~Snippets from Around the Farm~
In the continuing guerilla warfare of Tristan vs Containment, the latest addition to our pasture gate is a PVC pipe to shrink the gap between the gate and the post. It's bolted in place with two chain link fence panel clamps, tightened down as far as possible so it won't spin.
The two previous adjustments, the landscape tiles & gravel under the gate and the secure gate latch continue to work well. Tristan simply continues to innovate. It's been at least three months, so the previous configuration had a good long run before Tristan managed to beat it again.

The greatest and most important problems of life are all in a certain sense insoluble… They can never be solved, but only outgrown. This 'outgrowing, as I formerly called it, on further experience was seen to consist in a new level of consciousness. Some higher or wider interest arose on the person's horizon, and through this widening of view, the insoluble problem lost its urgency. It was not solved logically in its own terms, but faded out when confronted with a new and stronger life-tendency.

Meanwhile, off this business (and this) from the other night: starting to get where this image needs to go. Some lighting issues yet to be ironed out ...not to mention a good deal of ground cover to install. But that can come later.
Meanwhile, the favorite outtake so far from this work:

a big achievement for me
This past week, I've been working on spinning cubes. I know it seems silly, but these cubes are representative of a huge personal accomplishment. Read more about it at the amalgamated blog!
==========
Hi all. Sorry if you were expecting a puzzle today. Since I’m not putting one out today, I’ll probably be putting one out tomorrow. I want to dedicate today to instead talk about a big personal accomplishment. Instead of making you wait, I’ll just show you what I’ve done, and then I’ll talk about it. It might not look like much at first, but to me, this is really big. It represents another…

we’re familiar with “yes and” but have we explored the importance of “no but”? that is to say, it pisses me off so bad when my coworker says that my idea won’t work but doesn’t also go “but here’s my other idea that might work.” this would decrease my desire to throw my computer across the room by 70%

Introduction: As a high school student in the 21st century, there's no denying the importance of computer science in today's world. Whether you're a seasoned programmer or just dipping your toes into the world of coding, the power of computer science is undeniable. In this blog, I'll share my journey as a 12th-grader venturing into the fascinating realms of C, C++, and Python, and how this journey has not only improved my computer science profile but also shaped my outlook on technology and problem-solving.
Chapter 1: The Foundations - Learning C
Learning C:
C, often referred to as the "mother of all programming languages," is where my journey began. Its simplicity and efficiency make it an excellent choice for beginners. As a high school student with limited programming experience, I decided to start with the basics.
Challenges and Triumphs:
Learning C came with its fair share of challenges, but it was incredibly rewarding. I tackled problems like understanding pointers and memory management, and I quickly realized that the core concepts of C would lay a strong foundation for my future endeavors in computer science.
Chapter 2: Building on the Basics - C++
Transition to C++:
With C under my belt, I transitioned to C++. C++ builds upon the concepts of C while introducing the object-oriented programming paradigm. It was a natural progression, and I found myself enjoying the flexibility and power it offered.
Projects and Applications:
I started working on small projects and applications in C++. From simple text-based games to data structures and algorithms implementations, C++ opened up a world of possibilities. It was during this phase that I began to see how the knowledge of programming languages could translate into tangible solutions.
Chapter 3: Python - The Versatile Language
Exploring Python:
Python is often praised for its simplicity and readability. As I delved into Python, I realized why it's a favorite among developers for a wide range of applications, from web development to machine learning.
Python in Real-Life Projects:
Python allowed me to take on real-life projects with ease. I built web applications using frameworks like Flask and Django, and I even dabbled in data analysis and machine learning. The versatility of Python broadened my horizons and showed me the real-world applications of computer science.
Chapter 4: A Glimpse into the Future
Continual Learning:
As I prepare to graduate high school and venture into higher education, my journey with C, C++, and Python has instilled in me the importance of continual learning. The field of computer science is dynamic, and staying up-to-date with the latest technologies and trends is crucial.
Networking and Collaboration:
I've also come to appreciate the significance of networking and collaboration in the computer science community. Joining online forums, participating in coding challenges, and collaborating on open-source projects have enriched my learning experience.
Conclusion: Embracing the World of Computer Science
My journey as a 12th-grader exploring C, C++, and Python has been an enlightening experience. These languages have not only improved my computer science profile but have also given me a broader perspective on problem-solving and technology. As I step into the future, I'm excited to see where this journey will take me, and I'm ready to embrace the ever-evolving world of computer science.
If you're a fellow student or someone curious about programming, I encourage you to take the plunge and start your own journey. With determination and a willingness to learn, the world of computer science is yours to explore and conquer.

What is lucid dreaming?
Tumblr media
A lucid dream is a dream in which the dreamer is aware that they are dreaming. This awareness can allow the dreamer to control the dream, or at least to observe it from a detached perspective. Lucid dreams have been reported for centuries, and there are now a number of techniques that people can use to induce them.
History of lucid dreaming
The earliest recorded mention of lucid dreaming is in the Hindu text the Upanishads, which was written around 2000 BC. The Upanishads describe a technique called "dream yoga" that was used to induce lucid dreams.
In the 19th century, the French philosopher René Descartes wrote about his own experiences with lucid dreaming. Descartes believed that lucid dreams could be used to prove the existence of the soul.
In the 20th century, the psychologist Stephen LaBerge began to study lucid dreaming scientifically. LaBerge developed a number of techniques for inducing lucid dreams, and he also developed a way to measure brain activity during lucid dreams.
Benefits of lucid dreaming
There are many potential benefits to lucid dreaming. For example, lucid dreams can be used to explore one's subconscious mind, to learn new skills, or to simply have more fun. Lucid dreams can also be used to treat nightmares and other sleep disorders.
Here are some of the benefits of lucid dreaming:
Personal growth: Lucid dreams can be used to explore your subconscious mind and learn more about yourself. You can use them to confront your fears, work through emotional issues, and develop your creativity.
Problem-solving: Lucid dreams can be used to solve problems in your waking life. You can use them to practice new skills, test out ideas, and come up with creative solutions to problems.
Entertainment: Lucid dreams can be a lot of fun. You can use them to fly, have adventures, and meet interesting people.
Tumblr media
Risks of lucid dreaming
There are also some potential risks associated with lucid dreaming. For example, some people have reported feeling anxious or even terrified during lucid dreams. In rare cases, lucid dreams can even lead to sleep paralysis, a condition in which the person is unable to move or speak after waking up.
Here are some of the risks of lucid dreaming:
Anxiety: Some people experience anxiety or even fear during lucid dreams. This is usually due to the fact that they are not used to being aware that they are dreaming.
Sleep paralysis: Sleep paralysis is a condition in which the person is unable to move or speak after waking up. It can be a frightening experience, and it is sometimes associated with lucid dreaming.
Psychological problems: In rare cases, lucid dreaming can lead to psychological problems such as psychosis or dissociation. However, this is very rare and only occurs in people who are already at risk for these conditions.
Techniques for inducing lucid dreams
If you are interested in trying lucid dreaming, there are a number of techniques that you can use. Some of the most common techniques include:
Reality testing: This involves checking throughout the day to see if you are dreaming. You can do this by trying to push your finger through your palm, looking at a clock twice to see if the time changes, or trying to read something twice to see if the words change.
Wake back to bed (WBTB): This involves waking up after 5-6 hours of sleep, staying awake for 20-30 minutes, and then going back to sleep. This increases your chances of having a lucid dream.
Mnemonic induction of lucid dreams (MILD): This involves repeating a mantra to yourself before you go to sleep, such as "I will know I am dreaming."
If you are persistent, you should be able to induce lucid dreams with some practice. However, it is important to remember that lucid dreaming is not a guarantee, and there is no one-size-fits-all approach. What works for one person may not work for another.
Conclusion
Lucid dreaming is a fascinating phenomenon with both potential benefits and risks. If you are interested in learning more about lucid dreaming, there are a number of resources available online and in libraries.

Everything in life is a puzzle to be solved. If Tristan can't get through the gate, obviously it's a mistake, and Tristan should just correct the error. Therefore we are in a continuous battle of wits 😅 over the gate to the pasture.
The block under the gate has become too easy for Tristan to move, so I am about to take it out and build up the ground so Spaniels can not slither underneath. Before I started, I wanted to get Tristan moving the block on video, for one last laugh at how easy it has become for him. So I took him out with the gate closed and told him "go ahead."
But first, there was an enthralling sniff on the breeze that Tristan had to follow. *Then* he trotted over and effortlessly slid the block away from the gate, wagging furiously. Clever, clever young man. . (Afterwards he looked proudly over at me, because he knows he solved this puzzle well. Tristan Did A Good Job.)

Subtraction is Addition
Uncover the benifts of subtraction in life and problem solving. Embrace simplicity and overcome mental hurdles. 1. Read this post. 2. Let me know what you think.
I recognize there is a difference between subtracting things from your life that don’t serve you and serious addiction issues. This article’s intention is to explain the former, not the latter. We often struggle to grasp the idea that less is more. We think adding something is the best solution; but what if the key to addition lies in subtraction? Whether it’s cutting down on sugar, reducing…
