I found out that my first memory was actually 3 months before either my first word or first step.
I was thinking in full sentences before 3 months before I said my first word. No wonder I still struggle with thinking but forgetting to speak aloud.

Dear Gus & Magnus,
My friend Katherine gave Gus a robot duo that she said her son Silas would never use recently. We've downloaded a corresponding app that lets him do some basic coding that results in the robot following Gus's commands. It really is cool. Anyway, tonight Gus worked on a thank you card for Katherine that said, "Thank you for Dash and Dot," which are the robots' names. I was blown away at Gus's handwriting. I thought Mom had helped him write the words, but she didn't. Also, his drawing of the robots was impressive. He's a very smart boy. I found myself at the table, staring at him in awe. I can't believe he's so capable already. I said, "Gus, do you know how proud of you I am?"
And without missing a beat, he said, "So, so proud."
Which made me even prouder.
Dad.

SIDENOTE: I'm also really proud of Magnus, who strung together his first steps today. I was at work when Mom called to tell me. He took more when I got home.

The difference in signal transmission speed between myelinated and non myelinated nerves has long been known. The recent discovery that myelin cells are much more than electrical capacitors but constitute a chemical sensory signal transmission ability equivalent to the traditional sensory nervous system. Subsequent research on the novel sense suggest that early cessation of myelin coverage of afferent sensory nerves are related to increased risk behaviour in young adults and is associated with an increase in morbidity and mortality, serial unsuccessful relationships and a higher incidence of irresponsible and anti social behaviours.
The findings question conventional social structures and education systems, but most disconcerting of all allude that legal age conventions are coincidental to both the former as well as the causes of early cessation of afferent neurocortex sensory nerve bundles. Given that the normal cessation of myelin sheath coverage occur after twenty three years of age, the countries arguing for a lowering of the legal age of consent are not only guilty of causing harm to the young adult population, but inadvertently aggravating the already high prevalence of early onset of cognitive decline, dementia and late stage fallout of developmental milestones that are all associated with early cessation of coverage.

When babies started to walk, they came off the swaddling board, and boys and girls would be dressed in similar gowns and put in the care of older children or their mother – or, in aristocratic families, sent away to a wet nurse until they were about four years old.

Things I have become more aware of since discovering I have hypotonia.
Sitting down on ground.
Leaning against tables
Leaning against walls.
Hyperextending many joints.
Choking on my own spit.
Rotating a joint the wrong direction
Pain hours after rotating a joint the wrong way.

Dear Gus & Magnus,
Magnus still isn't sleeping. Mom and I are exhausted. And we think she's catching the cold that you two have had. Luckily, Magnus had a well-child doctor's appointment scheduled for today anyway, so we just made that appointment a sick-child appointment.
Also, worth noting, Magnus has begun stringing two words together: "Mama, no." And he's doing this thing where he gets the remote, points to the TV and says, "Elmo!" over and over.
I took this picture when I got home because I liked looking up as I walked toward the house and seeing Mom in the window.
Dad.
Little Rock, Arkansas. 12.12.2022 - 5.16pm.
SIDENOTE: We need to get our Christmas lights up, but my God, we're so underwater and how are all the other parents keeping it together? Single parents out there, you're absolutely amazing for not just walking away from it all.

i feel like i'm a better person than i give myself credit for but i'm also not the person other people seem to think i am and i don't know if it's because i'm unwilling to compromise and coexist with other human beings or if i just don't have the right parts to align with most other people's edges and never will except as a performance
