This cover is so important.

This is one of the retail incentive covers of IDW Sonic issue 1, 5th Anniversary Edition, illustrated by Adam Bryce Thomas and coloured by Reggie Graham. When I look at it, something about it tells a story to me, and that story is beautiful.

Sonic and Amy are at the Riverside Romp with Cream and Vanilla, but the rabbits are clearly giving them some space while doing their own thing.

Riverside is the town where Sonic and Amy meet for the first time in the comic series. The archway that holds the sign is also one of the decaying legs from Eggman’s crab mech, the first mech they fight together. Riverside is incredibly symbolic to them both, like how Never Lake would be in the games.

Their journey started rocky at Riverside. They couldn’t see eye-to-eye and had different approaches to how they both could help restore the world after the war. And yet, they still fully respected each other, dishing out compliments and praise and a desire to work together (in different ways). Amy even professes her love for Sonic and vows to him that she never wants to change him, and he bashfully asks her to stay with him in return. They cared for each other, loved each other, immensely then, and now, they’ve chosen to return to Riverside stronger as a pair and as individuals.

Sonic and Amy spend their day together, but they’re both their own people. Amy fawns over the sweets and the loving decorations while Sonic ogles a chilidog. They both indulge in their interests, but close together. One doesn’t need to be exactly like the other, and neither of them want that for the other. As long as they know the other’s there and always will be, that’s all they need. Being their own people despite their connection is what strengthens their bond, because the admiration they have for each other and their differences is so high.

But then, they still want to be together. They dance and cheer with interlocked fingers while sparks fly between their hearts. Cherry blossom petals sway around them, delighting in new beginnings and young love. Sonic and Amy compliment each other, bringing out the brighter sides of theirs souls. Amy’s having the time of her life, living in the moment knowing that Sonic is there with her now and always. But, beautifully, Sonic’s living the moment with with her, taking in her excitement and beauty. He usually doesn’t allow himself the pleasure, but he can’t help it, now.

Sonic and Amy have such a deep understanding of each other that it transcends language. They are in love, and I am in love with them.

Oh to be Nanamis' arranged marriage wife. It's an adjustment for you both, but little by little, a bond forms. Nanami is being VERY considerate of you the whole time... until the day he hears you crying on the phone to someone you trust that he hasn't made a move on you yet. And then the flood of all his feeling for you come rushing out

*sigh* oh heavens, can you even imagine?

he's been cordial, a gentleman, so considerate over this arrangement that neither of you could control. he knows that he's lucky to be matched with a beauty as yourself, but he doesn't want to take advantage of the situation. yes, you've both created a bond but he would never want to abuse his power into thinking that you didn't have a choice regarding the intimacies in your relationship.

so of course it breaks his heart when he hears you crying, when you he hears you call yourself undesirable - because the man was trying his best all the while fighting against his instincts with every ounce of will he has. the way your voice breaks sits in his mind for the rest of the day, and eats him up from the inside out. he absolutely will not stand having his wife be so upset.

you've been sleeping in separate rooms since you started living together, so you're completely caught off guard when he asks you to join his bed for the night. you don't even want to move once your are tucked under the sheets, so painfully aware of his presence and your racing heart which only stills when you feel his palm gently reach for your waist.

"is alright if I move closer?" he asks, and you shift onto your side to face him completely, lips parting at how beautiful he looks with the moonlight bathing his skin and his golden locks tousled in front of his eyes. you swallow the lump in your throat and nod your head, feeling the mattress dip as he seals the gap.

you arch slightly feeling his hands roam just a little lower and rest on the small of your back, and he gives you an encouraging smile before whispering "you can touch me, it's alright". your hands mindlessly reach for his broad chest, placing them flat against the firm muscle and feeling the echo of his heartbeat reverberate against your palm.

shivers run right through you when he leans a little closer, his lips brushing along your bow as he places the tiniest kiss. "this is nice, isn't it?" he asks, firmly massaging your tailbone and making your thighs clench.

you tilt your chin up, tucked comfortably in place where your lips are only inches away from his neck. you nip at your bottom lip before leaning forward to return the kiss, allowing your mouth to linger just a few seconds longer and drawing out a hum from your husband who tightens his hold against your lower back.

"yeah," you breathe, "this feels really nice."
