Ruggie, Rook: How Tongues Twist
I was late for Vil’s birthday but on time for Ruggie’s ✨ By chance, the third chapter of the Episode of Savanaclaw manga dropped (in Japanese) today. It’s like the TWST fans also got a birthday present!
It sure must suck for Ruggie to be stuck with Rook as an interviewer 😂 (At least his bouquet isn't all yellow like the weirdness of Trey's/Sebek’s all green bouquets-) Ruggie’s Groovy though 🤡 You see where his feet are???? How the pitch of the heel is riding on the broom handle… Dude’s livin’ life on the edge there, I worry he’ll topple off!!
***Note: I use the Japanese term "madol" for TWST's currency; it is the same as "thaumark" (EN). I also use "Magical Shift"; it is the same as "Spelldrive" (EN).***
A Boy in Bloom, and his Flowering Future.
Tumblr media
"How do you spend your spare time, Monsieur Dent-de-Lion?"
Ruggie stiffened, his eyes narrowing with suspicion. "... This isn't some kinda trick question, is it? Knowing the weird stuff you do for fun, you already know the answer."
In spite of the pointed accusation, Rook's grin persisted. "Non! All that I am aware of is your enduring loyalty to Leona-kun. I've witnessed you many a time headed to the cafeteria or to the Mystery Shop to fetch his desired goods.
"Why, just yesterday, you obtained a deluxe menchi-katsu sandwich at 12:43 pm, only to spend 2 minutes and 31 seconds picking out the lettuce shreddings from it--on account of Roi du Leon's aversion to vegetables. On the way to deliver the meal, you happened upon a 1000 madol bill and so giddily swept it up, humming a merry tune on the rest of the walk."
"Dude, talk about a crazy amount of unnecessary detail!!"
"Fufu. I can see that you like to keep yourself busy. There doesn't appear to be much spare time to speak of in your daily life."
Ruggie sighed, but he didn't press the matter further. Protesting never did him any good with the huntsman. "I guess you could say that. Between my part-time gigs and Magical Shift practice, that doesn't leave me a lot of wiggle room for myself. I do manage to squeeze some in though, 'specially if there's free stuff involved. Gotta take what I can get, nishishishishi!"
"Oh la la~ What dedication to your work. Your tenacity is truly something to behold. It's as though you were a single red rose blooming in a barren desert in defiance of Mother Nature's harshness."
The birthday boy shot Rook a confused stink eye.
"Anyway," Ruggie continued, "I have to beef up my resume if I wanna land a good job after graduation. Extracurriculars and work experience will definitely help with that."
Rook gave a brief laugh. "No doubt that your linguistic abilities will also be a great boon to you. You already possess proficiency in a number of animal languages, as well as knowledge of common phrases in some human tongues from the jobs you've taken up at resorts and hotels over school breaks."
Ruggie's eyes bulged. "... And how exactly do you know that?"
The huntsman's lids lowered, his irises concealed half-moons. His smile, too, turned just as mysterious, even if his tone was still bright as day.
"Call it a lucky guess!"
"There's nothing 'lucky' about that!" Ruggie cried out in exasperation. Sheesh, this guy's nothin' to sneeze at.
He took a breath, settling his frazzled fur and wrangling his nerves. Calm collected, Ruggie threw an impish response at his interviewer.
"You're not too shabby with animal languages yourself. Not surprising, seein' as you spend so much time around animals. You know the language of the City of Flowers too--I heard it when you were talkin' to some of the street vendors on our outing." He brought a curled hand to his mouth. "So you have a connection to that part of Pyroxene or what? Go on, I'm all ears."
Again, Rook gave a laugh. This time, it was accompanied by the slight furrowing of his brows.
"Oh, it's just something I picked up," he said dismissively, then pivoted. "Language can open up new avenues of exploration and communication. In learning such skills, you're thinking of the future, not solely your immediate needs."
"Obviously. Cuz if I get a fish, then I'll eat for a day--but if I learn how to fish, then I'll never go hungry." A corner of Ruggie's mouth went crooked. "Back home, we had to get by day-by-day, but here at Night Raven College, I've got the chance to prove my mettle and make something of myself. If I work hard, then Granny and the neighborhood kids can..."
He didn't finish the statement, but his face shone like a star, as bright as the yellow of dandelion petals.
"Ah, Monsieur Dent-de-Lion!!" Rook gushed, clasping his hands together. "Your heart is as big as your appetite!!"
"Hah?! N-No way, lay off with that!!" Ruggie frantically waved his broom at him, as if sweeping the suggestion under a rug. "The financial security's just nice! I don't wanna worry about where my next meal comes from ever again!!"
"Fufufu, d'accord. I hope that you are able to recognize that dream of yours, remembering your roots and all."
Ruggie rested the handle of his broom on his shoulders. He leaned into Rook, cocking a brow, teeth bared in challenge.
“I got this in the bag.”
Rook's eyes glittered with wonder. "Come then! Show me the unconventional flying technique you've gleaned from your hometown. I wish to engrave your skyward visage into my mind!!"
“Do you really have to make everything sound so dramatic? No matter how many languages I learn to speak, I dunno if I’ll ever fully understand you.”
There was a soft chuckle. “Perhaps that is next on your list of languages to acquire!”
“Not from you for sure though.”
Ruggie shrugged and dropped his broom. It landed with a clatter on the stone staircase, red and purple and yellow petals flittering into the air.
He grinded his heels on the handle, determination welling in his chest. Ruggie gave Rook a look full of cheek.
“Whatever! If it’s a show you want, it’s a show you’ll get. Check this out… a new move I’ve been workin’ on!!”
The birthday boy threw his arms out to his left and to his right. On cue, his broom ascended in a sea of warm, golden sparks.
Rook’s hair flew in his face from the kickback of the takeoff. Clutching onto his feathered hat, he raced after Ruggue. Bewildered, bewitched.
Joyful howling filled the huntsman’s ears. Ruggie teetered only slightly on his ride, arms still splayed wide as he expertly balanced atop of it.
Colorful petals rained down on him like pieces of confetti. Fur and fabric swaying in the wind, Ruggie was like a dandelion seed, the fluff of it dancing in the breeze.
Living life, loving it, and wondering where the wind might carry him.
A hyena surfing throughly the sky, spotlighted and celebrated by sunshine—imagine that, Rook mused.
His tongue, tied at the very sight of it.

Taraxacum seeds
Dandelion clock, also called blowball. The blowball part is similar to the Italian name, which is "soffione", which basically recalls the verb "soffiare" (aka "to blow").
The name of the flower also recalls the Italian version! In fact, "Dandelion" comes from the French name "Dan de lion", which means lion's tooth: the Italian name is "dente di leone", and it has the same exact meaning.

HERE ARE SOME USEFUL INFORMATIONS ABOUT THE DANDELION (DENTE DI LEONE)
Dandelion is the only flower that represents the 3 celestial bodies of the sun, moon and stars.
The yellow flower looks like the sun, the dandelion ball looks like the moon, and the scattered seeds look like the stars.
The dandelion flower opens to greet the morning and closes at night to go to sleep.
Every part of the dandelion is useful: root, leaves and flower. It can be use as food, medicine and dye for coloring.
Until the 1800s, people cleared their lawns to make room for dandelion and other beneficial herbs, such as mallow and chamomile.
The name dandelion comes from the French word 'dent de lion', meaning 'dandelion', referring to the leaves with large teeth.
Dandelions have one of the longest flowering seasons of all plants.
Dandelion seeds are often blown away by the wind and travel like little parachutes. Seeds are often transported up to 5 miles from their origin!
Animals such as birds, insects and butterflies consume the nectar or seeds of the dandelion.
Dandelion flowers do not need to be pollinated to form seeds.
Dandelion can be used in the production of wine and beer via its root. Dandelion root can be used as a coffee substitute.
Dandelions have a long history. They were well known to the ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans and have been used in traditional Chinese medicine for over a thousand years.
Dandelion is used in folk medicine to treat infections and liver ailments. Tea made from dandelion acts as a diuretic.
If you cut down dandelions, they grow shorter stems to spite you."
Dandelions are quite possibly the most successful plants that exist, masters of survival all over the world.

Dandelion Tincture (Taraxacum Officinale) ~Some see a weed, some see a wish~ Do you remember blowing the white fluffy tops of a Dandelion flower? Who doesn't?! What's better than a plant that gives wishes when you puff its fluff? In the French language, the Dandelion is referred to as "dent-de-leon", meaning, "tooth of the lion". This "weed" may look innocent & unimpressive, but she packs a punch! Dandelion is a rich source of vitamins A, B complex, and C, as well as minerals such as iron, potassium, & zinc. Traditionally, dandelion roots & leaves were used to support the liver. Tribes boil & drink dandelion extract to help treat digestion problems, skin ailments, inflammation, liver injury, kidney disease, & heartburn. In Traditional Chinese Medicine & European Herbal Medicine, Dandelion is used for breast concerns, liver & gall bladder support, to promote digestion & to support the detoxification process. The bioactive components in dandelion have demonstrated a series of anti-diabetic effects, which are due to the pharmacological actions of components such as sesquiterpene lactones, triterpenes/phytosterols (taraxasterol), phenols, flavonoids, and phenolic acids, comparable to the most used anti-diabetic medication. Studies on dandelion extracts revealed that it may stimulate the release of insulin in pancreatic β-cells, which consequently counteracts the effects of hyperglycemia. Anti-oxidative, anti-inflammatory, anti-hyperglycemic, and anti-diabetic properties. Magically, Dandelion is used in dream work & divination. It is especially effective in spirit communication & summoning, & aids psychic development. Dandelion is associated with wind & air spirits. It is used in invocations to Hekate & other deities associated with death. Dandelion is utilized for purification, manifestation, healing, positivity, & protection against nightmares. The dandelion is masculine in action & associated with the planet Jupiter, the element of air and both Pisces & Sagittarius. #thejaggedpath #dandelion #diabetes #dreamwork #divination #summoning #spiritcommunication #psychic #poisonpath (at Houston, Texas) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cmyc07AujTm/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

i keep hearing that the staff have said that romantic relationships in voltron have been building since s1, where are people getting this from?
So, I have been looking on and off all day as I have had time and I still haven’t found the two specific references I wanted. Throwing this out to @dent-de-leon and anyone else who might know these sources:
(1) A discussion where the team talked about how they tried to encapsulate as much of the story and character arcs as possible within the first 13 episodes in case that was all they got. And if you look at Season 1, it starts with Keith rescuing Shiro after his crash back on Earth, Keith protecting and looking out for Shiro in multiple episodes, multiple background moments and visual cues that pair them, and of course the battle at the end where Keith goes in to keep the Black Lion from Zarkon and Shiro rescues Keith in the nick of time. And the implication is that the two of them get swept away together in the cliffhanger (I know I was surprised in S2E02 that Lance and Hunk ended up in the same place). I don’t think any of the other characters have this much interaction between them at this stage.
(2) I swear I’ve seen a quote from someone on the production staff that said essentially that the endgame ships were seeded in Season 1, to be developed over the course of the series. For me, this points to Sheith and Allurance. Sheith has been a steady thread throughout the series, even when one of the characters is off the main stage (Keith mourning Shiro so desperately before Kuron is found, Shiro’s arrival at the Kral Zera causing Keith to try and abort the BoM plan), and has built to a pretty damn loud crescendo in the last episodes of S6. Allurance started with Allura falling into Lance’s arms and continued with his constant flirting in S1-S2, but their relationship has grown to solid friendship and mutual support, and now we know and Allura knows that Lance has deeper feelings for her that he’s scared to express.
Something I did find that backs up the above: this early article from The Nerdist outlines the main characters for new viewers. I found it interesting that Keith was described almost exclusively in terms of his relationship to Shiro, that Allura’s character description included Lance’s attentions to her, and that Pidge is all in Hunk’s description (comparing their strengths and how they can work together and using male pronouns with her since it was before that reveal). I know that the blatant nods to Team Punk came later, but I can think of a few cues in Seasons 1-3 as well. Just something to think about…
I also tracked down this podcast, Fighting in the War Room. It was a “Legend of Korra” fancast that had the chance to interview JDS and LM as “Voltron” was about to come out. This is the source of a quote from Lauren about wanting LGBT representation (at the 31:00 mark): “We have those first 13 episodes and if we ever went beyondthat, we would like to push the envelope.” So from the very beginning, the producers intended to fight for more than just a single hand-hold in the final shot like in LoK.
I will keep poking around for those sources that I couldn’t find.
ETA: This could be a source for the talk about slow burn/stuff planted in S1, from all the way back in S2E01′s Afterbuzz review.

About Keith being a guardian of fire when his firefighter dad may have died in an actual fire -- as cruel as that intent is, I kinda also see it as a positive outlook in that now being a guardian gives him the ability to 'control' what he has always feared/hated. It's no longer an enemy but an ally. Kind of like how Pidge is the guardian of the forest but she hates nature lol (until the Olkari ep).
That’s a nice headcanon! This is still all conjecture of course (until we see what’s said in that interview on Monday) and idk how far ahead they had planned Keith’s backstory and his dad’s, but that’s certainly a kind of poetic way to look at it. Tho I’m not sure I’d say Keith exactly fears or hates fire, given how often we see him blow stuff up (even before becoming the red paladin)
There’s also a theory by @dent-de-leon suggesting that the red lion itself (under Galra coercion) may have been directly involved in an attack that burned down the family home (as evidenced by her presence in the BOM vision), and that part of the reason she was so fiercely protective of Keith is she felt super guilty about her role in hurting him all those years ago.
I always liked Keith being the guardian of fire just based on his temperament (and his proclivity for pyrotechnics–how many times has he blown stuff up?) but this headcanon def adds a whole ‘nother layer

HOLD UP. Wait a tic!
The Galra had the red lion from the beginning right? Yes.
WHAT IF ALFOR WAS FIGHTING AGAINST HAGGARS DROID OR SOME SHIT WHEN HE DIED, SO THE RED LION HAS HIS SOUL.
And Lance has gotten a super close relationship with Red, because he feels down all the time, and Red always listens. (sorry for the tiny amount of langst) He would eventually get contacted by Alfor
AND WE ALREADY KNOW ALLURA IS ABLE TO GET HIM OUT, BUT THEY NEED A BODY.
@dent-de-leon feel free to carry on.

~Voltron Legendary Defender Ask Game~
Thank you @lasersheith <3
How did you discover the show?
I watched a video about Legend of Korra and the youtuber mentioned that even though that franchise probably won’t have another sequel, next project for Studio Mir is Voltron! I liked the art style so decided to give it a try
Was it love at first sight or did it take you a while to get into the the show?
I don’t remember if I tuned in before season 2 or just after it aired, but I liked it right away, liked season 2 even more, but it was definitely love at first sight with Keith! I’ll always have a soft spot for this type of characters and when he did that jump from a cliff in ep 1, oh boyyyy, I knew I would soon be ready to die for him
Do you have a favorite episode?
Blade of Marmora s2e8, forever and ever, after a “like” towards this series became a “love”
Do you have a favorite Paladin?
Keith, I am a Keith stan 100%, I also relate to him the most
Do you have a favorite Lion? (If it’s different from your fav Paladin, why?)
Red - quick, agile, connected to fire, is the right hand, its Paladin needs to have good instincts, and doesn’t that sound just like the coolest thing ever?
Do you have a favorite Villian?
Lotor of course. We’ll see if he’s a really villain though. Slav
Do you have a favorite Alien Race? (Recurring and/or minor)
The fluffy little ones that Pidge found in space garbage! Would like to have one as a pet
Favorite side / other character(s)- Rebels, Generals, Blade of Marmora, Garrison, etc?
MATTHEW HOLT IS MY JOY AND HAPPINESS
I also liked Antok but :<<<
How/Why did you join the fandom?
Two of my friends started watching vld but didn’t finish and I really like to hear what other people think about smth I enjoy, so I turned to tumblr. Then in September 2017 I bought a drawing tablet and vld was pretty much the only thing I wanted to draw and that’s how I got deep
Care to share your favorite headcanon?
Serious answer: Keith beat a lot of Shiro’s records at the Garrison and was very hostile to Shiro at first, but our beefy man was kind, genuine and persistent so soon they formed a beautiful and special friendship, where they could be truly vulnerable with the other.
Hilarious answer: Keith actually hooked up with quite a few people in his teenage years, while Shiro (who I usually headcanon as demisexual), did not, so the first time they had sex, Keith had to be the one to calm down a nervous and blushing Shiro
What do you think is the best part of the show?
It can be enjoyed by both kids and adults, sheith’s relationship, it’s happening in space, the art style is really beautiful thus the characters are really beautiful too
Any hopes and wishes for future episodes / seasons?
It’s a whole goddamn list.
I’d actually like to see Keith pilot Black once again for a little. Not permanently but just so he stops telling himself he’s terrible at it.
Sheith hug/more romantic lines/soft smiles/shoulder touches/kiss
Keitor interaction. Please. Let Keith and Lotor bond over being half-galras with a shitty past
Galra exploiting Shiro’s and Keith’s closeness. If they really used their bond as a bait for Keith or smth like that, it would be just the extra proof  how important they are to each other
Do you think you’ll stick it out until the end of the show?
Yeah, I’m a very curious person so it’s hard for me to drop even the series I lost interest in, because I just really wanna know how it ends.
Plus we don’t really have that much further to go, only 2 more seasons after s6 :<

~Voltron Legendary Defender Ask Game~
I was tagged by @lasersheith eeyyyyyyyyyy 😊
How did you discover the show?
Someone I was following for a different fandom started watching it and since they have good taste in cartoons I figured I’d give it a try.
Was it love at first sight or did it take you a while to get into the the show?
Well, I adored the first season and dabbled in fandom a little bit, but I lost interest by the time season 2 rolled around and I saw every spoiler known to man revealed within like, an hour of it coming out. I picked it up again when season 3 drew near though. I’ll admit that my dash became inundated with fanart and that’s what brought me back into the fold 😅
Do you have a favorite episode?
Probably The Blades of Marmora and Reunion, and any other Pidge-centric episode.
Do you have a favorite Paladin?
This question is almost impossible to answer, they’re all so dear to me. I guess I’d have to say Keith and Pidge, with everyone else pulling up right behind.
Do you have a favorite Lion? (If it’s different from your fav Paladin, why?)
I love Blue!! She reminds me of like, a super patient and loving mom friend who also likes to goof off and have fun. Also I think her relationship with Allura is great.
Red’s also great though, like yes I too would lunge into space to save Keith Kogane from harm.
Do you have a favorite Villian?
I want Lotor to hold my hand so bad.
Do you have a favorite Alien Race? (Recurring and/or minor)
Hmmmm, probably Galra?? I wish we knew more about Altea though.
Favorite side / other character(s)- Rebels, Generals, Blade of Marmora, Garrison, etc?
My meme-boy Matt!!! Also I know we’ve only known her for one episode but can someone please give Krolia my cell #.
How/Why did you join the fandom?
I loved the characters!!! I just got sucked into their stories. Even if it’s not explored a lot in the show, each character has such interesting and dynamic stories and histories, and I love to explore that. I love entering the minds of characters, to figure out what makes them tick. Hence the fic writing. 😄
Care to share your favorite headcanon?
ACE!!! KEITH!!!
I also love the HC that Josh gave about Shiro being raised by his grandfather; I incorporate it into almost all of my fics now.
What do you think is the best part of the show?
The characters!! I think they’ve developed a really interesting and diverse group and I think it’s been a huge selling point for this show, well that plus space and robots and aliens and robot aliens.
Any hopes and wishes for future episodes / seasons?
Listen I just want Shiro to live. I want him to live and be reunited with Keith and begin processing his trauma with his team there as a wonderful support system and for him to come home and eat all the mac and cheese he could ever want.
(Also a full embrace of the found family narrative from every character please and thank you 🙏)
Do you think you’ll stick it out until the end of the show?
Even if I stop engaging with fandom for some reason, I can’t imagine not sticking through and watching it till the end save for some sort of apocalyptic event happening.
Tag your friends or someone you want to get to know better:
@strixmoonwing @voltronpaladudes @lionswaps @kcgane @dent-de-leon @kaxpha @exitlude @copilotsheith hey here’s a thing to do if you’re able 👀💛

Un pissentlit dans mes plates-bandes
J.
