i refuse to let clamp off the hook for underutilising himawari's fucking fascinating character setup and traits but on a less serious level im obsessed with the concept of her as an instigator of chaos.

like she's way less airheaded than she seems and it doesn't come off like Default Airhead Girl Behaviour or even Default Girl Companion That Ships Her Friends primarily (like not as hard as some other series by comparison I mean she's very I KNOW WHAT YOU ARE by default) specifically she just seems like someone that thoroughly enjoys being a little shit in a sincere way and giggling at her dumbass friends and has a shade of high emotional intelligence about it all. like she's just girl of all time. she's i don't know where im going with this just take this low effort meme from when i watched the holic stage play on youtube this isn't a coherent thought it's like 2am ill come up with better thoughts later

#ive seen kaguya sama and i know chika is a little bit rotted as a human being but we need to think about himas agent of chaos potential #this is all my personal intepretation but in general i find her a very cool character and working with the barebones framework is still fun #shes got so many interesting character traits #like how shes totally hooked on horror and spooky stuff more than the guys #but it has a distinct contrast with her deep fucking trauma and daily struggles with her curse-but-not-cause #theres smth that feels part coping mechanism part catharsis and part just straight up gap moe abt that #like....girl of all time #also her being depicted a lot either in rly bright sunny tones OR gothic lolita and no inbetween #i mean the joy of holic is everyone is basically posable dolls dressed up in whatever outfits you want but like its still a theme #and like we are given tidbits and small bits and pieces of her personality and interests and its not enough but its rly cool to think abt #they underused her frfr but what we do learn in how she reacts to stuff and bounces off other characters is so AAA #its wild how shes kinda a main character but kinda not in such a deeply fleshed out character driven story #i know shes a key player w loads of strong emotional moments but shes overshadowed a lot and it makes me wanna write mad headcanons #i find myself wondering how she copes day to day with her situation and how itd impact her personality around other people and self image #IDK you could write entire books abt her #but mostly: shes sillay #shes a little bit of a blank slate fill in the gaps but my brain is more than happy to supplement vibes and guesses #hima does not read as het to me because queer friendship groups work on stand user logic #i have a few fic ideas where it deep dives on her life as an adult and her push and pull w social interaction #but its early days on that so any details would b not very interesting past the conceot stage lol #i rly gotta get my ass to writing more fic but brain is a fuck writing longform is haaard unless its like idk visual novel formatting #anyway this is just nothing im not aiming for interaction here i just have half baked thoughts abt himawari the girl of all time #also hima kinda goes through hell and back so doing her dumbass 3 person comedy routine w her dumbass frisnds must be of big fuckin solace #its like that post about just being a girl who wants to have fun . she wants to have fun w friends #AND THAT IS OK justice for hima idk i love her even if she got the short end of the stick for deeply long term focused character writing

on the mischaracterization of norway, a mini character analysis (because i feel like people are tired of me going 'oh, i like canon norway so much more than fanon!' without explaining myself)

before anyone starts barking at me, you can prefer fanon interpretations! that's 100% fine! the point of this post is to discuss what canon nor is actually like, because i feel like most people don't even know that there's a difference between canon and fanon

a) on seriousness

i feel like there's a big dissonance between the serious, solemn norway portrayed in fanon, and how he acts in canon! don't get me wrong, he can be serious, but he's also a silly guy! he has a sense of humour and he likes to tease and be kinda mischievous!

some examples from the manga that i feel show this! (there's a lot!! this is a recurring character trait!!)

b) on being cool (he's not) (not even a little bit)

point being that he's a loser and a weirdo and strange and awkward and shy and, unlike how i usually see him in the fandom, not suave at all :,) examples (image order is right to left):

c) on his relationship with other characters

this is gonna be a quick point because tbh it deserves its own post haha but 1) dennor like each other!!!! it baffles me that people act like they don't! norway teases him a lot but he clearly cares!

also a good place to add an explanation as to how nor uses the words "bro" and "brother"! hima has said that his use of the japanese "anko" is meant to resemble a regional japanese accent where the word is used how "bro" would be used to refer to a classmate or friend! it's not meant to be nor thinking of denmark as an actual brother

2) he and ice are silly together :) he calls him just to ask a single question and hangs up on him. he threw him a surprise birthday party right in the middle between their 2 birthdays! he's not just an overbearing older brother, he's genuinely warm toward him!!

Doing this thing because I got blorbos on my mind

A - Current OTPs/OT3s etc.

It may not come as a surprise but I am absolutely rotting on PruMano at all times and have been doing so for basically a year now. It's beginning to melt into my personality and nothing can be done about it. Whenever I'm released from the iron grip of PruMano rotting I enjoy GerIta and FrUk like the normie that I am. The BTT are definitely getting together for threesomes when they're all single and I like them as well.

B - Pairing I initially didn't consider

This might shock you after reading the first bit but. PruMano. See I'm not new to this circus, I first watched Hetalia in 2015 but focused mostly on the Nordic 5 with SuFin and DenNor. This was before PruAus 9/11 (Hima suddenly announcing they're cousins) so I think I was on the PruAus rot.

Other than that I got a friend who I dragged into this hellhole (you know who you are) who has infected me with Frain and TurFra. I have some Thoughts about TurPru but uhh. let's leave that for now.

C - Ships I never liked and never will like

All the ones where there is an unbalanced power dynamic (age gaps, having interacted when one was a child and the other way older etc, former colonies and oppressive states, having a relationship that implies being related etc). I am a seasoned hater of these and I do my best to block anyone who as much as reblogs it. I do not care if it's "just fiction" you guys are weird and not in a good way xoxo

D - Ships I just can't get myself to like

Due to the aforementioned PruMano rot I just don't feel seriously interested in any other pairings I fear. Nothing against PruCan or LietPru for example, I am just so rotted on PruMano that it doesn't make me feel anything lol

E - My crack contributions

I may just be the only person who has even considered TurPru and I have done it in the most unbearable fujoshi way possible </3

Other than that I'm helping out with spreading unrequited GerFra, Frain and TurFra which I do also enjoy on the side.

F - Longest I've been in a fandom

I wanna say this one?? Not actively so, I jumped ship to other things such as Love Live and JJBA in early 2019ish (Love Live even earlier in 2017), but even during my longer breaks from Hetalia I've always ended up rewatching it at some point or posting about it.

For Hetalia it's definitely been GerIta from day one. Do I even need to say anything? To me they're canon.

H - Favorite way of consuming fandom stuff

It's mostly anime series and TV shows I'd say, I do sometimes read but am a bit too busy to properly sit down and do so.

I - Has Tumblr made me dislike fandoms

I think it would take less time to list the fandoms Tumblr HASN'T made me dislike tbh. I try to keep a tight knit circle for my own sanity and rarely interact with the fandom part of stuff apart from my own and my friend's contributions. Highly recommended btw.

To be honest I'm not really browsing Tumblr at all. I like to upload here because the image quality is way better than on Instagram. I suppose I highly associate some fandoms with this site (Undertale for example)?

5. Roderich, gets slack for various Chibitalia related things, does not deserve it at all, it's all whining and he and Feli are on good terms in modern times. Relax.

Y - Fandoms in-law

My current close friends are into Baldurs Gate 3, Watch Dogs, Dishonored, Evillous Chronicles (Vocaloid), Utena and more. But these are the primary blorbo shows in-law.

Z - Rambling time

Okay if you've gotten this far down I admire your attention span lol thanks. I don't really have all that much to say that is concrete and comprehensible but I am thinking of PruMano and of warm days by the Mediterranean Sea and skies later lit in vivid shades of red and orange as the hot sun sets and the cities come to life. I am also thinking about them cuddling, which I do quite a lot.

A Mini-Fic About Laundry

Laundry is an unappreciated compilation in a shinobi’s life and no one understands that better than Hinata Uzumaki

The earliest days of her marriage were spent learning how to get blood and mud stains out of orange fabric, learning to line-dry Naruto’s mission clothes so the sunlight would banish the pungent aroma of Kurama’s chakra.

Then her washing machine filled up with cloth diapers, which her husband insisted he knew how to wash, yet time and again proved he did not.

He went on fewer missions in those early years, his t-shirts covered in globs of mashed peas or half-chewed strawberry spittle.

In the quiet years that followed Naruto’s appointment as Hokage, she got used to grass stains from Boruto’s scuffles and art accidents on Hima’s dresses. Dribbles of instant ramen broth on the white Hokage’s cloak turned out to be her most challenging stain.

When Boruto started at the Academy, she thought she was prepared to be a shinobi’s mother, but she didn’t realize how wrong she was until he came back from a field trip to Kirigakure and dropped his duffle bag beside her washing machine.

Long after both children were soundly asleep and Naruto spending another night in his office, she unzipped his bag and pulled out a white blood stained shirt. Her son’s blood.

It was the first time that her eldest child’s mission was reported to her through his clothing, though not the last: Pockets filled with sand, reeking of sewer, singed beyond all reason.

And the blood. So much blood. Sometimes it wasn’t his, too often it was. Maybe a harder woman would have gotten used to it, but every time she took a scrub brush to something her child bled upon, she cried.

Perhaps it would have been easier if she’d been prepared. If Boruto had sat down across the evening’s dinner table and described the horrors he’d been through, but instead he talked about his friends, their successes, and so many games.

When Kawaki joined their family, he wanted to wash his own clothing but Hinata insisted. It was her job after all to bear witness to her family’s pain through the hamper.

So, sweat stained pajamas joined her laundry pile. No wonder, given how the boy screamed during the night. She couldn’t help but wonder if a full breakfast and soft place to sleep would really solve his problems.

Two teenage boys under her roof, one silent and sullen. The other boisterous and hot-headed. Both personalities facades, hiding so much pain.

When Hima found a bottle of round black pills in Boruto’s room one morning while looking for a pencil sharpener, Hinata immediately called Naruto at work, something she never did.

He listened patiently to her concerns before waving her off. No. They weren’t recreational drugs. No. They weren’t habit forming. The only thing she needed to do was make sure Hima never went into Boruto’s room again.

That’s when she realized how little she knew about what went on beneath the round red roof of their cute little home, but she was determined to make it a peaceful place for the family she loved.

Then came the evening Kawaki disappeared and Boruto followed him. She stumbled out the doorway, two of Naruto’s shadow clones meditating on their lawn, and begged to come with him and save their boys.

But, no. Her job was to stay with the house. Stay with Hima. In case the unspeakable happened. Shikamaru would take care of her husband, while he took care of the whole village.

Fingers shaking, she combed through Hima’s hair as her youngest child fell asleep before going downstairs to do laundry, washing the underwear of the men she might never see again.

Determined to follow her regular routine, she walked Hima to the train that took her to the academy the next day, offering bland assurances that everything was fine.

Opening her front door a few minutes later, her heart jumps into her throat to see Naruto’s toeless boots and Boruto’s low cut sandals by the front step when she gets home.

Naruto!” she cries, rushing into the house and burying her face in his zippered-up shirt, inhaling the scent of her favorite laundry detergent.

“I told you it would be fine,” he says with a laugh, taking a bite out of a piece of egg on toast while Boruto chugs a bottle of milk from the fridge. “Kawaki’s under observation right now. I’ll let you know when he wakes up.”

She watches as Naruto picks up a trash bag and escorts Boruto out the door, their blond heads disappearing around the corner.

Breathing a sigh of relief, she goes to the hamper to find out what’s in store for her and frowns when she finds it empty.

Maybe they were just in a hurry. Hinata rushes upstairs and checks the bedrooms and Naruto’s office for dirty clothing balled up on the floor, thoughts of chastising her boys filling her head.

Nothing.

Chewing nervously on her thumb, she checks to see if Naruto had already started the washing machine… No, he hadn’t.

It’s then that she remembers the black trash bag her husband carried out the front door. Mouth set in a grim line, she walks outside and grabs the bag, feeling the squish of fabric, only slightly heavier than she expected.

Silly men. Why had they tried to throw their clothing away? Hinata Uzumaki can get stains out of anything.

She opens the bag to survey the damage and gasps.

Blood.

There’s just so much blood.

She pulls Naruto’s clothing out first, the front of her orange shirt soaked, flecked with bits of dark organ and pieces of flesh. His pants aren’t much better.

Hands red, she reaches into the bag and grabs black fabric: Boruto’s pants. They’re covered with mud and blood, but nothing prepares her for the t-shirt.

Ripped in half, more red than white, she holds it up, seeing the blood-soaked hole in the back side. Hands shaking, she grabs his jacket and looks in horror at the matching hole right beneath the spiraling Uzumaki symbol.

With a strangled cry, she grips her son’s jacket to her chest and begins to sob.

Break Open the Sky, a Tales of Symphonia ‘fic (Chapter 9)

Current Word Count: 65,066 Summary: What kind of “Hero” of Regeneration would she be to leave an infant to fend for itself? Someone had to have left it here for a reason. The question was, of course, why? But as she lifted the little thing carefully into her arms, the motion reminding her of nights so far in the past, now, the why seemed almost tragically clear: this baby was of mixed blood. Chapter Summary: Raine, Regal, and the children head to the Crestfield Orphanage. Pairing/Characters: Raine, Original Characters, will also feature Genis, Regal, and Sheena. Endgame is Regal/Raine. Extra Info: This is technically an Accidental Baby Acquisition story, but I liken it more to “Doorstep Baby” literature because it sure ain’t cute. Rating: Mature, for themes. Genre: Eventual romance, gen, family, character study.

If you're wondering why I'm using the separate Tethe'alla and Sylvarant maps btw, it's because DotNW doesn't exist in my brain and I refuse to acknowledge the map used there or in Phantasia in relation to this story.

I decided to marry the words tech-birds and rheiards because I thought it might be cool that the name they started out as ends up obsolete as a desire rises up to manufacture them with a catchier name. Yuan would be sooo so big brain if he did that. I went feral imagining Regal sending a yearly note to Yuan like "sell me one plz" and Yuan just always says no (and not always politely).

This chapter gives us a bit better of a peek at Regal as an empath. At least, that was my intention.

Sorry to put you on another boat, Raine, but at least Regal is trying to reassure you a bit.

I don't know what to say about Crestfield. I wanted to paint it as a place that feels quite opposite to Hima but not necessarily for the reasons you might have expected.

I couldn't model George after his drama CD personality because he's SUCH AN ASSHOLE THERE. I like the idea of George being a bit of an asshole, like it's fine if he's classist and racist the way he was in the drama CD, but it still has to make sense that Regal would value George's opinion and trust him to run the company in his absence after everything that happened.

I know a lot of people let Regal blame George for Alicia's death, and plenty of folks wonder why Regal doesn't take his anger/etc out on George, but the point of Regal's character is not the guilt he feels but rather his capacity for caring and for feeling things. Literally everything about this man screaaaams "empath" to me and I think he was too busy bearing the brunt of the responsibility of Alicia's death himself to ever fully blame George (who did apologize most sincerely in the game).

Also, Regal isn't stupid. George might have helped the tragedy along in the game, but that's all he did. To compare, in the drama CD he's outright a scumbag about it, saying things like Alicia poisoned Regal's mind and he had to fire her for it (+ outright hating poor people and helping Regal's father pay off/put pressure on voters). We also can't really forget that, completely separate of George, Presea's experiment was a success. You know they were going to get their hands on Alicia one way or another. George wasn't that big of a player in the event happening and I think Regal would know that, especially after the game events.

(Someday I might give my thoughts on the drama CD alone, but for now just trust me on it if you haven't listened to it.)

Anyway, George mostly means well in this one. He doesn't understand everything but he does want Regal to be happy.

I really felt compelled to make it clear that Regal knows Raine can't really take advantage of him (because he's the privileged one in their relationship and she's got a good heart), but understands fully that he could take advantage of her easily and feels yucky about it.

It kind of goes back to George, who so easily assumes Raine would be the one taking advantage in this scenario (because he is a racist and classist little shit, but in this house people are allowed to Grow) even though Regal is the one with the power.

Hard to get my thoughts down b/c I'm at work right now, but at least when it comes to writing nationverse, I don't pay attention to "age appearance" much other that a suggestion for describing what they look like. B/c like, yeah I get what Hima means by a character appearing 19 or 26, but it honestly doesn't mean much. I'm in my late 20s, but I constantly have people think I recently graduated high school. One of my friends that's the same age as me constantly gets mistaken as a teen. So age *appearance* to me doesn't mean shit when I'm writing fic, and it just gets used to bully people who want to ship or write rated M or E fics with Latvia or Liechtenstein

I'm 19 years old and I've had people think I'm my 14 year old siblings twin. So I hear you.

Rarely anyone follows canon to a T anymore and if you're like me who has only started to get into the manga in the last couple years, not many are going to know about the canon ages. Like up until now I thought Switzerland was 20 but he's actually younger than me at 18. Which I still refuse to accept.

Trust me, just because we see characters who are apparently minors as 18+ doesn't mean we aged them up just to ship them. Like me, perhaps you assumed they were adults for years, got into ships you liked with these characters only to realize now they might be a minor, but it's hard to see them as anything younger than 18.

In the Hetalia fandom, canon is but a suggestion at this point, canon isn't always accessible to people and there is so much of it to sift through. So please. Just chill. Block and move on if you need to.

I have siblings, that's how we behave with each other. But it's cool, just think the special relationship is mostly based on power and convenience nothing else.

Historically rusame doesn't work. I mean yeah, friends at first but then ideologies wreck it. How do you see those two? Historically I do enjoy my porteng and frain but for america it makes sense Canada or alone. I feel there's a quite lack of compromise in USA part. They want to take and their freedom is more important than any sort of relationship.

Woah woah woah I think you sent me like five ship asks in a row so let me just go through them one by one if that's okay! I'll do the France x Spain headcanons in its own ask but here let me run through some ship talk. As I should not need to clarify - I have my preferences certainly, and there are some ships which I cannot stand for one reason or another, but I have never been fussed about trying to un-justify why a pairing wouldn't work. Justify why it would certainly yes yes, but I am not your mother or any figure of authority and I am a big fan of the tag filter and block button, I encourage it with me if it keeps your dash hot take free. Crack ships, historical ships, human aus... whatever floats people's boats! Personally I am a big fan of unhealthy relationships that claw their way into functioning, so that will inform my understanding of the characters. That ain't for everyone.

Again, that's kind of the point for me - how do you reconcile two people who are in a metaphorical open marriage of convenience with the fact that maybe they have genuine feelings which are distinct from any political role they play, knowing that they themselves aren't political players. They can potentially have a history that runs directly contradictory the the popular narrative of international relations: what does that look like? I think a lot of people employ that dynamic within Hetalia ships - personally I use it with US UK the most, but they're all party to it.

That's cool and I can understand that angle! I have a brother and sister too and we get on like so painfully normally fine, so I always am a bit ???? when it comes to depictions of dysfunctional siblings in media. And that's the crux of it. Of course I see them as fraternal at times. It's really down to the story that the author - Hima or otherwise - wants to tell. The characters are immortal spirits. Tell interesting stories with them, the dynamics are intentionally left vague because it's fun to fill the gaps!

I think it works in the 19th Century because Russia was often quite friendly with the US, particularly during the Civil War, but only in regards to the Russian Empire A) Liking 'strong' centralised government over federalisation B) It is a land based Empire who does not want a precedent set for splinter sections of the country declaring independence C) Russia hates Britain. America for much of the 19th Century is a bulwark against Britain (and by extension Canada). It was never a particularly important or course changing relationship outside of Alaska, but I can see historic cause for saying you could make something up. A lull of near nothing between WWI and WWII of course. After that it's the tension of MAD etc...

Personally. I am not a fan. Not a huge fan of Ivan in general so... I skip it. But yeah, once Alfred supplants Arthur as the 'real' enemy, any chance of happiness fades. Unless you aren't bothered about something as trivial as happiness in a ship and enjoy carnage. Not for me personally but!!

Again I am not a fan of Canada and America... genuinely I think it's cause they are just too visually similar (for some I hear that's a perk...). But with every America ship you're gonna have fucked power dynamics. Doesn't matter who it's with. The eb and flow of influence will shift and depend on the other party certainly - some may be more openly defiant only to get shot down in flames, others may choose to try and be subtle only to find that Alfred doesn't do subtle. That's the fun in his ships I find. Can you have him in a romantic relationship where the scales tipped in his favour make everyday life just so utterly dysfunctional it's not worth the trouble?
