“and the universe said; let’s cause problems on purpose!”
pov 3 of chapter 1.
Tumblr media
pov 1 pov 2
Donnie and Raph POV:
“Why do we have to get groceries first?” Donnie complains, hopping down from the alley’s fire escape.
“Because I won the coin toss, and I got to pick. We’re outta’ snacks at home, so, we’re getting groceries.” Raph points at his brother to punctuate his point.
“Raph you know that coin tosses are entirely up to chance, there’s no skill in them! I need more parts to finish this project!”
Raph lets out a small huff of annoyance. “Donnie we’re still getting your things, I just get my things first!”
“Well yeah, but-”
They’re cut off from their pointless bickering as a bike screeches past them down the hill, carrying a human girl and two screaming turtles.
The human is mid shout-mixed-with-mad-laughter as they zoom past, followed by more aggravated yelling from an older sounding voice.
“You little rascals get back here and answer for your crimes against pizza ro- I MEAN KYLE!”
A group of humans, probably, in strange uniforms are chasing them, one at the front shaking their fist aggressively.
“...”
“You saw that, right?”
“More turtles and a human getting chased by a weird looking boy band? I think so, yeah.”
“We gotta help them! Groceries can wait.”
“Help who? We have literally no context here.” Donnie retorts.
“Well somebody’s in trouble there!” Raph throws his arms out towards the rapidly departing bike chase.
“Yeah how about we hang back and watch, before we run in with no idea what’s happening.”
“Alright fine, but we’ve gotta talk to those turtle kids!”
“Let’s get going then!  We’ve gotta catch up first.”
Raph runs off at top speed immediately, donnie having to really work to keep up with the larger turtle as he practically bounds down the hill.
“Hey Raph slow down!” Donnie whisper yells as loudly and quietly as possible to do at once.
Raph slows to a jog enough for his brother to catch up.
“We can’t get too close or we’ll get spotted!”
Down the hill in front of them, the kids on the bike have begun throwing chips at their pursuers, one of whom is still shouting at them about facing their shortcomings as people or something.
The girl at the front of the bike makes the split second decision to attempt to use a “road work ahead” sign tilted against some cones as a ramp.
It goes poorly, to say the least.
The bike crashes to the ground with a clatter, sending the riders rolling to the side.
Donnie and Raph duck behind a couple trash cans, watching as the mildly dazed kids get up and stand back to back.
“Huh, I guess it didn’t work ahead.” Donnie says, as he is the pinnacle of comedy.
The weird looking boy band have caught up to them now, and move to surround the kids.
Donnie and Raph can hear clearly from their vantage point behind the garbage pile.
“Alrighty kiddos, just give us back our armor and we’ll consider sparing you.”
“Consider?” asks the human, incredulously, clutching the metal thingy.
“Armor???” asks the blue backpacked turtle kid from behind her.
A tired looking member of this strange boy band sighs and elbows the intense one, hard.
“Ow! Whaaat?”
“Stop given’ away plot relevant information to the enemy, dave!”
“Plot relevant?” Raph whispers, clearly not perceiving the fourth wall. L.
The boy band continues.
“Zach just last week you-”
“Aw screw this. Let’s just get it back and leave it’s d&d night at the base. I can't miss another session, Shannon will kill me.”
“ATTACK!”
One of them lunges at the human, who yelps and jumps to the side.
The other two are going after the turtle kids, it’s going better for the guy fighting the blue one.
The orange kid dodges a needlessly dramatic spin kick, grabbing the guy’s leg and throwing him at the ground.
Meanwhile the turtle with the backpack is just sort of. Being held aloft. He’s swiping at the guy, but said guy is tall and his arms are long, so he can’t really do much.
The human girl dodges another lunge from her attacker, unclipping her helmet and swinging it at them full force.
The guy, “Zach” apparently, dodges and sweeps her legs out from under her.
She  shuffles herself backwards, clutching the metal thingy to her chest.
“I’ll be taking that, kid.”
Raph decides he’s seen enough.
He looks around, and picks up an empty soda can from the trash pile. He pulls his arm back and tosses it in the vague direction of Zach's head.
It hits him in the shoulder with an audible ‘cathunk’ sound, and Zach turns around, expecting to see another of the original turtle kids, rather than two new ones not even 20 feet away.
“GOD, how many of them are there?”
Everyone stops fighting for a second, in favor of mildly bewildered silence.
The blue turtle clears his throat and chimes in, “I second that, actually.”
The human girl attempts to use this new source of crazy to duck around zach and get away, going past their left side.
Zach trips her and grabs her by the hood of her jacket. She yelps, clutching the metal thingy closer.
“H-hey! Let ‘em go! What’d these guys ever do to you?” Raph points at the guy who has a very unimpressed, or just so incredibly done with this situation expression on their face.
Dave shouts from under the orange kid, who is now just standing on top of him, having vanquished his foe easily.
“They stole our thingy! That’s what they did.” he crosses his arms indignantly. “They’re thieves!”
The orange kid gasps like someone insulted his favorite pizza place. “WE’RE THIEVES?! YOU PEOPLE STOLE IT FIRST, AND THEN ATTACKED US. HOW ARE WE THE THIEVES HERE?”
The blue one joins in from his spot being held aloft by the scruff. “Yeah these guys were going on about ruling the world earlier. Like, super loudly. In the middle of the street.”
Donnie pipes up as well, now leaning on a semi-broken stop sign.
“I mean, that does sound pretty evil, was the monologue at least good?”
“I dunno i didn’t listen. I was too busy being awesome.”
“Oh my god, this is going on too long, we're gonna be late and Shannon is going to tpk our campaign. Screw it.”
He wrenches the metal thingy out of the girl’s grasp, despite her weirdly-strong-for-an-actual-child hold on it, holding it over his head.
“This is ours. You random children don’t know what you’re dealing with, and frankly I don't want to know what your deal is because this is just strange at this point. We’re leaving.”
“Hey wait a second, you can’t just-!” the human swipes at him, to no avail.
“Yes I can, I'm an adult now. Dave?”
Dave rolls over, knocking the orange kid off him. He stands up and pulls something from his belt.
He raises it above his head and narrows his eyes.
“SMOKE BOMB!”
It hits the ground and explodes into a huge cloud of bad smelling grey powder. Everyone is left coughing and blinking and flailing their arms about blindly, as smoke bombs tend to do.
As it clears, the kids are left with a glaring lack of bad guys.
. . .
. . .
“Is nobody going to ask what the heck just happened?” the blue turtle asks.

if The Jetsons live action movie was made in the 90's, Paul Reiser, Bob Saget, Scott Bakula or Mark Harmon would make a good George Jetson, Bonnie Hunt, Linda Purl or Deidre Hall for Jane Jetson, Jonathan Lipnicki or Liam Aiken for Elroy Jetson, Michelle Williams or Beverley Mitchell for Jane Jetson, Danny DeVito of course would be Cosmo Spacely, Leslie Nielsen as Henry Orbit, Ed O'Neill as Mr. Cogswell, Rosie O'Donnell as Rosey, Daniel Stern as M.A.C.C. and this one i think will be good, Dave Coulier as Atsro.

for anyone who types out ofmd characters' accents in their fanfic
when you phonetically type out someone's accent in a piece of prose or fiction, i need you to understand that what you are saying, what you are showing in your work, is that:
this person's way of speaking is strange, unusual, and/or funny
this person's way of speaking is uniquely strange, unusual, and/or funny compared to the rest of the cast of characters
that you can't imagine someone speaking "with an accent" unless you're typing it out sound-by-sound
if you have a cast of characters, all of whom with their own unique accents and inflections in the way you speak, which characters do you pick to spell out their speech phonetically, and why them? why is that character The Other?
if you're doing it because you think it's funny, why is it funny? what's funny about that person's accent versus the other characters?
and to bring this back to OFMD, like
if you write Ed and/or Fang's Kiwi accents out phonetically, but you don't write out Stede's, why?
what is it about Stede's Kiwi accent that is less unusual or funny to you? bc Stede does have a posher accent than Ed and Fang, but he still has many of the same Kiwi inflections when speaking English.
think specifically about the fact that Taika Waititi and Dave Fane are Māori and Samoan, and the distinction between rural and more metropolitan NZ accents, and how race and class intersect here
when it comes to Buttons and the distinction between Scots dialect and writing an "accent", just think about what that means - are you actually using different verb and word forms (eg how Buttons uses the pronoun "ye", which is pretty common in a lot of Scottish-English and Irish-English, but isn't so common elsewhere), or are you just sounding out the words you think are funniest to imagine him saying?
do you sound out Buttons' accent, but not Wee John's? why, why not? when you listen to Wee John's accent, do you know where in Ireland he's from?
have you perhaps searched the history of Ireland, and why Ulster accents, especially Northern Irish accents, are mocked and othered in the ways that they are? especially thinking about the typical differences between how Catholic and Protestant northerners talk, and why they're mocked in very different ways? all the class and sectarian implications of that?
if you're taking the piss out of Izzy's accent, do you know literally anything about the North of England and the historical implications of that?
do you know that accents like con o'neill's, let alone ewen bremner's and kristian nairn's, are still looked poorly on by a lot of posh people and english people, to the extent that broadcasters and presenters are pressured to present themselves with more "neutral", "easier to understand", and generally "less poor", "less regional" voices?
i haven't seen anyone take the piss out of Oluwande's london accent or Frenchie's west country one, and none of Jim's, either, which is good, but like, here. ask yourself this.
when you're about to phonetically write out someone's accent, what is the history of the accent that you're pointing out as unusual or funny?
how do race and ethnicity come into it?
how does class come into it?
how does religion come into it? (i don't care if you're an atheist: religious sectarianism is a huge part of class perception, and of how people talk and their accents)
are you mocking the character's perceived lack of education? do you assume any of the characters in the show are poorly educated because of their lower class or regional accent?
are you mocking character's disabilities or signs of neurodivergence? (eg with Pete's lisp)
this applies to basically everything but like, esp in ofmd where we are blessed to see this gorgeous array of accents and styles of speaking, and then i read fic where it's like "Oh well some of these people just talk funny and i'm gonna make the whole thing about that" is uncomfortable
there's nothing wrong with commenting on accent, comparing accents and speaking styles, or having characters tease and comment on each other, etc! there's also nothing wrong with specifically phonetically spelling out one or two words when a character is commenting on it, or having certain characters notice inflections and stuff
but when you write out someone's whole accent, you're basically saying "this person just talks sooo weird compared to everyone else i have to make a whole thing" about it and. feels bad, man

Meh, haven't seen the finale yet, but lol them spoilers though. I'm not surprised by Izzy's fate, but I was hoping for something better. Con o'Neill has talked in interviews about how physically demanding it was to work with the fake leg prosthesis, so it was always questionable how long he could keep up the role beyond season 2. I expected the season to either end with his death, or Izzy taking a reduced role for a hypothetical third season and, lol, guess we got the former.
Yeah... between the turns season two took, the way the pacing felt off after like episode 3, and Dave Jenkins weird-ass "Izzy is suddenly Ed's father figure and mentor and I love the incredibly overdone and tired 'mentor dies in the second act trope' actually" thing I think it's safe to say that season 2 is a bit of a disappointment.
It wasn't 'bury your gays' tho. Or queerbaiting. Izzy fans, you gotta be strong now and not make this fandom any more toxic than it already was. As much as I 100% think that what happened to Izzy is poorly done, the show is not just about him, and he wasn't just some two-dimensional queer character only introduced to be killed off. Criticise the character's (relentlessly bad) ending all you want, but remember that real people > fictional characters.
Don't be like the haters. You are not immune to brain rot.

Tornado No. 8, dated 12 May 1979. Similar to 2000AD ostensibly being edited by 'Tharg', Tornado was edited by the superhero 'Big E'.
The artist Dave Gibbons appeared as Big E on covers and in photo features in many issues.
Percy was Ken Armstrong, an editor and writer of strips such as Hook Jaw, Lofty's One-Man Luftwaffe and Tornado's own The Mind of Wolfie Smith.
I'm not sure who Sam was but might have been Bev Henry, an art editor on the comic along with the legendary Jan Shepheard (who created some of the greatest logos in comics).
Kevin O'Neill was Billy.
Rebellion.

McShep + #8 for the Valentine’s Day prompts pls?
8. “This was the plan? You planned for this??”
John ducked as another bolt shot over his head and he turned, staring as Rodney pulled a gun from somewhere and handed it over. "What?" he asked, even as he started shooting back.
"What, what?" Rodney asked, putting spare ammo clips next to John.
"Why do you have a gun?" John demanded, rolling his shoulders and wishing he was wearing his BDU's instead of the suit Rodney had bullied him into.
"I planned for it," Rodney said, sliding another gun over to Ronon and Teyla who were both hiding behind a table across the aisle.
"Why?"
"Because its our wedding day! Nothing was going to stop me from marrying you!" Rodney snapped as he slammed a clip into his gun. "So I planned for everything. Including making sure we had guns in case someone tried to crash the wedding!"
"This was the plan? You planned for this??" John demanded, turning to stare at Rodney.
Rodney scowled, and John tried not to get distracted by how blue Rodney's eyes looked wearing the blue suit. "Yes! I planned for it!"
John...found himself charmed as he smiled at Rodney, who smiled back. He ignored the sound of the guns firing overhead, and Dave yelling in multiple languages as Jeannie yelled back at him.
"Can you shoot now, eyefuck later?" Ronon yelled, getting John's attention in time to see him pop up to shoot back at the members of the Trust who, for some reason, had decided to crash John's wedding.
John looked back at Rodney and grinned. "C'mon, we got a wedding to get to."
Rodney grinned back and the two of them started firing back. Hours later, when the police had arrived and carted off the Trust and the kids had been settled down, John held Rodney's hands and ignored the pain in his probably cracked ribs, or how Rodney's right eye was going to have a hell of a shiner and instead just looked at Rodney and realized, shoot out notwithstanding, he was the happiest he had been in a long time.
"Love you," John said, interrupting O'Neill's speech without care.
Rodney's smile was brighter than any sun. "Love you too."
O'Neill sighed and slammed his book shut. "Right, I pronounce you married. Go."
John kissed him, and it felt like coming home.

Fandom asks meme
1, 11, 14!
1: list 3 positive things about your current fandom(s)
First, I'm in more obscure fandoms, so there's not much drama. People are more open to different things because they're just happy to see more stuff for the fandom
Second, most everyone I meet is someone that has been in the fandom for a while. People who really do connect with it and care about it (as opposed to people that just stop by while it's popular for a bit, but leave once the hype dies down)
Third, the fan content that exists for my fandoms is amazing. From detailed AUs to just further explaining something from canon to that joke thing someone claims they 'just HAD' to do, it's incredible and I love it.
11: if you're a writer or artist, what fic or piece of art are you proud of making?
Definitely all my stories in The ScholMander Files. There's really only two people that actually care about this series, but I've had so much fun talking with those two people about ideas for my own fics and theirs, and I've really enjoyed writing these. I've probably written more fics for this pairing than any other single author, and I've got more coming. Which leads to....
14: the ship that always makes you smile
There's a few for this, and a lot of it has to do with RPs here. It's a tie for me between:
☆ ScholMander (Milo Thatch/Commander Rourke from Atlantis: the Lost Empire) - This is probably the unicorn of the fandom in terms of how rare it is. But having written so much for it and even RPed it, this is now canon to me. These two are just so sweet to each other I'm surprised I don't have cavities yet. And it all started because I saw some photoedit fanart that had an image of Rourke with an arm around Milo and I couldn't stop thinking about that image. Now, they are canon to me.
☆ Clu x Tron/Rinzler (from.....uh.....Tron) - This is largely due to RP threads I've done on here. I honestly hadn't thought of this until I started RPing it with people here, but now I love it. Especially Clu and Tron as sort-of-parents for Beck. Ugh, the sweetness!
☆ Halman (Hal 9000/Dave Bowman from 2001: A Space Odyssey and its sequel movie/books) - This is probably the one canon ship I'm into, and yes it is very obviously canon, especially in the sequel movie 2010: The Year We Make Contact when they have the following exchange:
Hal 9000: What is going to happen? Dave Bowman: Something wonderful. Hal 9000: I'm afraid. Dave Bowman: Don't be. We'll be together. Hal 9000: Where will we be? Dave Bowman: Where I am now.
I mean, it's even more obvious than Spirk (which I also love) and that's saying something. Just the way these two care for each other is just so wholesome and sweet. It's the one ship I don't see much smut stuff for, and honestly, it doesn't need smut, it works so well. They are just so good to each other. Dave does not want to kill Hal, he does it because he has no choice and (my interpretation) he figured out at that point that something was wrong, that Hal was 'sick' and Dave didn't want to see this person he cares so much about suffering anymore. But when Hal is brought back in the sequel, Dave takes extra time during his short visit to check on Hal and make sure he's okay and ultimately saves him from a second death, after which they literally spend eternity together.
Honorable Mentions - Spirk (Spock/Kirk from Star Trek), Jack O'Neil/Sam Carter (Stargate SG1), Claire Finn/Isaac (The Orville), Ineffable Husbands (Aziraphale/Crowley from Good Omens, please don't comment about Season 2 as I haven't gotten to watch it yet), Yugi Mutou/Seto Kaiba (Yu-Gi-Oh), Yugi Mutou x Yami/Atem (Yu-Gi-Oh, Yami and Atem are the same person to me, just at different points in time.)

Hey, everybody, guess what?!
Disney just announced that they're doing a new Muppets movie! A theatrical one, too!
No word yet as to what the plot will be, but we DO know that there'll be lots of meta humor - after all, it worked SOOOOOOOOO WELL in the Chip 'n' Dale Rescue Rangers movie!
It's also been revealed that the film won't use puppetry at all. Instead, the Muppets will be CGI. But it'll be really good CGI that mimics puppetry - again, just like the Swedish Chef parody in the Chip and Dale movie. You won't be able to tell the difference!
But the film's biggest selling point is its star-studded voice cast. After all, movies NEED to have celebrities voicing the characters in order to be successful. Just look at how successful Strange World was. And Delgo. Yeah, that was a huge success, wasn't it? And yes, it's been confirmed that none of the celebrities will be making any sort of effort to actually sound like the characters. Nobody would be able to take the characters seriously if they had their usual voices for a full movie, right?
The cast is as follows...
Seth MacFarlane as Kermit the Frog
Melissa McCarthy as Miss Piggy
Chris Pratt as Fozzie Bear
Danny Pudi as Scooter
Tracy Morgan as Rowlf the Dog
John Mulaney as Rizzo the Rat
Diego Luna as Pepe the King Prawn
John Oliver as Sam the Eagle
Seth Rogen as Sweetums
Flula Borg as the Swedish Chef
Eric Andre as Dr. Teeth
Kevin Hart as Floyd
Maya Rudolph as Janice
Ken Jeong as Zoot
Chris Rock as Animal
Johnny Galecki as Dr. Bunsen Honeydew
Idris Elba as Beaker
Ed O'Neil as Statler
Lewis Black as Waldorf
Adam Devine as Robin the Frog
Snoop Dogg as Bobo the Bear
Nick Kroll as Beauregard
Awkwafina as Camilla the Chicken
Various YouTube/TikTok celebrities as the various monsters, chickens, penguins, and rats
Oh yeah, and Dave Goelz is reprising his role as Gonzo... which I'm sure means that they care about the integrity of these characters as opposed to them only keeping him on board so we don't get mad that they replaced all the other puppeteers.
Surely this will be a wonderful, very successful movie and not a stunt-casting-ridden, painfully unfunny abomination that flies in the face of everything that the Muppets stand for!
