you were about to piss your pants.

your palms were sweaty as you cradled the sheathed sword between your hands. your head was down as you looked at the ground.

you were in a car with rion, nagumo, and taro. rion was bickering with nagumo in the front seat while taro was sitting quietly in the back with you. taro, being more observant than everyone else, sensed that you were nervous. well, you were always nervous…but he could tell it was more than being nervous. extreme anxiety perhaps.

“...is everything okay on your end?” he asks. you nod, not being able to form a sentence properly. you were scared out of your wits.

you were dragged by rion to join her and her crew (nagumo and taro) to a mission that you really, really, REALLY, didn’t want to go on. she bribed you with a pizza bun. out of everything. this trip was not worth a convenience store pizza bun. but you went because rion liked you and was very much your only friend. the other two however, you didn’t know that much except for rumors and whatnot floating around them. taro, was a man of few words. he wasn’t as emotionally interactive but he was kind to you so you didn’t mind. nagumo was an undoubtedly attractive tall man with dark hair and eyes. you only recognize him because he’s a classmate in one of your classes that he only shows up once a month in. you always let him borrow a pen or any weapon on you, and he was very talkative towards you. you had a feeling that he was observing you in class but you didn’t really pay mind to it. he was an assassin–a great assassin, so maybe that feeling was normal. if he weren’t an assassin, he’d make a great model or even an idol. you’d definitely be one of his fans. you were a sucker for pretty men.

the car swerves to a stop while everyone goes silent (well, taro was always silent anyway).

“we’re being followed,” rion quietly announces.

you look cautiously behind you. you could sense a presence even though you didn’t visibly see anyone. you grip your sword even harder, you could feel a pool of sweat forming. rion sighs and pulls out a hidden pistol under her shirt. nagumo pulls out an swiss knife while taro face hardens as he looks behind him.

“exit slowly,” taro says to no one in particular.

the four of you exit slowly, before any of you could react in time a gust of wind was felt. everyone turned around too late and everyone was thrown in different directions. except for you. for some reason. you were about to seriously throw up.

“you fell into my trap,” the perpetrator sneers.

you turn around to see…the convenience store man?! you recall the time seeing this huge burly man as you were clumsily knocking everything over before ruining his display of various snacks on the counter. to be fair you were high on caffeine from an all-nighter. you also remember his face when you knocked them down, he looked astonished and angry that you almost wanted to become his employee to pay him back. but you fled out of fear that you would piss him off even more.

yeah, you were going to piss your pants.

luckily, rion swoops you out of the way before the convenience store man striked you.

“i’m really sorry about this, i never knew that this guy had a grudge on you,” she grimaces while pulling you up as she thrown both of you into the tunnel wall. “um…i’ll treat you, again, sorry.” you felt bad but before you could even accept her apology, she grins mischievously. “at least i got you out of your dorm for billions of years!” you retract your acceptance to her apology.

the man charges toward both of you before nagumo and taro block his way pulling out their respective weapons while rion pulls out her gun and shoots. as the three of them were distracted, another perpetrator behind you grabs you by the throat.

“watch out!” nagumo yells, noticing you while the others swivel back in time with his voice.

“sorry about this,” the monotone voice says. you turn just in time to see who was doing this to you, a woman with yellow eyes stares at you back. the janitor??? from the convenience store??? you were so, so, so, SO confused at this point. you didn’t inconvenience her (no pun intended) at all. possibly. who knows. it didn’t matter anymore anyway because you pulled out your sword and slashed her face because you were terrified. an automatic reflex that you had ever since you became an assassin.

the woman falls back in surprise and in shock as she looks up at you. a large gash on her face appears.

you were surprised too because you totally forgot you did that.

rion, nagumo, and taro were surprised (well only taro was because nagumo had a weird smile on his face while rion’s face was a mix between taro’s and nagumo’s expression).

the convince store man charges at you as the others were gawking at you, you even more terrified punch the shit out of the man with closed eyes.

he crashes upon the tunnel wall as the others look at him in amazement and amusement. nagumo was really staring at you now, intensely trying to make eye contact with you as you looked away from this whole thing while walking briskly to the car. you needed xanax.

the car ride back to the school was quiet, but you could tell that they were somehow telepathically talking about you. you shrink into the car seat. when the car is pulled to a stop and everyone gets out, you’re stopped by nagumo as the other two walk ahead of you. he smiles with closed eyes practically copying the “^_^” emote.

“that was amazing, i knew there was something more to you!” he pats your arm as you slightly flush. “see you around, [reader].”

you could feel your heart beat even faster than the time where you punched the shit out of that guy.

Ya boy's got strep, gonna do every Gym Leader and the E4, some characters will have more cuz I'm autism but I'll write something for everyone

Roark;

He's the second youngest Gym Leader, like, 18 - 22 at most

That doesn't mean he's inexperienced, no, it's honestly based upon the timeline of whatever I'm writing but I think he's been a Gym Leader for a good few years

I get the vibe that he's just like really nice, like just a good, reliable dude who needs a break and is fortunately likable enough to escape his father's shadow

Gardenia;

She's afraid of like everything, beyond just ghosts, my girl is a coward

She's pretty close with every other Gym Leader because of this, got em all on speed dial to come get the Spinarak out of her house and all that

Such a cringe fail lesbian

Honestly I see her as such a Kobeni (csm) type character, she knows what you are

Maylene;

Girl is 9 get her out of here

My reasoning for that age is because in pokespe it's mentioned that she's younger than Platinum, who is like 12

She's not weak but like someone help this poor girl she don't know what's going on

Bros like, really good with kids, great at entertaining them, they just think he's cool af

She is really good at remembering things about her coworkers though, she's in charge of every birthday party, if you forget your birthday don't worry she remembered and she is in your house don't ask how she got in

I don't care if he's canonically just some skinny twink he's big to ME. Like- 6'4", at least 200 pounds, guy is just huge and bulky and built like a brick wall, tons of practical strength because,,,

This is more about his Luxray but his name is Oscar and he's massive, think an Alpha Luxray in Legends Arceus, that cat is huge, Volkner is only even slightly strong just to be able to lift him off of his bed at night when he's trying to sleep

Wildly irresponsible but on purpose, he thinks it's funny to endanger himself, no he won't seek help he doesn't believe in therapy because he wasn't properly helped when he was younger

He does care about Sunyshore though, spent a week fixing that black out that stopped you from visiting the city at first in DPPT, he claims it's Team Galactic's fault but like no one believes him

Sorry to give Volkner 5 I mean what to expect from the guy who named himself Volkner but he's related to like every Electric Type Gym Leader and also whoever I see fit. It's a very large family. He makes frequent trips to Unova to visit his only respected similarly aged cousin Elesa so they can trash talk their not respected similarly aged cousin Colress (Long story). Also yes I do believe Palmer is his dad and Barry is his younger brother and I'm deciding today that they all have a good relationship. (Also I want to elaborate on this all so much like smh I didn't even bring up the Shinx based ceremony but that's gonna have to be a different post)

I don't have biases what are you talking about anyways E4 time.

Aaron;

He may or may not be distantly related to this fellow green hair and prong having man named Ghetsis but that's more lore to unpack on my end and I don't want to explain my real life friendships that make Ghetsis relevant here.

He can't be in the same room with Gardenia for too long because she gets freaked out just knowing Vespiquen is there, they have to be cycled out intermittently at every League meeting

He's been in the E4 the 3rd longest despite the fact he's only slightly older than Flint and Lucian, everyone who doubts Bug Types is amazed

Bertha;

She's been here before Cynthia was Champion and was actually the Champion before the guy who came before Cynthia, there's no getting rid of her

The hair makes it obvious but she's related to Agatha of the Kanto Elite Four, sometimes they meet for tea and to trash talk every challenger they've faced as well as their coworkers

She's excellent at comforting people without even realizing what she said half the time, you'll thank her for the advice and she'll accept that without knowing what she told you to do, she was completely out of it

Flint;

He was the Oreburgh Gym Leader before Roark, however many years before depends on the timeline, but he was second choice to join after Volkner declined for reasons I don't actually have outside of my main au

He acts exactly like one of those straight boys pretending to be gay to make fun of gay people expect it isn't acting and everyone can tell aside from him (i.e. jokingly being incredibly affectionate with Volkner)

He's probably the most reliable friend one could have and is like always ready to throw hands, he has too much energy and just wants to punch someone in the face, please ask him to punch someone in the face he will happily do it he's begging you

Lucian;

Guys a fucking ass, like, he's just very rude. That's not because I hate him he just seems kind of stuck up. (I'm mad that he tells me about how much he reads whenever I talk to him in Pokemas because I can't read large paragraphs without my vision blurring and it feels like he's bragging, and also a specific decision I made for my general lore)

He's genuinely psychic, like, telekinesis style, it comes in handy at sorting books and throwing things at people because that guy ain't got an arm on him to save his life

I think that psychic power could be totally nullified by putting a hat on him. Battle tactic.

Cynthia;

Her father was Champion before her, she's a nepobaby, she would get upset if you called her that though because she worked real hard for her position and is tired of people devaluing her

Her slug is named Sharon and she hates men, specifically blonde ones. If you are near that Gastrodon as a blonde man you are about to be hydropumped. You can't out run Sharon don't even think about it just accept your fate.

Meanwhile her Garchomp is named Joan and she's just a large scaley puppy.

She definitely needs glasses but she's very stubborn

She also can't drive. Don't let her do it. She is going to hit another mythical Pokemon.

Cynthia is also incredibly shocked whenever she learns someone doesn't care about history as much as her. She's just like- in awe, she forgot people could have other interests and it's throwing her for a loop, she'll just kind of stand there with her mouth agape until you speak again and even then she'll never look at you the same again

Okay that's...everyone for today, I would do Team Galactic but at that point I'd feel like I have to write something for every single character in the game and I'm neglecting my homework too hard for that.

Chainsaw Man Daycare AU

Based on the Twitter post by cosie.

A Tokyo daycare run by director/principal Kishibe. Makima, Princi, Angel, Aki and Himeno work as teachers while the rest of the cast are kids.

Kishibe is an alcoholic who is used to the kid’s antics and noises. He sometimes annoys the teachers and in some occasions, the kids, by moping about his friend and crush Quanxi rejecting him because she’s a lesbian with 4 girlfriends. The teachers try to stop Kishibe whenever he mopes to the kids since they are still young.

Princi serves as Makima’s assistant teacher and while they’re both nice to the kids, the kids somewhat sense a sinister aura which makes them scared of them. The other teachers except Kishibe are also kinda scared of their presence and they try to get the 2 to open up during breaks and drinking parties without success. Makima tries to manipulate Denji into giving her his limited edition Pochita plush for her collection instead of using her common sense and either buy one at the store or online even if she has to sacrifice some money. Their fellow teachers constantly point out about Makima not buying it at stores or online.

Beam is Denji’s only male friend who always finds him cool to the point of weirding him out. He loves to swim and he is fit because of his training from his father who is a triathlete and his mom was a former competitive swimmer and currently a swimsuit and lingerie model. His mom’s job was the reason why he is usually shirtless and barefoot in class and his teachers always try to chase him, telling him to get dressed. He is never seen without his shark mask. His love of sharks came from watching sharks in documentary channels.

Katana Man or in this case Katana Boy serves as Denji’s rival and always gets into scuffles with him that the teachers always try to stop out of fear from his Yakuza family. He is friends with Akane.

Akane is a friend of Katana Boy and the mature one of the 2. She loves snakes and owns a pet snake at home that she sometimes brings at school. She usually gets dragged into scuffles because of Katana Boy’s actions.

Kobeni is an unlucky crybaby who gets scared easily and frequently trips and breaks things by accident. She is friends with Violence/Galgali who is an honest and gentlemanly kid.

Power is a selfish, boastful and a compulsive habitual liar. She’s a glutton who steals other people’s snacks including her teachers even though she has her own food. She likes to get dirty when playing and cries whenever her parents try to force her to bathe and she only gets in the bath through bribes. She is never seen without her devil horns headband and her stuffed cat plush named Meowy. She is friends with Denji but sometimes her closeness with him sparks debates between teachers and students whether they have a sibling like relationship or possibly young love blossoming between the 2.

Denji is a nice and naive boy who gets into fights with Katana Man and disturbs his teachers with his fighting methods AKA constant low blows coming from a young boy. He has a crush on his teacher Makima and on his classmate Reze. He is almost never seen with a limited edition Pochita plush which Makima tries to manipulate into giving it to her.

Reze is a nice girl who genuinely has a crush on Denji but sometimes takes advantage of his crush on her to make him give his limited edition Pochita plush to her.

Angel is a lazy teacher and a bit of a glutton. He tends to sleep when teaching the kids and when guarding the kids during playtime which causes multiple incidents and minor injuries involving the kids. He is good friends with Aki and Himeno.

Aki is a teacher who takes his work seriously but is secretly a softie. He usually gets annoyed by Denji and Power’s antics and pranks which he is usually a victim to. He is good friends with Angel and Himeno.

Himeno is a cheerful and caring teacher who lost her left eye in an accident. She has a crush on Aki that both the kids and her fellow teachers except Aki tease her about and play matchmaker to push the 2 together.

(basically a fanfiction where kobeni from chainsaw Man will wake up in genshin impact, it's extremely cursed I know, but my god it was so fun to write 😭!!! You do not have to read or watch chainsaw man to read this but I still encourage you do ^^)

Chapter 1: plea for help

Kobeni set down the food tray on the table, the customer looked displeased.

"so slow" was what she heard when she walked away, another complaint, another slap in the face from life.

Kobeni yelled "Family!" and posed as she joined her other co-workers for customer service practice.

"Hey, kobeni!" she turned around to be met with her boss as she let out a yelp.

"your smile is too stiff! Try smiling like you do with your family!"

The brown haired girl could only let out a strained "uh ! Y-yes sir!"

"one other thing! Maybe try to do something about that " uh " you do whenever you start to say something? It makes things sound not quite familial!" he stared down at her as he finished his remark.

"uh, yes sir-" she caught herself saying it again, frightened, she could only let out a series of "uh, uh uh uhhs" in panic.

İt was only stopped by a harsh slap in the face.

A slap from her boss.

"that's a familial slap"

She took a second to regain her thoughts, and looked up at her boss as sweat started to form on her face.

"I want you to remember that pain whenever you start saying "uh", if you do, I'm sure you will stop saying it, right? "

Kobeni could only nod. She felt someone put their arm around her shoulder, it was her co-worker.

" kobeni! Problems are best solved working together! Since we're all family! " he exclaimed.

She had quit devil hunting due to what she had to endure during it. Arai died protecting her and almost everyone she worked with had died. It was only logical, who would want to work at a job with a low survival rate?

Kobeni still needed money however, so she chose to work at a fast food restaurant called family burger, yet here she was, still miserable, getting abused by her boss and not standing up for herself because she didn't want to lose her job.

İt was all for her brother, for him to go to college. Her family had forced her to choose between devil hunting or prostitution, this was her last chance to make money for her brother if she didn't want to work as a sex worker.

Yes, this was all for him and her family, she needed to endure this treatment, she needed to make money, but she is so, so miserable.

So miserable she has to let out a weak "please help…" and pray someone will hear her plea.

"hm? What for?" her co-worker asked. She could only force a smile.

The sound of the door opening was heard.

Kobeni and her co-worker both turned around to see someone, no, something standing in front of them.

İt looked like someone had heard her plea,because a devil, one she could recognize, was the one standing in front of them.

She had left her devil hunting job so she could get away from these types of situations, but what she forgot was that devils could be found anywhere, there is no escaping them

"uh-uh uh!!" she panicked once more.

A customer stands up and tries to run, but the devil called chainsaw man stops him.

The sound of the customer's head falling on the ground rang in her ears.

Kobeni had prayed for someone to help her.

She did not pray for someone to make her relive the terrors that haunted her.

Chapter 2: wish

"Ah! I got a perfect score!" Kobeni looked at the screen of the ddr machine, her face was sweaty and she was out of breath from dancing. She blinked and turned around to see chainsaw man.

"... Why am I dancing?" she muttered to herself, her co-workers had gotten decapitated right in front of her eyes moments ago because of her, it was all her fault, had the adrenaline gotten to her?

After the customer got killed, chainsaw man had wanted to eat, her co-workers and boss told her to serve him a hamburger, yet she tripped, and chainsaw man killed more people.

İt was so easy, serve him a hamburger, no one could mess it up.

She had tripped again. She had tripped twice

He killed everyone.

She was that pathetic.

And now here she was, just got done dancing on a ddr machine, but not out of her own will, she was forced to entertain chainsaw man.

How could she have the audacity to yell that she had gotten a perfect score when all of that happened?

"why indeed" kobeni heard an all too familiar voice.

She looked up.

İt was makima.

The red haired woman spoke to chainsaw man, while Kobeni's mind was in shambles.

She had nothing to do with this, why was this happening to her?

Was it her punishment? For trying to kill Denji that one time in the hotel? For being the cause of several people's deaths?

"this has nothing to do with me, this has nothing to do with me.." she tried reassuring herself

"Oh you have a great deal to do with this too, kobeni" Makima told the girl.

"uh?!"

"Your fear of chainsaw man has weakened, hasn't it?" the woman said in a matter of fact way, looking down on Kobeni.

"huh…?"

One thing after another, Makima gave a speech on chainsaw man, Kobeni didn't understand what was going on.

Until she could see a beam coming towards her way.

Chainsaw man saved her.

"a true hero…" was the last thing kobeni heard from makima.

"Alright, it's safe to talk again. We won't be tracked here for a little while. Get some food in ya while we have this chance"

Kishibe had led Denji and Kobeni somewhere he deemed safe, Kobeni was still sweating from what had happened earlier, while Denji looked more spaced out then kobeni remembered him.

"I saw some things I shouldn't have… Does that mean Ms. Makima will kill me?" she asked

"yep" Kishibe answered as he made his way to a TV.

She took a second to process his short answer.

"I can't phone my family, can I?" she asked again.

"nope"

"for the rest of my life?"

A few seconds of silence.

"that's probably so"

Her legs finally gave out, hugging them as she fell to the floor.

"thank goodness…"

"hu?" Denji looked at her

"Thank goodness I have an excuse to get away from them…"

"from who?" Denji asked.

"My dad… And my mom…"

Denji stared at her, and sat down as well, they didn't say anything to each other as silence took over.

Kishibe sat in his seat "once you've eaten, get some sleep. Got an early start tomorrow"

Denji led his eyes towards Kobeni again.

She was shaking.

"hu? What's the matter?"

"I always get the short end of the stick… I'm so gonna die… I'm sc-" She swallowed.

"I-I'm scared of d-dying" the girl choked out, her voice hoarse, and her eyes puffy from crying all day.

She turned her head towards Denji, but she couldn't bring herself to look at him.

"must be nice to be you… you c- you can come back to life…"

Denji spoke

He told her he looked fine.

Yet his heart wasn't.

He took a bag of chips and opened it, spilling out his feelings to Kobeni.

How dumb he was.

How he was fine living as the fool.

How he never made any choices for himself.

Kobeni listened to him, listened and understood where he was coming from, even if their experiences weren't the same.

"Even if I make it out alive, I bet…I'll always be living in obedience to somebody like a dog"

That was what Denji said.

"isn't that just normal though?" the girl commented.

"hu?" Denji's eyes widened.

"There's no such thing as a life free of bad things…" she continued "except in your dreams…"

He could only look at her in shock.

"oh… But I wanted to be normal.. And… "

"You want to be normal Denji?"

She wanted to be "normal" too.

But she'll never be.

Denji then told all the things he wanted to Kishibe, crying and yelling his truths.

Kobeni could only watch.

The truth for kobeni was that she wanted to escape,and to live somewhere far away.

After everything that happened in her life.

She prayed that something will take her away from this world.

Not to die, just live far, far away from where she was. A place where she could be free

That was her only wish.

She finally closed her eyes, and went to sleep.

When she woke up, she was filled around grass, and the sunlight shone on her face.

Had her wish come true? Or was this just another dream?

Ch. 49- A Chance I don't Deserve

Himeno pressed on her temple, rubbing away the last remnants of a mild hangover as she walked to work. The pangs of guilt she'd felt emptying out beer cans the evening prior had long since subsided. A night of peace and quiet wasn't something she would flagellate herself over, no matter how unfortunate the circumstances that lead her there may have been. It had rained too, the air filled with the cold and earthy scent with puddles not yet evaporated hid in the shaded streets. As she reached the Public Safety office building she nudged the doors open, greeted by the bustling scamper of her coworkers. She shot them pleasant greetings, returned with absent minded head nods from vague acquaintances too busy with their own tasks to properly respond. She rounded the final corner, preparing to step into the room where her desk awaited her with no doubt a stack of meaningless paperwork and assignments when a voice interrupted her course.

"U-um... H-Himeno?"

She turned with a cheeky smile, the stammered words as familiar to her as the voice that carried them.

"Hey Kobeni, already back at work?"

The girl stood with an anxious determination, as eager to grab her attention as she was seemingly afraid of it. Half her body hid behind a decorative plant she'd seemingly been waiting behind for some time now.

"N-not exactly... C-can we talk? A-about Power..."

Himeno parked a hand on her hip, the proposition was only mildly unexpected, not enough to warrant a reaction beyond curiosity.

"Sure, what about her?"

Kobeni turned her head, observing the passers by, all too distracted to make notice of her, yet her words seemed cautious of their presence none the less.

"N-not here..."

She gestured, guiding the pair to a secluded corner behind stacks of boxes, seemingly getting ready to crawl into a makeshift fort before stopping herself and inspecting their surroundings. When she deemed the coast sufficiently clear she spoke once more.

"What happened... b-between you two?"

It was the question she expected, yet one she boldly refused to acknowledge was coming. Himeno rubbed the back of her neck nonchalantly.

"Ahhh, I ran my big mouth without thinking again s'all, didn't think she was listening in and she got pretty mad but it's just a little misunderstanding"

She capped off her reply with a lackadaisical grin.

"I-is that really all?"

The girl's persistence in the matter betrayed her intent, clearly holding words close to her chest she didn't have the spine to say outright.

"Pretty much, yeah. Why?"

Himeno did her best to affirm her lack of concern, as though convincing Kobeni of the frivolity of the situation was somehow going to make it so.

"W-well..."

The girl pushed her fingers together, readying herself for what she had to say.

"When I talked to her... i-it seemed like there was more going on..."

She was still reserved, hoping to nudge the rest out of Himeno, drawing her to a conclusion she'd hoped the woman had already reached.

"How much did she tell you, exactly?"

The question was more pointed than the others, and accompanied a change behind the hunter's expression. It was subtle, but a warmth withdrew from her voice, as she spoke more akin to an interrogator than a friend.

"Um... well... n-not that much I guess... she kept asking what made me so special... and why people don't like her..."

Himeno let out a long sigh.

"Devil hunting use to be a lot simpler when all you had to worry about was killing or getting killed..."

She took a moment to reflect on something, a more serious moment from a sterner past, one she always hid behind her carefree demeanor.

"You're a sweet kid Kobeni, but I know how to handle Power, she's just throwing a little tantrum, she'll be back to her usual self when she calms down, my aunt use to have a cat just like that"

The words slipped by before she could adjust her mask, a tone betraying her awareness hissing past her lips.

"P-Power's not a cat though..."

She'd noticed as Kobeni did, too late to hide herself away again.

"S-Sorry! I know it's none of my business..."

The girl stuttered, feeling as though she'd committed another grave faux pas by acknowledging it. Himeno stared at her, then past her, confronted by her own words ringing in her ears. She turned around, returning a glance over her shoulder as she left.

"No I... Thanks, Kobeni..."

Stubborn as she was there was no amount of apathy to excuse her negligence, and she knew it. The vile things she'd said, all the careless words and half-hearted non-appologies, the armor she'd built for herself to justify her mistreatment finally crumbled under it's own weight. The guilt tore at her, guilt she felt undeserving of yet guilt that came for her all the same. She made her way down the hallway, walking slowly, accepting the judgement of every voice in her head, her voice, it's gag removed now echoed in a thousand hateful screams she could not refute. She stepped into Makima's office with an orderly knock, catching sight of her little devil sitting dejected in the corner of the room. The redhead at the desk continued her work after an expectant expression on her face turned to indifference at the sight of Himeno, she bared the two no mind, merely taking the time to point a pen in Power's direction as the hunter entered before returning to her work.

"Hey kiddo..."

She moved her hand, brushing a length of hair out of Power's face, revealing her despondent frown. Himeno let out a sigh, the puff of frustration aimed more at herself than the little devil sitting beside her. She eased her fingers to her scalp, gently running them through her hair. Her eyes grew distant as her movements slowed, power finally tilting a glance her way. The two stayed like that for a moment longer, both settling into a mutual warmth they were both too guarded to accept, but too cold to refuse. Himeno broke from the spell first, turning her head towards Makima but the woman was still indifferently thumbing through her paperwork. She stood, offering her arm to the devil to pull her up which Power reluctantly accepted after an awkward pause.

"Look Power... I'm sorry... I know I haven't been good to you... I know you're mad at me and you have every reason to be but..."

Power simply waited, a look of exasperated fatigue speaking her words for her, a thousand empty promises had made her deaf to Himeno's hollow platitudes. The hunter knew this, a pain she'd convinced herself was irritation to seclude herself from her own mistakes, but it didn't make it any easier. The devil began to walk towards the door, cutting off the meaningless white noise and returning to her lot. Himeno clenched a fist, refusing fate another victory over her again. She put a hand on Power's shoulder, turning her around and wrapping her arms around her waist. She pulled her in, like she'd done before but in all the ways she never had, a touch of sincerity finally making herself clear to the both of them.

"I can't promise I'll know how to be better but… I promise I'll try..."

Power clenched her teeth, unwilling to reciprocate feelings she couldn't fully trust, holding back every welling emotion inside herself. She wanted to forget, to forgive and take the chance she was offered, but she'd been burned too many times, scars too numerous to count forbade her from such naiveté. Yet even so, she couldn't hold back everything, as her arms slid around Himeno in a half-hearted hug, not forgiveness, but a chance.

started reading chainsaw man (august 1st). here re my thoughts

what if denji / chainsaw man isnt actually super important or anything and shark fiend is the devil equivalent of your friend who gets Really Into local ska bands. denji isnt important sharkguy just really likes underground unimportant devils and when pochita WAS hanging around the devil scene he was super dope.

bomb devil (forgot her name) was so good. such a good character. i love her. i have the page where she says 'I've never gone to school either.' bookmarked because that's such. That's such a hard hitting line. Because the reason denji never went to school is because he was working around the clock constantly and never had a childhood. bomb devil never went to school because she was working around the clock constantly and never had a childhood. it makes me shake like a wet rat it's so . it means everything to me i think.

kobeni (pathetic girl) is like. almost fun. but she just doesnt hit it for me ig. i like it when shes competent though thats great. i loved her friendship with .. violence fiend? i think? that was really nice and sweet i liked it.

i'm loving it. the art style slaps and it has a bunch of women and it treats them like people and its just. its really good.

Thanks to a certain barf kiss, I can't sleep. So let's speculate instead.

This episode, Kobeni reminded me that she has a devil contract—but a secret one. As of chapter 112 (which has some top-class dramatic irony, btw), we don't know what devil she has a contract with.

Whatever it is, it's something she's doesn't use any of the times she's outmatched—not against the bomb girl, not against the Darkness Demon, not even [spoilers] at Family Burger or the date afterwards. She also doesn't use it in the Eternity Devil art or her other fight that will probably show up this season, though they was a bit less perilous than (say) Kobeni's Car vs. Power's Driving.

My point is that it's either too pathetic for her to bother with in even relatively ordinary fights, or has a cost so great she's not willing to pay it even when her life is on the line. Considering both the fact that Himeno identifies timidity as Kobeni's greatest weakness and the fact that nobody would make a contract not worth using, I'm guessing the latter.

Anyways, I decided to look up some speculation. Here are guesses I saw and my thoughts on them.

She was being metaphorically literal, and has a contract with the Secret Devil. Love the idea, no clue what that would look like.

Something that requires human sacrifice to activate. It's why she carries a knife as her primary weapon, to sacrifice people. I like this answer, but it's not really an answer about who she contracted with.

A luck-related devil, with Kobeni's contract being that she has enough good luck to survive the danger she ends up in, in exchange for bad luck anywhere it won't kill her. This fits surprisingly well, and feels like a contract Kobeni would make.

Various forms of [agile animal] Devil, giving Kobeni her agility. Monkey Devil was most common, since one of her opponents says she moves like a monkey in one panel; the Mongoose Devil was also popular. I feel like Kobeni's agility is down to skill/talent and not a devil contract, so this one feels BS.

On a related note: Knife Devil, because knife skills. Again, I don't think that's magic.

The Black Cat Devil. Luck, agile animal, and Kobeni is one of nine sisters. Best animal-related contract I've seen suggested, but A. it's unusually specific for a devil (have any other devils had adjective-noun names?) and B. I'm not convinced that any of that is actually devil-based. Maybe the luck.

The Death Devil, because Kobeni avoids death so easily. Lame; a theory which obviously only exists because the Death Devil has been mentioned as an important devil.

The Hunger Devil, because she says her hobby is eating delicious food and she works at a diner at one point. Interesting if true, probably wrong, falls into the same category as Death.

The seventh most important being in Chainsaw Man canon, Kobeni's car. (I did actually see this one, though sadly the speculator explained that it was a joke.)

One I never saw but expected: A certain spoiler devil who would probably ask her contract be kept secret from the other Devil Hunters present. Now, Kobeni's behavior once that devil properly enters the story absolutely clashes with this theory, but I'm surprised I didn't see anyone theorize it.

what’s your favorite csm character and why?

this is such a good question and i actually wanted to think on it for a little bit before answering. just as an FYI this is gonna be a little long and include manga spoilers so ill put it below a cut. the short answer for now is kobeni though!

csm is on of those series for me that i find difficult to pick just one favorite from. i think all of the characters have really delightful facets to them that make them all incredibly interesting. i love denji and power and I've talked a bit on here about why i love them. i don't think that's rly ever gonna change considering how well written and connected they feel to me.

but honestly... right now i think my favorite character has to be kobeni. she's someone who is somewhat parallel to denji in the sense that she has a really skewed sense of morals which kind of dictate the way she behaves. kobeni (to me) is a character that tries to be good but fails sometimes when push comes to shove. she's a scardey cat who doesn't want to die but doesn't quite want to live the way she's been living.

i really find her character to be interesting, especially when she almost immediately resorts to killing denji when given the option. and she's not demonized for it because it is considered a normal reaction for a human who is so desperate to simply survive. denji forgives her and kobeni grapples with the fact that that is who she became in her worst moment.

i also think the fact that she ran from devil hunting after the assassination incident makes her so compelling. we're told a lot of people either die or leave the public safety sector, but kobeni is one of the only characters we watch leave and still keep up with.

i really like how she's continuously roped into the story despite not wanting to be a part of it. she quits devil hunting but still finds herself targetted and in hiding with denji, a man who is a representation of her most shameful moment.

not only that, she feels relief when she's told she never has to go back to her family. kobeni is a character who constantly had to give up what she wanted for herself in favor of supporting her family who didn't support her in turn. she's used as a doormat by the people around her (which is why i think it's fantastic that she left devil hunting since she made the choice herself despite others' wishes) and even when she is seated beside denji, caught yet again in his crosshairs, she resorts to saying something that is both morally incorrect but understandable; that she is so relieved she doesn't have to live for her family anymore. i sympathize so deeply with that feeling of relief she experiences.

i really love her cowardice (which sounds like a shitty thing to say). i love that she was allowed to be afraid and still survive despite that. it was surprising to me the first time i read the series and saw that she SURVIVED because usually characters like her are marked for death just because they are scared. but kobeni, through the series, is allowed to be scared and cowardly and those qualities actually become her strength because they are the REASON she's alive. i love that she takes on this role in her family of a breadwinner but is allowed to be afraid for the future in a narrative sense. she's allowed to be anxious and cowardly and show the uglier side of being human without being made a villain. bc she's not a villain. kobeni is just a girl. she's a normal girl and i really TRULY love that about her.
