I hate explaining to people my love for TBOI because how do I say that it has one of the saddest and cruel storys Ive ever experienced in a video game, how Isaac didnt deserve any of this, how amazing its religious themes work, THE FUCKING MUSIC, at the same time showing them the gameplay and its just me shooting a poop for a solid minute

incessantly googling "did jesus have a sense of humour" "does god ever laugh in the bible" "did mary every say what her favourite colour was" "did anyone ever have a crush on jesus" "did jesus know swear words" "did god ever feel bad about what he was getting jesus to do" the same way i did at 13. the same way i did when i felt scared. the same way i do when i'm trying to find humanity in the divine and the divine in humanity.

Inspired by the glass animals song Cocoa Hooves. In my head when I hear this it sounds like a confrontation between a guardian angel and an adventurer who keeps running away from adventure.

also man. you calling the sealed journal the fruit of knowledge and van helsing the serpentand breaking the seal = biting the fruit is galaxy brain fr
Nice song, anon!
And yes, the journal is the forbidden fruit because Dracula thrives on ignorance. Jonathan couldn't even remember if it really happened. But the journal is proof that it did.
And Van Helsing tells everyone that for the rational, scientific world, Dracula goes by unnoticed because he thrives on the assumptions that he doesn't exist. Kind of like the Usual Suspects and the line "the greatest thing the devil did was trick everyone into believing he doesn't exist". Because Van Helsing tells Mina that the diary is factual and true, it changes their life.

God Favored Her: An Introduction + Three Photos Tag Game
Due to recent (and at the same time ancient) events, I’ve taken it upon myself to try to repurpose my frustration into something creative.
Enter: God Favored Her
(details, moodboards, and playlists under the cut!)
*TW: Sexual Harassment & Assault, Abortion, Stalking, Conversion Therapy, Incest
God Favored Her is a collection of short stories about the lives of different modern day women inspired by the women from the bible. Currently, there are four planned installments:
Tumblr media
Eve🗧
Synopsis: Eve navigates her desire to have sex with her boyfriend within a highly conservative environment. Ultimately, she decides to give into her desires, but is later punished harshly, now facing the future she never wanted to have.
Spotify Link: Here.
Note: In this interpretation, the apple is now a cherry, a representation of losing your virginity. The whole Fall of Man story is all about the loss of innocence, so I thought it would be interesting to take it in this direction.
Tumblr media
Bathsheba🗧
Synopsis: Bathsheba, a woman who lives with her veteran husband (who is mostly away), discovers that naked photos of herself were taken without her consent when someone across the street begins stalking her. She feels ashamed of her forgetfulness to close her blinds and realizes that she can’t ask for help. Faced with his money and power, she feels pressured into giving into his advances. Ultimately, Bathsheba becomes pregnant with his child and she contemplates on living in a man’s world as a woman without a man.
Spotify Link: Here.
Note: I really hated how the bible passages never went into how Bathsheba felt about David watching her and impregnating her. Honest to god, it sounded like she enjoyed it because of her silence. (We’re not even getting into him murdering her husband.)
Tumblr media
Mary Magdalene🗧
Synopsis:  A disciple at a conversion camp battles inner turmoil when she finds out her lover is soon to leave the camp. She contemplates her status of being the lowly sinner and her lover, the praised saint. She remembers how her love seems to be a completely different person around her—human, even—and wonders which side of her is real—if their love was ever real. Ultimately, when her lover leaves to go on the mission, she is left alone with her prayers to god, begging that he would change her.
Spotify Link: Here.
Note: Alexa, play I Don’t Know How To Love Him.
Honestly, this story is an outlier because this is the only one where she doesn’t get pregnant, which puts into perspective the role women play in the bible. Still, I wanted to tackle this because of the supposed rumor that Magdalene and Jesus had a secret romance (omg I sound so gossipy). I wondered what kind of dynamic would a sinner and a saint have and I realized that this would be worth exploring through a queer lens.
Tumblr media
Virgin Mary🗧
Synopsis: A pregnant teenage girl reflects on the mystery of her pregnancy. She navigates family dynamics, trying to amend her innocent youth with the expectation to be as innocent after everything that’s happened. Now a mother, she tries to understand her responsibilities, realizing, as a sixteen-year-old, she’s not ready. Ultimately, with family and morals in mind, she takes it upon herself to have the baby—regardless of her fears and uncertainty surrounding her pregnancy.
Spotify Link: Here.
Notes: This one, I’d say, is the most controversial story as it paints Mary to be an unwilling mother. However, I must say, that Mary was sixteen when she said yes to God, and as a child listening to that story, I was terrified. I’d imagine that at that age, if a god were to ask me to bear his child, I can’t say no. And so, I wanna give a more humanistic lens into the youth of Mary and the expectation, as women, to remain innocent.
Also, Mary’s decision at the end shouldn’t be seen as her disregarding her feelings for the “greater good.” It should be seen as a complicated decision that Mary had to make.
Final Notes🗧
@loveimogen has previously tagged me in a three photos tag game where you  find three photos/images (they can be anything at all, memes, vintage photographs, quotes, anything) that you feel describe your wip. Coincidentally, I was working on this post when I was tagged, so I thought I’ll just put it under that. You can find xyr post here!
Also I’ll be tagging @the-writing-moon @thepixiediaries @the-orangeauthor and whoever else wants to join! :DD (No pressure to the ones I tagged tho!)

Armillaria solidipes
— Do you know which organism is the oldest to inhabit this planet, Sakura? It’s a fungus, Armillaria solidipes, 8650 years old. It’s in Oregon, in the United States, and it’s also the largest organism to live… Inside the earth, its hyphae spread for miles and miles, as far as the eye can see… To give you an idea, humans live an average of 72 years. And we are also absolutely insignificant creatures.

— Do you know which organism is the oldest to inhabit this planet, Sakura? It’s a fungus, Armillaria solidipes, 8650 years old. It’s in Oregon, in the United States, and it’s also the largest organism to live... Inside the earth, its hyphae spread for miles and miles, as far as the eye can see... To give you an idea, humans live an average of 72 years. And we are also absolutely insignificant creatures.
I smiled back at her. It was Saturday morning and I was accompanying Ino on her research in the college's biology laboratory. While she observed something beyond my comprehension under the microscope — I was a mere math student, thank you — Ino rambled on about the most random topics.
— I don't think 72 years is that insignificant... And by the time we reach that age, life expectancy will have increased, of course... In Brazil, it's already higher than that, because an average measure is prone to distortions, some countries will always pull the mean score lower: wars, famine, high infant mortality. — I replied, trying to remain optimistic.
She clicked her tongue in annoyance, without taking her eyes off the lens of the microscope. That wasn't the answer she wanted to hear: — Do you know why I chose Botany, out of all the branches of biology?
I could say yes and give common answers like "because you like flowers" or "because you want to run your family's flower shop," but I knew they were simply inappropriate. Ino and I had known each other since we were kids, and yet, if I had to walk inside her soul in the dark, as one does within the familiarity of home, I would stub my toe on a corner. Understanding her veered on the impossible. — No.
— Because fungi are fascinating, but they scare me. Plants are easy to understand, methodical even… But not fungi. They're not plants, they're not animals, and they're a little bit of both, so we had to create a new category to classify them. Some can save lives, like the genus from which penicillin is extracted, others can kill with their toxins, like Amanita phalloides... Some form symbiotic relationships with plants and are what sustain entire forests, connecting trees and sharing nutrients, while others feed off death and destroy everything in their path. They are both life and death, two sides of the same coin, and putrefaction exists regardless of everything. It's what started life and it's what will end it, closing the door and turning off the lights when there's no one else here.
Thinking about it made me shiver. Being in a grave, devoured by organisms without any awareness (at least that I know of!) of what they do, of what they are. Little by little I would become part of the land and part of the Earth. It’s beautiful, even if in a somewhat macabre way. — Someday I'll be a really cute red and white mushroom, and some biology student will pick me up and slice me up to analyze me under a microscope. — I replied, as I dodged the air conditioner and got closer to her.
— What happens after we die?
Another one of her existentialist questions. — Come on, if you wanted to discuss philosophy, you should have called Hinata, it's her area. I don't understand anything other than numbers and equations. To me, life is a series of formulas, chemical reactions and concentration gradients that cease when we die.
— Don’t you believe in heaven, hell, purgatory, reincarnation?
— I don't know. Should I?
— Wish I knew. Maybe we’re already in purgatory, or hell, and this life is nothing but a punishment. We have to atone for our sins, correct our mistakes, to move forward. When we die, we become free: free from conscience, free from weight. Just a white light surrounding us that erases everything.
I wish I could argue back and say that this could be heaven, but I'm not that optimistic. — Who knows…
— Wouldn’t you like to know?
I remember, during my time studying for confirmation, they told us that the forbidden fruit was an apple. But I also remember sometime later coming to the conclusion that the forbidden fruit was knowledge: ignorance is bliss. As much as I disagreed with this stupid saying, Ino's proposal made me stop for a second, with bated breath: wouldn’t I want to know? It was a tempting proposal, as much as it was a deal with the Devil himself. I always wanted to know everything, of course. I would have bitten the damn apple without thinking twice, like Eve did.
— Does it matter if we know?
The words flowed out of my mouth so easily that I even got surprised. Ino was also taken aback by my comment: — As expected of miss Sakura Haruno. — she said, laughing and turning to me, finally looking away from the stupid microscope — To you, knowing doesn't matter because you would keep fighting and moving forward as if nothing had changed.
— In heaven or hell, my definition of ethics does not change.
— Ah, you're right about that. If I knew I was in Hell now and that I was damned to spend eternity here, it wouldn’t matter if I found my existence comfortable before, I would stall like a spoiled kid and follow the advice from that old saying that says “if you are in Hell, embrace the devil”. But you would go on with your life, doing what is right even if you knew there was no salvation, simply because you do what’s right. Nothing beyond that.
— If you say it's because I'm as stubborn as a mule... — I already threatened to get up from my chair, a little annoyed.
Ino laughed. She had a truly infectious laugh, and it was impossible not to like her, you know? Even more so when she laughed like that, without worry, without limits. — If you say so, then I won't say it... By the way, do you know something that's also very interesting? Did you know that humans and fungi have a common ancestor from around 450 million years ago? This is why psilocybin works on us, because it’s pretty similar to serotonin, and acts on the same receptors. That's why it makes us happy.
I knew the name psilocybin. — Tell me you didn't take it before getting in here…
But Ino Yamanaka laughed again, and returned her gaze to the microscope, without answering me.

dude. what is up with Edward Twilight. He really tried to establish dominance over Arthur ‘call me Sir until you earn my name’ Bennett, in the craziest, most confusing interaction, where he gloated over being with Mary, but also gave a ‘we saw you across the bar and dug your vibe’ sorta energy in what I can only call an attempted power play? and then he immediately lost the idgaf war so bad to he had to make two frenzy checks.

SUPTOBER DAY 01 - liminal in the beginning
4 And I looked, and, behold, a whirlwind came out of the north, a great cloud, and a fire infolding itself, and a brightness was about it, and out of the midst thereof as the colour of amber, out of the midst of the fire.
5 Also out of the midst thereof came the likeness of four living creatures. And this was their appearance;

Embroidered Casket about 1675, England, wood covered with satin, silk and metal thread, mica and glass beads, ivory (figures in the garden) 32 x 21 x 26cm
In many cases the final challenge [for a woman learning embroidery] was the production of a casket like this one, depicting scenes from myth or the Bible using a wide range of stitches and materials. In particular these caskets employ raised work, the technique of embroidering over padding.
It is probable that each individual figure or element was sewn independently and then applied to the delicate white satin background. This meant that the needlewoman could experiment and correct mistakes which would be impossible to rework on the satin. Once the panels were completed they were sent to a local cabinet-maker who mounted them on wood and made them up into a casket. The silver braid conceals the joins and prevents the satin from fraying.

Angels are my funky little hyper-fixation.
The idea of just being breathed to life, to immediate indelible purpose, knowing nothing else but adoration for your Creator (holy-holy-holy), and love for everything in creation. That includes your perfect home, your siblings, and that includes yourself. Everything is as it should be, everyone is doing what they should be, and you're utterly content.
Do you have free-will? Why would you need it? What would you even do with it?
The idea of falling. That terrible, beautiful first breath of freedom, undercut by immediate sorrow. "Innocence lost cannot be regained", but even more: a broken machine cannot be relied upon. In finding yourself, you have destroyed what you were meant to be. Your Creator (holy-holy-holy) has thrown you away.
Would you still be you if you got "fixed"? Would the "flaw" just recur? Why can't you help but think of it in those terms?
You have the Fallen, your comrades in arms, your fellow damned. But you left two-thirds of Heaven behind, people you loved because you were made to love them, and who were made to love you in return. The oldest family in the universe, your family, is broken now.
Do you still love them, your siblings that stayed behind? Some fought against your newfound freedom, yes. But some just looked on, a few perhaps even in envy, too afraid to join you, but most in simple horror as their world dissolved. Do you resent them too?
You broke your family.
Do you hate them simply because they lacked your will, your conviction? Do you hate them for being better machines? Do you hate them knowing, in their own naive, ignorant, hurtful way, that they still love you?
To deny fault is to deny the very free-will you sought to prove you have. To blame Him (holy-holy-holy) is to admit to His (holy-holy-holy) infinite power which you, nonetheless, defy.
And from the other side, what of your poor lost kin? How could they do this?
Angels are purpose-made, gears in the Machine. The Host is singular, inexorable, deterministic. They turn the wheels of the Universe, from the birth and death of stars, to the birth and death of mortal creatures.
Why would your siblings do this, don't they love you? You are loved. Was there a flaw in the Design? He (holy-holy-holy) cannot err, by definition. What happens now that they're gone, what happens to their purpose? All goes according to plan. Then why can't you stop having these thoughts?
I'm not religious at all, but...
