neuvillette's lore is actually insane. we all took one look at him and went "haha dragon🫵" but i significantly underestimated how big of a role he would play. he's the incarnation of the original hydro sovereign. he took back his rule right under the heavenly principles' nose. he's the one handing out hydro visions now (not even because he has to, he doesn't, he just grew so fond of humanity that he chooses to). he gave away the hydro gnosis bc he straight up doesn't need it. he's planning to DETHRONE ALL OF THE ARCHONS (in a few hundred years, when the traveler's not around to see it, so it won't be awkward for them). he's kind and soft-spoken. he's full of vengeful rage. he's a father to hundreds. he found his purpose after feeling lost for 500 years. skirk pulled him aside for a super-secret convo and when he saw us again he immediately spilled the tea. as far as i can tell, he spawned into existence fully formed. no other character can fucking compare

Live Action Last Airbender really said in order to get rid of the sexism, some other sexism had to take its place but unlike Sokka learning sexism was bad, the new sexism is never addressed and treated like its okay.

Awake and giddy and trying to calm down after completing what I think may accidentally actually be a decent conference paper, a few short hours before I need to present it—some thoughts on the things that have kept me entertained and sane while on necessary breaks from writing! writing this on my phone so there’s no read-more, apologies.
reading
having a very good time alternating between after Sappho, selby wynn schwartz, and an angela carter short story collection called the bloody chamber. both very ~feminist~ but in ways that are subtly distinct—you can tell which came out in 2021 and which did not—but both so interesting. I think I may DNF this other unnamed spy-urban fantasy, unfortunately, which sucks because the premise was good, the execution is just very grating. assorted other libby holds include italo calvino’s the baron in the trees, ty @morrak and carmen maria machado’s in the dream house.
listening
yws gwynedd and the resulting welsh pop / rock mix on 24-hour lockdown repeat. it’s been extremely good to me, high energy, low engagement, except I’m also getting better at listening comprehension slowly but surely, there’s no downside. Stuck in my head currently, perpetually:

the first episode of d20’s starstruck odyssey, which despite all the potential for getting bogged down in new mechanics and bad stats and dysfunctional team dynamics was really lovely? It is filling the sweet spot right between being in the mood for fantasy high and being in the mood for Neverafter, and plus I like! just getting to hear them play! I also watched the first few minutes of disn*y’s strange world on this airbnb’s d+ account, and will hopefully be able to go back—I was looking for something I could have on in the background and ended up getting interested, so, task failed successfully! I also watched, and slept through, amsterdam (2022) on a plane recently.

fallow week. shoutout to the game I tried with friends a few weeks ago and forgot to mention, genesis noir, which was so gloriously atmospheric and moody and interesting, right up until it was slightly too buggy and/or unintuitive to get past the first fifteen minutes or so. though that could have been the fault of the internet connection, which had been slow that whole night and did crash immediately thereafter. we laughed ourselves to absolute fucking tears over gangbeasts again, afterwards. but I’m still thinking about the celestial noir vibes and hope to get back to this one soon.
making
fallow week! making plans and achieving them, making memories and taking pictures, making virtual friendships into realities. making more homecooked meals, hopefully, now that I have real kitchen access! making some professional connections??
working on
the last week has been all about either working on said paper, or getting a mental refresh by getting as far from it as possible. it’s been hard to get back into work mode after some of these full days off, but also, I did budget my time and I *did* put enough in, early and often, that by the time the eleventh hour came around it was possible to actually finish. i don’t think i could have gotten to this version, which i’m pleased with, with any less effort—but spending all day thurs at the library, working in the morning or an hour before bed, or between lunch and dinner tonight—and a lot of time the week prior—it all added up. it all contributed something. this is my memo to myself: the long boring slog leading up to the exhilarating last minute is just as necessary. it helped that I have other (dissertation-based) uses for every idea and sentence and quote I had to cut tonight, and I still think this paper is stronger without them.

It really confuses me how all the reviews on After Death are like “yeah you go Tim! Get out of there! Self care!” Like the complete opposite tone of what I was intending. I wrote when I was blisteringly hurt and angry after being ghosted not once but twice by my coworkers to present a project I’d worked hard on. I was mad and I wanted to write a tragedy to project that grief.
Because that’s what I see that story as, a tragedy. I can’t read it over without feeling that grief and anger coming back. Tim is convinced he is unwanted and completely severs ties to the Batfam. In one sense it is better for him, lowering the stress and expectations but he directly states he would rather live alone than to only have half affection and that is... not a great state? Tim doesn’t do well by himself so in the short term it may be a relief its the start of what I predict to be a downward spiral of Tim flying solo without a net.
Bruce allows it because he thinks its what Tim wants, doesn’t really understand that he’s supposed to fight for his kids. He and Tim have always had a somewhat distant partnership, there always was some paper thin layer that prevented them from fully embracing as parent and child. Bruce is devastated, Tim is depressed and they let each other go bc they’re so similar they cant see the mutual cries for help.
Dick is not handling the situation well. He doesn’t cope well with loss and had been so busy with helping Dami and Jason that he let Tim slip out of his mind. Not to mention he’s still feeling the aftershocks of the Battle for the Cowl and was more than inclined to give Tim his space only to realize it was too much. Now once again he’s looking up and Tim is already gone and the bridge he always intended to build has turned into a chasm he can’t hope to cross.
Dami is feeling immense guilt, sorta correctly identifying his previous bad behavior as being responsible for driving Tim away. Distance has given Tim some clarity and he really does his best to soothe Damian but it’s not going to do much for Dami’s guilt. He drove his predecessor out of the family, had in fact become so comfortable with degrading and dismissing Tim that Dami is now questioning all of his forward progress in a way that’s really gonna haunt him.
And Jay, Jason is the only one with enough outside perspective to see this all coming. The other Bats are definitely resentful at Jason (and also Alf) for not bringing the issue up sooner even though it’s not up to them to tell the Bats to care for one of their own. Jason really does admire Tim for breaking away but will soon see the spiderweb of cracks its going to cause in the overall health of the family. He tries to establish a bond with Tim as a friend and not a brother until it becomes too awkward to ignore all the stuff that went down.
This is a Bad End AU, one written in anger and from an at the moment desire to cut off all the people I had worked so hard for with no reward. I’m glad people liked it and that people interpreted it well it’s just so fascinating to me because I just read it and feel such a heavy loss.

Tim was already gone'#There is no relationship repairing here#they're not quite strangers#and Tim does sorta try and establish himself as a friend/mentor to Jay/Dami#but god its so awkward#the other heroes watch the batfam like slowly implode and crumple from within#god idk im so sad about it#anyway hi i did not mean to type so much#just rereading some of the prompts and i feel like crying

#i feel sooooo proud for someone who's 21 and should know how to use excel better#ramble#basically i had like. a graph. showing the dependence between the angle of light polymerization and sacharose concentration#it was in a report i had already submitted but the teacher said it was shit and among other things i had to add the equation and R^2 to the-#-graph. which like ok no big deal. so i did it rn and im all happy#but then i look at the graph. already pasted into ms word and all. and i look at the values. then the equation#and im like what the fuck#cause the dependence was like e.g. 5% sacharose to 3.9 angle. or 20% to 13.7#and the trend line equation said y=62.028x+0.3484#??????#how the fuck#i searched through google and nothing. re-did the line multiple times. nothing#guess what. guess fucking what.#turns out since i wrote the concentration in % it interpreted the values as percents. so 0.05 instead of 5💀#fixed it and voila#but bruh💀 i didn't SET the values as percentages i just wrote them in stylistically and thought it wouldnt do anything bc it never does#it also took me way too long to figure it out (like 10 minutes) but im so bad at tech this feels like a victory

So. Today's episode. I actually quite liked it. Spiritomb is one mean bitch (affectionate) and I am here for it ngl. Also Ash, please please use your old pokemon- the journeys team really isn't up to competitive standards yet, as can be seen with how well Pikachu did compared to the others 😭
#wow look at me i actually have nice things to say about rhe episode#i love Cynthia's battle style#and you can really see her backing ash into a corner#all his old pokemon watching and being supportive got to me i love them#ive seen some complaints in the videos comments about how easy it was to take down gengar and dragonite#but honestly i think it tracks#cynthia is tough (in my opinion deserves the title of unbeatable champion instead) and ashs newer pokemon just arent on that level yet#but this does feel like a victory he will have to earn#ash know the pain we all felt when fighting her in the games lol#im vaguely intrigued for next weeks episode now to see how it goes down once spiritomb is out of the way#ash should really invest in a fairy type on his team tho#pokeani spoilers#pokeani

Note ₊˚⊹♡ : The first year trio are watching Gojo who is completely head over heels for you.
To the world, Gojo Satoru is the strongest but to the people who know him Gojo Satoru is a menace.
When he was in high school, he was a different breed. Yaga could not sleep at times from all the stress Gojo would cause; be it either an earful from the higher ups or checking the news only to find out there had been an explosion conveniently where Gojo’s mission was assigned.
Sometimes he would get pictured sent to him by the problem student himself, a picture with a beaten up enemy and Gojo winking at the camera with a note saying ‘Yay~ another victory! I mean it’s as normal as breathing for me (*ᴗ͈ˬᴗ͈)ꕤ*.ﾟ’
Even when Yaga would use his authority and lecture him, sometimes Gojo Satoru would not listen; be it simply ignoring or rebutting it with his opinion— an opinion no one asks for.
And when that happens, Yaga would pull out his secret weapon ‘You’! He didn’t use this card all the time but at time Gojo was simply so uncooperative, he had to! Any word coming from you would be listened to by him as if it were law. Right now, at the age of 28 he seemed to have matured- no stopped acting as childish and Yaga didn’t have to rely on you so often.
That same Yaga watches from the window at his new first years— Kugisaki Nobara, Itadori Yuji and Fushiguro Megumi— behind a bush, hiding peeking over to you and Gojo who were on a bench.
“Ah…” Kugisaki sweat dropped at the pair. “Gojo-sensei is so smitten.” She said observing at how you were simply reading a book, as Gojo yaps away but one thing very obvious was the gentle look he gave you.
When you finally looked Gojo’s way, their white haired teacher suddenly stops, they notice a faint blush peeping under his blindfolds and when he does starts talking he stammers. THE Gojo Satoru was stammering, biting his tongue simply because you were looking at him.
“Kugisaki, let’s leave.” Itadori covers his eyes, his right eye peeps through the cracks of his fingers. “Sensei is doing such a bad job at flirting with y/n, I’m getting embarrassed.”
Kugisaki lifts her hands and grabs the collar of Itadori’s and starts shaking it. “This is the closest we’re getting to romance in this school and I want to be the witness.” She grits her teeth.
Just then Nanami walks along the path, making the pair look over. You smile as you call out. “Nanami-kun.”
Nanami stops and waits as you stand from your bench, walking over to greet him. The students stare; as soon as you got off the bench and walks Gojo follows suit not even a millisecond later.
Kugisaki cringes. “He is like a puppy…”
