another rant on a toxic user and fic writer in the COD fandom world — scroll past if you don't care
trigger warning: mentions of rape, incest, and abuse
First, the tumblr user lululandd began bombarding my inbox, calling me names in their vague posts— all because I said that I wished people were more respectful in what type of content they add when they reblog my posts. They'll have full blown convos about unrelated material under my gifs, while ignoring my gifs entirely or ignoring me. It's a pattern of disregarding the labor of creatives on this website. This happens to gif-makers and I'm sure fic writers too.
I told them it's not too much to ask people to be respectful while also asking them to reblog rather than simply like things. I obviously can't control other people's behavior. But I consider that this is part of basic tumblr etiquette for years now.
Nonetheless, her unwavering defense is that this is the internet and people can do whatever they want and people can add whatever they want (Hold onto this thought)—even if it means personally making people uncomfortable or purposefully triggering them, even out of deliberate spite in some cases...
Anyway, the bottom line is, lululandd has a track record of attacking gifmakers in the COD fandom who don't like rape/incest/abusive fanfics either. Which makes sense, considering she writes and shares this content too. She's probably targeted my blog, seeing a window of opportunity, simply because I've vocally stated that I am not a fan of rape/incest/abusive fanfics. Obviously I can't stop people from reblogging or writing/reading those fics! But other people on tumblr and I have asked that people tag their work correctly, hide it under read more/cuts, and also maybe reconsider posting it in mainstream fanfiction tags if it's particularly dark work.
This is from their pinned bio:
Tumblr media
And this is a message she's posted to someone a few months back for simply stating they don't like seeing their favorite characters portrayed as toxic, abusive, and/or sexually aggressive bordering on sexual assault. (Headcanoning someone as a rapist/abuser isn't the same as headcanoning someone as being goofy or weird, for the record):
Tumblr media
She blocked that user right after writing that.
TLDR: lululandd has a grudge against me and other gifmakers whom she's blocked simply because we don't put aside our personal dislike for rape/incest/abuse and worship her and others' writing. So, she takes it out on us by stating we're 'suburban christian moms' and saying that we simply want to control what other people do. That's not the case. I don't support censorship (can't believe I have to say that, lol) but I can still actively dislike certain genres of dark writing where there is a non-critical depiction of rape or abuse. But this user sees this as a personal attack, and thinks it justifies sending hate messages and writing vague posts about me and my other mutuals.
Also: fun fact! Someone replied to lululandd's post where they were vague-posting about me, name-calling me and calling me a "suburban Christian mom" (girl I'm a bi Latina who lives in urban downtown parts of cities primarily, but yeah I was raised Catholic, so what? What does religion have anything to do with how people interact with my blog?) And someone simply said that I wasn't asking for too much. I said, "thanks! that's common sense!"
Tumblr media
Then lululandd proceeded to turn off replies and to delete my reply saying "thanks!" — BUT I THOUGHT WE COULD POST ABOUT ANYTHING AND ADD ANYTHING TO PEOPLE'S POSTS ON THE INTERNET?!? 🤯
Anyway, I've blocked lululandd and I encourage others to do the same if you dislike people thinking you're obligated to read triggering content and sending hate messages to people's inboxes. But then again, you don't have to because, ✨people can do whatever they want on the internet! ✨

I hope this doesn't come across as rudeor accusatory because that's not what I'm intending. I just don't understand.
How would letting us choose for Opal to wear a hijab be giving the player too much control over the world? There wouldn't have to be any mention of religion. Not even throw away lines about it.
Christians and Jewish people and atheists all get to view her as a member of their faith or as having no religion, but Muslims can't. it just feels kinda like being snubbed, like we're prevented from having the same level of connection that other people get.
All it would be is an optional haircut basically. I mean it would be nice to be able to have minor references to a picked religion but I completely understand why there won't be and how it wouldn't really fit in with the game. But just that one piece of artwork of a hijab or shayla would give us the option of seeing her the same way most other religious people can.
The only way it would make sense to me as having too much control is if she had a canon religion/lack of religion. Otherwise it just feels kinda bad to be unable to relate to the mom in the same way so many other people can.
It’s not rude, people can disagree with the things I decide to do with the game. And I’m sorry my response was disappointing.
For all intents and purposes Opal is irreligious. Nothing in the game will denote a specific belief. The MC has tons of choices, so it's easy to make them do things that follow certain religions, but for Opal there's no illusions of that. So while some people can still headcanon her as loosely or more casually religious, depending on the religion, that’s something out of my control rather than something I’ve made part of the game. Adding a hijab option is making your mom’s religion a choice. That’s an important distinction.
To try to better explain why that makes things different, I’ll pose the question; what are most players really gonna think if we add in the option to have a hijab and call it a day? Most won’t have seen this conversation or understand any backstory/context for the choice, it’ll be merely another feature. This is what I imagine the reaction will be-
There will be those who never wanted or expected to be able to control their mother’s religion thinking that it’s breaking with the premise of the MC just being a normal person in the world because they somehow can control their mother's beliefs, they’ll be those who would want to canonize their mom’s religion as something else feeling totally left out because the only one that can be noted is Muslim and she has no shown religion otherwise, and then there will be Muslim players who see the feature and initially think it’s nice and use it to then only have the dismissive experience of the game putting a hijab on the mom and doing nothing else to have her be a practicing Muslim. For a majority of players, I believe it will hurt the experience and our company will have released something that flat out did a poor job in creating a quality, cohesive addition to the game.
Where I'm coming from as a developer is that it’s not about going for 1% because that’s at least more than 0%; it’s about having something that isn’t an element in an experience vs. it being a factor. 0 to 1 is tiny, that's true, but non-existence being changed to an actual part of the project is something that has a major impact on what you've created. Once something is a feature, it’s a feature and you have to do it right. If you can’t do it right then you don’t add that feature, and OL: N&F just can’t do customizing the religion of an NPC right. Because it’s not how the game choices were intended to function on a design level and because it’d be a huge amount of work to have Opal properly follow every religion anyone might want her to have, which is the only way I'd be comfortable having that be an acknowledged and customizable element of her character.
However, none of that means you’re wrong in wanting it or if your stance remains that a little is better than nothing. This is all just my reasoning for not making it a feature. If you decide you don’t want to play because the lack of that feature means you can’t relate to the parental figure, I don’t blame you and I'm sorry it worked out like this.

FOR THAT ONE GIMMIE A CHARACTER MEME. THROWS CHRISTIAN AT YOU WITH: 🏳️‍🌈- Orientation headcanon (I MEAN WE KNOW BUT LIKES TO HEAR YOU GO ON ABOUT IT!!!!!) ❤️‍🩹- Angsty headcanon 💖- Happy headcanon 😋- Funny/stupid headcanon 🪞- Appearance headcanon 🏡- Domestic headcanon
🏳️‍🌈- Orientation headcanon
honestly i think even if he hadn't been traumatised, he was probably never going to be a particularly sexually-motivated person. i think he wasn't given much opportunity to really consider what he wanted or how he felt about sex/romance given the way he was raised; it was very "you're going to marry a woman and raise children regardless of how you feel about it" (and it's likely he would have been matched to someone of similar or higher status, too, rather than finding someone he actually loved). even if The Bad Thing TM hadn't happened, he was probably always going to have some issues surrounding figuring out what he wants/likes and whether or not it's okay to go after it (and this applies no matter how his orientation had played out; i think it's entirely possible he could have been attracted to women in time if he hadn't been traumatised, but it's also entirely possible that he was always going to only be attracted to men. sexuality is weird and these are fictional characters)
❤️‍🩹- Angsty headcanon
there is no world in which keith outlives him. this makes me very sad. it also makes me think about the fact that there are definitely ways for them to extend keith's lifespan through vampirism or otherworld magics, but the likelihood of either of them being okay with that is… very low. keith doesn't want to live forever. weirdly, he doesn't have much of a problem with the idea of vampirism other than that; he's known christian too long to consider vampirism inherently monstrous. he has way more of a problem with something like otherworld magic affecting his lifespan, because he doesn't want that place touching him.
that said: an AU where christian turns keith would also be fucking excruciating because you KNOW that a) keith wouldn't trust any of the other vampires to do it, especially knowing that there's the potential for a spawn/sire bond, and b) christian has sire trauma and would NOT want to sire a fledgling, especially not keith, especially when he has no idea what will happen because vampires are so variable. rip.
💖- Happy headcanon
he has more friends right now than he's had in the past 400 years and it's DISGUSTING but he is happier than he's ever been. he does not know what to do with that feeling. sometimes he looks at keith+co when they're all passed out in the livingroom together and has to just [standing guy emoji] while he processes the deep friendship feelings he'd experiencing. same with louis+lestat when they're all just hanging out being domestic together.
😋- Funny/stupid headcanon
he has teleported into the wrong place at the wrong time and absolutely BOWLED keith over by accident. keith had a panic attack but he was also laughing the entire time, it was very silly. in general the two of them being able to laugh over startling/uncomfortable situations like that is DISGUSTING but also very much proof of how close they've become (keith no longer tries to hide the fact that he just jumped out of his skin, and as a result it's way easier to laugh it off, for example)
🪞- Appearance headcanon
this man never wears jewellery. it's never really interested him either for the aesthetic or for the status symbol of it all; he likes to be relatively non-descript so he can blend in with other people, though he's always kind of going to stand out as "look at this red-haired dead-looking academic" when he isn't at work.
🏡- Domestic headcanon
he has specific Chore Days (TM) (probably on the weekends/sundays) where he just gives everything a good dusting + cleaning. he COULD hire someone to do it for him the way he hires housekeepers for the manor, but it makes him feel human when he and keith+co are all hanging out and doign chores around the house together. repulsive.

Hello there, I am the one who requested the Jeremiah Cloutier headcanons. I just wanted to thank you so, so much for taking the time to make such a long, lovingly written post! As a Christian who is also bi, with a complicated relationship with gender, I really appreciate the even handedness and delicacy of your writing. I like that the reader, while they felt unwelcome in the church, was still curious, reverent and sought out answers. And I really liked how in character Jeremiah was, too. Passionate about God, understanding and gentle, but still struggling with his thoughts and feelings, as he would do. I love that he went to visit Ray for advice, as I seriously wish they had longer to interact in canon. The rainbow winged Angel analogy was absolutely gorgeous, and relatable as my childhood was dotted with stained glass. Last, but certainly not least, the little details of the relationship and Jeremiah’s little quirks are completely precious. He absolutely would be a loud gum chewer! A great exploration of a sadly under-explored character. I hope it was not in any way painful for you to write, as you mentioned your relationship with the church in your notes, for which I am sorry. I know that difficult feeling. I thank you once again for the time and care you took. I shall certainly request again some time, if you enjoy it and are happy to indulge me. Have a terrific week and God bless!
Awwwwwww you’re so sweet!!🥹❤️ I’m glad it was received in the spirit with which it was intended! My goal is never to bash anyone’s religion, but I have had my own rocky path with my family’s church. It wasn’t painful to write though; it actually made me reflect. It’s weird being gay and gender non conforming in the Bible Belt. But I remember I was allowed and even encouraged to watch Veggie Tales as a kid. My favorite was A Snoodle’s Tale. Where people draw mean pictures of the Snoodle, and he carries them in his backpack and it gets heavier and heavier with time. Then he goes into a cave and you never see who he’s taking to, but it’s supposed to represent God. He draws the Snoodle a picture of himself looking strong and courageous. He takes the other pictures out of the bag and adds his… and it’s lighter than air. I’ve never felt so close to God till that episode. I’ve always liked how Veggie Tales portrayed him. I also know what it’s like to try to have a relationship with the church while you’re gay or gender non conforming. It can be difficult to love thy neighbor when thy neighbor has contempt for you. That’s why I liked Cloutier’s arc. He learned not to be so judgmental of people when the people are genuinely trying. Hence his relationship with Mukada. They both have major differences in their spiritualities but they put that aside to love God together. And I think that’s beautiful.
Also about the gum chewing; i just felt like it was right, y’know?😂

Analyzing the characters/collecting character traits of each Link in this series, Part 1 out of hopefully not 1
Hyrule Fantasy/Adventure of Link
The timeline right now claims those are two different Links, but let’s be real, no they’re not. Anyways; The og lad! Not much to pick from, so most will have to come from implications and official art.
In Zelda 1, we already have two of the main character traits that would appear in every Link ever; courage and helpfulness. Pal saw an old lady ask him for help and went off right after.
Without a sword no less, and you can actually play through the entire game without it right up until the endboss. That’s…incredibly reckless, but also shows that Link is a very fast learner.
Using a ladder of all things yo cross paths is imo another point for recklessness, but shows he can think outside the box.
He generally seems to like taking risks, be it for the adventure or gambling his rupees at an old mans house.
Also the og arsonist, but polite enough that he always pays the door costs back, unlike some other criminals that come after him. Therefore, honest too.
Either incredibly observant or loves to experiment, given that it’s nearly impossible to find a good chunk of both secret and game relevant doors in zelda 1 without the manual on hand or getting very getting lucky.
A musician! He plays the recorder. Unlike what everyone thinks, it is in fact a proper instrument that needs skill to actually sound good.
If you headcanon Zelda 1’s "shooting arrows costs rupees” mechanic as him using rupees as makeshift arrowheads like I do, he’s also quite the crafter; plus, it adds to him being very intuitive.
Both a fast learner and loves to learn, given all the magic and sword skills you can learn from mentors in AoL.
Zelda 2 generally emphasizes traits already alluded to in Zelda 1.
Based on promo art, quite the facially expressive lad! He also likes to ponder. And point at things.
The addition of Christian Symbols in promo material was to my knowledge done as a marketing tactic to bait USians similar to NOA’s angry boxart Kirby, but the promo art of him praying exists in any way, so apparently he’s religious. (…maybe don’t use that as a reason to go after non-Christian people in the fandom though, thank you very much.)
Befriends monsters in both games, showing he has no ill will towards them as a whole, even when actively chased.
Likes to gather information that could help him, and even actively asks for it- the "Sorry, I know nothing” line of some npcs implie he asks them if they, well, know anything that could help. Plus a lot of other npc dialogue is tips for what you gotta do, unlike the general contextless flavor text known of npcs.
Townspeople love him so either he’s got a Hero bonus from Zelda 1 or just good charisma lol. People only start calling him a hero when he helps them in this game and the ending of zelda 2’s a thing so it might even be the second one
Has quite the mischievous side, annoying a resting person in Zelda 2 until they yell at him lmao
And that’s all I could find/come up with! A surprising lot already for such little to work with!
So, what we have here is already a brave and helpful lad, who is a very intuitive thinker, often stepping outside the box to achieve his goal with a quick and analytical mind that not only aids in problem solving but his vast magic skills too, though it gets a bit diminished as in his rush to help he ends up being incredibly reckless too. Luckily, he makes up for complications with his love of learning, as well as politeness in cleaning up after trouble he caused with his more destructive actions. And unlike some of his other incarnations also honest about it.
That’s how I interpreted all that anyways, extra stuff (or maybe yelling at me cuz you think it’s all ooc) are very appreciated!

im curious why people are saying supernatural is jewish like idk if jewish writers makes an inherently jewish story especially when things like following out the christian apocalypse from revelations and showing a real physical g-d who is just some guy i think is super jarring since though christians claim to be against idolatry they seem totally fine showing depictions of gd or whatever i dont get jesus honestly but jews are far more strict and the idea of showing gds appearance is pretty wrong
WOOF okay um. Maybe this is one of those Tone Doesn’t Come Thru Well Online things but to me this is soo fucking rude… I’m half way between John Mulaney we don't have time to unpack all of that & Ben Wyatt wait it’s gonna bother me if I don’t explain why you’re wrong.
This turned into all my thoughts.
So like. First off, it’s all fun and games. We’re all just joking and joshing and projecting here on destiel dot tumblr dot com and Jupernatural is not an exception in a lot of ways. And so when someone shits on what we’re doing here (yes, even unintentionally) what you get is what happened: oh you think you’re funny well I’m about to be hilarious!!! aka I’m gonna do it even more now out of spite specifically because you said not to. Like it really is all jokes but also you know what’s not a joke? Antisemitism in all its forms, even the casual shit! It’s really draining and it builds up in your veins!! Just. Yeah. You saw a lot of people talking about it today in particular because much like other topics of the day, one thing kicks off a whole other turn of events. So like. one misguided comment that’s playfully antisemitic and then one more little one, and then one big/obvious one launched us (Jewish spn fans) into a whole bigger discussion about antisemitism and erasure of Jews in the spn fandom writ large. It’s one thing to be descriptive, offer a headcanon/what if, or employ a certain mode of analysis. It’s another thing to definitively say This Is The Truth, specifically when to do so overrides something else, especially in this case when what’s being overridden is Jews, an ethnoreligious minority. It’s also another thing to talk over Jews. And mind this has been building for days. Not in a bad way just like, it’s been topical for days and then today one big thing pushed it over the edge to us actually posting abt it (partially bc at that point it’s a pattern, which feels like it needs to be addressed). Like, destiel tumblr is small we pretty much all see all the same posts, and then Jewish spn fans… we’re friends, we chat about life? We joke around together, y’know? If you’re being antisemitic (yes, even unintentionally) we’re all gonna hear abt it. It’s how we stay safe or in this case, curate the online exp.
That being said tho projecting on fiction is like fun and even a good thing at times, and def opens up new modes of analysis. But! the other big thing here is that there IS a LOT of evidence for a Jewish reading of spn, in a lot of ways, and particularly if you know what to look for. Like there’s lots of niche Jewish slang (non-Jews just don’t know these things, and that is a reflection primarily of the writers but once you put it in the script it implies things about the characters too of course), the theology of the early seasons (I’ll get to that in a second), main character motivations (hold on), “Moishe Campbell” implying Mary is (and therefore Sam and Dean are) Jewish, etc.
It’s not surprising to me or anything that non-Jews don’t catch anything/everything Jewish about spn but that Jews catch both sides of it, because that’s just how being part of a marginalized group works. You learn about your own stuff AND the dominant culture’s stuff because that’s how you survive (socially, psychologically, literally). Members of the dominant culture don’t need to learn the marginalized one, are never confronted with it, and so they just.. don’t. I don’t even mean that in a normative or accusatory way, that’s just an observation on the state of things. Non-Jews who aren’t part of another marginalized religion, aka expressed xtians and cultural xtians, have a ton of misconceptions about Judaism, for example, “Jesus was Jewish” and not, “Jesus was an asshole of an apostate who made life harder for Jews at the time in a myriad of ways and whose movement has had a lasting negative impact on world Jewry (and other peoples) for the ensuing millenia”. I truly Don’t Have Time right now to get into the varied and intense history of antisemitism in all its forms but. the point I’m making here is that I’m not shocked I need to explain that life experience shapes your worldview?? So if you’re Jewish you’re always gonna be living life through that version of the world and it does impact you?? Same as anything else?? As unwell as they may be, spn writers aren’t exempt from that. Jewish people writing about xtianity are doing so thru a primarily Jewish understanding and vice versa. Jews can (and did!) write about xtian lore but in a Jewish way! Some core Jewish themes: wrestling with angels/G-d, questioning G-d, IF there’s a G-d they will have to beg MY forgiveness, the afterlife isn’t really a big thing so all that matters is your time on earth, make amends to others directly and thru your actions rather than seeking absolution with G-d, you are not obligated to complete the work nor may you abandon it, etc… So that’s the other reasoning why we say “spn is Jewish” based solely on it being written by Jews. Rather than Death of The Author, let’s look at what the author has imbued the story with, both intentionally and unintentionally. And re: Chuck and idolatry… I don’t even know where to start with the way you phrased this but. the Jewish Spn Writers of Note are apparently Kripke, Gamble, and Edlund. All of whom stopped writing for the show years before the Chuck Is God plot!
Like yes it feels very stupid to be writing a thousand words on antisemitism and supernatural but like. this is a spn blog run by a Jew so. This whole thing is also just the same every time. This is very representative of typical casual antisemitism.

What's something you'd hate to end up happening in Hazbin?
It took me a few days to think of something that I also, like, actually believe might plausibly happen in the show; and then I thought of several at once. None of these are "I'd detest it so much I'd refuse to keep watching!!!" but I'd definitely go "oh I wish they didn't do that."
- Right now, we know basically nothing about what gets someone damned to Hazbin's Hell: is it based on one specific Christian denomination's beliefs? If so, which one? Do you get judged by different rules if you went to a different denomination? Or are the rules gonna be made up for the show and not tied to any one particular denomination? What do they do with non-Christians? Etc. etc. Until we find out more, the thing I'm most worried about is how the system handles shades of gray. I think right now a majority of the fandom assumes that Hell is gonna operate on Les Miz legal rules. In other words, you're damned based on what you DO regardless of intentions/necessity—stealing food to save a life would get you just as damned as gleefully murdering people for fun.
And I wouldn't like to see that, personally. There are other recent works that have already played with the idea that being good enough to get into Heaven is an impossible standard, and Hell sucks because you can get stuck there just by being a regular person. There's good stories to be told in there, sure. Strong metaphors about over-punitive prison systems, etc.
But from what we've been promised so far, the story of Hazbin is about redemption. To keep the focus there, the characters need to have done things they need to be redeemed for! If the show goes "actually, it turns out most of these people don't need to be 'redeemed,' because they didn't really do anything wrong and it's unjust that they're in Hell at all," then the redemption theme we were promised is weakened.
Plus, it's easy to garner sympathy for a character in Hell who's been damned because she murdered an abusive husband, or a character who's been damned because he committed suicide due to depression. The plethora of headcanoned character histories and OC backstories with plot points like that attest to how the fandom's already using explanations like that to makes characters "bad enough" for Hell but not "too bad" to be considered likable. For me, considering the setting, that feels like chickening out. I'd prefer a story that says "actually, these characters REALLY ARE truly bad people, every single one of them—AND EVEN AT THAT, they should all be given a chance to redeem themselves." I've never seen a story say "eternal torture isn't ONLY too cruel for the people you like—it's also too cruel for the people you hate."
- As an extension of that, I'll be disappointed if there's an "Alastor only killed people he thought were bad!" big reveal in order to make him more sympathetic. MARGINALLY acceptable if the show goes out of its way to say "his standards for who deserves murder are fucked up and terrible," the same way IRL mission-oriented serial killers' standards are fucked up; but like, even at that, he does not give off antihero vigilante vibes. Although we HAVE seen he's willing to mangle people whose conduct he disapproves of, I'd prefer if it's taken in a "well I hate what you're doing and you're pissing me off" direction rather than a moral one.
I expect to be disappointed on this one lol. Not 100% expecting it, but over 50%. But until then I'm still headcanoning him as a thrill killer.
- I'd hate if they kill off Sir Pentious. Like not for highfalutin narrative reasons, I just like him lmao. I feel like most of the main cast has plot armor, but Sir Pent strikes me as hitting that sweet spot of "not important enough to be necessary for the whole series" and "beloved enough by the show runners" that they might decide they'd like to give him some big important moment... and that moment might get him exterminated. Maybe "he goes full antagonist and they have to eliminate him (to show how the stakes of the series are rising)," maybe "he gets erased by someone (like Vox maybe) to demonstrate how much more powerful & evil they are compared to Alastor," maybe "he's decided to reform and ends up sacrificing himself heroically to protect someone in the main cast he's befriended," idk, lots of options. I don't think they definitely will kill him, but I do think it's on the table.
(Alastor's the only other character I care a lot about that I think has a reasonable probability of being exterminated, BUT I don't think I'd hate it; I think Sir Pent's likely death would be the sort that makes me go "aw :(" but Alastor's would be the sort that makes me go "I'M CRYING BUT THAT WAS EPIC. WORTH IT.")

❝lucas koh❞
Tumblr media
lucas koh, 27, oxford, physiotherapist
lucas was drop dead gorgeous, and since the first time i saw him, it was over for me. his route was filled with so much thrill, emotion and intensity, i couldn’t skip on writing for him.
from villa injustices we should’ve get some apologies for, to the life he has outside of the show, i wanted to bring a full story for him.
and his characters is just so goddamn full of surprises all the time! he can be a posh boy, but still care about the important things like love, friendship, values that most of the boys and girls don’t even talk about.
problematic? yes. but that’s a major factor that makes him so interesting and intriguing, his arc and motivations change throughout the game, and that just goes to show how real and amazing he is! (yes, i’m a simp. nothing to do here!)
Tumblr media
‘if it wasn’t for you’ villa and pos-villa lucas’ perspectives, and yours, involving some of the most important happenings after ‘stick or switch’. it was important for the context to include these moments. after you win the first prize and leave the show,  the decision has been made. you’ll move in together, in his apartment. lucas will have several facets, and this story will explore his relationship with his parents, his past in uni, his life with you as a couple, and more.
title: lucas’ tale has had many titles already, and none of them really clicked! “posh”, “the right choice”, “power over me” and now this one, that i really think it will fit perfectly. it comes from a very specific passage in one of the chapters, but i can’t spoil it.

actually kinda curious on your thoughts on tadashi? cant really figure out what opinions youd have on him since rn hes opposing adam (well i mean everyones kind of opposing adam but you get the point), do you find tadashi interesting or just meh or? yeah curious because your thoughts are uh. Unique, to say the least (not in a totally negative way, ive just never seen anyone really dig into adam's motivations that well?)
Lol. “Unique,” yeah. I get that. I support Adam as a character and as a villain (but I totally expect karma to finally catch up to him in the end, and I won’t be sad when it does), but I’m not all that invested in the fandom ships. I don’t have a problem with any of them, but canonically, I don’t think any of them are anything more than good friends (or rivals, in the case of Eden). In general, I’m actually kinda irked by how people attribute romance everywhere, not just in Sk8, or even anime. xD
I’m guilty of it myself, and I do ship characters together all the time, but for me, it’s more as thought experiments than an actual belief in a romantic relationship. I’m very easily caught up in my obsessions and overanalyzing characters and getting into my personal theories/headcanons; Adam’s just the latest one on my radar.
So actually getting to your question (thank you for asking!), I’m not someone who will like or dislike characters simply based on their relationships with the characters I like. As such, I’m quite fascinated by Tadashi. He’s clearly someone who’s had an enormous influence on Adam, especially when it comes to skating. My speculation is that Tadashi was his first “love” in skating (again, non-romantically), but that Tadashi greatly disappointed or betrayed him in some way in that regard, which led Adam to his downward spiral. For example, maybe he held back in a race because Adam was his boss/his boss’ child and let Adam win, and that frustrated Adam (though I feel like it’s something more serious than that, but I don’t have enough information to formulate a more likely scenario). Or maybe that he told Adam’s father/aunts that Adam was still skating secretly after Adam was told to stop, and obeyed their commands to stop skating with Adam (so Adam needed to find a replacement, though that still seems kinda flimsy)? And that “betrayal” weighs heavily on both of them: it’s caused Adam to go on a rampage in search of “Eve,” and it’s given Tadashi such strong feelings of guilt that he’s been incapable of standing up to Adam for the longest time, even when Adam is calling him a dog or ordering him to take the fall for his perjury.
But I believe that Tadashi really cares about Adam, even though he’s technically opposing Adam at the moment. I don’t think it’s because he’s finally gotten fed up with Adam’s selfishness or has been holding back his resentment of his employer: it’s because he cares about Adam. Given the obvious Biblical allusion of Adam/Eve, his skating name of Snake is pretty symbolic, as well as his demand that if he wins, Adam will quit skating. The snake is the reason that Adam and Eve were cast out of the Garden of Eden, and that’s literally what Tadashi is trying to do to Adam. So obviously Adam is pissed, because Tadashi is trying to “betray” him a second time (according to my theory) and take away the one thing that he loves more than anything else (in my opinion).
But the reason that Adam and Eve are cast out of Eden is because they have eaten the Fruit of Knowledge and gained awareness of themselves. Specifically, that they have gained a sense of morality, the knowledge of “right and wrong.” (According to my knowledge of the Bible, but I’m not a Biblical scholar or even a Christian, so... take that with a grain of salt if I’m wrong.) I’m not sure how Tadashi intends to achieve that (except that it must involve Langa somehow, since Adam has finally found his “Eve,” which has led Tadashi to make his move now), but I think that’s his goal in challenging Adam at this point, to make him realize that what he’s doing is wrong (in skating, and in life). Right now, Adam is still in a state of “innocence,” despite all the terrible things that he does: I see him as a bit of an overgrown child/spoiled brat, a kid who will strictly obey the words of “God” (his father/aunts, except for when it comes to skating) and pull the wings off insects out of childish curiosity, malice, or boredom. So my opinion/theory is that Tadashi is trying to help/save him by offering him the “Fruit of Knowledge” (though again, no idea what this is or how it would be achieved) so that he can be free, not only when he’s skating, but in real life as well (which is something Adam himself acknowledges, when he has a smoke break while giving Reki a head start--that he doesn’t have as much freedom outside of skating), and begin to truly mature. Tadashi wants to take away the artificial paradise that Adam has created and release him into the real world, but without the chains that are currently binding him. In my opinion. xD
Even I’m wrong and he actually despises Adam with his entire being, I’d still think that he’s a really interesting character though, because I’d want to know what happened to change him from the attendant who clearly cared about Adam and shared his love of skating with Adam/inspired Adam’s own love of skating to someone who wants nothing more than to bring Adam down.

Ok it's Jewish Booker o'clock, I can no longer stop myself, let's do this!
Why Jewish Booker? Dude was born in Marseilles in 1770, which happens to be a FASCINATING time and place in Jewish history, and it adds ridiculous layers to his character (without excusing a damn thing). Alternately just because I think he’s neat :)
Jewish Booker headcanons that make me happy:
not to be all "real Jews do X" but Jews fuck with candles hard. Book of Nile thrives on old/modern analog/digital giggles. Booker lighting Shabbat candles, lighting yarzeit (memorial) candles for his wife and sons (sob), lighting a menorah, lighting candles just because he's feeling emotional even though it's not chag (a holiday) or a yarzeit and Nile thinks he's trying to be sexy but he's really just in his feelings. just like. so many candles.
maybe Booker was the person who punched Richard Spencer at Trump's inauguration, just bringing back that time somebody punched a famous neonazi in the street and said neonazi has all but stopped appearing in public after a few rounds of public punching
were the Old Guard in Charlottesville in 2017? how many times has Booker the Blond Jew infiltrated North American white nationalist / Klan type activities and then stolen their weapons and/or killed them? likewise there's plenty of horrifying white nationalist shit happening across Europe this century, how many Pim Fortuyn types has he been involved in taking down? (I Am Of Course Not Endorsing Violence TM ;) ;) )
SINGING. Mattias Schoenaerts sings in Away From the Madding Crowd but it's church shit, sigh, anyway he has a nice voice. a lot of Jewish prayer is sung/chanted (depending on when/where you are and the gender rules of the community you're in) and there’s been a lot of innovation to Jewish singing in Booker’s lifetime, and I just want Nile to overhear him singing to himself on Friday afternoons
Nile Freeman was four years old when The Prince of Egypt came out, she grew up on that shit, she would want to introduce her new family to that shit. Please join me in picturing Booker, Nicky, Joe, and Andy all shouting "that's not how it happened!!" throughout this beautiful nightmare of a movie with lovely animation and songs but where white people voice most of the Egyptian and Jewish characters, because Booker Nicky and Joe's religious texts all frame the Exodus story a little differently and Andy was probably there when it happened (except for how it didn't actually happen it's an important story but it's just a story pls just let me giggle about Andy being super old)
Read below the cut for sad Jewish Booker headcanons, French Jewish history (mostly sad), context on antisemitism (enraging/sad), and all the way to the very end for a himbo joke.
Jewish Booker headcanons, I made myself sad edition:
he is a forger. who was alive. in 1939. visas. VISAS. V I S A S. how many of us did he save? how many more could he have saved if he didn't sleep that night? how heavily does that weigh?
how do we think he BECAME a forger? most likely he was doing what he needed to do to support his family, which gets extra poignant if he was also trying to help his people, forging documents as well as money even during his mortal life
Booker raised Catholic by crypto-Jews adds ANOTHER layer to the forgery thing, no shit he'd get good at falsifying paperwork and coming up with plausible cover stories
do we know how Booker made it back home after his first death in 1812? his route between the Russian Empire and Provence in 1812 would've been a patchwork of laws about Jews, in case starvation and frostbite weren't enough for him to have to deal with, he's blond and could maybe get away with pretending not to be Jewish if he had to, alternately maybe synagogues and yeshivot took him in on his way home
the structural and sometimes-interpersonal dynamics of antisemitism cause many individual Jews to experience feelings of teetering on the fence between a valued member of a not-exclusively-Jewish community and a scapegoat/outcast/problem. HOLY SHIT BOOKER. "what do you know of all these years alone" is the most Jewish loneliness-in-a-crowd shit I've ever heard. fear that we're not wanted, or only wanted so long as we're useful — that's something that basically all people struggle with under capitalism, but it's especially poignant for many Jews because of the particular way antisemitism operates. (NOTE this can tip from a legit Jewish Booker reading to woobification of the sad white man who couldn't possibly be held responsible for his own actions because he's so sad, which, NOPE. it's very understandable for him to feel left out and misunderstood and not as wanted, as the youngest and not part of an immortal couple and maybe Jewish, but NONE OF THIS excuses his betrayal.)
Crusaders murdered a lot of Jews on their way to the ~holy land~. how many of Booker's people did Nicky kill on his way to kill Joe's people? has Booker ever actually talked to either of them about it?
I read this really beautiful fic about Joe needing to circumcise himself after getting run over by a cart (ouch) — this is a hell of a thing for Joe and Booker to have in common
just generally Jewish Booker adds more layers to him and Joe so clearly being such close friends, ugh that look Joe gives him when they're leaving the bar at the end of the movie, and I very much do not mean this in a gross Arab-Israeli-conflict way because Joe is Amazigh not Arab and Booker is Jewish not Israeli (and also a lot of Jews are Arabs) (but most importantly there's no ~eternal conflict~ between Muslims and Jews) (more about OP Is Not A Zionist below)
like, the UK and France (and to a certain extent Italy) carved up the former Ottoman Empire after WWI; among other things, the UK took Palestine, and they could've worked on eradicating European antisemitism so Jews wouldn't have to leave but instead they used their control of Palestine to encourage Zionist emigration of Jews out of Europe, and France took what is now Iraq, which has some pretty direct implications for US military involvement in that country in Nile's lifetime; France colonized Tunisia in the late 19th century and still held it during the Vichy era which means Tunisian Jews were subject to Nazi anti-Jewish laws which is just layers upon layers of colonial racist Islamophobic and antisemitic nightmares for Joe and Booker to live through
to be crystal clear before anybody gets ooh Muslim-Jewish conflict up in here, antisemitism is an invention of European Christians that they imported to the places they colonized, the European colonial powers encouraged Zionism because it was easier for them to encourage Jews to leave Europe and set us up as middle agents between the colonial powers and the ~scary brown people~, the Ottoman Empire and other Muslim governments historically have had a second-class citizenship category for non-Muslims that rankles my American first amendment freedom of religion sensibility but was very much not targeting Jews specifically, and these two men who've lived for a long-ass time through many varieties of geopolitical awfulness (and alongside a certain unwashed Crusader who has since learned his lesson) would have Things To Say about how our current mainstream discourses frame these things
getting off my soapbox and back to this action movie I'm trying to talk about, the ANGST of Booker's exile, which is simultaneously a very valid decision for Andy Joe and Nicky to make, an extremely long time for Nile who is only 26 years old to be separated from the one person on the planet in a position to really understand the crisis she's going through, and holy shit expelling a Jew from your group when he's already been expelled from mortality and his family and being expelled from places and continually having to start over somewhere new is THE curse of surviving through antisemitism, OUCH MY FEELINGS
Some French Jewish history:
France, like basically all of Europe, periodically expelled its Jews, but Provence (where Marseilles is) wasn't legally part of France during the expulsions up through 1398 so Provence had a continuous active Jewish community; about 3,000 Iberian Jewish refugees ended up in Provence after the expulsions from Spain and Portugal in the 1490s
the 1498 expulsion of French Jews DID apply to Provence but many "converted" to Christianity and reestablished a Jewish community when enforcement of the expulsion chilled out (which was in the government's interest because they were really into taxing Jews at higher rates, so much so that they taxed "new Christians" at higher rates once they realized expelling Jews meant they wouldn't be around to overtax, ffs) — by the mid-18th century Provence had notable communities of Jews and crypto-Jews (forced converts and their descendants who still kept some Jewish practices in secret)
Booker would've been 21 when revolutionary France granted equal legal rights to Jews in 1791 — his mortal life and first century of immortality happens to line up almost perfectly with the timeline of legal emancipation of Jews across Europe
the American and French Revolutions happened pretty much concurrently and took different approaches to religious freedom that make Book of Nile with Jewish Booker and canon Christian Nile extra interesting — French emancipation, at least from my American sensibility, is about secularism and religion not "interfering" (hence French Islamophobic shittiness about banning hijabs), whereas American religious freedom is more of "the government can't stop me from trying to evangelize / religiously harass people at my school/workplace/etc" — to be clear I think both countries' approaches to religious "freedom" are hegemonic as shit and have devastating flaws, but they're different models that emerged at the same time in Booker's youth and Christianity is clearly a source of emotional support for Nile and there's so much to explore here
Napoleon tried to ~liberate~ the Jews of places he conquered for his dumbass French Empire, but liberation from ghettos came with strings attached (like banning us from some of the only jobs we'd been legally allowed to have for centuries, and liberating us for the stated purpose of getting us to assimilate and stop being Jews) and many places that were briefly part of the French Empire reinstated their antisemitic laws after Napoleon was gone, can you imagine being a French Jew forced to fight and die in Russian winter for that jackass and then have to trudge back through a dozen countries whose antisemitism was all riled up by French interference?
Some facts about antisemitism:
antisemitism operates differently than many other oppressions, it doesn't economically oppress the target group in the same way as antiblackness or misogyny or ableism etc — the purpose of antisemitism is to create a scapegoat to blame when European peasants are mad at the king / the church / the people actually in charge, and structural antisemitism encourages a system where some Jews become visibly successful so that those individuals and our whole community are easier to make into scapegoats
one of the historical roots of antisemitism is stuff in the Christian Bible about moneylending as sinful — Jews in medieval Europe were often barred from owning land and Christians barred from moneylending, so some Jews found work in finance and some of us became very visibly successful for working with money — a few individual Jews running a particular bank or finding success as jewelry dealers turns into "Jews control global financial systems" scapegoating — a more recent example of this is the participation of nonblack Jews in white flight and the role of Jewish landlords doing the visible dirty work of non-Jewish institutions in American antiblack housing discrimination, Nile grew up on the South Side of Chicago and would have seen some shit along these lines and might repeat hurtful ideas out of a lack of knowledge, here's Ta Nahesi Coates on some of these dynamics
Booker canonically being a forger (specifically of coins in the comics?) needs a little extra care to avoid antisemitic tropes about Jews and money, I will happily answer good-faith asks about this if you want to check on something for a fic/etc
antisemitism in the United States where I live in October 2020 isn't institutional in the sense of targeting Jews for police violence or anything like that. it IS systemic, however, for example in all the antisemitic conspiracy theories the Trump administration and several other Republicans peddle (ie QAnon), and in how the Trump administration points to support for Israel as if that means support for Jews (it doesn't, it's evangelical Christians who push the US government to support the Israeli government because they think Jews need to be in the ~holy land~ for Jesus to come back that's literally why the United States funds Israel at the level it does). antisemitism also gets weaponized to encourage white Jews (those of us of European descent, who in the United States are definitely white because the foundation of US racism is slavery and antiblackness as well as anti-indigenous genocide, maybe European Jews aren't included in whiteness everywhere but we definitely are where I live) to side with white supremacy instead of building solidarity with other marginalized people (ie a lot of mainstream Jewish groups shit on the Movement for Black Lives because of its solidarity with Palestinians)
the Nation of Islam has a major presence in Chicago and its leader Louis Farrakhan who lives in Chicago has long spread a variety of antisemitic as well as homophobic bullshit but there are genuine good reasons many Black people find meaning/support in the Nation of Islam and Nile would've grown up with that mess in the air around her, this is a good take from a Black Jew about the nuance of all that
the way the Old Guard comics draw Yusuf al Kaysani is HOLY SHIT ANTISEMITISM BATMAN I hate it please summarize the comics for me because I DO NOT WANT to look at that unnecessarily caricatured nose why the fuck did they do that human noses are beautiful there is absolutely no need to draw Joe like a Nazi would
Jews for Racial and Economic Justice is a local NYC group that recently developed a fantastic resource for understanding and fighting antisemitism (pdf) 11/10 strongly recommend
Zionism disclaimer: A lot of Jews feel strongly that we need a Jewish-majority country in order to be safe from antisemitism. I strongly disagree with this idea on its merits (Jews disagree about who is a Jew and making Jewish status a government/immigration matter means some of us are going to get left out; also non-Jews aren't fundamentally dangerous and separatism isn't going to end antisemitism) but I have a lot of empathy for the very valid fear that leads a lot of my people to Zionism. Whether I want a Jewish-majority country or not, what Israel has done and continues to do to Palestinians is a deal breaker. Emotions run very high on this subject — I spend a lot of my not-Tumblr life talking to other Jews about Zionism and I'd rather not have this Jewish Booker headcanons post become yet another place where fellow Jews yell at me in bad faith. Block me if you need to, you're not going to change my mind. Call me self-hating if you want, I know I love us.
Racism in fandom disclaimer: I feel weird about increasing the volume of meta about Booker in this fandom. Nile Freeman is the main character and deserves lots of attention and adoration from the fandom — and she deserves emotional support from as many friends and orgasms from as many partners as she wants. I think Jewish Booker makes her friendship and potential romantic relationship with him even more interesting, hence this post. Ship what you ship, but be aware of the racist impact of focusing your fandom activity on, for example, shipping two white men while ignoring awesome characters of color especially the canon man of color one of those white dudes has already been with for a millennium. Please and thanks don't use my post for shenanigans like sidelining Joe so you can ship Booker with Nicky.
Oh and a non-disclaimer fun fact, Matthias Schoenaerts was born in Antwerp which apparently has one of the largest Jewish communities still remaining in Europe?? ~Jewish Booker headcanons intensify~
In conclusion: Jewish Booker! Just because it's fun! It exponentially increases the angst of his mortal lifetime and it puts his first century of immortality smack in the middle of the most intense changes to Jewish life since the fall of the Second Temple (aforementioned emancipation, also founding of Reform Judaism, the Haskalah, Zionism, and then of course the Holocaust). It makes his relationships with Nile, Joe, and Nicky more interesting and potentially angstier and with more intense commonalities and tenderness about their differences. It's very common for Jews to not believe in God (this confuses the shit out of a lot of Christians) and this would probably have further endeared him to Andy.
One more thing: Booker as golem. (A golem is basically an earthenware robot of Jewish folklore.) He's tall and blond and the most Steve Rogers-looking of all of them and from the Himbeaux region of France. THE trope of Book of Nile is he will do WHATEVER Nile wants or needs him to do. I was today years old when I learned that Modern Hebrew speakers use golem figuratively to mean "mindless lunk" and I'm choosing to squint and read that as "hot kind and dumb as rocks" because it amuses me.

“As a native Egyptian born into a predominantly Muslim culture, I have always been perplexed by the fact that the Israelite tales are heavily narrated (and most reverently) in the Qur’an. Actually the Israelite stories of the Patriarchs (Ibrahim, Youssef, Nooh, Is’haak, Dawud, and of course Moussa) have a strong influence on the everyday life of any Arab/Muslim. The Israelite tales are reiterated over and over again everywhere and every day in the Muslim world; in the mosques, in schools, universities and in mainstream media.”
*takes a deep breath* ok. This…is the thing I really don’t want to talk about. I apologize. Sincerely. But, no. I will not argue about the importance of these stories for Muslims. I have no right to touch that question. But this is going back to his earlier claim that the Qur’an has completely equal weight to the Torah in determining the original narrative. And he’s wrong. He goes on a couple paragraphs later to add this:
“As a matter of fact most if not all Muslims know of the Biblical stories from the Qu’ran and not from the Bible.”
This is the problem. I do not want to get into the complicated question of whether or not oral traditions can and do preserve factual narratives. There is evidence going both ways and is probably a topic that requires a huge amount of nuance and more than a couple caveats. But that is a part of the issue here so I need to point out that in order for the Qur’an to have recorded a narrative that is equal to the Torah in it’s historical reliability it must have remained unchanged, in oral form, through over a thousand years. Through contact with numerous empires including Assyria, Babylon, Egypt, and Rome. Through the rise of Christianity. Through the spread of Christianity. And then though another couple hundred years to the birth of Islam. As an unwritten, oral tradition, in an environment where non-biblical stories about the biblical characters were not unknown. There is no proof that the small scattered bits of biblical stories that exist in the Qur’an were introduced to Islam as anything other than through contact with Christians, who had their own non-Jewish opinions and headcanons about the biblical characters. Hell, Josephus, an educated Jew who predates the Qur’an has quite a few stories in his Antiquities of the Jews which are. not. biblical. But are elaborating on biblical events or about biblical characters.
It is an unfortunate fact that when you look carefully at the Qur’an as an ancient source text you must take into consideration it’s context of composition (the same as is done for the Bible). Muhammad had contact with Jews. And he most certainly had contact with Christians. By the time Muhammad was born Christianity was so wide-spread throughout the Roman empire, and much of the Persian empire, that it would have taken a miracle for him to have not encountered Christian retellings/explanations of the biblical stories through their various theological lenses. Many of the pieces I’ve managed to locate and read in the Qur’an sound more like bits of ancient sermons than actual biblical narratives. And not only that, they are not identical. There are minor but significant differences in the narratives between the Qur’an and the Torah. And those differences cannot be just brushed aside. Not when you’re trying to claim that one source is more accurate than the other. Not when you’re trying to say that the second text, compiled a good thousand years after the first, is equally factual.
I’m not denying that the Jewish/Christian stories in the Qur’an have theological and spiritual value. They do. But it needs to be acknowledged that those stories do not carry the same weight as the Hebrew-language Torah within an academic context when the question of historical fact is being considered. Not unless you’re specifically studying “Jewish/Christian narrative in the 6th-7th Century AD”. But for Bronze and Iron Age Israelite history? It is a very late text and therefore not given much (if any) weight. I’m not saying the Bible always meets the academic criteria either. It’s a theologically motivated text, so it frequently doesn’t. But there’s enough difference between the sources in their compositional context that this must be acknowledged. The stories in the Qur’an would likely not exist if there were not already people explaining (and adding commentary and elaboration to) the Hebrew stories. There are reasons why the narrative differences exist, and those also must be considered.

TELL ME ABOUT HOW YOU WRITE PICKLES AND CHARLES PLEASE ;0; what are you inspirations for their dynamic? you write them so in love and it makes me immensely happy
Thank you firstly, means a lot because writing them happy brings me so much joy-even if I probably wrote more angst than fluff of them at a point-jkfl
I have answered Pickles here so I’ll write about Charles and why I write them together with the way I do! :D
Charles
I feel like Charles has a lot more emotions/feelings than the show tries to give him credit for (I like to think that by season 4, he learned to be a little be more emotional around the boys enough as he learned that it’s okay to be a bit emotional if he needs to around them BUT then Doomstar completely wrecked him)
I really adore trying to write characters that are normally stoic in the show into more gentler/emotional people. I feel like the DVD extra of him taking calls and season 4/Doomstar shows he can be emotional! He has friends outside of Dethklok, his own hobbies/interests, definitely feels something and I don’t think my idea of him is really all that far fetched. He’s not just some asshole in a suit and while he has done questionable things, 9/10 it’s for the sake of Dethklok and not himself (Whoops forgot about Melmord here but even then I think Charles isn’t being selfish because he really does know he’s the only one that keep them in control-Melmord is just a snake oil salesman in a non-existent clown costume or something-)
I do keep in mind that he is a serious person and most likely is even when around people he completely trusts. He’s a person who can be a bit hard to read but he’s also not that hard when you actually get to know him and really know where to look when talking to him. Also I do headcanon that he is autistic but that’s for another story i think
He’s a character that even though I know is emotional inside, he does have to keep a stoic/non-expression look to him on the surface. He has the most important job in his life and he’s well aware of it. Being emotional/expressing anything but seriousness could possibly endanger him and Dethklok. It’s probably not by much because I do think even when he is emotional and can express himself, it’s still controlled to a degree. He can’t just let himself completely break in front of someone, he wouldn’t allow that at all.  I’d imagine he’d have to pretend that he only sees them as coworkers and nothing else or that the band would have to do the same to him or there would be kidnapping attempts. there probably is anyway on a yearly basis but thanks to him, it’s near impossible to do that as they do have highly trained klokateers.
But I still believe even regardless of that that it must get exhausting at times. A warm bed and wanting to sleep in is something that everyone desires to do at least once but they have to get up early and go to work or do whatever they need to do. Charles is human and he’s a human has needs like everyone else. I feel that he does probably have the days where just sleeping in sounds like a wonderful thing to do or that there are stressful days where he’d just need a long bath or something. Because of this, I don’t really seem him as aggressive or overly dominant when off work and in a relationship. Having to take care of a band and basically the world’s economy is exhausting. If he just wants to be taken care of, let him!!
Basically what I’m saying is let the guy take a nap
I do like to try and base off characters/writing off real people/situations so I think I gotta say Brian Epstein who managed the Beatles really helped in figuring out how Charles is like as a manager to Dethklok-I really began researching him around the time I got into the show because of class and it was interesting reading about him and I honestly think he’s one of the best band managers I heard of (next to Peter Grant of course-). I do also relate to Charles in some level though the patience he has I think is really almost inhumane because wow-
I kinda did write Chickles first before this so i might be repeating? So I’ll just leave this as it is but either way, I just like writing him as a little bit more emotional/down to earth. I get that it might be OOC a bit but I feel like the aggressive/dominant part is a little bit way too OOC-
Chickles
I honestly wonder why I write them so in love too if i have to be honest dsflkj
To answer what the inspirations; i feel like a huge factor into why I write them the way do (and probably any other ship) is because while i have had the feeling of falling in love before, i never really had the experience of being in a romantic relationship or went anywhere even close to that with someone. I feel like this is kinda obvious but its about the yearning I kinda do fantasize what it must be like but I do also take what I have learned/read/seen from either relationships I know of personally or seen in media and apply to them. I take both toxic and good relationships to see what I do/don’t want to write when it comes to relationships and what they would/wouldn’t do. I don’t use toxic relationships to completely shape a relationship but rather analyze it, see why it’s toxic in the first place, and see what I can do to either when I write relationships/pairings in general. Obviously I use Addams family’s Morticia and Gomez as a base for writing good relationships in general because who wouldn’t???
I also think writing terribly written Chickles fanfics and even ones with Charles probably help to in writing Charles. Are they near uncomfortable and make me wanna take a shower after reading them? Yes-but reading them not for entertainment/knowing what you’re getting into and then thinking about why you didn’t like it honestly helps in keeping a character in check. Not something I recommend for works that can potentially trigger you but for for those fics that just don’t nail their character right, can be useful in knowing how you don’t want to portray a character/relationship. It can be VERY easy to make Chickles a toxic pairing if you don’t know how to handle them right. Having a character like Charles be with someone like Pickles can be easy to butcher if someone doesn’t really study their characters. Charles doesn’t have to be completely dominant nor is he a Christian Grey-like character that doesn’t seem to know how to properly communicate with his partners. And Pickles is definitely not a weak, submissive person and is stronger/braver than anyone gives him credit for when writing those relationships. I like to think that while one may be a little more dominant/in control of the relationship, they are complete equals. If one needs to be taken care of, the other will step in and help them out.
Writing them that they had knew each other in the Snakes N’ Barrels era/80s has always been basically canon to me too! So I guess it just makes it also a lot easier to write them as in love when I set the stories in dethklok/present day; whatever problems that they had in the beginning that they fear the other might judge/yell/misunderstand for would be long since resolved/handled by the time the show aired. Whether they actually date or not by then kinda depends on the story but either way, they would have a strong relationship. They would have learned about each other, their problems and who they are inside and out. They fall in love with the little things they do and learn to handle any pet peeves with them but accept them as who they are. They have gone through so much together behind the scenes and their relationship to each other probably is one of the few that hasn’t changed when Dethklok got incredibly famous.
Season 3 and onward might be a different story. Though it’s not because of personal grievances but more of just the topic of keeping secrets & not telling the truth when they would’ve most likely been so honest with each other before. And honestly that’s what makes it REALLY devastating to write about; Pickles would know jackshit for at least a few years (Assuming that Season 3 & Season 4 took place within 3 years at best.)  and I don’t think watching someone you really love/care about die in front of you, then come back less than a year later and refuse to talk about why they’re here and give vague/cryptic answers is gonna put things back to normal.  (Maybe one day I’ll finish that fic I poured near 10,000 words in-).
And honestly it’s probably where I would like to explore on their relationship the most but it’s just so damn complex and detailed that I definitely need a lot of time to work on. They’d both want things to go back to normal but by Charles coming back, it signaled that things weren’t as what they used to be and that they most likely won’t be. What used to be a relationship based on comfort, familiarity, and a predicted unpredictability, has become something much more than neither of them have either prepared for. They’ll have to work hard to move past it and accept that like their relationship, things won’t be like they used to be. But with how much time they have spent together and that they still love each other regardless, they’ll be able to go through with this and get their happy ending!! (And I guess this is why I evolved from ‘definitely not the marrying type’ to ‘yeah they definitely get hitched after galaktikon’ because charles and pickles have probably signed a lot of important documents all their lives, so signing a marriage certificate that binds them to each other would be the most sentimental/important document he’s ever signed.)
All in all, they have such good potential writing because it’s just easy to write them for me. From their first meetings to first relationship to getting to be signed to Dethklok, I feel like they have something I probably won’t be able to replicate in other ships. They are an absolute joy to write and getting to explore.
God i could go on forever about them but im gonna stop dlfskj

“But Socks!” you, as the convenient strawperson, exclaim, “as much as I’d love to read your Dragon Age stuff, I’ve never played Origins and/or Awakening! I don’t really know anything about Grey Wardens or the events of those games!”
Well all you had to do was ask, Convenient Strawperson-chan! ^_^ I know Grey Wardens play some small part in DA:I, which seems to be the game most people have played, but I’ll just start from the beginning. I’ll also be including personal headcanons that come up in Dragon Age: Schism, though I will mark them as such.
Under a cut for the sake of people’s dashes. Consider this a first post in a series. (I’ll answer questions that non-strawpeople want to ask, too!)
So, really now, what is a Grey Warden? Well, that depends on who you ask. To most people outside the order, the Grey Wardens are a glorious order of noble heroes! And why is that? Well, they’re immune to the darkspawn taint (which usually kills people) and so they can safely slay darkspawn! They’re also the only ones who can stop Blights!! ...though this last bit of information is often forgotten, given that Blights happen once every few centuries.
If you ask me, the Grey Wardens are the biggest dick move in Thedas, which is actually part of why I love them. Here’s all the downsides to joining this “glorious order”:
First of all, the Right of Conscription. Ferelden has it; not sure if other nations in Thedas do? Anyway, it means that Grey Wardens can recruit anyone at any time. In practice, they have to be careful how they wield this tool (especially in Ferelden), but the RoC has been used to save people from hangings or other deadly fates... on the condition that they become a Warden Recruit. So... didn’t want to be Warden Recruit? TOO BAD, YOU ARE NOW. And no, you don’t get a say in the RoC.
Second of all, there’s the Joining. It turns out that, in order to become a Grey Warden, you have to drink darkspawn blood. And a bunch of other stuff in there, but really now, DRINKING DARKSPAWN BLOOD. You might recognize this as a stupidly dangerous thing to do, given that darkspawn blood KILLS THINGS. But your options are drink it or die, because the Grey Wardens present at the Joining will kill you if you try to back out after learning about this. If you drink from the Joining chalice, you also might die, but your name will be remembered as a Grey Warden at least? Even though you’re dead. And hey, if you live, you... become “immune” to the darkspawn taint, which is to say you’re already fucking tainted so it’s not like it can get worse. Want to know why the Grey Wardens don’t tell people they’re gonna make them drink darkspawn blood? Well, if they did that, people wouldn’t want to join, and we need Grey Wardens.
Supposing you survive the Joining, there’s the shortened lifespan (10-30 years depending on your sources; my headcanon is just straight up 10-ish years) and the nightmares (that maybe you can learn to tune out). Again, they don’t tell you this until afterwards. Why? Because then people might not want to become Grey Wardens... yadda yadda.
Oh, and forget about having kids! It’s very difficult if not impossible to have children as a Grey Warden!
At some point, even if you were able to tune the nightmares out, they’ll come back and there’ll be nothing you can do about it. That’s the first sign of The Calling. Because it turns out that the Joining is really just turning you into a ghoul, except very, very slowly. You’re getting close to Ghoul-dom now. Most Grey Wardens choose to die in battle against the darkspawn rather than waiting to be turned. It’s tradition.
And if there’s a Blight going on? Oh, well, it turns out that the only way to kill an Archdemon is to sacrifice a Grey Warden. Why didn’t they tell you? DO YOU EVEN HAVE TO ASK NOW?!
The motto of the Grey Wardens is “In war, victory. In peace, vigilance. In death, sacrifice.”
So what I’m saying is that Grey Wardens are SUPER TRAGIC BADASSES. They also wind up pretty cut off from their former lives, so the Wardens become their family. So, basically, SUPER TRAGIC BADASS FOUND FAMILY. I really don’t see how I was not supposed to love them immediately.
They still have this reputation of “glory” and all that, but so many of their recruits were thieves or ne’er-do-wells saved from the gallows by the RoC. If you look at just the Wardens we have at the end of Awakening (and this is my list, i.e., the Wardens we have in Dragon Age: Schism):
The Warden (aka the Player Character): the Hero of Ferelden, but may have come from questionable backgrounds, depending on the origin you picked. Duncan might even have had to RoC you. If nothing else, much of Ferelden believed Loghain’s lies that the Wardens were traitors and murderers of beloved King Cailan, and that’s a hard thing to come out from under. In the case of Kivral, she’s a Dalish elf, and elves are... not exactly much beloved, the Dalish even less so, as they’re often painted as “savages.”
Alistair: King Cailan’s half-brother, thanks to their father, King Maric, getting a little something in on the side (”You’re not just a bastard, you’re a royal bastard?”). Kivral didn’t put him on the throne, but you can if you want in your game. In any case, despite being the most experienced Warden in the group (he Joined six months before the PC), he prefers to follow and let the PC lead. Also in love with Kivral (again: my choice; you can romance someone else in your game), who’s head over heels for him. His mere existence is a threat to the throne.
Nathaniel Howe: Son of Arl Rendon Howe, who backed Loghain and was, in pretty much all ways, a motherfucking asshole. Nate shows up trying to steal shit from the keep Queen Anora granted the Wardens, even though he insists he wasn’t stealing because it’s his stuff. The seneschal at the time wants to hang him. Kivral decided he’d undergo the Joining instead. Along the way, Nate learns about his father’s actions, comes to accept that, yes, his father was a sonuvabitch, and even pays special attention to non-noble/non-human companions, learning about the privilege he’s had most of his life.
Anders: When you first meet Anders, he’s surrounded by dead Templars and dead darkspawn. He swears forwards and backwards that the darkspawn killed the Templars and then he killed the darkspawn. REALLY. Even though he had run away from the Circle and was being hauled back there by those same Templars. In fact, a Templar shows up and wants to drag him off, but you can call RoC and recruit him instead. And also give him a kitten.
Velanna: Dalish mage exiled from her clan, even though she was the Keeper’s first - i.e., in line to be the next Keeper. She’s trying to find her sister, and that’s the only reason she signs on with you. HATES HUMANS. HAAAAAAAATES HUMANS. SO FUCKING MUCH. HATES THEM. Not exactly a “people person.” Like, at all.
Sigrun: Casteless dwarf who joined THE LEGION OF THE DEAD. In other words, a fucking badass already. But she’s also this adorable ray of sunshine? Like... her life sucked so she made the choice to consider herself already dead and then you can get her to join the Wardens who are basically Dead People Walking, just on the surface.
Oghren: One of your companions from Origins. A drunken, lecherous pervert of a dwarf, but he also unlocks the Berserker specialization for warriors in DA:O. He basically just shows up near the beginning of Awakening and is like, “Hey, I had fun killing shit with you and I wanna do more of it.”
Justice: Not in Schism, but mentioned in the notes: Justice is literally the Spirit of Justice who has taken over the corpse of a Grey Warden named Kristoff. In regular Dragon Age canon, Justice eventually leaves Kristoff’s corpse and hitches a ride with Anders, whose anger at the Chantry and the general treatment of mages turns him into VENGEANCE. In Schism, Justice departs back to the spirit world.
But I give you this list for a reason: thieves, exiles, casteless, apostates. These are the Great and Glorious Grey Wardens we’re dealing with here. Even Duncan, Maker watch over him, was a rogue and a thief before he became a Grey Warden and eventually rose to Warden-Commander of Ferelden.
In the time period of Dragon Age: Schism, the people of Ferelden are still recovering from the Blight, from the death of their king, from Loghain’s claims of Grey Warden treachery, etc. Many generations before, there was a Grey Warden rebellion against the then-king, Arland, for his tyrannical ways. The Wardens were slaughtered - either by the king’s troops or by the demons that the Warden mage Avernus summoned in desperation - and the Warden Order was cast out of Ferelden until King Maric assumed the throne and allowed them back in. He even reinstated their Right of Conscription (though, again, you can’t just RoC anyone and everyone all the time; that’s a good way to get it - and possibly the Order again - revoked real quick).
So the Wardens are on shaky ground in Ferelden, where our story is set and centered (just as in Origins/Awakening). There aren’t many of them (see list above because - again, aside from Justice - that’s literally all of them in the entire country) and people are still sort of side-eyeing them. They have Queen Anora’s support, but even that’s shaky, especially while Alistair - who could have taken the throne in her place - is still alive and kicking. The leader of the Wardens of Ferelden may also be the Hero of Ferelden, but, in the case of Schism-verse, is also a “knife-ear” (as the slur goes), and not Andrastian (she’s not Fantasy Christian, basically).

Theory on ATLA and Reincarnation
Been rewatching ATLA for the last week or so, hoping to be timed right to jump right into LOK when it comes out on Netflix. I watched all of LOK when it came out, but haven’t fully rewatched it much if at all since then, and there’s probably a lot I have forgotten. Just as a warning. I hope to refine this theory as I go along and have a fully polished headcanon for personal use by the time I’m done.
Starting from two basic premises:
1. Reincarnation is a thing in the ATLA world. That’s kind of a given.
2. Reincarnation cannot exist for only one person. If one person reincarnates, other people can, too. I find that other characters’ casual discussion of Aang’s past lives is enough indication that reincarnation is the generally accepted form of afterlife in the ATLA world. It would be a mistake to give an Asian-themed world western Christian notions of heaven and hell, and the spirit world is clearly inhospitable to most humans. I don’t remember much discussion of ghosts, but they aren’t incompatible with reincarnation anyway.
The avatar’s only an exception because a. Raava gives them access to all four elements, and b. Raava holds complete memories of all past lives and gives the avatar access to them as well, enabling both remembrance and direct communication as if their past lives are separate people. Regular people reincarnate, but do not experience anywhere near the volume and accessibility of part life memories as the avatar does. I’d say awareness of one’s past lives is, on average, nil in everyone except the avatar.
I’m going to go out on a limb and say that a person’s level of spirituality that determines their ability to bend accumulates through multiple incarnations, and it doesn’t always apply well to a new element. Non-benders continue to incarnate as non-benders until they have enough spiritual training or experiences that bending is… let’s call it unlocked in their next life. Benders may become more naturally gifted if they reincarnate as a bender again, or they may become a non-bender if they had a traumatic experience or to go through a break or lesson, or may struggle with reincarnating as a bender of their natural opposite element, potentially making them a non-bender by default even if they technically have the right spirituality and genetics for it.
I’m also going to point out before I begin throwing past life ideas around that for most of these characters, I don’t know whether their status as living or dead is ever confirmed. I read three of the comics, basically. I’m just going by “everyone on LOK has to be a reincarnation of someone from ATLA” logic.
So here’s a few ideas on who could be reincarnations of whom:
Aang’s son Bumi is obviously the reincarnation of his friend King Bumi. I don’t think it even matters whether King Bumi lived long enough for the dates to line up; King Bumi would have waited around for Aang to start having kids. That’s why Bumi starts out as a non-bender--by genetics, Aang’s kids could only be airbenders or waterbenders. Bumi has everything lined up right to be an airbender, but cannot grasp it because King Bumi was so intensely an earthbender. That’s also why he got airbending later on in the show when--if i recall correctly--the spirit world opening up essentially forced a bunch of people around the world to be airbenders without any other requirements. Bumi already met all the requirements, everything else about him just gave airbending a big nope until it was forced upon him. He was basically first in line.
(side thought: or maybe when reincarnating all non-avatar benders have to take a lifetime off from bending in order to reset or something?)
(side note: I want to state for the record that Tenzin does not strike me as the reincarnation of Gyatso, nor does Kya strike me as the reincarnation of Katara and Sokka’s mother. It’s not just a namesake thing. Plus we all know that Gyatso reincarnated as Momo for a while, and whoever he is in LOK he’s probably having much more fun than Tenzin.)
Now let’s discuss Sokka, the only member of the main cast of ATLA who is probably dead by LOK; I’m not sure whether it’s 100% confirmed anywhere, but he’s really really not around and it’s a logical conclusion. The first thought to leap to about who he might have reincarnated as would be Bolin, as the goofy comic relief boy of the main cast of Korra, but I don’t think their personalities fit very well. (...I know that given the evidence of the Avatar’s personalities in succession incarnations, personality doesn’t have much to do with it, but it’s all I have to go on here). If the timeline fits right, I did have the much more entertaining notion of Sokka reincarnating as Prince Wu, but I’m also partial to Sokka being one of Tenzin’s younger kids… and I am not sure any of those fits his personality particularly better, either. I will probably have to think about it very thoroughly when I watch Korra.
Honestly, it’s mostly because I had an idea I like way better for who Bolin might have been in a past life, and that’s Ty Lee. I… don’t know if she’s dead yet as of LOK, but I like this idea so much I don’t care. I mean, he’s awfully flakey for an earthbender, and he’s so into standing out and being an entertainer. I’m gonna test this theory out when I get up to LOK next week, but I want it to fit even if it doesn’t.
And I had some conflicting ideas about Mako’s possible past life, but so far I’ve concluded that the most interesting one is Jet. Certainly, if Jet reincarnated as Mako he’s been learning good, hard lessons about his past-life prejudices, something that doesn’t fit nearly so well for lots of other characters I could think up.
Anyway, that’s pretty much all I could think up without having watched LOK for quite some time, and I wanted to hurl my ideas into the void before I did something to make me gunshy like, idk, looking up whether any of these characters actually died or whatever. I could just point to the old people of ATLA for the past lives of LOK characters, but where’s the fun in that? Especially when the best old dude of ATLA is 100% not reincarnated yet and is just chilling in the spirit world being awesome?

Rogue- romance headcanons
name: Anna Marie Darkholme
nickname: Rogue, Stripes (good way to get a punch in the face), River Rat (better be Remy...), Polecat (punch worthy), Kid (better be the right person, or again, punch in the face), Marie (certain people, mostly Logan or Aaron are allowed). You are NOT allowed to know her “Christian name” unless she decides she likes you and trusts you enough to give it. And you better not alter it or she will get pissed.
gender: cis female
romantic orientation: panromantic demisexual, could be polyamourous under the right circumstances
preferred pet names: verse dependent- typically babe, sweetheart, darlin’, chère, kid (if you’re not Logan or John…start running)
relationship status: verse dependent- anywhere from single as single gets, to committed partner with a kid
favorite canon/fandom ship: um, you want me to pick? For one, I multiship for a reason, they’re all…individual. They’re not the same ship depending on the partner. And I don’t stick to just canon. Some of my fav ships are crossovers (Matt Murdock) and OCs. Sooooo, no. Not picking. Can’t make me. I will say I’m always a sucker for Romy and Rogan shipping, but neither is my end all, be all of shipping by a long shot. I like being able to explore a different storyline, even with the ‘same’ character. Sue me. It’s the beauty of roleplay.
opinion on true love: sigh. This, this is complicated. Because she’s very much a romantic. She loves books, obviously romance is a common plot or subplot. She’s had the ideal of love constantly in her face in fiction. But her reality has been her mother leaving her father, and Mystique being…Mystique, and wondering how authentic her and Irene’s relationship is. Basically she desperately wants true love to be real. She believes she’s just seen shitty versions of love, people that weren’t meant to be together. She also questions whether or not she is actually worthy of love. If her power isn’t some way of the universe laughing at her, like she didn’t get the message when her mother left her. She wants to be very, very wrong, she’s just not sure that she is.
opinion on love at first sight: doesn’t think it exists because she views authentic love as being a deep level of care and want for wellbeing of the other person above one’s self. Lust at first sight? Like at first sight?  Some kind of undefinable kinship connection? Definitely believes in them, she’s experienced them. Love at first sight? Nope. Not a thing in her mind.
how ‘romantic’ are they?: Rogue’s romantic tendencies fluctuate based on her partner’s needs. Is their thing dinner in and a movie? Cool, she’ll make it happen. Spend the afternoon doing an engine build together? That’s what’s up. They want to go to a fancy restaurant? She’ll happily dress up to go. Seeing them happy, is what makes her happy. She feeds off their happiness, and stresses over their stresses, so her goal is to see them taken care of and happy. Laughter from the person she loves, highlight of her day. She’s very prone to leaving little notes in places like work desk, favorite food, on the bathroom mirror in the steam, texting good morning/night when not around, random little cutesy…or not so innocent, texts throughout the day. She notes their favorite food and drink, it stays in stock. She’ll often be up first and have the coffee ready for them both. If there’s something to be done that can take a load of them, she offers.
ideal physical traits: she’s borderline demi/sapiosexual. She really doesn’t have “ideal” traits because personality means a lot more to her than physicality. While it’s not intentional, it’s purely happenstance, she generally ends up falling for someone with slightly above average to enhanced physicality. More a product of usually keeping company with mutants and other powered humans or supernatural beings than seeking it out. If you were to force her to name ideal traits they would likely include bright eyes of no particular color, longer hair (she’s highly tactile, okay?), and a really nice smile. She’s not so picky about them being short, tall, feminine or masculine, etc. You really couldn’t even peg a preferred hair color on her, she’s fallen for all of them.
ideal personality traits: now this is where she’s picky. Both confident, self-assured, and shy, quiet have an appeal to her. Someone who can be an extrovert and in charge is a big turn on, but she’s also a nurturer and can find kinship in other introverts. It basically flips her switch, quite metaphorically given she is a switch, and she’ll take the lead as needed. A sense of humor is a must, they absolutely have to be able to give and take sarcasm and sassback. It’s her default language. She cannot begin to be attracted to someone that is blasé to injustice or cruelty. She’s the definition of chaotic good, if you’re not willing to break the law with her to do the right thing, she won’t have any part of you. And lord knows if you’re cruel, she’s liable to injure you before dating you.
unattractive physical traits: Um, her mother and brother are both blue. Her brother has a tail. Remy has demon eyes. She really gives no fucks what you look like unless it was someone like Blob, or I don’t know, Cthulhu, yeah that she probably would have a hard time working past. That, and a really sour, mean face. Looking constantly pissed would be a big turn off.
unattractive personality traits: Cruel, arrogant (which isn’t the same as cocky but people that don’t know what a dictionary is pretend they’re synonyms and they’re really not, cockiness is justified confidence but arrogance is condescending and usually unwarranted), of the idea they’re never wrong, unempathetic, humorless, unaffectionate (she’s both touch and generalized affection starved, that’s a no go), and unable to get passionately worked up over something they care about.
ideal date: She’s a pleaser, so her ideal date is what makes them happy. Hell, napping together counts as a date if that’s what her partner wants. Baking together. Reading aloud together. Working together. Going out and rounding up criminals. Hell, training together can count as a date (sparring is foreplay people, and you damn well know it). If you want a dream date, getting out away from the city, bonfire and camp food, stargazing, maybe screwing in the back of a pickup or in a tent. Wouldn’t even need to spend the night camping if not desired by the partner. Just some time away from the city is enough if they’re too much of a city slicker to want to rough it outdoors for the night.
do they have a type?: Y U P. Cocky, devil may care smirk, self deprecating, usually has a rocky past, wears leather, very affectionate and sexually driven, usually denies the fact they’re good even though she sees right through that. Gods she has a type. Majority of her ships, canon or not, fall into most of those categories.
average relationship length: once started, not exactly ended. At least on average. If they break it off, they generally drift back together unless something major truly cuts it off. As much as she has some commitment issues because of her Rejection Dysphoria , she’s also really determined to make a relationship work through effort if she cares about the person.
preferred non-sexual intimacy: Everything. Fucking. Everything. Touch is top priority. It can be just being laid up against each other, she wants to be touching whenever possible. Running fingers through hair? Prime. Using each other as pillows? Not optional. Just tracing patterns in skin? Don’t. Stop. Showering together? Yup. But really spending any time together, even with it being work, is intimate for her. As much as she likes someone opening up to her, just quiet time together also counts as intimacy for her.
commitment level: ride or die. Except she knows she’s not aging. So unless whoever she’s with is equally powered or supernatural, she knows she’s signing up to outlive them. And she knows it’s going to hurt like a bitch. Doesn’t stop her from committing once she’s truly attached and cares for them.
opinion of public affection: she likes it. She’s a slight bit of an exhibitionist and also likes to lay claim to whomever she’s with if someone’s getting a little too comfortable flirting with her partner. She won’t be overly affectionate to the point of it being considered obscene but she certainly isn’t opposed to holding hands, playing with hair, brief kisses, etc.
past relationships?: verse dependent, aside from Cody who barely counted as a relationship before her power landed him in a permanent coma. Yeah, great introduction to dating
