I'm going to send shit tons of asks about the lost avatar au so be prepared.
Anyhoo, how old are the gaang? And why did sokka and katara go out to find aang? And what are toph and zuko doing? Is zuko still on thr hunt? Is toph still with her parents, living her double life?
And be prepared to me answering them all cuz I will and I shall >>>>:3💥💥💥
The story is setted up 1,5 years after Aang breaking the ice, so the gaang are one and a half year older, about to finish the second year. I know Sozin's comet came in the first year but in this one it'll come later, about a year or half a year later.
Sokka and Katara going out to find the Avatar is actually quite normal in this universe because just like what Zuko was doing in the OG show, the Avatar is actively hunted because no one thinks he actually vanished and finding the Avatar is like catching the Bludger in Quidditch. Whoever gets him will have him on their side(!)
The same exact things happened to Toph while leaving her house in the AU but this time she was alone in the whole progress. And her meeting with the Gaang will be together with Sokka because they met first in the swamp first XD!!! While Aang and Katara are a duo alone, Sokka and Toph are their own duo on the other side till they meet again💥💥💥
Zuko is hunting the avatar just like in the OG but this time, he has Azula with her. They are not on the same ships or routes but they keep crossing eachother's routes. And in this AU I executed all the family drama for many reasons. First stuff I'm not a fan of family dramas like that and I wanted Azula and Zuko to be comedically rivals on their journey, knowing when to team up or fight eachother just because when given the chance.
Tumblr media
Zuko is not on the exile neither is Azula, but going out to world to capture the avatar is a commonly given generational mission to princes and princesses who are not a ruler yet to learn more about the world, explore, and learn so many things along the way of catching their one fast golden ticket the avatar. Ultimate honor
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ursa is still in the castle and doesn't has any issues with Azula neither does Ozai with any of kids and they're pretty chill with eachother aswell, another reason why I threw away their family business is because the focus of this AU is NOT THEM!! The focus are other things and I am pretty much more fond of the nice fire family who is nothing like that OG, this is my AU don't @ me!! I like this so much better this way

I don't remember if you ever explained this or not, but what's up with Tanguish saying he is killing Tango? I am guessing it is something to do with the skulk?
I know I've talked about it before, but it's probably been scattered across a lot of different shortfics [and talked a little bit in chapter 2&4 of the whole Redstone and Skulk fic in a somewhat blink-and-you'll-miss-it way].
I'm going to go ahead and lay the concept out in full, but like, warning: spoilers for all of the helsmit fics and shorts [Wels/Hels, Tango/Tanguish, and Ren/TheRedKing]
So in my little set of universe, helsmits au... Stuff... Basically the universe doesn't like that the hermits make helsmits.
Helsmits are made when hermits start to face a dark side of themselves, an inconvenient truth, or a dichotomy they don't like. For Wels/Hels, it's their idea of knighthood. Wels is the idealized white knight, Hels is the gritty, holding to your tenents even if it means killing people knight. They are a clash of ideals, and by definition both think the other is Being A Knight Wrong. Together they encapsulate the idea of "Sometimes to do good, very evil things are justified in the process."
For Tango/Tanguish, it's toxic codependence. It's being alone because you're sure of yourself/a little introverted vs being alone because you're self-isolating/filled with social anxiety to the point it's hurting your friendships. Together they encapsulate the idea that you can genuinely care a lot about someone and still be toxic, and that care and toxicity can be mutual. Humans weren't made to live in tiny 2 person isolated groups. We can, but there's a lot of angry psychology that tends to happen when we do.
[Ren and Red are a bit fuzzier. I never really hammered them out. Mostly it's Red thinks Ren is a coward for handling 3rd life the way he did, and Ren thinks Red is just a scary jerk. Something something appreciating the life you're given, something something remember your mortality something something friends make our short lives worth it. It was very hazy and existential I was coping with things when I was outlining those]
What happens when the hermits face these issues is, eventually they get past them. And since the hermit was there first, that generally [9 times out of 10] means the hermit grows as a person and moves on, and helsmit stops existing. It's like a physical incarnation of the "growing and changing through the plot" thing that happens during most character arcs. I wrote a short [Voices of Hels? I think it was called? Something like that] where Cub talks about absorbing his hels version and that's why his skin changed from old man to young dude. I used to have a list? Of hermits that didn't have hels versions anymore? I think Zedaph and Doc were on that list. And Gem. I need to find that list again. [In my funny little world I also justify Xisuma having so many helsmits (Evil X and Evil Beezuma for example) because he basically runs from his issues for so long he fundamentally changes as a person, and this he makes a new helsmit wholecloth once the previous issue no longer applies. I also feel like there are probably circumstances where a helsmet can disappear and then reappear later in life when someone faces an old or similar problem again. (Well well well if it isn't the consequences of my actions back again-- [gets tackled by my evil clone]).
For Wels/Hels, Helsknight has pretty solidly accepted his fate is to disappear into Welsknight at some point. His biggest goal until that happens is to, basically, make Welsknight strong enough to actually do good in the world. It's not an altruistic thing. He things Welsknight is weak, is a bad knight, and represents the kind of slothfulness that happens when you live a relatively carefree life. He makes Wels miserable on purpose, because he thinks that's the only way it'll make him stronger. And if Welsknight is strong enough to do good in the world, then hey, Helsknight can disappear into the aether knowing he didn't die for nothing [I feel like you kinda have to have a martyr complex on some level to be a good knight, RIP all the knight characters I've ever written].
For Tango and Tanguish though, Tango isn't trying to be a better person. He's not trying to get over his codependency and social anxiety to reconnect with his friends. He's feeding into is isolation bad habits, and in so doing, is feeding into Tanguish. If he keeps going at the rate he's going, someday Tango will collapse and stop existing, and Tanguish will be the only one left standing. Tanguish doesn't want this [he is just as codependent on Tango as his hermit is on him] and he's also starting to figure out he doesn't like the self-feeding cycle of never having contact outside of each other. He's decided he's going to break their cycle by forcing Tango [and also himself] to branch out.
In Chapter 4 of the Redstone and Sculk series, where Tanguish corners Helsknight to ask him for help, and Helsknight says stuff about "how rare it is that one of us wins", that's what he's talking about. Tanguish could be the last man standing and he's actively choosing not to. Helsknight, who doesn't think it's physically possible for him to win against Wels, thinks it's really, really stupid that Tanguish would just give something like that up.
So! Yeah! Hope? That answers everything? Clears things up? Most of this was supposed to come out either:
A) In the next couple chapters of Redstone and Sculk
B) When I finally got around to writing that Wels/Hels body swap fic I started writing and then stopped writing because MSH is my baby right now and I can't focus on two things at once

Vigilante AU: Okay so, if he convinces the League of Villains to go Vigilante instead, are Shigaraki and Kurogiri amongst the ones who do so.
For some reason, I can't put question marks in the Tumblr askbox on the Desktop version of the website.
Yes!!!
Okay okay oaky so like.
Firstly, Izuku absolutely Power of Friendships the fuck out of them.
But also
Kurogiri, within my AUs, is a little easier to get on board. Like, this is CC-adjacent so how I write him is similar to how I write him in that. So he doesn't trust AfO for shit, and really isn't down for the villain stuff. But he does it through a combination of his reprogramming, having nowhere else to go(and probably getting killed if he tried to leave), and deciding that Shigaraki is his son now and he won't leave the kid behind(AfO would def hunt them down if he tried to leave with the kid).
So when given the opportunity to go vigilante instead of Villain? Kurogiri is down for that.
Shigaraki is a harder sell at first. But that's where the Dad for One plot helps.
When AfO finds out that Izuku is his biological child that inherited his Quirk, he basically replaces Shigaraki as who he wants as his apprentice/successor. Don't get me wrong, he still plans to use Shigaraki as a pawn in his plans overall. The guy makes a good villain, don't want all that work to go to waste. Plus the extra bonus of "Nana's grandson" gutpunch.
But Izuku already having a body that is capable of handling the Quirk nonsense that Shigaraki would have to be experimented on to get? Not to mention that since Izuku is planning to take the fucker down, he's playing along with the 'haha I'm so vulnerable and desperate for a father figure and just found my bio dad this is great sure I'll do whatever you say please manipulate me it'll be easy!' thing.... AfO just switches pretty immediately to Izuku being the 'favorite'.
Which. Shigaraki is initially jealous of. But that tiny voice in the back of his mind that was aware things were fucked up kinda activates and he starts to realize how little AfO actually cared about him, how he was just a pawn to be manipulated. (further helped by Izuku wanting to save him and also the rest of the LoV finding out more about Shigaraki's past and going 'hey that's fucked')
It takes him a while to really unpack things, but with that knowledge he's a lot more open to others, especially Izuku, trying to help him. He'd stay back on the whole 'vigilante squad' thing for a bit, but eventaully he'd help out(that small part of him that is still Tenko and wanted to be a Hero comes back out once he's away from AfO's influence)

20 Questions for fic writers
Thanks for the tags for this @theearlgreymage and @wellbelesbian. I'm so slow at responding to these sorts of posts. Also, this one is going to be a little tricky, as I only have the one fic up on AO3, so I will be throwing in a few stats from my original novel, 'A Survivor's Revenge', as well.
How many works do you have on AO3?
Currently just the one, 'The Trails We Blaze'. But there is also ASR, my long term original novel, that I'm going to be focussing on again in November.
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
TTWB currently has a published word count of 20,059 words, with a total of 68,238. (the will only continue to grow - there's still so much of the original plot of El Dorado to adapt for this AU!) ASR on the other hand is already a monster. Before I split the original draft in two to make the first two books, the draft came in at around 130k, incomplete. Currently, the first book is sitting at 78,278 words.
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Just Carry On. It's also the only fandom I read fanfic for.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
I'm still shocked by how well Trails is doing after only a month or so of posting, so thank you thank you THANK YOU for showing this fic so much love. 1,247 kudos is more than I thought the fic would ever get in its entirety, and we're barely scratching the surface of this chaotic journey.
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I've loved replying to comments on this fic. It's so nice to know that the fic is resonating with people, and what everyone enjoys about the chapters. I especially love when people pick up on lines from canon, and even mention things I didn't consciously notice when I was writing that reference canon. And just getting to nerd out about the research that's gone into this fic. Anyone who knows me IRL knows how much of a classics nerd I am (unsurprising given I have two degrees), and it's been fun flexing those muscles again. It's also been wonderful seeing what resonates with people over here on tumblr when I share snippets of ASR for WIPsDays. Everyone in the CO fandom has been so supportive of me sharing those snippets, and I can't wait for the day when I get to share Lauren and her story properly with the world.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Trails is unlikely to be especially angsty (I haven't actually planned the ending, but if we're going by the ending of El Dorado, there's likely to be a happy ending. But I don't know, it's a mystery to me at this point!) ASR on the other hand ... Book 1 and book 2 have especially angsty endings. Where the series as a whole is concerned, let's just say I made myself cry when I wrote a line for a scene from the final book. It'll be multiple books of build up for a gut wrenching finale. Only one character is guaranteed to survive from the entire cast. You have been warned.
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
None so far, but it's likely to be Trails. Only time will tell!
8. Do you get hate on fics?
So far, no. Everyone has been so so lovely with feedback about ASR and Trails!
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
I am an aro/ace bean who's not really experienced much, so whenever I try to write smut I struggle due to lack of practical experience (that's such a clinical way to put it, but brain no work right now, so that's the best way I can think to phrase it). But if I ever do write anything considered smutty, I try to focus on the emotions and sensations rather than the act itself. I love to read fic where the emotional intimacy is front and centre, but won't turn my nose up at reading some really raunchy debauched sex. As someone who's questioned her sexuality multiple times since first coming out I've lived under multiple labels before finding the one that suited me. Grey ace, ace bi-romantic, demisexual bi-romantic, I've thought all of them fit me at one time or another. It wasn't until last year that I realised dating wasn't working for me, it never would work for me, and that was ok. Aro/Ace isn't a zero sex/zero emotions identity, it's a spectrum in itself, and I've finally found something that suits me. Back on the topic of smut I write, I haven't written anything smutty for Trails yet beyond some heated kisses and heavy breathing. Maybe some rolling of hips. But I will be taking that M rating to its limit, don't you worry! As for ASR, again, nothing majorly smutty has been written, at least not what I would consider majorly smutty. Just a lot of emotional pining, and a bit of foreplay that starts to lead somewhere, and then DRAMA.
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
Back when I was first getting into creative writing (we're talking pre-teen/very early teens Jess, before ASR was even a vague concept), I wrote fanfic without even realising that's what I was doing. It was just a self insert series of stories that crossed over with multiple franchises, as well as straight up stealing plot points and tropes from other franchises. Will I tell you what they were? Absolutely not! And they will never see the light of day, because they are absolutely God-awful!
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of, and I hope that never happens.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
No, but I'd love it if someone ever wanted to. For ASR especially it would be incredible to see it translated and reach more people around the world. Seeing published authors announcing translation deals is something I aspire to!
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Not technically, but I suppose you could call Trails and Art-Collab fic, because Ashton's art is fucking fantastic!! Whenever I get to posting day and I wake up to see an art DM from her I get so excited! The style she's gone with for this fic was something we talked about for a while and she's just excellent at capturing the images and emotions I hope my writing is portraying. Ashton is a gem, and I am beyond lucky and don't know what I did to deserve her as a friend!!!
14. What's your favourite all time ship?
SnowBaz have been an obsession since mid-2021, and they show no signs of relinquishing the top spot in my heart when it comes to fandom ships. But it'd be remiss of me not to mention my OC's here. Lauren and Mike are my chaotic, dramatic, hopelessly and cluelessly in love MC's for ASR. You know how Baz pines in CO ... yeah, we're talking similar levels, if not slightly above that for Lauren and Mike. One of my favourite messages from my alpha reader was 'How in the hell did these idiots ever think their feelings were platonic?', and honestly, I don't even know. AND I WROTE THEM!
15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
I'm working on an epic high fantasy saga with a friend that we describe as 'Japanese mythology meets J R R Tolkein'. It's so fun writing with someone else, as we both have different strengths. Nori is very much at home with the darker elements, the world building, and character development, whilst I love writing the character relationships, romances, and political manoeuvrings. It's just difficult when you're in different parts of the country, and both have other WIPs you're working on. Maybe one day this saga will see the light of day.
16. What are your writing strengths?
I used to think this was a weakness, but since working on ASR edits I think I've become better attriting action sequences. At least, the comments on Trails have led me to believe this. I hope. Since writing that opening chase scene through Southwark it's really bolstered my confidence. But I think my main strength is dialogue full of banter and flirting. Give me a chance to have two characters in a room just bouncing off each other. No need for dialogue tags, just back and forth dialogue. Flirty dialogue is some of my favourite to write, and both SnowBaz and Lauren and Mike allow me to do this in spades! I also think writing pining is a strength, but that is a double edged sword that can cut the wielder if not used sparingly. Pining is great, when not overdone, and I'm praying I've not overdone it with Trails.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Action and intimate sequences are still aspects of writing I struggle with, and I'll tell you why. Pacing. Pacing is my nemesis. I just want to get from point A to point B and move on to the next scene. I know first drafts don't have to be perfect, but yeah ... pacing in certain scenes within first drafts is my biggest struggle.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I had to work out how I was going to tackle this for Trails with the most recent chapters I've been writing. HOW DO YOU WRITE A LANGUAGE THAT DOESN'T EVEN EXIST, AND IN YOUR FIC HAS BEEN DEAD FOR MILLENNIA? Atlantean has been a pain to try and work out, and I'm still figuring out a way to write the language itself in dialogue. I really want to try and get some actual Ancient Greek in here as well at some point, so if anyone wants to help translate some riddles and prophecies for me, hit me up! I'm a bad Classicist and never learnt any ancient languages!
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Published: Carry On The secret ones I'll never show anyone: that knowledge goes with me to my grave.
20. Favourite fic you've written?
Trails is my only published fanfic, therefore it is my favourite. But also I love the source material (both 'Carry On' and 'The Road to El Dorado) so much. But my favourite fiction I've written, out of all the original ideas and bad fanfic, has to be 'A Survivor's Revenge'. These characters and their story have been on my mind for the last fourteen years in some form or another, they are my babies, and I don't know what my life would look like without them in it. Lauren is my favourite morally grey chaos gremlin, and I'm so glad other people like reading about her whenever I share snippets.
Ok, so tagging. I have no idea who has and hasn't done this already, so I'm sorry in advance if you don't want to do this/already have done. Just think of it as me saying hi and how much I love the work you all do!

what do you think akane and touya's life together would have been like if she had been able to go to sekoto peak?
Oof, so this is something I've thought a lot about, and maybe someday I'll even write an AU for it (assuming I ever finish the fic I'm working on now).
In an idealistic world, what would probably be the most mentally healthy thing for them to do would be to give up on their dream of becoming heroes. Touya could let go of seeking his father's approval, and channel his rage and pain into art, something that all of the world could see, that proves he exists and exists for a reason. And while Akane isn't good with people in any universe, she could use her self sacrificing and protective instincts (what Dabi calls her tendency to take in broken things, like himself) to work in animal rescue in some capacity, maybe even training service dogs.
But, even in a world where Touya lived, neither of them are ever in the best mental state due to everything they've been through, and both of them are too stubborn and determined to give up on their goals once they've set them. Touya would still want to prove himself, and Akane would still want to find out what actually happened to her mom. (Spoilers for my own fanfic because it'll be a long time before I get there so whatever, but it's All For One related, and her mom was basically involved in a situation similar to some of the plot in the Vigilantes manga. And AFO also stole her quirk and put it in a Nomu, so that'll be fun once I get around to the Paranormal Liberation War arc)
I've got a lot of sort of disjointed thoughts on this though, so bear with me for a bit, lol. I think that in a world where he lived, she would almost not make it to him in time, but something would make her realize that despite what was going on with her family the same night, that she needed to go find him. She'd find him crying under the tree and either the area under his eyes would have already caught fire, or his whole body would have just erupted into flames. She'd get there, see him, grab him, and dive into the water he had tried to get to on his own. He'd still suffer from some rough burns that he'd definitely have to go to the hospital for, but I think seeing her show up could have jolted him out of it enough for the flames to die down before the water douses them completely.
I also think given what almost happened to him, and the fact that she did lose her mom that same night, Akane would actually admit her feelings for him, and tell him she loved him. Which, while it wouldn't fix things for Touya, it would maybe help him heal and realize that he shouldn't have to fight for Endeavor's love/attention so much.
That event would scare both of them enough that they'd start trying to reevaluate their training techniques, and since Enji only ever taught Touya how to burn, they'd make it a priority to try to figure out how to turn down Touya's flames in case something like that happened again. Maybe even going to Rei, Fuyumi, and Natsuo for tips given their ice quirks. (Also maybe discovering Touya's latent ice quirk sooner? We still don't really know what's going on with that in the manga, so we'll see.)
Akane would probably be able to convince him that he should look into support gear to help him stay cool and not burn himself as much (not really sure if there is support gear that could help that, but fuck it, it's a fanfic), that unlike what his father thinks, it doesn't make Touya any lesser for needing it, it's just that others have an unfair advantage.
With Touya not dying, I think Rei would have improved a lot faster in the hospital, and given how apologizing to his mom is one of the first things Touya thinks of when waking up after his coma in the manga, I think they'd write to her/go visit her a lot more. Touya and Rei could start having more honest conversations about their life at Akane's urging since she never got to have that relationship with her own mom. And because of that, I think Touya would realize how much of a monster his father is sooner, even if deep down he still craves that approval, he'd see how Enji's behavior isn't ok and none of them ever deserved what they went through. Which would make Akane and Touya try to make looking out for Shoto a priority. Even if there is still a bit of that jealousy there, Touya would be able to see past it and see how much pain Shoto was in.
Akane would probably try to reach out to someone, maybe even All Might since Endeavor hates him so much, to tell them about what Endeavor was putting his children and wife through. I'm honestly not sure if that would result in the kids being taken away from him (I do think the HPSC and the courts would just ignore any evidence of abuse though) or Endeavor changing at all. But maybe All Might would start doing wellness checks on the Todoroki's at least.
Akane and Touya would still probably go to U.A. and similar to the rooftop trio, they'd want to follow through on their promise to start a hero agency of their own together. With Touya learning to want to be a hero for himself and his family along the way, instead of chasing the Number One spot and status like his father.
Akane's father would still die her first year at school, and she'd probably still see Vlad King as a mentor figure, whether she ended up in 1A or 1B. So her experience there would be a bit similar to what it already is in some ways. Though instead of living in a U.A. dorm set up after her father's death, I can see Fuyumi and Touya petitioning their parents for her to live with them, and for her to share a room with Fuyumi.
I can see both of them being highly critical of hero society as a whole once they become Pros, maybe not enough to join the League or anything like that, but enough to try to change things from the inside, at least for a while. Ultimately I'm not sure where that would put them by the time we get to current events in the manga, but those are some of the basic ideas I have.
There would still be a lot of difficult times for them, sleepless nights, some bouts of suicidal ideation, tough battles, and that sort of thing, but they would absolutely be happier. They'd definitely be one of those insufferably cute couples that would burn the world for each other. Even if they are heroes, that still doesn't make them the best morally in some situations, and they'll always choose each other first before anything else, even at the cost of innocent lives.

A Bit of Organizational Stuff
So the last time I made a post like this there were about 20 of you. And that was a week ago. And now there's like 50 of you. And my first Team CIRRRRH vs José post blew up far bigger than I ever thought it'd go. Aaaaa is the best way to describe what's going on in my brain right now as I try to wrap my head around this.
Speaking of wrapping my head around things, I've now got two longer form AUs I'm posting about! Which is more than I'd been planning to have occupying my brain at the same time! I don't plan on neglecting either, so here's what I've decided for the sake of my own sanity:
For the Sea Monster AU: I'm going to commit to posting it once a week! It's currently the only one AU I have with a linear plot already in mind, so writing and editing takes the most time. And given how I have a tendency to do my writing in bursts (thanks ADHD), it's probably better for me in the long run if I leave the writing for it on the weekends. So I'm introducing Sea Monster Saturdays! It'll be a set posting schedule that I'm going to try out and see how it goes! I'll let you guys know if it stops working out and if plans will change again. I will say that I have Part 4 roughly outlined so it should be out tomorrow with all going well.
For the Alley Cats AU: I'm probably going to end up making a separate post with details on what each Alley Cat did to get outcasted. Alejandro's is definitely going to be first, and after that it's just going to depend. I also might try figuring out some way to visualize what the alley itself looks like, mainly because I just think that'd be neat. I don't have any other concrete Wacky Shenanigans that happen aside from vs. José that I've already done, so we'll see what happens there. I plan to focus most of my non-weekend energy on this AU until I've got everything out.
I'm also still going to have stray AUs floating about here and there! My mind tends to wander, so I might as well let it do its thing from time to time. These AUs are going to be more one-shot in nature though since I'm fairly certain a third long form AU would destroy me. But I always reserve the right to come back to them and make them long form should the mood strike!
The next AU I'm going to be posting about rather soon is actually one of these that I came up with literally the same morning I came up with the Alley Cats AU. I got like 75% of it written and was ready to go home to finish and post it but nope, I was struck with Team CIRRRRH brain rot. So I might as well get this one out before going all in on Alley Cats and Sea Monster.
And again, thanks for all the support so far!!!

hiya i feel like ive seen you mention the sweeney todd au but. sitting here kicking my feet. if u would like an opportunity to rant abt it please take this as one -kai
oh hi!! yes i've mentioned it a few times mostly bc i was desperately trying not to make wilbur a barber LMAO. i'll be so fr, im probably never writing this thing forrealsies, especially bc there are so many details and storylines i do not feel like figuring out, so i can just tell you like. everything under the cut. it'll probably be a little jumpy bc i don't have any of this info actually written anywhere it's all in my mind lul.
WARNINGS: cannibalism, murder, abuse, suicide
it's basically just like. wilbur is sweeney. quackity is mrs. lovett. 13 years prior, wilbur was sent to prison by schlatt for "treason" and a bunch of bullshit political stuff bc well they had beef. a little bit before this, sally disappeared and wilbur claimed she left him, but he actually murdered her (do not know the reason yet, and if i did i forgot) and the only one who knows is quackity, but wilbur does not know that quackity knows. also wilbur definitely ate sally in some way bc well i always liked the idea the wilbur ate sally in canon. she's just a human instead of a salmon.
so it's 13 years later, and wilbur is getting off a boat with this guy tommy who has been helping him (which btw wilbur and tommy are MUCH closer than sweeney and anthony, they're besties instead of like. awkward mentor and semi-student), and wilbur plans to go back to his old home to see what remains while tommy goes to do some fucking thang idk. and wilbur ends up finding quackity, who has opened a burger shop, and tommy accidentally runs into schlatt, fundy, and tubbo and almost gets in a fist-fight with fundy. also in this au schlatt semi-raises fundy but is kind of a shit semi-dad and everyone around him is just miserable. ignoring like 90% of the johanna plot Except the simple fact that wilbur has a kid who was given to someone he fucking hates and now he wants to get him back.
tubbo is basically toby but if toby was schlatt's right-hand man instead of random fake italian guy. also wilbur's first kill is eret, who actually came to him trying to make amends/help, but wilbur thought was trying to out him to schlatt, so wilbur like. panic-murders eret. and has a bit of a freak out about it bc he's murdered someone before (his wife lul) but it haunts him and now this does too. but quackity's just like Bro. Free meat. This goes crazy. bc it's basically the same plot of like, meat prices are crazy, quackity can't afford it, and this is the perfect solution to his meat problem and wilbur's killed someone and has a body problem. also quackity used to be part of the manberg cabinet but when he finally broke things off with schlatt for being constantly disrespected both as a partner in politics and fiance, he was basically defamed and kicked to the curb and had everything taken from him so he had to figure shit out which is how he ended up in the position of burger shop owner in wilbur soot's old place.
also wilbur and quackity obvious tension but it's like that "im probably nonbinary but ive got a job so i don't really worry about that" but wilbur's like "im probably attracted to quackity but i've got a lot of people to murder to get my son back so i don't really worry about that" and quackity's malding about that a little bc he is definitely in love with wilbur but it's fine he gets one thing he wants and that's a functional fucking business, he can figure out the wilbur shit later when wilbur gets his stupid son back.
but yeah. wilbur murders eret, which starts a spiral spurred on by quackity being like "objectively you should keep killing people so i can run my business thanks man", and the rage he carries from his life being taken away for nothing, and the violence he has always carried since he murdered sally. idk if tommy's gonna know? i haven't thought about tommy enough in this au tbh and that's bc he is Completely different than anthony so i have to fucking think about it a lot. bc he's not going after fundy like anthony was johanna, he's trying to help fundy bc that's wilbur's son and wilbur's his best friend so he wants to help him save his fucking son. but fundy is also conflicted bc he genuinely cares about schlatt, as they've all genuinely cared about schlatt, and he's like a father to him.
also tubbo does NOT trust wilbur's ass. he's very fond of quackity, from memories of his childhood and quackity at schlatt's side, trying to protect tubbo, and the way quackity welcomes him with open arms when he gets the fuck out of there after tubbo hits his breaking point with schlatt, but tubbo thinks wilbur is kind of like the worst. bc he doesn't realize until it's too late that quackity is also kind of like the worst.
i haven't thought a lot about the middle, just bits and bobs, mostly the beginning and the end. i have the ending planned beat for beat pretty much.
the ending, basically, is that wilbur has tossed schlatt down the murder chute or what-fucking-ever, and quackity watches him die. he sort of just like stands there and watches schlatt choke on his own blood, not even trying to help or kill him faster, just watches it happen. as schlatt takes his last breath, wilbur storms down to the basement to make sure schlatt is dead. and he is! so wilbur's like this is my perfect victory, everything is fine now, except shit, tubbo knows about the murders bc frankly they are not very good at cleaning up their murders. this means they either need to kill tubbo or convince him to keep his mouth shut. they both know the second isn't really an option.
one of them vouches to keep tubbo alive despite this, probably quackity, and it sparks an argument that has quackity finally confess that he knows wilbur killed sally. wilbur is paranoid and angry and quackity is paranoid and angry and their argument devolves until they're trying to fucking kill each other. wilbur barely escapes the room with his life intact, though he doesn't manage to quite kill quackity.
he tries to find fundy and tommy, but they are both still trying to get to the shop after escaping the prison? or some shit again, not fully sure, their part of the story needs some fucking work, but wilbur is frustrated because he hoped to find them before tubbo did, lying and saying tubbo and quackity were killed by schlatt and wilbur killed schlatt in retaliation, and fleeing with both of them into the night. when he can't find them, wilbur decides he needs to go back after tubbo and goes through the side door of the house and back down the basement stairs.
while wilbur was looking for tommy and fundy, quackity had gathered himself back up from their fight and planned to go after wilbur and finish the fucking job, but he trips on schlatt's body and in a moment of just complete and utter anger and frustration and, unfortunately, love for both the dead man and the man who killed him, quackity grabs a bone or knife or something and cuts open schlatt's chest, pulls out his heart, and starts to eat it. as quackity eats schlatt's heart, tubbo comes up behind him and stabs him through his heart. he drops the knife and runs, finding tommy and fundy running up to the front door, looking for wilbur.
wilbur finds himself downstairs. he looks at the carnage, the oven still running, quackity and schlatt's dead bodies, meat and bones everywhere from he and quackity's work together. he wonders how the hell he's going to face fundy, face tommy, after everything he has done. he hsan't seen his son in 13 years, he hardly knows what fundy fucking looks like, he hardly remembers what sally looked like. it's all in a haze of blood, the awful life he made with quackity and tubbo overwriting it. he decides to kill himself and explodes the shop with the oven. somehow. i guess.
fundy, tommy, and tubbo get out alive, bc i always liked that johanna, anthony, and toby manage to get out it was very nice to me. tommy and fundy are heartbroken that wilbur died (still not sure how much they, specifically tommy, know about wilbur and quackity's business), and tubbo is admittedly very sad that he had to kill quackity, but he knows what they don't, that wilbur and quackity were dangerous men playing a dangerous game and bringing unsuspecting players into it, and he is the luckiest person in the fucking world to get out of their orbit alive. so he celebrates the fact that he won their game, and the three of them try to make a life. it is certainly happier than whatever they would have found in wilbur and quackity's.
also here is the only written (unedited) scene i have you can have it bc well i love to share thangs
Killing people outright is something Wilbur will admit he’s not fond of. He doesn’t like to watch the light leave peoples eyes. He doesn’t like his hand being the one to fell someone. He sits at the counter, staring at his hands. They were covered in blood just minutes ago. Before Quackity walked him over to the sink, talking in a low, steady voice about how it was understandable, it’s hardly as bad when it’s in self-defense, what was he supposed to do? Just let Eret tell Schlatt Wilbur’s back in town? Wilbur did the right thing. Whether that was Quackity’s voice or Wilbur’s own telling him, he still doesn’t know. But Quackity meets his eyes across the counter and does not look afraid, does not look worried. Just thoughtful.
“So,” Quackity starts, tapping his fingers atop the counter. “What do we do with her?”
“Take her somewhere far, far away,” Wilbur says, in a voice that sounds just as far. “Bury Eret where they’ll never find him.”
Quackity nods, looking somewhat disappointed. “Right. Right. I mean, burying Eret would make the most sense, right?”
“Right,” Wilbur echoes, hardly listening.
“But…” He sighs, looking up at the ceiling, all that separates them from Eret’s body. “Seems like a waste, right?” Wilbur is brought a little closer to Earth in his confusion.
“A waste?”
“Business has been bad,” Quackity continues, thoughtfully, conversationally, like this is all very normal and Wilbur isn’t still rubbing at his hands to get the blood off. “Debts we can’t pay off. What would it hurt, when he’s already dead?” Wilbur isn’t connecting whatever dots Quackity lays out. Eret is dead and the shop is doing poorly. The thoughts don’t intersect. “I mean, it’d be wrong just to dump them somewhere to rot, when there’s a use? When the price of meat raises every fucking week?” Rot. Meat. The connection is made. A little laugh tumbles out of Wilbur, amusement or shock he’s unsure, and Quackity smiles. “Plenty of meat, plenty of business.” It’s completely despicable. It turns Wilbur’s stomach inside out. It’s almost enough to make a Godless man pray for forgiveness… It’s absolutely fucking brilliant.

arctic oscillation update! now clocking in at roughly 17.5k words, arcosc is officially longer than any of the 77-2 fics and is quite possibly on-pace to be the single longest solo work we've ever written, given that we're only five chapters in and again need at least 2-3 more chapters before there's an ending in sight!
surprisingly though, the final hurdle to get there happens to be one of our oldest fics. i had no idea vm! was a little under 20k words long, but it is, apparently, 19,962 words long, which is just absolutely stunning to me.
(after that, though, wordcounts go up drastically as our three longest fics are all collab fics -- the hec and jo show is exactly 27.5k words, TICOTBSSK (which we're credited on for worldbuilding/other help but was 95% Zain) is 37.8k words, and of course dog at the door clocks in at an absolutely staggering 66,416 words.)
anyway though, holy shit, i don't think we can call this a side project anymore, this is more like an orbital laser on its own and then there's also a second orbital laser that hasn't been loaded with ammunition yet. actually i'm a little scared to find out what bs!au's wordcount will be, given that it's a Solar And Fluffy Fic and last time that happened we uh . yeah.
also we're still not sure how to end arcosc lol. it'll come eventually, i'm sure, but at the moment the plot threads are forming too interesting of a tapestry for anything to have a concrete end in sight. we'll figure it out though. we've got a lot of time before this thing ends up being published, after all...
...it's not the only thing in Project Northern Desert.

A little while ago, I got a comment on the Humphrey instalment of the fic series about the births of the Lancasterlings, saying they were eagerly awaiting the Blanche and Philippa instalments. Which was really nice to hear but also made me realise that it's been four years (?!?!) since I posted the Humphrey instalment.
I don't consider the series to be over, in case anyone thought I did. I've always intended to cover the births of Blanche and Philippa and still do. I mean, at the very least, it's me. Come on, do you really think I'd drop the series before I got to write the sweet, sweet angst surrounding Philippa's birth? And that's not going into how much I yell and cry about Blanche or Philippa at any given hour on any given day.
Why is it taking so long? Mainly because I've been writing a bunch of other stuff, and my brain is such that I can only really write what I want to write unless I've got an external deadline pushing me on. I've also had to rejig the timeline a bit in relation to finding out when Blanche's actual birthdate was (I had her in early May, she's actually late February). I've also been blocked on the Blanche instalment for a while - I started writing it and have about 2.5k already written but then got stalled.
The good news is that I've got some fresh ideas for how to get unblocked. I was going to write it solely from Mary's POV, like the last two instalments, but I'm thinking a return to Henry's POV, either solely or shared with Mary, might be the shift I need to get cracking on it.
I've also been playing with the idea of delving into Henry's issues more and borrowing from Susan Howatch's The Wheel of Fortune where the equivalent of Henry's crusading leaves him with some PTSD, iirc, and how that impacts his relationships with his kids. One problem with this plan is that I'd have to reread chunks of the Henry bios I have which means reading Ian Mortimer (ugh) which will probably result in me yelling about it at poor @shredsandpatches, who has already suffered though many, many, many of my rants about Mortimer's BS. On the other hand, this fic would be gratifying revenge as this Henry would be even more the antithesis of everything Mortimer thinks Henry was. After all, Henry's crusading is one of the big things Mortimer cites as proof of Henry's greatness and unquestionable heroism and his giant penis supreme masculinity...
Another possible problem with this plot is whether it's going to be a sudden and dark tonal shift in a series that's largely about the Lancasterlings being stinking adorable. On the other hand, the first and second instalments deal with Henry having depression and anxiety after Hal's birth and the last one has Hal having his first depressive episode so it's not like the series is Fluff and Cuteness: Everything Is Fine and Wholesome All The Time.
At the moment, I want to get to it soonish. I have a couple of WIPs I'm actively working on, from a modern AU about Hal's birth and a fic about Henry seeing Hal for the first time following his Shrewsbury wound. I also want to finish off the fic from Hal's POV about the dagger incident. It'll probably be long too so it'll take awhile to write once I get started. And this all supposes my brain doesn't chuck an "actually, write about this instead!!!" moment and scuttle these plans completely.
I do have some stuff written for the Philippa instalment - actually, it's one of the very first things I wrote from Mary's POV and still really love - but I don't have any real idea about the plot, character arcs etc etc except "Mary dies and it's very sad" which means it'll take even longer to write. I'm pretty sure that will be a split POV too but we'll see what happens once I start actively working on it.
So, that's the state of the series. It's not abandoned, only stalled, and I can't believe it's been four years since the last instalment. I hope to get to Blanche's instalment soon and not get stalled again.
If you made it all the way to end, an excerpt feat. Mary and baby John:
Mary scrutinises the open pages of her account book, making careful notes on a wax tablet every time she finds something to query or adjust. John, sitting on her lap, mirrors her – his eyes slide over the list of figures and as soon as she lifts the stylus, he scribbles his wax tablet. Despite the fact that he is only just beginning to make shapes that could look like letters, he’s clearly a clerk in the making. She takes a moment to kiss his cheek and cuddle him to her. ‘Mama,’ he says, ‘Mama love?’ ‘Yes, Mama loves you very much,’ she said. He gives a contented sigh and wriggles on her lap. She kisses him again, nuzzles her chin into his thatch of dark hair. He and Humphrey have been needy and insecure since Harry and Thomas went to stay with her mother for a short while. She can’t blame them. Without Harry and Thomas, their home in Peterborough feels half-empty and much too quiet. There’s no Thomas ready to scream or shout at all hours of the day or night, no boys nosily playing in the courtyard. John misses them especially – he’s too young to follow them and too old to be much interested in Humphrey.

I got a few yeses on elaborating on the au with Ghostbur and Phantombur so here we go. I actually have a fic I've been working on for months but uh. It's like 2 chapters lmao. I'm terribly slow at writing and idk if it'll ever be finished. It's called Graveyard Shift (it's not pubic atm).
Anyway!
Phantombur is just Wilbur Lampblack, sometimes 'Wil', and eventually Ghostbur goes by Winston Boo.
Phantombur is mucking about with organizing his experimental potions. These are made by mixing up some of the recipes, corrupting others, using different ingredients, or even different bases like the thick or mundane bases.
He is transporting these in his kitchen when one drops, a mirror like liquid pools across the floor and he quickly puts the others down.
TLDR basically Wilbur pulls Ghostbur out of this mirror like substance in the floor. Well, first Ghostbur almost pulls him in but Wilbur is stronger.
Of course Wilbur is very strongly spooked and frankly a bit creeped out by a guy that looks like him coming out a portal in his floor, who after some questions, has the same name, but slowly he calms down, at least until it dawns on him the situation he's in.
They talk a lot, and they start off not really liking each other, just tolerating the situation they're in. Wilbur is trying to figure out the ingredients to the potion he made so he can return Ghostbur.
Ghostbur is trying to enjoy being in a place outside of limbo. Ghostbur sleeps in Wilbur's basement and Ghostbur calls Wilbur 'Wil' just to annoy him.
Ghostbur is given this mask to wear around so people don't start bothering them about where the hell he came from. If asked Ghostbur is a friend visiting that Wilbur met on his travels.
At some point, Ghostbur goes to Wilbur and tells him that only people who knew him called him Ghostbur back at home. He tells him that he called himself Winston Boo.
There's a bunch of shenanigans that happen between them and other people, and there's some drama and angst but slowly they warm up to each other. Over time they become friends, and there's this touching moment between them on the bridge below the pube. 'Wil' doesn't annoy Wilbur anymore, he's fond of the nickname.
All the while he learns more and more about limbo and where Winston is from, and his decision shifts. Instead of finding a way back, he searches for where to find or create an orb of origin, hoping that if Winston got an origin in their world, or however it works, it would make sure he'd never have to go back to that place again.
In the end, there's a happy ending and Winston gets an orb and choses an origin, and he gets to stay and he's happy. this is just the sort of tldr on the whole plot but i have a ton of individual side plots and scenes and stuff so please send any questions!

5. What’s a fic idea you’ve had that you will never write?
too many to count! I have lots of ideas, and I know the majority of them will never be written, but you never know when and where the inspiration strikes. that said, here's some ideas I think I've given up on for good:
the 1899 AU - fun concept but too complicated for me
a different vampire AU - I had this concept before BRR, and the plot was basically that Jyn and Cassian were married sometime in the 1800s but they were separated (it's complicated) and they were both turned into vampires. flashforward to present times, they both think the other is long dead until they meet again. there was a lot more to it I'm not gonna get into right now, but I decided I liked BRR better, and I don't need two vampire stories so this one was abandoned
regency AU - this one was an angsty two-parter with noble-born Jyn falling in love with working class Cassian. they decide to run away, but Jyn's guardian Krennic catches them and chases Cassian away. Jyn then has to marry someone else, but she was actually pregnant with Cassian's baby who Krennic forces her to give up. in the second part they reunite roughly five years later, Jyn's husband now deceased, and together, they decide to find their lost son. mostly abandoned because I came up with a different regency AU I liked better. I don't hate this one, but it's just so heavy. so if I ever write regency, it'll be the other idea.
8. What project(s) are you currently working on?
wayyyy to many things. my ongoing WIPs are Blood Red Rose, Amas Veritas, a wolf at heart, and don't say you love me. Other than that, I do really wanna write this lawyers AU I've been talking about, and I also still have a few prompts I need to get to. So... many many things!
24. Share a moodboard for (one of) your current WIP(s).
okay, so fun fact, I have so many moodboards I haven't shared yet. I make them ahead of time when inspiration strikes but I want to post them with the actual fic so sometimes I just end up... not posting them at all lmao. but let's see, I have moodboards for: a zombie AU, a Hunger Games AU, a Mass Effect AU, the lawyers AU, and two for the original werewolf AU (that I ended up abandoning for a wolf at heart instead.) idk, should I just post them? I can't choose which one to share but if you guys wanna see one in particular, I'll post it!

Hi ! It’s been a while seeing your fate posts wanting to get into it - but with that last post about fate series levels…! Do you like… recommend getting into it ? And with a particular series ? Or is it the kind of media where you’re like i adore it but i wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy
I wholeheartedly recommend the Fate serie. It is, and I mean this completely unironically, one of the best series I have been given to eat in years.
Usually when I make headcanon or meta posts about a given serie, there is a large amount of wishful thinking and self indulgence involved. I don't think Ariosto intended to write Orlando Furioso as a story about Angelica desperately trying to escape the narrative, but it is a lot more entertaining for me to read it this way. I am well aware that digimon is a children's cartoon and a lovecraftian horror story about the inherent corrupting power of light, it's just more suited to my tastes too imagine stories that involve that.
That's not the case with Fate. I am still very often self-indulgent and horny on main, but generally speaking when I say shit like "the protagonist of Fate/Grand Order is a normal person gradually becoming insane the further the plot goes" or "people die when they are killed means that if you refuse to let someone die when their time comes you are denying them the simple right to be a person" that is. Very textually what happens. The Fate serie allows itself to go all out on bonkers and/or horrifying concepts and themes, which is doubly refreshing in a world where media are slowly being made blander by corporations who don't want to alienate their audience and lose money.
That being said, it is a serie that has been going on for a very long time, so the writers like to reference their old works, make use of concepts they've foreshadowed 16 years ago in an obscure visual novel that never got translated, make full aus of their own stories, ect ect. So the joke of this post is that there are some Fate works you can jump in with 0 knowledge of Fate and you'll be mostly fine save for maybe a couple cameos you won't recognize, while some others will be fucking incomprehensible if you haven't eaten the full wikipedia page beforehand.
If you follow Lance's post, you can probably pick any work from level 0 to 5 and try to work you way out from here.
If you want my personal input, my entry point was Fate/Grand Order, and while I could make a whole post on its strenghts and weaknesses if you need one the important part is that it did a well enough job having a compelling story on its own while explaining the worldbuilding basics to me.
Fate/Stay Night (the visual novel) is the first title of the Fate serie, so it's a good entry point as well, but it is fucking long and frankly the first route has aged a bit so that's up to you. If you want something easier to digest to see what's Fate about and if it'll be up your alley, you can always check out the Unlimited Blades Work anime (which is an anime adaptation of one of the routes of the vn) or the Fate/Zero anime (which is a prequel.) I also know a guy who got in through the Fate/Apocrypha anime, so if you like Mordred specifically it might be your thing idk.
Honestly don't sweat it too much, Fate is very much a serie where you will revisit works you've already eaten and go "oh THAT'S who that bitch from episode 5 came from and that's why they made it into a big deal at the time" once you've got a bit more context. It's worth asking your friends if any of them are already into Fate so they might be able to give you insight on how blorbo #34 actually has SUCH a compelling backstory in an earlier work, but if you don't that's fine just go with the flow.
Oh yeah fair warning tho that Fate sometimes features some Anime Bullshit (that's a polite way to say "lolis") so if that's a dealbreaker for you be aware of it.

WIP meme: 🗣️ ❌ 💗
thanks for the ask, zainab!!! <3
🗣️: Talk about your favourite WIP
ahhhh this is a hard question because generally my favorite WIP is whichever one i can be assed to work on at any given moment, which is currently none of them rip. but if i had to choose one, it's probably gotta be "buy me some peanuts and cracker jack (i don't care if i never get back)" aka the baseball au!!!
i've got a lot of various things planned for this one, all kind of etched out in a vary long conversation in mysu, but the basic plot is sam and bucky being fwb-that-both-actually-have-feelings-but-they-won't-tell-each-other-that-bc-they-think-the-other-one-just-wants-sex while being first on rival baseball teams and then on the same baseball team! there's going to be more puns than i probably should make about hitting various bases and the fact that bucky's a catcher and sam's a pitcher and a lot of taking care of each other post game/practice turning into intimacy (ice baths, massages, sam is most definitely gonna get a Weird Thing about IcyHot).
also the least sexy thing about baseball is absolutely its players propensity for dip, so in protest, bucky starts chewing various flavors of bubble gum all the time bc he wanted to be able to chew without the chew. sam's got more than a bit of a Thing for it
❌: What WIP do you find the most challenging? Why?
also a bit of a hard one, just because they're all kind of challenging in their own ways. a lot of the aus just have a lot of worldbuilding that kind of has to be figured out before the au really gets written, which is why those get stalled, so those are by definition challenging
but honestly the most challenging is probably the fic where sam's struggling with an eating disorder and bucky's trying to figure out how to help him, just bc it's a little too personal. it's hard to write, because if i'm not in the perfect headspace for it it'll either end up being triggering or just making the already bad food days worse. i really like that fic, but i knew when i started it it'd be a surprise if i ever finished it
also i have no idea how i would end it, because it's a struggle that continues to be ongoing for me (and would probably be the same way with sam)
💗: Is there a scene you can’t wait to write for a WIP?
ooh this is a good question!! i've got a couple bits of the star wars au i'm excited about!!! i think i want to flash back to how sam and bucky first met at some point, which i'm excited to flesh out, and also i'm excited to write their eventual post order 66 reunion (which happens like 10 years in the future and will be probably be fairly angsty bc both of them are in Bad Places right now)
send me an emoji from this wip questions list!

Idk if I said any of this but I wanted to talk a little bit on Future!Katsuki and the arm.
Because yes I'm still taking her arm lmao.
So like. In terms of story. This plot popped up because of what's been happening in the manga. So uh yeah she loses the arm during my AU's version of that fight.
I'm going to say the cutoff is between elbow and shoulder of her right arm.
Obviously that's. That's an Adjustment™. She actually handles it pretty well, all things considered. Already worked a bit on her self-worth and also knows that losing an arm won't stop her.
She absolutely has Mei make the prosthetic arm. Because Mei already knows how to make it work with her Quirk. Which is why we're onto the actual arm functionality!
Honestly given the level of tech we've seen in the show, I'm pretty sure they're already at a level where fma-style automail sort of prosthetics exist. Iirc we've seen some, but don't quote me on that.
So I'm already using that level of tech as a base. Add in a bit extra tweaking to accommodate the 'technically the future' tech. But yeah the way it'll hook into the body and the mobility functionality.
But on top of that Katsuki's specific prosthetic functions like her Grenadier Bracers. It can absorb her sweat and spark to create blasts.
Katsuki has two versions of the prosthetic. The Work Model and the Domestic Model.
The Work Model is designed for Hero Work. It can create the same level of blasts her other arm can create naturally. It can take hard hits. It can hook into the Grenadier Bracers. However, her hand isn't very dexterous, and it's also decently heavy. Sacrifices made for sturdiness in battle so that it can handle the recoil of her blasts and also any combat.
The Domestic Model is designed more for any time she's not planning to fight. It's lighter and has about as much dexterity as her actual hand, allowing her to do more complex tasks like cooking or playing a video game. She is still able to make explosions and engage in combat if necessary, but it is not as durable so she has to be careful with that.
Both do have some issues. Can't really tell temperature and she has to relearn how much pressure to apply when grabbing items so not to just crush them. But hey! Better than nothing!

wip list, virtually unchanged from last time but redone in an attempt to motivate myself as i seem to be wrangling my life back into order which hopefully means writing soon:
goofy resurrection fic - i actually made some progress on this last time i started getting in the groove! it's at like 5k now and while it's very funny of me that i thought i could get it in under 10k i was right that actually writing it is very easy (and i don't think it'll end up that far over - under 15k for sure). priority to finish because i need a Win. hoping to post it in august although at one point i was also hoping to post it in june. but cancer season fucking came for my throat which is not a circumstance i see repeating itself so hope springs eternal!
weird second person fic - this is like my second priority because it's so wildly plotless and self-indulgent that writing it is very easy. somehow over 8k already? may post in parts because i think the finished product will be long - maybe like 30k or so - and it does feel divisible. but probably not until i am at least close enough to done to feel like i can really see the shape of it.
baby making verse - i am so fond of this concept and rly need to like, put more of it into actual words. the second fic in this series has like 2k done out of a 12k total maybe? that's what it says in my spreadsheet but those are pretty arbitrary tbh.
third fic in that verse mostly completely unwritten but also i think much shorter. fourth fic is not allowed to go on the wip list until the wip list is smaller but i really like that one too...
mosaic PWP where eliot has caught feelings - currently ~1600 words, this one i really do think has no business getting over 10k. i am a little more passionate about the previous bulletpoints than this one but feel like i might wind up finishing it first because it will probably be my easy fic to work on after the resurrection story wraps.
post-s4 PWP - i am going to finish this concept if it kills me but no speculation as to when
margo & eliot as baby hedges - another idea for which i feel great enthusiasm which mostly exists in my head. 600 words, probably on the backburner until i have fewer notions rattling around in there
moody bookstore AU - i insist on putting this on my wip list even though i have, like, one paragraph that i am extremely dissatisfied with. why? couldn't tell you
the one where quentin needs space - currently around 4k, i love this one but i think i can't work in earnest on two like 30k+ range fics at once, so it's hibernating until i get whatever is going on in bullet point #2 out of my system
unnecessarily secret story the first - a short thing that will begin in earnest when some of the other short things in the queue have been cleared
unnecessarily secret story the second - a probably 30k+ thing (i mean when i look at the concept it has no justification for being that long but.... probably...) that will begin in earnest when some of the other 30+k things in the queue have been cleared, and/or when i start getting close to the semi-arbitrary deadline i've given it. hopefully the former but it's important to have a plan B
fics i refuse to put on the wip list but which do continue to sporadically haunt my waking hours: some kind of underworld jailbreak story which may or may not ever exist depending on if i can ever figure out the plot architecture to make it go; my beloved and most precious divorced quentin AU which i do actively want to write but for now remains percolating partly because i think it needs less competition to be a proper project and partly because like i haven't managed to hear the voice for it yet you know? like i have so much fondness for the concept but as a story, idk, i haven't managed to find my way in yet. it's okay. it's percolating. it's my bedtime story. it's keeping me company.

Newsies has once again invaded my brain, so lo and behold I'm plotting out an AU... the gist so far is that Adric and Nyssa are siblings, in like the sense that her father took Adric in after his brother died (gonna go ahead and say their parents sent them out of country at a young age because I recently came across someone telling the story of their family history and their great grandfather was sent to the United States at 12 years old to avoid being conscripted by first the Ottoman Empire and then the British because of WWI. So in that vein, Adric and his brother were sent to NYC, with no other relatives with them or even living there.). Nyssa's dad does reasonably well, like not you know super wealthy, but they're definitely comfortable. I have to play around with why she and Adric wind up getting into selling newspapers, but since I can use Newsies as a general idea it'll probably be similar to Davey and Les.
Tegan actually gets similar as well, except it's just her and her aunt, and selling newspapers is a way for her to not only help with the house, but also have a measure of independence. Her aunt's death is gonna be a whole Thing, given that I'm giving her the leadership position of the Brooklyn Newsies (I say its Brooklyn because the whole damn Burrough is pretty no-nonsense and also I think it would be fun to have them be immigrants living there) and Turlogh will accidentally set her off because yeah, he's gonna be there too. He'll be a pain in the ass, but since he and Tegan are basically siblings in canon, it'll work out very well for my plans.
Five I haven't decided on yet, but I think he'll be from a family that's really well off, but he's just like mutually ignoring them (I can't remember what TV show this is from, but one character has a parent who puts money into their bank account and they both pretend they don't know where it's from. It'll be kinda like that.) and he sort of winds up adopting these morons like he does in canon and of course nonsense happens.
To continue the theme, and because I want to do some world building, Sarah Jane will be there as well. She'll be a reporter, but have been a newsie some years before the start of the story and thus have the respect of most of the cities newsies, not only for the reporting, but also because she was the leader of a different burrough's newsies. I don't have a timeline yet, but loose idea is that the 1899 strike depicted in Newsies is something she was involved in.
Nine will also be there, he'll have been a newsie but is working at the docks by the time the story rolls around. Will also have pull with newsies as well because of this, plus he's the most working class of the Doctor's. This man would look right at home at a dock or a ship yard. Anyways, he'll be hanging around Sarah a bit and basically be everyone's older brother, yes that includes Five.
I have no plans for Harry, Four, Rose, Mickey, or Jack as of yet, but I'm sure they'll wind up in there. For the most part the focus is gonna be Team Five, but that doesn't preclude other Doctors or companions showing up, depending on how this all develops. I only have a couple of scenes and some broad ideas.
