watching the jigen daisuke movie and it's crazy how much this feels like I'm watching garo. it's got everything: grungy neon colored town, corny sentimentality, insane fight scenes, a plucky older craftsperson who supports the hero from their hole in the wall shop... if they gave Mr tamayama tetsuji a garo ken instead of a gun twould be indistinguishable
the villains are wack too there's a guy who can shapeshift!? is. is this normal for the lupin universe

questions 1, 2, 5, and 8
Wow didn’t think i’d get this far. *clears throat*
1: how did i get into Toku. Well, it was a mixture of watching “history of power rangers” and searching tv tropes. My first attempts at watching stuff were Gaim and Liveman.
But for how Properly: i’d tried for years to watch a show in full and really sink my teeth in and pretty much failed to finish anything but Liveman which even then took years, or in Rider’s case failed utterly to finish, and then my ex ghosted me as a friend, and i was stuck at work feeling bored, and lonely one day waiting for my ride, i was thinking about how i enjoyed reading about people’s reactions to ex aid. -along with it being in my thoughts for various reasons <like it’s insert songs > as it had recently ended, and i’d enjoyed ex aid 1-8. It had also seemed like a good way to try and make friends. So I Went and Binged Ex-Aid 8-45 <and Dr Pacman > over the course of that labour day weekend. Worth it.
And then a year later while streaming and being out of stuff in english To Stream i pulled another friend in with OOO and we binged through it, and Fourze. Finished Gaim too that way.
2: what was the first show i watched:
Well since i partially answered above: Gaim and Liveman were my first attempts at their respective franchises, Liveman took me about 3? Years on my own, plus i’d both skipped a few eps and had to speed up the last few eps due to having work the next day (it is still one of my fav sentai and i have watched it multiple times since, please watch it). Gaim i don’t know how many eps i got through but put off due to wanting to use it for exercise. Yeah that didn’t work.
Now for Ultra: Ultraman Orb. Fun fact i hadn’t realized it was only 25 episodes because usually the toku i’d encountered or looked into -and Doctor who, were all Much longer. until literally ep 18. So: “man how are they going to top this we’re only half way”. *checks* “huh where’s the rest” “oh shit”
i like Orb. It’s a fun little show.
Other Toku:
Garo: season 1. Tried to do a halloween watch and didn’t finish. Tried again later and couldn’t get into it-and then when in a situ where i could’ve. Had to miss most of the season.
I have however finished the first season of the Ryuga timeline. Started slow but really did pick up, thanks @flaim-ita looking forward to more goldstorm.
Other toku in geneal: Kaiketsu Zubat.
I’d seen clips and photosets because of how insane Zubat was and had been curious, and then Toei’s youtube put the first two episodes up. And: the first episode of Kaiketsu Zubat is Insane. You do not understand if you have not seen it.
5: favorite main hero:
For Rider: Tendou. Ultra: Riku. Other: Ken Hayakawa, and Taisei High School Heroes. <and i haven’t finished it but Mako Dogengers high school
Sentai: the Liveman Trio but for Red’s in general. -yeah probably Yusuke from Liveman if i’m being honest when i think about it, but Momoi Taro has been up there. i just am waiting to see if it’s recency bias talking or not.
8: favourite series:
Kabuto for Rider. Donbrothers right now if it sticks the landing for Sentai, Gokaiger or Jetman if not.
Geed for Ultra. and for Other Toku: Kaiketsu Zubat.

Autumn 2014 Anime Season
Recall last season.
Well, that was a rubbish set of predictions. Still, I completed 11 shows and still have 4 ongoings which is actually a heck of a lot more anime than I’m used to watching..it helps that no K-drama or J-dorama has been remotely worth my time lately.
Onward to Autumn 2014! This time, I’m trying to improve my projections by actually watching the PVs rather than just reading badly-written synopses.
What I think I’ll like: Kiseijuu, Mushishi S2 Pt 2, Gugure Kokkuri-san, Akatsuki no Yona, Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso
What I’ll be watching even if I don’t end up liking it: Nanatsu no Taizai (i read the manga), Fate/stay UBW, (bloody) Wixoss, World Trigger, Ai Tenchi Muyo
What I’m totally on the fence about: Shingeki no Bahamut Genesis (looks cool), Amagi Brilliant Park, Madan no Ou to Vanadis, Sanzoku no Musume Ronja, Denkigai no Honya-san, Yuuki Yuuna wa Yuusha de Aru, Trinity Seven, Sora no Method
What I’ll try to watch but probably end up dropping: Orenchi no Furo Jijo, Girlfriend (kari), Garo, Okami Shojo to Kuro Oji, Donten ni Warau, Cross Ange, Danna ga Nani wo Itteru ka Wakaranai Ken, Hi☆sCoool! SeHa Girl, Bonjour Koiaji Patisserie, Karen Senki
What I’m 100% sure I won’t be touching with a barge pole: hi sequels (Aikatsu, Chaika etc), Terra Formars, Tribe Cool Crew, anything Gundam, Grisaia no Kajitsu, Kaitou Joker, Ore Twintails ni narimasu, Daitoshokan no Hitsujikai, Inou-Battle wa Nichijou-kei no Naka de, Ushinawareta Mirai wo Motomete (NOOO NOT FEEL)
Leftovers: Akame ga Kill!, Daiya no Ace, Yama no Susume S2, SAO IIWell, that looks bloated ._. I’m thinking of going for the Korean Nodame & Liar Game remakes as well as the live-action Nobunaga Concerto soooo….wish me luck w

Fist of the North Star Musical Returns for Autumn Performances
After the nuclear war of 199X, Kenshiro just wants to sing and dance. And explode people's heads, of course.
The Fist of the North Star musical is coming back this autumn, bringing both new and returning cast members to the stage in Tokyo and Fukuoka. Based on the manga written by Buronson and illustrated by Tetsuo Hara, the show was originally produced by Japanese talent agency Horipro and Chinese theater production company Ranspace. Ako Takahashi penned the script and lyrics, with Frank Wildhorn composing the music and Sachiko Ishimaru directing. Its first run kicked off in December 2021.

Much of the main cast will be returning. Yusuke Onuki will reprise the role of Kenshiro, with Ayaka Hirahara and May'n trading off the role of Yuria. Takuya Uehara and Kandai Ueda will also return as Shin. GARO actor Ryosei Konishi will be taking over the role of Toki in both casts, and singer AKANE LIV will play both Tou and Toyo.

I am curious, you seem to like Kamen Rider, are you also a fan of any other tokusatsu shows?
I do like Kamen Rider. I also like other toku–I’m generally a fan of older tokusatsu in general, with Choujinki Metalder and Japanese Spiderman being recent favorites of mine. They’re a huge blast to watch with mates, and the characters are always so fun to see in action.I’ve currently got Kaiketsu Zubat, Space Sheriff Gavan, Robot Detective K, and Kyoudai Ken Bycrosser on my watchlist, and I’m having fun going through those.
I’m not exactly a “things were better in the 80s!!!!” hipster, though, modern toku is extremely fun as well.We finished up Yoshihiko and the Demon King not too long ago, and that was a hilarious romp. GARO is a wonderful franchise, even if it keeps alternating hard between utterly amazing and utterly terrible. Thunderbolt Fantasy quickly cemented itself as one of my favorite shows of all time.I also still manage to keep up with newer seasons of Kamen Rider, even when some of them manage to be awful awful awful awful seriously Kamen Rider Ghost was so awful like aaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Garo Versus Road followup idea (Spoilers)
Have been thinking of what if Garo Versus Road had a sequel, was thinking maybe a second season but it’d be off since having another game where another set of players fight for the armor wouldn’t make any sense. So I thought a followup movie that focuses on Kuon being asked by a Makai Priest to fully become the Golden Knight since he was the sole survivor of Versus Road. The idea would be how Kuon is trying his best to continue living a normal life but has trauma over remembering the pals he lost, he then notices someone following/spying on him and meets a woman who reveals to herself as Makai Priest, she reveals to Kuon that the Senate gave her the mission to have him be the next Garo since the armor chose him, explaining the events that lead to the previous wielder of Garo and how it effected the other armors not being usable, but through desperation, a few Priests (against the higher ups wishes) decided to make a game to have the rookie Knights fight to the death to see who can be the one to obtain the armor out of desperation, even if it meant breaking the code. Hearing the story, Kuon is reluctant due to everything he’s lost, the Makai Priest informs him that Azami is plotting something new, which makes him decide to finally cooperate with her, but must go through a test to earn his title as a Makai Knight, going through training that has him battle figures that take the form of his pals. Clearing the test, he is given Zaruba and the Garo Ken returns to him. Elsewhere, Azami decides to experiment with the remaining Dark Metal that she obtained on Inga Horrors to create a new type of Horror, possibly looking for remnants of Zedom to harvest the seeds to help make more Dark Metal.with assistance of a few powerful Horrors. eventually Kuon defeats the big enemy but Azami escapes for another day. A bit messy on the end but I think that’s the idea I would go with, then have a new season focusing on Kuon’s new adventures being Garo and having to get use to his new life. That’s what popped into my head, this might not happen but its wishful thinking at best.

I think the implication is not that love is forbidden, but that she can't settle down and fight evil at the same time. She thinks she shouldn't want to have a family because saving the world takes too much time.
hm. i mean i guess with garo’s track record of killing priest moms (& some dads) it is presumably pretty difficult to try and have a stable family while also going out and doing warrior duties. we’ve got jinga & amily in this same show who obviously it didn’t go super great for them attempting to do both things at once.
their history would’ve been a pretty good catalyst re: anxiety about trying to balance those aspects but there’s no indication that rian has heard the story at this point in the show (she wasn’t present when amily told it).

i just don’t quite get why you would feel guilt or like you’re “weak & selfish” over this when living long enough to get married and have kids is a necessary part of the culture that she’s a member of.... i dunno. garo is beyond my ken sometimes
