[I.D.: a gif from Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha ViVid of Vivio’s transformation. Vivio steps backward twice on a dark blue starry background, in a glowing white and pastel rainbow silhouette. Rainbow feathers come out in bursts when she steps, and the bottom of her cape unfurls, before the silhouette style disappears and her clothes turn to their normal colors in an explosion of feathers. The next shot is of her upper body. Her coat is forming in the rainbow silhouette style, and flashes into its normal colors as she punches forward with a grin. / end I.D.]

god my dad went on a tangent about why personalised plates are a useless and ridiculous display of wealth and that its wrong that spending money on such an official thing can result in being treated differently by the government etc. and while that is all true, is that the hill you want to die on? is that the battle youre picking? bc some stupid people think having ‘vroom’ on their plate is cool or funny? like there are people suffering and dying bc of how rich people treat their employees or their apathy towards people who are in serious need of help but sure. be angry about some dick having ‘alpha’ on the back of his car

absolutely nobody asked for this, but it took me an age to figure out how to make comic-y effect gifs and its surprisingly easy to do so here's a tutorial
this is a pretty long post so it's under read more
make your gif - including sharpening layers but don't colour it just yet - for this example I'm using a gif I quickly made of of Klaus
Tumblr media
2. Paste this gif into a new document - it won't work in timeline mde
Tumblr media
3. go to filter -> filter gallery -> choose poster edges and have your settings as 0, 0, 3
Tumblr media
4. next go to filter -> stylize -> oil painting and make your settings 3, 1.5, 8.9, 8.7 and make sure lighting is off
Tumblr media
5. (optional) I added halftone to my gifs for an extra comic-y look, but it's not necessary to add - my settings were 4 for max radius and 45 for all the channels
Tumblr media
this will look weird so click the two white arrows next to the filter name and set the blend mode to soft light and opacity to 30
Tumblr media
6. Ctrl + J the gif layer into the same document and turn all the filters off the top layer
Tumblr media
7. double click the filter gallery filter on the top gif and set it to 1, 2, 1
Tumblr media
8. now image -> adjustments -> threshold and adjust until you find a decent amount of detail and lines, I put mine at 29 which seems to work for most gifs I made
Tumblr media
9. I moved the threshold filter to just above my filter gallery filter and double clicked the oil painting filter on the top gif with the new settings being 3.2, 1.5, 8.2, 8.7 (and lighting still off)
Tumblr media
10. Set the top gif blend mode to multiply
Tumblr media
11. press create video timeline and voila, you've got a comic-y gif
Tumblr media
here's the result!
Tumblr media
and with a little colouring

on anon since i dont wanna be mde fun of but ive had detailed premonitions ever since i was a child, mostly warnings of things, and i havent been wrong before which i find especially strange. i dont dream much, but when i do, half the time their so abstract i know its metaphorical, and the other time its incredibly realistic and down to earth. you get a sense in your chest when you wake up to one of those and you know its a premonition because things just fall into place in a certain way. its very off-putting? im not spiritual for the most part its just weird
the one i remember most was predicting my dads cancer diagnosis.
in the dream i woke up early and got dry cereal because the fridge was broken, then got the news around midday. then i woke up really early irl and was like huh! weird lol. then the fridge broke and i was like huh! okay im worried and then my dad got news and i was like Ah shit. well thats weird isnt it. has happened a couple times since
psychic parapsychological experiences are also something im fascinated by! im skeptical of them as well, but less so than the supernatural. idk anything dealing with... perception of time(?) i am a little more "well it COULD be real" about. its like sea monsters it just seems a little silly to be staunch on What Is Out There like man idk the water is pretty deep and the mind is pretty complex how can i be sure?
sucks that its offputting, and that you ever predict bad news, but it makes sense itd feel and seem strange and maybe not always be so great. such is life i suppose

False didn't want to know. She'd heard, of course, about the skulk. About Cub. About the skulk spreading all over his base. It brought back memories she didn't want to think about. Not- not memories about, well. Well, okay, maybe memories about Cub spreading skulk all over the place, but also - more so - well. Her, really. Her sister. Sister? God, she wasn't really sure what she was anymore.
But that was two worlds away, right? She was- she would be fine. Away from her.
-
In spite of herself, she went to Cub's base and perched high on the mountainside, looking at how far the skulk had spread. It was- horrifying, really. And no one was really stopping it, or feeling concerned about this. Was False the only one worried? Was she just overreacting? Yes, of course she was.
But-
-
Gingerly, she flew down closer, seeing the straight roads and the blue fire and the deathly silence the skulk brought, even when this wasn't the right biome. It just ate sound completely. Even the fires sounded soft, muted, as if they were actually fifty blocks away. It was weird. Especially given the building styles Cub had used for the rest of his base. Sure, you could argue that the dark skulk made the bright colours all the more vivid, but there wasn't any hint of a coherent style anywhere.
It just felt-
-
She left, of course. She didn't like how it felt, being so close to the skulk. She got back to her base, focused on the circles, the dark oak, just the-
She had to pause as she caught her reflection in the water, and saw- her. It startled her so much she threw her sword into the water, breaking the reflection. No. No, she wasn't- she can't be. Right?
-
The water felt- odd. Her briefcase felt weird. Oddly heavier than usual. A new river had appeared, perhaps? Maybe that was it. Yeah. Maybe she didn't see someone else's hands as she cut down more dark oak, placed down more copper, set the portal tower on fire as if some great calamity had-
-
The fire was what triggered it all. She fled into her starter house, hiding under the blankets like a frightened child. No. Nononono. Fire danced in her mind. She had thought she'd repressed all those. Blasted them out of her mind the same way she'd done to-
But all she could smell was burning. Hear explosions. See the carnage left behind in the wreckage of her tower. Underneath her base. All the people who'd died because of her. It was- no, she was responsible, she killed those people!
And yet, when she stared at her own hands, they dripped with blood. After all, who locked her in there in the first place?
-
False returned to the skulk. Sat on the edge. Reached out to touch it a little, feel the sticky veins clinging to her skin, as if hungry to devour her soul. She wasn't sure it would be any good for it, but perhaps that was beside the point.
-
"Hey False, you okay?"
She looked up to see Cub landing before her. She shrugged. "Oh, you know." She gestured helplessly.
"It's not the skulk is it? Bringing it all back, hey?" Cub said.
She shook her head. "No, no, not- well. Sort of. You know. Just- wasn't expecting all the skulk, that's all."
"Yeah, it is maybe an odd choice, but I dunno, I think it looks better than the grass here, don't you think?" Cub said, coming to sit beside her.
"Yeah, I guess so. Makes the colours pop, that kind of thing," she said.
"Yeah! You see it!" Cub said. "It makes them so bright, I love it!"
-
"Hey, Cub, do you ever think about the crossover? And what happened there?" False said, staring at the ground.
"Every now and then, sure. They were good times, good times," Cub said.
"Even though I saved you from the skulk?"
Cub shrugged. "I mde my peace with it. What about you, though? I heard there was some kind of imposter over there? Another False?"
False brought her knees up to her chest. She frowned. "It's complicated."
"Oh, was Scar right when he said it was a clone or something?"
"I mean..."
-
"Was it Area 77? Or before that?" Cub asked.
"I don't think I even remember anymore. But probably. I-I didn't mean to, like. She-she was just meant to be like-"
Cub rubbed her back softly. They were sitting on his bed in his starter house now, having needed to retreat from the night. False leaned against him, reaching for his hand. Cub linked their fingers together.
"I dunno why I find it so hard to talk to anyone other than you about this. It's not like you even really understand, but- I dunno. You were there, I guess. You saw what was going on there. You know. You get it," she said. "You know what it's like to be kept in the dark."
"Hm, maybe."
She was right back in Falsewell then. Cub - well, he looked different back then, but his energy had never changed. The two of them standing by the motel, trying to catch a glance of anything inside Area 77. Wondering.
-
She'd started crying as the fire returned. Cub offered to help. Maybe she held his hand tight as he used some of those Vex powers to make her forget. Maybe it didn't quite work, but maybe it was enough to dampen the flames.
She'd do it again, of course. If she ever came back, if she ever found her here, she'd do the same again. She had to. She was too dangerous.
There was no way she could get here, of course, there was no Grumbot, no Rift, no way to connect to that world, but-
-
"She's probably so lonely, isn't she? Stuck there on her own?" she murmured into the darkness. Cub's body was a heater that she needed right now.
"Maybe, maybe. You'd still leave her there, wouldn't you?"
She nodded.
"Well, there you go."

the people who say that new fans of Jake and Johnnie are weird/rude make me so mad. Just because you’re a new fan doesn’t mean that you’re a weird fan. I’ve seen so many new fans be so sweet. I’ll admit some fans can be weird. But why do we have to blame the new fans. Are you guys just mad that it’s not just a little fanbase that just you and a few other watchers are in? Why can’t the whole entire fandom just get along why do we always have to have drama. And plus. I’ve saw way more old fans being rude than these “new fans” everybody’s talking about. Why can’t people just be in a fandom without being hated on. Just because you watched Johnnie since MDE doesn’t mean you’re not a toxic fan.

I binged watched part 2 of The Glory and I have THOUGHTS and OPINIONS but overall liked part 2 a ton, really need Song Hye-kyo and Jung Sung Il to be in another drama where they get to fuck nasty tho saw someone say a spy thing and now all I can think about is a Korean remake of Mr and Mrs Smith staring them
anyway thoughts and opinions, obviously spoilers and some unpopular opinions to boot:
so like, off the bat I am firmly neutral on the JYJ and MDE romance. Sorry y’all. I thought some of their romantic moments were just out of place tonally in the show - the fondue scene especially with the standard kdrama romance music playing, the running hug scene, both come to mind - I wished the show leaned into the dark romance aspects more. Like, my issue with JYJ is he’s way way way more interesting when he’s unhinged and covered in blood. But the show seemed determined to make him a “green flag” which is a term I’m growing increasingly eye-rolly with in fandom which made him way more boring and also inconsistent.
I was actually salty he didn’t get to stab anyone! Why tease me with a murder knife drawer and not do anything with it??? His best moment was when he put PYJ under and was so wonderfully creepy and intimidating. That was peak. That was his best moment for me in part 2 and the rest was kinda...meh? I didn’t want him to be cutely romantic I wanted him to be secretly unhinged!! Him being a ~green flag~ was meh his other best moment of the show was his monologue to his father’s murderer. Literally one of the best moments of the show and 100% his best moment as a character. I wanted more of THAT and less of him simping after MDE tbh.
That said, I’m not like against their romance or anything it’s just firmly - fine. It’s fine.
I’m also very meh/eye-rolling over the concept of a woman being a man’s savior and salvation. I find that trope really boring tbh
It was nice to see MDE have a partner in crime, and I did like the tent scene with them. I think if there’s fic written if it’s fluff squeecore fic I’ll pass but I’d love a take on them that embraced the darker aspects of YJY’s character. Like dude was an obsessed stalker - which is another reason this green flag thing is weird to me - after spending like what 3 months with MDE if she didn’t like him and also wasn’t a bit unhinged herself he’d be a horror movie char lol like he moved entire ass cities to be closer to her without telling her and lied to her about knowing So-Hee’s mom all in a longcon effort to get closer to her like embrace the unhinged!
Anyways
We didn’t get much of HDY and MDE this part but know what, I really liked how subtle their relationship was tbh like HDY taking off his shoes before entering her home was a peak moment for me. It’s subtle, but it was a bit of kindness that was so often and so thoroughly denied MDE repeatedly. And obviously that meant a lot to her b/c she was willing to drop her whole ass extended revenge plot and give PYJ a chance to turn herself in. I liked that he didn’t immediately divorce PYJ too b/c it gave him all the opportunity to slowly and symmetrically tear her apart emotionally.
Like, PYJ realized she actually loved this man, so knowing that MDE got into his head and heart - I loved that he basically admitted yeah he had an emotional affair with her - was clearly so damaging for her ego. And that’s what PYJ cares about most, her ego, her image, her self-preservation. And I loved how HDY tore that down every chance he got. He knows about her affair, he knows HYS true parentage, he knows all her little secrets and when she tries to defend herself he gives her rope to hang herself with it. And she does b/c of course she does!! Oh it was great.
It shows that PYJ’s idea of love is possession. She’s mad HDY cheated on her, without considering her years long affair with JJJ. She loves her daughter, but not enough to take TWO, TWO different chances to actually protect her daughter (sidenote loved that both MDE and HDY gave PYJ two different chances to take responsibility for her action and make amends and both times she spat in their faces) and she denied them.
Also what the heck is up with the fact that Mr “Who Should I Kill For You First” didn’t kill a single bitch but HDY killed one of the MAIN bitches??? Like, I loved it but what the heck??? That said would’ve really liked a follow up or sideways scene where MDE gave HDY the info on JJJ and that she knew~ he killed JJJ. I think they should’ve had a final scene together like that b/c it didn’t make much sense to me how JJJ got out of that car accident and ended up at that construction site where HDY followed and killed him after. Plus it didn’t make sense to me that MDE wouldn’t have kept tabs on JJJ and would have left his fate ambiguous like that. He was the one most loyal to PYJ and probably the only person who wouldn’t abandon her in the long run so like, that felt like a weird missing piece to the ending.
I’m glad PYJ didn’t die tho, I’m kinda meh on main villains always dying tbh sometimes it really works - like JJJ’s death - but other times it feels like an easy out for them. I’m glad she’s in prison suffering especially not knowing one of the people she killed she actually didn’t. Knowledge that MDE can hold over her forever. I loved that I loved that was PYJ’s endgame.
All that said, I wish the show incorporated more of the publics viewing of PYJ in her downfall. I think The Devil Judge and Hellbound did this way better with how social media and the news really influence the public perception. We got that one news conference and that was it but like I wanted more. I wanted to see more of the public takedown of the crew and have all the victims smiling as they listen to the gossip and chatter around them.
Everyone’s fates were pretty dope though. KHN was a highlight, so glad her husband is dead, she didn’t forgive his ass in the end, and she’s happier now. She’s one of the best characters of the show, the way she flourished and grew - that SLAP she gave PYJ like no one topped that - was just amazing to see. HDY and his adorable daughter going to UK was so earned (made no sense but earned), the crew’s different deaths like loved that for all of them hahahah suffer. Glad MDE found happiness and fulfilment at the end with YJY.
My last and only quibble with the finale was two things: 1) I wanted a follow up scene with Soo-Hee’s mom and MDE I think this was a hugely missed opportunity tbh like for MDE to tell SH’s mom we got them all not just PYJ but all of them went down you’re daughter can rest now. I was really disappointed we didn’t get this. 2) I really disliked how the last 20/30mins was dedicated to like a long set-up of a potential s2 about YJY’s revenge. Idk this was MDE’s story and it felt like the ending stopped being about her and became about an ad to watch a potential s2. It dragged on and on and I felt there were other things we could’ve explored instead to really wrap MDE’s story up completely.
Overall, hands down one of the best kdramas I’ve watched and a high fave.

Maybe it'd be a bit of a cop-out, but what if all of the Chaos Council except for Mr. Dr. Eggman are only highly-advanced humanlike robots, hence why MDE is arguably the most fleshed out of them?
That's an interesting take! The only thing that's weird is that Mr. Dr. Eggman seems to treat the rest of the council as equals and is even willing to share territory with them, kinda weird thing to do if they're robots you made.
Unless he created the council as a means to multiply his genius and gain the advantage required to conquer everything, so they ARE his equals. Or who knows? Maybe he was just lonely

Hello OMG I loved your first kiss headcanons! I think your portrayal of the characters was spot on :) Since you mentioned that you'd be willing to write a longer piece if requested, do you think you could do one for either Travis or Dylan (with a GN reader) please? They're both my favorite 🥰
❦Playlist for Us❦
Pairing: Dylan Lenivy x GN!Reader
Warnings: slight angst but mostly fluff

DJ Dylan, usually so confident, but right now he was fragile. Truly, Dylan was insecure but he always hid it behind a funny confident exterior but truly, he hated himself. He never imagined that anyone would want anything to do with him, especially after he watched Ryan choose to kiss Kaitlyn instead of him. Of course it was just a dumb game of truth or dare, he was even the one to suggest playing it, but something about watching Ryan and Kaitlyn hurt him.
It hurt him enough to make him storm off from the party back to the lodge. That's where he was now, sitting on the steps of the lodge, his earbuds in his ear blasting whatever playlist caught his eyes first. He stared out into the deep woods in front of him, would anyone be able to find him if he disappeared into the trees? Would it really be a loss? Maybe his parents would care if he disappeared.
Y/N would care, he thought. You were his best friend, known each other since you were kids. You two had practically been attached at the hip since birth. Your parents were friends, basically making you and Dylan be friends.
Still though during this summer, it was like you wanted nothing to do with him. You were always running off with Jacob or helping Abi with her art class, even Ryan you got along with. He scrolled on his phone looking at the playlist he selected 'A playlist for a certain Y/N', of course he just had to pick the one he mde for you. Not that you ever saw it though, it was full of your favourite songs but when he went to show it to you, you had told him you were too busy helping Kaitlyn.
Dylan did like you, he's liked you since you two were ten. But he's always been too much of a coward to say anything, he always thought that you deserved someone better than him. Someone that doesn't run off crying when a guy he likes kisses someone else. That doesn't make stupid jokes that no one finds funny. That you deserved someone like Jacob or Nick.
"You checking off angsty music listening on your goals for life?" Dylan jumped violently turning his head to look at you. Had you followed him here? He had been here quite a while, had you just been staring at him?
Dylan raised a hand to his beating fratic heart, trying to calm down, "jesus christ Y/N. I was about to scream 'bear'."
"Yeah sure you were," you chuckled walking over to the steps where Dylan was sitting, he pulled one of his ear buds out handing it to you as you accepted it gratefully plugging it into your right ear.
You two sat there in silence, listening to the music and looking out to the woods. Your hand fell to your side as you leaned back against the step, jolting your hand away suddenly when you felt it collide with Dylan's.
Staring at each other, you chuckled apologizing, "sorry."
Dylan shook his head, "no it's fine, if you wanna keep it there it's fine, I liked it." Realizing what he said, Dylan shook his head again trying to think of an excuse, "I'm just a little cold that's all, your hot. No, I mean your hand, it's warm. Not that you aren't hot, I mean you are, but I would never call you that because that's weird, but you are-"
Laughing, you lifted your finger to cover Dylan's lips, "Dylan if you thought I was hot, you could have just said that." You looked away slightly, muttering under your breath, "you aren't that bad yourself."
Dylan's eyebrows raised in surprise, "you think I'm-"
"Who couldn't," you cut him off, looking at him seriously. You never understood why Dylan was so insecure, he looked just fine. You always thought he was funny, he didn't have to be perfect at everything. It was Ryan's loss for not seeing how good of a person Dylan is.
However you would be lying if you said that Ryan kissing Kailtyn meant nothing to you. It was actually kind of a blessing, it meant you actually might have a chance. You sucked in a breath, "I mean you're Dylan Lenivy. You know how many girls thought you were just 'the man' in high school? How many guys were jealous of all the attention you got from girls?"
"You know I wasn't interested in them though?" Dylan asked.
"Obviously, you never even paid them a glance," you answered. You looked at Dylan, noticing the tears that were going down his face even in the dark, "why are you crying?"
Dylan looked away from you abrumptly, almost shameful. I Love You So by The Walters started to play quietly in your right ear as you sucked in a breath, leaning on your elbows listening to Dylan quietly try to muffle his cries beside you.
You were never great at comforting but you did your best at an attempt. You raised your hand landing it on Dylan's knee, keeping your eyes down on the ground, softly kicking a pebble on the stairs down to the rest of the gravel.
"I wish you saw yourself the way I do," you sighed, making Dylan look at you out of the corner of his blurry tears filled eyes, "you are perfect, and if Ryan can't see that than fuck him."
"This isn't about Ryan," Dylan hiccuped as he wiped his tears from his eyes.
"Than who is it about?"
"Someone."
"Well that's obvious," you rolled your eyes, "come on Dylan, I've known you since you were the snotty kid crying ontop of the monkey bars because some kids dared you to climb up them and than started crying when the bell went and you couldn't get down making me run to the principal's office for help."
Dylan playfully glared shoving your shoulder, "you promised to never speak of that day again!"
You chuckled, poking your tongue out at him, "my fingers were crossed."
It was quiet again, you two just looked at each other. You admired him, you've liked Dylan ever since you two were going to go to prom but you got stood up by your date so Dylan dropped his date and took you showing you the night of your life. You still remembered when Dylan showed you a secret way to the roof of your high school and you two sat up there in your prom attire listening to the music downstairs and just goofing around.
That was the day you realized how much you actually liked Dylan. You liked the feeling of his hands around your waist with your head on his shoulder while you two swayed to the music. You liked how easily he could make you laugh with the stupidest shit like when he stuffed two straws in his nostrils and said he was a walrus. Or when a guy at the prom started being harassing with you and Dylan quickly defended you, threatening to knock the guy out if he even came near you again.
You were actually going to tell him how felt over the summer while you two were councillors but than you saw how close he was to Ryan and than he would rant for hours about Ryan. You were truly happy for Dylan that he liked someone that wasn't the picture of Kurt Kobain in his bedroom but it still hurt knowing that he loved someone else.
"Remember prom," You questioned.
Dylan laughed, oh you could listen to his laugh for hours, "you mean I shoved a straw in my nose and called myself a walrus and than got yelled at for being immature by Mrs Hamilton for 20 minutes?"
"Eh Mrs Hamilton was a bitch anyway," you shrugged, "you know she gave me a B- on my english report she didn't like the paper I printed it on?"
"I never understood what kind of stick was in her ass," Dylan looked at you. You watched his tongue dart out of his mouth for a second, licking his lips before darting back into his mouth. Music still playing in your ear, you weren't even focused on the song at this point.
You were just hypnotized by his lips, you needed to know what they felt like, even if this would ruin the lifetime friendship you two had.
"Can I do something?" You asked curiously, Dylan looked at you confused before nodding. You nodded in response, scooting closer to him till your knees were touching on the steps of the lodge.
You raised your hand to Dylan's cheek, he looked away almost shamefully like he couldn't believe what you were trying to do. Like maybe this was just some cruel prank the group was playing.
"Tell me to stop," you said, making Dylan look at you again as your thumb carassed his cheek. Instictively he leaned into your touch, strands of his hair falling into his face but he didn't seem to mind as he stared into your eyes.
"What if I don't want you to?" He asked, feeling your thumb trace over his lips. Dylan took this as a sign, fluttering his eyes closed as he felt your warm breath on his face. He turned his face to the side as he felt his nose brush yours before he felt our lips on his own
At first he let you take control. Dylan's lips gently press against yours, as if he's is afraid he'll break you if he uses anymore force. You kiss him back slowly and feel your cheeks burning. Dylan's soft lips move in sync with yours, not too fast, and you smile against them. You're the one to pull away and look at him, smiling with you as he gently presses his forehead to yours, his hair brushing over his face. You nuzzle your nose against his and hear him chuckle softly.
“You’re so beautiful/handsome,” Dylan whispers, his fingers gently tracing your side, stroking it delicately, “I want you to remember that I will always be your best friend, even if stuff doesn't work this way."
“I will,” you whisper. Your lips reconnect with his. You move them against his agonizingly slowly. His hand lets go of yours and cups your left cheek and squeezes your waist. His lips are as soft as the softest pillows. They remind you of the sweetest simplest times. They are gentle and careful once more. His fingers gently rested against your skin and his nose brushed against yours, sending tingles down your spine. You pull away and gasp for air, not realizing you hadn’t been breathing until that moment.
Dylan holds your waist in his hand, grabbing his phone opening his spotify, "I was gonna give this to you earlier but-" Seeing the screen and reading the playlist name, you smiled brightly hugging Dylan in a bone crushing hug, feeling his hands go up and down your back.
"See what did I say? You're perfect."

mafia trilogy gameplay review
alright, here’s my full series review + my hopes for mafia 4 from a purely gameplay perspective (well, mostly).  fair warning, this is not entirely spoiler free and also long as hell–over five thousand words–so click read more at your own risk.
mafia tcolh
unfortunately i have not played the original (yet), so i can’t give a real review, but i have heard about the optional end-of-chapter missions from lucas bertone to unlock new cars and about the extremely detailed free ride, including enemies spawning across the city and the game saving your progress, which i think are great features that (presumably) allow you to take your time with the game and provide replay value that isn’t just doing the same missions over and over or pointlessly driving around.  it’s 21 chapters and i’ve heard it’s a pretty damn difficult game–player preference is gonna vary on that obviously, but overall i get the impression it’s meant to take some time to beat at least on your first playthrough.
mafia 2
coming in at 15 chapters (the first of which was the rather short and partly intended as a tutorial), it seems to be a significantly faster experience than its predecessor and it didn’t take me long at all to finish.  replaying has been a weird experience because i honestly don’t really even like a solid third of the chapters (1, 6, and the last three), but the game is near and dear to my heart.  while i have seen reports (and videos) of serious glitching, i never encountered any.  one note is that the lack of character tags in subtitles was annoying because sometimes it’s hard to differentiate voices (drunk eddie and joe is my biggest gripe).
open world & graphics: whether snow-covered in 1945 or sunny in 1951, empire bay is a truly beautiful city, the npc behavior is very detailed (which can make for some funny experiences if you notice it), and there’s generally a lot to do if you wander around, but the lack of a free ride mode and lack of downtime during chapters leaves little opportunity to actually do it.  i didn’t feel like i had much chance to explore or just hang out in the game world, and like i said before, the experience feels kind of rushed, especially on a replay where you know what’s coming next; i really wish we got more time in the 1945 segment because the winter atmosphere and freddy’s bar were really nice, and there was too little chance to experience them.  if you die at the end of a chapter while fucking around you generally have to replay the last mission, which seriously discourages exploration and is frankly a stupid feature.  there are diners, clothing shops, gun stores, auto shops etc around the city, which is really nice if you’re just hanging out, but i personally never found myself using them much (aside from the auto shop and clothing store once or twice apiece outside the prompts to use them in ch2 and ch7 respectively) because there just didn’t seem to be much time for it, and also because you lose all your stuff multiple times throughout the game, so it feels a little pointless (and it’s easy to accumulate guns from fallen enemies, but tbh i did that in every game).  i’d love to go see giuseppe or harry in my off time (which you’re clearly intended to do as there’s some secret dialogue), but there didn’t seem to be much off time.  overall, a lovely open world with detailed settings and interactivity that we had far too little chance to enjoy.  working mirrors, though!
combat: i appreciated the limitless gun arsenal (being able to carry both a rifle and machine gun was nice) but found switching weapons to be kind of clunky (unless i just suck ass at the controls), for some reason i felt significantly worse at shooting compared to MDE, and honestly the melee fighting sucked.  it’s extremely similar to la noire, so i guess maybe it was standard for the time, but it seems the strategy is to just hold down block at all times except when throwing a punch, and the fact you can end up just endlessly circling each other with nobody landing a hit both a) got boring real fast and b) ruined the immersion for me.  and no knives/bats/other melee weapons, really?  not to mention we only got one chance for stealth gameplay (ch3), and...tbh it just didn’t really do it for me.  it took me forever the first time because i took henry’s statement of “no killing” to mean i wasn’t allowed to do stealth takedowns either, but on a replay when i did stealth attack it was honestly a little too easy.  as for the healing system, as much as i love food in games, the “eat/drink to heal” and the way your health fills up significantly if you just wait a few seconds made healing feel like a non-issue for the most part; i joke about the floor sandwiches but i never actually found any, going to diners between missions to boost my health a little didn’t feel worth it ever (i only ever ate at the very end of chapters, basically), and mostly my strategy was just to duck and cover while i waited for vito's bar to refill.  i didn’t hate it but i think it could’ve been done better.
cars: they handled pretty well once i got the hang of driving, and the snowy roads handling different was nice attention to detail.  the customization was fantastic, and i have to say i love the garage system; it was really nice to be able to store cool cars when i snagged one off the street–and speaking of which, the lock-picking requiring effort was a bit of a pain but in a good way, so overall a nice touch.  the speed limiter was also helpful, especially for the bit with the cigarette truck.  no joke, i LOVED other characters (joe and henry mainly) whining about my driving (if anything it made me drive worse!)
police behavior: the lingering wanted status for both cars and people, while an absolute pain in the ass, added a lot more realism and tension.  having to sneak home after the jewelry store job was, though irritating as hell, exciting.  it also gives you more reason to use the clothing stores and auto shops.  was honestly kind of surprised this wasn’t in other games.  mostly i don’t remember the cops being too hard to get rid of, or having any other gripes about their programming.
hud: i hated the minimap honestly; it was hard to read, it didn’t show if enemies were on your level or above/below, and it didn’t show friendly npcs.  it also just kinda looked bad.  the health bar was confusing as hell at first too but i did eventually figure it out; it looked neat though and it didn’t take up much room.  overall the hud was kinda ugly but that’s just me.  i don’t recall if you can disable it (i never tried) but a quick google suggests no, at least not without mods, which sucks.
soundtrack/radio: fantastic.  lovely score though not my favorite (ending song was a gut punch, though).  wildly chronologically inaccurate licensed music, but most good fifties songs came out after ‘51 so i don’t care (hell, if they’d been accurate it likely wouldn’t have been distinct enough from the ‘45 songs).  the choice of scripted songs was very well done and the radio stations were very distinct–having djs with clear personalities was awesome.  introduced me to some cool songs (billy merman cover of 900 miles, my beloved) and the amount of little richard was much appreciated.  the radio ads were more tolerable than in m3, or i remember them that way.  wasn’t too fond of how, unlike the other games, the radio does NOT continue to play in big map screen and instead it plays its own, honestly very creepy map theme.  on an additional sound design note, the police sirens in this were really really eerie to me, which was neat.
dlcs: i have not played the dlcs and i don’t really intend to.  i’ve not heard good things about them and there was a huge lost opportunity for expansion upon the story, especially with the jimmy stuff (my gripe there is mostly that it’s a completely alternate universe).
final thoughts: overall, despite being evidently a fan-favorite nowadays, in my honest opinion i think it’s kind of the weakest of the (original) series as a video game (still one of my favorite pieces of media).  this has been largely forgotten and i was not at all involved in the series when 2 came out, but i’ve heard it was largely hated by diehard tcolh fans at first only to gain popularity later.  i truly loved the characters and the setting but i really wish we got more time with them, i wish so much content hadn’t been cut, and i wish it didn’t have that lingering unfinished feeling.
mafia 3
wildly different gameplay than the first two games, and while a lot of players hated that, honestly i loved it.  it was a lot easier to take my time with it, and while the missions could get a bit grindy (not something i personally minded, but compared to earlier games i see why it could be an issue), there were some cool locations and you could at least decide how you wanted to go about it, something made easier by the solo gameplay.  the more structured end-of-district missions were cool as hell, though tbh i don’t think i’d want it to be all scripted like that.  on the other hand, it did get very lonely at times with nobody to ride along you and chat during missions, something that became extremely obvious upon playing the dlcs where i had donovan & roxy with me.  i have experienced glitches with this one, a couple of which required restarting missions, but nothing truly game-breaking.  the fact it always turns off my subtitles when i first boot it up is irritating as hell though.  character tags for dialogue subs were nice.
open world & graphics: imo the best open-world hands down, it gave you so much room to explore and i love just existing in new bordeaux; feels like home somehow, at least for me.  the existence of the fuse boxes you wiretap and useful collectibles like the circuit plugs, tac vests, adrenaline shots, and random wads of cash (lol) in addition to a ton of purely aesthetic ones encouraged exploration even if you aren’t normally a collector (which tbh i’m not).  you’re getting on rooftops, on balconies, in alleyways, in stores and diners, in random people’s backyards and even houses; i’ve said it before but it appeals so strongly to my urge to get into shit that i can’t irl.  and don’t get me started on the boats, that rocked (i think more games should have boats).  the lack of stuff to do in stores (besides rob the cash register and maybe grab collectibles) was kind of disappointing, especially given i’d probably make way more use of them in this than in m2, but being able to visit the underbosses & lieutenants whenever still scratched the “go interact with people” itch, and the assistants (jb/betty/hank) you could call was a very convenient way of doing things.  i also appreciated the random npc conversations and the way npcs on the street will say things to you that sometimes lincoln will respond to (those quick exchanges like “how’re you doing?”) added a lot of atmosphere.  the districts had really distinct vibes not just in terms of architecture but also how the npcs looked and acted.  i appreciated the random enemies and allies hanging around, felt very dynamic.  a truly, truly beautiful game too, though the mirrors don’t work.  the weather system was also really nice, although i wish there was a way to sleep through nights/storms because they can be kind of a pain to fight in (or sleep till night, if you want to work under cover of dark); while we’re on the topic, the fact lincoln seems to (technically) stay awake for weeks on end does get real weird whenever i think about it; it also would’ve been nice to see food in game just for atmospheric reasons, even though i liked the health system as mentioned below.
combat: gunplay was generally satisfying and felt balanced, and while the inability to carry more than two guns (one big, one small) is a little annoying, it didn’t bother me all that much once i found ones i liked.  the stealth gameplay was hands-down my favorite; you had way more opportunity to do it, you could take on enemy territory as you pleased and find multiple ways into the target location, the survival knife tbh makes for some incredibly satisfying stealth kills, and the whistle feature is a godsend.  it’s also very fun to get a bunch of enemies all riled up and actively searching for you, if you want to give yourself a challenge.  the “q to punch, left alt to dodge” melee was far preferred to mafia 2’s mouse-clicking, as it made fights go a lot quicker and forced me to actually stay on my toes dodging (it’s harder and i’m worse at it, but it feels much more realistic and overall more satisfying).  intel view was much appreciated and is also closely tied to lincoln’s army background (and donovan’s bootleg cia setup, presumably), though i could see how it might arguably make things too easy.  personally i hate struggling to find enemies so i liked it.  the throwable weapons are fantastic (throwing knives and screaming zemis my beloved), loads of variety, though the knives are a pain to find again if you miss your target and i wasn’t sure how the hell to use some of the others (landmines, namely).  i fucking love that lincoln can swim; saved my ass a few times, and tbh i’d love more gaming protags who don’t insta-drown.  the alligators were a nice touch if annoying (i almost died to them a couple times lol).  as far as healing goes, the collectable adrenaline shots that you could administer in battle combined with the mild regen was nicely done and let you stock up before big fights; immediate healing saved my ass loads of times, and it was possibly my favorite way of doing things out of all the games.  the enemy (marcanos, dixie mafia, ensanglante) retaliation was also a very cool feature.  overall the combat was by far my favorite of the trilogy.
cars: the cars handled very nicely, the best out of the series imo, which i guess is a product of the 1968 setting.  the slow-motion driving, though i don’t use it much, has saved my ass a few times and let me pull off some neat stunts and is quite a unique feature.  there were some cool unlockable cars but the lack of customization for random ones off the street and lack of a garage system was pretty damn disappointing.  i didn’t notice if wet roads drove any differently than dry (i don’t believe so?) but it would’ve been cool if they did.  i got my tires shot out a lot which was irritating.  the rearview mirror was a nice touch but i do wish you could turn it off.  no speed limiter, i don’t think?
police behavior: the way police responded wildly differently depending on different neighborhoods was brilliant storytelling, and you could really tell the difference–you should’ve seen me trying to steal a car in frisco fields before i had the lockpicking perk, confident i could escape before the cops even showed up like i had in other neighborhoods, only to get instantly swarmed and have to tear out of there so fast i ended up wrecking the damn car (the air i caught before doing so, though–chef’s kiss).  now that’s variety baby!  hell, in frisco i kept getting random cops on my ass when civilians heard my gunshots during side missions, and they didn’t give up easy.  the fact that the blue attention arrow (you know the one i mean?) showed up regardless of whether they were after you or not was a brilliant bit of environmental storytelling that really drove home the fact lincoln was being watched even when he did nothing wrong.  the way it did search zones was well done too.  the lack of a lingering wanted feature, though it made my life a hell of a lot easier, is a bit unrealistic; might’ve been interesting if you only got it in high-cop-activity neighborhoods like frisco.  i appreciated the extent to which they search for you, as annoying as it was; it added drama.  absolute hell to ditch them in car chases though, which was noticeable considering the random mob/cult retaliation cars were usually fairly easy to leave in the dust.
hud: much preferable minimap to 2–it showed you if npcs were above/below you as well as showing allies in addition to enemies & cops, was easy to read, and also just looked nicer lol.  the health bar was extremely easy to read.  it would be real nice if you could disable the damn things without mods, though; sometimes a man wants to take a fucking screenshot!  overall, very legible if a bit bland.
soundtrack/radio: killer!  the score itself is gorgeous, and the collection of licensed songs is fantastic (i’m a huge sucker for ‘60s music though).  very careful attention to chronological accuracy, and the choice of songs during cutscenes and specific missions (del shannon’s “runaway” while escaping with álvarez!) was great.  all three radio stations had very distinct character; djs would’ve been nice but it’s not a huge gripe.  the station sweepers were cool but the commercials were annoying as all fuck.  the uncle lou ad going off air after you kill him was a nice touch (and a relief lmao).  the voice and remy had very well-written shows (like, fuck remy, but his persona was believable), but they ran way longer than my drives across the map so i ended up awkwardly waiting in the car to listen, then getting impatient and giving up–a downside of the lack of scripted driving.  “all along the watch tower” as a title song was a hell of a choice, and it worked.
dlcs: the dlcs were well-integrated into the story and gameplay, brought some really unique content without feeling too forced, introduced characters whose presence made sense.  they gave you stuff to do outside the main storyline that was really nice when i felt like dicking around without progressing the plot.  sammy’s bar renovations gave me something to spend my cash on, which honestly i haven’t used much otherwise.
final thoughts: gameplay wise, this one is definitely my favorite.  it’s been an extremely long playthrough (i haven’t actually done the absolute last mission yet) which has some downsides but overall was a lot more relaxed than the others and had much more room for screwing around, exploring, etc which was valuable to me.  i understand the gripe about no chapters (for series inconsistency reasons mostly) but personally it didn’t bother me and overall i absolutely don’t get the hate for it, mafia 3 is a great fucking game.
mafia definitive edition
twenty chapters long (combining two from the original), it was the first mafia game i played and has a special place in my heart for that reason.  i have some complaints, but i adored the game on my first playthrough; i’ve yet to replay but i’m considering.  not too quick of a playthrough, especially with that goddamn race.  in terms of mechanics it had a lot of similarities to mafia 3, since it used the same engine, so some of this is a bit briefer.  same as 3, it had character tags for dialogue subs, thank god.  i mostly didn’t deal with any glitches, except for one major one: the armored car section completely broke because of a graphics issue where the turret hitbox seemed not to register, so none of my shots landed even with aim assist; online advice said to fiddle with graphics settings, and turning off one feature (v-tuning? i forget the name) let me beat it almost instantly, but if i hadn’t known that it would’ve made that section literally unbeatable and the game unplayable, which is a pretty major flaw.  i’m not sure if it’s been patched yet but i sure as hell hope.
open world & graphics: the graphics and setting design are spectacular.  i’ll be honest, seeing the intro sequence for the first time damn near brought me to tears; it felt like coming home.  lost heaven is a beautiful city...with fuckall to do.  pretty much zero downtime during missions, combined with a free ride that had absolutely jack shit to do for kicks besides drive, antagonize pedestrians & cops, and those obnoxious herbert baskerville missions (i haven’t done much, but they really haven’t done it for me tbh) results in...a world you can explore, sort of, but it’s not even that enjoyable.  all those weapons in vinny’s workshop and nobody to use ‘em on–would it kill the devs to spawn a few enemies to fight?  or to let us explore inside mission locations? (which, btw, makes collections hell to complete because you have to replay whole chapters, and unless you’re a diehard collector probably isn’t gonna be worth it to most just for that).  or to even let me climb on stuff easier?  or to give us any kinds of shops, or food somehow, or have any characters besides ralphie (doesn’t talk to you at all), vinny (has like one or two lines), and lucas bertone (whom i visited loads because he actually talks)?  it was lonely as hell and driving around started getting depressing, as much as i enjoyed the scenery.  for a truly gorgeous, detailed, giant map (the countryside went on for miles!) they wasted it with no interactivity.  at least the random npcs will sometimes say hi to you like in mafia 3.
combat: gunplay was very easy to learn and very fun.  i’m not sure if this was specific to easy difficulty (it was my first game of the series and on an unfamiliar computer, give me a break) but there was a neat feature with the crosshairs where they’d turn red if you were on target to hit and form an x if the shot would be fatal, so i got real good at pistol headshots real quick (picked this up again in mafia 3 even without the red crosshair but struggled in mafia 2, so i suspect it’s partly a game engine thing).  melee was the same “q to punch, alt left to dodge” as mafia 3 that kept me on my toes, albeit a little clunkier given tommy isn’t a combat trained vet (nice attention to detail albeit potentially motivated by fan complaints toward previews), so i had fun with it.  knives and bats were nice but i found little chance to use them, knives especially.  the stealth missions sucked major ass (one you had to get right up behind them and one you couldn’t stealth kill–just for relaxation, my detested).  the healing system with the med boxes scattered throughout missions was pretty damn brutal and i got killed a lot (granted i was inexperienced so idk how i’d fare on a rerun), which definitely made me strategize, and honestly it helped balance out the easy shooting.  i’ve heard gripes it was too easy (aside from the fucking race!), and while i played on the lowest setting, i’m kind of inclined to agree, though i’d have to see on a replay on medium/hard.
cars: the driving, once i got the hang of it, was surprisingly smooth, though driving in free ride after i’d been playing mafia 3 was a trip.  some of those ‘30s cars handle like hell though (race car my detested), and one time in free ride i snagged a car in front of a cop just to see what he’d do...well, turns out it was a jalopy with a top speed of 41 mph, and he chased me down and shot me.  on the other hand, the hearse from the saint and the sinner survived me whipping off the top of a hill, slamming down through the trees, and crash landing in the airport parking lot to ditch the cops (wasn’t in good shape afterward, but she made it!) so make of that what you will.  i don’t recall a speed limiter either.  the motorcycles were fucking awesome.  all in all not bad.
police behavior: considering i’ve heard the cops in tcolh were absolutely brutal, comparatively this was a cakewalk.  they were a huge pain to get off my ass in certain chase sequences, but so long as i stayed out of sight especially when they were first called out, they’d give up way too easy, even on hard mode (something i tested pretty extensively in free ride).  lack of wanted feature was surprising to me even when i had yet to play mafia 2; i ended up ditching the hearse in the saint and the sinner before we got back into town, though that was as much about the fact it was slow as hell by then as getting recognized (but still).
hud: similar to mafia 3, especially the minimap, which honestly looked even nicer tbh.  very legible, and afaik you can disable it easily (photomode).  no complaints here.
soundtrack/radio: absolutely beautiful original score; the main theme will genuinely never cease to haunt me and is pretty much without question my favorite original song of the series.  i’m not huge on thirties music so nothing stood out to me as far as licensed songs, but it was a nice and very atmospheric collection.  the radio stations felt much less distinct but the berringers commercials were funny, and overall the ads weren’t annoying at all really.  the news breaks were pleasant and well-timed.  i don’t actually know if djs would’ve added much here, really.
dlcs: besides a few outfit/car packs?  there are none!  for fuck’s sake, h13.
final thoughts: a gorgeous and very fun game that could stand to let the player breathe a little.  cutting the lucas bertone end-of-chapter optional missions (and adding the cars to free ride instead) was a mistake, because that would’ve given the player a chance to fuck around in-chapter, especially given free ride is so damn empty.  overall, despite its flaws, the game is a generally well-paced experience that i really enjoyed.
mafia 4: my hopes
i expect it’ll be chapter style like 1 and 2, rather than more open like 3; i don’t really care either way but slightly more structure might be nice.  i do hope it’ll be on the longer side (longer than 2, at least) but...i don’t know if i expect that.  that would also mean more of a wait till it comes out but that’s probably worth it.  here’s hoping they put character names in dialogue subtitles!
open world & graphics: good visual design (given the quality we’ve seen, i’m not at all concerned) and interactivity.  give us shops, give us random npcs that engage with the player (the “how you doing?” went a long way), give us chances to talk to side characters, give us the ability and reason to go get into shit like in mafia 3.  give us FREE RIDE with stuff to do (enemies to fight and locations to explore, namely) that isn’t horribly lonely and limited, and give us time to screw around in the main story (specifically, let us end chapters at our own discretion like mafia 2 rather than automatically like mafia DE) that won’t result in having to restart stuff if we die.  honestly i much preferred the integrated free ride style of mafia 3 though i have no expectation of that again given i seem to be very in the minority there–but please, i want a good balance of plot progression and messing around.  oh, and let me climb on things.
combat: unlimited arsenal would be nice, so long as switching isn’t clunky, but i wouldn’t mine the 3/DE style of one big gun, one small; so long as the gunplay isn’t totally fucked i don’t really care.  i am however begging for melee in the style of mafia 3 & DE and not 2–make us block on the spot and not just hold it down, that shit got so boring so fast.  i’m also desperate to see mafia 3 style stealth, especially enemy searching, the whistle feature, and knives.  pleeeease give us melee weapons and the chance to use them.  intel view or similar would be nice but is very character specific so i have no hopes of it and i’m fine with not getting it.  i’d love for there to be some kind of food in game (at least alcohol like in 2), but i’d rather a healing system closer to mafia DE or mafia 3–or if they do food, at least make it easier to find during levels or able to be carried with you.  and let us swim, dammit!  unless it’s set in los ondas and there’s no water, but still.
cars: i’m leery of these 1920s automobiles having shit cornering and top speeds, but if they handle like mafia DE’s cars did, i’m fine with it.  rearview mirror (disableable!) and speed limiter would be nice.  and give us motorcycles!  and boats, if applicable.  mafia 2 style garage system and customization please for the love of god.  and other characters bitching about our driving!
police behavior: lingering wanted feature on cars/players (especially cars), and differing police response based on neighborhood.  more intense search for suspects.  don’t get so pissy over traffic offenses.
hud: legible, detailed, and disableable.  show us allies and give us the hollow icons if npcs aren’t on the same level as the player.  and make the health bar easily readable for the love of god.
soundtrack/radio: my hopes are not particularly high for the licensed songs given it’s almost certainly a 1920s setting (i’m still bitter about that ‘70s soundtrack we aren’t getting, and also i’ve had a very hard time finding pre-1930s music in the past), but here’s hoping we get a good original score and distinct radio stations.  djs would be nice.  i do have high hopes the newsbreaks and ads will be pleasant this time.
dlcs: hard to predict or hope for anything when we know basically nothing of the game, but i hope we actually get at least one (hopefully more) and i hope they’re well-integrated like mafia 3’s were.
final thoughts: i kind of doubt we’ll get this, but put goddamn subtitles on ALL speech, not just the main dialogue.  radio announcements?  subtitle it.  random npc chatter in the background?  subtitle it.  stack them and make the less important ones slightly smaller if there’s cross talk (hell, especially subtitle things if there’s cross talk), but for fuck’s sake it’s basic accessibility and the fact i never see this done irritates me to no end.  also, i really hope we see food in game.  doesn’t even have to be for health reasons i just want my little pixel buddy to eat.  and let me sit down, sitting down should be in more games.  and also, please for the love of god don’t have loads of timed missions; i don’t think it will given we haven’t seen a lot of them besides the joe’s adventures dlc, but just in case.

Henlo, can i ask for another art request? (also i wanna know your ocs so i can ask questions :0)
if u have an art req just ask
my ocs r falling silent hope, amber veiled sunsetting and more recently solace within silence who i'm doing a ref for right now (iterators), aeun and scuffles (slugcats). they all have tags (except for sws because still doing ref lmao) so u can get an idea of their appearance fsh uses she/they, she bruteforced a way out of her can because fuck existed in a chamber for the rest of ur sad miserable life (not that she was that miserable just really bored) which made her bsiclly disappear from the local group's comms and freak out avs.. on t note of him,
avs uses he/it and he was extremely worried when hope suddenly disappeared off the comms & found a way to basically transfer conciousness from ai to something else (in his case, a modified slugcat that is rather not very waterproof which is a hassle getting around)
sws uses they/it/he, they are not in the same local group as avs or fsh but does know them due to their shenaniganery. his puppet can detach from the umbilical due to his admin/creator adding that as a feature without talling any of the others. they were very close until the admin ascended and kept it as a secret. mostly just travels around near their own structure. they have a slugcat tail and modified legs for better travel.
aeun is. one hella weird guy. where did they come from? who the hell knows because that beast has wings and four arms (and i have no explanation other than it looks cool) and nobody knows if they're iterator made or natural. they have small antenna that were mde by amber so they could communicate together (instead of just a one-way with a mark of communication) and theyre very close.
scuffles (or rather the observer) is a very starry feather boy with retractable claws, a decently long and slim prehensile tail and very good low light vision. they like observing the stars and watching the everyday of other creatures.

Alright I just wanna say this, because it kinda shocked me but mde me happy in a weird way at the same time.
So, this summer I'm working at a library. As one might expect, there's an exhibit for new books. Now, these are books for children, in said exhibit: One book called 'Secrets' and it says on the top from a review 'an important book for children about sexual abuse' like yes, teach kids about it <3 and also one that depending on context is either 'only' or 'bare/exposed/nude' butts at the beach. Repeat: a book about sexual abuse and another about nude butt's for *children*. It's just, yes please teach kids about the body and sexual abuse and normal and not normal things about your body.

Ahhh I agree with your thoughts about The Glory. Like everything about MDE and JYJ should be excellent… two individually traumatized people teaming up for revenge. JYJ's outwardly happy pill character with an inner dark side sounds really interesting on paper. And I get the explanations of why they work and why MDE deserves some happiness in the form of devoted romantic love, but the overall execution of JYJ's character and their relationship was just not it. I think a lot of it probably has a lot to do with how LDH was directed or maybe it was just him being miscast. In Part 1, it honestly felt like he was just in a completely different drama from the main cast. It would have been more interesting if they made JYJ older to match SHK's age, with a younger version of him meeting MDE's younger actress. Maybe they didn't think JYJ's puppy-esque character would work with an older actor idk.
And I really dislike how his mom was the one to save MDE by basically being like "pls don't kys for the sake of my son lulz." Ok thanks lady. Though I think that's when it hit me that they're supposed to be in love/can't live without each other, but none of their scenes really convinced me of that? Like oh, she's living because of him/his revenge (and his mom's pleading)? Like ooohh ok. I just wish she had realized she wanted to live herself lmao. That the bonds she built with him, the former school nurse, and especially Kang Hyun Nam made her long for more and realize she wanted those connections. But I guess setting up/teasing JYJ's revenge was too juicy for them to pass up.
I did like that JYJ's puppy love-ness in Part 1 was like a bait and switch in the reveal that he's totally unhinged. Like, it's weird to me to see ppl be like "he's a green flag" when dude moved an entire ass city to be closer to the woman who had routinely ignored him and removed herself from him (save for the one time to ask him for help post go tutoring) without telling her. Like wtf guys that's a giant RED flag lmao but it worked in the end b/c turns out JYJ is like, a low-key obsessive stalker lmao which is fine (in context) it works (in context) but then the show kinda...walks back on it at the same time? Like JYJ's unhinged and down for murder and then doesn't murder a single bitch in this house wtf???
It kinda felt like the show didn't wanna fully go there with his character and keep him as pure as possible within the narrative to make him worthy of MDE? Idk I thought it was hella weird that he didn't even get to stab one single bitch after allllllllll that talk about stabbing bitches and in the end HDY killed one of the main antagonists of the show the heck!? Like I loved it, it worked for the narrative all hail out beloved DIFL but why couldn't JYJ get in on the action?
It did the worst thing for his character, made him boring.
What's ironic is I loved the actor in Hotel Del Luna and felt like he had way better chemistry and story with IU's char lmao I preferred him so much to the main lead of that show and yet here I am in this one rooting for the other guy cause narrative trumps all
I think he's a good actor and there were moments he def brought the creepy intimidating factor I just wish the show went there with the character.
I also didn't like his mom coming out of completely NOWHERE to "save" MDE and tell her to basically be the salvation for his son. Again, women as the saviors of broken men is so....meh. There were plenty of things I wanted to see from MDE in the ending that we didn't get - one just ONE more scene with her and Soo-hee's mom like?? - that was dedicated more to this long setup for a potential s2 and I found that really frustrating.

as an avid fan of ur tags, omg yes sm's new practice room SUCKS! its just so hollow and empty. wasted all this money for a big building and terrible interior design (also like the fact that it was shaking due to heavy winds and their employees had to wfh.........) this isn't just sm but big companies in general having so much money and not investing in its space...
alskdf;lksajf i'm glad someone likes my tags, they've been my outlet for years and it will never change, sorry ops everywhere. also yes!!! i HATE so many modern interior design and architecture trends i've seen some truly horrible stuff in the last five-ish years. just goes to show that money can't buy taste and it can't hire it either, clearly. i didn't love the old sm rooms because i have very specific opinions on natural woods but they were light and BRIGHT even though i don't think many of them had big windows. in the new ones there's just WAY too much going on in the background and the dark floors and ceiling make the spaces look way smaller even though they aren't. and the lighting is so horrible i want to SCREAM. the room in the step back dance practice is just ugly and makes the video look like it was filmed in the old old sm room with the sky backdrop but its the room that the devil and universe dance practice are filmed in that really grinds my gears because of the WINDOWS. there are SO many conflicting lines happening with the windowframes and the city skyline and the room has so little contrast that it is impossible to tell what is going on. it's SO infuriating. i know they're just rehearsal rooms but like. they've been filming dance practices for over a decade now, couldn't you have at least put a little thought into it???
