I don't know if you know this but it has been longed rumored that Mattel did low-key make a lesbian Barbie back in the 80s. They never came out and admitted it or say which Barbie doll it was BUT I am pretty sure it was the Kayla doll which is why in the surprise locket doll Kayla has a Barbie heart you can hide in her locket while all the other Barbies have Kens. Which is kinda clever because if that was her "coming out" doll technically, a lot of LGBTQ+ did hide it especially back then. There is a lot of controversy that surrounds Kayla. They would swap her race and hair color all the time. She started off with tanned skin and red hair and when she made a return for the surprise locket series she had brown hair. Later on they gave her a new face mold and supposedly they made her asian. They made her half-black during the fashion fever and than back to asian again. They came out with secret spells dolls and they gave her the red hair and green eyes back but made her pasty pale with the asian face. Kayla has always been very olive toned.

I had the Dance Club 1989 Kayla which is when I think they first introduced her and I had the locket surprise. I always made her Midge's sister and sometimes cousin. I think the problem was with Kayla and why they changed her was because she looked very similar to Midge.

Thronecoming at NRC Part 2!

For @sayuricorner��s EAH x TW AU!

A continuation of my previous Thronecoming post! This time with the new transfers and Heritage Hall! This takes place after the dance is announced and before the dance starts.

(It’s SUPER long so it’s under the cut. Enjoy!)

Heritage Hall (I forgot about it in Part 1, so I decided to include it here in Part 2)

After Heritage Hall appears in the Silent Woods by the school campus, Baba Yaga and the other former EAH teachers all petition Crowley to let them take the transfers to the Hall, as it is an important part of the Land of Ever After’s history.

Crowley allows them to hold a field trip to the Hall so that the NRC students can learn more about Ever After. He even allows the students at RSA and other former EAH students to come and claim their heirlooms.

When they arrive at the Hall, all the students are immediately taken in by the grandeur of the building and what’s inside. The EAH transfers approach their prospective heirlooms and happily show them off to their classmates:

Maddie’s is a new tea hat

Lizzie receives a new set of playing cards, with herself as the Queen of Hearts

Bunny’s dad gifts her a new pocket watch that will always return to her no matter what

Alice gifts Alistair a set of books about Twisted Wonderland’s adventurers and explorers

Kitty gets a cat shaped locket from her mom (which surprises her, as she thought her mother would leave her a prank. Her mom left her the locket after Alice disappeared so that Kitty would never forget her if they were ever separated.)

Ginger gets an enchanted cooking/baking set from her mother

Cerise’s is a electronic picnic basket with a mirror lock

Ramona’s is a new faux fur shawl from her parents

Jillian gets a pair of hiking spikes for whenever she goes climbing

Holly and Poppy both receive enchanted hair brushes

Coral also doesn’t receive one because she was going to enter EAH when she came of age. To her, the coral crown and pearls that Azul’s mother gave her is her Thronecoming gift.

Blondie gets a new pair of running shoes

Hunter gets a new polishing/abrasive stone for his axe

Ashlynn receives glass polish for her glass slippers

Raven gets the magic wand that her mother left her

Cedar receives the Revealer Rays from her dad

Cupid’s gift is a new bow and arrow that will only recognize her fingerprints (Her dad got her this after the whole love arrow incident with Hunter)

Rosabella’s parents gift her a magic hand mirror that will always show her home, the Beast’s Castle

Briar’s is a super-soft neck supporting pillow (she’s not thrilled about it)

Faybelle’s mother gave her an enchanted silver crown of thorns (The thorns are enchanted so that they won’t harm the wearer.)

Melody’s dad gives her a recording of a lullaby that her mom used to sing to her when she was little (She’s not dead! I promise!)

Duchess receives a music box from her grandmother

Daring and Dexter both receive new swords with enchanted shields from their father

Darling receives a new set of silver jewelry from their mother (Her brothers thought she would be upset about it, but Darling wasn’t since their mom put a lot of thought into her gift.)

Prudence and Charlotte both receive enchanted hand fans that will change color to match their outfits/dresses

Apple is unsure whether or not she should accept hers, since she is now estranged from her mother. Raven encourages her to open it, but she decides not to open it and just takes the box back with her.

Nina gets a small pair of wings made from flower petals (Inspired by the Barbie: Thumbelina)

Justine receives a new pair of dance shoes that will never wear out

Promposals (These are just my ideas/couplings. Writers can write about different couples if they so choose. Same with the previous post.)

Ginger, along with the rest of the cooking club, are asked to make some food for the dance, to which they agree to do. Trey also volunteers to help with the food preparation so that they can have an extra set of hands in the kitchen.

One night at the Heartslabyul dorm, Trey and Ginger are going over what they should make and they both decide to ask the other to dance at the same time. They both blurt it out at once and Ginger ends up fumbling. After calming down, Trey takes the chance to properly ask her to the dance and she accepts.

Meanwhile, Alistair and Bunny both want to ask the other to the dance too. One day, while hanging out in the school’s main courtyard, Alistair and Bunny ask each other out at the same time and fumble for a bit before both accepting each other's promposals.

If this takes place after Way Too Wonderland, it’s up to the writer who Courtly and Chase go with.

It’s also up to the writer who Kitty goes with.

Jillian could go with Cerise and the group or with another classmate.

If this takes place after Epic Winter, then Daring could plan to ask Rosabella to Thronecoming in the only way he knows how, in a very exuberant and over the top Daring Charming manner.

Rosabella actually beats him to the punch and asks him to the dance with a red rose that she got from the greenhouse while taking a walk through there earlier that day. Daring accepts the rose with an equally red face and wears it on his tuxedo when he goes to pick up Rosabella from the Pomefiore dorm.

Whoever Cedar goes with is up to the writer.

Prudence and Charlotte are unsure whether or not they should go, since they don’t have dresses. Ashlynn steps up and offers them two dresses that she had previously made when they were still at Ever After (see the webisode Ashlynn’s Fashion Frolic, the purple and pink dresses in the beginning).

The sisters are unsure whether or not they should accept, since it would look like they are still following their destiny and forcing her, but after some encouragement from Cupid, they accept.

Who they go with is up to the writer.

Now I know what my "grail doll" would be Barbie wise, anything Mattel counts, the Guardian Goddesses. I had the moon one with the black hair and like many toys she disappeared around the time my sister was born. Also not being able to afford the lion outfit incase 'the baby needed something' was the first distinct incident I remember of the age old eldest daughter with half siblings trope of being 'too expensive'.

Like all my dolls, especially the older ones, I like 'em open so I can play with them. Even her head would be a step in a healing direction because I can reroot it.

The only other doll that has a 40 year old hole in my soul is Darci's black friend but that's easier to deal with in a way.

Some of this is brought to you by Locket Surprise Kayla who I had to pass up because at the time I could only afford one doll a month, if princess replacement child got to do dance and beauty pageants the least you can bribe me with is a doll a month, and a 90s Skipper or Kevin would have been it.

I thought she was a Teresa with giant hair and a molded on suit, not gonna undress them at the store, got her home, the locket surprise girls have a heart shaped cavity in their chest. Remember that Arthur cartoon where you store your secrets in the doll's face?

Today I got to do some self care, at least in the hydration and nutrition department, and I want to look at my reroots and the fat quarters I have set aside for the Unoa Chibi. Hit Joann's while out yesterday and there is X-Ray Halloween fat quarters. It's in the running for coolest Halloween fabric ever!

You know, there’s a lot of talk about Earring Magic Ken and the accidentally gay design, but I’ve wondered a lot about Kayla. Maybe I’m just the only one who doesn’t know what was going on and what happened with her, but I never came across much info on it and I think it’s fascinating.

You see, in 1994 I had this Barbie from a line called Locket Surprise (I still do, she’s stored safely). I liked her pretty hair but her design was a bit unconventional. She had this sort of...locket in her chest that you could open.

You removed the lock and opened her boobs and there was a space with a mirror to put things in. She came with three accessories, heart-shaped like the space, to keep in there: lip gloss, blush and a photo of Ken. Here’s the commercial.

There was a Ken from this line, who came with a fragrance for Barbie to store, but he didn’t carry any photo. His box description said: “Ken has a special surprise, a fragrance gift for you and Barbie. Barbie thinks Ken is the coolest, he’s always so thoughtful and he dresses in the hottest clothes! Ken knows Barbie loves to share makeup — and she keeps a locket full of makeup surprises for special friends like you!!”. This is important, we’ll come back to it in a sec.

There was also a Christie (also referred to as Barbie although most collectors call her Christie) who came with the same set as Barbie and a photo of Steven (also called Ken). There wasn’t, however, a companion doll Steven.

So far, we’ve got a theme going on. It’s a bit strange though that Ken doesn’t have a photo of Barbie.

Now, this line had another doll, who was introduced for the line and who had a couple alternative names, she was mostly known as Kayla (in other versions she was called Alexia).

Kayla came with the same set as Barbie, the makeup hearts and the photo heart secret. But Kayla’s secret heart photo was of Barbie.

In the box where she was introduced, it said: “Barbie has a new friend, Kayla! Kayla has a locket filled with makeup surprises to share with special friends like you! Not only does her locket hold real makeup, it’s perfect for keeping a picture of her friend Barbie. Kayla and Barbie always share secrets and dreams...and makeup”.

It’s a bit particular that Kayla’s description was more in-depth than Ken’s in terms of her relationship with Barbie, the whole sharing “secrets and dreams...” thing. That was illustrated in the box by showing how Kayla and Barbie exchanged their hearts, which fit in each other’s chest-spaces.

The promotional pictures also had Barbie and Kayla in the center, with Ken on the side (and on discount in this one lol).

Kayla doesn’t show up much in Barbie history later that I know of, but there are blogs more qualified than me to offer good info. Her name was re-used by a toddler doll later on, unrelated to this one, and she’s mentioned to have appeared in the 2000s briefly, maybe under the name of Lea? but idk where exactly.

The point is that, to me, Kayla was gay, whatever Mattel’s intention had been, thanks for coming to my ted talk.

has mexican ancestry on her mom’s side. doesn’t know her dad. was raised with spanish catholic principals n found it all very stained glass windows and extra n that’s why she was kinda drawn to the decadence of vegas and all these massively high key aesthetics, like dia de les muertos was her fave thing growin up just bcos the pure feel of the festival and painting a sugar skull on her face n being able to party on the streets in a flower crown where everyone was kinda anonymous but together in this celebration

in boulder city her mom worked as a carer as there’s a lot of retirees there. mimi really resented the slow pace of life, longed for some fucking energy n life. she was a cheerleader in school but outside of school there wsn’t much to do except practise stunts and go on bike rides. occasionally they’d get dressed up and catch a bus to henderson, the next biggest city for them to get tht sweet night life

her teenage years consisted mostly of hanging around the renovated motel blocks used as housing projects n tanning by the pool. very florida project if you’ve seen that. she reminds me a lot of the mum in that. also she started working as an avon rep going door-to-door when she was 16 bcos she wanted to have her own income. like as young as 14 she’d decided she was smart enough to go to college but she didn’t have the money n her family didn’t really see it as a worthwhile thing, her mom was very like the mom from matilda “you chose books.... i chose looks!” which i think is where a lot of mimi’s more shallow / appearance-driven traits come from

wasn’t really ‘cool’ until high school. before that she was a bit of a lisa simpson type. won a spelling bee when she was 9. was in the mathletes squad in middle school. when she went from middle school to high school she started cheer and tried to reinvent herself basically. always been very concerned with social mobility and keen to socially climb, like when she enters a new situation she’ll find out who the alphas are and quickly try n befriend them

values: the aesthetic !! literally loves the aesthetic so much. everything she owns is super embellished, she’s a pop socket gal, her dell laptop is covered in glitzy stickers, she always has acrylics n probs makes nail art videos on tiktok. really tuned into tiny details like painting a little hello kitty above her eye which translates into her degree when she’s doing small-scale mockups of town plans n stuff... she jst puts so much detail into them. ppl often get surprised when she tells them she does architecture but it makes so much sense bcos she grew up in a trailer park n was always thinking about ways the space could be more efficiently used, like she loves re-conceptualising neighbourhoods, definitely spent hours on sims as a kid. she also grew up near hoover dam n so loads of school trips they just took them there n she was like.... this is tight but it could be cooler.... where’s the passion....

im makin her sound like a really bad person but hopefully she’ll be somewhat likeable she can be very charismatic and endearing and she’s naturally quite funny. also now she’s finally in college and doesn’t have to worry so much about money she actually allows herself to party n bcos she denied herself of it for so long she kinda makes up for it by going p wild like will be the girl climbing on to stage to crowd surf at gigs or doing a summersault off the bar and being escorted out by bouncers, thats the energy were looking at, pure dionysian hedonistic impulse

really gd at talking her way out of shit like parking fines. so good at being an ‘im baby’ girl and often dumbs herself down to figures of authority to appear less like a threatening ball-breaker and more like a confused fiat 500 girl who didn’t know red meant stop she thought it meant slow down

Frisk’s nose was bloodied in a mild injury while they were climbing the mountain. They were lucky not to suffer any further injuries from the fall into the underground.

Chara’s heart locket is upside down to represent a monster soul.

The existing spike traps have been modified by Chara, and they also replaced the leaves with more spikes.

The water was safe to touch, but Chara would not have appreciated Frisk swimming in it.

Frisk claimed the date is September 15, 2112. (This is a callback to Undertale’s launch date: September 15, 2015.)

The furniture pieces in the Dreemurr’s old home are huge because the boss monsters are enormous.

The pie was not poisoned; it was perfectly safe.

Chara’s position in front of the Delta Rune painting is a callback to the prophecy.

Frisk’s eyes turn yellow when they use their powers of determination -- reset, reload, or save.

Chara remembers what has happened across reloads; they simply feign ignorance at the start.

Chara had the ability to save/reload until Frisk’s power overrode their own.

Frisk played little league baseball, which is why they have a strong swing for a kid.

Frisk is left-handed. Chara is right-handed.

Chara installed the gate at the first bridge in Snowdin Forest.

When they were running from Chara, Frisk tripped over a tree root.

Interlude: Rewrite

Chara is 14 years old, and Asriel is 16 years old.

This interlude takes place a year after Chara fell down into the underground.

Unlike canon, Chara decides not to carry out their “buttercup plan.”

Chapter 02

Asriel wears a heart locket in the shape of a human soul.

The two lockets are matching “best friends forever” lockets.

Asriel has a large scar on his left forearm. Asriel’s fire magic is weaker on his left side.

Asriel is right-handed.

Asriel turns his eyes red to look intimidating. It’s a scare tactic.

The black markings on Asriel’s face are natural fur markings inherited from Toriel’s side of the family; they are not from absorbing human souls.

Chara missed a meeting with Muffet; it was not a date.

The date on Chara’s phone is October 27. (This is a reference to the day Caretaker AU debuted.)

Chara doesn’t consider Asgore and Toriel as their parents.

The monster behind the Snowdin Town sign is the librarian lizard.

Grillby is a child. His mother Barby Q. named her establishment after him.

Dogamy and Dogaressa still wear a picture of each others’ faces. This time, the prints are on the back of their uniforms.

Interlude: Patience

Chara is 15 years old, and Asriel is 17 years old.

This takes place a year and a half after “Rewrite.”

The original spike traps are much shorter and not as dangerous.

Despite living in New Home, Asriel and Chara took Ribbon Kid (aka Patience) to the closer hospital in the city of Home.

Chara is not lying when they said they didn’t know anything that could help Ribbon Kid.

Night and day are mimicked with artificial light. Electric light illuminates the cave during the day, and at night, the glistening stones look like stars on the cave walls.

Chara’s eyes turn yellow when they are filled with determination. In this case, they saved.

Ribbon Kid died naturally due to their injuries, which included internal bleeding. Their death was coincidental. They did not hear Chara ask them to die.

Ribbon Kid was abandoned on Mt. Ebott by their mother.

Humans cannot absorb human souls, so Chara can hold and carry them.

If a monster handles a human soul, they may accidentally absorb it. A specialized container is required to store the soul.

Chapter 03

New Home has artificial lighting that gives it a reddish-pink hue.

Chara has their own set of human-sized furniture in the Dreemurr’s home.

Frisk did not break Chara’s leg, but they did bruise it badly.

Asriel’s position in front of the Delta Rune painting is a callback to the prophecy.

Chara is planning to sacrifice themself to Asriel as the seventh human soul to break the barrier. Because they only have five souls so far, they need Frisk’s soul too. Unfortunately, Chara did not reveal all of this to Asriel in this timeline.

Chara had tried to convince the Dreemurrs of their plan, but they never agreed to it. Chara would reload the timeline after each unsuccessful attempt.

Memory: Bonds

Chara does not have a good opinion of siblings, and they do not see Asriel as their brother. Chara insists that being best friends is superior.

Chara and Asriel wear school uniforms. The garments are unisex.

Interlude: Power

Chara is 16 years old, and Asriel is 18 years old.

It’s been half a year since Ribbon Kid passed away.

Gaster’s life was cut short by his experiments. Additionally, the only human soul the monsters had is gone.

Gaster and Ribbon Kid are not in the void. The void doesn’t exist.

Chara and Asriel do not share a bedroom at this point.

Asriel was lucky enough that someone tossed out a nice computer.

Before asking Asriel for a favor, Chara saved.

Asriel could not bring himself to take Chara’s soul because of fear.

Chara came back from the dead by loading their last save point.

Chara had been inadvertently creating save points when they were filled with determination.

Chara does not try the buttercup plan again. They plan to guide Asriel instead.

Chapter 04

Frisk has two adoptive mothers: Giselle and Ji-min.

Frisk snuck off to pick flowers in the mountains, and their moms died in a car accident when searching for them.

Frisk’s full name is Francis Hope.

Instead of going back to foster care, Frisk ran away to Mt. Ebott to survive.

Frisk found the hole leading to the underground and got too close to the edge. The ground beneath them gave way, and they fell in.

When Chara was about to stab Frisk, Frisk grabbed the knife with both hands and turned it upwards.

Despite being mortally wounded, Chara still attempted to slash Frisk, but they missed.

Knowing they were as good as dead, Chara wanted Frisk to take their soul to Asriel.

Memory: Edge

Chara is 16 years old, and Asriel is 18 years old.

It’s been half a year since Chara discovered their power.

Chara was surprised that Asriel could jump so high.

Chara loaded to their last save point to undo Asriel’s memory of seeing them fall.

Instead of jumping off the building again, Chara shows Asriel the view after loading.

Asriel experiences déjà vu when Chara is about to approach the edge.

Bonus Comics

Chara and Asriel are a married couple in Asriel’s birthday comic.

Chara and Asriel were married when Chara was 23 and Asriel was 25.

Chara is considered royalty.

Chara does not use the “Worn Dagger” aka: “Real Knife.” Instead, they use a knife Asriel gave them on Chara’s 18th birthday.

Asriel and Chara tend to wear matching or similar clothing.

Every single thing I noticed and felt while watching Taylor’s LWYMMD music video

By now I think it’s a fair assumption to make that you have already seen @taylorswift ‘s new video for Look What You Made Me Do (it had over 39 million views in the first 24 hours). If you’re like me you may have rewatched it about 13 million times trying to decipher all the hidden meanings. If you’re not (cool) like me, you may have just watched it once and wondered: “what on earth did I just see??”.

Lucky for you I’ve decided to document my entire emotional journey through the 4:15 video. Disclaimer 1: many of these theories are my own opinions or theories I’ve read from other fans. I do not pretend to understand the entire genius of T-Swift. Disclaimer 2: I am a 100% biased Taylor Swift fan and therefore this analysis is 100% biased with my love for Tay.

HERE WE GO

Ok, opening scene. Spooky. Fits the soft but slightly creepy lullaby intro. Honestly thought we might be stepping into Hogwarts.

Here is one of the first of many “TS” we will see throughout the video.

For anyone who has been following Taylor the past year, this is a pretty clear reference to the online hate Taylor received after being “exposed” by Kim Kardashian (note: she was in no way exposed). Trolls began to fill social media with “RIP Taylor’s career” and “Taylor Swift Is Over Party”. It is a fitting place to begin the video.

Does that dress look familiar to anyone? It appears to be the same dress Taylor wore in the Out Of The Woods music video (the last video from the 1989 era...symbolic right?).

What is that on the tombstone behind Taylor? Nils Sjoberg. This was the alias name Taylor used when she helped write Calvin Harris’ “This Is What You Came For” (he later appeared to be less than happy once Taylor started receiving credit for the song).

We now see the old Taylor that Zombie Taylor is burying. This Taylor is dressed the same as when Taylor attended the Met Gala in 2014 (marking the beginning of the 1989 era). Here we literally see post-1989 Taylor burying pre-1989 Taylor. *tears*

Taylor transforms from the graveyard into this beautiful scene. Several things to point out here. Taylor is almost literally drowning in jewels. Perhaps alluding to the media’s perception of Taylor being money obsessed? If you look closely, we also see a single dollar bill lying in the bathtub with her. Most likely referencing the symbolic 1 dollar Taylor requested in her countersuit against a former radio DJ who sexually assaulted her (Taylor won this case). Finally, and this may be a stretch but notice on the floor to the left of the bathtub what looks like a heart shaped locket? It’s possible this is the same locket that Calvin Harris gave Taylor for their 1 year anniversary. Wow. Brilliant.

ENTER SNAKES. We now get all the snake references we could ever need (also clearing up the snake video clues Taylor teased just a few days before releasing LWYMMD). The snakes themselves are a reference to the hate Taylor received after the Kim/Kanye blow up. Haters filled her Instagram and Twitter with snake emojis implying that Taylor herself was a snake. Looks like the joke is on them now. Also notice the subtle, “et tu brute” on the chair? We see this several times in this scene, of course referring to the betrayal Taylor has felt from people she thought were her friends.

And Snakes! Check out Taylor sipping on her tea that she now gets to serve up. It’s her time to tell the story and she’s doing it with this BA Salazar Slytherin look.

The golden car crash. This is an interesting scene because it has many interpretations. My gut reaction was Katy Perry. The feud is well known and Katy added fuel to the fire by releasing her song “Swish Swish” that was meant to be a dig at Tay. I think she looks very much like Katy here with the sunglasses and the short blonde hair. Notice she is even holding a single Grammy (something that Katy Perry does not have). However, it’s also been pointed out that this may also be a Kim Kardashian reference (which I will discuss later).

A further analysis of the car crash shows the paparazzi taking pictures after Taylor crashes. Perhaps symbolically saying that the media loves to see Taylor suffer and fail?

Two things to note here. 1) Jaguar? Your guess is as good as mine. 2) The cute little guy is wearing a golden 13.

Next, we find Taylor in what looks like a giant bird cage. Wearing orange to perhaps symbolize that she feels like a prisoner at times? We also see a snake tattoo on her right leg.

At this point in the song, Taylor says “and threw a feast”. This could be a reference to KP’s song Bon Appetit. But it is unclear. Also, notice the rat on the table? Yeup just thought I’d point him out.

Now, this is a fun scene. Tay is robbing a currently undisclosed location. The cat masks could be a cute play at Taylor’s love for cats. Or could be another hit at Katy. Either way, it’s a great scene. Her sweatshirt reads “blind for love” as we know Taylor frequently referred to herself as a hopeless romantic.

We are now introduced to biker chick Taylor. It might seem a little out of place at first. But remember when Taylor got hate for her Bad Blood video apparently ripping off of Britney Spear’s Toxic? This very well may be alluding to that.

Absolutely love this part. We now see what Taylor was robbing. A streaming company. Of course. After the backlash, she got from leaving Spotify and writing her letter to Apple this scene makes perfect sense. Side note: absolutely adored Taylor’s letter to Apple. You go girl.

What is Taylor doing dictating what looks like an army of life size barbies? This is a reference to the “squad” and the comments Taylor received that her friendship circle was more like a cult of freakishly perfect looking women as opposed to a genuine group of friends.

Which of course leads us to the falling out of the squad the media claimed happened but didn’t.

Taylor enters the mansion. As soon as she enters the room the men immediately step up to do her bidding. As if Taylor is their commander and they must obey.

This is our first glimpse of the mysterious airplane Taylor. We only see short glimpses of her but she seems to serve an important role. She perhaps represents the real Taylor that neither the media nor the fans truly get to see or understand fully.

The boys are back. 8 of them all in line (apparently something only Beyonce is allowed to do if you ask Twitter). She could be representing her past relationships and the scorn she received for each one. Fun fact: it’s Taylor’s back up dancers from the 1989 world tour!

The I <3 TS shirt. Tom Hiddleston wore an I <3 TS shirt while dating Taylor. He got mocked and Taylor got called manipulative for “forcing him to wear it”. Taking a wild guess here, but pretty sure Tom makes his own wardrobe choices.

This is our first real glimpse at the “Reputation” era Taylor. She’s dark. Her hair is slicked back. And she looks like she is 100% done apologizing. She is standing on top of a mound of the “old Taylors”.

Shoutout to Fearless era Taylor with the iconic 13 on her hand. What a gem.

This is one of the best shots in the video. A look at the past decade of Taylor. How many Taylor’s can you spot?

More snakes. Side note: You can actually buy this snake ring on Taylor’s merch store. Taylor now reveals to us the most anticipated line of the song. “I’m sorry the old Taylor can’t come to the phone right now. Why? Oh, cuz she’s dead.” This line brings the entire song together as well as the symbolism of Taylor wiping her social media a week prior to LWYMMD release. The old Taylor is dead. The haters have killed her.

Taylor breaks it down with her backup dancers to some pretty great choreography. I like to think of this as shade to all the people who made fun of Taylor’s dancing abilities. Our girl can dance.

Annnnnnnnd boom! Our Jaguar friend is back. Still unsure what he represents but he’s pretty cute.

SNAKES

Let’s pause to appreciate the adorable wink Tay gives us here. Reputation may be a darker album than we are used to but Taylor is still the light-hearted girl we’ve always known.

Wow, she’s like Super Woman.

This is one of the best views we get of the mysterious airplane Taylor. Who are you???

We finally come to the last and most important scene. 15 Taylors. 14 lined out in front and one back on the airplane. There just so happens to be 15 songs on the new album reputation...coincidence?? Also, notice TS6 written on the end of the plane? Subtle genius.

You Belong With Me Taylor is precious. She’s so happy and genuinely surprised that she has accomplished all that she has. But everyone hates her for that and will drag her down until she no longer will show that much genuine and pure happiness at an award show again. Also, recognize that shirt from the YBWM music video? Only now it’s slightly different. This time it has real names of Taylor’s real friends you might recognize. Like Selena, Ed, and Jack.

As the scene continues we see Shake It Off Taylor mock YBWM Taylor for being surprised all the time. Mansion Taylor calls Zombie Taylor/SIO Taylor a b**ch and Zombie Talyor responds with “don’t call me that!” Alluding to Kanye calling Taylor this in his song “Famous”. In real life, Taylor responded by making a very strong statement against Kanye’s words during her Album of the Year acceptance speech at the Grammys later that year.

A particularly heart-wrenching scene. Fearless Taylor tries to calm everyone down but gets shut down by We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together (Tour) Taylor, calling her a fake. We see the young innocent Taylor begin to cry. The young sweet girl who got stomped on by the world for making music about love. It is sure to elicit a few tears.

“There she goes playing the victim again”. Taylor is literally beating the haters to the punch.

Met Gala Taylor Asks Katy/Kim Taylor what she’s doing and she responds with “getting receipts...gonna edit this later.” This could be interpreted in two ways. If this is meant to be Katy, it could be referencing the song “Swish Swish” where Katy claims that “karma keeps receipts”. Or if it is Kim, it would be naturally referencing the snapchat videos Kim perhaps “edited” of Kanye and Taylor’s phone conversation. Side note: it is illegal to record people without their consent in certain states, Kim.

Finally, we see 2009 VMA Taylor who had been interrupted by Kanye West while she was accepting her award for Best Female Music Video of the Year. She quotes 2016 Taylor by saying “I would very much like to be excluded from this narrative”. Which all the other Taylor’s and symbolically the world respond with...

“SHUT UP”. Here Taylor is telling us that no matter what she does or doesn’t do, she will be judged. It isn’t fair but it is something she has accepted. She will no longer be providing any explanation. There will just be reputation.

Birthdays.

As he walked Aleu back to where he and the others normally stayed, he tried not to think about his past birthdays. Especially not the worst one. He really hoped nothing bad would happen this year. He sighed and opened the door, not even thinking as he turned on the light.

“SURPRISE!” He jumped back in, you guessed it, surprise. His siblings, plus that Cody kid and Mark, had all jumped out and shouted at him.

“Wha?” He managed to choke out.

“Happy birthday, Jake!” Shane beamed. The others followed suit in shouting the phrase. The room was covered in green decorations. Green fairy lights, green paper chains, the food was even green! He mouth fell open and he tried to say something, but ended up mouth fishing. Tears weld up and his knees threatened to buckle. Luckily, Mark ran over and steadied him.

“Whoa, hey. It’s okay, sweetpea.”

“What-” He rasped, his voice going hoarse from emotion, “What is this?”

“Your birthday party, silly!” Duck answered. “We have cupcakes, cake, key lime pie, greenish brownies, lime kool-aid, and lots more!”

Crystal smiled from behind the DJ booth. “We also got one of these. After the party, we’re gonna have a movie marathon with all your favorites.”

“So, what, like, two movies?” He joked, but his voice was still weak.

“Funny. Actually, since we ended up sellin so much lemonade, we bought a bunch of your old favorites. And a VCR player. Because most of them were on tape. So, we have, like, a bunch of Barbie, Scooby-Doo, ‘The Princess Bride’, ‘Erin Brockovich’, 'Brother Bear’, 'Unaccompanied Minors’, as many 'Home Alone’s as we could find, we even found 'A Few Good Men’! And 'Coraline’! Cryssy said you might like that one.” Tabitha said, grinning up at him.

“Yeah, yeah!” Tailor shouted. “It’s your birthday present!”

“We even have a special present for your Golden Birthday! Just like Mom would have!” Duck shouted gleefully.

“How did you know about..”

“Shaney told me!” Of course.

“We also found C.Ds of Mom’s old music. We made you a mixtape. Even got you a Walkman cassette player for it and those old fashioned headphones.” Crystal said. “So, without further ado..” She grinned and started playing “Barefoot Blue Jean Night” by Jake Owen. Mark smiled at him.

“May I have this dance?” Jake looked up at him, his eyes about to spill liquid joy, and nodded.

“Yeah. Of course.” His voice was barely a whisper now.

About an hour later, they were all still dancing and comversing. The twins had all but devoured the brownies, only a couple were left, Cody was teaching some alien dance to Duck, he was blushing too, Jake would have to ask the boy about that later, Tabitha was dancing with Tommy, his grey eyes shining bright as she clapped and said “Go, Tommy, go, Tommy”, Crystal was looking for which song to play next. Unbeknownst to Jake, Mark glanced over at her and made a silent request. She nodded and the familiar tune played. Mark pulled Jake close and softly sang the lyrics to him, his breath ghosting over the shell of his ear.

“Once a lad, meet a lad. “You’re a gentle one, said he.” A light gasp escaped Jake’s lips. He buried his face in the other’s chest. His eyebrows knitted together when Mark put something in his pocket. He pulled back slightly, still staying in Mark’s arms, and pulled out the little light green box. His eyes widened and he looked up at Mark. “And in my heart, I’d be glad, if you loved me for me.” Slowly, he looked back at the velvet box, and, even slower, he opened it. The peridot gleamed on the golden band. The two diamonds on either side of it sparkled joyously. He couldn’t stop the tears of joy this time as he read what was engraving, “Mon cher Jacob Abbott, je t'aime au-delà des mots.”. Oh, Mark..

“Je t'aime tellement. Ne l'oubliez jamais.” He whispered. “Alors, que dites-vous, mon amour?”

Jake whispered back, “Est-ce même une question? Bien sûr!” Mark grinned, Jake finally noticed that his cheeks once again matched his hair. And that most of the lights were now off, save for the fairy lights. His whole family was made up of saps.

“I hate to interrupt the two love birds,” Crystal started, startling said love birds, “but I believe the kids have a gift for you too.” The kids dragged her out from behind the DJ booth and shoved the present into her hand.

“You give it to him!” She smiled softly and walked over.

“Here.” She handed it to him. It was a slender gray box with a red ribbon on the lid, really only there for decoration. Curiously, he lifted the top.

“Oh, my..” He mumbled, lifting up the locket. On a delicate gold chain sat a beautiful golden locket and against it, a tiny gold heart with a peridot on it. “Oh.. Oh, you guys..” Crystal pulled him into hug. Mark smiled and went to go set up the movies.

“I love you, big brother.” She whispered.

“I love you too, little sister.”

“Happy birthday.”

And for the first time in ten, now eleven, years, it really, truly was.
