The Phantom Martian: Chapter 12
No I totally didn't hit post instead of save as draft at 3am what are you talking about
This fic is a crossover between Danny Phantom x The Martian. You do not have to have read or watched The Martian in order to understand this fic. I went into this fic thinking it would be a 10k oneshot/twoshot and now look what we've become.
xxxx
Summary: When Astronaut Mark Watney went to Mars, he knew there was a chance he'd never come home. Now, though, he's determined to last long enough for NASA to save him because this whole dying for science thing is not as fun as it sounds.
Meanwhile, Danny Fenton is just trying to keep his identity a secret amidst a potential crisis with his powers. Seriously, what's up with that weird current under his skin? Why is he having so much trouble controlling it? And why does it feel so familiar...?
In a fit of determination (and possible stupidity), Danny goes to Mars to save Watney, only to add to both their crises when he arrives and can't get home. Will NASA save them? Will Danny have a home to return to if they do?
Chapter WC: 6454
Fic Tags: Danny Fenton & Mark Watney, Canon Divergence, Ecton AU
Chapter excerpt under the cut
xxxx
As soon as he woke up, exhaustion hit him with more thrust than a rocket launching off Cape Canaveral, and he fell back to sleep.
The second time he woke up, the fatigue was just as severe, but this time there was a horrible wailing cursing his ears. Something so sinister, so downright evil that it had gripped his skull, pounding every inch of his brain with its fists and refusing to let him go back to sleep.
It could only be one thing, Danny realized:
Disco.
He hissed, or he let out a pathetic whine—he couldn't be sure—and cracked open his eyes. Bright lights surrounded him, and the onslaught of disco music defogged in his ears, assaulting him now with clarity.
Blocking the blinding lights with his palm, he let out another grunt—more like a whimper—of discontent. There was a familiar high-pitched beep, and then silence.

On Repeat Playlist Tag Game
Rules: Shuffle your repeat playlist 10 times and tag 10 people. Tagged by @say-lene! :)
I’m about to be exposed for my terrible taste in music so here goes. To make this more fun for y’all - under each song I will give my Durgetash-flavored assessment, even for songs which absolutely do not fit at all.
Tagging: @defira85 @memaidraws @asteriasfallingstarsandtears @laubritter @neko-rhapsodos @sleepykitty21 @durgeteriormotives @jellymellydraws @abyssalaerlocke (y’all might’ve already been tagged sorry if so!!)
9/10 starting strong. I actually think this fits Durgetash quite well especially with Gortash's built-myself-from-nothing narrative.
7/10 durgetash rating - this is kind of like the song that they both wish they could feel about each other. Like "yea I wanna be the dude who can kiss you all sweet but if we don't rip each other apart in bed Im gonna get lobotomized so"
Oh man I hate that this is here and I'm really not big on Shawn Mendes because he's a little too bubblegum for me but this song is catchy. 8/10 Durgetash rating due to the lyrics - a dark cover of this song would fit durgetash perfectly. Its essentially "I can't believe my murder girlfriend keeps dragging me into the sewers but damn she's hot"
11/10 Durgetash rating. 10/10 for the lyrics and +1 because Enver Gortash loves Panic! At The Disco.
So yea I'm a musical fan and yes this is a durgetash song for me. Let me sell you on the vision first. Durge gets lobotomized and Orin tells Enver and he immediately wants to blow the whole plan to shit because the love of his life is gone but then the whole ass Church of Bane is like nah just like drink her away my guy and so the Banites Party Hard (tm) and Enver is like fine I'll stick with the plan but he's dead inside. 10/10
10000/10 Durgetash rating. My sister Orin says 'Oh she's just being bhaalspawn.' (is this the most embarrassing song that could ever come up? you betcha.)
This is definitely The Vibe for them. 10/10 just Durgetash being nasty. Check yourself for whiplash from the last one.
I wanted to say like 5/10 but "I don't want to keep secrets just to keep you" got me like hmmmm. Also "he looks up grinning like a devil." hmmmmmm. So I'll give it a 9/10 under one condition: default Dragonborn Durge would have to be in the music video for this in a white frilly dress.
This could probably really fit some people's Durges but it doesn't fit my idea of Durge so I'm only gonna give it a 2/10 durgetash rating. However? Orin could rock the shit out of this vibe. 10/10 Orin song.
15/10 Durgetash song. Hot as fuck, could fit both pre and post tadpole. Even mentions a priest. Strong ending.
That's all folks!

Meet my 3rd Disco Elysium OC: Danny the Entroponeticist aka a Pale Scientist
Name: Daniel Arden Naveen
Nickname: Danny
Age: 33
Gender: Male (Trans)
Sexuality: Gay
Height: 5’10”
Weight: 150lbs
Race: Semenese
Danny grew up in Oranje as an only child to a single immigrant mother. He grew up poor, his mother working as a house cleaner for the wealthy homes in the nice neighborhoods and singing at night for some extra cash. Danny's father had been a Paledriver, but never came home after a trip, leaving his mother and Danny alone. From a young age, Danny was a curious child, always wanting to know how things worked and constantly on the move poking his nose into things he shouldn't. He because fascinated by the Pale from the time the basics were taught in elementary school. Danny would fantasize about traveling the Pale, hanging around the loading stations down by the ports for a chance to speak with the drivers and watch the Coalition airships take off. In high school, he ran track and field, seeing it as a way to help train his body and get fit for the goal of traversing the Pale. He had a high school physics teacher who took a shine to him, feeding his hunger for knowledge by getting him access to any and all books he could, and mentoring him one on one. At the age of 17, Danny built his own version of a Pale Latitude Compressor as well as his own suit using scrap from a friend in the autoshop class and old radios he had thrifted. He borrowed an old row boat from a friend of his father's and set out to the part of the Pale that hung off the coast, eating away at the sea ice. He completed 4 successful trips into the Pale, but his Compressor failed him on the 5th attempt. When he didn't come home, his mother contacted the Coalition Guard and, after a few hours, they located him and took him in to be questioned. Danny spent the entire night and half of the next day being questioned and evaluated before he was offered a scholarship to the University in Graad, making him one of the younger applicants of the Entroponetics program. At 21 years old, Danny graduated with his doctorate and has worked as an Entroponeticist for the last 12 years.
Most of what Danny does is the experimentation that others will not do; the dangerous acts that put one smack dab in the middle of the fray in order to know if something will work or not. He tests the updates to the equipment, proves or disproves theories, and pushes past the limits in order to see what is on the other side. It has earned him some scars, the strange swirls on the back of his hands from when a suit failed and began to be eaten by the Pale. It's also earned him quite the reputation, being cited in over 200 studies over the past 12 years as well as being published on his own three times.
Danny is constantly bouncing from Isola to Isola, never in one place longer than a few months. As a result, he was single for most of his life, not bothering to worry about anything other than his job. He finds people confusing, always feeling like he doesn't know the rules of social interactions. Danny wishes that people would just say what they mean instead of dancing around everything. As a result, he is rather to the point, and though certainly not rude, he does often hear this behavior can be rather jarring to those who aren't expecting him to be so honest. When he gives you his attention, he gives you all of it, which can feel a little intense sometimes. Danny is an incredibly bubbly person, easily excitable and almost always smiling, even when he is working on a problem. Making friends is rather easy for him, though he always seems to keep people at arm's length.
Aside from his experimentations, Danny is part of the division of scientists who investigates isolary entroponetics: the idea of the Pale being able to form from inside an Isola. It is part of why he is constantly on the move, though Revachol is often on his list. He has bounced in and out of Jamrock over the last 12 years after earning his degree. It was on one of these trips that he first met Jean Vicquemare ten years prior. It was a brief meeting, one that Jean remembered but that Danny had forgotten due to other major things that had happened at the same time. Their first meeting had been rather poor, Jean mistook Danny for a criminal; as a Junior Officer at the time, Jean went undercover at a gay bar in order to flirt with the young scientist. Danny had already been teetering on the edge of giving up on dating, so when a young Jean had made a fool out of him and grilled him for information, it was the switch that Danny needed to simply shut off that part of his life for good. The two men ended up meeting ten years later when Danny had been called by Trant in order to come on as a secondary Special Consultant, Danny already having been in town to investigate the Dolorian Church of Humanity. Danny didn't remember Jean, but Jean certainly remembered him, feeling guilty over his behavior all those years later.
Ultimately, the two men end up pursuing a relationship and Danny laughs about the situation, releasing Jean from his guilt. They complement one another well; Danny's bright and happy nature with Jean's sarcastic biting own. They work well, Jean needing the honesty that Danny provides and Danny very much appreciating Jean not allowing Danny to shrug off being cared for. There are some ways in which their relationship might now be "healthy", but it works for them; Danny loving when Jean gets possessive and Jean finding Danny's petty streak very flattering. The depression that Jean deals with and how he deals with it- pushing people away- does clash with Danny's fear of rejection, but they find a way to make it work. It helps that both men are fiercely loyal, those feelings driving them to the extreme when either is at risk. Both have helped the other come out of their shell in different ways, finding comfort and safety in one another even with everything else strives to be chaotic.
Danny is trans and began testosterone at 18. That is also when he got his top surgery, though he got his tubes tied at 21 as a "graduation gift" to himself. His mother was not supportive, being incredibly religious, and when she died when Danny was 23, they hadn't been speaking. It is one of his biggest regrets and is part of why he shut himself off to the world. He is not religious but he was raised in Dolorianism as a child.

Masterlist of Fandom Playlists
as a neurodivergent person, i literally can’t write if the vibes of what i’m listening to isn’t on point, so i thought i’d share a few of my fandom playlists down below! some of them are specific to fics, others are certain relationships, some are purely vibes. i’ve included links to all of them, just click on the title. welcome to the chaos that is my mind
Tumblr media
there was an idea
this one is just vibes tm. songs that i listen to when i’m picturing fights or action. i named it after the avengers because i liked the way it sounded, and i generally like the mcu’s music choices.
it's angst hours baby
these songs just put me in the mood to ruin someone's life.
ethereally eldritch
this one’s still under pretty heavy construction, but when it’s finished i want it to be a Danny Phantom inspired playlist that’s a bit spooky. i’m going for grungy, spooky, punk vibes.
i've learned to love falling
this one is a Dick Grayson character playlist. i just wanted to add some songs that remind me of him/his vibes. think abba, Britney Spears, and a little bit of punk pop.
i'm the most cutest girl in the world
a Paulina Sanchez playlist!!! i love her so much and i realized i didn't have many 'bad bitch' playlists, so it felt fitting. this is a lot of female artists, mostly pop and rap. however, i have thought about adding some 'bubblegrunge.' thoughts?
i’ve been bamboozled (into loving you)
an Anger Management (Jazz Fenton/Jason Todd) playlist <3 basically a lot of the songs that remind me of their relationship or that i think fit their vibes.
👑Space Princess💫
a Space Princess (Dani Phantom/Mar’i Grayson) playlist, because i am so soft for them. it’s a soft sapphic playlist that’s just as lovely as my favorite girls
🏹Trick Shot💘
i will admit, this one started off as Dani Phantom/Lian Harper, but at some point became more of a sapphic modern disco playlist. it still have light, fun vibes that i associate with them though.
👑 Crowns & Clowns 💗
now we’re getting into the fic specific playlists. this playlist is a BIG spoiler for my fic “The Princess and the Outlaws” so listen at your own risk. basically all the chapter titles for that fic are different Taylor Swift songs and they’re on that playlist. past those songs, we get into more vibes territory. this playlist in particular has a few different sections since it deals with the polycule Jazz Fenton/Jason Todd/Roy Harper/Koriand’r. the first section being chapter titles obviously, the next being songs about their relationship, then songs they would sing to/about their partners, then a girl power section because Kori and Jazz kick ass, and lastly non-romantic songs that give off their group vibes.
Blush Bobbin
this playlist is specifically for my fic "hitting pitch black streets with pink clad heart beats." it's mostly Panic at the Disco, Fall Out Boy, and Matt Maeson right now, but i want to add some more to it eventually. fun fact, i named the playlist that because a group of robins can be called a Blush or a Bobbin, among other things.
Bellflower Manor
this playlist goes along with a fic i'm cowriting called "Brides, Birds, and Batshit Family Matters." if you know, you know.
forgotten kids
this is a grungier Dani/Lian playlist for a fic i'm planning "Urban Legends are Warnings from the Dead." it's meant to be a bit spooky, a bit grungy, a bit hopeful---because what is Gotham if not full of hope?
Gotham Academy
this playlist is also specific to my fic “Wisteria” which is a dp/dc dark academia au. it’s a mixture between dark academia, dark forest, investigation, spooky, magical, grungy, gay vibes. it’s doing a lot right now, and i might go back and edit it sometime some.
❤️‍🔥let me show you power💋♟
this. playlist. okay, so it’s specific to the dp/dc leverage au i’m working on but bare with me. it’s punk, punk pop, angry feminine, anti-hero vibes. it’s about manipulation and being alluring, and falling in love somewhere along the way. i rather like this one as you can tell lol.
alt universe
so, this playlist was actually made for a fic i started a long time ago “See the Light.” i’m not currently working on it, but i really like the concept so i’ll probably revisit it one day. it’s alternative, dark vibes, very much so focusing on the dark parts of the fic. it’s probably one of my favorite playlists i’ve every made, the songs just hit in or out of context.
🕊prettybird🌷
this playlist was made specifically for my very indulgent Batfam/Charmed (1998) au. it’s based on the main pairing of the fic, Dick Grayson/Melinda Halliwell. it’s a lot of love songs, pinning and accidently falling in love vibes, as well as a generous amount of ABBA.

i was wondering if you associate any songs with the drivers? other than the obvious ones like smooth operator or that one friday song. just more like “this is written about them” or “this song is their vibe”
there’s this song my boyfriend loves called CHERIE by darius and it reminds me of charles. also taylor swift’s sparks fly for some reason? i think it’s the green eyes lyric. plus feather by sabrina carpenter and karma by taylor. HES TAYLOR CODED TO ME??? and im honestly not even her HUGEST fan so idk why. anyways, these are more songs that remind me of him then ones he’d listen to.
adele reminds me of lando cause i can just fully imagine him knowing every adele song. also greedy by tate mcrae, never be like you (idk who that’s by), blame it by t-pain (i literally have no reason for this one😭), meet me halfway by the black eyed peas, and we found love by rihanna. oh and fireball by pitbull
dangerous woman by ariana, fetish by selena gomez, and moonlight by kali uchis for carlos
voulez-vous by abba and mamas boy by dominic fike (maybe cause it says maxa maxa million or maybe cause the sad tiktok edits) for max.
the real slim shady and without me for seb vettel
5SOS always gives me danny ric but i think that’s cause i accidentally mentally mashed all my fav aussie’s together. also life is a highway and this one rap song i actually got FROM him that’s so stupid but it’s like “i feel real good today.” paper planes by m.i.a and sunflower vol 6 by harry.
i have so many more but this is too long already. i’ll end it by saying i genuinely think the entire sport of F1 gives viva la vida and that “all the birds of a feather” rio song
👻🤍
OKAY WAIT THIS IS A PRETTY GOOD LIST??
i do totally agree that charles is taylor swift coded, but i was listening to folklore the other day and he's so mirrorball coded and it definitely breaks my heart, but i also feel like mirrorball can also be fitting for a lot of other drivers😭 he's also so fearless coded if you know what i mean😭 but i feel like adele is more charles' lane because he's a sad boy at heart and he said he does enjoy her music👀
GREEDY BY TATE MCRAE IS SO LANDO CODED AND I WILL NOT SHUT UP ABOUT IT EVER😭 for some reason i do associate a lot of olivia rodrigo's songs with lando, at least the upbeat ones, like i feel like he's just a teenage girl at heart and i love him for that. also, in a weird way unwritten by natasha bedingfield reminds me so much of lando, i guess he also gives me romcom vibes🫠
i've been saying this for months, i even have fic based off of it that i have to finish but maroon by taylor swift is carlos coded!! i do have to finish that fic but yeah😭 also, he's so lana coded?? like million dollar man, off to the races, lust for life... HE EXUDES OLD MONEY ENERGY FOR SOME REASON (probably because he kinda is)
there's this one song that my dad used to play for me called sun goes down by david jordan and i associate that song with seb a lot, but honestly he can be anything coded really?? taylor swift? fits. eminem? also fits because he used to be a little menace. i also kinda think panic! at the disco and seb could be a vibe🫡
to me daniel is definitely country coded and that's it😂 like i'm talking dolly parton😭 9 to 5? definitely his anthem. also, PITBULL😭
OKAY THIS WAS SO MUCH FUN SO THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR MAKING ME THINK ABOUT THIS BESTIE

'Cillian Murphy just might be the definition of magnetic on-screen. He can pull the viewer in with his intensity, vulnerability, or good old-fashioned charm, whatever best fits the role he’s playing. Whether he's an apocalypse-surviving reluctant hero or a quietly intimidating comic book villain, a brave rebel leader or a troubled soldier, Murphy can captivates with his performance.
Born in Cork, Ireland, Murphy got his start in theater in his hometown, and had his first professional acting role in the play, Disco Pigs. He later starred in the film adaptation of Disco Pigs, just before his breakout role in the zombie horror film, 28 Days Later, directed by Danny Boyle. As would become a trend with Murphy, once he found a collaborator, he would often reteam with them: He once again worked with Boyle on the sci-fi thriller Sunshine.
Perhaps no director has been a bigger fan of Murphy than Christopher Nolan has been. The filmmaker first cast the actor in Batman Begins, a role that Murphy reprised briefly in The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises. They worked together again for Inception and Dunkirk.
Now, Murphy stars in the filmmaker's historical thriller, Oppenheimer, in theaters July 21. In an impressive ensemble cast that includes Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., Emily Blunt, and Florence Pugh, Murphy plays J. Robert Oppenheimer, the theoretical physicist and "father of the atomic bomb," whose work on the Manhattan Project during World War II led to the invention of the first nuclear weapons.
With this highly anticipated film coming out, below, A.frame takes a look back at 10 essential films in Murphy's body of work.
1. Disco Pigs 2001
Murphy already had several films under his belt by the time he starred in Disco Pigs, a romantic crime drama based on the play of the same name — which Murphy also starred in. Here, he plays Pig, a youth in his late teens who has shared an intense friendship with Runt (Elaine Cassidy) his entire life. On the precipice of their 17th birthday (they were born on the same day in the same hospital), Pig develops feelings for Runt just as she’s starting to be interested in another boy. The intensity of Pig and Runt’s relationship worries their parents, and Runt is sent to a boarding school. Pig does not take this well, resulting in a tragic outcome for both of them. Disco Pigs gave audiences a glimpse of the intensity Murphy could bring to a role, and that he had the makings of a star.
2. 28 Days Later 2002
28 Days Later is not only the movie that gave mindless zombies (or infected technically) terrifying speed, it’s the movie that put Murphy on the map. Oscar winner Danny Boyle’s horror thriller stars Murphy as Jim, a man who wakes up from a coma to find that the U.K. has been destroyed after the "rage" virus swept through the country. Alone at first, he meets other survivors, played by Naomie Harris, Megan Burns, and Oscar nominee Brendan Gleeson, and the group struggles to survive the hordes of the infected monsters that remain. Murphy was a total standout in the small but stacked cast, easily establishing himself as a star.
3. Batman Begins 2005
Murphy entered his villain era when he was cast as a Batman supervillain in Nolan's first Batman film, Batman Begins. He plays Dr. Jonathan Crane, an Arkham Asylum psychiatrist who wears a burlap mask and utilizes a fear-inducing hallucinogen to terrorize his victims as the Scarecrow. Batman himself falls victim to the Scarecrow at one point. He’s not the final bad guy in the movie, but he's an important antagonist who pops up again in cameos in both sequels, The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises.
4. Red Eye 2005
This Wes Craven-directed thriller takes place almost entirely on a plane, and part of what makes it work so well are its two leads: Rachel McAdams as everywoman Lisa and Murphy as the charming but threatening Jackson Rippner. Jackson reveals himself to be a hitman mastermind, attempting a political assassination by forcing Lisa to rearrange things at the hotel she runs to achieve his goal, threatening to kill her father (and many others) if she fails. The interplay between Murphy and McAdams is top notch, with Murphy playing another truly memorable villain in the process.
5. Breakfast on Pluto 2005
Breakfast on Pluto, based on a novel of the same name, stars Murphy as Kitten, a trans woman searching for her birth mother after being abandoned as a child. Kitten navigates a wide range of circumstances in 1970s Ireland and London, from the IRA to magicians to sex work, all while maintaining her kind and optimistic nature. Murphy’s portrayal of Kitten is thoughtful and hopeful, as the character wins over people with her innocent honesty and self-acceptance.
6. The Wind That Shakes the Barley 2006
One of Murphy’s most defining roles thus far is the one that takes him back to his home country and its tragic fight for independence. In Ken Loach’s war drama The Wind That Shakes the Barley, Murphy plays one of a pair of brothers who end up on opposite sides of the Irish Civil War after fighting together in the war for Ireland’s independence. It's a heartbreaking film, and features an incredible performance by Murphy as he goes from idealistic rebel to leader in the fight for Irish independence, with a devastating ending reflecting the ongoing conflict in Ireland.
7. Sunshine 2007
Sunshine reunited Murphy with his 28 Days Later director Boyle for a sci-fi thriller about a group of astronauts on a mission to restart the sun and prevent the Earth from freezing. Murphy is part of an incredible ensemble cast including Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh, Rose Byrne, Chris Evans, Cliff Curtis, Hiroyuki Sanada, Benedict Wong, and Troy Garity. Sunshine almost feels like a suspenseful play in outer space, led by Murphy as the physicist who created a device that will hopefully save the world, or doom it if it fails.
8. Inception 2010
Inception marked Murphy’s second major collaboration with Nolan, appearing as the target of Leonardo DiCaprio’s dream heist crew. Murphy is the heir to a business empire, who the team plans to "incept" with the idea to dissolve his father’s company. Though secondary to the main action and the dream landscapes, Murphy delivers a powerful performance, going through an emotional arc with his father despite the manipulations of DiCaprio’s team (including Elliot Page, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Tom Hardy). The film received eight Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, and went on to win for Best Cinematography, Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing, and Best Visual Effects.
9. Anthropoid 2016
Anthropoid, based on a true story, stars Murphy and Jamie Dornan as a pair of Slovak and Czech soldiers, respectively, participating in Operation Anthropoid, the real life assassination of Reinhard Heydrich, the principal architect of the Holocaust. Murphy and Dornan are both excellent as they struggle to complete their mission, caught between the need to make an important blow against the Nazis and the potential fallout if they’re caught.
10. Dunkirk 2017
Reunited with Nolan for a fifth time, Murphy joins another ensemble, including Kenneth Branagh, Tom Hardy, Mark Rylance, and Barry Keoghan, in the war epic Dunkirk, about the real life evacuation of thousands of British troops from a beach in France early in WWII. He’s credited only as "Shivering Soldier," the sole survivor of a U-boat attack rescued by one of the civilian boats headed for Dunkirk to rescue soldiers. Murphy brings all his intensity to the role, a man mentally destroyed by his experiences in the war, and terrified at the thought of returning to a battlefield. Dunkirk received a total of eight Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and Best Directing, and went on to win for Best Editing, Best Sound Editing, and Best Sound Mixing.'

Ooh anytime I can relate a Taylor Swift song to Sam that’s a win in my books (because he’d hate it).
Sam - Delicate; I’ve said it before but it’s the first verse and the chorus that does it for me.
Josh - Young Hearts Run Free; so this isn’t Taylor but Josh and disco go hand in hand.
Jake - Lover, You Should Have Come Over
(I can’t think of a Danny one right not but I’ll come back to it)
Ok, I’ve tried to give Delicate to a single one of them before but I just can’t Delicate is all of them!!! I can’t pick!!🫣
Josh is our disco dancing diva so of course!!! It’s very fitting!
Jake and Jeff Buckley!!!!!! How have I never put two and two together before!!!! I will never be the same!! Gonna go listen to this song on loop now
I also love the interview where Jeff is like “the person who stole The Cranberries guitar in DC, you’re gonna burn in hell forever.” that line loves in my head rent free.

IV.
*Lacey*
Early afternoon Penny dropped the costumes. Dad wanted to back out of it but she said something which shut him up. I loved this woman, she was amazing. I had to get to the Hard Deck around five to help with the decorations. I put my dress into a backpack and left the house leaving only a note on the table.
“Finally you’re here! I have so many stuff to put up.” From the colorful disco balls to the lights Penny didn’t leave a single thing out. “I hope you brought your dress.”
“Of course I did. It has more colors than I have in my closet.” I giggled.
“Good good. Anything fits to it.”
“Who will be the third in the band?” I forgot to ask yesterday.
“Cam.” I really hoped she’d be okay with me tagging along.
When we were decorating she arrived and helped us. She seemed really cool but I didn’t want to push myself onto her. We talked a little and she told us about last night. A little competition she had with the aviators.
“I think it’s pretty good.” I took a few steps back looking around the place.
“Nice job.” Cam held up her hand for a high five. Smiling I hit it.
Slowly everyone we knew arrived and with them the rest of the people who usually come here. Costumes everywhere. Hangman dressed us Danny from Grease. There were leather jackets and colorful suits. Gosh it was amazing. Bradley and Carrie arrived too dressed up as Johnny and Baby from Dirty dancing.
Which kinda hit in the guts that dad arrived with them. He hugged Carrie and placed a kiss onto her head. I felt like that he loved her more than he ever did me.
“Lacey have you met Carrie? Bradley’s bride?” He smiled.
“Yes. Yesterday.” I nodded and felt like crying. As much as this night sounded good I wanted it to end.
“Go sweetheart, Bradley get something for her to drink before the rush.” He patted on Bradley’s back. I wasn’t jealous of him but that he liked a random girl more than me was an arrow into the heart.
Cam already changed into her costume and was talking to Hangman. She was so gorgeous and just loved. Iceman was amazing and her friends seemed cool too. I know that my father was the legend, the Maverick but I couldn’t help but think that he wouldn’t be who he is.
“Penny I’ll stay here you can go change if you want to.” I smiled at her.
“Sweetie you’ll change too. I don’t know what’s going on in his head but I’m sure as hell I’ll have a few words about that.” She sent lightnings with her eyes.
“No. Please don’t. It’s okay, I don’t belong here anyways.”
“You will have a good night, because you deserve it.” She hugged me like mom did. “Let’s go sweet pea, we’re gonna change. Cam watch the bar for a sec.” She told her.
We had the jean costumes. Ruffles on the lower leg, golden belt scarf around the waist, a blue-white top and a jean jacket.
“I think you look amazing.” Penny pinned my hair back.
“I don’t feel like it.”
“Darling don’t let any man ruin your night. Even if it’s your father.”
“Thank you Penny.”
When the clock hit nine almost everyone in the bar singed karaoke and many people were dancing in the floor. Penny’s words helped then, but it just wasn’t easy.
He was talking to his pilots. Laughing, smiling and buddying with them.
When Carrie started talking to him he was all ears. She giggled on something that he said and then she hugged him. Like I did when I was five.
I wished mom was here. She’d know what to say. She was never afraid and..she is dead.
I felt the tears gather in my eyes.
“I’ll be back in a sec.” I shouted trough the crowd and went to the bathroom. The most of the people were men so right now body was here. I looked into the mirror.
Eyes red. Tears ruining my makeup and nothing was alright. It was all a mess and I didn’t know how could I act like I was okay. I was not, I wanted mom back. I wanted the weekend dinners with my grandparents but most of it all I wanted back my childhood. Now the tears were streaming down my face. Since the accident it was almost a daily thing.
I started to wipe my face but then the blood started dripping from my nose.
“Fucking hell, now again.” I cried and sat on the floor shaking. Trying to stop the bleeding.
The door opened and I really hoped it was just a girl in the need of the toilet.
“Lace, jesus..” Bradley walked in and kneeled beside me. “What happened? Are you okay?” He pushed my head a little and pinched my nose at the bridge.
“I’m okay. It will stop soon don’t worry.” I still sobbed and I hated myself for it.
“Fuck.. we need more tissue here.” He jumped up and got paper towels from the sink. “Give that to me.” He pointed at the dirty one.
“No, you’ll be bloody then.” I said but he laughed up sweetly.
“That’s the last thing I care about right now.”
He sat down beside me changing the tissue to a clean one.
“Thank you.” A teardrop rolled down on my cheek.
“Does this happen often?” He asked as he gently pulled me back against his chest. Now my head was on his shoulder.
“Only a few times.”
“What did the doctors say about it?” He was still pinching my nose bridge.
“That it can be from the trauma.”
“Gosh what’s Mav doing.. he should be here now.” He said almost angrily.
“You can go if you want to. I’m fine.”
“No. I didn’t say it because of that, but he should be here next to you.” He tucked my hair back.
“It’s okay.” I breathed out.
“No it’s not.” He placed a soft kiss into my hair.
My eyes were closed it felt so safe leaning against him. It was like nothing can get me. I wish we could stay like this forever. Even if we are in a bar’s bathroom. But then I remembered that it was the place where dad ultimately made mom fall in love with him.
I thought crying was over but I broke out sobbing again like a child.
“Gosh Lacey…” He probably knew the story, it involved his father too. He held me tighter and pulled even closer to himself. “It’s all gonna be alright.” He calmly said and let me just cry out all of my tears.
“I can’t do this.” I cried out. “It’s either the nightmares or the memories. I could have helped them. I should have saved them.”
“Shhh.. god you have to calm down. The blood is just too much, you will faint if you can’t calm down Lace.” He turned me to face him. One of my legs were over his bit I was still sitting on the ground. “You have me, breath with me. Come on. There’s this thing called box breathing. Breathe in, one, two, three, four. Hold it for four.” He counted again. “Now breathe in slowly.”
I didn’t know how he did it, but slowly I got calmer and the bleeding stopped. His hand were already covered with the red fluid. Cam opened the door.
“Holy shit.” Her eyes widened by the sight of us. “What happened here?” It was a poetic question. She saw the tears and my bloody nose.
“Wash up Brad, I’ll get her cleaned up.” Cam helped me up and wet a few paper towels meanwhile Bradley washed off the blood from his hands.
“Thank you.. both.” I said when I could finally breathe normally.
“It’s nothing. But I should go out before more ladies come and I’ll be in trouble.” He smiled and I almost forgot he had a fiancee. After he left only we were left in the room.
“I can’t believe that Mav is this ignorant.” Cam fumed.
I shrugged.
“That’s how it is.”
“And Bradley?”
“What about him?”
“I mean, I’m sure he’s doing okay?” I wasn’t sure what she wanted.
“We both know that too-sweet-angel bitch isn’t right for him. You were the one who Carole mentioned once.”
“She did what?” My eyes lit up by the name of her. Gosh I wish she was here.
“Once she said. She’s found the one who looked at his son like he was the sun.” She sadly smiled. “I could never ask her who she meant then, but I know now.”
“Please don’t make me cry again, I don’t think I have any more tears left.” I lightly laughed.
“I wasn’t planning to.” She too.
“Really the worst situations bring people closer.”
“They do. And you know what we gonna do? Show that bitch and your dad that we are so much cooler than they ever were.”
“By..?”
“We gonna sing.”
“I’m scared.”
“You should be. Penny chose Angel eyes.”
“Is she.. she is serious.”
“Come on, show them.” She looked at me with a smile.
So we did. Penny got the microphones and we stood on the small, quick built stage.
“I can’t believe we’re doing this.” I whispered to Cam.
“To be honest neither I do.” She giggled.
“Lace, you start.” Penny smirked. She goddamn planned this.
“Last night, I was taking a walk along the river
And I saw him together with a young girl
And the look that he gave her made me shiver.” Cam helped in. So we started.
“'Cause he always used to look at me that way
Then I thought maybe I should walk right up to her and say
Ah-ha-ha, it's a game he likes to play.” The music just took us all in. The lights were turned off and the disco balls were turning around reflecting back the colorful party lights.
“Look into his angel eyes
One look and you're hypnotized
He'll take your heart and you must pay the price
Look into his angel eyes
You'll think you're in paradise
And one day you'll find out he wears a disguise
Don't look too deep into those angel eyes” The three of us started the chorus together.
To my surprise everyone in the bar sang along loudly and a ‘one time’ performance turned into a whole concert.
The next verse was mine. And oh it was a strong one.
“Sometimes when I'm lonely, I sit and think about him
And it hurts to remember all the good times
When I thought I could never live without him
And I wonder does it have to be the same
Every time when I see him, will it bring back all the pain
Ah-ha-ha, how can I forget that name?” And accidentally I looked at Bradley who was looking right at me. I can’t forget his name.
He was singing just like everybody else. I turned my eyes away from him when I saw Ice looking in my direction. No need to be discovered.
When the song came to its end nobody let us get down from the stage. Hangman got a rose from somewhere - I don’t know how he does this to be honest - and he threw it to Cam winking. She just showed her middle finger to her in laugher.
The next song was Waterloo which is an all time favorite. It was unbelievably good.
We jumped off the stage and finally could catch some air. They continued singing other songs but I needed to go outside a little.
The night breeze was cool and made me shiver.
“Never knew you could sing.” Bradley walked outside.
“I don’t think you’ve ever asked. Also it wasn’t that good. The crowd helped.” I tightened the jean jacket around me.
“You were good. Once you’ll sing with me.”
“I know it’s about a song. But which one?”
“I’ll show you.” He led me inside to the piano.
He pushed down the first few chords.
The aviators gathered around the piano.
“You shake my nerves and you rattle my brain
Too much love drives a man insane.” He looked up because I was still standing beside him.
“Come on Bradshaw that was THE song!” I playfully hit his shoulder. He always sang this when we were younger.
“Sit your ass down and sing with me. And then he continued
You broke my will, but what a thrill
Goodness gracious, great balls of fire.”
“I laughed at love 'cause I thought it was funny
You came along and moved me, honey
I've changed my mind, this love is fine
Goodness gracious, great balls of fire” I laughed we sang together. I don’t know if I sang or laughed more. But he made me forget. He made it all better.

Finally saw Grease (1978) today. I know, I know, but I've only been gay for a couple of years, I probably skipped it to watch more Orange County Choppers or something.
As a movie it is good. The cast is great, especially Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, apart or together. Travolta feels like the jock playing theater, which fits Danny exactly. And ONJ was a ray of goddamn sunlight her entire life, and she certainly is here. Together they are just electric. Everyone else is good, even if none of them really get time to do much with what they're given.
As a musical...it is okay. The story is unfocused and the songs feel more like a revue. Danny and Sandy are supposed to be the focus of the story but they just sort of bounce around until getting together at the end. Their relationship doesn't have an arc and no one seems to learn anything, except maybe "if you are a jerk, people won't like you." The rest of the time is padded with odd vignettes about side characters that are fine for what they are, but are just aimless diversions. Which is a shame, because the things that happen to Rizzo and Frenchy are more emotionally compelling than Danny and Sandy being brats off and on.
I faintly remember hearing this movie was a mess to put together and the original musical has a bunch of different versions with songs swapped in and out at different times. It feels like that. The songs are good, but again, like a revue, sprinkled in almost at random. Well choreographed and shot, though. Especially the weird Frankie Avalon surrealist number out of nowhere. That is probably the best part of the movie (aside from the Frankie Valli disco theme song). I'd rate the musical higher if more of the numbers were like this. As in, like BOTH of these songs. Maybe it is just because both are sung by industry veterans, but they have so much more kick than everything else.
This serves mostly as a primary source for what people in the late 70s thought the 50s were like, and that is tuner gangs of 30 year old "teenagers" causing drunken chaos and taking relationships way too seriously while the handful of adults laugh and egg them on. Which isn't accurate or terribly interesting in the context of a story. But I'm sure it was nostalgic as shit for the 40 year olds of 1978, and it is a fun, good movie, so long as you don't attempt to take it as seriously as it seems to hope it is taken.
I don't want to say it is overrated because I understand why people like it. But I also don't know if it will remain a beloved movie musical for much longer. If you aren't a Boomer or Boomer-adjacent, you probably won't be drawn to the nostalgia or style it relies on to sell itself. Because the story and pacing would need a serious overhaul to do justice to the songs. If you aren't into the pretend 50s or 70s movies, there just isn't much here.
Oh and the opening animation is crap. I realize the standards for most Western animation in 1978 were generally lazier and slap-dash, and there is a dated charm to this. But this is the opening of your movie, guys. The song is fire. But look at this stupid shit:

The Phantom Martian: Chapter 14
Aka, the chapter of the pen15 club.
This fic is a crossover between Danny Phantom x The Martian. I've been reading nothing but sci fi for the past year and this is the outcome. What do u mean i have a problem no i can stop whenever i want
Chapter WC: 6690
Fic Tags: Danny Fenton & Mark Watney, Canon Divergence, Ecton AU
Chapter excerpt under the cut
xxxx
“Danny, kid, just. Just do me a favor.”
Danny peeked out of one eye. “Huh?”
“Your doctor friends are…yetis? Giant white furry yetis?”
“Yeah?”
“Mm. Okay. So alien yetis.”
“Ghosts,” Danny corrected for perhaps the hundredth time.
“There were never any yetis on Earth. Ergo, aliens from another dimension.”
Danny was silent for a moment. Then, he said slowly, his eyes cracking open in slits, “Mark, I will break your music thumb drive.”
“Not my precious disco!”
“Try me.”

Rewire, day 2
This day didn’t start as planned. In the afternoon, I saw a migraine attack coming and so I drank some water and laid down. This meant I was going to drop acts in favour of recovering, meaning I was missing Malibu, which was rather unfortunate, because I looked forward to see her live. Regardless, that’s the price of the sickness. So, unwilling to give up on the day I tried to sleep and after a few hours ate something before setting out. My head was still hurting, but I didn’t plan to stay long and had my eyes on some calm acts anyway.
I started with Morita Vargas, who wasn’t bad, but also felt she was and would still be developing her craft further. Her final last track was her best, the weaving of her vocals with the ethereal music worked well. It was a little Julee Cruise-esque.
Then, I had the choice to stay and see Godspeed You! Black Emperor, but I have already been fortunate to see a 3-hour set once and there’s so much more hear. So I went to Nwando Ebizie. She was anything but calm, but she was also a lot of fun. Having recently visited the Black Fantastic exhibition, I imagine she would fit right in. A vibrant singer with humor, sharing the popped corn with the audience to receive as a blessing and ending with a group dance in the middle of the crowd of whoever wanted to join.
Next were Infinity Knives & Brian Ennals. They fit right in with Run the Jewels when it comes to politics, but seemed to focus more on beats. Infinity Knives got to do some live messing around with electronics and Ennals in the meantime was just a menace on the mic, undermining religion, politics and whatever he didn’t like. Singing ‘All we want is some reparations’ to the tune of RHCP’s Californication (Death of a Constable), ‘Realize the American flag same colour as cop lights’ (Sambo’s Last Words) and ‘God is good, pussy is better’, finishing with A Melancholy Boogie and its disco-revival beat. Standing in the back was the right decision. The message reached me, the loudness not so much.
Following them, I went to Lucinda Chua in one of the churches. This location is beautiful and her music fit right in. She performed while Godspeed were still playing, so the place wasn't full, but that also meant that everyone who wanted to be there was there and it created a bond. The only sound the audience made was applause when songs ended. She sang, played the cello, while she was supported by an unnamed synthesizer player. For the last song she was also joined by Hatis Noit on the stage, making me regret a little to not have seen her, but alas choices and choices.
Then out again and off to Alto Arc. That was absolutely insane. This is a project consisting of a singer George Clarke (Deafhaven), a make-up artist Isamaya Ffrench and 2 producers. One is Trayer Tryon (Hundred Water), the other Danny L Harle, who has been making waves for a while now (collaborating with yeule and this On a Mountain remix lives rent-free in my mind).
Anyway, the show had a lot of theatrics with a lot of hard beats. Sound wise it reminded me of those darkwave-esque acts like Witch of the Vale, where the woman takes the high-pitched role and the man does the dusky growling. (I guess old CoF also works?) The electronic stuff reminded me a bit of Violet Cold and its crazy patterns. At some point Darle got the stage to himself and it seemed the room became a sonic witness account of a chain collision of crashed cars. As what we got to see, some sort of play about sacrifice, occultism and rapture? I’m not sure, sorry.
After that I took a breather and walked to Deena Abdelwahed’s venue. Now I mentioned scheduling conflicts before, here’s another: choosing Deena meant no Slikback and no Coucou Chloe (who were on at the same time at the same venue, so switching would be easier). However, I’ve been a big fan of Deena for years and getting the opportunity to see her live outweighed the others.
She was going to premier her new latest work and it didn’t disappoint. Her set was amazing and with help from her partner-in-crime Hamid, who occasionally picked up something like a sitar, they got the crowd moving. So yeah, by the sounds of it, there’ll be a great album coming to you… next year.
After that, I was done, it felt like I asked more than I could from my head. Yet the day after, here I am writing. Honestly, I’m amazed I saw as much as I did, but my head seemed to deal with it. Sometimes the pain just subsided (read: was drowned out by the music, it had no place to go). In the meantime I saw and spoke familiar and unfamiliar people, which sort of kept me busy. And being outside a lot helped too, the evening wasn’t cold, but it kept my head in check.

#5: The Blue Nile - Tinseltown In The Rain 12"
youtube
Released - 20th August 1984
Highest UK Chart Position- #87
First Heard - late 80s radio 1
It takes guts to admit it, but I was a child sophisti-pop fan, with Deacon Blue, Danny Wilson and Hue + Cry being just some of the luminaries that I followed as an extremely young fogey. The Blue Nile fit into this picture too and yet somehow they don’t. While I still have a residual fondness for those bands, I cannot honestly say that I don’t think The Blue Nile aren’t better -  I do and they are. But there’s a whiff of that shiny suit with rolled up sleeves aesthetic in their music that places them within that range, and the fact that they were Scottish - always a necessity for some reason - also feels pertinent to this debate.
HOWEVER, Tinseltown In The Rain might be said to transcend the genre entirely. In fact, bearing in mind its extended running time, instrumental funk breakdown and percussive strings, it feels more like an especially melodramatic disco 12” than anything very likely to be played in a wine bar (I invariably associate sophisti-pop with yuppies and wine bars, I refuse to believe it was played anywhere else). I guess that Paul Buchanan’s voice has a suave, tasteful edge to it, but I can’t really say that’s a bad thing: he gives an extraordinary performance here, full of desperate romance and fierce emotion.
In addition to this (you want more?!), Tinseltown features perhaps the greatest on-record declaration of all time, as Buchanan yells again and again, “Do I love you? YES I LOVE YOU!!”, with a level of joy and conviction that has often reduced me to a large puddle. It’s a great musical moment too, as the sawing strings build tension before drawing out Into something more panoramic as the full arrangement sweeps back in. I guess you might call it…sophisticated? Hell, maybe I am still a sophisti-pop fan after all, I’m sure I can live it down.

The start of 'Idol Lee Chae Yeon' instead of 'Dancer'. - Lee Chae Yeon, debut album HUSHRUSH
Lee Chae Yeon, who appeared in "Street Woman Fighter" (hereafter referred to as Soupa), will be the latest IZ*ONE member to debut. It's been 1 year and 5 months since IZ*ONE finished their activities, and it's been about a year since Supa ended. It is Lee Chae Yeon's debut that fits the word 'finally'. In fact, you can see that they made their re-debut in advance through Soupa. However, it failed to bring her attention and topicality, and because she was an idol, it had the opposite effect of highlighting the lack of performance. With this kind of appearance, even the crew (Want) that she belonged to in her broadcast could not show a decent charm, and at the same time, she could not show her confidence in the audition program. Rather than competing and performing, she had a strong feeling that she grew through the dancers she met through the program. In hindsight, for Lee Chae Yeon, Soupa's appearance was more of a poison than an advantage. The biggest poison is that the debut was delayed. Due to her program recording and activities, IZ*ONE has released the latest debut album among the IZ*ONE members who declared their artist activities. The gap of about 1.5 years is hard to fill even if you are from IZ*ONE. The popularity of audition programs is not limitless.
Anyway, the sad past is the past. Now that I'm back with 'Idol Lee Chae Yeon', I just need to focus on that image. Before looking at the musical concept of this time, if you know that Lee Chae Yeon's agency is WM Entertainment, which B1A4 and OHMYGIRL belong to, and listen to the music, it will be easier to understand the unique atmosphere. Considering the atmosphere of OHMYGIRL, which is also a girl group, it can be seen that the main style of music is lively (<a little fluttering>) and sometimes calm style (<RealLove>). Lee Chae Yeon's debut album does not stray too far from WM Entertainment's style. If you listen to the title song 'HUSHRUSH', you will hear a style that gives 'fresh freedom' along with 'bouncy atmosphere', and you can discover WM Entertainment's style here. Ryan John, who composed <DunDunDance> and <Dolphin>, participated in composing and arranging the song, so it's only natural that the above atmosphere would come out. I put a spoonful of DemJointz style in here. I'm used to the signature sound Incoming! that you hear when the song starts, the modulation in the chorus, and the sudden omen in the bridge, but it creates a different style. It can be said that the lyrics and music are monotonous, but on the contrary, they gave Lee Chae Yeon a song that is easy to dance to.
If <HUSHRUSH> focused on performance, <Danny> is the song that matches Lee Chae Yeon's vocal tone. Like the title song, this song was composed by Ryan John, and JeppeLondonBilsby, who collaborated with OHMYGIRL, also participated. For that reason, the atmosphere is similar to "DearYou" and "Swan" recorded in "DearOHMYGIRL".
Since this song is essentially a synth pop song, it is important for the vocals to have a cool voice, but Lee Chae Yeon's vocals were perfect for playing such a cool role. It's the same retro track, but borrowing a disco style, <SameButDifferent> lets you hear low vocals. Compared to <Danny>, the synthpop style sounds much more like Lee Chaeyoung's tone. Conversely, the musical structure of <SameButDifferent> was abrupt and interesting, so I liked this song structurally. This album can be seen as an album that showed Lee Chae Yeon, who made her debut again, the direction of WM entertainment style. And the musical style and Lee Chaeyoung's vocals show a good compatibility. However, it is also true that groups such as Seulgi(RV), (G)I-DLE, LE SSERAFIM, Dreamcatcher, etc., who were popular with the general public during their debut period, or who are cult-famous groups have come back and lost attention. Kwon Eunbi, who is also a fellow IZ*ONE, even made a comeback on the day she debuted. Luckily, the sales volume of the first album exceeded 30,000 copies, and the fact that they made a unique album that matches the concept.

BREEZIN GEORGE BENSON YOUTUBE CRACK
Listen to I Hear You Knocking or Memphis, Tennessee to hear a jazzman’s take on the fathers of rock. Here, George returns to his early influences with versions of Fats Domino, Chuck Berry and others. Produced by Quincy Jones, Give Me the Night won three Grammys and dropped another hit with its title track that scored in discos worldwide.īenson sailed on to great heights before things wound down a bit in the 21st century, His tribute to Nat King Cole in 2013 was a natural fit for the crooner in him, but our final pick here is 2019’s Walking to New Orleans. This Masquerade, composed by Bobby Womack and Leon Russell, brings Benson’s vocals upfront, helping to push the LP to triple platinum and a Grammy nomination for album of the year. He rolls out cool melodies and fast, fluent licks with a bright and clear sound. With Breezin’, George Benson hits his instrumental stride. With the aid of producer Creed Taylor and an orchestra in the tradition of Montgomery, George spins on the Fab Four alongside the likes of Herbie Hancock, Bob James, Ron Carter, Freddie Hubbard and Ray Barretto. Check out the take of Donny Hathaway and Gene McDaniels’ evocative When Love Has Grown.Ī few years after Wes Montgomery’s A Day in the Life, Benson followed with his own interpretation of The Beatles songbook. The title track says it all, a physical romp showing off Benson’s soul-jazz stylings in a funky setting with an all-star backup band, including the introduction of Earl Klugh on second guitar. By 1973, Body Talk shone the spotlight onto this still emerging talent in six lingering cuts. George Benson began his recording career in 1964. But if you’re looking for an entry into his repertoire, these are five fine examples of Benson’s exemplary ability to cultivate crossover appeal while still honouring the spirit of jazz. With a career as vast and deep as George Benson’s, narrowing it down to five essential recordings is just scratching the surface. Word of this virtuosity spread, and soon he was offered the chance to record. Benson’s own path to fame involved gruelling nights on the road away from his hometown of Pittsburgh. This chestnut almost ran the brilliant career of guitarist and vocalist George Benson into the ground once the backlash of all. Each took their blues-infused jazz to sophisticated new heights. There’s a direct line from Charlie Christian through Wes Montgomery to George Benson. Pictures from his youth show George Benson holding the instrument like a lad who was born to play. It was then that two love affairs were born: Tom Collier became George’s stepfather and first musical mentor, and young George Benson fell hard for the guitar. Originally recorded by singer-songwriter Leon Russell, This Masquerade comes from George Benson’s 1976 album Breezin’, which was a major critical and commercial success for the guitarist.Benson’s firs ever single, the song would eventually reach as high as No. As soon as the man left the room, George ran to the instrument. One day, a man came calling and told George not to touch the guitar he’d brought to serenade the boy’s mother. Growing up with a single mother, the young George knew he loved music but couldn’t warm up to the old piano in their living room. Looking back to his earliest days, Benson seemed destined for greatness as a child prodigy. George Benson first made it to the top of the pops in the 1970s, scoring multiplatinum with his smooth singing and superb musicianship. By Danny Marks George Benson Austin Hargrave These five albums show his exemplary ability to cultivate crossover appeal while still honouring the spirit of jazz. In the greater scheme of Benson's career, Breezin' is really not so much a breakthrough as it is a transition album the guitar is still the core of his identity.George Benson was born to play the guitar. The attractive title track also became a minor hit single, although Gabor Szabo's 1971 recording with composer Bobby Womack is even more fetching. Yet it is the sole vocal track (his first in many years), Leon Russell's "This Masquerade" - where George unveiled his new trademark, scatting along with a single-string guitar solo - that reached number ten on the pop singles chart and drove the album all the way to number one on the pop (!) LP chart.
BREEZIN GEORGE BENSON YOUTUBE CRACK
Most of Breezin' is a softer-focused variation of Benson's R&B/jazz-flavored CTI work, his guitar as assured and fluid as ever with Claus Ogerman providing the suave orchestral backdrops and his crack then-working band (including Ronnie Foster on keyboards and sparkplug Phil Upchurch on rhythm guitar) pumping up the funk element. All of a sudden, George Benson became a pop superstar with this album, thanks to its least representative track.
