"The women come from everywhere. Many have husbands in the Army. Others have husbands who also work at Aberdeen. They wear bright-colored slacks, and their ‘firing fronts’ are a rippling blend of pink, blue and orange, mixed with white and black powder from the guns. They serve on crews of all weapons up to the 90mm A.A.’s [anti-aircraft guns]. They handle highly technical instruments. They drive trucks, act as bicycle messengers, swab and clean vehicles."

oh a lot of them
sasha could have reached out for help, elaine could have told people about how bad it was getting at home, adele could have talked to people long before she even got on the bus, gabriel could have put his foot down on odettes obsession, odette could have let ets parents go and let go of the grief, madeleine could have told someone sooner, lenore could have told someone before it happened, bernard could have stopped trying to give maddie the benefit of the doubt, maddie could have actually looked at her actions and realised she was hurting everyone she cared about, reuben could have stopped enabling sasha
but i do wanna say the cases of what happened to all of them that for them all they didnt See other choices
adele was in a episode, she had just needed to get out and away from everything, she had no idea she would end up on the mountain, and she had no idea that odette was so obsessed with revenge
sasha felt betrayed by his friends and couldnt put this on his parents as he cares for them and theyre too sick, he had already resigned to not getting off the mountain when he realised, he was going to go on a self destructive spiral no matter what, it just got worse when he met sasha
madeleines family are very tight knit and theres been high expectations for em and eir siblings for as long as ey can remember, ey learnt young that asking for help didnt end well and this was so big that ey didnt even consider it
gabriel cares about odette as if et was his own child but he knows he cant replace ets parents, so he let et spiral and drift away because he was too afraid of overstepping, and that led to much much worse things than he could have ever known

FRIENDLY ENEMIES
1918
Friendly Enemies is a comedy in three acts by Samuel Shipman and Aaron Hoffman. It was originally produced by A.H. Woods starring Sam Bernard and Louis Mann.
The play was written for Bernard and Mann, although this was their first stage pairing.
Henry Block and Karl Pfeifer are old friends who both immigrated to the United States from Germany. Karl's son Billy and Henry's daughter June are engaged to be married. Henry has assimilated as a patriotic American, including changing his name from Heinrich. Karl refuses to change his name and remains a German patriot. The entry of the United States into World War I against Germany creates conflict between Karl and the others. Karl is secretly giving money to Walter Stuart to fund what Karl thinks is an effort to defuse anti-German propaganda, but Stuart is actually a German agent who uses the money to fund sabotage. Billy enlists in the United States Army against Karl's wishes. When Karl discovers that his money has funded a bomb that sinks the troop transport carrying his son, he changes his position on the war. The play has a happy ending when Billy returns home, having been saved from the sinking ship.
Pfeifer tells Block of a scientist in Germany who discovered a way to make pancakes out of sawdust:
“Ain't that wonderful?"
"Yes, it's wonderful, but who in hell Is going to eat them?"
When war news Is a matter of debate between Pfeifer and Block:
"Paris states..."
"...But Berlin denies.”
“Yes. And no other country has got so much to deny. The truth has not been told in Germany since August 1914."
Friendly Enemies premiered in Atlantic City at Nixon’s Apollo Theatre on February 28, 1918. From AC, the play went to DC, where history was made. Due to difficulty in getting the scenery to Washington in time, the play already at the National Theatre, The Land of Joy, extended its run by one day.
On March 4, 1918, the play made headlines when President Woodrow Wilson attended the production and rose from his box to make a public statement that was widely used in advertising the play.
A year earlier, in his address to Congress to request a declaration of war, Wilson said "We have no quarrel with the German people" and feel "sympathy and friendship" towards them.
Starting on March 11th, the play inaugurated the new Woods Theatre in Chicago IL. Friendly Enemies was the first play at Woods’ brand new theatre, which had room for 1,312 patrons on two levels.
In 1918, a Mack Sennett comedy film was released titled “Friendly Enemies” but was not related to the play.
The play opened on Broadway at the Hudson Theatre (141 West 44th Street) on July 22, 1918. The play was originally supposed to begin in August, but the date was moved up in order to claim the honor of ‘first play of the new season’, causing the cancelation of several pre-Broadway tryout engagements, including Asbury Park’s Savoy Theatre.
About the Venue: The Hudson was bult in 1903. It was most often used as a TV studio in the 1930s, 40s, and 50s. In 1974, it was a blue movie theatre. In 1980, it became the Savoy, a rock club. In 1987, it received landmark status, so it was incorporated it into the adjacent Millennium Broadway Hotel as a conference center and auditorium. The venue re-opened as a legitimate Broadway theatre in 2017.

“Pfeifer and Block ae almost as funny as Potash and Perlmutter. In their battle of words those friendly enemies also recall the two old playmates acted by Lew Fields and John Mason In ‘Bosom Friends.'”
It was more than passing warm last night when the new theatrical season opened with the presentation of ‘Friendly Enemies' at the Hudson Theater. But the heat did not let down In the least the delight of the reception it received. It will take a hotter July night next summer to make an audience take less delight in the same play at the same theater. 'Friendly Enemies' can he expected to keep the theatrical home fires burning until another season rolls around. In fact, it ought to last as long as the war itself.” ~ BROOKLYN DAILY EAGLE
Incredibly, the above reviewer was correct on all counts. The play did indeed see another July. It closed on Broadway on July 19, 1919, after 440 performances and 52 weeks at the Hudson. The war ended on November 11, 1918, when the play was still in its fourth month.
During its year on Broadway, four road companies were launched. The Broadway box office earned a record $13,000 a week at the Hudson. Originally cast member Louis Mann was still with the company when it shuttered.
In the UK, the play was re-titled Uncle Sam and was seen in the West End, as well as two regional companies.
The play took the month of August off but intended to resume and launch a tour at the Manhattan Opera House. Coincidentally, August also saw an actors’ strike which briefly delayed the re-opening date.
On November 20, 1919, the play returned to Atlantic City Boardwalk, this time at the Globe Theatre and without Sam Bernard. “The Comedy that encircled the Globe” was playing the Globe.
On November 15, 1920, a stock production of the play opened in Atlantic City at the Woods Theatre (later the Savoy) on the Boardwalk performed by the Vaughn Glaser Players.
The play was adapted to film twice, first in 1925 and then in 1942, with both versions retaining the title Friendly Enemies.
The 1925 adaptation was a black and white silent film directed by George Melford. The film starred the vaudeville team of Lew Fields and Joe Weber, who were colleagues of original play star Sam Bernard.
On May 9, 1925, Friendly Enemies was back on the Boardwalk. This time as a film at the Strand Theatre, opposite Steel Pier.
The 1942 adaptation was a black and white sound film directed by Allan Dwan. The film starred vaudevillians Charles Wnninger and Charlie Ruggles.
In late July 1942, Friendly Enemies was back on the Boardwalk. Again, the film (this one with sound) was at the Strand Theatre, opposite Steel Pier.

Dick: No, no arguing. We're here on a MISSION.
Tim: That's right, a very important mission.
Dick: One of us has to go undercover as Dr. Hoffman's patient. But why? Why are we seeking therapy?
Tim: Wrong answers only. If any of you get too real, Dick can and will find you a real therapist.
Dick: And Tim, no superhero related answers. Bernard's PowerPoint nights give you too much of an advantage.
Tim: You're just jealous I know that Batman is actually a tulpa.
Jason: You shut the fuck up too.

Dick: Okay, I'll go first to get the obvious answer out of the way. I'm going because I'm secretly Batman, BUT I'm not here about that. I just have incredibly selective amnesia and can't remember the code to the Batmobile.
Jason: Oh that one's good. Let me think.
Steph: Hoffman is a man, right?
Dick: Right.
Steph: Easy, I'll claim womanly problems. Maybe get prescribed a vibrator.
Tim: *wheezes*
Dick: Ok Gotham's in the dark ages of psychology but not THAT much.
Steph: Spoilsport. Fine, I'm Batman's long lost twin sister.
Duke: Come on, we can't all go to therapy because of Batman.
Jason: I don't know, I feel like all of us should go to therapy because of Batman.
Cass: I'll go because I'm Batman.
Jason: I'd vote for you.
Duke: I think I would go because Metropolis isn't real.
Tim: Like, the whole city is-
Duke: It's a conspiracy. The government wants us to think there's this wonderful city where nothing bad ever happens and an actual alien from space saves the day. Tries to make us buy into some utopian bullshit.
Tim: Hoffman's just going to drive you there.
Duke: Ha! He's not getting ME to a secondary location. He might be in on it.
Steph: Compelling, definitely compelling. I nominate Duke's for first place.
Jason: Don't jump the gun.
Tim: Yeah, you haven't heard ours.
Steph: Well? Let's hear it then.
Tim: I'm an alien spy, sent here to study humans. Only I'm not doing well because I was taken in by rich people and they act weirder than me. I want to know what it means to be human, but whenever I look around all I see is how to make a good margarita. It makes me... sad.
Steph: That's no good. We said wrong answers only.
Jason: Solid four out of ten.
Tim: Fuck off.
Jason: I think I would go because I was convinced I was the second coming of Jesus which is all fine and good, but my whole family is Jewish so it's making things a little awkward at the dinner table.
Steph: You did come back from the dead.
Jason: I did and I'll tell him that. Took a little longer than three days this time, though.
Tim: Okay, I'll be honest. Jason and Duke's are the best.
Dick: Hold on- Damian, do you have an answer?
Damian: Of course. And not one so foolish.
Duke: Well?
Damian: Well, my whole family is comprised of vigilantes and I'm under a lot of stress to be one as well and continue the family tradition. I will of course swear him to secrecy and avoid naming any vigilantes by name.
Dick: ...
Jason: This is what I'm talking about. This is exactly what I'm-
Dick: Yes, okay. Game's over. All of you are getting psych referrals in your inbox by the morning.
Steph: What about-
Dick: Duke won.

he would definitely bring home a lot of stray cats ,, he used to have ferrets and rats and he loved carrying them around in whatever hoodie he was wearing !!!!
LAWRENCE
allergic to cats . has only had fishes but hes usually not home or very busy so they always die but he cant stop getting them bc he loves watching them swim and he tries REALLY hard to keep them alive
AMANDA
she would have a crow ,, or a raccoon army . she loves grabbing pigeons on the streets and chasing adam with them (theyre the siblings ever okay idc about canon) . she also has A LOT of bugs, worms, moths, tarantulas etc

he wouldnt have a pet himself but would take care of whatever pet anyone brings home !!!! animals definitely love him and follow him to his workshop and sometimes to bed when he wants to take a nap

shes a hamster girlie ,, also used to have a turtle teehee . LOVES to put the hamster in a ball so it can follow her around the house . phone gallery FULL of videos of it !!!! usually sends them to amanda but stops sending her that many videos bc she always replies with videos of her bugs

100% a dog person ,, probably a saint bernard or a german shepherd . uses the dog as a blanket when hes laying on the couch watching a movie or smth . people always point out how the dog literally looks like him but he says he doesnt see it

never thought he was a cat person ,, didnt think he would have pets at all . hes THE chosen one istg cats see him and immediatly start following him . adopts a cat with a similar scar and calls it "cat" but everyone calls it "peter jr" bc it's silly ... he would DIE before moving when the cat in sleeping on him . he also carries it around the house with one of these

the kinda girl who had 30 animals in her house when she was young ,, from dogs and cats and birds to horses and cows !!!! definitely enjoys hanging out with all kinds of animals and is probably one of the few ppl who would willingly ask amanda about her pets

has a dog !!!! also never got out of her horse phase ,, she probably has a friend who has horses and visits every weekend just to see the horses . kinda indifferent about the rest of animals but she still takes care of them

The Shuttle by Frances Hodgson Burnett - I quite like it, it kinda goes into the (poor) english aristocracy marrying wealthy american girls and the differences in expectation of treatment and such.
A Bride's Story by Kaoru Mori - a manga series, don't know if your into that, but carefully researched, beautiful art (especially the textiles) of the time period and place, in areas around the silk road/russian steppes - Kazakhstan is one place I know the author visited.

Lovecraft Country - Matt Ruff - the show missed the point... the author wrote this inspired by when he and a black friend had been talking and he realized that because of skin color that while they occupied the same space, they lived in "different countries"

god ambrosi would NOT have tumblr hes too old for that 😭but if he did it would just be photos from his porch
adele would have a tumblr to post music on and at the start of the story she stop posting and then comes back at the end with a "sorry for the hiatus! i have a partner now and so much trauma"
odette canonically is a musician on youtube [think annapantsu] so et would just be posting as normal as if things arent going terribly wrong, so song covers and lil aesthetic reblogs
im not including the kids ones 5, ones 9 and the other is illiterate sobs none of them are getting tumblr, reuben also doesnt have a phone so hes not included but if he did have a phone hed be jsut posting blurry photos of the horrors
gabriel would just have a tumblr to reblog odettes posts to be proud of et, also would not be acknowledging the horrors
sasha would have a shitty meme tumblr i KNOW he would it would be full of things that were funny in 2011 and then reuben would steal his phone and post shit on it and get yelled at

madeleine is the only one with a fandom blog and ey starts posting "who would have thunk being hunted for sport sucks o_O" and eir posts take off
eran would be vagueposting about everyone and then reblogging gothic aesthetic shit
bernard would only use tumblr at the start as he tries to make a gofundme post and then the horrors happen
lenore would be reblogging all those post of like links to recipe pages and then stop posting for a week and come back with 5 million vent posts
maddie would get kung pow penised so fast
anyway for my favourite scene its gotta be the one at the motel!
ill set the scene: bernard has just seen his sisters blood hit the window of their motel room, he has his daughter in the room with him and this weird kid she befriended but his 5 year old son is Still Out There Somewhere, hes terrified, he doesnt know whats happening, all he knows is something is RIGHT outside, so he does the only thing he can think of: he grabs the two kids in the room and drags them into the closet with him, theres barely enough room but theres no where else that he can think of that will protect them from the fate waiting outside, the bathroom is too open and out in the room is as well, he hears his daughter tell him hes holding her too tight, that hes hurting her, but he cant let go, he just apologises and holds her tighter, desperately hoping that whatever that thing thats claw is scratching the window will leave
