Hey man sorry about your male co-star. Turns out you guys had too much sexual tension on screen so he was written into a lazy, heterosexual romance arc that lacks chemistry and depth and actually just makes him look even more queer tbh. Now he's off pretending to be happy with somebody else when the love of his life was right there all along. I'm so sorry dude. It will probably happen again :/
Summary: The secession of Atlantis from Earth and its reformation as a city state is told through thirty-six unreliable narrators, in a mix of excerpts from academic books, interviews, poetry and so on, and a connecting straight narrative. (Summary from Fanlore)
Author: @cesperanza
Note from submitter: Despite only landing in novella territory at 52k words, Victors is one of the few fics that I think reaches the quality of a published novel while being totally inextricable from its fic roots. An insanely ambitious effort, completely worth the level of acclaim it's enjoyed in SGA fandom. It's THE McShep fic. Even if you're not a SGA fan, the way it plays with format is compelling on its own.
I made a post similar to this before but if Stargate: Atlantis was airing today the McKay love would be so intense. He’s literally THE blorbo blueprint. he’s wet, he’s pathetic, he’s whiny, he’s a coward, he’s the bravest man in the world, he has incredible character growth, he accidentally destroyed a solar system, he saved the world countless times, he’s annoying, he cares about his friends, he’s nd coded. he’s such a fully developed and complicated character played by a genuinely talented actor.
don’t even get me started on McShep lol. the only reason it lost the shipping poll so bar (rip) is because it’s an older fandom. McShep makes me feral fr fr.
This poll is a celebration of fandom history; we're aware that there are certain issues with many of the listed pairings and sources, but they are a part of that history. Please do not take this as an endorsement, and refrain from harassment.
Version 3 of the fic I bound for the Renegade Bindery gift exchange! (you can see speranza and @gempothospress's versions here)
I had a lot of fun typesetting this--I took the epitaph motif from the section titles and ran with it. I have never seen any form of Stargate, so thanks to cesperanza and @annerbhp for consulting. Other things I hadn't done before making these three books: cover cutouts, or foil.
"I don't know much about Stargate," said I, "so I'll just put a Stargate on the cover. Should be pretty straightforward." I then proceeded to learn that foil quills were not my friend, that the cricut foil head was finicky as hell (it works beautifully on bookcloth-- but not on leather or buckram,) and in the case of this particular edition, remember too late that unlike leather and buckram, you cannot wipe glue off bookcloth with water. I think I might start taping wax paper over my covers when I'm casing in so that I stop having this problem.
That being said, both the foil and the cutouts were kind of addicting. So I might end up sneaking them into more books where they may or may not belong.
sheppard you do not have to clarify ‘in the way a friend cares about another friend’ when rodney asks if they all love him - no one was thinking about it that way apart from you my guy
McKay in SG-1: I hate this douchebag. Carter should send him to the planet with the black hole. Or put him in a box with some lemons. Or that the Russians send him out into the Siberian wilderness and he gets eaten by a polar bear. God I hate this man.
McKay in SGA: I love my grumpy hypoglycemic Canadian scientist. He's a dickhead but he's funny. I love watching him get mocked by condescending children. Also he's gay and in love with Sheppard.
thinking about a mcshep wedding that is some kind of alien happy place hallucination. we know from this sort of thing happening in cannon – that mist, the replicators, kolya – that sheppard only believes false realities when they're dogshit. he fundamentally doesn't believe he deserves good things, so when good things happen, he doesn't trust it. he goes looking for something wrong, and the false reality starts to tear at the seams
with this... well, it is falling apart. there are obvious tells that it's not real, like elizabeth is officiating but didn't she– [STATIC]
but he keeps pretending he can't see the cracks bc he wants it so bad. ford is there and he's healthy, there's no such thing as dadt, the wraith are gone, rodney is so beautiful in his suit, and can't he just fucking have this?
got up to the shrine in my SGA rewatch, and man you'd think that it really wouldnt be as mcshep heavy as we remember it from a few gifsets but man i was i wrong. so many small things that hit me like the way rodney just straight away trust john when he suggests the shrine, the way hes constantly calling john and smiling at him. also sheppards smile when hes remembering beer on the pier.
the way john is constantly looking out for him angling his body to him and looming protectively
