Okay so the thing that was making me too busy to write or draw has ended! I'm editing my Aloy x Erend one-shot again! Because of that! here's a sneak peak to my first draft of the flashback of Erend’s marriage proposal to Aloy!

Erend proposes to Aloy!

Author's Note: This takes place at least 3 years after HZD, whatever events of HFW have already taken place, and Aloy now lives mostly in Meridian. Erend has a focus now as we saw he had one in the first HFW trailer.

ALSO this is literally from my barely edited first draft! There will be grammar errors! And still contains some [Insert stuff here] notes!

The final draft will definitely look and read differently! Please understand this does not reflect on my final draft writing quality!

This is also my first big Tumblr post with a fic so if it's formatted weird please forgive me (^▽^;)

Aloy thought back to Erend’s proposal.

Talanah had dragged her out of town for a Lodge Hunt, which ended with Aloy drenched in blaze. Instead of just rinsing off in a nearby lake, Talanah had insisted they visit a local bathhouse.

As repayment for her getting drenched, Talanah had helped Aloy re-plait her braids and even gifted her some Carja Silks to wear home as her armor was still drenched and in desperate need of repair. Aloy had fought it every step of the way, but in the end, she was glad she had gone along with Talanah’s plan.

She returned to her house later than she wished, the sun already beginning to set beyond the Forbidden West. On approach to her home, she noticed the door open a crack, which was unusual as Erend had made her an Oseram lock. She activated her Focus, expecting an intruder, instead, it was just Erend, which wasn’t uncommon these days as they spent most of their evenings together, the uncommon part was his pacing.

She pinged his Focus and she watched as his form whipped around to her direction as he received her signal with his Focus.

The first thing she noticed as she entered her apartment was that he had pulled her meal table away from the wall to the center of the room, and on it sat all of Aloy’s favorite Carja and Oseram foods as well as a few traditional Nora foods, where he had gotten those she had no idea.

“Aloy!”, he said on seeing her, his face lighting up into a huge grin. He was missing his traditional armor and was instead in just his Vanguard tunic and trousers. “You’re back! I was wondering if Talanah would ever bring you all back.” He laughed nervously, lifting his arm and rubbing the back of his neck nervously. “Well, now that you’re here, would you like to have dinner together?”

They’d spent the evening eating and talking. She learned that he had been the one to make the traditional Nora food. He told her that now that the Nora were free to leave their Sacred land and return as they wished, some had been visiting Meridian to visit the memorial. Erend told her of how he had noticed them on his rounds. When he mentioned to a few that he had wanted to surprise her with some traditional food, many had volunteered to help him please their Anointed.

She had grimaced at the mention of her Nora title, and Erend had noticed, she was grateful when he stood and pulled her out of her thoughts and seat to take a walk around the city. As they walked they reminisced of their many adventures. They spoke of their travels to the ruins of the Metal World, their journey out to the Cut as well as the Forbidden West, and the final defeat of Hades and Silens. As well as Aloy’s continuous work at Gaia Prime. Erend also spoke fondly of their more calm adventures, the times they had traveled out to a Vantage point simply to watch the sunset or stayed in Free Heap to get away from the busyness of Meridian.

As they were laughing at the memory of the first time Erend had ridden a strider, Erend had stopped to admire the view, he put his hands on the railing, staring out into the distance, still smiling but distractedly. Aloy realized they were on the middle of the bridge to the Palace; she hadn’t even noticed as this was a common path they took whenever she joined Erend on his rounds of the city. Out in the West, the final rays of sunlight could no longer be seen peeking from behind the mountains, above them, the moon was already high in the sky, its full-faced light shining down on them.

“Aloy, we’ve had so many fun times together, I know I’ve definitely gotten my two minutes”, he said referencing her words after they had fought Dervahl, “and while I don’t know Nora customs all too well, this isn’t really Oseram traditional either, I was hoping it would be alright if I ask for more of your time” before she could ask what he meant, he held her hands in his and continued, “These last few years together have been amazing! Sure, we’ve both had our fair share of struggles, both ups, and downs, but it’s been us, side-by-side against whatever the world has thrown at us, and I was hoping that it could always be this way. If I’ve learned anything from our time together, I know it’s you I want to spend my life with. So,” he got down on one knee, leaving Aloy speechless, “Aloy Rostdaughter, will you do me the greatest honor and be my wife?”

[They kiss]

Ardbert

First impression

For a moment I thought SE pulled an Inception on us but putting the WoL from the trailers and throwing him into HW. An antihero that is being tricked by the Ascians, I almost pity him and his party. Their introduction scenes is probably one of the best imo. I never gave him too much thought because I figured that the Ascians had only played with them as pawns in their schemes. ( *´罒`* )

Impression now

I can see why he’s our shard on the First. No matter how many times he gets beaten down, he stands up and tries again. He tries over and over until he prevails. Much like we do as players. While in game, the characters sort of see it as if we go into battle without ever failing, we know that’s not true. We fail at each and every new content, paving the path for those who come after us.

I’m probably looking into it, but something about Arbert’s presence is assuring.

Favorite moment

There is so many moments in ShB that I can pick from. Almost every moment with Arbert made me happy, all the way up to end when he is encouraging us to take another step. I think the best moment out of all of them would have to be when he is comforting and assuring us even as we slowly succumb to the LIght. I hate that it go interrupted by Feo Ul, but for a moment it felt like the WoL could breath despite the mess. ଘ(੭ˊ꒳ˋ)੭✧

Idea for a story

I want to write about Arbert following a crafting/gathering WoL around. He doesn’t come off too much like someone who can do such things, but I imagine that he would be fascinated by it. Maybe it would also be kinda funny to watch him panic as we walk around near dangerous wild life looking for some rare plants.

Unpopular opinion

As icon as it is that we sent Arbert’s Axe through Hades, I really wish that we had wield it differently. You think that since Arbert had merged with us, our characters would at least get a bit of the experience that he had weilding the aze for so long. Throwing it the way we did just feels strange, like we’re trying to throw a lance???

Favorite relationship

Most likely his relationship with the Lamitt. It’s clear that they partnered up before anyone else, seeing as she did save him from dying so quickly when he started out adventuring. I want to see how their relationship bloomed, when and how she fell in love with him, the kind of sacrifices that made for each other. The end of the healer role quest and the following msq is heart wrenching. If only she had the time to tell him how she truly feels.

Favorite headcanon

He’s an animal lover, and to make it better the animals love him back! Arbert seems to be unendingly kind and caring to everyone. Animals, both wild and domesticated can sense that within him and they have a natural tendency to gravitate towards him.

So you re-blogged a post with Peter and the caption 'Rotten To The Core' and now all I can think of is a Descendants AU where the Hales banished all the 'Villains' from BH Isle. And years later Princess Laura decides to 'Save' four children from the Lost. And while Scott, Villain McCall's son is poster perfect for the 'rehabilitation' (aka Cute, Naive, Gullible to Propaganda) the Queen's resented brother Peter is far more concerned with clever, cunning Stiles whose resentment is deeply hidden.

But fuck I could get behind this plunny. I can’t say I follow Descendants that closely but I do know the general plotline, and I would def love an AU of it for Steter. And nobody talks about it but back on the Isle, Stiles would be the one who has blackmail on everyone, secrets he uses against those who cross him, and debts owed to him by people who needed favours from him. He wouldn’t outright rule the Isle - how tedious - but even the VKs at the top of the Isle hiearchy know better than to go against him. It’s usually fine; they leave him to his own devices, and Stiles isn’t often interested in the power struggles between the other kids.

There’s a lot of laughter when word gets around that Stiles has been chosen as one of the four VKs picked for rehab. Money and personal trinkets are waved around as they all start betting on everything from how many AKs will be reduced to tears by the end of Stiles’ first day, to how long it’ll be before the palace goes up in flames.

But Stiles? Stiles… doesn’t mind this turn of events. The Isle was getting boring anyway. If the heroes are going to voluntarily let him out into the rest of Auradon, they’ll only have themselves to blame when things get a bit… chaotic.

Misc Notes:

1) Who would be Stiles’ villain parent? I kind of want to say Hades yes, because of all the Descendants 3 trailers, but also he was my fav character in Hercules, Stiles could def get his penchant for trickery there. Not necessarily evil but self-serving and sarcastic with a love of plots and pandemonium.

But Maleficent could work too if we’re doing direct parallels to the series. She was considered the most dangerous and evil villain parent I think? Could be interesting to see a Stiles who avoids his overbearing mother who’s still trying to relive her glory days and plotting revenge and only sees Stiles as a means to an end, especially after he’s picked to go to Auradon Prep.

2) So then, Erica is definitely the daughter of the Evil Queen in Snow White. Because:

3) Scott gets to be Cruella De Vil’s kid obviously. He’s terrified of her and hates the way she treats dogs.

4) Boyd gets to be an AK. Which AK, idk. Erica tries everything to get on his nerves the first few weeks after she gets stuck with him as her “guide” at the school but Boyd just takes everything in stride. He also doesn’t put up with any AKs who try to give Erica grief. He thinks she’s not so bad once you’re allowed past her armour.

5) Allison’s the fourth VK. She’s Jafar’s kid. Street-smart and theft-savvy. Don’t pick a fight with her.

6) Obviously, as the winner of the most cliche match ever, Lydia is the daughter of Ariel. I kind of want to make her the daughter of Aladdin and Jasmine just for the Allydia drama but Ariel’s too good to pass up.

7) Lmao does this make Talia Belle? The Beast might fit her more. Peter’s her brother who was afflicted with a portion of the same curse just because they share the same blood, and on one hand, his curse doesn’t have a time limit, but unlike Talia, he never found someone to love him so he’s still cursed, and after so many years, he doesn’t even care anymore, even if the fact that he’s always part-wolf-beast is a large reason why most people avoid him.

8) Maybe the first time Peter meets Stiles is when he walks in on Phillip and Aurora’s annoying bratling Jennifer - the one who’s constantly trying to cozy up to his nephew - running away in tears. Behind her, Stiles watches her go with a smile, and then he turns and catches sight of Peter.

It’s the start of a beautiful and terrifying relationship.

And… yeah. IVE RAMBLED LONG ENOUGH. IM PUTTING THIS ON MY TO-WRITE LIST. GOD KNOWS WHEN I’LL GET TO IT BUT I LIKE IT VERY MUCH.

Chatpter two: I want you for a life time

Sora finally wants to share a paopu with Kairi, but things go differently than he planned.

10 months ago, I submitted a first draft of this story to the mods of the twosides fanzine, a charity fanzine focusing on Sokai and Rokunami. I can proudly say that I wrote this before KH3 was released (but after the TGS trailer dropped, so I was HEAVILY inspired by it and the lyrics of "Don't think twice") - so I've been giddily sitting on this for quite a while!

I’ve posted the first ‘chapter’ quite a while ago which actually contains cut content that didn't make it into the zine because the story became too long. Today, I can finally share the piece that has been printed in the zine :3

As soon as he heard sand crunching beneath his feet, Sora slowed down. Staying at the edge of the wooden bridge, he pressed one of his hands against his chest, willing his breath to calm down again, only to realize how quickly his heart was beating.

How could planning to commit to the girl he loved be so much more nerve wracking than trying to save the entire universe?!

Sora started to move again, towards the crooked paopu tree on top of which Kairi sat. She stared ahead, into the slowly setting sun, a soft breeze playing with her hair which only lead to Sora's heart pounding even harder in his chest.

He couldn't do this.

He took a step back and caught his foot on that one wayward root of the tree that was strangely shaped like the head of a mouse. He yelped lightly before catching his balance again and started to chuckle lightly, throwing a sheepish smile in Kairi's direction, sure that she had caught every second of it, ready to tease him.

But she didn't. She continued staring out to the ocean, her lightly upwards curled lip the only indication that she had witnessed his moment of embarrassment. And suddenly, Sora understood.

She was giving him a way out.

He had asked her to meet him today on the paopu tree. It didn't take a genius to figure out what Sora wanted to talk about, especially since the both of them could have talked any time while staying in Radiant Garden. Yet, she patiently sat atop of the tree, ankles gracefully crossed as her hands rested on her lap. She waited for him to make the first move – as she always did.

No more. He wouldn't make her wait one more second.

Swallowing his nerves once and for all, Sora hauled himself up onto the tree. Before he could scoot closer however, she turned towards him, a dazzling smile spreading over her lips and Sora prayed to Zeus, Poseidon, even Hades that the evening sun would hide the blush creeping up his cheeks.

“Hey Sora!”

“Kairi,” he replied breathlessly and patted down his left trouser pocket as inconspicuously as possible.

Still there.

“I know you wanted to tell me something, but please, can I go first? It's urgent.”

Upon her words, Sora let go of the flap of his pocket and his brows furrowed in confusion.

“Sure. What's the matter?”

“My lucky charm worked decently up until now, but I feel like we need something stronger, something more reliable. Your last fight with Xehanort,” she faltered and her eyes flashed to the spot on his abdomen where she knew he had been injured, “it was too close of a call. And I wasn't even there to protect you.”

“It's not your job to protect me, Kairi-”

“I could have lost you.”

Sora knew that it was true. He had been in and out of consciousness for a day and bound to his bed for another two, despite countless Curagas being cast on him and gallons of potions being rubbed into his skin and poured into his throat to help him heal.

He would do it all again if it meant that his friends stayed safe.

“The coming battle is unlike anything we have faced so far… this charm will make sure we won’t be separated again.”

She let a small, red pouch slide into his outstretched hand and he looked at it curiously. It was lighter than he anticipated from its looks, tied up with a golden cord that he cautiously pulled at while Kairi began to explain.

“I commissioned this from the Moogles in Radiant Garden. To make sure we won't be separated, they worked a Thalassa shell into it. And to make sure you never get hurt as badly again, I asked them to put as many protective spells onto the charm as possible.”

Sora's eyes widened as he stared into the pouch.

“I know,” Kairi continued, suddenly shy, “it's probably weird that I asked for a ring to be made. I know you don't wear jewelry apart from your necklace, but I wanted the charm to be small and practical, so I figured a ring would be the best choice.”

“Rings.”

“Excuse me?”

“Rings,” Sora repeated and looked up to meet Kairi's eyes again who stared at him in confusion. Wordlessly, he turned the pouch upside down, emptying its contents into his open palm: two slender silver rings, a big one and one slightly smaller, with an orange-red inlay of a Thalassa shell.

Kairi stared at his hand, back at his face and again at his hand.

“Oh,” she finally uttered and even the sunset wasn't able to hide the blush that was spreading over her cheeks as she got a faraway look... before her eyes suddenly hardened. “That explains why they overcharged me! Those little..!” She shook her head. “Anyway. Maybe you can just wear both of them on a necklace? But then again, you already wear your crown necklace. Maybe you can just slip them into your pocket? Or – oh!” Kairi started to gesture frantically and Sora couldn't help but follow the movement of her right hand as an idea formed in his head. “You wore a key chain in the past, didn't you? You could put both rings on it. Or-”

“You could wear the small one.”

Kairi fell silent mid-sentence, her mouth hanging open as the familiar nervousness spread through Sora once again.

“I want you to wear the second ring,” he clarified. “You said this charm will make sure we won't be separated, right? It can't work if I hold onto both rings. And if I get lost, my ring will lead me back to yours.”

All of a sudden, something soft pressed against Sora's lips, but before his brain caught up with what was happening, the sensation stopped and Kairi threw her hands over her mouth, eyes wide in horror.

She had kissed him. Kairi had kissed him!

A dopey grin started to spread over Sora's face and he carefully tugged on Kairi's right hand and held the ring up.

“That's a 'yes', right?”

After she nodded a little dazedly, Sora slipped the ring onto her ring finger. It fit her perfectly.

Kairi took a deep breath as she regarded her new ring. She giggled lightly and reached for the other ring, but she hesitated when she looked at the hand Sora offered her.

“Your left hand?”

“Yeah,” Sora nodded in agreement, “just to make sure that my Keyblade doesn't wear the ring down. Also,” Sora lowered his gaze and stared at Kairi's hand picking up his ring while wearing her own. He couldn't help the smile that tugged on the corners of his lips upon seeing how well her ring suited her. “If I wear it on my left hand and you wear yours on your right hand, they'll touch whenever we hold hands. So they won't be separated.”

“O-Oh,” Kairi nodded, but despite the sudden tremor in her hand, she managed to slide the other ring over Sora's finger. It, too, fit perfectly.

They had just exchanged matching rings. Wow.

“Sora, I-”

“Kairi,” Sora interrupted her as he reached for his pocket. He absolutely couldn't wait any longer.

“I don't want there to be any doubts about my feelings for you.” He pulled the paopu out of his pocket, drawing another gasp out of Kairi.

“Please. Be mine.”

This time she dove forward, cradling Sora's face in her hands, the metal of her new ring cooling his skin as her lips found his again, a little longer this time before pulling away.

“I thought you'd never ask.”

Together, they held the paopu in their hands, smiling at each other. They leaned in, each biting off a piece of the fruit. Sora swallowed greedily and looked at Kairi in wonder.

She was his. He was hers. They had finally shared a paopu.

He reached out for her face, gently cupping her cheek and stroking it with his thumb as she leaned in. He couldn't hold back the “I love you” that tumbled from his lips, but there was no need to anymore. Instead, he was rewarded with the same words and the sweetest smile. A grin spread over Sora's face and he pressed his forehead against Kairi's.

“So? No impulsive kiss?”

He could barely suppress his laughter when he felt Kairi pull back from him, cheeks blown up in mock-annoyance. Cocking his eyebrow, Sora continued.

“I thought third time's the charm? I'm a little disappointed.”

“Well, I wanted to give you the opportunity to surprise me for once, you lazy bum!” She retorted as she stuck out her tongue at Sora. “But I guess if you really don't want to-”

“Who said I don't?”

Sora quickly pulled Kairi close, relishing in the feel of her body against his and smothered her short squeak of surprise when he finally caught her lips with his own.

Here we go again

I know, I know. I may have said a bit too much about Theseus being the subject of the next DLC chapter, but hear me out on this, it works. A little too perfectly imo. Fair warning, this is going to get a little heavy in mythology as well as some of the story details of the first DLC chapter. This is also purely my thoughts, this is hardly speculation on what they could do with the next two DLC chapters, though I do think Theseus could be a part of the Torment of Hades chapter.

Essentially, the Eagle-Bearer is playing the role of Herakles, minus the “Hera hates me and cursed me with fits of rage and destructive behaviors” part. Let’s start from the beginning, the Fields of Elysium. The myth in question is sort of a toss up between the Rape of Persephone and the first myth of Adonis, which is more prominent. The only part of this story you need to remember for my point is that Aphrodite loved Adonis and it was reciprocated. He wanted to return to her, which is an actual part of the myth as well. Now, let’s get back to my idea that Kassandra/Alexios is playing Herakles. I have mentioned before that the misthios fits my idea of a Greek hero and after consideration, the family situation isn’t exactly unlike Herakles’, but that’s not the point. The part of Herakles story I want to focus on here is his final labor, capturing Cerberus and thus, his journey to the Underworld. Herakles plays no real role in the myth of Adonis, but that’s not an issue, because I’m drawing this connection through Persephone and her role in the story. In the DLC, Kassandra/Alexios is trying to get to Hades and getting there as a living mortal requires knowledge that Persephone has, so naturally, they are going to go through the Queen of the Underworld first. Herakles faces a similar issue in this trek to the Underworld, so he took part in the Eleusinian Mysteries, and while WE don’t really know what went on during them, Herakles is said to have learned how Persephone passes from the land of the living to the land of the dead without actually dying. The point I’m making here is that both the hero and Herakles use Persephone in one way or another to get to Hades. Just as reminder, keep Adonis/Aphrodite in mind as I move onto the Torment of Hades chapter.

You might hate me for saying this yet again, but my thoughts revolve around the inclusion of Theseus. Before I jump into it, I need to be completely clear on two things. 1. Greek myths are just myths. They are up to personal interpretation, and that’s that. I believe that the Trojans were in the right, but you may believe the Achaeans were the correct side. I think Theseus did some heroic things, but I wouldn’t consider him a ‘hero’ — you may disagree. That’s all fine. My interpretation is purely my own and it’s based off my knowledge of the stories, just as yours comes from your knowledge, and however you want to interpret these myths is up to you. 2. Aside from the fact that these myths would’ve taken place during the Bronze Age, the timeline is messy at best and you’re just going to have to bear with me. This one isn’t too important, since we’re dealing in mythology and a video game where the Isu exist, but I still want to make that clear. Now that that is out of the way, time to get into the juicy details.

Basically, I believe the hero could encounter Theseus in the Underworld, and I’ve already explained this so I won’t get into the details there. What I will discuss is the logic behind it, beginning with the DLC trailer. In the trailer, Hades mentions that “the Underworld is filled with kings, heroes, legends...all lost,” which sort of implies that the hero will be encountering several heroes, and Theseus might be at the top of the list. Theseus is truly the haphazard hero, as my professor once said, and he is, by many definitions “lost.” Hades also states that “you could give them a purpose,” and that is definitely something Theseus needs, considering he got himself into a fair amount of trouble because of his reckless nature and boredom (kidnapping of Helen of Sparta and attempted kidnapping of Persephone, and his attack on the Amazons). Anyway, I’d like to believe Kassandra will “save” Theseus from his imprisonment and interact with others heroes, giving them purpose in their lack thereof. From here, I can see a couple routes for the Judgement of Atlantis. The most efficient route is less based on mythology and more based on the Minoans and the tragic eruption of Thera. I will talk about that after I talk about the more fun route, however.

The path I’d personally like to see takes us back to that piece of information I wanted you to remember with Adonis/Aphrodite AND Theseus’ poor decisions. I’d love to see Helen and Paris (who does have a connection to both Poseidon and Herakles!!!), but just note, this is really more wistful thinking than a legitimate option. Basically, from Theseus, the hero is sent to Achilles who is completely unhappy in the Underworld (based off the Odyssey, I believe, but don’t quote me on that), and is tasked with dealing with some issue akin to the Trojan War drama. I don’t want to go too far on this because it’s complex, but if you’ve made it this far and want more on this random idea, lmk. I’m happy to fill you in. Now let’s talk about the actual, legitimate idea involving the Minoans and their untimely demise. This route is a lovely wrap up, I believe, because it’s very closely related to the story of Atlantis, and as much as I hate to admit it, it’s fairly likely that the Minoans and their great civilization was the basis for Plato’s Atlantis in his writings. Anyway, should this be the subject of the Judgement of Atlantis, we’ll likely see Hephaestus and Poseidon due to their associations with volcanoes and earthquakes/tsunami respectively, and we may even met the other Gods of the Greek Pantheon in their judgement of this advanced civilization that maybe got a little too advanced? We could even see Deucalion, Minos, or even Ariadne (that connection to Theseus would be nice~) and their struggle against the destruction of their home or the fate of Atlantis, pun intended.

That’s all I’ll say for now because I’m tired, but if you are interested in a more in depth approach to the individual ideas, I’m happy to share. Sorry this got so long, I tend to ramble when it comes to this stuff and I don’t know how to be concise apparently. I’m practically always thinking about this stuff so it’s always changing and getting more complex, and this is all just ideas. I have no true evidence and I, in no way, claim that this will happen. The Emotional Weight of Star Wars, Anakin Skywalker, and Kylo Ren

It’s the year 2001. I was in 4th grade - sitting in the same exact seat that I’d soon find myself sitting in when my teacher explained what had happened on 9/11. Every month, our teacher passed out the TIME for Kids magazine, and I read it voraciously every time. Other kids would casually look at the pictures, but I’d read each article carefully - some even more than once.

In this particular issue, there was an article about Hayden Christensen - the new Anakin Skywalker. I’d seen all of the original Star Wars movies, and The Phantom Menace. I loved them, and I’d sometimes beg my dad to dig out or VHS set so I could watch them on weekends. I don’t remember what my exact thoughts were on Episode I, but I do remember thinking that I loved Padme because she was like Leia - even at that age, I wasn’t content with the way women were portrayed in media. For example, I had months and months of my childhood where I pretended that I was Xena: Warrior Princess, and lived inside of a box in my living room that I pretended was my “lair”, and ate jello because it looked like ambrosia.

Padme and Leia were different - they were so strong, and they didn’t care what anyone else thought. At a New Year’s Eve Party in 1999 (soon to be 2000), I remember playing “war” with a group of my friends who were boys, and their little sister. “You can be a nurse”, they said, and handed me a first aid kit while they ran around with toy guns, shooting one another. I remember picking up one of the guns off of the floor and shooting each of them directly in the forehead before throwing it to the side and walking away, as if to say “amateurs”.

Back to the TIME article. It was introducing Hayden as the adult Anakin Skywalker - we didn’t know much about him at all, but I immediately liked him because fourth grade me thought he was cute. Go me.

By the time Episode II came out, I went to see it with my dad, and I remember him remarking on how interesting the Anakin character was. I told him how he was Canadian, and some of the other facts I’d learned in the magazine. Looking back on it, wonders never cease that little me was also ahead of the Star Wars game - if only I would have known.

By the time Episode III came out, I was old enough to go by myself with my friends. I saw it three or four times, and used my allowance and birthday money to do so. And here’s where things changed for me. 1) That shirtless scene. Oh, yes, we’d had one in Episode II, but I wasn’t old enough to really think about it. By the time 2005 rolled around, I was starting out this whole angst phase where I did nothing but watch Episodes II and III repeatedly, and watch Store Wars on whatever video platform I could find it on at the time. (This was around the same time that the Numa Numa guy was doing all that for those of you that will get that reference.)

2) The FALL. Anakin’s fall. It was the first time I’d ever watched a character go through this before. Right before our eyes, he made decisions that he thought would lead to an outcome he wanted - a better outcome - and he failed. He turned. He became this iconic villain that had always existed, and was EVERYWHERE. And Hayden did it so well. People can scream and cry and laugh at Hayden’s performance all they want, but that boy WAS Anakin Skywalker. He was everything he was supposed to be - if they didn’t like it, then they didn’t like the character - because his portrayal was flaw.less.

3) Padme and Anakin I distinctly remember having some kind of family gathering where my aunt said “and obviously some things happened off screen if she’s having babies now” and I was SCANDALIZED. I was like “how dare you talk about my characters like that? Clearly it happened but they are MY characters, I know their souls, why are YOU talking about them?” I was so oddly territorial, even then. But I’d spent so much time contemplating all of their motives, emotions, and just who they were - that they felt so incredibly real to me.

Even though Anakin and Padme’s relationship eventually led to the creation of Darth Vader, I still wanted what they had in Episode II. The obsession, possession, the passion, the drive. The Star-Crossed lovers.

When I was fifteen, I got that. The height difference. The “I know where you are in the room without having to search for you”. The “I called you just now as you’re walking away from me just so I could watch you pick up the phone”. The strange, unnerving connection. Looking back on it, he even remotely LOOKED like Hayden. He moved like Hayden. He talked like Hayden - but I was the Anakin. I had so much going on in my life - so much baggage, so much angst in my teenage soul, I had never related to a character more than I related to him, and to this day I’m not 100% sure if that was a self-fulfilling prophecy or not. And just like Anakin and Padme, it all went up in flames in a day. Every single bit of it - laced with death and destruction, and that changed me. It split who I was to the core, and I walked into the abyss as everything turned to ash around me. I’m not kidding. That sounds dramatic, but I can’t say any more about what happened because it’s just too much to deal with and explain, but I eventually found solace in Star Wars.

I watched II and III so often I still have every line memorized. I watched every single movie Hayden had ever been involved with, because his acting style and persona were oddly comforting to me even after Star Wars was over. He was familiar.

Flash forward to 2014. Another Star Wars movie is coming out. There’s an image of a character dressed in black, in the snow, with a lightsaber that resembles some kind of crusade weapon. Everyone makes fun of it, makes memes where the cross vents are EVERYWHERE. What an absolutely ridiculous character? Whatever, I’ll see it. But nothing will ever measure up to what Anakin’s character meant to me when I was a teenager.

2015. There’s a trailer. Okay, Darth Emo? Again, who is this ridiculous person?

December 17, 2015: I somehow saw a leak of this ridiculous person stabbing Han Solo with a message that this was his son. Excuse me? Again - not what I expected from Star Wars.

December 19, 2015 4:45pm: I emerged from the theater wanting to cry. Just... 1000% flabbergasted because they’d given me something I never thought I’d find. A character that I’d relate to equally if not more so than I did to Anakin when I was 13 years old.

I was in such a strange place in my life when The Force Awakens came out. A second puberty, if you will. It was awful? Everything felt wrong? I didn’t know my place. I was wrought with anxiety. And here was this character who had this aesthetic that hearkened back to the days when I’d sit in the corner at school and draw on my vans, wear all black, and listen to Panic! at the Disco and AFI like it was my religion, while at the same time relating all-to-well to Anakin Skywalker. This character loved Anakin and was his grandson, and I felt like I’d been given the biggest gift and I had no idea that this seemingly-ridiculous creature from the trailer would have such an impact on my life.

To boot - this character was just plain badass? Everything about him was beautiful and tortured, and dark but laced with fear and possibly - good intentions buried deep beneath the mask? And his actor was beautiful as well. So incredibly stunning, and deep, and carried him so well he felt real.

The lightsaber though - that’s what got me. I felt so unstable at this point in my life - the lightsaber was such a metaphor. Jagged, unfinished, unstable. I too, felt that if I carried one, it would have these characteristics.

I felt belonging again. This character gave me peace by bringing me discord and letting me drown in it.

December 14, 2017, 10:45pm: Peace. i’d waited two years to see what would happen to Kylo Ren - Ben Solo, and once again I feel like our journeys are similar. Although I still have many demons to face, and many lessons to learn, I’m in a better place. A more stable place. Where I felt trauma I now feel at peace, even though I have days where I feel completely out of control.

His trajectory though, is clear. Rey, and redemption. I’m also amazed that it’s all so Byronic and/or Pride and Prejudice-y - what a gift? What an absolutely beautiful gift? How Hades and Persephone? After what I’d been through in those rough years where I felt like Anakin after he’d lost everything, I was amazed at how emotionally invested I was in Rey and Ben, because there’s clearly something there. Snoke, schmoke - that Force Bond is theirs. The idea that they’ll create balance is so freaking beautiful, and it made me want that for myself as well.

I don’t know what form it will take, but I know that in 2 years I feel like I will be so much more at peace with my own life, but also - this time there’s not as much wondering. I was so worried about what they’d do with this character, and the emotional weight he carries in the story and for so many people around the world - other than the concept of the fact that he’s just plain cool to most, or “Darth Millenial” to others.

Anakin and Kylo Ren (Ben Solo) have a strange amount of value to me, I’m aware, but I just wanted to share the power of storytelling, and how it can truly get you through the best of times, the worst of times, and everything in between.

A Surprisingly Charming Underworld | A Continuation of the Hades Review (Blog #2)

Introduction

This is a follow-up blog to my previous review of Hades. In that post I covered the game’s unique gameplay and how it absorbs the player’s attention. This time, however, we will be discussing the different artistic parts of the game. These parts include story, visuals, characters, and many other things that are too brief to be made into a separate post.

Part 2: Progress (1/2)

By the time this post has been written, I have completed several more successful escape attempts and have gotten one of the endings. I still haven’t reached the true ending yet, despite having about 70 hours clocked into this game. I haven’t achieved the specific requirements for me to see it, but perhaps I’ll edit this post once I do.

I’m starting to understand the routine and structure of how I write these reviews, and I think it will help me greatly in organizing my thoughts about things. My brain often jumps from one point to another with no in-between, so perhaps writing them down will force me to draw connections between them.

Part 2: Review (2/2)

*Disclaimer: keep in mind that these are just my takeaways from the game, and that many may not share the same opinions as me. I emphasize this on part 2 in particular because of how it deals with more artistic/storytelling aspects.

I went into Hades very blindly. I had no previous experience with it like fans who were following it all throughout development. Consequently, I had no idea who Zagreus was and what kind of character he was, much less any of the other ones. I will say, though, that my first impression upon watching the trailer was that the game would would be a really edgy, considering that Zagreus’ character design (as well as the background art) generally had a darker look to it.

To my shock, it turned out to be quite light-hearted and humorous, although its story beats still felt important and serious.

The basic premise was that Zagreus wanted to escape from his father’s realm in the Underworld. What the trailer doesn’t tell you is that he is doing it to find his lost mother, Persephone, who returned to the surface after thinking he died at birth. His father wouldn’t allow him to see her, for fear of endangering her. Zeus had given her to him “as a gift” (which Hades was rightfully upset about, despite loving her) without the knowledge of any other of the Olympians. If they found out what happened to her, there would be war among the Gods. Of course, the information isn’t given right off the bat. Zagreus, and proximity the audience, has no idea why his father doesn’t let him see her. The player discovers this information as they attempt more and more runs, making the progression of the story feel organic and natural. The player doesn’t get the full ending once the first run is completed, so the story is also responsible for much of its replay value.

Dialogue being closely related to the player’s personal decisions is interesting, and I’ve seen few games that have that. However, it would be less interesting if the characters delivering these lines were flat and boring. But we’re in luck! The characters’ memorable personalities and stunning design are more than enough to charm the player, aided by stellar voice acting! Here are a few of my favorites ones:

I also want to applaud the game for good representation! Zagreus is canonically bisexual, and it isn’t hidden in the media itself (which is a common thing for video games and T.V shows to do).

The art style in this game is amazing, and all I can say is that it is simply stunning to look at. This isn’t only limited to the characters either. The backdrops of each region in the Underworld are very aesthetically pleasing. The colors blend very well with each other. You need to sometimes stop to appreciate it, as the gameplay can be extremely intense while going through these areas. Here is a picture of Elysium, the third area of the game.

The music in this game is also very well composed. My favorite thing about it is that the soundtrack uses both ethnic guitar instruments such as bağlamas and incorporates elements of rock for the more intense fights in the game. It fits perfectly with the kind of theme that Hades has. It has both “the old” and “the new” wrapped up in a nice package. My favorite songs include “The Lament of Orpheus” and “Out of Tartarus”, which was the song that the team chose to market the game with. I have to confess that I’ve listened to these and various other songs on more than one occasion during my zoom classes.

A question that is often thrown around about this game is if it is accurate to Greek mythology. It is often said that modern media always wrongly portrays it, so is Hades any different? The answer is (mostly) a yes.

Hades removes a lot of the more icky relationships between the gods of the original stories, like inc*st and p*dophilia, which were not thought to be problematic when Greek mythology was written. They change around parts of the family tree so none of those elements were present. This is understandable, and can’t really be avoided.

The game take a lot of creative liberties with the areas of the Underworld. Asphodel in the original myths is a flower field where many of the ordinary souls go to. Asphodel hosts the same type of souls in Hades, but the area is a scorching hot field of lava and fire. I can infer that they made this change for a more practical reason, however. A flowery meadow would be too similar to what the developers picture for Elysium, so they wanted to have a different look for it. . Although, it is still alluded that Asphodel used to be luscious and green, but was flooded by magma river Phlegethon. I can appreciate that they were still faithful to the original tales in this way.

Other than these minor details, I’d like to say it’s very well researched and a good representation of the original stories. It clearly differentiates itself from the Hollywood tropes that make up many movies based off of Greek mythology. They nail the dysfunctional relationships and dynamics between Hades and the other Olympians, who have a very strained relationship. I also enjoy the fact that they made the Olympians rather condescending and temperamental, even if it was in a subtle way. The original Greek gods were definitely very flawed people according to the myths.

Drawing on that idea, the game plays on themes of family, especially ones that are dysfunctional. Zagreus has harbored resentment towards his dad, as he has never treated him kindly. It was mostly his stepmother, Nyx (the personification of night) who raised him throughout his life after Persephone had left. The player can tell from the moment they first see Hades that the two are not on good terms. The way he constantly berates him and insults him Hades was never outright violent towards Zagreus (he is the final boss at the end of each run, but outside of that Hades has never been violent with him), but emotionally neglected him for his whole life. I can honestly connect with Zagreus, because I know what it’s like to live in a dysfunctional environment with parents who are no longer together.

What is heartwarming, though, is that all the other servants in this House of Hades support Zagreus (some more than others), and many of them try to help him in his escape attempts. It sends a message that there will always be people who care, even when your circumstances aren’t the most favorable.

In addition, after many successful escapes, Persephone will actually return to the Underworld with Zagreus. When that happens, she helps Hades reconcile with his son, and his son reconcile with him in turn. It isn’t an instant change, as both still have mild hostility towards one another, but it is a step forward.

Reflection/Final Thoughts

Hades is a game that believes any relationship can be salvaged if both parties are willing to try and understand the other. It is an amazing game, with amazing visuals and audio. It gets more impressive when you realize Supergiant is an indie game company. Only a handful of people worked together on the project, and it has more quality than a lot of Triple A games out there (looking at you Cyberpunk). The company even has a significant social media presence, where they interact with fans quite often. This illustrates how much they care about them, and the passion they have put into every aspect of the developing process.

Ok so Fauxteen (fauxteen.tumblr.com / instagram.com/fauxteen) and his Drag Race/Steven Universe crossover got me feeling all sorts of ways. Go check out his other work and support it because it’s all incredible!

I’ve always loved the idea of having a RuPaul’s Drag Race superhero crossover team ala Justice League, X Men, Sailor Moon etc. and his Steven Universe crossover is the best thing I’ve seen that comes close to that. (Other than Fire Crotch and Melanina henny.) So I decided to come up with a concept for a Drag Race super hero team, and use his artwork as a concept piece.

For the design of the team, I wanted the queens to be unified with a similar texture but each have their own signature color and aesthetic. I took the standard colors of the rainbow (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple & pink) and added a few others (turquoise, brown, black & white) to round the number to 11.

Each Queens Assigned Color:

Bebe - Brown If you google image search Bebe, or go to her website, she is always wearing brown and is always in some sort of animal print, and these two go great together. Her iconic Cameroon look was cleary the inspiration for her outfit in the piece. The color brown also has a great animalistic quality to it which goes hand in hand with her brand. (The outfit seems to be inspired by her Cameroon look)

Tyra - White When I think of Tyra, I think of her in her iconic wedding dress which initially had me place her with white. What I love is that white represents light, hope and purity amongst many things, which is why it’s the color worn by brides and angels. It’s ironic to put Tyra in white, almost in the same way she calls herself “America’s Sweetheart.” It gives me life thinking of her in a pristine angelic outfit knowing the attitude she has. <3 #jump #twice (The outfit seems to be based on her Season 2 promo picture, but as well, the wedding dress which had the same shape)

Raja - Blue Not necessarily inspired by a look, but when I think of Season 3, I always think of the color blue because of the promo trailers for the season. I’ve naturally associated that with Raja, and the color fits her very well. It’s sleek, cool and royal which matches Raja’s qualities. When it’s right, it’s right. (The outfit seems to be based on her entrance look, wearing the cyclops hat)

Sharon - Green Green’s hard to pull off and Sharon can pull off anything. I’m instantly reminded of her pride boat look, as well as her crowning look when she wore green. It’s also the color associated with witches which fits her brand very well. (The outfit seems to be a combination of her Season 4 promo look, as well as her crowning look)

Chad - Pink Chad’s the closest a winner has come to being a Barbie girl. She was often critiqued for being too perfect, too pretty, and too polished. Pink goes well with Chad’s princess aesthetic, being a showgirl, and having the bubbly personality she does. (Her outfit seems to be inspired by her AS1 promo look, as well as yellow bang cut wig she wore in Season 4)

Jinkx - Orange I always think of orange with Jinkx mostly because of her hair. Many outfits come to mind as well including her Season 5 crowning look, and her Season 8 reunion look. Something about the warmth of orange and the cookiness of it matches Jinkx and her broadway aesthetic very well. (Her outfit seems to be inspired by her Episode 1 Hollywood look)

Bianca - Black Bianca is one that could’ve been many colors, such as red or purple, but I decided to go with black. She is known for claiming she has a black heart, as her forte is reading people and throwing shade. She is known for being “evil,” and the color black is associated with darkness. However similar to Tyra, having Bianca in black is ironic for we know that she actually has one of the biggest hearts. It’s fun seeing her look so evil when you know she’s the opposite. (Her outfit seems to be inspired by her Season 7 reunion look, and her wig from the Season 6 black & white runway)

Violet - Purple Need I say more? Her name and essence matches the color perfectly! The femininity of pink but so much edgier.(Her outfit seems to be inspired be her Death Becomes Her look)

Bob - Yellow From Bob’s logo, to her crowning look, to many of her photoshoots, Bob always seems to wear yellow and the color seems to match her very well, more so than any other winner. It’s very bright and sunny, and since Bob is all about making people laugh and stealing the show, she really is always the brightest one in the room. (Her outfit seems to be inspired by her Book Ball look)

Alaska - Turquoise Alaska’s like Sleeping Beauty, she’s either very blue or pink to me. For this design, I decided to go for a turquoise color. This matches her new association with snakes very well. It also fits with the original concept behind Alaska, in which her character is an alien from the planet Glamtron. Not to mention the color turquoise is very arctic (as in the state of Alaska which I often forget to associate with her.) She was probably the most versatile to pick a color, but I think turquoise is a right choice. (Her outfit seems to be inspired by her AS2 promo look, and her wig being classic Alaska)

Sasha - Red The bitch is always in red, and so many of her outfits have splashes of red to them. As well, after her performance to So Emotional with the rose petals, the color red fits her even better now. (Her outfit seems to be inspired by her entrance look which no tea, no shade has the same silhouette of many other outfits of hers. The wig is obviously from So Emotional)

For their actual powers, I only began to brainstorm but wasn’t having that much luck. Maybe Bebe can turn into a jungle cat, and Jinkx can put people to sleep with her singing (Hey Jigglypuff! I just saw Jigglypuff girl!) or maybe she can control the weather (“monsoon”). If you have any ideas let me know!

Also I’d love to here your ideas on a backstory, why they all fight together and how they got their powers, as well as what Ru’s position is in all of this.

I tried to think of one and came up with a rough draft below that needs a lot of work.

I’d love to see other ideas or concepts behind something like this.

BACKSTORY:

Long ago… before time as we know it… the world was made up entirely of the Gods. We know the famous ones, there was Zeus the king and god of thunder, Aphrodite the goddess of love and beauty, Poseidon the god of the sea, Ares the god of war, Hades the god of the underworld and so on and so on. But there was one god that seemed to escape the history books, and that god was known as… RuPaul! She was the god/goddess of one of the most powerful forces in the universe… queerness! (YAS GAWD!) She spread her eternal message of loving thine self before loving someone else and was easily the most fabulous god and one of the most powerful. Everybody loved her and looked to her for direction in the most troubling of times. Ru was in fact the god who invented colour and the rainbow itself. Many of the Gods had items that sourced their powers; Zeus had his lightning bolts, Poseidon had his trident, etc. RuPaul however carried the source of her powers upon her head in a luxurious crown. The crown was bejewelled with several gemstones along the surface, each gemstone a different color with a different power and meaning behind it. There are many stories from the ancient days about the goddess RuPaul, but those are for another time.

As the world began to evolve more and more throughout time, the gods naturally faded away and became one with the world…

When the world was in it’s 20th century, it was not in a progressive era that it should’ve been and was in need of some saving. In early 1960, a woman by the name of Ernestine became pregnant with a child. One day, a strange physic woman came to her and told her that her child was the incarnation of a legendary god, and that she was to name the child RuPaul. By the end of the year, Ernestine gave birth to the child, and as instructed, named him RuPaul. Ru began to grow up in the world without knowing who he truly was.

Then one day as he walking home, a young Ru walked past an old antique shop he had never seen before, and decided to go inside. The shop was filled with many wondrous things, and no one was in there except a mysterious woman who seemed to own the shop. Ru took a look around, and eventually came across a dazzling crown with various coloured jewels along the surface. It was like something out of a dream and he just had to have it! So Ru took the crown to the the front of the store and began to search his pockets for some money. The woman behind the counter just smiled at him and said “take this one on me.” Ru was so grateful, and just before he left the woman asked him for one more thing. She said she had one too many records in the store and asked him to take one off of her hands. She then gave him his very first record, a record containing the music of Diana Ross. With much appreciation for the gifts from the stranger, Ru left the store. That night at home, Ru was dancing around his room wearing the crown he got earlier, and truly feeling his fantasy. He decided to then play his new Diana Ross record. The music began, and as soon as she started singing, Ru’s crown lit up and all the powers within Ru were awakened. As time went on, Ru slowly began to learn who he really was, and what powers he possessed.

Around the time of the late 70’s, Ru went out in the world and began working as a female vigilante, using her powers to defeat crime against crime. She wore a fabulous iridescent costume and quickly gained public attention, making a name for herself. She met the likes of a woman named Michelle Visage who became Ru’s sidekick and trusted advisor. As well, she often worked alongside another vigilante by the name of Lady Bunny, who became Ru’s partner. Adventure after adventure, Ru sashayed and shantayed her way to victory in every battle. She saw many beauties of the world, as well as much of its darkness. Then, Ru made the biggest mistake any god could make… she fell in love. His name was Georges, and he was a farmer boy Ru met one night on the dance floor. Other than Michelle and Lady Bunny, he was the only one who knew Ru’s true identity.

One day, a new villain emerged on the scene. This villain however, was no ordinary foe Ru had faced in the past. He went by the name of Lord Padmunt and he possessed a tremendous amount of power, as well as led a powerful army of minions. The only one who could stop him was RuPaul, but Georges told her to be careful for she didn’t know the strength of his power. Lord Padmunt and Ru were great rivals who battled many battles for quite some time. With the powers of a god, Lord Padmunt could never defeat Ru. But then one day, he discovered her secret lover. He captured Georges as his prisoner and told Ru to surrender her powers, or the man she loved would die in front of her eyes. This wasn’t going to stop Ru who was determined to defeat Lord Padmunt. She managed to defeat him and banished him away, but in a terrible battle that severely injured both herself and Georges. Ru had a wide slash alongside her leg while Georges suffered a blow to the head. Georges was so severely hurt, that he was to remain in a coma for the rest of his life. Ru felt a tremendous amount of guilt on what had happened. As a god, she could easily heal herself of her injuries, but she didn’t have the abilities to heal Georges. Out of her love and respect to him, Ru surrendered her powers so that she could live the rest of her life as a mortal and have to endure the same pain inflicted upon Georges. With no powers, Ru swore to never fight another day in her life. Without her love, she went into a dark place and hid herself from the world, living in secrecy. The only two who knew of her whereabouts were Michelle and Bunny. The world believed Ru had died. And as their beloved hero was now gone, the people of the world strived to make it a better place in her honour and legacy. For some time, they actually did, and the world became a peaceful and more progressive place. But as we know, nothing last forever…

Much time had passed, and it was now the year 2008. The world was in happy place as Obama was just elected president. Ru watched the outside world through her television and was at peace in the direction things were headed, while knowing there was still more work the people of the world had to learn and do for themselves. However one day she was visited by her friend and former associate Michelle, who had come to deliver some news to Ru. Michelle had heard word of mouth through the grape vine, that a billionaire was trying to climb the ladder of the world to reach a more successful place. His name? Donald Trump. Michelle told Ru that this Trump character had plans to run for presidency and to hopefully become the successor to Obama. Although unqualified, Trump seemed to have a plan that would lead him to office without fail. Michelle would never bring news like this to Ru nowadays but she knew that this time it was important. She showed Ru a picture of Trump, and as soon as Ru glanced at his face, in an instant Ru recognized the smirk on Trump’s face and the gleam in his eyes. As a master of Scrabble, Ru also recognized that his name was an anagram of a name Ru once knew very well… Lord Padmunt. If he could manage to make his way to the highest position in the world, then there was no telling what danger lay ahead. Since Ru gave up his powers so he could grow old and live a mortal life in honour of Georges, he had previously vowed to never fight again, and he still vowed to honour that promise. But he knew something had to be done about this.

Ru went to a room in his lair with the highest amount of security, a room he hadn’t been to in years. In this room was his legendary crown. Ru took his crown and removed each of the eleven gemstones that were on its surface. Ru knew that by the end of 2016 to early 2017, Trump would become president. In this time, Ru knew he had to search far and wide to find eleven chosen ones who possessed enough charisma, uniqueness, nerve and talent as Ru did to follow in his footsteps. He would give each individual a gemstone which contained a fraction of Ru’s powers. These would give the chosen ones many wondrous powers like the ones Ru once possessed. Michelle was worried about finding people qualified, but Ru assured her they were already out there. For as she had been reincarnated, so had all of her powers. With the help of Michelle Visage, Ru began his search…

[This is one method, where the queens are regular men who obtain super powers rather than pre-existing super beings who form a team]

In 2009, Ru came across Nea Marshall Kudi, a prince of his people in Cameroon who came to America and began working with wildlife and the UN. Ru found him to be the chosen one of his first gemstone, the golden brown sphalerite. This gave Nea the ability to transform into warrior, Bebe Zahara Benet. The world had a new hero and the first of her kind.

In 2010, Ru found James Ross, a runaway groom who was trying to escape his past and provide a better life for his young child. He worked his way through life by going to school during the day, while stripping at night. Ru gave him his second gemstone, the white diamond, and this gave James the ability to transform into warrior, Tyra Sanchez. While still having their own adventures, Bebe and Tyra also began to work as a team.

In 2011, Ru discovered Sutan Amrull. He was a creative makeup artist and photographer, who was highly spiritual. Ru gave him the blue sapphire which turned Sutan into the warrior, Raja Gemini. The team was now a trio.

In 2012, Ru found Aaron Coady, a club goer heavily involved in the punk rock scene, always getting into trouble, who often experimented with witch craft. Ru found him to be the chosen one to receiving the green emerald, which gave Aaron the ability to turn into Sharon Needles. Sharon joined the group as its fourth member.

Later that year, Obama was already leading into his second term, and Ru and Michelle knew they had work harder to finding successors to Ru’s powers before the end of Obama’s second term. They came across Chad Michaels, a former pageant winner, and current Vegas performer who possessed all the qualities in receiving the pink rose quartz. Chad Michaels now possessed the abilities to turn into super hero, Brigitte Love. However, in a bizarre plan that ended up working, Chad still referred to herself as Chad Michaels in hopes of using reverse psychology to protect her identity.

In 2013, the team came across Jerick Hoffer, a struggling Broadway actor who was best suited for the role of Ru’s next gemstone, the orange spessartine, which gave Jerick the abilities to transform into Jinkx Monsoon.

In 2014, Ru and Michelle began to keep a watchful eye on Roy Haylock, CEO of a successful company that catered to literature and reading. As the bad bitch in charge, she was the chosen one to receive the powers of the black gemstone, the schorl, giving Roy the great power of turning into warrior, Bianca Del Rio.

In 2015, the world was fascinated with its latest “It Boy” in fashion. A youngster by the name of Jason Dardo. Ru realized that this young model was in fact the chosen one to receive the powers of the purple amethyst, transforming Jason into vixen, Violet Chachki.

At the beginning of 2016, with three gemstones left, Ru and Michelle came across comedian Christopher Caldwell. After years of the team wondering who would be the chosen one to receive the yellow gemstone, Christopher fit the bill. He obtained the yellow citrine and became Bob The Drag Queen.

With two gemstones left, and Trump’s presidency coming closer and closer, Ru and Michelle worked twice as hard to find the two remaining chosen ones. But something funny happened. Justin Honard was a close ally of the team. He was dating Sharon around the time she joined the team, and although Sharon wasn’t suppose to, she revealed her identity to Justin. Because of this, Ru and the team kept Justin close as an assistant despite his difficult relationship with Sharon that ended up turning into a beautiful friendship. As they continued to search, in an epic battle against an enemy where Justin was held captive (similarly to how Georges once was), Justin was revealed to being the chosen one of a gemstone, and it turned out one of the chosen ones was under their nose the entire time. They threw him the turquoise gemstone transforming Justin into Alaska 5000.

Just as Trump was elected president, in 2017 the team finally found their final member. An artist who owned his own gallery by the name of Alexander Steinberg. He was given the red ruby, and it transformed him into warrior Sasha Velour.

As a new era of hatred begins, it’s the responsibility of RuPaul’s gemstones to help save the world…

How Kingdom Hearts III will probably go down

First of all, THANKS FOR LIKING MY WRITING STYLE. I TRY MY BEST. To do with the theory I wrote, the huge majority of it was thanks to @derekscorner, who I really couldn’t thank more for letting me post the revised version. Seriously, it got so much attention and I’m so happy that lots of people saw it and liked it.

So... how do I think the ending to Kingdom Hearts III will happen?

*rubs hands together, snickering in the darkness*

Kingdom Hearts III trailers and teasers are SUPER unclear with what the main plot is leading up to.

We all know that Xehanort is preparing 13 vessels of pure darkness in order to forge part of the X-Blade and plans to use the 7 Hearts of Pure Light, i.e. the Princesses of Heart in order to forge the rest. So to protect the 7 Princesses, we need 7 Guardians of Light. Seems correct, one Guardian per light to ensure that the Princesses aren’t hurt or corrupted in any sort of way.

This being said, I’m had my fair share of wishing for our beloved and under-developed Kairi to become a Guardian of Light. But plot-wise, it doesn’t make sense. Yes, train Kairi to use her Keyblade so that she may protect herself and her friends! I want my fearless Kairi more than anything!

(i appreciate the hood with cat ears more than god damn anything else, seriously, she looks so adorable)

But do I really think Sora and company would really risk having Kairi on the front-lines when Xehanort has so easily corrupted people in the past? Sora nearly fell into the Darkness in Dream Drop Distance and almost became another pawn. Not to mention, Riku got pretty damn close some times and Terra literally lost himself in the Darkness. Xehanort is a master tactician who’s manipulative-nature has hurt so many people.

So instead of having Kairi up front and fighting, I’d think that Riku more than anyone would want her to stay behind, where it’s safe. From there, she’s isolated. And that’s a golden opportunity for someone to go after her.

And that leads into Lea/Axel’s role. During the Orchestra tour, there was a reading of Kairi’s letter to... someone... about how Lea was really sorry for what had happened to her and that he wanted to make it up to her. He’s going to become protective of her, try to support her in any way he can to atone for what Axel did, kidnapping her out of brash action to get Sora to chase him.

You’d assume Sora would be the one to protect Kairi, since he’s clearly one of the Guardians, but he’s having to go out to other worlds, search for the Keyblade of Returning Hearts, the lost Keyblade Wielders, regain his lost strength. Sora can’t stay back with Kairi when there’s something else he has to do. So who’s best to stay with her? Well of course, it’s Lea.

“So.... who’s the seventh Guardian?”

Hey, I didn’t even NAME all of the Guardians. I’ve got reasoning as to why each person on this list is a Guardian. Yeah, that’s right, unlike SOME PEOPLE WHO WON’T RELEASE INFORMATION ABOUT THE GAME, I’ve got EVIDENCE to back my conclusions. Be this reasoning for defensive or offensive action, it should all make sense.

So who ARE the Seven Guardians of Light?

1. Sora

Quite literally the most obvious one since he IS the main character. But Sora isn’t a guardian to a SPECIFIC light, but rather he’s supposed to maintain caution for all of them. I have the sneaking suspicion we’ll be visiting all of the worlds pertaining to the Princesses of Light, only further backing the idea that Sora is supposed to defend all of them versus focusing on only one.

2. Riku

With ties to the Darkness, Riku is one of the most fit to defend those from the Darkness. While Sora and Aqua clearly show power to defeating the Darkness with Light, Riku fought valiantly against it using his own combination of both the Light and Dark. After all, Darkness isn’t a bad thing, as we’ve been taught by his character arc. It’s what happened in the past and those that abuse it that give Darkness a bad name.

3. Aqua

Having her own experience with the Darkness, living in it for over 12 years and fighting it off for all that time, she will know how to combat it to protect those she cherishes. She knows how to fight Xehanort. She’s the only one BESIDES Terra who’s actually been in a direct fight with Master Xehanort. She understands how to fight the Darkness with Light and could teach it to the others. She’s the expert.

4. Ventus

This one is a bit dipping into theory zone, but assuming Vanitas and Ventus reformed together as one heart instead of two separate entities, Ventus should have all of Vanitas’ memories and experiences. Which means, to an extent, Ventus should have a pretty good picture of what Xehanort plans to do with the X-Blade once it’s been forged and how to stall that from happening. Even if he hasn’t recovered Vanitas’ memories, he has the most experience fighting him and definitely knows how to fight off the Darkness, which adds into a whole “Vanitas can return” arc and how Xehanort might exploit that, etc. Alongside his brotherly nature and stalwart actions, he’s a perfect candidate for going to recover Terra.

5. Terra/Lingering Will

Terra is currently in a very questionable state. His heart is sealed inside his body, which is currently being shared with Xehanort. Meanwhile, it appears his will to fight has been sealed inside his armor. And then there’s the fact that Terranort as Ansem’s apprentice gave into the Darkness and created a Heartless and Nobody. His Heartless, Ansem the Seeker of Darkness, held both Xehanort’s and Terra’s hearts captive in it’s Darkness. Meanwhile, his Nobody, Xemnas, held Terranort’s shared body in existence. Both were destroyed and became whole again. But when Terranort reformed... he didn’t look like Terranort, but rather Xehanort has regained his original body. So... where’s Terranort?

I have reason to believe that Xehanort regained his old body while Terra regained his real one. But seeing as how his will is trapped inside a suit of armor, his body is unresponsive and his heart will not awaken. So Xehanort is holding him somewhere until they reclaim his armor or find some other way to awaken him. That being said, that puts Terra in a prime position to be recovered by Sora and company. He should know everything Xehanort is planning to do and how to combat it. And being that he probably hates Xehanort don’t know why he wouldn’t, he’s hella ready to fight back.

6. Roxas

OKAY HOLD ON, I KNOW WHAT YOU’RE GONNA SAY, BUT just listen to me okayyyy

Roxas is very hard-set on achieving his goals. He’s stubborn and aggressive when he wants to be, making him a top-notch fighter. He throws what people say over his shoulder and keeps on going. But while he does ignore what people say directly to him, what happens to his friends is what hurts. Roxas puts himself in harms way repeated times throughout 358 in attempts to help those he cares about. I certainly wouldn’t be surprised if his only passion to fight was because he wanted to protect others.

Also, pretty sure this kid has the biggest grudge against Xemnas and will probably not stop being angry until the man has a key in his chest.

7. Mickey

Because it’s Disney, fuck real reasoning.

You want a PROPER StormDriver™ explanation? ‘Kay, I’ll try.

Mickey, having shown to be such a powerful Keyblade wielder in multiple instances, is clearly adept at taking on the Darkness and protecting other people. He’s basically a pro in all of the instances here, having been fighting the Darkness since before Birth by Sleep. It’s literally experiencing outweighing youth.

He also probably feels passionate about protecting his 3 friends even though he never met Terra and wants them to all be happy. Ven is in a coma, Aqua is in Hell, Terra is... God knows where. And it’s Xehanort’s fault. He probably wants to avenge them.

“But what’s gonna happen?!”

Kingdom Hearts III is concluding the Xehanort saga. That basically confirms Xehanort is gonna fucking die. We’re not just gonna resurrect everyone and then YAY WE WIN BECAUSE LIGHT AND FRIENDSHIP AND

If there’s ANYTHING this franchise has taught me, it’s that Sora Squad does NOT get the easy button.

In order to properly prepare for the oncoming battle with Xehanort, there is literally a to-do list for this game’s plot.

Find Aqua and hope she’s not dead.

Find Ventus and his missing heart.

Find out what the fuck even happened to Terra.

Retrieve the Keyblade of Returning Hearts.

Ensure all of the Princesses of Heart are okay.

Honestly, the list goes on and on. There’s so much shit we’ve gotta do to make this turn in the hero’s favor. Which means this game is gonna be HELLA long and probably REALLY FUN.

Upon completing said to-do list, odds are shit hit the fan and someone got hurt. Discrepancy in their ranks is gonna lead to them half-way losing the battle against Xehanort, the X-Blade is gonna be forged, Kingdom Hearts is gonna fuck shit up. And then the heroes and heroines are gonna have to try to fix it with the power of friendship or some bullshit like that.

It’s honestly too soon for me to make any kind of real theories about this game, considering we have a grand total of 3 cutscenes from the trailers.

(In case you’re wondering, I’m referring to the scene of Sora holding the Master’s Keeper keyblade from the first trailer, the conversation between Pete, Maleficent and Hades, and the scene where Xemnas accuses Sora of using the Darkness.)

IF we get more stuff outta the D23 trailer, I’ll be able to say more. But I seriously can’t make any real theories besides ones that beat the old games even more.
