#got a LOT of thoughts on this one ngl #bethan talks about dw #dw spoilers #there was a lot i liked about it. some things i'm not too sure on. some things i will be rotating around my brain for like a week.#it also very much did not go in the direction i thought it was going to #in some ways i kind of wish we'd got a full folk horror ep bc that would've been neat #however i do think it was interesting as it was even if i'm not sure it 100% fitted together!#main questions though are a) who was the Woman. bc i'm not sure she was ruby before that last scene tbh #and b) what was she saying that freaked people out so much?#idk it felt a little weird for them to hinge so much of the episode on those two questions and then. never really answer them hm #but yeah not trying to sound too negative!! i think i did enjoy it on balance there's just a lot to think about haha 😅

man i've been seeing people say crazy things about mithrun and it's pretty awful considering everything the character has been through

if it was all in good fun that's dubious but it seems to come from a desire to get others to hate him.........?

it would be fucked up to say other characters are ugly for their unique physical appearances and people would get mad right? can't we extend that same consideration for mithrun? he’s barely spoken and people are openly mocking his prosthetic eye and calling him a fucking dog like it’s their job..it's just so weird and overtly ableist like a lot of other things people end up saying about him...

calling him “grandpa” though he's relatively the same age as chilchuck. if it's because of his disability then first of all wow. and that's overlooking how he's actually jacked as fuck (for an elf and especially a tallman) and a physically skilled fighter and has a lot of stamina. the reason mithrun keeps falling out is because his disability makes him overexert his powers

I’ve been seeing a lot of complaints abt lack of diversity in dunmeshi since the animation. What do u think abt it? Like I get wanting representation and giving black and brown ppl more characters to relate to would be absolutely fabulous, but I also feel that the western fandom are sometimes too entitled with things like that. I even see some ppl completely discrediting the whole show just bc there wasn’t a black character? This was meant for Japanese ppl. Most mangakas don’t expect their work to be animated initially unless they are already hugely successful and therefore don’t expect to get a major international audience, so the representation they put in will inherently be more relevant to Japanese ppl. But then again Japan does have a small but still significant black population, especially in the big cities so it’s still sth reasonable to ask for. Just, u know, not sth to discredit the whole show for especially considering the medium I think.

I must preface this once again by saying I'm just some guy™️and I'm not gonna say if it is or isn't good representation cause that's subjective. Rather I'll try to explain what I think about people's reactions (cause that's interesting to me)

I understand the complaints about the lack of diversity, and I don't think "this was made for a japanese audience" to be a good argument since the basis of the story and most of the characters are based on western fantasy. So most of the characters aren't even japanese, so it wasn't really a case of relatability.

I believe the arguments of lack of representation dungeon meshi suffers probably comes from a backlash to the overwhelming praise it gets, I think some people (me included sometimes) get a little too overexcited and overpraise it, especially when it comes to the representation.

We compare it to other anime and I think for that we kinda exaggerate on how much representation there actually is, cause most anime has none. So I guess some people dislike that the "bare minimum" is being praised as if is revolutionary, it can be frustrating for someone that wishes for good and real representation for themselves when they see the safest representation ever being praised as something out of the ordinary. I guess anime fans (ME INCLUDED) are like battered partners as soon as we get someone that treats us like human beings well we think they're god lmao.

The internet hates subtlety and critical thinking tho. So "It's not as good representation as you're hyping it up to be" becomes "this has shit representation" and people ignore that it IS a step on the right direction, especially when it comes to anime.

I think dungeon meshi is pretty cool representation wise for what it is tbh, especially when it comes to character design. Ryoko Kui is a master of representing varying people of all shapes and sizes, and I can tell as an artists she makes an effort with what she draws.

Why the main character are the most convetionally atractive well built ones, Why her drawings outside dungeon meshi are so much more diverse than dungeon meshi itself etc is things we can only guess 👍 (remembering that yeah, she doesn't really draw black people even outside dunmeshi)

Anyway once again I just think nuance is the ideal, it doesn't need to be "the best representation ever" nor "the worst representation ever" it is what it is, there's good things about it, bad things about it and okay things about it.

#Plus everyone is racist and you need to make a conscious effort to stop being racist #specially if you live in a mostly homogeneous country #I might be dark skinned but only recently (like in the last 5 years) have I started drawing more dark skinned characters #america is much farther in cultural awareness than many other countries #which isn't an excuse more of an explanation to why its rare to see good representation from anime #dunmeshi complaint

I'm sure you've heard already but ppl on Twitter tearing sentiment about Louis entering relationship with Armand for protection TO SHREDS. Going off how flirty Louis looked on the date. I just have two question for them:

1)What is that happened after that date that would've made Louis change his heart? (Sarcasm) Yes, Louis clearly boldly flirted with Armand there (lets ignore lestat third-wheeling and Louis taking photos of lestat with Armand being at the side). And AFTER he nearly died by Armand's hand. And Assad confirmed that Armand was planning to kill him, it wasn't just a sham. So, it's understandable that Louis started to look at Armand differently there.

2)"it's also the beginning of the ultimatum with Armand and the beginning of the darker side of their relationship" from Jacob's mouth. They need to look up definition of ultimatum. It's a CONDITION usually combined with a threat. We're being NICE when discuss this scene because I haven't seen single person imply that Armand was pressuring Louis into sex. All I saw people saying this situation happened unintentionally on Armand's part because he's used to power plays, toxic relationship etc

People are sooo hypocritical in this fandom. They SWEAR they love toxic love stories but get scared by toxicity. Bet same people who are pissed about this believe that Louis didn't want sex in ep6 and that he did it to appease lestat. Picking and choosing where to see abuse and where don't.

Also it seems like some give more importance to reviews than cast's interviews. I read reviews and read about tender romantic loumand in Paris.

I also heard Hannah saying that cage in bedroom was intentional. I also read jacob saying Armand is dark looming presence and that he serves function to Louis and that Louis becomes dissatisfied. There was a lot in Jacob's interviews actually.

Reviews and interviews don't always say the same thing, sometimes even contradict each other (Assad and Eric mentioning devil's minion and reviews saying there's nothing between them). And you would think people will focus on words of someone who WORKS on the show, but they prefer to hear only things that support their headcanons

Tbh, I have been taken aback by how willingly everyone is jumping/hating on that post (and, I mean, I have pointed out the same thing???), because... it completely dismisses what Assad and Jacob have said...

AND it completely dismisses Jacob's acting there.

Really look at him. I'm not going to pull up the gifs now, it's the current episode, go look at Louis' face and expression and body language... and then remember what his "inner Lestat" said.

And we all know how good an actor Jacob is, right.

I mean. The fandom dismissing what cast and creators say in favor of accusations is nothing new. God knows I've ranted about this. But... I mean... how can you think Louis, after Armand almost kills him... would just happily enter a relationship? When he just asked to be decapitated??? When the only thing that stopped him - was Armand's comment that Claudia wouldn't be around for long.

THAT is, as far as the tale is currently spun, what made Louis stop. Literally.

Jacob said that it would go darker from here and I... don't doubt it. But I think some people are not prepared, lol.

Dubai is a golden cage, by intent and set design as stated. And Louis was "the little birdie for the next 50 years".

Or does anybody really think the overlay with the coven telling Claudia that was a coincidence....

Or wonder why AMC did not promote Loumand as a couple... at all.

I'm just glad the gag orders have dropped away, at least I can listen now to Assad, Jacob, Sam and Rolin telling it like it is.

Bive & Mach

So, since some people liked my little Bive and Mach post, I’m making another one but this time, the headcanon will be more organized. So here ya go. It’s a lot but if you love these ladies it’ll be WORTH IT!!

Bive's first thoughts on Mach: Bive believes she knows who Mach really is, which is why she respects her so much. She knows what she's capable of (ex, killing MR) and she wants to make a little pact/alliance with her, similar to the one she has with Pest. Thing is, she's very intimidated by her to the point she gets paranoid over small things she (Bive) does or says. She makes sure she looks neat, doesn't smell bad, talks with confidence etc. She knows she only has one chance to make a good impression for this woman, otherwise she might unintentionally become her enemy.

Mach's first thoughts on Bive: Mach probably has folders of all the elevator guests with tons of their personal information. (I'm not sure where I've gotten this hc from tbh, I just imagine Mach as a very professional business woman?) Mach is very suspicious of Bive and thinks she knows everything about her. (Spoiler she doesn't) She's under the impression that, since she (Mach) hasn't seen the dream parasite in her dreams for a while, that she has escaped and taken over someone's body. She heavily suspects Bive of being possessed due to how Bive acts but unfortunately, that's just Bive's personality and behaviors. She thinks lowly of Bive at first, going so far as to talk to Spilt about Bive for more information.

Bive's future thoughts on Mach: When the two get to know each other more, Bive slowly starts to grow affectionate to Mach. She watches her closely, listens to everything she has to say and has become incredibly patient with her work. She definitely likes how unpredictable Mach can be, but sometimes it triggers her anxiety. Bive makes sure she's respectful to Mach at all times. She's also learned to be respectful to Pilby as well after seeing how close Pilby is to Mach. At first, Bive only does this to look good in front of Mach, but later down the line, Bive becomes fond of Pilby. Then EVEN FURTHER down the line, Bive starts to develop heavier feelings for Mach.

Mach's future thoughts on Bive: Mach has become less suspicious of Bive after learning that this is just how she is. Initially, she finds it weird and doesn't understand why she's so paranoid. But after Mach and Split get to know each other more, Mach starts to understand as it's explained to her. Mach is more on the monotone side personality wise, so it's hard for her to REALLY understand why people feel certain things. She starts to recognize why Bive acts the way she does and will occasionally reassure her. Mach, Bive, Pest (and probably Split and Pilby) form an alliance to keep each other safe at all costs. Mach unfortunately doesn't have any romantic feelings for Bive, at least not yet. Bive's feelings for Mach are very one-sided and sometimes (unintentionally) make Mach uncomfortable.

(sorry hardcore Bive x Mach shippers, there ain’t a happy ending for these two in my world)

There’s a lot of things in Dark Revival I ended up disappointed about, but despite my love of Sammy Lawrence, Sammy barely appearing was not really one of them. At the time, I’d commented to friends that the complete lack of Sammy mentions in the hype leading up to BatDR meant he was either very important or had only a cameo appearance, and I was actually pretty delighted about the Cyclebreaker cameo – it’s a moment that takes him startlingly seriously, that wasn’t just him quoting one of his four catch phrases; it’s... a kind of moment we haven’t seen from Sammy before. The part where he gets shot was like, where my expectations were, so the cyclebreaker thing was a pleasant surprise.

But like, ever since The Cage was announced… we knew Sammy kind of had to be in it. Like, Henry says “how did WE escape” and it’s set in the SPECIFIC place and time that Sammy also is; literally the only reason for Sammy to not be a significant character is if the creators actually didn’t want anything to do with him. So I have to admit the announcement that WE CAN CONFIRM that SAMMY WILL PLAY A MAJOR ROLE IN THE CAGE!!!!!!! RESTORED TO HIS CHAPTER 2 CREEPY GLORY! is just…… ugh, it’s hard to articulate why this tweet frustrates me so much.

Like………………….. "he's in it more" is not the only thing people care about, surely! What is he doing? What is his role in all this? What does he even WANT? In a review, "he's back to his chapter 2 creepy glory" would be a powerful recommendation; in a tweet from the creator right after preorders go up, it feels more like, "Hey, remember the thing you wanted? we DEFINITELY did that thing you wanted and we did it SUPER WELL so preorder our game please!!" Give us an intriguing line of dialogue or a hint about what he's doing (opposing you? helping you? uneasy truce? trying to find bendy?) and you wouldn't even need to promise us that he plays a major role; we'd be curious to learn more.

So this reassurance ends up doing the opposite, for me, because I still don't know if the creators even understand what I like about Sammy. The thing is that the circumstances of BatDR (there's a little Bendy running around, the Ink Demon is claimed dead but actually it's not, Wilson is trying to become the Lost Ones' new Big Brother) could've been INCREDIBLY relevant to Sammy -- that's why people wanted him to show up in BatDR, to see what he thinks of these developments and how he would react to them!! So if you're interested in Sammy, the character, then it would not be hard to hint at like, what his deal is – "Sammy knows the Ink Demon is out there somewhere and Henry is the key to finding him" or "after the disappearance of his Lord he's become a desperate man who's as much an obstacle as an ally" or even "Sammy was defiant when he went into the Pit -- what will Henry find when he encounters him now?" or w/e -- simply insisting HES LIKE HE WAS IN CHAPTER TWO, THE ONE YOU GUYS LIKE instead of being able to think of a single character-based hint that we might find compelling is, tbh, rather un-reassuring!!!

My complaint about Twisted Alice’s role in BatDR was that ultimately, it felt like they were just trying to capture the vibes that Twisted Alice had in BatIM instead of really exploring what that character would be doing HERE, in THIS situation. Nothing she’s doing really makes sense, and what IS there seems to have forgotten what her actual deal is, but she’s doing it with the right flair, so it feels like she’s in-character enough for the scene to be fun. Like an episodic cartoon that just forgets what happened in previous episodes depending on who’s writing this one. So… I think that’s a real risk for Sammy. For the people who just want him to show up and whisper cult-ish things so we can hear his voice more and go HEHEHE ITS HIM, this isn’t really a concern lmao, that will probably happen. I don’t have high hopes that he’ll make sense as a character, but tbf I don’t know that he ever has.

And IDK, its still early, its possible the cage will come out and I'll look up spoilers and be like OMG NM I LOVE WHAT THEY DID WITH HIM. A game that's supposed to be psychological horror could, in theory, be a really fun place for Sammy!! Maybe the people actually writing him will give him more care, haha. It's a little silly for me to be so worked up about the marketing for a game that I am not going to buy b/c I’m still not interested in giving JDS, Inc. my money. AND YET DESPITE IT ALL I STILL… CARE ABOUT SAMMY LAWRENCE LMAO….. I think my main emotion about The Cage is just curiosity, though. I do want to know what they do with him. I’m curious if he’ll play a major part in the story, or if he’s like Henry or Porter in BatDR, with one big scene where he gets a bunch of lines and then runs off. A lot of people really want to see Henry and Sammy team up in this, but I’m not writing off the possibility he’s an antagonist of some kind, so I’m curious which way that’ll go. But I don’t feel like I have any strong expectations, so I guess we’ll see!

My love letter to qsmp and qsmpblr.

I saw other people doing this, so I might as well too!!!! I like the positivity of it all!!!

My story with qsmp is kind of a sad one, so sorry, but warning for the death of a loved one is mentioned in the second paragraph.

Originally, I was very excited about qsmp from the day it was announced. Quackity had been one of my favorite content creators for years at that point. Although, the day it started, I was on vacation with my mom and grandma for my little sibling's birthday. I didn't have time to watch day 1, so I just didn't get into it. I got updates through a friend of mine (Hi Warren!!!) meaning I had some idea of what was going on. Plus, I watched clips here and there. (Also, fun fact!!! I voted in the elections for Bad even though I didn't know what was going on!!)

Okay, here's the sad part. In early July of 2023, my grandfather on my mom's side died. It sucked. I was closer with him when I was little, so I didn't know what to feel. It hurts, I think. Everything about that situation sucked, from getting there to the mess that is my big ass family. Though on my last night there, I was thinking about the qsmp for whatever reason. I decided that I wanted to get into it there and then. I sat in the airport waiting to get on an airplane to go home watching qsmp compilations to get caught up. It was amazing. I felt better, just a bit.

I made my first post with the qsmp tag on July 13th, 2023, and y'all have been stuck with my ass ever since.

From what I’ve seen on SM, it’s a mix of comments like why she got waived when she’s the #3 all time NCAA scorer but Kate is still in (majority I’ve come across were like this). Hammon has always been about defense first and letting the offense come to you (which is what Kate’s mindset is, tbh). I’ve seen training camp videos where Fair was struggling with the defense schemes/rotations (I’ve seen bell struggle too, but that’s a different convo). Fair also looked lost when she came in the game, whereas Kate knew wtf was going on. It was evident during a pregame presser where Hammon was asked about Kate and Fair, and Hammon didn’t hesitate to say that Kate’s already a pro and is not worried about her, but didn’t say the same about Fair. I wasn’t really surprised Fair got waived because of how much Kate was brought up and how good she’s doing.

If people just watched the Indiana post game presser, Becky talked about Kate for like 2 mins and A’ja was agreeing with everything Hammon was saying. Hammon said her mind jumps off the charts, and that she’s a bball player, she’s earned the trust of the locker room and the coaches and that she’s a high value character.

I saw the IQ thing during the last game, in the beginning of the 4Q right after Kate scored her 2nd 3 of the game. SC wasn’t in the right spot and you can see Hammon yelling at her in the sidelines, and Kate moved her to the right spot. SC over commits and left Kate no choice but to cover the wing (that SC was supposed to go back to), and also haul ass down the baseline (which caused Hull to be open). After that sequence you can clearly see Hammon look at SC and yelling at her. I think some people dismiss the IQ comments Becky keeps saying about Kate. For her to pick up the schemes so quickly to the point where she’s telling a vet like SC where to go (who’s been with the team for like 2 yrs), that says a lot about Kate’s mind.

Hammon knows the team can score, but that it’s the defense that will win them games. I think they gave Fair time, but she wasn’t just picking up on it unfortunately.

I agree with pretty much everything you mention. I noticed becky has been really firm about why she's been giving kate minutes, and im glad that kate is showing it on the floor. On draft night Kate said something along the lines of "all I wanted was an opportunity, and now I have it" and Im glad she's really making use of that opportunity. really, really proud of her

Ooooh! Great question!

Well, honestly, I've been a bit back and forth about it--he's always given me major confidence trickster vibes, so the idea that he wouldn't....fluff up his credentials... seemed funny to me.

Prior to his tome release, I thought it would be interesting if he was more self-taught, especially since back in the day, it was a lot easier to get into journalism without strictly studying journalism. This isn't to say this is no longer the case, there ARE still situations where you can end up a journalist without going to journalism school... but generally the "best" way (if you have no network) is gonna be school. Anyways, his tome reveals he did take at least one anthropology related course in college, so I'm assuming he has at minimum a couple credits to his name. I like to think that he finished his degree, but the idea that he got wrapped up into the murdering and maybe didn't get to finish his degree is very fun too. Honestly picturing Danny at uni is such a trip because my general impression of colleges/universities is most of them tend to be very left/liberal-leaning and Danny's just a fucking centrist man... he's a bloody doomer getting into fights about how humanity is bad. He's literally the annoying guy in your seminars who takes the prof's entire attention and stalls the discussion just so he can have his own personal debate.

However, I like the idea that he didn't go to school strictly for journalism. I think part of the issue with his education is we don't know where it fell in relation to said patricide. It's not entirely unreasonable that his dad might have wanted Danny to get some university education and then enlist, it would look good in making him an officer, higher-ranking, stuff like that. If that's the case, Danny's credentials might be related to things that would be more useful to a theoretical future career in the military. For example, something like a BA in (military?) history with a minor in English. I'd honestly argue that his education is open season since his line of work as a journalist is one of those careers where as long as you can meet the technical skills required (writing, communication, research, etc.) it doesn't matter what you strictly studied since higher education at the university level generally already prepares you for that.

I have more thoughts so I might expand on this a bit later, but in the meantime I'd love to hear other people's thoughts on this topic as well.

it's a pet peeve of mine when ppl frame Andrew as hating Aaron and being needlessly cruel to him... bc while yes, their relationship is fractured and strained, Andrew genuinely cares about his brother and wants the best for him, he just doesn't know how to show that in a normal way.

like he might not know how to express it in a healthy manner but Andrew LOVES Aaron, like he truly just wants Aaron to be healthy and safe. It's like, his whole Thing. Aaron is one of the most important people in his life. Andrew wants him around. He'd do anything to protect him.

I guarantee Andrew wants to be emotionally close to Aaron too, he just doesn't have the tools to do that and the thought of letting someone in terrifies him. He also has no concept of what a healthy sibling relationship looks like, so he has no frame of reference to work from.
