🚨SPOILERS FOR FHJY EP. 5-11🚨
1 theory and and an observation I made for FHJY from episode 7-11!
1. Yolanda Badgood.
I've been thinking a whole lot about Yolanda Badgood ever since we discovered what happened to her in episode 9. 🥲
She was like...my favorite teacher so I have the right to be sad! 😭
1st thing I wanna say is that...just cause I've been posting scenes from episode 7 but I'm fully caught up to episode 11 right now.
In episode 7. There's 2 things that happen that are alarming to me somewhat, and these are things that occur before episode 9 where we find Yolanda's body.
1. Kristen goes to talk to Yolanda about Lucy Frostblade but doesn't get a very high roll and uses a cursed Fig bardic to get more info from Yolanda about Lucy.
2. Kristen tells Yolanda about how Lucy Frostblade switched their deity and Yolanda said she was going to go talk to Principal Grix about it but Kristen said that talking to Grix wouldn't be a good idea, so Yolanda goes to talk to Jace Stardiamond instead.
I know that we assume that Yolanda died because of the events that occurred at Frosty Fair...and that very well may be. But I really doubt that the rat grinders had any kind of specific target just on "Yolanda". I think Yolanda died because she got "too close" or meddled with something she shouldn't have.
I definitely don't think the Rat Grinders had any type of beef with her? Unless maybe I'm wrong?
I don't fully know. Just because...well...if they did have beef with her, that is also Buddy's teacher but then again...I don't know exactly how much the rat grinders even care about each other as party members or how much they care about moving into a "pass-fail" type situation.
But then there's also the thing about Jace. Could Jace be involved with this somehow? Have the rat grinders been getting by so well because Jace is secretly supporting them behind the scenes? Did Jace have something or anything to do with Lucy? Wouldn't that explain something if Jace was maybe hiding that form of Lucy changing her deity and that's why Yolanda never even got it? Jace maybe never told her cause he didn't think it was necessary because he wanted to "cover this up"?
I don't fully know. I'm overthinking with my theories and I'm- 🥲
2. Baron and the Mysterious Voice
This isn't really a theory but more-so an observation I guess?
In episode 11, we discover the name of this dead god that is apparently Cassandra's spouse that she was in some kind of arranged marriage with. I'm a tad bit confused because in episode 11.
Baron says, and I quote: "The Nightmare King, very angry, once again in the arms of HIS loving partner. I think you should be very afraid Kristen Applebees, but not of sweet little old Baron from the Baronies. You have plenty of fish in your fish pot to fry with your fish oil."
What strikes me a bit weird about this is that Baron refers to the Nightmare King/Cassandra as "HE/HIS" and that's like...now I don't fully know because MAYBE this is a slipup on Brennan's part? It COULD be! I don't fully know. But I don't think that it is considering that Baron does have a "stark FATHER" which I assume is also in reference to the Nightmare King. Father being another term used under "He/Him".
So, then I went to go back to the mystery voice again that we heard at the end of episode 5 "Mall Madness".
And the mystery voice who I ASSUME is this "Ankarna".
This voice says, and I QUOTE: "SHE is at my side once more."
"Do you wish for divinity?"
"I shall give you a master you deserve."
There was ALSO RED, CRACKLING LIGHT when he opened that portal that "YES" came out of!!! 0_0
The voice continues to say to Kristen: "I am coming for you. And when I find you, I will break you in a way that none who loved you will recognize the ruin I have wrought. Lean your soul in closer, that I might give you more than words."
So this Ankarna seems to be VERY hostile with Kristen! If this is Ankarna speaking! Which, I ASSUME IT IS considering that Cassandra is BACK at their side! I don't want to assume Ankarna's pronouns. But, Cassandra is back at their side and when Kristen heard that voice, she said she wanted to try to mentally link with Cassandra but this is the voice she ended up hearing instead.
But what's a bit puzzling to me about this is how Baron refers to the Nightmare King/Cassandra as "He/Him" and Baron also mentions his "stark FATHER"! Another implication here of Baron using "He/Him" when talking about Cassandra.
But then Ankarna uses She/Her when talking about Cassandra.
I mean...it could be that Cassandra is gender fluid and goes by every pronoun??? It's just something I find to be interesting.. again...not any theory but just a cool observation that I've made. 😁
I'm trying to think about more theories as the show goes on but that's all I have for right now! 😂🤣💀
If I get another lightbulb moment, I'll post about it later! 😂🤣👏

Hi girl20, i saw your post and safe travels to you! I've got a few asks, hopefully one or more will resonate :) What other specific hand movements do you think Tissaia has for specific situations? Habits, (un-)learned, magical or otherwise? Talking to nobles vs students vs staff?Since Anya said she tried to incorporate more of her heritage (dance iirc), how similar do you think Yennefer and Tissaia's magic wielding is?
Anya has talked about incorporating elements of Indian dance into Yennefer's magic wielding this season, yes. Which makes it very elegant and pretty to watch.
It's hard to say, with Tissaia, since we've hardly seen her do any proper magic. My whole thing with Tissaia revolves around her control, and part of that is using her hands to keep her magic 'holstered'. I talked about that a bit in this post.
Tissaia's default position is to have her hands linked at her waist. We also see her hold onto tables, or clench her fists - all ways to keep her hands occupied and not ready to cast.
This got long, and also doesn't answer your question!! It just turned into 'let's watch Tissaia do magic'.
When we have seen her do magic, it seems effortless.
Tumblr media
The most we see herself exert herself in season 1 is also the sexiest scene in the entire show™
Tumblr media
But the rest of the time, she needs minimal movement or effort.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She seems not to need her hands to call a portal.
Tumblr media
I've always said that Fringilla dosing Tissaia with dimeritium wasn't as effective as it could have been because we hadn't seen what Tissaia was capable of. Neither did we know what she planned to do at the battle. She hadn't used her powers during the battle, so we could maybe assume she was saving herself to be the last resort (which turned out to be Yennefer) but none of that is clear in the narrative of the episode. If we knew Tissaia was the 'big gun', then we'd have been more affected by her being taken out of the game. But we didn't. We just had to assume that this was a much reduced version of what Tissaia was capable of.
Tumblr media
In season 2, despite everyone thinking that Tissaia would likely be without her magic due to severe dimeritium poisoning, we see her do more impressive magic in the first episode than we have in the whole of season 1.
On the battlefield she's reading the last memory/sight of dead soldiers - again, with no effort. (I'm led to believe this is a fairly high level spell/power/idk what we call it)
Tumblr media
Then we see her do healing magic, which again we kind of assumed she could do because she prevented Yennefer from dying when she attempted suicide. This seems to be taking effort from Artorius, but we don't really see Tissaia strain, even though Vilgefortz feels the need to join in.
Tumblr media
And then comes the torture scene, where Tissaia zaps (idk the technical terms) Cahir without blinking, causing searing pain.
Tumblr media
It's not really clear whether the strain we see on her face when she actually sticks her fingers into his head is because the magic is difficult, or because she's barely restraining her rage. (I think it's the latter, personally)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then we do see her do fancy things with her hands for magic, but it's because she's carving letters. I don't know if we can take this as an indication of her casting habits/stance because she's doing calligraphy, basically. But it's the most elegant we've seen her magic look. (And it confirms that she is not left-handed)
Tumblr media
Just because her hesitation before she writes Yen's name kills me...
Tumblr media
Again, when she's getting rid of the tablet (is she going to do another one?? Or is she not bothered now that Yen is back) we see an elegant use of her hands.
Tumblr media
And then the last bit of magic we really see her do is when she blasts Stregobor away from Yen.
Tumblr media
We see Yen do a similar thing when she gets the big monster thing and Francesca away from Ciri.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But I think that might be the only comparable thing we've seen them do?
So, to answer the question, I don't really know that we've seen Tissaia use magic in the same ways we've seen Yennefer use it (i.e. in battle, to make an escape etc) so it's hard to judge the similarities. Tissaia's magic seems effortless and utlititarian. Elegant at times, but not showy.
With Yennefer we often see strain and effort, when she's using magic, and we see her do it a lot more often.
I think we do see Yennefer start to mirror Tissaia's stance in season 2 when she's with Ciri, but more in posture and how she holds her hands than in magic.
I assume after the second half of season 3 we'll have seen Tissaia do some big magic, so maybe we can revisit this then.
(Also, if I've forgotten any bits of Tissaia doing magic, please feel free to point them out - these were off the top of my head)

Imagine Meeting DMC 2 Dante
So, I finally got around to playing DMC 2 and Dante is so much more stoic in that game than he is in any of the others. He doesn't talk much and is just a very serious lad compared to the other games where he is the wacky woohoo pizza man.
Capcom trying to make him this way didn't hit too much and I'm sure the rest of the fandom can agree from what I've seen from other reviews.
This isn't where this post is getting at tho.
Seeing Dante more like Vergil in this game had me thinking.
What if this is the Dante you met?
Imagine having baby Nero, walking around Redgrave, and seeing the white-haired man. He's in red so you know it's not the man you met a few years back but maybe he's at least related. It couldn't hurt to check, right?
So you walk up to him and he doesn't say anything but he does notice Nero. And Dante immediately thinks that the boy is his. And he's confused and a little scared. He wasn't made to be a father, especially not with the life he lives.
So he tries to let you down easily and leave the situation as soon as possible. He tries until you say, "I watched you go the first time, I can't let you go again. Please, even if you aren't him, I need someone related to him. Nero needs his family and I'm the only one."
And Dante realizes you are Vergil's mate and this was Vergil's offspring, Dante's kin. And a protectiveness washes over him and he instantly feels the need to protect you, the boy, and kick Vergil's ass the next time he sees him, no matter the man's condition.
So with a few words, Dante takes you back to the DMC building and gives you one of the upstairs spare rooms, and helps you take care of Nero. He tells you about Vergil and their family and in turn, you tell Dante about how you and Vergil met and about his new nephew.
He helps you raise the boy as he becomes the moody, sarcastic hotheaded teen we see in DMC 4. And at some point Nero does ask about his father and you both tell him and he still hates Vergil just as much as he does in DMC 5.
And seeing Dante become this light-hearted, wacky man over the years kind of helps soothe you and you could see yourself living the rest of your life helping Dante with his business, even if it's just as his financial advisor.
And when Dante and Nero go on their mission in DMC 5 and Dante finds out it's his brother behind all this, that battle at the top of the Qliphoth is much more heated and Vergil can tell this is something more than just getting back at his brother for opening a portal to hell and trying to become the ruler.
So when they're walking through hell, Vergil has to ask. "I know there is more to this than our old rivalry."
Dante hums. "Yeah, it is."
"Enlighten me then brother." "Nero, he's yours." "I thought we established that already?"
Dante chuckles. "Yeah but not about his mother."
Vergil looks at his brother curiously. "Is she alive?" "Very much so. She's been staying with me since we were 30. She came to me on the streets, begging me to stay thinking I was you. She's quite the woman, Vergil, I can't believe you let her go."
Vergil hums, nodding.
You will always be grateful for Dante letting you in and helping you out. And Dante will always feel like he's in debt to you even if it should be the other way around. Because you are his family, and he will do anything and everything to make sure you never end up like the lost woman who came begging for his love and approval all those years ago.

20 Questions For Fic Writers
Thanks for tagging me @marley-manson! <3
I would tag people but it's late and my brain is tired so literally, PLEASE just adopt this tag meme if you see it and read the whole thing. You have my full permission to say I tagged you, even if we've never spoken lol. Go for it, be audacious.
1. How many works do you have on Ao3?
Tumblr media
2. What's your total Ao3 word count?
43,487!
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Well the posted fic is a Berserk fic, but I have various other wips that I pick away at when I'm bored. Among them include Eyeshield 21, MDZS, RotE, Harry Potter (technically?). Those are the most recent ones anyway.
4. What are your top five fics by kudos?
Chain of Dissent, she's my favorite fic <3 (she's my only fic)
5. Do you respond to comments?
Yeah I try to! Though I'll admit uhhhh I haven't updated it in... fucking? two years? god, and so I've been bad about responding to the more recent comments because I feel guilty for not updating in so long :') Really gotta get back to it.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
None, because I haven't finished a fic yet lol
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Tumblr media
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Not so far! I've gotten a couple of comments that come across as unintentionally mildly rude, but definitely nothing that constitutes as hate.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Well not so far in CoD, but, ahem, I have written smut in one of my wips lol. Deeply self indulgent but I guess character driven? It's mildly nasty and desperate <3
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
I haven't actually written a crossover (yet. well, recently) but they are a bit of a passion of mine lmao. I love ridiculous crossovers, and I'm talking about "a magical portal opens up and throws characters from fandom A into the world (& characters) of fandom B" type shit. I don't need the ways in which the characters interact to make sense, I just want them to be thrown together and see where it goes from there. Fish out of water shenanigans! Characters questioning their own motivations and idea of life by seeing a world entirely different from theirs!! Just like, fun shit! I also absolutely don't need for the two fandoms to be similar lol. I have a somewhat detailed Berserk/Eyeshield 21 crossover living rent free in my head so clearly anything goes.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I'm aware of.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Lol no.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Nope!
14. What’s your all time favorite ship?
I'll probably have to say GriffGuts, because it's a ship that's gripped me by the neck for the past 7 years or something, where my interest in it hasn't really waned.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
Uhhhh, idk? I mean I am DETERMINED to finish CoD, so that's out. And the wips I write in my spare time are just like, things I do for fun where I don't put any pressure on myself over it. I'm not planning on posting them anywhere, and I'm not generally planning on 'finishing' them either. I mean if I do finish one, I might post it, but again, they're low key things that I'm not taking too seriously.
16. What are your writing strengths?
Hm. I honestly don't consider myself a very strong writer, at least in terms of things like prose and sentence structure, grammar, that sort of thing. I think I'm pretty decent at figuring out the direction that I want the story to go, and all the individual steps that need to happen to get to that point in a way that feels organic (at least, imo.) And I like to think I'm pretty good at characterization-- having the characters behaving and reacting in ways that feel like could concievably happen in canon is generally what I'm going for.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Yeah prose, lol. I mean, I don't actually dislike my more.... utilitarian writing style, mainly because I generally prefer reading more direct writing (unless the lyrical writing is really really good), but I do think I could inject some more illustrative details and metaphors into my writing overall. @marley-manson is SO good at coming up with perfect metaphors to describe a situation or feeling, all while perfectly recreating the character's voice, and I really admire that about her writing!
I also want to get better with having characters like, doing things while they're talking. I find a lot of the conversations I write happen between characters just kind of standing around, which obviously is fine but I'd like to construct scenes with a bit more specificity in the future.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
Wait so like, say in a fic that is otherwise written in English, having a line of dialogue written in Spanish when a character is speaking it? I... don't have strong feelings about it one way or the other I guess lol. I mean ideally the line(s) written in the other language are correct lol, and not just badly google translated or something.
Though you know, now that I think about it, I feel like it would work best between languages that use the same alphabet (which does end up narrowing the possible languages down quite a lot) because that way the reader can still sound out the dialogue even if the don't understand the language, which could emulate what the pov character is experiencing. Whereas if it was a fic written in English, and then had a line written in, say, Japanese, the reader wouldn't even be able to sound it out so it's kind of a brick wall. (Unless there's footnotes, but that tends to be a little more clunky in fic than in a published book with pages).
If the readers are supposed to understand the dialogue written in another language, like two characters suddenly start speaking in said other language and we're meant to keep up with the conversation, then I feel like it's just easier to translate their words in whatever language the fic is written in otherwise.
But yeah idk, I think with intent and good execution, anything can work, but it could also be done in a way that's more annoying than anything.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
I think. It was neopets LMFAO. I remember writing a fic when I was like 10 about Hannah (the adventurer) and Jacques (from the maraqua plot comic) as a romantic couple because I was annoyed at the time that there were multiple fics about Hannah and Garin (or whatever his name was, also from the maraqua plot) getting together even though I thought Garin was BORING and they were just shipped together because they were both usuls (which are overrated imho), even though Jacque was obviously better.
... I may have had a crush on Jacques.
But the first fic that I think I posted anywhere was for Xiaolin Showdown lmfao, probably also when I was 10 or 11 or something. I wrote like four separate fics for that show.
20. Favorite fic you’ve written?
Yeah it's CoD lol. It's the longest thing I've written so far, and I'm overall still very proud of it. I'd probably go back and change some things in the first chapter because it reads a little clunky and like, abrupt to me now, but I'm not doing that until I finish the fic. Allowing myself to go back and edit stuff before I've even finished the story seems like a road to ruin lol.

A bit of a long post. There's a tldr at the end but I highly request you to read this thing because this is a realisation that hit me like a ton of bricks:
I've been slowly catching up with Blades (I'm in Chapter 5 so far) and the Watcher mentions something interesting about Valax.
When MC asks if Valax could trace them through their blood, the Watcher replies "Yes. They would have gained enough of your blood in a year". This is also in conjunction with what Kade says about time moving the same in the Shadow Realm. It got me thinking about what really happened and how to MC, it felt like a couple of hours, but to everyone it seems like a year.
And how quickly MC was to escape as well. There was no shock from Valax. There was no surprise that MC had escaped. There was only resentment and mild frustration, which kind of makes me speculate that Valax was so sure of getting MC's blood that even if they did escape, she was certain she could find them. Which is what happens in Ch 4.
Either MC had to be in some sort of magically induced coma or slumber. Even then, wouldn't they have been drained from all that loss of blood? I'm not sure about Elves and Orcs but human!MCs would be dead tired after that. They wouldn't be able to conjure up a portal, let alone think or even wield magic of sorts. But they do.
I could be so wrong on this, but what if there was a unique kind of magic only to realm-walkers? We know the Light magic and how it drains Nia. We know of the Elven magic and how Tyril was born with heightened senses. We know how Imtura uses strength to wield power and though Mal might not possess magic, he definitely knows stealth. Each of the magic-wielding Party members all have a unique magic associated with them and all have their merits and demerits.
What if MC has their own sort of branch of magic but it warps time instead? It sounds outlandish and could have already been discussed but maybe just like how Light magic drains life force, what if this Realm-walker magic warps time? And by closing portals, they are essentially causing time to just sort of convulse and build up before exploding?
There have been some interesting theories about the Watcher being the villain and it makes sense. The Watcher was put in power by the Old Gods to keep watch of the realms. He has no say and he can only guide people. Perhaps he was waiting for a realm-walker to come by and wants to get his own power - have a say, be a God himself and for that, he needs to bring about destruction of everything. Start afresh. Be the only survivor and harness magic and construct a new world order. Maybe he sees the fault in things - he's always sided with MC, helping them out.
What if they pull an Endless Summer and just end all of time and space and everything that existed? Because the Light gained too much power within its own realm and the Shadow did the same from MC closing all the portals, stopping magic from "flowing through" if that makes sense and it is all just stuffed to the brim, and with war and discord, the magic is either totally wiped out like in Lord of the Rings - where the Elves construct beautiful kingdoms from the power given to them by the rings and once they're destroyed, their magic starts to fade away and them as well.
What if the realm-magic is the glue holding everything together? And that there are many more realms and it isn't black and white, like Light and Shadow and there's more shades of grey. And with MC following the Watcher's orders to keep their friends safe, they are actively causing the destruction of the universe?
The Watcher can take them anywhere - from Whitetower to wherever Tyril was battling that creature in Chapter 2. Maybe he's taking them to these pinpoints. The Deadwood portal in Chapter 4, that he mentions, was a crucial land area which was originally called Whimsywood before the war.
What if the war wasn't about good versus evil at all? What if Xaius wasn't fighting against the shadow forces, willingly and it was the Watcher who whispered things into his ear - what if he was a realm-walker too and that winning this war would mean banishing the shadow creatures down a portal and having the rifts around, but Xaius eventually loses a battle with his morals and beliefs and is wiped out, only for the Watcher to look for another realm walker?
Someone young and new, someone gullible enough to do everything for good, someone who not only has power but has a close relationship with powerful allies (Imtura is literally the daughter of an Orc empress/pirate, Tyril is a lord of an Elven house, Nia is a Priestess of Light and Mal is a professional thief who is also a famed adventurer).
It's a lot to be thinking from Chapter 4 alone, but I'm just going to put it out there for speculation and whether:
Realm-walkers end up consuming time (the Watcher specifically says "it takes a lot of time and effort" which can be interpreted literally as well) and end up dilates time which explains why MC was so confused as to why everyone thought they were missing for a year.
Whether the Watcher wants to control the whole of Time, since it is a very popular fantasy trope.
Whether they're willingly walking into a death trap and Valax has been right all along - they need to have MC die to restore world order.
And more speculations about MC's birth, because if this is indeed a chosen one trope, I have no doubt there's something that MC's parent would have done that caused this or something that happened during MC's birth that made everything fall into ordered chaos.

I've thought it through, and I'm not really sure when I'm going to pick NHFOM back up.
I really wanted to see it through, but if I'm being honest, it was a project I started during a point in time where I was feeling 100% myself (both mentally and artistically) 2022 really slonked my shit stupid style, and recovering from all the trauma and misery has been a long loooong journey for me. Trying to revisit it now, while I still love the characters and the AU I built up around it, has been really complicated for me. On one hand I still think the material holds up, but on the other hand I've really lost a lot of the jokes and I've been struggling to connect with them. (maybe it's the depression, maybe its maybelline)
While I've been doing a lot better in this year, 2023, the further I move away from NHFOM the more I feel a bit alienated from it? I'm not sure how to describe it, it feels more like an obligation rather than something I'm excited to do.
That's all to say, is that I'm going to post the outline I had written back in 2021 for the first chapter of NHFOM. I might still pick this back up, but it feels weird to let it just rot in my google docs, unread and unloved. So if you're curious as to what Link and Ganondorf get up to, it'll all be under the cut. NOTE: The way I write comic outlines is VERY bare bones. These are mostly quick ideas and lack any sort of dialogue/structure outside of general pacing and ideas.
NO HYRULE FOR OLD MEN
Aryll’s Birthday:
Link convinces Ganondorf to allow him to send a letter to Aryll for her birthday.
The Soup:
Link tries to recreate his Grandma’s soup, destroying Ganondorf's kitchen in the process.
Heroes Clothes:
Ganondorf convinces Link to dress in Time’s clothes. They do not even remotely fit.
Link of the Past:
Ganondorf and Link drinking and reminiscing over OOT events, Link is trying to play along.
Thank god they’re both trashed.
The Bandana:
Ganondorf reprimands Link for being so careless about his appearance and asks him to get a haircut.
It’s revealed that Link has MPB and Ganondorf shares a culturally significant hairstyle w/ him in solidarity.
Miniblin:
Link befriends a Miniblin? I don’t have a joke for this one, it’s just cute.
Ganondorf’s Day Out:
Link discovers the portal Ganon uses to teleport between worlds, he follows him in disguise and learns about his “secret hideout”
Therapy:
Ganondorf is having his monthly therapy session with a bokoblin, distressing over Link and contemplating why he’s different now.
Link is fishing naked w/ Miniblin
Helmaroc King:
Aryll discovers that Helmaroc King loves fish and forms a bond with the giant bird. She breaks a deal to send letters to Link once in a while in exchange for a tuna.
The Boat:
Link notices a weird red boat with a face hanging out around the tower. He and miniblin decide to take it for a joyride.
Hero in Training:
Sick of his devil-may-care personality, Ganondorf convinces Link to take up some serious training. Link immediately throws his back out upon lifting a mock master sword.
Princess Zelda:
Upon learning more about the Triforce, Link purposely misleads Ganondorf in his quest to locate the third Triforce…Because he doesn’t want to move out.
The Desert:
Ganondorf recites his “my country lay in a vast desert” speech. Link interrupts to ask what a desert is.
Family Dinner:
Link makes dinner, Ganondorf is late and Link chews him out for his lack of appreciation towards him.
Ganondorf feels bad and surprises him with breakfast in bed. (this one is just gay)
Daddy Issues:
Ganondorf inquires about Link’s family, Link reveals that he never had a father and was raised by his grandmother. Link is surprised to find out they both have that in common.
The Boat Pt. 2:
King of Redlions stressing to Jabun that he thinks he may have discovered the Hero Reborn who has since been captured by the Demon King himself. Also tries to explain that…maybe it’s okay actually.
Cutaway to Ganondorf and Link playing a drinking game?
Aryll’s Visit:
It’s Link’s birthday this time, and Helmaroc King has a surprise planned for Link on Aryll’s behalf.
She reprimands him for still not changing his outfit.
Queen of Pirates:
Following rumours of a sunken kingdom, a mysterious Pirate Queen finds herself lost in Hyrule. Link scrambles to get her to leave, but she threatens to return and rob him and his ghostly king blind.
Minitime:
Link doing some introspection, discussing w/ Miniblin that, even though he’s evil…Maybe Ganondorf isn’t all that bad?
General Malaise:
Ganondorf has locked himself in his room for far too long, Link busts in to give him a heavy hitting pep talk.
Poetry Night:
It’s poetry night in the Tower, and everyone has something to share. Link prepares something that leaves Ganondorf legitimately moved.
Blinded with Science:
Ganondorf tries some new spells out to see if he can relieve Link of his triforce…prematurely. It does not work.
Accidentally Holding Out For A Hero:
Link follows Ganondorf to his hideout again to find the place besieged by the Pirate Queen’s crew. Link accidentally does something heroic to keep Ganondorf from harm and Tetra out of his grasp.
Streetwise Hercules:

The Duel:
Ganondorf approaches Link and passes him a note that says: “Do you wanna spar? Y/N”
The Duel Pt.2:
Link and Ganondorf find themselves evenly matched, both exhausted from age and lack of physical activity. Link convinces Ganondorf to join him in his weekly training sessions w/ Phantom Ganon.
The Duel Pt. 3:
Ganondorf joins tennis and finds the activity to be actually kind of fun and quite the workout. Admits he might not have given Phantom Ganon enough credit and offers him an additional day off from his duty.
The Outfit:
Aryll sends Link a new outfit, Ganondorf finds it to be too titillating and begs Link to change back.
The Nightmare:
Ganondorf is plagued with bad dreams and has difficulty falling asleep, Link offers him a homemade remedy, Grandma certified. (It’s 1:5 warm milk and rum)
The Boat Pt.3:
King of Redlions approaches Tetra, he has devised a plan to “rescue” Link from the demon king but he needs her help.
Miniblin Musing:
Link, playing with miniblin, asks Ganon where these things come from anyway. “I am not explaining the Dark World to you right now.”
Namesake:
Link has to explain that “Link” is just a really common hylian name. Some famous dead guy or something.

Rating the infamous TOH comics +2 that I wanted to add cause I'm fucking bored and I've been procrastinating this post for nearly a month now
If you are uncomfortable with NSFW related content or the following under here
The word "porn" alot
Incest
Pedophilia
Then please do not click on this, for legal reasons obviously I won't show you any pictures from any comics that included the minor version of the cast, if your morbid curiosity wants to search these up then so be it, it's very easy to find any of these comics, do not blame me for this or this post if you get traumatized by seeing teenagers fucking each other, that's on you pookie 😜
Sup! If any of that shit doesn't phase you then let's dive right in! This list is from the least graphic to the most graphic, it's of all the 3 most "traumatizing" TOH porn comics but I've discovered few more that are WAAAY more traumatizing, and like I said, no graphic images, just the banner/title card for the comic
5. Bubble bath made by Kimchi on Twitter
Tumblr media
This isn't the banner since I've looked fucking everywhere for it but I couldn't find any, just thought I add it cause it's made by Kimchi and the comic has Gus and Hunter in it
Synopsis: Gus sneaks into the bathroom as Hunter takes a bath, seemingly wanting him to be his mentor for learning about puberty, sex, and porn
Rating: 5/10
This is the most tamest comic even though most people claim it to be traumatizing, it's suppost to be upsetting, I know that, but unfortunately for you I'm not so phased or "traumatized" by porn so it's getting a five, and also the whole comics in black and white so it's very hard to make out what position they're in, even though there is a colored version, which would still make me rate it a five no matter what, and unlike the others in this list the proportions of their penises are actually realistic, or at least not huge as most comics would make them look like
4. First Night Together by Namy Gaga
Tumblr media
The history of me finding this comic is fucking bizarre, but I'll try to shorten it, basically, me, trying to find crossover art, found art, I look in account, scroll down, person posted CP of lumity (censored ofc), scroll down more, posted censored version of the comic, dumbass forgot to put one panel, the account was supposedly old and they took down all the posts
Synopsis: After the events if kkoht (Knock Knock on Hootys Door) Luz and Amity are dating, but Luz gets stressed over her mom, the echo mouse, and the portal door, Amity tries to calm down Luz with a kiss, but she gets horny instead
Rating: 6-7/10
Definitely a step into more graphic comic, it's not super graphic but just gross, this one specifically is the most infamous of the three, and there's really not that much, just like the bubble bath, Amity and Luz aren't sexualized and have decent proportions with their breasts, maybe a bit bigger but I'm not sure how fucking large 14 y/os breasts are supposed to be on average
3. My Luz by Danger Art on Patreon + one of the extra comics
Tumblr media
This first and last one sadly that Luz and Amity are actually adults
Synopsis: Amity is frustrated that she can't fully turn into her abomination form and it's her 19th birthday, her and Luz both contemplate breaking up due to collage, until Luz catches Amity masturbating while bathing
Rating: 7/10
Not gonna lie pretty graphic, nothing too gross but just serviceable, also once Amity turns into her abomination she grows a dick??? What the fuck 💀💀, and also the synopsis for this was actually really cool and so was the comic itself, the proportions where a bit iffy for this but it's forgiveable
2. The Veenter secret by Ruddyrzaq on Patreon I think?? Not sure really where they posted it
Tumblr media
What bugs me the most is at the top in VERY small font it says the characters are fictional and over the age of 18 even though this takes place during TTT (thanks to them) which they are still MINORS, just gives me icky vibes, and it's also supposedly revenge porn...not sure bout that really
Synopsis: Amity leaves Hunter and Vee in the shack to clean up as she, Gus, and Willow search Gravesfield for clues, Vee confesses to Hunter about having a crush on him and they both get horny
Rating: 8/10
This is truly disgusting, the first time I was gonna read it it was on my computer, it bugged a bit, SHIT JUMPSCARED ME WITH NAKED VEE, couldn't touch my computer for like three days, anyways, ended up reading it, VERY GRAPHIC, really did a full 180 not gonna lie, and it also has some like, borderline lesbianohobia, cause in the end Vee shapeshifts into Amity (for some context Vee wanted to do roleplay sex and shape shifted into Luz, Willow, and Amity) and Amity's a lesbian...even if it's Vee is just really gross to think about it, and yeah, do not recommend this piece of shit, also there's another one called The Amiter secret, even though it has nothing to do with Hunter x Amity, I couldn't find the full comic except some panels of it on google, and I'm not wasting my time to download Patreon so it's on them not me, and it oversexualized Hunter and Vee so yeah...
1. 15 minutes in heaven made by Nsfani on I'm not sure where actually, I found this on NovelCrow so maybe there? + one of the extra comics
Tumblr media
I. Hate. This. Comic
Synopsis: Eda gets fed up with running away so she let's Lilith capture her for the coven, under one circumstance, she has to spend 15 minutes in heaven
Rating: 1000000/10
I FUCKING HATE THIS WHERE DO I BEGIN?!! okay, not only are they oversexualized, IT'S INCEST?? it's basically just incest porn, Eda somehow has a dick as well, and there's this weird part that Eda straight up starts fucking herself, NOT EVEN JOKING THIS COMIC IS SO GRAPHIC I DON'T EVEN WANNA SHOW IT EVEN IF I WANTED TO, and it's like super kinky and Eda fucking fists Lilith, ew, it's just gross and graphic
And that is it my Ladies, Bros, Not Binary folks, I'll do myself a favor and bleach my eyes cause these where painful to read and their entirety

Little Nightmares 3 event. Re occurring enemy.
I'm saying this for myself at this rate. From Youtube, to here a lot of people, and Little Nightmares fans are still depicting Six to be evil, and to become a villain. She's this one character that had turned evil. Or 'Evil.' Because of her dark magic.
That's because that's her story. But each kid has his, or her story. And another kid, with how it would be told. would turn evil too. Mentioning the Pretender, she turned out to be an evil child.
She was spoiled, and entitled. And she wanted to gather a collection, by kidnapping/Loring children into her palace, and collect them as dolls.
Or she turns them into dolls, but that's the speculation theory. And before that in Pale city, Six actually had a friend. The pretender went after the rain coat girl, or the RK girl.
And Six tried to help her. She is speculated to be the girl, found in the photograph, with the short black hair, and the white clothing, with the white underpants looks like to be Six. And Six appears in the same clothes from the VLN game, as the photo that shows her white clothing.
Furthermore, with her detail with her white clothing. You do see them, her wearing them from her sweat suit, or under her raincoat. That her shorts are still visible.
After when Six defeats the Pretender, she accidently knocks her best friend off. Ever since the ending of LN 2, is when people got into a riot.
Including myself. I even thought that if she didn't care about Mono, then she's a bitch. But, another Little Nightmares Fan drew a comic based on the ending, that gave me another point of view. It's posted on DA, all credit goes to her:
Another look at the final. by Nis-Little-Arts on DeviantArt
The Image looks like this:
Tumblr media
Now, even though this is a head cannon of hers, but it is based on the final ending. This is her illustration of 'Let's take another look.' But, the speculation with Six being the Lady. It's all up to speculation. (I don't think so really.) But yeah...It's been around for a while.
Okay, so this was posted 4 years ago. At first, I thought it was three. Then I remembered that it's 2024. But, as you can see, is that each character is shown with respect.
No one is good, no one is evil, it's just showing their character arc, and their story, In a very tragic and poetic kind of way. That shows their friendship, and their romantic relationship portrayed from the past, to the future. And it continues on in the cycle.
It looks like they're pulling away, but they can't go anywhere. What pisses me off about this, for a number of reasons, but this one in particular when they're saying, 'It's her FAULT! She started this!'
And yes, I did drop a comment, stating on Youtube that she did start this horrible loop. That was years ago, too.
By the looks of it, but now looking back on it. You see that the signal tower is looking to be supernatural itself. She was responsible for letting him go down there. To say, if she started the Loop herself. Not then to say, it was the Signal tower that started it.
But, since that had been said enough times, especially with the 'Long live the king!' Joke, is repetitive, and annoying. I will add, if she did not care about Mono, I think she was not using him, just to satisfy her fulfillment.
Another thing that annoys me, is that some people say that she absorbed Mono's powers, to get through the TV. When the portal was already open? Sorry, I have to say something about this. I've been wanting to for ages.
Again this statement was so quick to judge, with no given context but to say that she's a leech, and she took his powers to survive.
But, from the first game, when she is trying to survive in the Maw, there is no details to fill in the blanks, of why she couldn't just teleport away, needing to reclaim the Lady's powers, to make herself powerful again.
But, even still...The blame is all on her. This was her scheme, she didn't care. Where, if anything else, this just does not make sense to me. And it sound not right, for her to do that to her friend. When Mono could harness those powers to a great extent.
And that, included when she pulled him up, multiple times, where I feel she doesn't have much credit for. Who are we to say, that she took his powers when, it isn't proven yet.
Or when they use that short cutscene as 'Evidence' to say that she did, but it's only a very short cutscene. But, it still isn't enough evidence to prove, if she has done or not.
Lastly, the villain thing. I think why most people want her to show up again, as the villain is because they see her as one. I do not want her to be. I genuinely think that by saying it, is still farfetched. Or over the top, because, she is a child.
Okay, if your statement stay's on this cliche. I'll say then...Is because she does not behave like that. She isn't here to conquer the world.
She isn't here to make all the other children's lives a living hell. She's only here to tell us a story. If you think that the is the only evil child, then she is not the only one.
For her to become a villain, and give her a goal because she want's to conquer something, is just throwing an idea or wishful thinking onto her, tossing it onto her and say.
"Make her a villain." because of how she appears to be. It's also forgotten that she is not the only kid in that world, that the other kids are going through.
She prefers to stay away from them, because she is aware of what she could do to them. But she is just as vulnerable as everyone else.
I've watched a quick video that I'm glad that someone has said this, it's unpopular. This video, is from it's Just Jord, and he explains that every child is in this world for themselves. He explains more details, so I'll give the link:
This basically summarizes that, for what every kid is going through. No kid is good, no kid is evil. But, each of those kids have a story to tell, and they are going through it. Including Six. Which gives another reason why I think, that Six shouldn't be the villain, is because of this.
All because, all of her arc, isn't enough make it permanent-she's the villain. She is also being tormented, and a victim as well. Just like the other protagonists.

THEORY TIME!!
(I made a post about the candidates for Luz's palisman that I reblogged, so go check that out if you're interested!)
God where do I even BEGIN? Okay first, it is most likely that King's parent IS the titan that makes up the Boiling Isles; 1) because titans are very powerful creatures and they probably need time to develop in the egg, 2) because of what happened in the episode, 3) because King is supposedly "the lost son of the Boiling Isles", 4) the main reason people don't agree with this theory is because the Boiling Isles would've had to been made before King was born because he needed a place to hatch, but what I think is that the island King was born on ISN'T attached to the Boiling Isles. He could've been born AND THEN his father could've died, creating the Boiling Isles.
What I also wanted to say was about the rebellion. Hexside would most likely be apart of it. After Labyrinth Runners, Hunter told them all what happened, and they would all would want to rebel and stop the Day of Unity. CATTs (Covens Against The Throne) now has more rebels. Darius, Eber, Eda, Luz, King, Lilith and Steve.
(Also I just want to say that Steve looks so good and I was SO not expecting him to remove his mask—)
So they have an entire school, a runaway Golden Guard, a coven scout, three coven heads, the BATTs, the Owl Family and a titan on their side. Something tells me that this finale episode will be the most intense thing I will ever watch, and I watched Endgame.
Lets not even get STARTED on the fact that Gus is so immensely strong with his illusions he went into the avatar state.
Amity would most likely ask her dad to turn off the Abomitons for the Emperor's Coven and for them to create their own army of Abomitons.
I wonder if any of the other Golden Guards will come into play, or if Hunter will die and maybe come back alive?
Eda will cash in the favour from the Bat Queen and she'll help them rebel, and maybe the other lost palismen that the Bat Queen protects will also be apart of this? I'm not sure, but that whistle will come into play. Maybe a game changer.
Maybe they'll get the Collector on their side. King is still connected, and they seemingly want to talk to him? Also, we were right in our predictions that it was the Collector whispering in the background of Yesterday's Lie. They're in the interdimensional portal thing, except he's trapped there, just like how Luz could only be in the reflections of glass. The Collector almost begged for King to stay/not go in his dream, but he was woken up.
Now I have two theories about him and Luz. 1) Luz is gonna be possessed by the Collector and 2) Luz is gonna pretend to be possessed by the Collector.
I'm not sure which side the Collector is on. They're on the side of chaos, I know that for a fact, but why were they begging for King to stay? Is Belos using the fact that the Collector is presumeably bound to him to his advantage? Since we all know Belos is a shitty, selfish person. I personally think that the Collector is a neutral party.
I really hope we get a Darius and Hunter reunion. I also really hope that Bump will take Hunter as if he's his own student. I want to see Hunter and Luz coping with what they saw in Hollow Mind together, since that shit messed both of them up. She finds out that she was part of the cause of everything, and he finds out that he he's just a clone. A grimwalker. Hunter doesn't even know that much about Grimwalkers, and so after he settled down in Hexside, he started reading about them. Sad, really. I want them all to get some therapy, Steve said he knows a really good one.
Also, Steve's face reveal? That... was so strange. Like he is so adorable?? Like the horn??? And the hair?? AND THE FACE???? I like women but DAMN does he look mighty fine.
My brain juice hurts. I've been sat in a spot on my bed for an hour theorizing. I'm gonna stop it here. If you have any other theories, comment please!!

TOH #55
The good vibes continue back in the Owl House with Lilith patching up Hooty’s battle wounds. It’s adorable that Lilith even gave him his own nickname. Not as good as MY nicknames, but she’s trying.
(EDIT: That "TOH #50" is not supposed to be there. I accidentally copied it while copy n' pasting the text from the document where I wrote it into the tumblr post editor and then I didn't notice it until later. I've elected to let it remain though as a reminder of my failures. I don't have enough of those in my life.)
Tumblr media
I love this, this made me laugh. After all that hardship and trouble Lilith went through to make that scrying potion, it was not to get any strategical intelligence or information about the Emperor’s plans. No, it was so Eda could prank the guards.
I love this, because I feel like this implies that Eda has casually been pulling pranks on the castle guards for years, and Lilith has always been there to stop them because she knows how Eda thinks. But now, with Lilith gone? They won’t know what hit them!
Tumblr media
”Knock knock, human.”
Emperor Belly Boy here just had to have the last word, didn’t he?
Alright, let’s break this down.
In some secret room, Belos places the last piece of the eye from the portal Luz came through. It sparks a little. He turns to the camera and says his line.
First off, Belos isn’t wearing his mask at the beginning. He puts it on as he turns around so we don’t get to see his face. The question now of course is, why does he wear the mask? Is it to hide his identity? To conceal hideous disfigurement? I remember him using the essence of a palisman as eyedrops last season, I don’t imagine that’s too good for your skin. Oh, and we also get to see his hair and it looks kinda gross, I get why he’s hiding that.
Next, we shift focus towards the portal. I noticed almost immediately that this portal looks a lot different from the one we saw at the end of Young Blood, Old Souls. That portal was made from painted white metal and had large wings. This one is grey and lacks wings. This could just be an inconsistency, the creative team changing their mind about the design between seasons or such. Or it could be showing us the process of building the portal as experiments; the first prototype failed for whatever reason and this is version 2.0.
Either way, the Day of Unity is coming… and I still have no clue what the heck that means. Belos claims it is not a matter of invading the human realm or such. Considering he calls it ”Unity,” I’m thinking it may be more in line with either merging, combining or in some other way uniting the demon realm and human realm. Either by fusing them together into one or maybe connecting them through permanent portals. Or maybe he’s trying to get somewhere else; I remember seeing a theory shortly after Season 1 ended about Belos coming from a third realm, a realm of angels/divine beings. So this Day of Unity and hunt for the portal is him trying to get back home.
At this point I’m just spitballing ideas, hoping one of them is at least a little true so that I look really smart like all the actually good livebloggers.
Tumblr media
Oh, they’ve changed the outro quite a bit.
Tumblr media
Some cute images of our main cast and then there are these two. Showing Belos and the Golden Guard together, throwing more fuel on my apprentice theory. It’s interesting that Belos has his mask on, while the Guard is removing his…
Tumblr media
And that concludes Episode 1 of Season 2 of The Owl House. I’m gonna go back and watch the whole episode in one go (you know, like you’re supposed to) and then I’ll see if I have any final thoughts.
(one watchthrough later)
Alright, here are some details I missed:
•Luz still has the key to the portal. Maybe Belos will need it to activate his bigger version, which will lead him into conflict with the Owl House gang again?
•The statue of Belos we see at the marketplace has a crack on the head that look eerily similar to the one Luz made in his mask in Young Blood, Old Souls. Representative of how despite his efforts, his iron grip on the Boiling isles is beginning to crack thanks to Luz’ involvement?
•I somehow missed on my first watch that the boat captain gives Luz her sailor outfit, meaning she didn't choose to dress like that herself which I initially thought.
•The purple person the ship is as far as I recall the only other character in the show we’ve seen do the whole detaching limbs thing that Eda does. This prompts me to once again raises several questions. Can everyone on the Boiling Isles do this? If not, then what determines who can? Can Lilith do it?
•On my first watch I thought the adventure n the ship was some kind of elaborate set-up for a trap, mainly based on the nod the captain gave to the Golden Guard when Luz joined. But on my second watch I’m not so sure? Maybe it was just a coincidence that Luz & Eda happened to stumble across the same ship that the Golden Guard was on and he decided to make some Plot happen. If it wasn’t a trap, then it makes the captain’s fondness of Luz very endearing and yet another example of the positive influence Luz has on the demon realm.
•I like that they used the shadow trick Garlog used at the beginning of the episode to lure the Golden Guard.
I really liked this episode. It had some comedy, some character stuff, some action, some foreshadowing and some action. The one downside to having so much stuff in one episode is that you can’t really get that much of anything. It was really obvious just how fast-paced this episode was when I watched it normally without pausing every twenty seconds. But this being the first episode of the new season it is understandable, they have a lot to set up and establish before we can do any deep dives.
Overall, a good start to the second season and I’m excited to see what the rest has to offer!
I’ll see you again soon. Until then, take care of the planet Earth and remember that anything can happen in space!

David Allen headcanons
[Disclaimer: I have not watched Evil Dead (2013) and likely never will. What I HAVE watched is three or four youtube reactions/reviews for it and my sister has been playing David a bunch in Evil Dead the Game so I'm mostly going off of that.]
David smokes cigarettes. Like a lot. (Evidenced in game from how heavily he breathes even when he's not sprinting). He also has a lot of opinions about people who smoke: thinks people who vape are posers that can't handle a real cigarette, and that cigars are too expensive and not worth the money. He only smokes the cheapest brand he can find and doesn't mind switching to a different one if the price changes. Has personally smashed the glass on every cigarette machine he finds in game.
Hates sweets and never drinks sodas [until Knowby's spell dragged him along] or mixed drinks. Gags every time he has to drink a Shemp's but puts up with it for the good of the team. Honestly didn't know that Pink F contained drugs until Pablo tells him one day and from then on David side eyes anyone he sees running for a chest.
Has punched Scotty on more than one occasion after Scotty's made a pass at Mia.
Is always hanging around Mia even though she's still kinda standoffish to the point where everyone else keeps making incest jokes. David hates the jokes and gets really offended but Mia just rolls her eyes and says they're stupid.
Favorite items are the nail gun (duh) and the nailed bat. Hates the blunderbuss and thinks the syringes are in poor taste.
Whenever he is on the castle map the others have to yell at him to get into the car because he'll go on a huge rant about how poor condition all the cars are from dropping through the portal and insist on taking some time to fix them.
Is constantly cold but refuses to wear a jacket.
Likes talking about repairing stuff with the Blacksmith.
Likes hanging out with Mia, Blacksmith, and Pablo the most.
Literally cannot tell one Ash from another and doesn't want to try and figure it out either. He thought for the longest time that "El Jefe" was someone really cool because Pablo said so but when he found out it was Ash got really disappointed but kept it to himself.
Was initially resistant to hearing about "magic stuff" but respects Pablo's culture.
He suspects he and Mia might be distantly related to Annie once he found out the cabin belonged to her family but keeps that to himself because he finds Annie pretentious and doesn't want to spend more time with her than he has to.

Waiting in the Evil Dead lobby with my sister:
Me: I like it when I play Henry and you play Cheryl, we become Chenry! Or maybe Heryl?
My sister: Isn't Heryl the same as Cheryl without the C?

I'm so excited to get this skin when it comes out and I've been dying for a morning star weapon since the game come out. I wonder if this is the legendary version or if that one will look even more crazy. Henry's basic skin is still really good though so I'll just have to play him more often so I can switch between.
Also Henry's keep better be a location!!

I've been getting better at playing original Ash, and he's almost a perfect character for me because I can just spam heavy attacks that also heal people? Perfection. I also figured out that since the healing isn't based on damage done, faster attack weapons are better. I just wish I was better at getting headshots since so many of his abilities relate to that. I'm improving though. It's just nice to be playing a video game again and it doesn't hurt my hands too much.

@sonofrose had a good post about pacing earlier that I've been trying to put into words for a while. It's about the kind of show Amphibia is and what it shows on an episode-to-episode story. I want to spin off of that a little bit and talk about what Amphibia feels like it's written as to me.
Tumblr media
Amphibia is a "portal fantasy" story. In Japan, the name for this genre is "isekai", or "other world." These stories are structured in a very specific way, usually only deviating on a few story beats from author to author. They're all about escapist wish fulfillment.
Ordinary children are the heroes [...] Selected as the CHOSEN ONE, the ordinary child travels to another wold, grows wise and strong, overcomes trials and challenges, succeeds, & returns home. This so-called hero's round is a circular journey, ending where it began. - Michael O. Tunnell, Children's Literature, Briefly
- The Hero(es) find a way to another world that's challenged by Evil.
- The other world gives them powers, maybe a cool sword, and sometimes has a prophecy that says only the Heroes can defeat the Evil.
- The Heroes have a few setbacks, and then excel in what they do and defeat the Evil. The world is saved!
- The Heroes come back home, to Earth, and then the story ends.
There's a million stories that fit this description, blow by blow. Peter Pan, Chronicles of Narnia, The Phantom Tollbooth, Wizard of Oz, Inuyasha, Digimon, Sword Art Online... from classical fiction to current media, the list is very, very long. Most plots stay the same. Relying on those story beats means the author can expand on the points between them, detailing a world, characters, and unique plot twists that the author wants to communicate as they go without spending too much time with a challenging concept. And the key thing is: the adventure ends when the Chosen One comes home.
Portal fantasy is the rawest form of escapist wish fulfillment fiction that exists. It's a great story concept, the idea that other worlds exist and that fantastic adventures can happen if you only open the right door. Earth isn't interesting. The problems and boring reality of Earth is the starting and ending point, giving the protagonists a simple contrast with the magical adventures they're on. Earth sucks! School sucks! Parents suck! Learn to swordfight, fight evil and save the world! Then go home, return to the mundane - but remember that magic truly exists. It's a really solid plot and one we know and love as a culture.
From the start, Amphibia seems to be a classic portal fantasy. We're shown that Anne, who's thrown into this fantastical other world, can do wild feats of strength, and we learn she has a close friend from Earth locked up by an antagonist somewhere else. The story's clear from there- the Hero has to gain power, experience the world, and then go and rescue her friends and set up the Evil to defeat.
And then Sasha joins the bad guys, duels Anne and falls off Toad Tower.
That moment, the end of season 1, is where all the expectations and logic that Amphibia is just another portal fantasy is shaken. There's setbacks in the Hero's Journey, but in these stories, the children work together- they find the meaning of friendship, they fight Evil, they prevail. They don't spend most of the stories separated from each other and off doing their own thing.
Season 2 spends a lot of time restoring the audience's assumption that things will come back to a portal fantasy's version of normal. We're given the quest, the hints at a greater force with the prophecy and temples, and a Chosen One, finally, in Anne herself. The girls are brought back together and are finally working together! They're learning what friendship means. At that point, it's reasonable to think that Sasha's the antagonist of the series, which is a clever challenge to the basic idea of portal fantasy. The logic carries through, still- even though Sasha's planning to betray them, surely her restored relationship with the girls will give us the good ending after she's defeated and remembers the True Meaning of Friendship.
And then Marcy's secret is revealed.
Tumblr media
When Marcy thought she might have found a portal to a fantasy world, she was assuming she'd get that story we're all extremely familiar with- the trio would stay together, learn the meaning of friendship, keep traveling on "to new worlds, so we could have amazing adventures just like this one, forever and ever! Where we'd never have to grow apart, where the three of us could be together, forever!"
Anne and Sasha react in horror. It's brutal. It's a complete betrayal of their friendship.
And it's literally the pitch of any other portal fantasy story.
The world of Amphibia wasn't an escapist wish fulfillment fantasy. It's a real world, with real problems. But Marcy's speech isn't a mistake, and it's not a character flailing blindly. It's the pitch you'd expect when you start watching the show blind. "A child finds a magical portal to another world, goes there with her friends, and adventures with them, growing closer together as friends." It's the pitch Marcy herself would be very familiar with as a kid who read a lot of escapist portal fiction.
And it shows us exactly what the writers of Amphibia are trying to communicate with the show.
The original vision of this show was a lot grittier, a lot darker. [...] I really thought it would be super short. Almost one season, or half a season, like, super short. It made sense then that the tone was darker, grittier, and the story was able to resolve itself much faster. The story kind of ends with Reunion, like Anne and her frog family like "we're going to find a way out of here, I swear it", and that was all I had in my head when I first started pitching. And then obviously it blossomed into this much bigger thing. - Matt Braly, Cartoon Universe interview 2021 (emphasis mine)
Amphibia has always existed as a challenge and critique of the genre of isakei/portal fantasy. Braly's original concept was a story where the hero doesn't get to go home. It didn't end in the way you'd expect of that kind of story to end.
In the version of the show that we have, it does the same thing, in an opposite way. Anne goes back to Earth, the place where these stories end. And the story continues. Because it's not meant to be a portal fantasy. It's meant to be a story about Anne.
It makes perfect sense that the fandom thinks a lot about a version of the story that fits the classic beats of portal fantasy. We're all super familiar with it. It's a good structure of a story. We want to see the Calamity Girls work together, find the true meaning of friendship, and beat the Evil hand-in-hand before going home with a happy ending. That's not wrong of us. I personally love to exist in that space. It's a really rewarding one, with a lot of fun things that could happen.
But it's not the story Amphibia's interested in telling.
Amphibia doesn't care about the story beats of portal fiction. It doesn't care about the Hero's Journey. What it cares about is what is honestly one of the best reimaginings of a portal fantasy story that I've ever seen. The point of Amphibia's story is not that Anne is destined to fight some greater evil, or that Anne, Marcy and Sasha are meant to be the Chosen Ones. The point of Amphibia isn't the fate of a world in the face of an Evil that must be defeated by Good. The point of Amphibia is that Anne has a family who cares about her, and that she has a place to call home. That's the entire point of the story. Everything she does in the story is motivated by that simple thing. She's not meant to fight. She doesn't want to fight. Fighting hurts her, hurts her family, hurts her friends. It's not noble or heroic. The circumstances she's forced into to protect her family makes her pick up a sword, again and again. All she wants to do is protect them.
Amphibia is not a story about Amphibia. Amphibia is a story about Anne and the people who love her.
We're just along for the ride.

danny phantom, season 3 episodes 3-6 thoughts!
see prev episode thoughts in this tag <3
-johnny was actually pretty civil with danny and left when he asked! thats nice. also, SKULKER?? HAD A FRAMED PICTURE OF EMBER?? oooo fuck wait had they established they were a Thing Before?? I dont think so. thats weird. its like that country boy/goth girl meme lmfao. I think i am going to choose to ignore this new info and pretend I didnt hear it. 100% unrelated to the jazz/ember fanart I already drew and posted....😳
-LADIES NIGHT EPISODE THIS IS WHAT ITS ALL ABOUT. wish it didnt really center around the guys or them being pissed at them, but. willing to bet this was written by men lol
-THEY ERASED ALL THE MEN??? meanwhile, jack and danny are fishing at. silent hill or something. im glad jack is trying to read a parenting book and making an Attempt. (theyre at lake erie, but, they made it actually eerie...thats fun)
-the girls alt outfits...cute. EMBER MADE A NEW SONG TOO!!! kinda. jazz being one of the backup singers and being AWFUL. NOOOO
-'how are we going to get kitty to blow a kiss?' 'she'll have to think there are still some males in town!' ...i dont know how to break it to you, but I dont know that a 100% het girl would wish for all men to Begone. I think. I mean im not a het or a girl so I dont really know for sure. she Is probably Bi tho. esp having the other ladies in town chanting NO MEN!!! excitedly............(then again, the kiss is to get Rid of men, so, she probably would have blown it at the ladies only if they were actively trying to attack/stop them, so...I MEAN. THE DRESSING LIKE DANNY BIT WAS SO EXTRA)
-I feel like an all female cast ep couldve been way way way way cooler than that was. like. why was it still somehow all about Men. ...anyway. (where was valerie...)
-next ep opens with the observants, and, way way more of them than I expected...existed? I mean I guess them being a council/jury of some kind is what I expected from their first appearance (bc at that time they were basically TELLING clockwork to kill danny, not asking,, so I figured they had SOME kind of authority) but. there were so many. anyway, here goes vlad! letting his own hubris go brrrr. releasing a weather ghost for political gain! #justvladthings
-okay say what you will about him (he IS an asshole) but having an umbrella with his own face on it and more prepared to share is SUPER FUNNY. and him being fanned by huge wads of money by his bodyguards. SO ineffective but so Dramatic. He UNDERSTANDS that if youre rich you need to be. you know. obnoxious and kinda eccentric about it! fuckign hate when rich people are boring about it. I would trust vlad with nothing except to not be a boring rich asshole who wears...fucking khaki or some shit. man knows his Presentation Skills. and that 'V' chair in his mayoral office. is that fucking embroidered?
Tumblr media
-maddie get your MAN PLEEEEASSSE. IM SO EMBARRASSED FOR HER. the way jack stays simping for this man. in FRONT OF HIS WIFE!!!! ...my god its like a love triangle. jack clearly loves vlad, who loves maddie, who loves jack. jack fenton is at the very least bi, right................. this is an OBSESSION . 'THE V MAN COMETH'???? i...my god. (also, on a serious note, to have a friend THIS SUPPORTIVE...and still be SUCH A DICK TO HIM (TRYING TO KILL HIM AND STEAL HIS WIFE??) NOT COOL VLAD. JACK IS YOUR 1 AND /ONLY/ HYPE MAN. if someone loved and supported me THIS HARD...LIKE. CMON DUDE.
Tumblr media
-STOMP the fucking GAS, JACK
Tumblr media
-this would make a great shirt design, looks like a metal band design! we love The Maelstrom
-oh, so vlad did in fact get a mansion in amity park. and its purple! good color choice! not as flashy as a CASTLE or MURDER CABIN, but still pretty eccentric, which I appreciate.
-...vlad knows the difference between picasso and da vinci? in the ep last post where we were watching him fail at conquering every historical time ever he didnt seem to know history well enough to like. be effective...was vlad taking art history at college?? (was he an art MAJOR??? we never DID KNOW WHAT HE WENT TO SCHOOL FOR. I kinda assumed business because in the masters of time ep he was still rich without ghost powers so he had to have..known something about business or something, right...but also, art and or theater FITS HIS PERSONALITY. possibly also something science-y, I guess, but I always felt like he got roped into that, esp how pessimistic he was about the ghost portal in the flashbacks to college, like, i felt like he was just there for maddie and was uninterested/un-invested at the time...)
-THIS GHOST JUST ELECTROCUTED MADDIE (THE CAT) BITCH!! THATS MY FAVORITE MADDIE!!! vlad going after vortex and being ~shocked~ .....WHEN. WHEN WILL YOU LEARN. THAT YOUR ACTIONS. HAVE CONSEQUENCES!!!
-the way this random man with a camera sees the mayor laying in an alley covered in TRASH AND DECIDES TO TAKE A PICTURE HAHAH
Tumblr media
*snap* this ones going in my cringe compilation!
-vlad 'if we're going to defeat vortex, we're going to have to do it together!' *immediately dips after dropping danny off in front of vortex* JKASDFHKJHJKN
-DANNY CAN DUPLICATE!!! ...he couldnt even attack with it, but he DID IT!!! INTO (4) OF HIMSELF!!! SO PROUD!!!!!!!!!!
-'THE ROLLER COASTER EMOTIONS OF A TEENAGER THREATEN MY PLANS!' ...0 self awareness of his own dramatic moodiness. incredible, how dumb this man is. its very close to circling around to endearing, if he was less of an asshole. at least its very very funny to see danny shooting him with tiny lightning bolts anytime he's even slightly irritated! vlad you should be nice to danny anyway. this is what you GET
-...making sandwiches and ice cream and playing video games with your nephew is a totally normal thing. WHY is vlad acting like this is the end of the world. if you were a GOOD UNCLE YOU WOULD ALREADY BE DOING THESE THINGS!!! bitch I make my nephew food all the time and dont forget what he does and doesnt like. if u didnt know danny didnt want tomatoes, thats on u. if u, a grown adult, are gonna piss of the 14 yr old by not letting him win, u deserve to have to pay for the arcade machines he ruins because he now has uncontrollable storm powers because YOU THREW HIM INTO A FIGHT WITH THE STORM GHOST. fuck u vlad. paypal me $400,000 while ur at it tho. (also, gamer vlad confirmed)
-VLAD CAN COOK THOUGH???! I assumed he had...people working for him that did that. I mean. billionaires usually dont do that. then again, we've only seen those vultures working for him (and I guess the dairy king was AT his old mansion, but it was never really clarified if he worked there...I think he probably just Hung Out and they Enjoyed Cheeses Together. thats what I think, I dont think a KING would be working for anyone and also the dairy king was nice <3) but then again he would be a private person and we cant have anyone accidentally finding Ghostly Things, so...still, that's hilarious. pour one out for that really cute banana split that got ruined 2 seconds later
Tumblr media
-vlad just fucking picking danny up and THROWING HIM AT VORTEX TWICE WITHIN LIKE A MINUTE. JUST ABSOLUTELY LAUNCHING HIM. BITCH THATS MY SON BE CAREFUL!!! HES GOT ORGANS AND THINGS!!!!
-danny seeing those animal commercials and feeling sad is the biggest 2000s throwback so far. i legitimately had to change the channel or walk out of the room when those came on bc id CRY AND BE SAD ABOUT THEM FOR DAYS AFTER. fuck those commercials and fuck that IN THE ARMMMS OF AN ANGELLLL song 😭
-'vlads ego almost got the town destroyed!' yes danny thats the entire episode. the entire series anytime vlad shows up honestly. this episode was just him being really embarrassing the entire time, and, me laughing about it. 10/10 would laugh at him again
-NEXT EP WE HAVE A SHAPESHIFTING GHOST?? I've said it before but shapeshifting is the power I would want when asked those 'what superpower do you want' questions...its the Best power! this guy looks like a homestuck character. ive never read homestuck but thats the vibe
-I love every time we see tuckers family, they are by far the most functional family. and dash has a lil chihuahua!!! named pookie!!! i am crying (I've had 3 chihuahuas, so I am very biased, but...) AND HE WATCHES THE ROMANCE CHANNEL WITH POOKIE. POOKIE I WILL DIE FOR YOU YOU SWEET LITTLE BABY.
-danny can lift a bus! I shouldn't be surprised, but i am proud of my son. hes got lil kid fans. i am going to cry about this
-JAZZ KEEPS A SCRAPBOOK WITH DANNY'S LIL HEROICS AND NEWSPAPER CLIPPINGS!!! we've actually seen it on her floor before, but I didnt realize it was a scrapbook!! thats sooo cute.
-...and danny has to stand there listening to his parents saying danny phantom sucks and is a 'filthy ghost' and calling him egotistical...i am once again stealing their kids!
-THIS GHOST RIPPING JAZZ'S SCRAPBOOK!!! ILL KILL YOU. SHE WORKED HARD ON THAT!!! BITCH
-yes, maddie, the one with red eyes is For Sure Actually Your Son. ignore the, red eyes... (CLEARLY she hasnt watched the other 2 eps where danny has been evil, she doesnt know red eyes= evil!!!)
-'billy fenton'.......................
-danny being stuck as phantom in his own house, no way out is a fucking NIGHTMARE. his parents pointing giant weapons against him and SHOOTING AT HIM. THIS IS A HORROR MOVIE.
Tumblr media
-NINE INCH NAILS POSTER.
Tumblr media
-this is the most screenshot of all time
-amorpho turning into mr. lancer because hes 'someone no one will want to be around' BUT HES WRONG, I WOULD BEFRIEND AND HANG OUT WITH MR LANCER SO FAST.
-tucker dressing as danny, now I have the full Tucker set of him being sam and also being danny. also saying 'the ghost...uh...RIPPED MY FACE OFF.' and then running. SMOOTH. NOT AT ALL CONCERNING TO ANY PARENTS.
-sam accepts the toast from jack. and then 2 seconds later is like 'why am i eating this.' THIS SHOWS HUMOR IS SO UNEXPECTED SOMETIMES ITS REALLY GOOD. and then the scene after, mr lancer running into his ghost doppelganger and being like 'YOURE GORGOUS' THEN FAINTING. I AM CRYING. AND DASH FAINTING TOO.
-sam disguising herself as danny again to help tucker run from the fentons. but leaving him shirtless in the streets. incredible. 'plEASE DOnt NOTice MY FACELessNESS I MUST LIVE IN EXILE' this episode is destroying me the humor in this show is exactly my brand of corny and cheesy
-the impromtu story made up by danny and amorpho to explain stuff to the fentons. my god they are both such bad liars. but amorpho is a good egg. wish danny wouldnt have said he didnt wanna see him in town again!! I want him to be reoccurring. not that thats gonna matter since I'm almost done with the series, but the idea of this being the Only Time We See him is :(
-NEXT EP SAYS STARRING MARK HAMILL??????!!! hello ! mr . joker....mr. star wars.... I feel like I should be. idk. taking off a hat im not wearing in respect. I shouldnt be surprised tho bc hes in a lot of cartoons as a very good voice actor, and dp has already had a lot of talented ones so I've been looking out for ones I might know, but....mr. hamill....
-sam has her own greenhouse, names all the plants, and says thank you to them (in the languages from where the plants are from) whenever she harvests from them. thats SO cute. and her lil gothy lunch box...
-and danny's lil red fuzzy lined jacket!!! ive said it before but every time the characters get alt outfits im like :D
-danny has ice powers now!!! THATS WHAT FROSTBITE MEANT. HE KNEW SOMEHOW WAY BACK THEN
Tumblr media
-THIS SHOW NEVER LETS YOU FORGET VLAD IS A BILLIONAIRE, HUH.
-danny's lil 'holy hibiscus!' first off the 50s batman swearing is hilarious. 2nd. my username is from the flower sanchoyo hibiscus, so, shoutout to ME this ep. hi :)
-EURGH UNDERGROWTH MAKING EVERYONE PLANT ZOMBIES. HIVEMIND PLOTS SCARE THE SHIT OUT OF ME. and this dude made the city SO overtaken so quickly like how long was danny asleep?? oh god
Tumblr media
-evil fucked up sam! now the whole trio has gone evil at some point! the voice actress did a really, really good job with making her sound like a zombie...
-frostbite's paws are so so so big compared to danny. oh my god. i want to hug the snow dog...
-the far frozen has an advanced medical stuff!!! very cool. very smart snow dogs
-im so glad danny has a friendly ghost snow dad to explain this new power and teach him!!! this is so sweet. DANNY'S GHOST SENSE WAS A PART OF HIS ICE POWER?? OOOH. COOL. we love a training montage!!!
-danny saying if he cant defeat overgrowth, that he'd want to stay with frostbite...oh my god...do you think this is the first real supportive adult figure in his life (I am NOT counting his parents because they threaten him on the daily even if they dont realize it.) I mean mr lancer is a Teacher, but he was also nice but this is different, but this is a GHOST WHO IS WILLING TO HELP HIM with his powers and also will help him when hes injured and is so so nice and comparatively so much more mature than 90% of the adults in this show!!!! god. dad frostbite is my everything.
-the framing and lighting this episode, and all the angles...they went all OUT and it looks really really good. this is my nightmare scenario, tho. like, FUCK zombies and dead city zones and hivemind shit. and using the humans as 'nutrients for the children' i am going to THROW UP.
Tumblr media
-MALEFICENT VIBES WITH THE HORNS AND GREEN EYES! this costume kicks so much ass. sam is now mark hamills daughter, I guess.
-danny's ice powers making his eyes blue!!! thats neat. and him going for the roots underground was SO SMART. i will not stand for danny ever thinking hes stupid, hes SO smart.
almost done with the show... :"( thats a sad thought!!!

Hey I wanted to get your opinion on something I've been thinking about for a little while: For me, I see Buffy's jump from the tower in "The Gift" as (partially) an act of suicide as a result of years of trauma but also IMO guilt that she "lives with every day"(courtesy of "Phases") from all of that trauma that she feels like she should've been able to control: Angel's loss of his soul, Jenny Calendar's death etc. but I wish we could've gotten to see more of how that guilt has affected her (1/2)
(2/2) And by that I mean if we had more references to Dr. Gregory and how she liked him or saw Buffy grappling with her complicated grief for Ford, or if season 3 showed her grief for Kendra and how that might've affected her relationship to Faith. All of that just to ask: do you think the show did a good job of portraying Buffy's guilt and trauma from the losses and tragedies she's faced?
i’ll be honest, i don’t actually subscribe to the read of buffy’s sacrifice in “the gift” as suicide. so that’s going to color how i reply. she is, obviously, killing herself. and i know that there’s the context of spike’s death wish speech and buffy saying “i don’t know how to live in the world if these are the choices.” but personally, i think that buffy’s sacrifice is clearly meant to be heroic. i talked in a recent post about how the white light signals that, as well as the fact that it’s contrasted with ben’s cowardly decision to choose himself over dawn when faced with buffy’s same choice. there’s also the fact that dawn is life, or buffy’s youth, or any number of positive things, and her request that dawn “be brave” and “live” is about wanting that life to go on. most importantly, the show as a whole is so hard-line anti-suicide, that it just doesn’t really make sense to me that this scene that is clearly meant to be a positive, heroic (even if tragic for the audience) moment for buffy would be intended to be read as an act of suicide. like i mention in that post i linked, we even have the contrasting example of buffy in “dead things” for what it looks like when buffy is trying to figuratively sacrifice herself out of guilt. and the show doesn’t frame her actions in that episode as positive at all. (sympathetic, absolutely. but not really the “right” thing to do either.)
keep in mind that when spike says that “sooner or later” buffy’s “going to want” death, he has been unreliably narrating all evening. when buffy jumps, i don’t see her as fulfilling spike’s prediction straight. i see her as fulfilling it ironically, like a prophecy that comes to pass in the letter but not the spirit. in that moment, buffy does technically want kill herself, but not to die, or for any of the reasons spike gave. she wants to do it because it means that her sister gets to live. and she has been terrified all season that this would not be possible. similarly, when buffy says “she doesn’t know how to live in this world” i don’t see it as much about buffy not wanting to live but about buffy not wanting to live in this world. as in, the problem is the world. but when she jumps from the tower, she’s figured out a choice that she is finally content with (“tell giles i’ve figured it out”). a choice that allows dawn, and all of her friends, to keep (a) living, and (b) in this world. in other words, it’s a moment decidedly in favor of life.
symbolically, there’s also the fact that buffy’s leap into the portal is (in my read) about her leaping into the portal of adulthood. and then season six about the rude awakening of realizing that adulthood isn’t just about a single easy leap. which means that her death isn’t really about literal death. it’s about leaving childhood behind. which is sad and painful in its way, but still ultimately something that the show thinks is good and important and even heroic to do.
however. that said. i do think the show addresses some of what you’re talking about. if you’re looking for a season that’s about buffy’s accumulated guilt over her inability to save people, i think the season you’re actually looking for is season seven. season seven puts buffy in a pressure cooker where over and over she’s confronted with the fact that she can’t save everyone. “lessons” has dead spirits come to life who taunt her for not saving them:
BUFFY: Dawn? I'm close by.
DEAD JANITOR: Too late. But then, you're always too late, aren't you? Sure as hell didn't save me.
“help” has buffy trying to save cassie, who dies no matter how much buffy tries to fight it. “selfless” revisits buffy’s history of having to kill angel, and any other friend who becomes evil. “conversations with dead people” forces buffy to kill a former classmate/temporary confidant (shades of having to kill ford in “lie to me”). “sleeper” puts buffy in the position of potentially having to kill spike too, and when he gets kidnapped she may or may not be able to save him. when the ubervamp shows up, buffy’s ability to protect the potentials gets thrown into question. and that uncertainly only becomes more intense as the season goes on. obviously, season seven doesn’t really address much in the way of specific past trauma or guilt for buffy. it doesn’t reference those people you reference. but it does absolutely address the way that being the slayer has put buffy in this awful position where people are always dying, and it feels like her fault—sometimes because she literally has to kill them. which the season does because it’s trying to show that the solitary slayer mantle is a messed up, unjust system. it’s messed up that buffy should have to shoulder this guilt, especially alone.
so i mean, on the whole, yeah. i think the show does gloss over a lot of specific traumas. but in other ways it really doesn’t. "when she was bad” and “anne” and early season three clearly address how the end of the previous season affected buffy. and i don’t think it can be understated how insane it is that the show had buffy be depressed for literally an entire season. and even before that, buffy’s grief over joyce informs the back half of season five. i think it’s also clearly established that buffy represses like crazy, so it’s actually quite in-character to me that most of the time she glosses over the things that are hard for her--except those times when it cracks open. could the show have shown more? yeah, probably. and probably some of what it decided to show was affected by biases about what the writers thought of as important, or them just not wanting to be doom and gloom all the time. but on the whole what the show did show mostly worked for me.
this is all me though, of course! if you feel differently, that’s completely understandable, and definitely don’t let me stop you.

Yo Danie, I wonder if you've got any ideas on this; in TAS, transients either get summoned to Tokyo because the app reaches out and makes pacts on people's behalfs with willing familiars, or they get summoned by having, like, a wish of some kind and they end up stumbling through a portal to Tokyo to see that wish fulfilled, right? And then they either get unsummoned, or stick around for whatever reason?
Here's the thing; when they get unsummoned, do they go home? The Red Oni in chapter 1 seems pretty convinced that he's going to die unless you make a Summoning pact with him, but Salomon says later that Shiro's familiar whose connection you cut will just end up going home. Further to that, Macan says about Oniwaka when he's vanishing into light that he's going back to his home world, and then when his strength recovers he'll pop right back in.
The thing is though, that there's a remark early on that Stray Transients, who are Transients without a Summoning bond by the game's definition if I'm remembering right, can only maintain themselves for a while by sustaining themselves on the land's energy. Even further, the actual Housamo wiki says that they'll be unsummoned from the game if they don't find a way to sustain themselves, usually by getting into a pact. Guilds I believe are also noted to be one way around this. Does that mean that if you just wait outside of a Pact, you'll go home? Or would you pop back in again after a bit, essentially trapped in Tokyo?
ALSO ALSO, Bathym says that, though this only applies to "his hella demonic self", demons need tons of emotional energy directed at them to survive, and a pact is the most efficient way to get energy.
But we don't see Sitri in a Guild or a Pact (unless you Pact him, but I'm pretty sure that's non-canon), and Sitri also has a family. They're all demons one would presume, so why does he not seem to need anything like Bathym does? We can derive from this that Bathym was either speaking about himself, and only himself, lying to try and get the Protagonist to make a pact with him, or that Sitri has a Pact he isn't chatting to anybody about, right?
HOWEVER. In chapter 4, we see that the Aoyama guild provides supplies for the enormous number of Stray Transients who have nothing and no prospects, but that those strays are unlikely to be guild members. Further to that, she mentions that the ninjas and many other strays are like, literally treated as the dregs of society. So, how come they're still around? Surely the Stray Transient population should be either dwindling all the time, or in constant flux? But I'm pretty sure there's a notable overpopulation issue in canon because of the sheer number of Transients! Not to mention, if they're treated like dirt and killed and traded, you'd think they'd just...WANT to leave, right? So they could just wait until their connection ran out.
AND ALSO, it's noted in the backstory that Transients started pouring through the gates one day in history, and that this generation has never lived in a Tokyo without walls, but the previous generation therefore presumably did; that means like, it's been at least 2 decades, possibly 3. How long could those Transients have stuck around without a pact going by the lore?
Lastly, the Protagonist has the power to rend Transients connections to Tokyo, canonically. How then, do those Transients come back if they've had their connection severed? And shouldn't the Protagonist offer to go to the slums and ask if anybody would like to go back to their homeworld if that were the case? Or will everyone literally just rebound to Tokyo completely?
Further to that, when people fulfil their wish, do they go home? When they've played their Role out completely, is that the end of their tenure in Tokyo?
Basically, I think the whole system is a little underexplained and I've seen you post thoughts here on stuff, so I was wondering as to what you'd make of it all! Am I missing something?
. . .holy shit anon this is an essay innit lol not that i'm complaining, I just was not expecting it when I saw the notification after I woke up. For the record I saw this at. . .7am or so. It is now 11:55 when I'm finishing it. HYPERFOCUS GO BRRRRRRRRR. OKAY LET'S SEE IF I'VE GOT SOME THOUGHTS FOR YOU.
DISCLAIMER: I'VE BEEN PLAYING THIS GAME FOR LITTLE OVER A MONTH AND I FEEL LIKE I HAVE FAR FROM ALL OF THE DETAILS. I haven't read three of the translated past events yet and I haven't read most of the untranslated content(including Chapter 11 although I'm super tempted you don't even know.) These are just my understandings of things, I suppose.
ALSO IDK HOW FAR YOU ARE IN THE STORY. . .I mean you mention them being sold so you're probably up to Chapter 10 at least since that's where we learn about Daikoku selling transients because it gets him off I guess, although they also could have mentioned it some other time and I just forgot lol BUT. YEAH PROBABLY GONNA MENTION SPOILERS.
TL;DR:
Red Oni: summoned to Tokyo without a pact. When rended from the land would disappear, possibly die. Likely this is because of whatever conditions are happening where they came from or having had already been dead when summoned. Possibly also just a false belief because they didn't know well what was going on to begin with. Possibly also just part of the game plan originally but retconned by the devs then never rewritten.
D-Evils: Shiro's Rule is Ressurection which causes an exception when clashing with Rending. The world of the Old Ones is gone, the D-Evils are familiars created by/living in Shiro's book. Entities, abilities, and artifacts from Old Ones are able to be used outside of the app/battle zones, so D-Evils can exist if Shiro just summons them. D-Evils don't go away when rended because they're part of Old Ones and Old Ones is gone--if they go away they return to Shiro's artifact where they came from. They also donct go away because rending them causes an Exception.
Oniwaka; Zabaniyya; Ophion: rended from EXCEPTIONS not from the world. Were likely sent back in order to resolve the exception after being rended and to recover the energy that sustained their physical forms in the first place, not because they had no means of being sustained in Tokyo. Returned due to pacts with MC, positions in Guild, unfulfilled pact, etc once their energy to maintain physical form returned.
Stray Transients: likely have outstanding pacts and thus do not disappear over time. However, some don't and those proper strays will likely return home after an amount of time, but we don't know how long. Alp has been in Tokyo for a few months but isn't disappearing despite arriving because he wanted to be loved/popular. So unattached transients stay around longer than a few months. They may also be attached to the school they were initially meant to go to to be monitored, or someone who works there. They may not want to go home due to poor conditions, being dead, lacking a home or people to return to, etc. Remember, even in real life people immigrate to places that treat them poorly--but that's because even that and the potential in those places is likely better to them than whatever they're running away from. If the transient arrived in distress it's because they wanted to be away from wherever they started out or because they desperately needed something. This new opportunity may be what they need--to find someone they lost, to find an answer, to simply start life over fresh. Even if they're being abused, looked down on, they may simply be happy to be alive. If they want to go home, they hopefully just have to wait--but you have to live if you wanna get home, don't you? Best to survive as well as you can.
Stray Transient Population: constantly increasing to sustain/grow the Game for the World Representatives. The overpopulation is deliberate. They do not care about the wellbeing of these people, they only want to create a stadium to fight in, and for that they need more transients and app users than humans not using the app in Tokyo.
Sitri: Aside from forming a pact with him, Sitri's Sacred Artifact is his wings/are his feathers, which cause people to fall in love with someone who touched them after the feathers that had been touched are attached to a second party. Sitri feeds off of the love directed to him. This is troublesome for him more often than not, but I'm pretty sure that's how he gets the emotions he needs to eat if not via pact.
Being around from the start?: The gates appeared in 1999--it's been at least 20 years, assuming the game takes place anywhere near the present year. Off the top of my head we don't know if any stray transients have stuck around for extended periods. How long someone's been in Tokyo rarely comes up. We know Yule has been in Tokyo for a few years because he went to middle(elementary? Idr) school with Ryota. Sitri is similar with Kengo. As such, given Sitri and Yule aren't in guilds as far as we're aware, assuming being attached to a school doesn't make one connected to Tokyo, we can assume they're stray transients. This means that they'd been here for years, as strays. Given we know stray transients disappear eventually, it's safe to assume that there have been stray transients who disappeared and went home. Assuming it isn't different per individual, stray transients can stay in Tokyo for several months to several years, but to my awareness there's no set number.
Going Home: in order to go home a transient who's been summoned must fulfil their summoner/pacted humancs desire. Surtr, Azathoth, and Babalon all disappear after fulfilling Arc's desire for them to be their family, leaving behind their sacred artifacts which contain their memories until they disappeared. So, yes, fulfilling the desire entrusted to a transient/playing out their role will cause them to fulfil the conditions of their pact, causing them to disappear. However, we don't know what happens when they do. Thus far, those three haven't come back despite the reset occurring. Arc was able to summon their artifacts but otherwise could not reach them. Their artifacts were taken by Breke who was able to channel the memories within and allow Arc to communicate with Azathoth's memories.
SLIGHTLY MORE FULL VERSION WITH A COUPLE SCREENSHOTS
(read the tl;dr anyway because I probably remembered things while Inwas writing it that I didn't remember to put in the 'full' version lol I WROTE MOST OF THE LONG ONE, WROTE OUT THE TL;DR, THEN FINISHED THE LONG ONE SO. PROBABLY WANNA READ BOTH.)
Transients arrive in Tokyo either by being summoned, by being summoned ACCIDENTALLY(someone wishes to have friends/meet someone new, etc), by being pulled in by the Rainbow Of Transient Light randomly(?) sucking them up when they're in distress/have a wish to fulfil, or some combination of those.
In Macan's character quest, MC and Macan learn that the one who technically summoned Macan was MC. The same thing happens in I think Xolotl's. They end up going to the collided past--or a collided memory?--and when past!Macan is in distress over being alone, MC approaches him and says they're there for him, however past!Macan can only hear them, not see them. He calms down and asks if they're searching for him and says he's going to find them--which causes him to disappear and be summoned to Tokyo in search of this person who wanted to be by his side. Macan realizes that's exactly what happened to him--he heard a voice saying that they were with him and, in his desire to no longer be alone, the transient light came along and took him.

(it's written as 'Magan' in Japanese hence why it's written that way here--this was likely translated before his English name was given.) (Such a request, perhaps, means that he's with MC until he's dismissed by them specifically.)
Xolotl was running from being sacrificed to Tezcatlipoca and MC and future!Xolotl protected him. Seeing himself be weak and seeing himself be strong enough to try and protect MC and seeing MC who refused to leave him and hearing what they had to say, he desired the strength to live with the people he loves and for there to not be sacrifices again. He may not have gone to Tokyo if he hadn't realized that desire through meeting himself and MC. In fact, he may not have survived at all(though maybe Quetzalcoatl would've protected him if not collided MC and present!Xolotl.)

SO. If you recall correctly, MC is implied to be a transient as well. There's also the possibility that they're not, and simply are some poor sob the Game shoved 23+ memories in at once, broke the memories of the host in the proccess, and thus we have MC coming to in a park confused about everything but their own name(of course if that were the case surely someone in Tokyo would recognize them beyond their being the trophy/exile from their home world, so it's not likely.) Lil Salomon says that as a summoned transient they can only go home if they find and fulfil the wishes of their summoner. However they neither know who or where their summoner is.
Transients can appear simply due to someone's desire for companionship. But they don't necessarily appear atop that person, hence not knowing their summoner. They just hear a voice, may not even hear exactly what's being said or asked for, and the light picks them up and drops them off with no further info or ceremony. So if someone is pulled into Tokyo this way they have a summoner even if they don't know it--even if the summoner themself doesn't know. So they won't just disappear over time unless that person unwills what willed them there or they die or something. Plus we don't know how long stray transients stick around if they have no pact/summoner--we just know that they disappear eventually. It's more than a few months, because Alp showed up a few months ago and hasn't disappeared yet.

Several characters are attached to guilds which may keep them from being Strays. However some, to our awareness, have neither summoner/master nor guild. At most they may be attached to schools. Sitri, as you mentioned, is one of them, as is Yule--whom Shiro refers to as a stray transient he sees every year without being corrected(although the situation wasn't exactly a good time to clarify that lol.)
Tumblr media
Both of them have been in Tokyo for years without disappearing--and the app is a kind of but not super recent creation, so guilds likely didn't sustain them this whole time. Neither have disappeared. Of course someone may have summoned them or they may be part of guilds without it being stated or perhaps being in a school has the same effect as being in a guild. But we don't know that for sure, either.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Japanese middle school is from 12-15 years old. Kengo's a second year High School student now, so 16-17 years old. Sitri was a first year while Kengo was a third year, so there's two grades between them. Sitri's been in Tokyo at least 2 years. I believe he mentions seeing Lucifuge in a magazine in Ghenna so he hasn't been here his whole life either. So a few years, but not 15.)
Transients that disappear don't have pacts but transients that come back probably do/have formed pacts/attachments to the world. Remember, Oniwaka, Zabaniyya, and Ophion say to call on them if you need them. They're attached to the player now, perhaps having formed a pact incidentally, assuming the situation that brought them there in the first place isn't still in effect(or they're not still bound by, say, their guild.)
Also, much like in real life, sometimes whatever is home is worse than the horrific things you deal with wherever you immigrate to. Or perhaps you've formed attachments somewhere you've arrived and are willing to endure suffering for them. It's rarely as simple as "we're suffering, we wanna go back to where we came from." Especially since transients likely arrived due to distress or wanting to be anywhere else but home. Some of their worlds don't exist anymore(Old Ones) or are collapsing(Yggdrasil; El Dorado.) Some people have no one and nothing back home and this is a new start for them, even if the start is bad. Also they could be waiting until they go home automatically, but what're you gonna do while you wait? Probably live your life as best you can. If you're gojna be stuck somewherefor a few months you may as well make yourself at home.
So why doesn't MC go around rending people themself?
Well, for starters, they're made to be a high school student most of the day. Where would they find the time lol. Second they're a bit busy trying to save the world and all. . .and if some teenager wandered up to you and said they could get you home if you had an app battle with them, would you really believe that when you've been told your best bet is to either find your summoner or wait out your incidental connection to the world? Sounds like a kid trying to stir up trouble, and not all transients have the app anyway. I mean really would you expect the local homeless population to have smartphones? Probably not.
Furthermore. Spoiler alert
This system of the game, the gates, the transients, it's no accident. It's intentional. Tokyo is the setting for this inter-world competition to prove which world is strongest or something to that effect--and the winner gets MC, the host of the exiles and perhaps some kind of powerful system. Of course what they do with MC is up to them. The Warmongers want to keep the game going so they can fight the powerful MV over and over again forever. We don't know what the Invaders want yet afaik but based on the name I'd assume they want to use MC as a super soldier to conquer other worlds. And the Rule Makers want to use MC to support one of their own worlds as its System. /smacks MC on the back) this baby can hold SO MANY rules and roles! Hold up a whole damn world apparently!!
So think of it this way. . .they could go around rending everyone until the transient light returns them home or to the deaths they desire. . .but would the World Representatives really allow that? They'd just keep bringing in transients. They need to fill Tokyo with them--until transients and app users outnumber the humans naturally belonging to Tokyo--so they can have their little contest.
MC alone would never be able to pull off sending everyone home as long as the Game is running. The worlds would not allow their contest to be ruined.
As for who goes where and does what when unsummoned. The Red Oni hadn't been there long. And perhaps wasn't summoned in the first place, nor had anyone likely explained much to them for that arrival. Also if you felt yourself disappearing, felt your connection to this world just torn off and uprooted and fading away, even if you knew better you'd probably think you're dying. That'd be scary. You'd want to avoid it.
Of course it's also possible the oni was dead or dying to begin with and their connection being severed would send them back to death--like Shino, who'd died long ago in the Land of Wa and when he died in Tokyo he went back to being dead.
The D-Evils don't have anywhere to go back to besides Shiro's book. The world of the Old Ones is gone. As such "home" for them is back with Shiro--and remember, their rules clash anyway. Rending and Ressurection don't mix. MC couldn't rend the D-Evils from Shiro properly because it causes an Exception. At best rending them will send them back to the book until Shiro summons them again. Plus, entities from Old Ones can use their powers without the use of the app--including those with Old Ones artifacts. Shiro can summon the D-Evils at any time, even outside of an app battle--so to send them 'home' doesn't really send them anywhere but back to Shiro since they both have no home to return to and were summoned to exist in Tokyo.
Demons needing to recieve emotions seems to be more of a feeding thing than a transient connection one afair. Like Alp eating dreams--he'll die if he doesn't. It's like "I need to external feelings or I'll starve" not "I need external feelings or I go back to Ghenna." Sitri likely survived thanks to his feathers--his sacred artifact which cause people they attach to to fall in love with whoever touched them previously--causing a constant stream of love towards him as he needs it. As such he doesn't need to have a pact to live, he only needs to make people fall for him to absorb that feeling and then take his feathers back to stop eating.
The canon-ness of MC making pacts with everyone is perhaps debateable. However events, character quests, special quests, etc have characters refer to Mc as Master or Summoner. And the story can sometimes reference events and such(see: meeting characters in events before they're part of the main story, meeting them in the main story, and being able to go "didn't I meet you in [season/holiday]?" And they go "yeah, we did! It's nice to see you again!" So technically events and the like are as canon as you make them. Also having a pact doesn't mean that person can't be your enemy or can't hurt you or is fully at your command, which means that it doesn't necessarily not make sense that characters can be in pacts with/summoned by the player while still being against them. MC likely has the ability to form pacts easily/unconsciously.
This is likely(and this part is speculation!) because of MC's role as the Wanderer--as the host of the Exiles of the many worlds, they're a system in and of themself(or they'e able to be one.) As such attachments to them are like individuals having 'faith' in them, the way Systems sustain worlds. Especially those who had some relationship with or attachment to an Exile they host. This may also cause a pseudo pact with people they meet and get attached to(and are attached to them in turn, not necessarily in a positive way)--like people believing in a faith. The attachment to them, love for them, hate of them, fear of them, is a sort of belief that causes them to be able to stay in Tokyo longer because they are now unwittingly part of MC's system. After all MC is a transient and transients, as far as I recall/understand, don't summon other transients to Tokyo, they only summon artifacts because bringing a whole person and their memories requires a strong means to bind them. Transients' connections are already dependent on someone/something else--which is already taxing as a pregnancy--and that'd be hard for them unless they were born into Tokyo.
In cases like Oniwaka and Zabaniyya and Ophion, they likely needed to disappear temporarily in order to resolve the Exception on top of regaining energy to sustain physical forms in another world. Think of it like closing a program on your computer. If the program clashed with another and an exception occurs you close the one of lesser importance. You can then maybe open it again once things have cooled down with your proccesser and it can handle them at the same time--thus, they come back to Tokyo even after being dismissed by fixing the exception.
So they pop back in because they're still bound to Tokyo. MC only rended them from the exception, not from the world itself. But transients who truly have no connection will go back and stay until summoned again. . . .
(Now that I think about it when someone fulfils the reason they were summoned to Tokyo they disappear and seem to disappear for good. We don't know if they die or what. They've been eliminated from the game. This happens with Surtr, Babalon, and Azathoth. After they successfully, properly became like Arc's family and that desire was considered fulfilled the pact was complete and they disappeared, leaving behind their artifacts.
Red Oni may have been summoned to be a tutorial for the player. But also a tutorial for the player character. Red Oni thus would go away completely after fulfilling that desire of whoever summoned them, thus giving them their fear they'd die because they'd served their purpose.
I just happened to remember/consider that lol ANYWAY.)
Basically it's a bit underexplained I agree.
But that's because you, as the player, as the MC, aren't supposed to know everything that's going on. You're supposed to learn as you go while also being denied information by the Powers That Be. You don't have your memories, you don't know what's going on here until you see/experience/hear about it. It's part of the immersive understanding/storytelling proccess. The characters don't tell you how things work because they only barely understand it themselves--and then when they learn 'this isn't just a game, this isn't just coincidence, there's something greater happening here' everything they know gets thrown into question. The people who do understand it aren't going to tell you much because they don't want you to ruin their game. You're just the final boss and the trophy to be won--and possibly the system upon which the game resides, resetting every time you die so you can struggle to be won someday.
You "can't win."
So you don't need to know how it works.
That doesn't stop you or anyone else from trying to find out, though, nor does it stop you from trying to change it.
. . .I hope that helped a bit! 8'D I don't think you missed much, really. You're right in that it's underexplained but That's Storytelling, Baby!
