Lecture Hall, Beatles Ashram, Rishikesh, India
The Beatles Ashram
The ashram of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, otherwise known as the Beatles Ashram, lies abandoned and in ruins on the outskirts of the Hindu pilgrimage town of Rishikesh. Not far away, the Ganges River pours out of the Himalaya onto the plains of northern India.
The Beatles studied Transcendental Meditation here.

Every week, Eco India brings you stories that inspire you to build a cleaner, greener and better tomorrow.
Not all of our waste ends up in landfills and scrapyards. Too much of it pollutes our seas and rivers. There are initiatives trying to change that. Along the Ganges river, a company from Germany is trying to help.

Redesigning Grieving Spaces in a Sustainable Way
Towards Flood Resilient Hamburg
Dessau Institute of Architecture Masters Programme
Studio Peter Ruge - #0000FF- Too Little, Too Much
Sakshi Jaiswal -  Redesigning Grieving Spaces in a Sustainable Way
In Indian context, society revolves around religion and usually it became a visual and representational spectacle for the country. Spaces related to faith often become more than just places of devotion.
One such space, cremation grounds have been a part of the Indian landscape for as long as history itself. Our fear and discomfort with death have left Crematoriums isolated and miserable spaces in an urban context. This exclusion from society has left these spaces as the mere ground for the departed souls, which has resulted in the mismanagement of a lot of natural resources including the water bodies.
Lack of maintenance and consideration have made such spaces inconsiderate and impudent of the rituals, religion, people and most importantly natural itself. Therefore, this research topic will try to make such spaces more environmental-friendly and more inclusive ready to be integrated back into society. With an analysis of the existing data and design on the site, as well as pre-colonial Indian architecture with a deep study about the history of the city of Varanasi and the religion. This design research aims to find architectural solutions to redesign / redevelop grieving spaces on the banks of river Ganga, with a balance between sustainable design methods and religious beliefs.
The research and design are going to be a mix of vernacular architecture and new sustainable technologies in the funeral industry which has less impact on the environment.

See the thing is, you read HtN and like yeah, obviously lobotomizing yourself so a dead girl’s soul doesn’t get cannibalized is completely fucking wild and you probably have to love someone at least a little to do that, but Harrow has spent the whole book having tension with Ianthe and fervently claiming to be in love with the Body— and then you get to Act V and Harrow is literally weeping wailing feral about Gideon, constructing Prince!Gideon AUs (which, she doesn’t know about Gideon’s paternity!! She is simply drawing upon a (romantic!!!) genre trope!!!) and role reversal AUs and fucking coffee shop AUs about Gideon, and she’s refusing to go back to her own body, and Abigail and Magnus and Dulcie so obviously and completely believe that Harrow is in love with Gideon because they directly compare them to Abigail and Magnus, and she says she’s saving the last dance. Agh!!! Aggghhhhh!!!!!!
