Prompt 122
“Have you met Seal Hood?”
Dick paused almost mid-jump, having apparently turned to the wrong channel but also changed to the perfect one too. At least, perfect in the fact that he had just overheard an interesting thing from Jason, apparently forgetting that his comm was in fact on still.
Damian must have answered, because Jason snorted a laugh. “You can try getting him to leave, he’s taken over my bathtub and keeps eating all my food.”
Hold up, was- Dick had thought Jason was talking about a plush or something, but was he talking about a literal living animal seal??
“I’ll have you know I’m not going to make a poor little baby seal leave, and I’m not putting him in a zoo, brat.”
Oh Gotham, it was a real living animal seal. Dick about faced, rushing towards Jason’s safehouse. How did he get a seal? Why was it in his bathtub?? Why hadn’t he called the proper people for this sort of thing?! He had to get to the safehouse now to see this shit.

Dc x Dp Prompt #4: Ghost Selkie
Disclaimer: references and facts about Selkies are based on Selkie folklore, true facts about seals, and stuff I just made up because it works well with the story
~~~~
Okay so Urban Fantasy inspired au where turns out there is some Selkie blood mixed up somewhere in the Fenton bloodline. As such Jazz and Danny exhibit a few Selkie-like traits but nothing too serious: a playful nature, a certain grace and agility, attraction to shiny things (stars and microscopes), a decent singing voice, being strong swimmers, and seeing in the dark better than the average person. After The Accident™️ and being more involved with the super natural world some of those aspects get a bit stronger for Danny but he just chalks it up to being a Halfa. That is until Skulker catches him on an off-day and manages to capture him by snagging the back of his jumpsuit. Phantom, in a moment of panic and desperation, decides to try and rip off his bodysuit to escape. The suit comes of alright but out tumbles Danny Fenton rather than a de-clothed Phantom. Skulker, in a moment of shock, drops the suit and Danny catches cradling it to his chest while every fiber of his being screams “MY COAT. MY PELT. MINE, DONT STEAL IT.” Skulked realizes what’s happened before Danny does and nopes out of there bc “ This is not what I meant when a said I would have your pelt whelp!” Danny is left sitting there feeling stunned. A quick round of experimentation leads him to figure out that he is now able to take off the suit in Phantom form, but it will de-transform him into Danny. Furthermore, the regular "going ghost" transition still works both with and without him physically holding the suit.
A quick consultation with Clockwork and Frostbite reveals the Fenton Selkie heritage and he goes back to report to Jazz and his friends. Due to Jazz’s instance the siblings get a crash course in Selkies through a community of Selkies and Part-Selkies in the Infinite Realms as well as having a younger ghost show them where to find the modern underground Selkie-Community. Which leads to them getting emotionally adopted by their (dead and alive) Selkie mentors. They learn about eating habits, behavior, culture and customs (including the in and outs of courtship and mating), and camflouge/blending into society.
Jazz learns to tap into her vocal magic/manipulation. Her voice has a deeply calming effect on others and they feel more compelled to listen to her. This comes in handy with some of her more rowdy patients at her internships and stuff. She’s also to taps into the physical aspects of her Selkie blood and gains enhanced dexterity, agility, balance and reflexes. She’s also working towards improving her strength and stamina. Needless to say her aim has definitely improved. Nothing too wild but as she gains more liminality, those aspects become stronger so she’s definitely a cut above the average human though not as crazy as Danny.
Danny on the other hand gets the ability to “shed his pelt” by being able to physically take of his suit and de-transform as well as how to disguise the suit as a jacket or something (maybe a romper or a cardigan?) so that he he can keep it on him for quick, more discreet transformations if he wants to. His ghostly form takes on more Selkie traits like fangs for a powerful bite and more muscle mass and fat in certain areas to improve his endurance and cold resistance. He also learns to manipulate his ectoplasm to be able to shapeshift into the seal version of a Selkie. He is able to practice and manipulate his Ghostly Wail and hone it into a Siren Song and Sonic Singing too.
So basically both the Fenton siblings get cool Selkie power-ups (and unbeknownst to the two, admittedly already quite attractive siblings, their looks take on an otherworldly allure too). As well as a new community eager to take them in and provide them with support. That's why when Danny decides he wants to get away from Amity for college (the ghosts have agreed to a truce as long as Danny pops in for a spar and some shenanigans every now and then. He acquiesces because playing and roughhousing is a part of building social relations for both ghosts and selkies) some of their Selkie contacts help him apply for the Wayne Scholarship at Gotham University and get him set up in Gotham.
Let’s switch gears for a moment here. Gotham has always been a weird place full of weirdos, magic, and cursed energy. Basically, overall chaotic, edgy, and somewhat rancid vibes. It also is entwined with the supernatural. Lady Gotham, the spirit of the city, has allowed many a supernatural community to remain well hidden in her realm including but not limited to fae, witches, gargoyles, vampires, and of course, selkies. There is a huge underground supernatural community in Gotham, part of which is the Selkie community. Most of the Selkies moved out of the harbor and onto land due to pollution. The luckier ones who managed to gain some quick wealth settled in the Upper East Side or Coventry while others ended up in Burnley, the Bowery, and Crime Alley. However, family is very important to Selkies, so there is little resentment between the areas. They try to help out each other and the other members of the supernatural community in Gotham whenever possible. The overall magical community is spread out over Gotham with a few hot spots like Old Gotham, Robinson Park, Crime Alley and the Bowery, and Chinatown.
Now enter: Jason Todd (or a different member of the batfam of your choosing but you’re on your own to figure out how that’ll change the story). Jason grew up around a large portion of Gotham’s supernatural community. There were plenty of fae, selkies, sirens, vamps, and various other magical beings within Crime Alley. He discovered the community early on when he found out that the abuela who used to feed him tamales was in fact a Bruja (witch). Her name was Señora Mariana Soliña and she swore him to secrecy and taught him some basic knowledge on how to recognize and avoid being screwed over by the supernatural.
When his mother died Señora Soliña revealed her surprisingly large amount of wealth to him. She chose to live in Crime Alley to be closer to magical friends and people who would seek out her services as a witch doctor (her cover bc the best lies have a hint of truth). She offered him a hot meal and some spare cash when she could but they weren’t able to run into each other as often as they liked. After getting adopted and becoming Robin Jason made periodic visits to her before his death.
Jason’s resurrection didn’t happen in a Lazarus pit but when he crawled out of his grave. It was due to the magical energy(read also high ecto-concentration) in Gotham he had been exposed to that he became a Revenant. He was able to develop a core through the latent energy and become a spirit/reanimated corpse that sought to avenge both his death and countless others at the hands of The Joker. His dip in the Pits (polluted ectoplasm) brought him out of his catatonic state but triggered his obsession and left him with Pit Rage. Yada yada yada, trains with the League of Assassins, yada yada yada, trains with All-Caste and gets the ability to wield the magical All-Blades, yada yada yada, returns to Gotham for revenge becomes a crime lord, etc., etc., you know the drill.
Fast forward to when he’s made up with the BatFam and is now an antihero. His pit rage has gotten more controllable as the natural ectoplasm and magic in Gotham is slowly filtering out the polluted ectoplasm in his system but it’s still a long process. The supernatural community, however, is happy to have him there. You see Red Hood is actually quite a popular vigilante within the supernatural community. Among his many monikers, they were the ones who gave him the nickname “Avenger of the Unavenged”, and nod to his nature as a Revenant, as well as the aura of the All-Blades (which are meant to defeat absolute evil) that most magical beings recognize.
Jason is fully aware of the presence of the supernatural community in Gotham, as well as members of it who live within his haunt. Once things reach a new “normal” for him he tracks down Señora Soliña only somewhat surprised to see her alive and kicking. He asks for her guidance in the supernatural past the basic knowledge she gave him as a kid. Señora Soliña recognizes his magical aura and status as a Revenant and agrees. (Note: Jason is aware that he has some magic in him, but he attributes it to the All-Blades. He is not fully aware of his status as a Revenant. Señora Soliña assumes he knows and thus does not inform him.) She teaches him and helps him start getting integrated into Gotham’s supernatural community. She offers to “adopt” him as her grandson "Jason “Pedro” Todd Soliña" so that he can take on a civilian identity and attend college. He agrees, eager to resume his education and take on a semi-"normal" life.
And thus we've reached the part of our story where two worlds collide. Jason and Danny first meet peripherally during orientation at Gotham U. They don't really have a direct interaction, just learning each other's names during the icebreakers and some eye contact during the tour. Danny is dorming and Jason commutes so the don't see each other much past running into each other on campus or in the dining hall. That is until they spot each other at an underground, supernatural beings-only, cafe called Xenia a few blocks away Robinson Park.
The two realize the other must have a supernatural connection and start up a conversation. The conversation is illuminating as they learn they're both fairly new to the supernatural community and mostly ghostly. Danny reveals himself as a halfa and of selkie descent and Jason uses his cover to introduce himself as the grandson of a bruja with magic, a brujo-in-training if you will. Upon being asked what a halfa is Danny realizes Jason doesn't know a ton about ghost culture and gives him a quick crash course leading them both to figure out that a) Jason is a Revenant and b) Danny could probably help the Pit Rage by giving him some ecto-supplements. Due to this newfound information Jason conveniently forgets that his new friend mentioned having Selkie blood.
The two meet up more after that, intentionally this time so that Danny can continue teaching Jason about ghost culture and just to hang out. (Note: Danny isn't teaching Jason about selkie culture as he assumes the grandson of a bruja would know that stuff already. Jason has been taught a bit about selkies but they haven't thoroughly covered the topic of courtship yet). As they hang out and develop a friendship with each other the seeds of romance are planted.
One day after they wrapped up lunch at Xenia, Danny left the cafe, accidentally leaving his pelt/jacket on his chair as he's still getting used to having to keep track of it. Jason not realizing the significance of his actions picks it up and takes it with him. Later that day Danny freaks out realizing he left it behind when he runs into Jason. Jason was actually looking for him to return the jacket. So he's like "Hey man you left this at the cafe so I took it and now you can have it back" assuming the redness on Danny's face is just embarrassment. Danny, while mortified, is also extremely flustered. Selkies typically only let close family and lovers have access to their pelts because it implies a deep and intimate bond built on trust that they'll give it back. For Jason, who should know about such Selkie customs, to not only take his pelt but then also return it so easily is some very straightforward flirting. But hey, Jason is good friend... and easy on the eyes too. He wouldn't mind if there was something more there. So Danny decides that he wouldn't mind courting/being courted by Jason.
Jason on the other hand has in fact caught feelings for his friend but hasn't realized he already initiated courting by doing this. He plans to do it the ghostly way engaging in some bonding through sparing and roughhousing and building up their feelings before asking him out. Unfortunately for him, there is a lot of overlap between Selkie courting and ghostly courting so Danny believes that Jason has been courting him for some time now. There are also some things that are specific to Selkie courting Jason unknowingly does, such as buying Danny a bracelet (shiny rocks as a courting gift), beating up a couple of guys trying to mug Danny (defending/showing off for your mate), and introducing Danny to his family/agreeing to meet Jazz (family is very important to Selkies).
That's why when they go out to dinner, and Jason embarrassedly corrects a waitress who thought they were on a date by saying "Oh we're just friends", Danny is understandably upset. He was under the impression that their courtship was getting rather serious since Jason had met Jazz and Danny had met Jason's family. When he asks Jason why he told the waitress they weren't dating he replies "Umm because we're not?" in an uncertain tone. Danny feeling hurt and upset takes his glass of water splashes it onto Jason's face and storms out of the restaurant. Jason is left there soaking, confused, and wondering what he did wrong.
That night Jason goes to visit Señora Soliña to see if he messed up some ghostly custom for Danny to get so upset. When he arrives one of the first things she asks him is how it's going with Danny. When he recounts what happened at dinner and explains his confusion, the bruja takes a deep sigh before smacking him upside the head. Jason is like “wtf abuela?!” And she just shakes her head at him and calls him an idiot. She then reminds him that Danny is part Selkie and explains all the ways Jason has been courting him during the past few months. Jason, realizing he screwed up grabs one of his leather jackets and goes off to track down Danny.
Danny has returned to his dorm to cry and eat ice cream in his pjs from the comfort of his own room. He’s about to watch some comfort tv when there is a pounding at his door. He gets to find a disheveled looking Jason standing at his door. Danny frowns and questions what he’s doing here. Jason’s like “Look I know you’re upset and understandably so but please let me in and I can explain”. Danny’s care for Jason wins out over his anger as he resigns himself to letting the other in. The first thing Jason does is apologize for hurting Danny, saying it was never his intention to do so. He then goes on to explain how he hadn't realized that he had been courting Danny in Selkie customs. Danny is understanding but still upset and voices his feelings to Jason. Jason allows the other to get his anger out and then continues to say that he was actually trying to court Danny through ghostly bonding, and he would still like to date him if he’s open to it. Jason then takes off the leather jacket that he brought with him and offers it to Danny, saying that he doesn’t have his own pelt to offer, but this is the next best thing. This gesture nearly brings Danny to tears and he throws himself to hug Jason, accepting the jacket. The pull back and look into each other's eyes before sharing a kiss and spending the rest of the night cuddling before Jason has to leave.
From then on Jason ramps up the courting to 12, determined not to mess it up again. He reasearches selkie and ghost courting customs in depth to properly woo Danny and personalizes dates to their personalities. Danny is happy to be lavished with the attention and returns the favor. The two of them also make an effort to make sure the have clear communication to avoid having misunderstandings again. A few months later Jason decides to re-introduce Danny to the batfam as his partner and brings Danny along to Wayne Family Dinner with a ring around his finger. It’s a promise ring not engagement ring, but what Bruce doesn’t know will surely give him a heart attack and Danny is happy to go along with it. Danny and Jason become the longest and most stable relationship in the batfam. Tim and Damian even come to them for advice when they try to romance their own partners.
The story kind of just finishes off with the two of them being happy with each other and leaves an open ending to add in small scenes that happened during a time skip or after the story (e.g gushing to siblings, an actual proposal, identity reaveals, batboys seeking advice, them engaging in pda, interaction with other supernatural beings, gossip surrounding their relationship, ect.)
made up fic title: To each their bones
First of all, that's metal as hell. May get that tattooed on my ass. It'd go great under the horse skull that takes up my whole back.
Speaking of horses and bones (I say as if those aren't the two things I'm most likely to be talking about at any given moment) my gut reaction answer: my ghost horse oc gets her own villain and it's this.
Alt answer: I'd steal the vibes Hozier has going on in In A Week. Specifically the theme that our flesh is only borrowed matter, etc. I'm thinkin' an AU where ghosts are only able to leave the GZ until there's nothing left of their bodies but their skeleton unless they can recover said bones and maintain possession of them (or burn them? ...or maybe destroying the bones lets your spirit move on altogether?). A ghost has however long it takes before their flesh has decomposed before they're unable to cross through any portal, natural or otherwise. Idk I just love the idea of maintaining a mind-body connection after death. Bones have quite a bit of staying power, but they're not of much use to us without the squishy meat that returns to the earth so quickly.
Obviously the circumstances of one's death and the conditions in which their remains are left means some ghosts have more time than others. Ghosts do not form magically having knowledge of this phenomenon, and it's not common knowledge among the living. Either you run into another ghost that knows and you track your bones down yourself, and/or you're stuck and have to send someone to find and retrieve your bones for you. Bringing them back to your own little area in the GZ is usually a safe bet, but not always. Skulker has his own skeleton on display.
Natural portals are so rare anyway that it's not much of a Thing until the Fenton portal is activated. Who cares about being able to navigate the living world when it's so hard to get there in the first place? But when Danny activates his parents' very strange machine, he gets caught up in a bunch of ghosts' mad scramble to find the bones of an ally or an enemy. Lots of graves are dug up. Some cold cases need solving 👀
Of course the whole issue isn't a problem for halfas since they've got a pretty good handle on his bones at all times. Danny finally catches a break. Perk of being alive: you don't need to keep track of your skeleton! It comes with you everywhere!!
Not sure where a single story would go with this. Maybe a re-hashing of 1.13? Johnny doesn't need to find Kitty a host, he needs to find her body... what's left of it, anyway.
Mythical au
Alfred had been the guardian angel of the Wayne family for many centuries. He'd been worried that he'd be forced to watch over a different family after Bruce died, but luckily he'd decided to take in Dick then Jason then a whole slew of children after and he didn't worry about being taken from his family for decades at a time. There would be challenges, he knew, but nothing he wouldn't do for his family.
When Bruce brought home two half dead children, Alfred knew that they were going to be a permanent fixture in the family's lives even if Bruce insisted that he was only fostering them until their aunt could safely take them in.
↓ more ideas ↓
Alfred Guardian angel - has a human form, minor healing powers, minor precognition concerning their charges He's the guardian of the Wayne family and upon his "death" he'll go visit his previous charges. After a few years in heaven, he'll choose a new form and come back to Earth. Knows what species his wards are almost immediately, but tries not to say anything as it's typically considered rude to talk about someone else's species without them saying something first. He isn't aware that some of his charges have no clue they're anything other than human.
Bruce Human No one but Alfred, his teammates, and his children believe Batman is human. No one thinks Brucie could be anything but human. His kids have a running joke that he's not actually human.
Dick Selkie - seal that can turn into a human, in human form they have a coat, if a human steals said coat they can force the selkie to do whatever they want, can be vengeful and dangerous, are normally friendly helpful and attractive. He takes many precautions to hide his coat from everyone. He sometimes sneaks to the pool in the mansion to swim. Bruce didn't know for a few months. Jason didn't find out until before Ethiopia. Tim figured it out after one month. Damian didn't know until Dick decided that Damian wouldn't use his coat against him.
Jason Wraith - steals/hoards souls, holds grudges, targets those who've wronged them until they've captured their soul and can force them to wander outside of the spirit world for eternity. He became a wraith after being resurrected and is very vaguely aware of being one. He's definitely collecting and hoarding souls, but has no idea what to do with the souls he collects. His ultimate goal is to collect Joker's soul and force him to wander aimlessly for eternity. He absent mindedly tries to take any ghosts for his hoard whenever he zones out around them. The magic community and ghost community are aware of this very-much-alive wraith and have mixed feelings about it, but the overall consensus is that it's a bit funny. His family - except Alfred, Danny, and Dani - don't know.
Tim Sphinx - smart, guardian, can prophesy, ferocious, generous, merciful He doesn't know he's a sphinx. He gets glimpses of the future but doesn't normally say anything to warrant anyone becoming suspicious of him having prophetic dreams. If he was aware he was a sphinx, he'd be able to tap into his true form and become stronger, faster, and better at controlling his prophetic ability.
Damian Imp - crafty and mischievous demons with minor magical abilities and a craving for the spotlight, typically garners attention from those who want to enslave them, born pranksters, impulsive, good at shapeshifting and conjuring fire He's very unaware that he's an imp. Talia is also unaware. Ra's is aware and hiding the fact that they're imps.
Danny Halfa He's very confused about Jason being a fully alive ghost (almost, kinda). He does think it's funny when (in ghost form) Jason tries to add him to his hoard of souls when he's sleepy or absent minded.
Dani Will-o-wisp halfa - mischievous, sometimes they're reported to have led people away from their deaths and sometimes they are reported to be the cause of people's death mostly due to causing confusion in said people. Dani's aware of being a will-o-wisp, seeing as she shines brighter than Danny and has a propensity for wandering and mischief. Also, she was told about being a wisp by a wisp while traveling. She also thinks it's funny when Jason tries to add her and Danny to his soul hoard when he's sleepy or absent minded (when they're in ghost form of course, he doesn't react when they're in human form).
i love taking the ghosts out of Danny Phantom. like obviously the ghosts are great but also you can replace them with literally anything & it still works perfectly. Danny got bitten by a werewolf. Danny got bitten by a vampire. Danny was cursed to be a selkie or merperson or dragon. Danny can use forbidden magic. Danny's a demon with a human soul. Danny's gay. & he can't tell his parents because of their views. it doesn't even matter you can put that guy in situations completely unrelated to the original concept & it's still exactly the same because it envelopes the entire idea of "my parents hate what I am" that so many of us have personal experience with & i think it's beautiful to have a show that so easily lets us scream into the void & imagine our favourite little guy also surviving what we did/are
Just thought of a selkie AU for Danny Phantom but instead of him being an actual selkie it’s how he transforms
But whether that’s him unzipping his human skin to become ghost, unzipping his ghost skin to become human, or it’s an eternal shroedinger thing where the skin is irrelevant and he just unzips constantly to transform both ways and it seemingly never ends
There should be a scene in the sulkie fic where Danny is in his seal from flopping around in Jason’s bed and their hanging or playing and Damian comes in and is at first concerned that Danny isn’t in proper conditions and scolding Jason but then the seal giggles before he transforms back in Jason’s lap
Oooh this sounds like a fun idea! im not sure it’ll work in the main story since the majority of the fic will be centered around Jason and Danny. Plus Jason will have forgotten Danny is part selkie but this could work very well as a scene in the epilogue and/or post-story vignettes.
you should talk abt your earth-116 oc kids 👀
Akajsjakakah ok you asked for it lol
Idk where to start
Oh wait the three dc ocs that are kinda sort of their own thing except for one anyway
Lynn Small aka Selkie. Gothamite. Half Atleantean. Hates their dad. Goth. Eventually a sorcerer. Bad at coping.
Quatashia McFadden aka Lady Iris. Wonder Woman stan. Her mom is the goddess Iris. Would be offended by the pjo books. Retires from being a hero very early in life.
Jivika Chabra aka Kali. Her bio mother is lady shiva who donated her egg for a gay assassin couple to use with a surrogate. Yeah it's a long story. Also jivika isnt happy that they wanted her to be an assassin later in life. But like she only finds that out when they're both dead? They weren't planning on actually training her till she was 18 anyway. At least she can yell at their ghosts. Would kin Danny Phantom. She ends up dating Emiko Queen while in college!
Now my dickroy kiddos
Valerie Harper-Grayson. Adopted when she was three. Part Atleantean. Damian is her favorite Uncle bc he is almost always up for taking her to the aquarium. Then again Damian is basically all the Harper-Grayson kiddos fav Uncle. She never gets into the whole vigilante/hero business.
John Bo Harper-Grayson. Yeah John Bo is his whole first name. He goes by Bo. Hes biologically Roy and dicks kid. He'll eventually become Nightwing but he stays out of vigilante stuff till hes about 19.
Dylras Harper-Grayson. He was adopted as a baby from New Tamaran! He was rescued from uhh human/alien traffickers. He becomes Flamebird to Bo's Nightwing.
So now Bo's best friend: Jordan Lance-Queen! Haldinahollie's kid.
Jordan is biologically Hal's and a surrogate. They literally tried to find a surrogate that looked like Dinah. Jordan ends up being nonbinary so luckily they already had a gender neutral name. They'll eventually become Green Arrow! Their main goal in life is to make Bo suffer.
And then there are the Kent-Waynes and Allen-Waynes. Timkonbart kiddos.
Logan Kent-Wayne is tim and kons kid. Hes a really sweet kid though I havent wrote him as well him yet since I've mainly written him in a time period where he hasn't come out yet. He literally named himself after an actor cough garfield logan cough from a science fiction show he liked but then he found out said actor is friends with his uncle dick and he will never admit this.
Then there are the actually older than Logan twins. Except their clones. Made by lex luthor with DNA from kon and tim, Clark and Bruce Kent-Wayne use to be known as Alexander and Alexa Legacy. Maybe they were a little evil but they changed. They wanted to choose new names for their new lifes and asked tim, bart, and kon about names. Bruce's gender identity came out when he choose the name Bruce. Bruce and Robbie Troy end up dating (for a second time, first time being back when b was a little evil) and doing humanitarian work around the globe while also being heroes. Clark ends up going to Metropolis University to study elementary education!
And then there are tim and bart's pair of twins Meloni and Dana Allen-Wayne. I've only written them as babies so far so I havent given them much thought
Oh that reminds me Thad Allen (used to be Thawne but I feel like thad would change it) has an adopted son who he named Max
Now these two aren't kiddos but: Ezra and Amber Kane, Bette Kanes parents. Ezra is the youngest kid of whatever the fuck martha and Jacob's parents names were. He was a bit of a surprise considering his parents were pretty old when he was born so hes like 20 years younger than his closest sibling in age jacob. Hes also only like 8 years older than bruce and doted on his nephew as much as he could and hes the inspiration of the whole brucue wayne playboy act despite him not being a playboy at all but anyway. Hes also a pro tennis player. Amber Kane is his wife and best friend. She once dated Janet Drake. She had a shitty life and despite being an actress her childhood is still mainly secret. A few vague details are known but not specific not that it matters anyway. Her parents died when she was young and was taken in by some not so good people who got away with it bc they had money. Ezra and Amber spend any minute they can with Bette bc they love her and she is the light of their lives (well besides each other).
Then there's Faith, Bane, and Soledad Kerzner. Scandal, Kay, and Liana's kids. Faith and Bane are biologically Lianas with Thomas Blake as the sperm donor. Soledad was adopted when she was two . Faith... is a bit rebellious and gets caught up in some shit she really shouldn't have. Bane and Soledad are two characters I havent really explored yet but anyway they all love their three moms.
Viola and Robin Thomas are Duke Thomas and Jackson hyde's adopted kids. Viola is Martian which is really difficult considering her abilities. Shes a sweet kid though and really likes to help her dads! Robin is an Atleantean baby Jackson saved and brought home and it was kinda like that icarly meme (duke: jackson what do you have there? Jackson, holding robin and a smoothie: a smoothie) but like more dramatic bc Jackson was injured and had only come home because it was close and he really needed to actually go to a hospital anyway yay. Viola will become the signal and robin will become aqualad on day
Oh and there's Lilith "Lili" Bloomberg. Shes rose Wilson and eddie Bloomberg's daughter. She likes to watch blue devil. Shes really sensitive. Rose and eddie never got married to each other but Rose and Mia dearden married when Lilith was sorta young and eddie was married to jason todd for a little while before they got divorced and later he enters a relationship with zach zatara but I havent decided if that will last or not. Lilith is really close with tommy Blake bc hes kind of like an older brother to her
And then there's mystery girl wilson... I have yet to name her but shes a character I'm working on but her dad is slade
And that's it for now. There's more but I dont feel like going into then right now. But there more like Jason Todd's group of adopted kiddos and some others but I feel like this answer is getting way too long
Hi Dr Matt! I’m in love with the selkie verse (are we suprised? Noooo) I just love this fog’s snark and FAEness it’s wonderful! And Matt being such a cute half-selkie, rubbing cheeks and barking and being his stubborn self is beautiful!!!! Thank you so much for sharing ❤️ Now that I have officially entered obsession -I was wondering if you had any tidbits you could/would like to share?
Aw, anon! I’m glad you like their dynamics ❤❤❤❤
Tidbits! (These are just off the top of my head since I’m still working this stuff out)
Johnny is scared of Danny Rand because he thinks Danny is a dragon (bigger, scarier fire).
Danny is not a dragon, but he really, really likes that people think he is, so he is unnecessarily coy and snarky about it, which just propagates the rumors.
Since discovering selkies to be a thing in the world that exists, Frank’s Italian upbringing has come out in full force and he’s started researching all the creatures his nonna used to scare him shitless with. He’s got a list. He assumes that Foggy knows these things, but every time he bucks up the nerve to ask Fogs about like, a Longana, or something, he just gets blank face because fae are super regional.
Peter and Co. went to Nelson and Murdock once and saw Jack ghosting around the place, organizing Matt’s desk to a T. They freaked and tried to get Jack exorcised.
Jack wanted (and wants) to like the kids, but after ^ he has been burned. No amount apologies can make him stay in the room alone with them (he’s like, the reverse of a poltergeist)
Matt sucks at being a half-selkie. Foggy’s family attributes it to him not being socialized enough as a pup, but Jack and Maggie know that he’s just bad at it. It doesn’t have to be any more complex than that.
Karen is so fae-blind that she doesn’t know to stay out of fairy circles.
Pizza is the most common offering to fae in NYC.
this is what I’ve got for you rn anon. I’ll hopefully have another piece for the selkie verse up soon ❤❤❤
Can Anti-Fairies get magical buildup?
It’s… complicated.
Yes, because Foop said so in “Tools of the Trade” and I can’t make a liar out of myself now. But also no, because in “Baby, You’re a Rich Man” Sanderson mentioned inspiration backup for pixies, and I also can’t make a liar out of myself there.
I don’t retcon myself unless I absolutely have to. Even when I do something stupid like say that fairies have six-pointed crowns when I know for a fact their crowns have five points because I’m just dumb and don’t know how to count even when I double-check myself with the same picture ten times. Sometimes there are regrets and changes that need to be made (Speaking of “Tools of the Trade”, I need to fix it so Foop calls Anti-Marigold by the name Kelsia), but I try not to retcon if I can help it.
Backup is like this:
MAGICAL BACKUP
Fairies
_ backup - Various types of backup for different Fairy subspecies depending on what their lifeforce is tied to (cherubs are tied to love as we saw in the show, and there are some others- elves to friendship, selkies to altruism, etc).
This subject about lifeforces was only mentioned in THIS post a year ago and I’ll bet you thought that was never coming back. Surprise.
So, cherubs get love backup if they aren’t working to help people fall in love, basically. It’s slightly more complicated than that, but basically, yes. Elves get friendship backup if they’re grumpy loners for long periods of time. Each subspecies is different.
Anti-Fairies
Karma backup - Put simply, this occurs when Anti-Fairies can’t cause bad luck.
Technically it has to do with achieving balance and homeostasis, so good luck is involved too. It’s complicated. Also, even though Fairies have different types of backup for each subspecies, the Anti-Fairies as a whole get karma backup.
You’ll see a lot of examples in my works about all the Fairy subspecies being treated as different whereas the Anti-Fairies all get lumped in the same group because they’re “all the same”, which leads to some political issues as we’ll see in Frayed Knots.
Pixies
Inspiration backup - Occurs when pixies can’t be innovative. We’ll be talking about this very soon, but all* of the pixies have a “niche behavior”. In my fanfic Origin of the Pixies, Sanderson’s niche behavior is making music (singing and playing instruments, though when he was a baby we saw him clap his hands constantly) and there’s another pixie whose niche behavior is thumb-sucking. If you prevent a pixie from engaging in their niche behavior, then they’ll get backup. Giving subordinate licks is another way to avoid backup because it offers a drone similar mental release, as does picking a human you think is interesting and “inspiring” them in their work. Hence the name “inspiration backup”.
The example we’ll see in Origin when H.P. explains this is, there’s one pixie whose niche behavior is scratching his face. He uses his hands to scratch his face. Only his hands (There’s a jewel wasp joke behind this, but more on that later). The important thing is, he was scratching up his face pretty badly. So, he has to wear scratch mittens! He still scratches himself with his hands and gets his mental release, thereby avoiding inspiration backup, but he’s no longer hurting himself. You know. Because. I wanted to see H.P. taking care of his babies and you put scratch mittens on babies. This is completely self-indulgent but I’m the one writing this fanfic, so there.
I think of it like a Ghost’s fixation. Since fixations are a popular headcanon in the “Danny Phantom” fandom, I just thought I’d point it out, though it’s not a Ghost headcanon I went with myself. My pixies got it instead. Simply, this is half of how I ended up solving my “Why don’t H.P. and Sanderson get backup in the chapters when they never use magic because they don’t have wands?” problem.
Technically this idea is all based off a combination of parasitic wasp behavior and the animal version of OCD, because my Fairykind headcanons are always based off animal behavior before they’re based off human psychology. But yeah. I can go into more details if anyone wants me to, but this should be enough to satisfy y’all. And you guys probably don’t want to hear the gruesome details of everything I’ve researched about parasitic wasps anyway, even though they are fascinating. I love parasitic wasps. That’s why I’m writing a fanfic about insect people with parasitic wasp DNA.
Yes, Anti-Fairies can suffer from magical backup. All the Fairykind do. However, “magical” is the umbrella term because they are magical creatures. Each race experiences backup in a different way, just as a natural side effect of being alive. It’s something they have to deal with on a daily basis the same way they need to eat or go to the bathroom.
Additionally, there are other types of backup. If pregnancy goes on for too long, someone could get backup from that. I’m still working out the kinks, but I’m leaning towards that being the reason behind Anti-Wanda swelling up when she gave birth to Foop. It’ll just make it less awkward in my fanfics if I don’t have to do the same thing… with… Anti-Fairies living in colonies and all being born on Friday the 13th due to embryonic diapause and all. That sounds like it would get… crowded.
The backup I assume you’re referring to in your Ask is called wish-granter’s backup. That’s for godparents only! Any magical creature who “syncs” with a godkid and becomes a godparent can suffer backup. This is why Norm suffered from magical (wish-granter’s) backup in “Fairy Idol”. He was a godparent. Literally the whole plot point there was that genies don’t suffer backup naturally, and only fairy godparents do.
Also, if all Fairies suffer backup when they can’t grant wishes for their kids, then all the Fairies who don’t have godkids would have to suffer backup in a constant cycle every day of their lives. We can’t have that.
So yeah, there are different types of backup, and the main one we see in the show is a godparent thing. The power boost you get off having a godkid comes with a price.
TL;DR - Yes. Yes they do.
Inchtinn: Island of Shadows by Danny Weston - BOOK REVIEW
I received this Proof in exchange for an honest review at YALC from uclan publishing, which will be published on the 17th of October this year.
“What if survival relied on facing your greatest fears?”
For fans of “Miss Peregrine's Peculiar Children” and “Darkmere” comes a creepy new mystery from Danny Weston which follows a young boy’s fear on an island that might be haunted.
Inchtinn is about Noah a young 14-year-old boy who’s adopted mother is a famous author looking for new inspiration for her next book. They travel to stay on a small island for two weeks in hopes of her finding the perfect location for her next adventure book whilst Noah has to face his fear of water being stuck on a remote island with no easy way to get back to shore. The haunting whispers of the island slowly stick to Noah’s nerves as he fears he may be being watched from the shadows.
This is a very fast paced one siting read which is a mix of “Darkmere” by Helen Maslin and “Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children” by Ransom Riggs. It’s a period piece which channels energy from both books whilst having a spookier setting where we learn more about the haunting history of this island. Danny Weston has written a great story which had my attention from the very beginning till the last page. We have a story filled with myths and history that reflect a few elements of Cartoon Saloons animated feature “Song of the Sea” (2014).
If you’re looking for a fast paced read for a spooky night in October this would be a perfect read as it had me glancing at my own windows seeing if something might be watching me too. It’s not too scary but the perfect blend to keep you on your toes. If that doesn’t sell it for you, the final cover is so beautiful and the book itself has a few pages of illustration by Miranda Harris.
SPOILERS start here
So, as someone who has enjoyed both Darkmere and Peculiar Children I found myself racing through this read without even noticing that I had 10 pages left. At first I was concerned there wasn’t enough energy or hooking points to keep me interested in the story, but I more or less read it in one day. Weston has built a strong plot and world that could have been investigated further but still rounds off well for just over 200-page book, he ends chapters at the right moments to keep you flicking through the pages and saying “One more chapter won’t hurt”.
Noah’s fear ended up feeling so relatable, whether it was the fear of the water or denial of the haunting spirit. You feel his bravery towards the end when we reach the last big obstacle as he finally faces his fear of the water that had been haunting him for so long. Noah’s dream about the ghosts being just a reasonable explanation almost had me completely sold that it was in fact just a logical explanation and not ghosts at all. I think it perfectly portrayed the emotions of someone trying to believe and deny what they’ve seen all at the same time. It’s such a difficult thing to portray, as someone who’s reading you can be like well “clearly it’s a ghost” but facing the reality of how someone could react to this if it actually happened is a difficult one. I think the mum’s reaction was quite spot on considering how much it was brought up that she didn’t like fantasy writing and didn’t believe in all of that nonsense.
This book feels like it could be a simple series or short film, I could totally see a 3 part TV special dwelling deeper into the past more than our little ghost did. This book has made me realise how much I would love a good YA book on the myths of Selkies, It was so nice the way to story circled back to the seal at the end as it was one of the first big points at the start of the story. My only negative point for this book was maybe that is was a bit too short and needed to scare me a bit more. Though saying that, it did make me double check no ones looming over me before I sleep since completing this book.
SPOILERS end here.
I haven’t previously read any of Weston’s book, but I found this a nice simple read which I would recommend to those looking for a little suspense and mystery for an evening. In addition, Miranda Harris illustrations are quite fitting for the mood of the book and are a nice surprise once you flip on to a full page of her art.
Rating 4/5 **** It was an overall good fast passed creepy read, I think there was room for it to be a bit more haunting with a bit more build up.
