What's your favorite cardverse fic?

The first fic that came to mind when I read this was an unfinished fic from fanfic.net that is, single-handedly, the reason I only read completed fics nowadays. I read this years ago when it was still regularly updating but a few new chapters were added in 2021 and so I need to read it again.

It’s called A King and His Hero by HiddenSunrise. From what I remember, the first few chapters were enough to get me hooked. It’s a USUK fic and the premise of the story is that Clubs has invaded Spades so Arthur uses his magic to get teleport him and Alfred out of the castle to save the King’s life. Alfred’s upset about being taken out of the fight and it then follows them making their way back to the castle and just overall a really interesting plot and good character depth as far as I remember. It’s been years since I’ve read this and writing this made me really want to read it againnn.

However, if it’s recommendations you want, it really depends on what you’re looking for because I have read a lot of cardverse fics:

I am like an encyclopaedia of vague fic plots hence why I bookmark everything because I always forget the names.

There are two cardverse fics that I have publicly recommended which are:

Exceptis Centum by PurrV. Which I think is the fic where Alfred gets magically transported to a room where Arthur. If it is, then I can’t say much about the plot without spoiling it but basically Spades has been without a Queen for a hundred years and I think Alfred gets teleported every night to Arthur’s room where they chat and Alfred tries to solve the mystery of what’s happening. It’s multichapter and there’s some mention of kind of dubious character later on but I don’t think they ever appear outside of the characters talking about them.

(I wish I had bookmarked my favourite fics with some note attached because I can’t remember exactly why I recommend this. Might’ve been for the writing, might’ve been for the plot or maybe it was just for the ending guess you’ll have to read it and find out lol.)

And The Sleeping Beauty of Spades by Pastaaddict. (I am now noticing that both of these fics have some fairytale elements…) Anyway, this is a oneshot where Arthur’s in a coma and they have to find a way to wake him up.

When AO3 is finished with maintenance I’ll add the links and maybe read them again or check my private bookmarks for other one’s that I remember at enjoying.

This is just me rambling about really needing to re-read my ao3 rec list lmao

These recommendations are killing me and AO3’s down right now so I can’t even reread them to see if past me treated my public rec’s with the pickiness it deserves. In all honestly, the description of these doesn’t intrigue me at all but I think that is probably why I recced them- because they’re better than I thought they’d be. Like keep in mind there’s 6 pages of bookmarks that aren’t in my rec list even if I have no idea why I recced these two lmao.

It just throws me off because my favourite type of Cardverse stories to read are multichapter fics where their mark has just appeared/they’re relationship is developing and ideally throw in pirate Arthur as well lol. I think some of my recommendations are good stories that I enjoyed reading but they just didn’t stick with me as well as others that I didn’t even rec (like one where Arthur saves Alfred, so Alfred uses Spades magic to rewind time to save Arthur only for the second fic to kill Arthur off. Like bro I haven’t read that fic in years and I still remember it with the same dismay.)

I finished reading Sailing by Orion’s Star (the first in the Constellation trilogy written by the amazingly talented @kcrabb88) this afternoon whilst sunbathing in Victoria Park. I can’t really put into words what that feeling was like- what the whole experience of physically holding this book that I vividly remember coming to life as a fic on fanfic.net and AO3 and coming to the end of part 1. Reading SBOS has felt like I’ve been greeted by an old friend who I haven’t seen for a few years and it’s been a delight to see how the characters and the narrative have grown richer and deeper over the last few years of revisions.

On a more personal level, reading SBOS this week has grounded me in my move to London. I start my first post MSc graduation job with the Ministry of Justice next week as an e-Services Assistant Librarian and so to have this book with me, these characters, who I know and love, walking beside me, has been an incredible source of comfort and stability as I’ve started walking along this unknown path. It’s been such a privilege to see these stories grow and develop and to be a part of their creation (however small) in some way and I can’t wait to see where the next 2 books take our heroes!

I finish them less often than other fics, but yes, absolutely.

Not in a long, long time. Back in my fanfic.net days I got one comment on a fic telling me that I ruined their birthday by posting it, which was kind of random, but that was years and years ago.

Definitely not.

None that I'm aware of!

11. have you ever had a fic translated?

Not yet, but someone has asked permission to translate one of my Timeless fics into Russian. :o

I’ve done bits of cowriting, but I don’t think I’ve ever been part of a cowriting project that actually finished a project (largely my fault, tbh; my interest bounces a lot). I think the most successful was @heytheredeann and I cowriting a series by just. Posting fics as inspiration struck us.

13. what’s your all-time favorite ship?

For now I’ll stick to Garcia Flynn/Lucy Preston, though Emotional Compass is creeping up on them.

14. what’s a wip that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

The Megaverse.

TECHNICALLY I made a Peanuts’ comic when I was just a little kid, but the first Official Fandom (IE once I knew what fandom/fanfic was) was The Mentalist.

Possibly “Forgotten,” just because I’m so excited about actually finishing a longer fic. But as far as ones I actually go back and reread often....

Wait, I just remembered that “Tales of Chronospheres and Time” exists, and now I know for sure; THAT is my favorite fic I’ve ever written.

I NEED HELP FINDING A FANFIC!!!

GUYYSSSS!!!! Ok I need help finding a fanfic it's a old one! Pretty much it is about how Legolas always loved Aragorn and he ended up getting pregnant with his baby, but Aragorn still marries Arwen and I think Legolas disappears and hides and the fact that he had a baby. One of these three guys boromir faramir Éomer (I can't remember who it was ) One of them finds Legolas and his kid and Legolas ends up staying with him and he ends up claiming the child as his own and him and Legolas fall in love. I also think that Legolas father didn't know where he was and im not 100% sure that Aragorn knew about Legolas having a child all I know is he disappears and no one knew where he was. Also treebeard is in it because they hide in the forest near him idk

Note: I am unsure if "fic" here indicates fanfic or also includes original fic, but I assumed fanfic for some reason? Meh, most of what I write is fanfiction anyways.

Also, this got really long....

How many works do you have on AO3?

So, I don't really have many fics posted on Ao3. I have like. Three, I think? I'm working on moving them over! I just only want the Rewritten Better Versions on Ao3.

Update: It's 4! I forgot I put the Ruby Gloom fic up there hoping someone would adopt it.

What is your total AO3 word count?

...How does one find that out without manually adding the numbers up....????

What fandoms do you write for?

Actively: Teen Titans and Pokemon! I also started a Ruby Gloom fic and almost-entirely-outlined but never-fully-wrote a Steven Universe fanfic. (Well, I did finish the Ocean Gem scene from Lapis's POV. Does that count?)

As far as RPing (you did only say "write for", after all!): - Teen Titans (Dove's main verse, which is part 00's show and part 80's comics) - Steven Universe (my Lapis blog was kinda active for awhile and though my Blue Diamond blog never saw any actual roleplaying, I did write a lot of headcanons!) - Yu-Gi-Oh! (Ryou Bakura, like Blue, was never roleplayed except once on rabb.it but I wrote scattered heacanons) - DCAMU (Raven, of course! Would love to get some actual rps going with her again. But alas. The Horrors.)

What are your top five fics by kudos?

So, kudos is specific to Ao3, and I don't have a lot there. Apparently, uhh.... the only fic that has any kudos at all is the 14 on Unforeseen and Unforesaken.

....I was going to say "But on fanfic.net..." Except fanfic.net doesn't have a comparable feature. {lD;;

Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I really should! I just. Keep forgetting to check my email. I would, given the time and attention spoons and a computer that actually stays connected to the internet for longer than 15 minutes at a time...

What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

It's not done yet. But it's going to be the final chapter of DDD. Dove literally asks, "I killed five people. Do I deserve to die?" It's... going to be Intense and come with a few content warnings because it's HEAVY.

What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

So far? Uhhhh........ I mean, A work of Magic (Pokemon fic) is pretty upbeat so far. The story basically BEGINS with Jess wanting to raise a Misdreavus and Mismagius (and finding them); Murky hating his flock (and he's with a trainer now so he's away from them); Missie being abandoned (but then found by a trainer who loves her!); and Mistress's arc is in the works (ha) but it's already begun (she's mad about her species being hated for their reputation but Jess doesn't care about that). It's going to be ALL happy endings.

I think, in the published stories, it might be between Mystery Sickness (Raven heals from the titular sickness and everyone's happy!) or Missing: Raven (wherein the titular missing Raven returns and everyone's happy!). In my unpublished fics though... Fire and Flight is going to end with Dove and Srentha getting married, and that's a really blissful scene for them, of course. This is hard actually because I don't like NOT-happy endings! They mostly all do except the ones that have direct sequels (DDD and Something Special).

Do you get hate on your fic?

Oh my stars, I USED to! Dove's core concept - "Raven's sister" - made SO many people mad! Keep in mind, I started sharing my stories in 2005 or 2006. Writing a character that fit arbitrary criteria that everyone else except me somehow knew was a !!SIN!!. (Two exclamation points for Mercymorn vibes are, in this case, intentional.)

One of the first things I shared was Dove's character bio. And people almost always said things like "She's a Mary Sue!" Simply because she was related to Raven. Or "She has too many powers!" (And Raven canonically has a new power like every 3 issues in the comics; what's your point?) People also said I wasn't allowed to make Dove like J-Pop because I also liked J-pop. Which is. Like. ??? H u h ? ? ? ???

It didn't make sense to me then and it doesn't make sense to me now.

I don't think I've gotten any hate in the past 10 years or so, though. Though I personally consider it equivalent to hate when someone goes to my Teen Titans stories and, in a review on that Teen Titans fanfic, without commenting on anything whatsoever regarding the content of the Teen Titans story, asks me to update the Ruby Gloom fic.

Fuck off.

(I got Really Painfully Disappointed when I saw that email that someone reviewed DDD! The first review on that story in YEARS! A story I've poured my heart and soul [and a little bit of my own mindscape experience] into creating! Only for it to be someone begging--on the WRONG DAMN STORY-- for me to update something I already explicitly said I was no longer writing.)

Do you write smut?

Not really. Not often. Not well. I mostly just have outlines. And there are like. Five scenes outlined. Brief scenes. (99.5% of the time, I don't care about smut at all. It's just not fun for me unless I am REALLY in EXACTLY the right mood to have fun with it.)

Do you write crossovers?

I did once! Unfortunately that was the only time I ever felt shame, because I thought it was Too Self-Indulgent and for some reason decided it was silly. Pokemon and Teen Titans. Dove gets a transportation spell wrong and ends up in the Pokemon world, and accidentally catches a Misdreavus. (Because what else would I write about in the Pokemon world? XD) I had this really fun idea about the ghost getting stuck in Raven's mindscape and Dove has to go in there to retrieve it. But I simply didn't have any idea where the story was going and lost interest. It's the only story I've ever deleted, and I regret it so much. I lost the flashdrive that had the original file on it and all the notes for that scene, too. u.u

Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not to my knowledge. Although, let's be real, the idea that "Raven has a sister named Dove" is Very Far from Unique. Stories like that were all over 2000's fanfic.net. (I named my Dove independently and refuse to change it. It Has MEANING for mine, okay!)

Have you ever had a fic translated?

Have you ever co-written a fic?

Most of the process! Sort of. A Work of Magic (my ACTUAL Pokemon fanfiction) is going to involve my best friend's trainer character as my trainer character's traveling companion! Eventually. Assuming I ever publish enough of the story to solidify Jess's team first....

That's also assuming rping doesn't count, by the way. I assume you mean fic as in "fanfiction specifically". But if RPs count, I have co-authored a GREAT many fics! In fact the first 5ish years I was roleplaying, it was in a chatroom specifically for Teen Titans OCs!

What's your all-time favorite ship?

This may be cheating, but my VERY FAVORITE ship is actually my OCxOC ship, Dove and Srentha! Secretshipping! My babies. The first romantic interest/couple I ever actually cared about.

If it HAAAAS to be a ship of characters within the realm of canon... JeriRae is probably the one. Though Lapidot was a contender for awhile.

I also really liked the OCxRaven ship in my favorite Teen Titans fanfiction... before I reread it at an age where I realized it's Weird to ship a 25 year old man with a character that the story states "hasn't even reached her sixteenth birthday". Their dynamic would be REALLY exciting if it wasn't a little creepy.

What's the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

Honestly? All the smut scenes. I write at such an agonizingly slow pace as it is, but when I'm not actually In the Mood For Smutty Things, I'm actually mildly s*x-repulsed and when I'm not repulsed, I am simply Disinterested, and I'm not going to write it if it's Not Interesting.

What are your writing strengths?

Characterization so every character feels unique and alive! Maybe dialogue, as a subset of characterization and also sounding Pretty Natural? Using descriptive words that paint vivid pictures and echo vivid sounds and evoke powerful emotions! I've gotten my writing to a place where it generally flows very well, syntax-wise. Immersive descriptions of sensory experiences (especially tactile and auditory). Being able to get into the character's head and write the scene As They See It without using first-person. Character growth and developement is a Big Thing. I'm also learning to write better metaphors! (Still learning quite the right places to wield them, but I used to use a ton of hyperbole and modifiers that kinda killed the mood. I'm getting WAY better at them now though!)

Also, fic-specific: Hella headcanons! Especially for something I'm really interested in, like Azarath or how Raven's powers work. My analytical mind combined with the joy and perpetuity of hyperfixation means I analyze a LOT of little details in canon.

I can take a line that only briefly mentions a "magistrate of food production" and extrapolate an Entire Aspect of Society. (They have people in charge of food production! It's an organized aspect of society! It's HIERARCHICAL. "Magistrate" means he's judging things; he's not the only one calling the shots! It's PRODUCTION, which means it's not all foraged! They have a whole system for it; it's REGULATED! And I'm just now, at this very moment, thinking "holy shit, what did they do when the magistrate of food production fucking PERISHED"... not like that was the most important part of that scene. But. I never considered that before. Food is pretty important. I actually need to gnaw on this for awhile.)

What are your writing weaknesses?

Humor and fight scenes. Also fluff and smut, but I don't really enjoy writing those. There may be Occasional Fluff, especially in secretshipping scenes with Dove and Srentha, and usually it comes out pretty sweet, but it's always wrapped in Actual Story. And smut just. Doesn't really have any place in my writing. I've outlined a few things, "fully written" one singular lime scene. (It might eventually someday possibly conceivably become more than a lime. Maybe.)

But humor? I absolutely suck at that. My Pokemon fanfic has some humor elements, and sometimes the character narrating the scene via limited third person or omniscient makes a dry comment, and I appreciate dry humor. But humor just isn't... something I gravitate towards naturally. And when I do, it's dry and subtle and understated.

I tried to write a funny moment into DDD where Dove tries doing laundry with her powers, they go out of control, she gets the clothes mixed up and because Dove isn't from Earth and didn't know they have to stay separate in the washer, the whites and colors get mixed, and so Beast Boy laments his clothes turning pink. The scene ends with Beast Boy teasing her and saying he'll just get revenge, and Robin says, "So everyone except Dove: Watch for trip wires." It feels SO out of place in DDD. (You know: The story where murders happen and Dove has a breakdown.) I was going for "Break the dramatic tension with humor". You know. Comic relief. I'm not sure how well it worked.

And fight scenes? I can imagine Some Things Happening, but it's always in brief snatches of moments. I can't follow the flow of a fight in my head. I mostly describe it in snapshots, because I don't enjoy fights much. I don't enjoy physical training or sports or martial arts or war stories. I even zone out during Teen Titans (My #1 Hyperfixation) episodes when they're fighting. I don't enjoy writing them and I don't enjoy content of them, so I kind of just. Can't even figure out how they work. Solution: Slap a few serviceable moments together and call it a day. It's not a skill I intend to polish beyond "just get it over with so I can get to the COOL part". Cool, subjectively, being the part AFTER the fight.

I will say that I GREATLY enjoyed both the process of writing and somewhat enjoyed the result of the DDD climax battle! Chapter 20, the largely-abstract battle between Raven and Dove in Dove's mindscape. I absolutely LOVED playing around with how an empath and a telepath would wage war when they're LITERALLY INSIDE SOMEONE'S MIND! I didn't have to coordinate hits and weapons in my head; it was all abstract, emotional, redirection stuff that DOES capture my imagination!

But how often am I ever going to write an empath and a telepath fighting in a mindscape? It's the only battle scene I've ever written that I'm actually HAPPY with. (....event-wise, anyways. Not at all happy with the rhythm/prose/style. I like What Happens in the battle, not How It's Written. But the thing about not enjoying, and thus not practicing, a thing is that I'm not going to be good at it even when I really want to be.)

Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

I kinda do that already! Though most of it is in a conlang... Not sure if that counts. (I don't think I've published it anywhere. But if you've ever seen the scene I posted on dA that ends in "May your spirit soar free"? I hadn't done it at the time, but I now know how that's written: Phiareh se-o a'erentha.) Names come into play for character!Zira, particularly Ciraen and Zirane, and Leyla and Dove both have "affectionate" names used to denote especially deep fondness and significance. I don't think I've ever written an entire CONVERSATION in another language though.

Oh, and I intersperse Rorek's dialog with Latin at the beginning of that story because I'm a dork for Latin and he's supposed to have been ripped from the past and is ~magically~ learning English. It's a transition.

Anyways, I think it's fine but I think people should try to find a beta who knows the language.

First fandom you wrote for?

Does "inventing a Yu-Gi-Oh! card" count as writing? Because if so, probably that. If not: Does imagining a species count as writing? Then Pokemon or Yoshi (both of Nintendo fame). As far as actually fully writing out the stories in words with the intent for them to be read as a narrative: that's 100% Teen Titans.

Favorite fic you've ever written?

What is my favorite star in the sky? My favorite leaf on a tree? Which tidal wave is the moon's favorite? By the gods, I can't pick just ONE. I love them all for the whole tapestry they weave, and my Current Favorite changes by the day. The most statistically common "Favorites" tend to be:

- Dove's Dark Discovery (because writing the mindscape scenes was SO DAMN FUN!) - The Final Journey (I'm writing about Azar and that's very important to me for private Nexus reasons, but it's also important to DOVE! Oh great gods, define "writing"! I was playing out stories with my PowerPuff plush figure things at like age 5. I made up characters and species for Pokemon and Yoshi when I was that age, possibly even younger! And I made up Dove at a VERY young age, considering I'm still writing about her at age 30: I must have been 10 or 11! I came up with her Core Concept veeeery shortly after getting into Teen Titans. I specifically remember playing pretend when Teen Titans was still airing; my oldest sister was playing Terra and I was playing Dove. We were playing toys with a spare Raven Bandai figure being Raven's sister named Dove (something about time travel and crossing a river in a boat made of legos?) the night Spellbound aired. That was... (checks internet) October of 2004!

And the oldest writings I have dated-- as in, writings when I actually wrote down the date I put the words on paper-- are Dove stories from 2005. But I know I was writing the stories down on paper about a year before I actually started writing the dates down. So at the VERY latest, I started "writing" fics in 2005.

MEET ENGINEER, LINK FROM SPIRIT TRACKS~

After months and months of lazing around, I finally got to move my a** off and added Spirit Tracks in my version of Linked Universe AU lol

Unfortunately, the story that I made for him focused more on Wind. In fact, Engineer’s inclusion is a very last minute thing. So, I didn’t delve into his character too deep. You can read it here, btw: Ao3 | Fanfic.net

(Also, designing his clothes makes me realize Beat’s outfit is kinda…bare. Somehow. Maybe I’ll redesign him one day. You know, give his tunic at least a split on each sides of it, like the usual Links clothes in Linked Universe. Cadence’s outfit in her original game looked like that too, so I’m not veering too far from ‘canon’ `3`)

Anyway, Engineer characteristics are:

* Stoic. Snarky. Lazy.

* Very low in stamina. In my story, wielding a Lokomo Sword sapped his energy bit by bit, even when he doesn’t use it. That’s why he sleep most of the time #ForeverTired

* Fighting style. He’s mostly trying to dodge and redirect the enemies’ attacks back at them (using their momentum). It conserved his energy, more so than blocking or swinging his weapon using his own strength

* He’s Wind’s successor. But he’s older than him. I mean…the guy have a job, so he’s definitely a young man, at least

* He’s lazy yet a workaholic. He rather have a triweekly shift than having to embark on another journey (why workaholic? Well, the first thing we saw when we booted up the game was Link sleeping through the tale Nico had told but looks especially enthusiastic when Zelda appointed him as a Royal Engineer)

* Because of his low stamina, the other Links let him ride on Epona’s back almost the entire time of their adventure. (”See? You guys don’t need me here. Tell Hylia that I’m just a baggage“, “Don’t try to guilt-tripped us. You just want to ride your train around”, “Tch. Busted”, “Besides, can’t really stop the portal from force-teleporting you into our circle”, “Ugh, I want to retire, dammit”)

* (Yeah. I’m using the ‘force teleportation’ theme in most of my LU fics. Fight me)

* Ironically, Engineer do love Monday. Don’t judge him by his sour face, alright? He was born with it (lol)

* Unless the map is updated using a technology only existed in his own world, he cannot use the built-in map when in the other Links’ eras

*This is a secret. But the reason why he agreed to help Zelda saved the world is because HIS JOB IS IN DANGER HERE, OKAY? NO WORLD, NO MORE TRAIN TO RIDE. And that’s a no no >:(

* Kidding. It’s not a secret. Zelda definitely knew.

* Last but not least, why the heck did I give him a red scarf? There’s no scarf in his uniform, oi. But I already wrote it in my fic and I’m too lazy to fix it, so there. Red scarf for Engineer :’D

And once again it is 3:42am and I’m on the fanfic hunt again (why the frick did my past self never save these damn fics, god sake?!)!!!

So this time I’m hunting for a Miraculous Ladybug fic. Here’s what I remember;

- Characters are aged up

- Takes place after defeating hawkmoth

- In the final fight with Hawkmoth Chat Noir got very badly injured

- After the fight they couldn’t become Chat Noir and Ladybug anymore

- They never got to find each others identities so now they can’t find each other

- Think the fic starts with adult Adrien drunk af

- Marinette is like working for/with him or something like that (kinda reminded me of Natalie’s job?)

- Finds him drunk but is used to this behaviour now so casually takes him back to his flat

- Stuff happens that I can’t remember

- At some point Marinette can see scars on Adrien’s back and makes a 9000+ IQ check that they look like all the battle injuries Chat Noir has gotten

- Reveal to each other ensures

- There is much crying

Hey Ray, I wanted to ask your advice if that’s okay (long story, sorry). I started rewatching a show yesterday (Shadowhunters, very entertainingly terrible if you’ve never seen it), and immediately got a hankering to reread an absolutely hilarious and emotionally gripping Shadowhunters fanfic that I’m subscribed to, which hadn’t been updated in years but that I’ve reread quite a few times (OFC twin insert, called “Shadowhunters: The Ever Chroncles”, the author was NoapologiesNoexcusesNoregrets, on both ao3 and fanfic.net). Their works are some of my favourite fanfics, and I remember laughing out loud so often while reading them.

I found the old update emails in my inbox, but discovered that the author not only deleted this fic but apparently their entire profile with all their other work. It kinda upset me, and I tried to see if maybe they had moved to a different website, but if so they are using a different username. I remembered the author deleting and reuploading some stuff before because they weren’t happy with it but people had asked them to put it back up, and I guess I should’ve downloaded the fic while I still could. I managed to find some chapters using the wayback machine on archive.org, and some more google searches led me to a DeviantArt account that posted the first chapter of the author’s twilight fic (that I also read and was still subscribed to) back in 2015.

I am considering trying to reach out to that account to see if they are the same author and if so, why they deleted their works and if they are available anywhere else, but I’m honestly still reeling from it being deleted. I’m also not even sure if it is the right person/they are still active on DeviantArt considering I can’t find the author anywhere else anymore. And if it is the right person, I don’t want to bother them if they deleted everything because of a negative experience or remind them of bad feelings or anything, since they must have had a reason to actually delete everything instead of just leaving it up but not updating anymore if they lost interest…

Do you know of anyone who might know why everything was deleted (if I remember right, they wrote in Twilight, Shadowhunters, HP, Doctor Who, and Supernatural fandoms)? As a fanfic author, would you be bothered by someone contacting you about deleted works? I’d really appreciate any advice!

I'll put it out there to see if anyone knows them.

Depending on the tone of the message it wouldn't really bother me but that's not a universal opinion.

Best advice would be to just be exceedingly polite and non-pressuring if you do reach out. I don't really see the harm in trying as long as you respect whatever response they give you.

Michael then, instead, tries to fix the family

Michael convinces his little brothers (Balthazar, Castiel, Gabriel, and a reluctant Raphael) to help. (Raphael and Gabriel towards the end cuz FUCK they are mentally not ok)

I ship Destiel and Madam SO MUCH but MichaelxDean in the fic just… fits (also Adam is a minor in the fics so…)

Michael and Bobby are besties fuck you

Lucifer has a mental down bc angst

Sam, the entire time, is just kinda like “I have no idea why, or how, my brother is dating something possessing his body, but I support him.”

Gabriel yells at Michael when he first asks Gabriel to join (like SCREAMING at him. It’s gonna end with hella tears and maybe a ‘fuck you’ before Gabriel runs off for a couple of chaps.)

Cause I remember reading Wattpad and fanfic.net where every fucking time I read anything the author would say some disclaimer shit like:

(In all honesty I avoid that stuff as much as possible. So I've managed to absorb little knowledge. I automatically hide my face in cringe. That's my opinion. To those who enjoy it, have fun with you're thing.)

Okay *cracks knuckles & promptly wince in pain* tumblr post+. I'm not surprised tumblr is trying this since every platform sees someone else succeed and immediately tries to replicate it badly. While other platforms can slide by for the most part, tumblr is asking for TROUBLE.

This site already is held together by paper clips, duct tape, and string. DON'T trust them with your money. Absolutely not. Creators SHOULD opt into tip jars & commissions for their work, but there are way better methods like ko-fi and patreon. I'm sure there are even better methods. Creating is hard work. Value it. Or keep doing it for fun. You don't have to charge.

I'm extremely worried for creators especially the younger ones that may not know why fandom spaces work the way they do. I remember being on fanfic.net in like 2008. Warnings are slapped all over everything: I don't own these characters. I don't claim to. And those warnings MATTERED. The fight to create and publicly share those creations has been an long battle. I'm still amazed by the victories of ao3 being a legal shield and kindle worlds. (Not that I want to praise amazon in any way. But the idea of set worlds you CAN legally do that for. That baffles my mind). Fanworks are protected by such a fine line: don't make money off of someone else's IP. Which, yeah, that's understandable. We have to protect the line and strengthen it, not kick dents. I worry about this tumblr + announcement giving a go ahead for making money on fanworks. I doubt they've actually done the reading. I doubt they're willing to protect anyone here. THEY WON'T GET RID OF THEIR BOT PROBLEMS & NATZIS. So I doubt tumblr will protect the little creator. I don't doubt, I KNOW.

I think some creators of purely original work might benefit, but I'd worry GREATLY for their private information and bank account access. I think handing my wallet to a stranger on the street is safer odds. There are way better sites. PLEASE USE THEM. Keep to the old ways on this one and just link people to your ko-fi, patreon,ect.

Do I think this is the end of tumblr? Absolutely not. I've been here since like Jan/Feb 2012. I've seen a lot of : THIS WILL KILL TUMBLR FOREVER. IT'S OVER. It's never over. Just like spn. We're all stuck here. The world keeps spinning. Somehow.

That's my honest opinion. I'm sorry I feel like my brain darted a million directions while typing this. (My mum also kept asking me a zillion questions about her TV show I'm not watching so if my train of thought derailed mid sentence that's why). I still can't believe tumblr is pulling this nonsense. I often do, yes! I sometimes forget, but I’d say it’s probably a 70% response rate, when I’m able. I love love love hearing what people liked, and I want them to know how much I appreciate them taking the time to comment. Plus, I’ve made several close friends because I responded to their comment, so there’s that!

6) what’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

Hmm good question! The ones that come to mind are May History Remember Us, my 2020 Barricade Day Fic where I was uh, having some feelings, By Force of Friendship, my 2017 Barricade Day fic which is each Amis’ death through Enjolras’ eyes, and then Echoing a Song, my two-part Les Mis Hadestown AU, which has hope at the end for sure, but something near the end is really angsty.

7) do you write crossovers? if so what is the craziest one you’ve written?

It’s not a crossover exactly, it’s more Les Mis but with worldbuilding elements of Hadestown, but Echoing a Song sort of fits. The most crossover crossover I ever wrote was a House MD/Criminal Minds crossover, back in the day.

8) have you ever received hate on a fic?

I got one or two mean comments on Sailing by Orion’s Star when it was on Ao3, but otherwise not really? Not since I was a young teen getting the occasional flame for being a new writer, not unlike plenty of others in the early 2000s!

9) do you write smut? if so what kind?

The only time I’ve written any smut, and it would definitely qualify as light, kind of artful smut was for a few scenes in She Was Bound to Love You and When She Heard You Sing, my lesbian girl Raoul and bisexual Christine series. There’s more in the latter fic, as I got comfortable writing love scenes.

10) have you ever had a fic stolen?

Don’t think so!

11) have you ever had a fic translated?

Yes, one of my Les Mis ones. Ahhh I can’t remember which one though.

12) have you ever co-written a fic before?

Not officially, but I’ve had friends who were either betaing for me or who I talked to in-depth about a fic that probably deserve a co-writing credit!

Romantic ship is Raoul/Christine, platonic is Enjolras & Combeferre & Courfeyrac. Also Les Mis Wise I do dabble in romantic Poetry Smash, because they are, frankly, irresistible.

14) what’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

I don’t have any unfinished fics on Ao3, but I do have one on fanfic.net in House fandom that I wish I had finished! I won’t, but it was a good fic.

15) what are your writing strengths?

I think characterization, for sure. I’ve also been told my descriptions and such have a cinematic quality, which I like!

God, blocking. Not in action scenes, but in simple scenes in a room full of people. Also I think voice, sometimes? I do that thing a lot where I say something like “Character A saw/heard/felt” when I should just be direct rather than using the modifier. Also slipping tenses.

I sometimes have little bits and pieces of dialogue in other languages.

Rurouni Kenshin. Oh man, good times.

19) what’s your favourite fic you’ve written?

I may have turned it into books and made lots of changes, but, the OG fic of Sailing by Orion’s Star. Writing Les Hommes de la Misericorde was where I really started to come into myself, and it showed in that original SBOS fic. Plus like, the fic version of it taught me that I could turn it into an original work, and just the sheer joy I felt while working on that initial version was immense.
