railway station of my personal tumblr that no one is obligated to follow.

Nonnie, I’m guessing you write fics, or make art, and feel sad that not enough people seem to notice. “But I’m at least that good!” you think, looking at all the rec lists you scroll past. But love: you can’t see every single rec list or reblog through the lens of excluding you. This exclusion mindset is a recipe for never-ending pain. 

I lifted up a small, arbitrary group of people in the spirit of celebrating these works because they spoke to the exact combination of life experiences and random circumstance that make up me (and the first ten works that happened to be in my randomly ordered bookmarks list). If you find this unkind — and we will set down the fact of you calling me unkind while calling other fics “pretty bad or boring” — Nonnie, if you feel like shit from a random lady’s happy tumblr post... I’m sorry you are hurting, but it is not me who hurt you. Your pain is something you need to figure out for yourself. If writing doesn’t bring you joy, find things that do. 

If you’re feeling anxious and terrified for other reasons, and scrolling and scrolling through tumblr getting more upset, I get it. We’ve all been there. But go rage at mortality, or the corona virus, or the human condition, or the dying of the light. Don’t squash other people’s tiny slices of happy. Don’t interrupt my sunny quarantine morning breakfasting with my toddler to tell me I’m unkind for making something, and sharing it. 

Don’t find needless reasons to add rocks to your “things that hurt” pile. 

Be braver than that. Be more humble than that.
