OKAY I was about to give up shifting right? I had been going at it for what, 3 years now, and no dice for a LONNG time. like last night was my deadass deadass last night to shift and if I didn't, I would've fucked off and actually tried dealing with life here then something happened ya know. i was scrolling through yt ya know, as usual, and this super small creator releases a sub. I was probably gonna ignore it but it had a simple title, nothing better to do than shift today, and I was like valid and clicked on it. listened to it, felt a few symptoms but was like, yeah nothing new and continued on demotivated as hell right? well guess what, I didn't listen to any other subliminal that night, didn't affirm, didn't do a method, didn't do shit. just went to sleep a few minutes later and I FUCKIJG SHIFTED AND IM LIKE GIRL????? GIRL?????????
sub is here if you want it but like DAMNN > https://youtu.be/U8Q0-Ino6MU
I was in my dr for 3 fucking weeks bro, dont give up my fellow depressos because if I can do it, so can yall 🤩‼️
[thanks for this ask!]
THIS THIS THIS!!!!!
i haven't tried shifting with the sub you recommended as of yet, but I've had it downloaded already. i might as well put it to good use one of these days lmao.
this is a (super) belated reply, but I'm incredibly glad that you shifted! i suppose miracles happen when we least expect them. from another angle, it slightly(?) looks like some reverse psychology is also at play.
and don't give up indeed—it's hard, yes, but always remember that you didn't make it all this way for nothing. it has to count for something. even if it takes three years or longer for some, never forget that you started your shifting journey for a reason. even if you're stuck in a rut now, it doesn't necessarily mean it's going to be that way forever. it only takes time.

+also can you recommend techniques or kekkei genkai i’d really appreciate it
[thanks for this ask!]
I'm assuming you're the same person who asked about the OP thing as well lmao. I'd be happy to recommend some stuff!
my own kekkei genkai in my Naruto DR are really just the sharingan and shikotsumyaku, as my father was an uchiha and my mother was a kaguya. i just looked at a list of all the canon abilities and shot for the strongest, most coveted ones.
but! if you need some ideas for a kekkei genkai of your own, here are some of the ones I've come up with, in the past!
[lmao btw i wrote this list like almost two years ago don't come for me if it sounds silly, and my apologies if it's a bit short]
≿❈≾
(1) TIME-BASED ABILITIES
i always thought it'd be interesting if there was something that allowed users to manipulate space and time, exactly like how tobirama and minato were able to utilise a space-time jutsu. why not be able to do both separately? maybe you could have an ability where you could see rifts in time, allowing you to glimpse past or future events; which is especially useful for intel and sabotage.
on that note, the inspiration for this was the sharingan's izanagi, izanami, and kamui abilities.
- - -
(2) LUMINOKINESIS
i was rewatching Arcane when this came to me. i remembered one of LoL's cinematics for Wild Rift (the one with the teams on the battlefield), and thought of Lux. then i thought of Iridessa, one of the Disney fairies, and that one Tinker Bell movie where they all accidentally switched powers. and then i thought, wouldn't light manipulation be such an OP ability?
something like prismatic refraction could allow you to create illusions, project blinding beams, or even bend light to make yourself invisible. it's ideal for stealth. but at the same time, you could even use it offensively—similar to how Superman shoots fuckin' laser beams out of his eyes, or how Usagi (Sailor Venus) creates said beams of light to attack enemies.
- - -
(3) AVATAR-INSPIRED ABILITIES
i cannot stress this one enough!!! take literally any power you could from Avatar: the Last Airbender or Avatar: the Legend of Korra—and amp it up to the max! all of my abilities in my Naruto DR have been based mostly on these two shows, with the occasional inspiration from other fandoms of course, but really these two. the elemental manipulation, along with the 'specialisations' are not only fucking cool to use—they're also incredibly useful in mundane situations (in the DR, at least). I'm pretty sure I've made posts about those shenanigans in the past lmfao.
at that, consider these, if ever: metallokinesis, plasma manipulation, astral projection, geokinesis, and atmokinesis.
- - -
(4) INSPIRATION FROM OTHER FANDOMS
the ones I've listed above are honestly just my own favourite abilities, and the ones that quickly came to mind as i was writing this. but those are just a portion of the vast majority that you could find from other sources! there are countless more to consider, abilities that might not necessarily be included in the world of Naruto itself but still something very much to consider. who doesn't love a good crossover? i know i do. hell, I've even used some of my own Naruto DR abilities in my HP/GoT DR.
i really recommend parsing through other cartoons, comics, movies, and et cetera. and if not that, then at least check their wiki pages. Fandom is always your friend. sometimes, when i browse through fanfics on FFNet or AO3, i see things that i like (powers that a character has, for example, or situations that they land themselves into)—things that stick with me, which i note down for future reference. and when the time comes, i could use it for my own experiences.

The most recent 69 character questions for Taralin!

aaaaaaaand
68!
oooh thank you! somewhere between musing, narrative, and my own personal answers here, so the style is wildly all over the place but! taralin. my favourite ball of angst.
can you tell i have been having esther/taralin thoughts recently? i’ve also been thinking a lot about how the party dynamics have shifted with aisling and rhiann’s joining.
9 - when in their life were they most scared?
if you’d asked taralin this a few months ago, they’d look at you and raise a brow. aiden. the answer was obviously – and almost always – aiden. no matter the question.
but now? their verbal answer would remain the same. perhaps the moments after, making their deal, realising the gravity of what had occurred. but underneath it, they feel feathers prickling through their skin, and blood and flesh in their mouth. they see paladins, they see their party, they see them injured, and they land. then, they see esther’s face. the fear that gripped them then was something else entirely. not the raw, panic fueled thing that led them running from place to place, nor the sinking, prickling feeling of dread settling in their stomach and prickling up their spine when paired with a familiar look in their lady’s eyes. this was something else. something sharp and cutting, a realisation that they’ve just lost her. and the fear sinking beneath understanding, acceptance even. it’s awful, in that moment. the fear of losing her, knowing they have, and knowing that they never really had her to begin with. it might not have been the most fear they've ever felt, but it was a different kind of fear, and one they never want to feel again. they dream of it now, possibilities where she might not have turned back. might have properly turned away. they wake in her arms, sometimes with feathers, sometimes without, and they breathe. she’s here. she didn’t go. they’re fine. it’s fine.
they’ll never tell her how much it hurt.
15 - is there something that never fails to make them laugh?
nyral’s clumsiness, for a familiar supposedly meant to be useful, is something taralin treasures. the pseudodragon has never been particularly good at helping in fights – ironic, considering their patron – but afterwards? when taralin’s hands shake and the numbness sinks in? the little creature wanders his way into their lap, and rumbles so much that he startles himself awake.
26 - what type of person pisses them off?
taralin hates willing ignorance. people who have every opportunity to learn, and choose not to. it rubs them the wrong way, why not learn, if not for knowledge’s sake, then for protection.
38 - do they see themselves as an important part of their party?
taralin sees themself as a valuable liability. someone with knowledge and a willingness to do what the others tend to baulk at. they’re a protector, under it all, and they’d rather die than let one of the party pass in their place; while they’re someone who is always looking out for themself, ready to abandon ship for their own safety, some of the party have wormed their way into their heart, and now? well. they’re a liability in their own right, and if they had to go to save the others? it would be done in a heartbeat. perhaps, at this point, they’d try and take aisling out with them, but they’d leave if they felt like they needed to. being the watcher, a vassal, and knowing that watchers specifically have a tend to… not last, it means that they do have an abundance of exit plans, should they need to go. but they recognise their value to the party, especially with kadana gone. they’re aware of the reality of war, and as much as they value kit, they’re very aware that in some spaces, it’s better if they speak, rather than him. but– well. aisling knows warfare as well as they do, and rhiann has already shown that they have capacity for speechcraft. gex, while lacking in knowledge of the fae, is intelligent, if not worldly -- those in recent days, they're beginning to doubt this assessment -- and kit keeps their allies – and the smallfolk – close in a way that taralin does not, and of course they have the cradle to support them, so perhaps… the party would not feel as many ill effects at taralin disappearing that they initially thought.
48 - do they relate to anyone in their group? conversely, which person do they relate to the least?
it would be wrong to say that taralin doesn’t relate to everyone they travel with, at least in some way. gex’s curiosity, his fear. it sits with them like a stone. true and unyielding, his curiosity is a boon, making way for hubris, and his fear? taralin knows a lot about fear. kit’s naivety reminds them far too much of how they were before everything occurred; they were nowhere near as friendly as him, but they were hopeful and full of life. rhiann’s desperation, hidden as it is, rings true to them as well. their desperate need to protect adda, mirrors their own need to protect kit and gex. their similarities to aisling, however, leave a bad taste in their mouth. they don’t know what happened to aisling, to make her hate so strongly. they know, of course, it was the morrigan, and that it destroyed aisling. the fae do not forget, taralin knows, and they do not forgive. but the morrigan destroyed taralin too, and that knowledge presses like a knife to their throat. but in their similarities, they have their differences too. aisling chose anger, and taralin? well, taralin chose fear. they both have their brands of hostility, of course, but aisling’s is hot and quick to spark, whereas taralin’s runs cold, and they are bitter at their similarities.
68 - where’s their home?
home is a nebulous space for taralin, it has been since they first entered the feywild. but home is the smell of fresh bread, the feeling of sunlight on their skin. it’s a woman, explaining arcane energy, and another explaining how to laminate pastry. it’s a not-quite-cat, curled up on their lap, rumbling his imitation of a purr. it’s fields of wheat, the sound of the sea. standing on a cliff’s edge and seeing chalk walls meet water. home is a metal child, asking to be carried, and a woman’s smile as she sees them lift her. it’s a woman wrapped in starlight, and it’s a bed to come back to. it’s nebulous, but it’s hopeful. home is a space to rest.

In the Witch-Baby AU what is Vegas reaction to meeting Enid for the first time? Since I can’t imagine Wednesday either explaining how she came about to her yet or that Enid specifically is her other mother.
Also also, Enid is totally going to throw down against Esther in defense of Vegas yes?
I really would have rather shown it in a comic or fic, but considering how I'm distracted by another fandom rn... okay, I'll tell 😀👍
Vega and Enid's first meeting was supposed to be a lil rough. If you saw the WiP I'd posted before, then you know Vega was supposed to meet Sora after running away from the authorities
Tumblr media
Sora was a lost kid in the forest, and Vega helped her out by finding her way home. But of course, being a wolf, their return merely caused a panic where Vega ends up getting hurt.
Meanwhile, Enid and Wednesday eventually find Vega who is too blinded by fear to be lucid in her form. Vega lashes out and almost hurts Wednesday, but Enid jumps in the way just in time to catch the blow.
But instead of being met with violence, Enid gives her a hug, comforting her, saying sweet things like how Vega has her eyes and they're beautiful. Gradually Vega reverts back to her humanoid form in Enid's arms. It was supposed to be a parallel to the main AU where Vega transformed for the first time, since this instance in the witchcraft baby AU was also Vega's first time shifting.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Vega ended up liking Enid a lot after that. It causes a bit of a competition between Wednesday and Enid, but Vega loves both of them regardless.
Although Vega already knew she was a homunculus, Enid is the one who tells Vega that a part of her came from Enid. Vega is the one who comes into the conclusion that it might mean both Enid and Wednesday are her mothers, which Enid is thrilled to agree with and Wednesday doesn't have the heart to refute. Eventually they commit to it so they could have a cover as they go into hiding in Sora's town, away from the council.
I'm not sure if I actually want Enid to literally fight Esther over Vega's safety, but I planned to have Esther eventually accept Vega. So regardless of how the confrontation happens, I wanted Vega's charming self to end up catching her grandmother's heart despite everything.

Post Outbreak! Joel Miller x Female Reader
Tumblr media
series masterlist
summary: When Esther invites Joel to her place for dinner, he reassures you that you have nothing to be worried about.
warnings/tags: 18+ ONLY, MINORS DNI. jealous reader, soft Joel, infidelity, at this point these two are having a full on affair, fluff.
word count: 3k
“Helloooo? Yoohoo, is anybody home in there?”
“Ouch,” you gasp out as a foot connects with your shin underneath the table. You look up and shoot an annoyed glare at the curly haired woman sitting across from you at one of the smaller tables in the commune’s mess hall. You reach down, your hand rubbing over the spot where she’d kicked you with the hard toe of her boot. “What the hell was that for, Martha?”
Martha giggles. “Oh, hi. So glad you could join us again.”
Glancing from her to Maria, you frown. “What are you talking about?”
Maria playfully scoffs into her glass of lemonade. “Oh wow, she was so zoned out that she didn’t even realize she was zoned out.”
“I was not zoned out,” you counter, shaking your head.
“Okay, if you weren’t zoned out then tell me, what were we talking about right now?” Martha challenges, a grin tugging at the corner of her lips. It widens when she sees the uncertainty in your gaze. “Just now, what were we saying? Hm?”
Shit.
“You said that—um,” you rack your brain, desperately trying to remember what the two women had been chatting about. “Something about—it was something about the market, right?”
“Aha! I knew it,” Martha laughs again, pointing an accusing finger at you. “That proves it. You weren’t listening.”
“Alright, alright. You caught me, Sherlock. I wasn’t listening,” you admit, sheepishly. “Sorry. It’s just that my mind’s been a little preoccupied.”
“Yeah, we can tell,” Maria teases, shaking her head. “And judging by that big ol’ smile you’ve had plastered onto your face all afternoon, I’m guess that whatever’s on your mind is a good thing and not a bad one.”
You glance down at the plate of fresh garden salad on your lunch tray, avoiding your friend’s curious gaze.
It’s been a couple of weeks since you’d started meeting with Joel. Early on, you both decided it was safest to meet after midnight and spent a couple of hours together, going your separate ways in the earlier hours of the morning just before sunrise to avoid being seen by anyone who woke at dawn for first shift work duties. Once you were certain that Luke was fast asleep, you’d carefully climb out of bed and silently slip out of the house, then walk over to Joel’s where he would already be waiting for you on his front porch. You would sit together on his porch swing—you wrapped up in the warm embrace of his strong arms, your head on his chest as you talked, stole kisses, and held each other for as long as possible until it was time to return to reality.
The reality where you’re not his and he’s not yours.
You’d tell him stories about where you grew up, described to him the foothills of your town and talked about your family’s ranch with fondness, with such passion that at one point, Joel had started to feel like he’d been there before. You told him about your family, your childhood, the dreams you had before the outbreak had pulled the rug from beneath your feet—and he listened earnestly, wanting to know everything there was to know about you. In exchange, Joel would tell you about his own life before the world ended. He’d talk about his life growing up with Tommy in Texas, how the two of them became contractors and started their own business together. He wasn’t quite as open as you had been, and oftentimes, you could sense Joel wasn’t ready to fully open up to you about his past—not only his past before the outbreak, but everything in between then and when he’d arrived in Jackson with Ellie. He wasn’t ready to talk about any of it, and you didn’t mind it.
Just like with Ellie, you’re willing to be as patient with Joel as you need to be.
Maria’s voice breaks into your train of thought. “What’s got you grinning from ear to ear, anyhow? Is there something we should know about?” She pauses, tugging her bottom lip between her teeth before asking, “Is there some kind of special news that you maybe want to share?” Placing a hand over her small, but now prominent baby bump, she gives you a hint as to what she’s insinuating.
She’d never lost faith that, one day, it’s going to happen for you and Luke. But little does she know that your desire to carry your husband’s child died a long, long time ago.
“I’m not pregnant,” you tell her, causing her to frown in disappointment. You finally look up at her and shrug your shoulders nonchalantly. To add another casual touch, you reach for your glass of iced tea and take a sip before saying calmly, “I’ve just been in a good mood lately, that’s all. I don’t think that’s anything too out of the ordinary, is it?”
Before either of them can chime in and say another word, a familiar voice rings over the loud, lively chatter in the mess hall. “Ladies!” Esther hurries over to your table and drops down into the vacant chair beside yours. “I’m so glad you’re all here!”
“Where the hell else would we be?” Martha remarks with a snort. “It’s lunchtime, Estie.”
“Where’s your lunch tray?” Maria questions her. “Aren’t you going to eat anything?”
Esther waves her hand dismissively. “You will never guess what I just did,” she says, excitedly, looking around the table. She waits and when nobody responds, she rolls her eyes and urges, “Come on, take a guess!”
“We’re not teenagers,” Martha chuckles, tossing her an eye roll right back. “Just fucking spit it out. What did you do?”
“I asked Joel to come over for dinner tonight!”
As you’re about to take a bite of your lunch, you drop your fork and it clinks loudly against your plate. All three women glance at you.
“Sorry,” you mutter quickly, your cheeks burning. “Clumsy me.”
Martha turns her attention back to Esther. She shoots her a skeptical look. “You asked Joel Miller over for dinner—and the man said yes? Are you serious?”
Beaming, Esther nods. “Yes! He’s coming over to my place. Tonight.”
Your stomach gives a violent, nauseating churn and for a split second, you’re afraid you’ll be sick all over the table.
“Wow,” Maria says, incredulously. “I can hardly even believe it. My brother in law likes to keep to himself most of the time. I can’t picture him agreeing to a dinner date.”
Esther doesn’t seem offended—in fact, there’s a glimmer of pride in her eyes. “Well, you had best believe it,” she says with a smug smile. “Because tonight, I do in fact have a dinner date with Joel Miller.”
You still haven’t said a word.
You can’t speak.
You feel like you can’t even breathe.
All you want to do is get up and leave the table before you can hear another word come out of Esther’s mouth, but you know you can’t do that without raising suspicion—or making your jealousy painfully obvious.
Esther turns to you and waits expectantly for your reaction. “Well?”
“That’s great,” you manage to reply, giving her the best supportive smile you can muster under the circumstances. “I’m really happy for you, Esther.”
“Wait, so if you’re going to cook the man dinner, then does that mean you’re going to be his dessert?” Maria jokes, wiggling her eyebrows suggestively.
“Of course,” Esther smirks. “Oh, with the things I plan on doing to him tonight, I’ll have to go down to the church house tomorrow morning and confess all my sins.”
The women burst into a fit of schoolgirl giggles.
Suddenly, you feel even sicker than you did a minute ago, but you have no choice but to force yourself to laugh along with them.
Tumblr media
“Alright, come on, my love. Let’s pick up the pace. That’s a good girl,” you murmur softly in encouragement to Luna. You’re outside in the paddock hand walking the mare and observing her legs, searching for abnormalities in her trot. Ellie had mentioned she thought she’d seen the horse in some discomfort while she’d been out on an afternoon ride. Wanting to see it for yourself, you decided to take Luna on a stroll out in the paddock while Ellie and Dina are inside the stables taking care of the grooming. “Come on, pretty girl. Little bit faster now—”
The sound of Joel’s deep voice saying your name causes you to stop in your tracks. Stiffening, you glance over your shoulder.
He approaches the paddock, his rifle hanging over his shoulder by a worn, black leather strap—you immediately know he’s just gotten in from afternoon patrol. He’d mentioned to you that he had been taking on extra shifts, even working doubles after there had been sightings of potential raiders fifteen miles south of the gates. Afraid they’d draw closer to the commune, Tommy decided to heighten security, placing more men and women on the wall as well as on every patrol route.
“Hi,” you greet him. There’s a cool edge to your tone as you turn back towards Luna. You don’t even realize how hard you’re gripping the lead rope in your hand until you look down and notice how tightly your skin is stretched over your knuckles. “Ellie’s in Shimmer’s stall brushing her.”
Joel chuckles. “S’good to know, but I came to see you, darlin’,” he states, lowering his voice. There’s no one else out in the paddock, but he’d rather be safe than sorry. Being seen together can easily be played off by the fact that his kid’s working in the stables—but being overheard would be detrimental to yours and his blooming relationship. “Listen, I had an idea I wanted to run by you. Was thinkin’ we could meet out behind the barn tonight. Might be a bit safer than hangin’ out on my front porch—no risk of the neighbors seein’ us. What do you think?”
You don’t reply.
“We’re still on for tonight, ain’t we?” he asks, his hopefulness subtle, but present. “S’the first time all goddamn week I ain’t gotta work a double or do overnight patrol.”
You lift your unoccupied hand, resting it on Luna’s neck, focusing your eyes on her. “I don’t know, Joel. You tell me—are we still on for tonight?”
Frowning, Joel reaches out and places his hand on your arm—you immediately jump away, as if he’d burned you. “Hey, hey.” Though he’s confused, he remains composed. “What’s the matter?”
You try to meet his gaze, but you can’t even look at him. “Nothing, Joel.”
Stepping forward, he hooks a finger underneath your chin, lifting it as his eyes try finding yours. “Baby, look at me—”
“Joel, stop,” you hiss, swatting his hand away, your head furiously whipping around. “Don’t do that! Someone could see us.”
“Relax, darlin’. No one’s around. What the hell’s got you so worked up?” Perplexed by your strange behavior, Joel’s eyebrows pinch together. “There somethin’ I should know ‘bout? Did somethin’ happen with Luke?”
Your jaw clenches.
Either he’s a gifted actor or he’s genuinely clueless.
But Esther is your friend.
Surely Joel knows you would find out about their dinner date.
“Talk to me,” he encourages softly.
You release a small, but heavy sigh.
“I was having lunch in the mess hall with Martha and Maria today. Esther joined us and she told us all about how she invited you over to her place for dinner tonight.” You cringe at the way your own voice trembles. “She said you accepted.”
“Jesus, I knew that woman had a big fuckin’ mouth,” Joel mutters, irritably. He shakes his head. “Yeah, s’true. I accepted the invitation,” Noticing the disappointment—the hurt—that flashes in your eyes, he holds up his hands in defense as he begins to explain himself. “Look, it just happened. Me and Tommy were walkin’ to the mess hall after mornin’ patrol to grab a quick bite to eat before headin’ back out for afternoon watch when she came up to us and said hello. She asked me right then and there if I wanted to come over to her place for dinner—right in front of Tommy. She put me on the spot and I blurted out a yes ‘cause I knew Tommy would give me shit if I said no to her. Trust me baby, I wanted to tell her no. Almost did, but Tommy’s been insistent on help’ me meet someone. Figured acceptin’ one dinner would get his ass off my back.”
Crossing your arms over your chest, your eyes flit down and you stare at your boots in silence.
“Wait just a minute.” There’s a hint of amusement on Joel’s tone. “You ain’t jealous, are you darlin’?”
“I’m so glad you think this is funny,” you mumble, your face growing warm under his curious stare. You finally bring yourself to lift your gaze and it meets his. There’s no doubt in your mind that he’s being honest, but that does nothing to make you feel any better—or any less envious. Foolishly, you add, “She’s planning to seduce you, Joel. She said something about being your dessert.”
He smirks. “She really said that?”
You glare at him. “Are you fucking kidding me, Joel?”
Joel laughs. “Oh, c’mon now, peach. Y’know I’m just messin’ with you. Esther could serve me dinner naked and I still wouldn’t be tempted,” he reassures you, confidently. “Look, I’m just goin’ over to her place to have dinner with her. That’s all. After that, I’m gonna head back home and wait ‘til it’s time to see you. Alright?”
Anxiously, you nibble the inside of your cheek.
You believe him. Of course you believe him. But there’s another part of you, the jealous part of you, that isn’t thinking rationally. Esther’s one of the most beautiful women in the entire fucking town—maybe he feels certain he’s not interested now, but all it could take is one look into her crystal skies to make him realize he could find happiness with someone he doesn’t have to sneak around with.
“I’ll meet you tonight,” he promises. “I will.”
“Joel, what if something happens and you decide not to show?”
“M’gonna show, peach.”
“But Joel—”
You stop abruptly as Joel pivots on the heel of his boot and begins to walk away from you.
“Midnight,” he says over his shoulder. “Behind the barn.”
Tumblr media
Squinting, you hold your watch up to the moonlight to check the time.
It’s five minutes after twelve and Joel’s nowhere in sight.
He’s coming, you silently offer yourself the reassurance as the panic begins to settle in. Relax. He’s coming. He said he would be here, so he’ll be here.
…but what if he isn’t?
For all you know, Joel and Esther could be in her bed right now, tangled up in each other’s arms as they—
A pair of large, rough hands grab at your sides, startling you out of your thoughts.
Squealing in fear, you whirl around.
Joel doubles over slightly, muffling a laugh in the palm of his hand.
“Joel,” you hiss, narrowing your eyes at him. Slowly, your heartbeat slows, returning to its normal rhythm. “That wasn’t funny! You almost gave me a fucking heart attack!”
“Y’must have your head up in the clouds if you didn’t hear me comin’, darlin’.” Grinning, he reaches out and pulls you into his arms. He goes in for a kiss and chuckles again when you turn your face, his mouth meeting your temple instead of your lips. He gives your body a gentle squeeze. “C’mon, sweet girl. Don’t I get a kiss hello tonight?”
You lightly push him away. “That depends,” you state, taking a step backwards. “On whether or not you got a kiss from a certain blonde earlier this evening.”
Joel’s eyes twinkle. “Wow. You really are jealous, huh?”
You say nothing as you wait expectantly for his answer.
His smile fades slightly as he admits, “She, uh—she did try to kiss me tonight.”
Crestfallen, your heart sinks deeply.
“I dodged it,” he adds, quickly. “Look, Esther’s a nice woman and she’s real pretty—”
“Keep talking, Joel,” you mutter, crossing your arms over your chest. “You’re doing great.”
Joel exhales something caught between a scoff and a laugh. His fingers curl around your wrists as he tugs you forward into his chest once more. “But she ain’t you, peach.”
Surprised, you glance up at him, your lips parting slightly.
“Y’know what I was thinkin’ ‘bout the whole time I was with her?”
“What?”
“How fuckin’ bad I couldn’t wait for it to be over,” he tells you. “All I was doin’ was countin’ down the minutes ‘til I could go back home—and when I did go home, I started countin’ down the minutes ‘til it was time to come see you.”
The tense, taut muscles in your body finally relax.
“Really?”
“Swear it on my life,” Joel murmurs. “I’m hooked on you, baby. Been hooked since the first time you ever smiled at me. You remember that mornin’?”
“Of course I do. During winter, in the stables. You were in Buck’s stall, saddling him up when I walked by and saw you.” You laugh softly as you recall, “You didn’t smile back at me.”
Exhaling an amused huff through his nose, Joel presses his lips to your forehead. “Yeah, I know I didn’t,” he acknowledges quietly against your skin, his guilt evident. “But I couldn’t forget it. Even after all that time passed when I wasn’t here, I couldn’t fuckin’ forget it and I didn’t know why. And then when I came back, I saw you again and you gave me that same goddamn smile. You even know what it did to me, peach? Hell, do you even know what you do to me, baby?”
You lean forward, resting your head on his chest. Closing your eyes, you relish in the feeling of his heartbeat thumping softly against your cheekbone.
Joel nuzzles his face into your hair. “Don’t want anyone else but you,” he declares. “Swear it. You’ve got me, sweetheart. Alright?”
Eyes still closed, you make him the same promise. “And you’ve got me.”

I don't know if it is because Julie Plec didn't understand parenthood or just didn't care, but almost every character has a messed up relationship with the idea of parenthood.
Starting with Rebekah, whose entire identity becomes about being a mother. When she is first introduced, she behaves like an immature teenager with almost no maternal instincts or desires. But it quickly shifts in TO to focus on her desire to have a child. I am completely fine with a woman wanting to have children, but she never gave a real reason to want it. Just this general idea that she had always desired it. I get she likely would have been thinking about it when she was human since, during their human period, women tended to have children in their teen years and it was what all women did. But throughout her 1,000 years, we never see her seek that relationship with anyone. She briefly develops a protective relationship with April and then Davina, but they are easily pushed aside. She even abandons her relationship with Hope multiple times. It never seemed to me that she wanted to be a parent, rather wanted a baby.
This is even more obvious by the fact that Klaus 'adopts' Marcel. Rebekah could have adopted a child, or taken in someone throughout her long life. Now, it could have been that she feared Klaus would be angry and jealous, but this story is never shown. In fact, Klaus seems fine with Rebekah training Marcel, even after he was jealous of Elijah teaching him.
Speaking of Marcel, this whole storyline was problematic. The Mikaelsons take in this boy and then make him feel indebted to them. I've seen people argue that they didn't adopt Marcel, but rather took him in as a ward. Either way you look at it, Marcel was a child and deserved to be treated like one and not some trophy (a lot of white saviorism happening). I do think Elijah wanted to raise Marcel as a son but Klaus wouldn't let him. So instead, Klaus raises him as a friend which created a complicated relationship. I also hate how you can clearly see the difference in how Hope is protected versus how Marcel was raised. Whether it's sexist or racist or just based on him not being their biological family, it's problematic.
And then there is Hope. Hayley will always be my favorite parent in TVDU. Even when she was young and overwhelmed, you could tell her thoughts and actions were all about protecting Hope. Yes, some things she did weren't the smartest plan, but she was also a scared 20-something-year-old trying to survive against enemies that were 1000x her age. She risked her life repeatedly for her daughter and would sacrifice anything for Hope to be safe and happy. She was the one character I felt truly understood what it meant to be a parent.
I always get in trouble when I criticize Klaus as a parent, but he was a narcissistic parent for 90% of the show and that honestly needs its own post.
It's not surprising the Mikaelsons don't know how to be parents. Mikael wanted to train them to be warriors and Esther had a similar feel to Rebekah, that she wanted babies but didn't know how to be a mother. I know Esther and Mikael likely had their own childhood traumas, but that's another conversation.
I liked that Kol and Davina never discussed children. Davina was young and Kol never expressed desires to be a father. Not everyone needs to want to have children. To me, Elijah was the only Mikaelson sibling who expressed a deeper interest in being a parent. Yet, he still didn't understand the full extent. He essentially acted like a parent to his siblings but ended up just having messed up relationships with each of them. He wanted to step in with Marcel and even Hope. I like to think he learned his lesson from Marcel and fought harder for Hope, but again, the whole family just fought harder for Hope.
I also think Freya having a child makes sense, but Vincent being the father had me baffled. He hated Elijah for what he did to Davina until Elijah died, but forgave Freya for her role? Not only forgave her but decided to help continue the Mikaelson line. I just find it hard to believe that he would have agreed to help. But Julie wanted to expand the Mikaelsons and then do nothing with it I guess.
Tumblr media
Even in TVD, this idea that everyone wants to be a parent is pushed. Again, yes some people do, but not everyone needs to want children.
I understood Jo, Alaric, and even Stefan's desire to have children. This need to protect and care for others was built into them. We see Alaric (before his character sucked) basically adopt Elena and Jeremy. Jo was always protective of her siblings and loved caring for others so much she became a doctor. Stefan just always had this paternal need to take care of others in my opinion. I even see this with Elena and Bonnie. (Also the fact that Bonnie's future is never mentioned -- we hear about everyone else but what was Bonnie up to in Legacies??)
But Caroline and Damon having children made no sense to me. Caroline had dreams of a career and seemed adventurous, but then was forced into pregnancy at what 23 years old while she was still in school? Yes, we see she gets to become a journalist, but in Legacies we don't hear anything about her life or career. She isn't even there as a mother. Caroline's character basically disappears.
Damon never expressed a desire for children that I can remember. He enjoyed his vampire life and I can't see him giving it up to be a mortal, stay-at-home dad.
There are a lot of problems with the show, Friends, but one thing I've always loved is how they show the different pathways to parenthood. Pheobe is a surrogate for her brother, Monica adopts, and Rachel is a single mother. There isn't one way to be a parent, as long as you always put the children's safety and happiness first.
TVDU could have learned a thing about it. For a show that loved to randomly have a found family trope, it was also ready to throw it out the window the second biological family showed up. That's not how found families work, they are family through and through.
Also, and I cannot say this enough, not everyone needs to want to have children. Even women.

WIP WEDNESDAY
Tagged by @paperstorm @thisbuildinghasfeelings and @carlos-in-glasses
Maybe if I post more daemon fic I'll actually get around to finishing it! Here is the snippet I posted a few months ago.
Daemon AU/fusion (each character’s soul in the form of an animal companion) breakup era/ice storm fic… Esther is TK's daemon and Consuela is Carlos's. They're both dogs!
Here is a flashback scene.
-
They were sitting up against the headboard, shoulders pressed together, sharing the remnants of a gallon of vanilla ice cream right out of the carton.
TK had found several boxes of old photos in his dad’s closet and had brought one of them into the bedroom to show Carlos. There were pictures of his parents before they’d gotten divorced, of his grandparents who had both died before TK graduated high school, but most of them were of TK.
“How old were you there?”
TK touched the photo, which showed him wearing a private school uniform. Esther was perched on his backpack in the form of a sparrow. “Seven, I think?”
Carlos grinned. “You look so cute. I bet you were a little terror, weren’t you?”
“I was not,” TK said, pretending to be affronted. “I’ll have you know, I got all A’s.”
“Mmhmm,” Carlos murmured. “You’ll notice that’s not what I asked.”
TK pursed his lips together to keep from smiling. “Well…sometimes I had some trouble focusing on the lessons.”
“Uh huh.”
“So Esther and I found ways to distract ourselves,” he said.
Esther looked up at him, a thread of amusement running through their bond. She and Consuela were lying next to one another on the floor, barely touching. Consuela perked up and licked Esther’s nose to get her attention again.
“Which I’m sure went over well with your teachers,” said Carlos.
TK remembered the most unimpressed look on his mother’s face when she walked into the principal’s office, dressed for court, with Ginsburg perched on her shoulder. He looked as unimpressed as Gwyn did, and Esther shifted into a caterpillar, the tiniest thing she could, and hid in TK’s pocket to escape their gaze.
“Did you know,” TK said, stretching his leg out over Carlos’s, “that the rhinoceros beetle can lift up to 850 times its own weight?”
Carlos narrowed his eyes at him. “I did not.”
“And did you know,” TK continued, “that the Gameboy Advance weighed just under five ounces?”
Carlos lifted his eyebrows. “What did you do?”
“Well, my third grade teacher took away my Gameboy because I was playing with it in class, so we decided to get it back.” TK felt a hint of annoyance through his bond with Esther as she eyed him from the floor. “Okay, yes, Esther objected, but she was bored too.”
“So you got caught trying to steal your Gameboy back,” said Carlos.
TK squinted. “I mean, is it really stealing if it was ours to begin with?”

Just finished watching NPMD and here are my observations:
Oh starting right away with Richie's death
OHHHH It's the first time we actually hear Lauren and Jon sing together, even for just a lil bit
The Watcher World callback with the hammer and the phone
Every Mariah character: MY PICTURES ON MY PHONE, Me: gurl back it up on Cloud
Awwww Ruth
That one person who cheered louder than anyone else when Pete stood up for himself
Everyone collectively going "awww" when Pete shows up with the black eye
The Chasitys have such a cute color scheme. Would wear. But like. Mark's outfit has such gay vibes tho. Like. Stereotypical gay outfit.
Pfft that one person who cackled the Loudest during the dinner scene
Max, climbing in the tub with his jeans on: *vine voice* He's washing him and his jeans. He's washing him and his jeans.
Oh Mark showing up after Dirty Girl is literally like that scene with Hanschen during My Junk in Spring Awakening.
LISTEN. About two years ago, I was watching SAF and my dad looked over my shoulder AND HE THOUGHT JOEY WAS LIN MANUEL MIRANDA
Max: I'm gonna kick your ass!, Me: *Ted voice* Not his head
Wait. But his reaction to the prank is so wholesome and precious actually.
Gurl. Just let it stay an accident and destroy the footage instead. Don't be stupid.
I remember saying Bryce as Brenda. Glad that it happened.
Hatchet Town is basically just "Your Fault" from Into the Woods huh
Pete and Ruth sound a lot like Scrags and Esther ngl
I love Kyle. Himbo dude.
The shift when Clivesdale is introduced.
The way everyone also awwed when Richie got appreciated. I don't think a show goes by without Jon's character being loved
It's interesting that the hs kids don't want to be mean and aren't inherently mean, they were just pressured into being mean
Ohhh. He got bedazzled. Like Edward Cullen.
I want the cast recording so I can hear Jon and Will sing at each other more clearly
Boy Jerry's a reporter? I mean sure, I assumed they have jobs when it's off-season for camp, but I didn't expect journalism
What does Bryce's character know about Boy Jerry's murder spree tho?
Everyone's talking about Boy Jerry throwing Girl Jeri under the bus, but not Dan agreeing with Boy Jerry in accusing Donna
Hatchet Town is just Your Fault from Into the Woods huh
Steph protecting Ruth parallels Steph looking after Hannah
hc that Joey's character in the bbq monologues is whoever played Joey's roles in the Hatchetfield production of TTO
Jon's delivery ohmygod lmaoooo
Oh and Mariah's character, Caitlyn/Kaitlin, feels like a mini Zoey
Ruth sweetieeee you are so brilliant
Ruth having a mushroom on her shirt like the "I'm a failure" meme
The way they pull off Max's teleportation is so so good
Kim is the queen of horrified screams now
Tumblr media
YESSSS HE SAID THE MIRANDA RIGHTS he ain't got a warrant tho
Considering tgwdlm was 2018, and it's 2023 now, then it HAS been FIVE YEARS since Peter asked for his hot chocolate from Emma
GARY PUPPY PAID ATTENTION WHEN HE HEARD PAUL. Because of he still recognizes Jon.
Tumblr media
Pfft Paul having more balls than Pete
Okay it's vague enough that it can be interpreted that Paul doesn't die. I didn't think Emma would do the Linda screech tho. It's always enough to startle and disorient tho.
THE COSTUMES THE COSTUMES I LOVE THE COSTUMES
Oh I have a theory behind what Tinky says. But it's going in a separate post
The LiBs going "WE DON'T WANT YOUR PHONE"
In Once Upon a Time, it is customary to give up "the thing you love most" in exchange for extremely powerful magic.
Ahahaha as a Catholic I can confirm that Grace's opinion on Catholicism is mostly correct
I feel like if Pete did die, it would prevent him from turning into a horny bastard like Ted tho. Which may potentially save him from Tinky
And Pete letting himself get shot to save the woman he loves, would parallel Ted's sacrifice in Ape Man
That one person who very audibly goes "WHAT THE FUCK" when Max takes the bullet for Pete
Grace saying her type is dudes who come back from the dead. And I'm like. "AND THEY'RE BOTH RIPPED AS FUCK"
Annnd now the tables have turned on Joey after eating Sally out in the choir room.
Aaaat least she can't get knocked up?
Where'd she get that cigarette tho
The hair flip that accompanied the spin
GARY PUPPY CUDDLED UP TO THE LAPTOP WHEN HE HEARD WIGGLY
Kim's teacher character is so cute
The "awwww" when Pete and Steph came to homecoming together. Also Pete's bow tie will always match whatever Steph's wearing
Are we all in agreement that Jon and Will's homecoming characters are dating?
Grace. YOU ASKED.
Hmm. A soul-sucking spell especially targeting guys? Sounds like what Sheila had.
"Guys who came before"? Who else did she hook up with between the ghost's death and homecoming?
It's the return of Angela's iconic witch laugh
But Grace how long is that gonna work out for you. You gonna eventually use contraception? Have magic contraception? Or eventually get knocked up? Just sayin'

A Star Is Born - Born That Way
Opening Thoughts/ Remarks
How is the film related to the social context of the country during the film’s production?
The film takes place in post war America. Employment was shifting a lot post World war II, and a lot more money was being allocated to film and the world of Hollywood to hopefully allow people to escape their realities. Women were being made to be stars, so the plot of this film is a reflection of that, although the original was made almost 20 years prior. Although it is not a large plot point, segregation was being challenged and eventually destroyed during the mid 1950s during the release. There are Black characters, but only on camera when performing as part of an ensemble. There was also an emphasis on the nuclear family, encouraging people to conform to standards set by the American government.
In what ways are the performance spaces separated from the narrative spaces in the film?
They’re interconnected. Like discussed in the reading, Patullo talks about the integrated narrative and spectacle. Something that relates and drives the narrative and plot, but does not explicitly draw on the character’s film experiences.
youtube
“You gotta have me. Go with you. All the time” is the line Esther sings when escorting Norman off stage. I think this is very indicative of the relationship between the two throughout the film.
youtube
Esther sings this after meeting Norman and him offering her dinner to which she declined. The song isn’t from Esther to Norman but it seems rather fitting for their circumstances, especially after admitting that he is a nice man, drunk or sober - her being the only one who views him that way at this point in the film.
How is spectacle integrated into the film’s narrative?
I think disorderly conduct is the film’s first use of spectacle in the way that it distracts from what audiences should be experiencing as a pleasant, entertainment. Instead of focusing on the performers, the audience in the film and of the film now shift their focus to a drunk man. This is that integration into the narrative. Esther as a character is definitely the most spectacle aspect of the narrative. Her life and career because something for audiences in the film and watching the film to gawk at, judge, and form opinions on. The choices she makes career wise and personality are intended to be analyzed and publicized to push her narrative and character development. The film relies on it.
With the exception of the opening dance, Esther performs a lot in red, either symbolically showcasing her relationship with success or failure. Her signature lip is also red. Like in the film preview, she runs around pleading with producers, agents, and managers in a grey dress with red linings and runs into several rooms where she is turned away, wearing red and some neutral colors.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What is the role of dance and movement in relation to the film’s narrative and spectacle?
Dance is less of a narrative for this film, but there is a lot of significance in the movement. When they are dancing, it usually is a matter of spectacle or to distract from what the characters are saying. This makes sense because although the dancing is the subject of that scene, the dancers aren’t the spectacle, the story in the song is.
Pattulo says in the reading that the second type of musical attempts to bridge the gap between narrative and number, aiming for integration of spectacle into the film’s primary narrative structure. I believe, at times, this is the intention with the use of performances to demonstrate narrative.
The first mention of dance and there’s a public performance, seems to be spectacle as there are women in pinked out traditional Native American regalia and feathered outfits. There is somewhat of a rodeo happening where people are riding, standing on, jumping around horses, along with dancers doing ballet, modern. The women are wearing red feathers and intense red makeup and cowboy hats. The chaos of the scene seems to be a proper introduction to Norman’s character and his restless and relentless energy and “do anything i want attitude” he is drunk and ensues chaos on stage for all the performers. Because he is a spoiled celebrity, he constantly gets enabled in excuse of him being that star.
Large dance numbers with huge productions are used in this film as a spectacle to either project the mood of the scene or to distract, and somewhat, project the feelings of the characters at the moment.
In what ways does impossibility within the film ensure the audience escapes from reality?
There is a segment of scenes where the director uses audio over literal film pictures. It occurs during moments between between when Esther and Norman meet. Upon researching, I think now it was because of the scenes being cut from the original film after re releasing in theaters a shorter version, by 30 minutes.
Tumblr media
They use it very interestingly, and I am still uncertain about the intention here. For weeks, Esther finds another job while Norman leaves the set of his film in efforts to find her. I am gathering that time has stopped for these two. Although Esther feels this new fire under her ass, she’s without the man that put it there. Norman can not be satisfied until he has seen what’s become of her.
Contradictory to the question, the film ensures the audiences in immersed into the reality of the movie/Hollywood industry. The film is strategic about showing the trials and tribulations of Hollywood as Esther is transitioning into her new role. She visibly struggles to adjust and acclimate to the speed of “the business.” they show a lot of set designing, and behind the scenes rehearsals. I suppose this shows the impossibility of their public lives and their relationship with their celebrity. As people, we tend to put celebrities in a box that they live in in our brains.
youtube
Discussion Questions
Does it feel backstage for this musical to use predominantly song over dance/movement to push the narrative?
Consider the film's portrayal of fame and celebrity culture in the 1950s. How does it reflect the societal attitudes towards stardom during that time? Are there parallels or differences with contemporary views on fame and spectacle?
Do the musical numbers serve as spectacle alone, or do they deepen our understanding of the characters and their emotional journeys?
Thank you for listening!!!

Insane question so no obligation to respond, but for talk shop tuesday how do you square the circle with regards to the sort of contradiction between al2rnia as originally developed and al2rnia as continually worked on(i admit i dont know how applicable the latter is to you but aivide the prequel was still being edited fairly recently into last year and i dont doubt you have some input vis a vis vinbre the epilogue) with such a large collaboration i cant imagine even the majority of original artists are still interested in the project and of course the scope of the narrative has shifted substantially, in conclusion what is the fate of justay cowboy
omg, insane question but a very fun one! your question is almost two questions, the first one being how to square my own artistic process/evolution as al2rnia evolves in the way i and other people write it, and the second being how to square written material (atp, vtn) with the greater al2rnia paratext presented by People Saying Things In A Discord Server. they're two distinct approaches to me, at any rate, so i'm going to address them separately.
regarding PART THE FIRST, the real answer is that i just have to address the Mortifying Ordeal of Publicly Editing My Work. Aivide parts one and two were uploaded to ao3 when i was 20 years old and i have been very sneakily adding stuff and moving it around as time goes on, both in terms of my own evolution as a writer and in terms of new stuff happening in vinbre that becomes immediately relevant to aivide. is this a particularly effective way to construct a narrative? not really lmao, and in another world i would have revised and uploaded aivide in its entirety post-vtn completion, but i can't blame 2021 me for wanting it in public, so there's really nothing to do but say "this is on ao3. it is not a big deal." and make the evolution of the story a semi-public process.
regarding PART THE SECOND, i think it's a question of clear delineation between what is on paper / immediately relevant to the scope of my project, and what is not. things about characters created by not-me that are relevant to aivide include many of the events of vinbre the novel, given carett's connection to nora, sasara's life and online self-presentation at age 22ish and older, eubala's life trajectory and current position and demeanor, and raigne and bettah as they are when they work in eubala's office. i feel a very strong obligation to write those parts of the world in a way that is true to the things established by my collaborators, and it's my job in that sense to not really trouble myself more than i need to with things that are not directly connected to the project at hand. it would have been very self-deluding and counterproductive to approach aivide the prequel with the task of "THIS IS PART TWO OF ???? IN A GRAND EPIC FANSESSION WITH ???? NUMBER OF CONTRIBUTIONS!!" aivide the prequel does set up some of her ingame stuff to a very limited extent, but the story has to be able to work without that.
so i guess tl;dr i have not ever troubled myself overmuch with the fate of justay cowboy in the process of writing aivide the prequel, because i have approached it with the mindset that the only Truly Established texts i'm working from are vinbre the novel, which immediately precedes it, and the aivide characterization-relevant plans i've discussed that i feel very confident about the large-scale stability of. vinbre and aivide's stories as published are compelling stories as the novels they are, with or without the greater context. the materiality of the world that esther and julia established and i worked from in aivide with their help really helps with that. so i guess the answer is that aivide the prequel is not set-up for anything except for the things i'm completely confident about or have discussed with friends as relevance dictates, and it does not directly build on anything except for vinbre, which is now published and complete. and really good.

Hi, I just saw your post about Jewish high holidays, and I was wondering what Jewish holidays should be given off? I’m working on my Master’s and want to be a university professor eventually, and I want to make note of what days to never give assignments over one day, or what days to call professors attention to as a TA. I remember getting a midterm on Yom Kippur once and the girl behind me struggling to plan writing it early so she could go home, and I don’t want to make anyone deal with that
So there's different "levels" of holidays in Judaism, especially in regards to observance.
Yom Kippur is the holiest day of the year and a fast day, and I think it's a given it should be given off. It's honestly upsetting it's not a mandated day-off in the US.
The appropriate well-wish for a gentile to give to a Jewish person in the days coming up to Yom Kippur is "Have a meaningful day."
Rosh HaShana is the Jewish New Year, and it's two days long. Ideally I would give off for Rosh HaShana as well.
The appropriate well-wish is "Shana Tova" ("Have a good year") or "Have a sweet new year"
Pesach (Passover) is also super important in Judaism, especially the Seder, which in Israel is one night and outside of Israel is two nights. I would give off for the first two days of Pesach if possible.
The appropriate well-wish is "Chag Sameach" ("Happy Holiday") or "Happy Pesach"
Sukkot and Shavuot are Regalim, (Pesach is the third Regel) which means they are important agricultural pilgrimage holidays. Nowadays we don't have the Temple so there's no pilgrimage, but Sukkot and Shavuot are also super important. Sukkot begins five days after Yom Kippur, and the first two nights outside of Israel are observed as important holidays. (One night in Israel). Sukkot is technically a week long, as is Pesach, but work is permitted in certain cases on Chol HaMoed (days that aren't the begining holidays but are still important).
The appropriate well-wishes are "Chag Sameach" or "Happy Sukkot/Shavuot"
EDIT: Forgot to mention Tisha B'Av. Tisha B'Av is the saddest day of the year and a fast day, and it's one of the most difficult fasts because it's long and during the hot Summer. I would be patient with students/workers and allow them time off if they need it.
The appropriate well-wish is "have a meaningful day."
These are the holidays for which work isn't permitted, and the laws follow similar laws to Shabbat.
There are other important holidays, during which work is permitted, but it would still be ideal to allow students/workers to miss an hour or two for services.
Purim is a holiday commemorating Mordechai and Esther's victory over Haman. The day before Purim is observed by some as a fast day, so I would be patient with workers/students on this day. One of the Mitzvot of Purim is reading/ hearing the Megilla being read, which is done the night of Purim (so the night before technically, since Jewish days begin the night before) and during Purim day. Often Megilla reading is done during Morning Services at synagogue, so I would be patient with people who might come in late in the morning due to this.
The appropriate well-wish is "Chag Sameach" or "Happy Purim".
Chanukah is a fun holiday, but there really are no restrictions. The Chanukiah/Menorah is lit at night, so giving workers/students off is only an issue for night classes/shifts.
The appropriate well-wish is "Chag Sameach" or "Happy Chanukah".
Saturday in general is also a complicated day to have work due on. I know most professors don't have class on Saturday, but they may make assignments due on Saturday, Saturday night, or Friday night, which can be difficult for students who observe Shabbat. I would just give students the option to turn assignments in on Sunday instead.
I really appreciate your desire to create a more inclusive environment for Jewish students, and university environments would be so much better if there were more people like you.

𖤓 INTRODUCTION
Hello, and welcome to my blog! The name I use online is Esther, although I also go by Leigh or Vera. My main tag is Leigh's shenanigans ⟡.
I actually used to run a shifting account (my-reality-my-rules), but I'm not active on it anymore. This is an entirely new account—dedicated solely to writing (art as well, if ever). I haven't gotten around to updating my main over a year now due to a lot of personal reasons, but I felt confident enough to start again on Tumblr. So, here I am.
This blog is for the stuff I've written, original and otherwise. It's actually directly related to my old main, if anything, because some of the content I use in my fics were things I've mentioned in the past on that account. Feel free to browse through it if you so wish, although it's unlikely that I'll revisit it (and the sideblogs) at this point.
I intend to use this blog as a means to track my fics, and at the same time share them with people. Here's the masterlist. It's still quite short at the moment, what with most of what I've written being longfics and poetry, but that's another reason why I set up this new account. I was hoping to make more use of my ability to write, and pen things that aren't just the ones I've already made.

𖤓 WHAT I WRITE
๋࣭⭑ FANFICTION || ORIGINAL STORIES
Before anything else, and certainly before anyone ever calls me out for it again; I love writing in purple prose. That's not to say that I try to make everything I do about it—but I'm hung up about classic literature enough that I wanted to emulate the style of older authors as I write. That's just a heads-up for anyone who comes across my stuff, because God knows I've received many complaints about it. I don't mind the criticism, although the constant negativity got annoying for a bit.
Most of what I have are (admittedly) indulgent self-inserts. On that note, I mix my other passions (such as philosophy, which I'm majoring in) in with the fic(s) when need be. So long as I think themes can intersect, and it makes sense to me, I'll mishmash them together.
Also, I'm a huge fan of DD:DNE. No, I don't support those things in real life (duh)—but I absolutely love seeing it in fictional works. With that, I've taken to drafting my own pieces for it.
๋࣭⭑ POETRY
This is where it all began! Shoutout to my tenth grade English and Literature teachers for truly pushing me to pursue this. I don't think I'd've started writing fanfiction or other original works if it wasn't for them encouraging me to start doing poetry.
I just go where my mind takes me, in this case. Sometimes, I write poetry for fandoms; and sometimes, I write about my own life. As it goes, though; I'm more active in writing prose than poetry, although my poems are still up online as well.
๋࣭⭑ JOURNALLING
When I simply don't have the motivation or the right ideas to draft up anything creative, I just jot down my thoughts. I have several journals here at home, although not all of what I've written made it in my fics or poetry (or otherwise). I plan to post a silly little compilation of them, though. Someday.

𖤓 REQUESTS
Feel free to drop an ask, a submission, or a DM.
๋࣭⭑ GUIDELINES
GENERAL INFORMATION: I'm willing to write fluff, smut, angst, and DD:DNE. I'm mostly versed in the latter two (lol childhood trauma for the win), but I think I can at least whip up a decent one-shot or so for the former two categories.
ON REQUESTS: I'm down to write anything, so long as I know I can do it. No limits for me. You can drop in the vilest little details in an ask, and I won't even blink. That being said, at least specify if it's going to be NSFW so I can tag it properly. If you're still unsure on whether or not I'll be willing or confident to write what you want, send me a DM, and we can hash it out ((:
๋࣭⭑ FANDOMS
As of 2024, the most popular ones I'm indulging in include: Ace Attorney, Death Note, Harry Potter, Naruto, and Resident Evil (note: I've only gotten into RE fairly recently, so I might not take requests for this one as much as the others).
I like classic literature too, though I'm only writing for one old fandom at the moment. My main fixations include: José Rizal's Noli Me Tángere and El Filibusterismo, Vladimir Nabokov's Lolita, and Miguel de Cervantes' Don Quixote.
Although not often, I also enjoy consuming and doing a bit of RPF (which circles Historical Fiction, but I'm not too versed in it); and I mostly use this one to feed my delulu fantasies of Tom Hughes, Cillian Murphy, and Christian Bale. I've taken to classic rock bands too—mostly Metallica, Megadeth, and Guns N' Roses, though.
๋࣭⭑ TECHNICALITIES
POV: Second Person (especially for poetic flair) or Third Person (especially for canon characters). Unfortunately, I'm not as comfortable writing in the First Person perspective (unless it's something to do with poetry and/or journalling, or if it's truly necessary for the storytelling itself).
POSTING SCHEDULE: It usually takes me at least one week to finish 5k words. Depending on the number of requests I get, the queue might get slogged-up. Regardless, I hope to at least meet a quota of 5-10 per month. The worst case is if I take several months to finish—which is improbable, but not impossible.
OTHER NOTES: Just because you sent in a request, it doesn't necessarily mean that I'll be able to get to working on it in time—or that I'll immediately take to the effort of doing it. Putting in an ask/submission doesn't immediately mean I'll do it. That being said; I'll still do my best to work on anything dropped into my inbox ((:

“I’ve marked the page for you,” she insisted, although there was nothing to insist on. Her feet remained firmly in place, her eyes boring into the space between his shoulder blades right until Chevalier turned around to face her. “I hope you don’t mind. I didn’t have a proper bookmark on hand, but… it shouldn’t have caused any damage.”
Page one hundred fifty four; […] The Countess retained little trust. Reputable be her name, noble be her mind, and praised be her ambition, she lost any regard she once held for human hearts. [...]
Evening. Perhaps it was a little too late, but even so, Esther stepped out of the guest room, the book clutched to her chest. Bambi whimpered on the other side of the door, scratched against it, both defeated and deflated after a long day. Truth be told, had he been any less responsible in his duty to protect her, he’d already doze off by the hearth, the tiny hands of Lady Marianne having smoothed his charred-like coat a time (or a few) too many.
“I’ll be back soon,” Esther assured, to another scratch. With a heavy heart, she turned on her heel, and marched further into the dark corridor.
Her footfall gained a company of its own, its echoes reverberating through the hallway, multiplying and splitting upon meeting the walls, the hard stone floor a mirror sending out a distortion of what it saw. Portraits shifted in their gilded frames, various ladies and lords gossiping between themselves, winking and snickering while nobody watched. They whispered, ate food from the still life, ventured out into barren landscape cliffs basked in soft dawn light, all just to freeze, stop mid-laugh whenever Esther’s gaze slid across them. Her brows furrowed, her steps stilled. Her eyes lingered on the visage locked in oil paint, the woman in question seemingly answering her gaze. The brushed-on lips quivered into a grin, a shiver sneaking up Esther’s spine. She resumed walking, her mind set on finding Chevalier’s room, and doing so fast… Faster, and even faster the longer she watched.
The door flickered near the end of the corridor. Esther hurried, book clutched firmly to her chest, the sound of her steps weaving itself into thundering clouds above her head… But then, she stopped, the brass knob staring at her questioningly. Just a couple paces, nothing more, and she’d reach it. Esther took a deep breath, and this time soundless, walked again.
Knock.
No reply.
Knock.
Esther turned the knob, and pushed the door open; as expected, the room was lit, and not at all empty. Between the sofa in maroon quilted leather, oak bed, the imported carpet, and blinds that somehow seemed to be taken straight out of a sea-side cottage, what stood out the most was a tall bookcase, filled to the very brim with foreign volumes. Esther sighed – to no surprise, Chevalier stood with his back towards her, eyes scrutinising the various titles.
“It wouldn’t hurt to say ‘Come in’, ” she grumbled to herself, just to be answered by silence. Well, factually speaking, it indeed wouldn’t hurt him, so what was the point of even mentioning that much. Esther shook her head, and changed the topic, “I apologise for brining your book back late.”
“Leave it on the bedside table.”
He extended his hand towards her. Esther did not wait to pass him the book.
“I’d also like to thank you for considering my request. Lady Marianne was much easier to calm down than during her last visit to the palace,” she went on with her chatter, cautiously glancing at the walls.
Page one hundred fifty four, a neatly folded handkerchief separating it from page one hundred fifty five. Chevalier unravelled it slowly, a barely visible crease forming between his brows.
Esther continued, “We took a stroll through the orchard. Seems like lady Lavigne’s considering investing into cider, the apple saplings are sure to wield fruit in… perhaps four, to five years.”
Their eyes barely met. As indifferent as ever, Chevalier folded the handkerchief back, and put it in his pocket.
“The spine of the book was not damaged this time, but you’d do well to remember not to mark the pages with something this thick, simpleton,” he remarked.
“Understood.” Esther turned on her heel and took a step towards the door, her hand already resting on the knob.
"Is Bambi not with you?”
She looked over her shoulder. “He was tired, so I left him in my room.”
Something flickered over Chevalier’s face, gone almost before it appeared. “The last –“
“I remember,” Esther interrupted, her fingers pressed against her throat. Her lungs felt tight, but even so, they still breathed. Despite or through her hesitation, she pushed the door open, Chevalier striding towards her. “Oh?” She did not stop, not for a moment.
“The last meeting has been delayed.”
Esther didn’t question him any further, even though she found it hard to match his pace. It was… much preferable to being on her own, as laughable as Chevalier might find it.
Night shifted to dawn undisturbed, just to shed the last remaining shadows in presence of the sun itself. The breakfast had been served, yet… Esther excused herself fast. Her stomach grumbled quietly as she lay back down on the bed, not quite upset, but clearly not thrilled either, not a single laid out dish being something she could safely eat. Blue cheese, fried vegetables and meats, raw fish – perhaps if eggs were not seasoned so spicily she could smell it without even trying to, she’d take a risk! But alas, she had to satisfy herself with a cup of tea, and then… leave, Lady Lavigne not sparing her even a single glance, unlike Lady Marianne. Esther winced at the thought alone –
“Woof!” Pointy ears pointed at her, further supported in their inquiry by the big, curious eyes.
“Thanks, Bambi. You always get it,” she laughed and patted his head, the dog climbing into her lap. “Hey, hey, you’re a bit too big for tha –”
Knock.
Esther ushered Bambi back down onto the floor. She smoothed out the covers, ran her hands over her blouse and skirt.
“Yes?” she asked, the door creaking open. Lady Marianne peeked inside.
“Mommy said she is going on a walk, and that Prince Chevalier is coming too, and I too,” she mumbled, all of her attention directed at her shoes. “Esther, will you go with me too? I don’t wanna go…”
“Of course.” Esther stood up immediately. “And Bambi’s going to accompany us, hm?”
Bambi barked; Marianne laughed; river hummed quietly, water reaching up to slither against the fortified banks. Esther watched carefully as the girl chased after the dog, kicking off clouds of dust with each sharp turn she took, just for the both of them to duck between the trees on the other side of the road.
“Princess, the dragon is retreating!” Esther cheered after them. She averted her eyes for but a moment, Chevalier and Lady Lavigne’s silhouettes moving further down the orchard path. Orchards; the vineyards; the winery itself; the storage facilities; finally, sampling, she revised in her head.
“Esther, Esther!” little Marianne called, skirt held in both hands as she bolted towards her.
“Yes, Lady Marianne?”
“Can you and Bambi play with me tomorrow too?”
Esther fell silent for a moment. The official reason for their visit was… verifying the validity of the exclusivity offer broached by the Lavignes’ regarding supplying the palace cellars….
“I’m afraid I do not know,” Esther offered with an apologetic smile. However, that much seemed to only upset Marianne.
“Why?!” she roared through uneven breaths, face read from exercise and covered in sweat.
“Prince Chevalier is very busy, so he may want to go back tomorrow, and I and Bambi will be going with him,” she explained, wincing internally at what, or much rather why, she had to phrase things this way.
“No! I want you to stay! Esther, stay! I like playing with you best!”
Esther crouched down. “Don’t be sad, Lady Marianne. If all goes well, we will see each other plenty, really.”
“That’s what all those uncles mommy told me not to talk to say! And then they don’t visit! Or visit much! Much! Much! Later! And then we don’t play!”
“Uncles?” Esther asked, desperately trying to hold back a frown. Alas, it was not enough – the girl covered her mouth with her tiny hands, black eyes opening wide as she realised that she said something she shouldn’t have. Little Marianne shook her head fervently. She swirled around. She neglected to lift her skirt up, still holding her lips sealed, and broke into a dash. Just forward, forward, just right alongside the bank –
“Marianne, no – !”
The water splashed. It bubbled as if boiled, lurched and heaved, but… Nobody came up.
Esther got to her feet. She ran, fingers pulling at the clasps holding her capelet in place.
The garment fell to the ground. Esther dropped her bag.
She jumped off into the river after Marianne.
