Even Better
Summary: Rhea meets a friend.
So my Greek myth wip got a title, Clip Your Wings, and I decided to celebrate by writing an amnesiac R.K.'s first meeting with Hermes for @flashfictionfridayofficial's prompt. She's confused, but she's having fun.
-_-
"Well, that was a fine speech you gave."
Rhea nearly stumbled over a root at the sudden voice. She hadn't been listening to the world around her, trying to figure out what to do. Circe, from what little she could remember, wouldn't go down easy, and Rhea was pretty sure she couldn't just walk up and demand Levi be returned to human form. She needed to be smart about this.
"Hello?" she called, looking around. A chuckle answered her, sweet as honey. It sounded familiar. "Is...someone there?" Did Circe have guards? She reached up, gripping the handle of her sword.
"Just a friend," the voice sang, sounding just ever so closer. "Who saw a pretty girl and figured she needed some help. After all, Circe is not to be messed with. To get past her..."
Crack.
Rhea whirled around, yanking out her sword. In an instant, the tip was caught by...by...
"Mercury?" she mumbled out. The voice had sounded like his. Before he could answer, she shook her head. "No, no, you're someone else."
Mercury was blonde with cutting-grey eyes. This god had dark curls, his eyes shadowed by the helm of his hat. It did not hide his smile, sharp as a blade, but somehow endearingly fond even as he yanked on the sword, pulling her forward.
It did not block what he felt like.
Mercury had felt like standing on a rushing train, stiff and awkward with Roman customs, leaving Rhea unsure of what to do or say even as he gave her that creepy jewelry set from Jupiter. This god felt like rushing through the sky, knowing that she could easily fall to her death...
And loving it.
"No," the god, in a whisper like they were plotting together. He tilted his head back, revealing gorgeous emerald eyes. Rhea felt her entire being warm at the fond look. "I'm even better."
She could believe it.

Today I learned that the interpretations of Athena being a vengeful deity against Medusa and Arachne were because of One guy; Ovid who because he was not a fan of authority. His versions are found in Ovid's Metamorphis. Before that Medusa was a monster from the very beginning. Where as Arachne was fully boasting about being a better weaver than the god of weaving so like, pride check you into spider womanhood.
So finding this I feel good about gender neutral Athena leading the charge of throwing Zeus out of olympus story >:)

Hades and Persephone retelling except it's-
Fuck you, I'm tired, I'm doing "a Persephone Who Eats Humans, and a Hades who Sucks Souls and they're living in Thessaloniki and Shiraz in 2080, and Demeter is coming in with a whole-ass army"

Happy Diwali to everybody who celebrates it :D I did a quick Apollo sketch.
Diwali is the festival of lights, celebrating the return of Ram after 14 years of exile by his father.
Apollo would absolutely adore this festival.
Also, fun fact: Diwali always falls on a moonless night according to the Hindu calendar (which is why there is no set date for Diwali in the Gregorian calendar and it changes every year)
I headcanon that Artemis takes an off day in order to spend time with her brother on Diwali :D

bad comic concept for the Circe arc of Mystic Odyssey, featuring angsty Mikey and Leo in a Coma :)
I have so much shit I still have to write for this story. so fall all I got is Circe, Ithaca, and Iliad (Not the whole war yet tho, still working on that) but thats because those three parts have Mikey the most and I'm biased. I swear I'll get to it

Thoughts about the male gods of the six eldest in my WIP-
Hades looks like a mix of Kronos and Rhea, with his mother's dark hair and his father's golden eyes. His eyes are much more lively than his father's eyes though, and are a touch gentler. His children mostly inherit the golden eyes that resemble the gold he owns.
Poseidon looks like Rhea, with inky dark hair and deep blue eyes. His eyes have changed over the years to be more sea green. His children all resemble him, excluding Triton who resembles Amphitrite, but he doesn't mind that much. Someone had to get her lovely features.
Zeus looks like Kronos, with blonde hair and golden eyes. He changed his eyes to be sky blue to look like his mother and to honor his position. He's fiercely jealous and insecure over his features, to the point that his children look more like Poseidon or Hades then they do him.

Excerpts from a random Greek myth retelling I've had in mind for a few months. There's only the thinnest vial of a plot so far, but I wrote a couple scenarios I thought would be funny or interesting (half of them will probably have to go) but it is so unhinged I couldn't not share
Note: these are all from Ares's POV
“ ‘As the protector of young boys, I hereby declare Hermes a young boy, which makes it my duty to protect him!’, Apollo yelled. ‘Hey!’, Hermes protested, but Apollo was already slinging him over his shoulder and heading for the exits. Good riddance. Ares was getting tired of having the spikes on his sword stolen.”
"Athens should have picked Poseidon. Except they were currently in the process of fighting Poseidon, in the ocean, so forget he said anything, actually."
“You know what? Forget the war. He would move to the south pole and become the god of penguins.”
“But if he knew his mother at all, which he did, he knew she was definitely not above doing something so despicable. She’d thrown Hephaestus off mount Olympus when he was born because he was lame and ugly, and yes, his brother was in fact terribly ugly, and Ares had definitely contemplated throwing him off a cliff before, the guy was mega annoying at the best of times, but still. Not Cool, mom.”
“Well, Hera, he was tempted to say, if you didn’t keep ruining their mothers’ lives, maybe they’d be nicer to you. Not being suicidal, he held his tongue.”
“He was tempted to throw the horseshoe in his face, but he doubted the gesture would be appreciated.”
“Hestia was everyone’s favourite aunt. Unfortunately, he would have to drop Poseidon in her hearth, which was an unforgivable insult to her pride above all else. He felt no remorse for throwing Poseidon in a giant fire place, though. The guy’d been getting on his nerves all week.”
“Thanatos was a workaholic. Why couldn’t the guy take a vacation for like, a month or two? He said this out of concern for the guy, of course, but he wouldn’t argue it would be nice if his soldiers didn’t keep dying.”
“Athena threw her shield in his face and bolted for the door. How was she the smart one again? The shield broke in half on Zeus’s forehead, and he roared in anger. Ares darted after her.”
“Persephone threw the bouquet in Hermes’s face. Hermes screamed, which, valid. Persephone throwing anything was scary.”
