Bdubs knelt. Didn't feel like doing much else. The Vex swarmed all around him, their small hissing laughter filling his ears. How had he got here? He wasn't entirely sure. Something-Something about-
Soothing hands stroked his hair. "Your loyalty was your downfall. You belong to us now."
Bdubs squeezed his eyes closed. "No! I won't! You can't make me!"
More laughter. And then he looked down and saw the Vex mask in his hands, and screamed as he couldn't stop himself placing it on his head. He remembered nothing after that point.
-
Bdubs woke in a grassy area. He lay there for a long time, slowly waking up. Words-voices?. God, something was in his head, but his head hurt so bad, and he closed his eyes again. Mumbled something. Thought he was saying words. Words were not what heard.
-
At some point, he stood. The sun was sinking low in the sky. It'd be night soon. He didn't recognise his surroundings. Clearly somewhere near a mountain, but other than that? No idea. He checked his comms unit, which only offered coordinates, and nothing more. Where was home? Did he still remember that at least?
Maybe, maybe not. Still, he had rockets and wings, so he took flight, heading in what he hoped was the right direction.
-
As he flew, memories flittered through his brain. Somewhere- no, wait, that was at spawn, at the community area. There was Scar! And Bdubs was-
Bdubs looked so different. And Scar was scared, trying to reason with him. All Bdubs could hear was his own yelling, and the sound Scar made when he was stabbed.
He closed his eyes as he saw himself- feeding. But he didn't feel sick. Indeed, that memory brought up feelings of power and strength. His fingers were blue, his face distorted into that of a Vex, his small body feasting happily until Scar respawned elsewhere.
-
Bdubs began to understand. Perhaps, that's why he remembered. So he would know who his masters are. He still had no idea how the Vex had cornered him like that, and somehow made him submit, but he wasn't about to complain. Their music was power, and Vex magic coursed through his body like a fast-moving river. It was intoxicating.
-
"Remember your mission," The Vex whispered as he arrived home. "Remember your mission."
Bdubs had long since stopped questioning it. He did remember his mission. He could see all the pranks in his head that the Vex wanted from him. Prank every hermit, that was the goal. And he was sure he'd make it. He had a plan, alright. And now, all he needed to do was execute it.
-
The nHo jungle was as quiet as it always was. Thick with vegetation but that just made him feel at home. He might have climbed into his tree to hibernate for a while, letting the vines wind around his body effortlessly. He just needed a moment to process things, and then he'd be fine. Nothing to worry about.
-
"Bdubs? Bdubs, are you there?" came a voice piercing through the leaves to Bdubs' consciousness.
"Hmm? Who wants to know?" Bdubs muttered, eyes still firmly closed.
"We got news, Bdubs, about the Resistance. We've found them!"
Bdubs opened his eyes. "Oh, is that you, Cub?"
"Yeah, it's me and Scar. We've been searching all over but we've found them. You wanna come see?" Cub said.
"Of course I wanna see them!" Bdubs said, pushing the vines and leaves aside to free himself from his hiding spot.
"Hello, sir! We heard you were still looking for the Resistance, and we've found their base camp," Cub said.
"Oh yes, we certainly did! I'm sure Doc would be super happy to learn this!" Scar said, the other Hermit with Cub.
"Of course he will! Gimme that!" Bdubs said, snatching the map from them. "Now, take me to this camp."
"Right this way, sir," Cub said, gesturing him forward.
-
It took four hours to fly to the right jungle. It was so far away. But Bdubs' eyes sparkled as soon as he saw it, knowing that was the right one. Oh, yes. That basecamp was his and his alone. No more Viva las Vegas! He flew towards it and got out a flint and steel, doing hi sbest to set fire to it.
"Yes, yes! Burn you scum! Burn into ashes from whence you came!" Bdubs said.
He didn't notice Cub and Scar keeping their distance, unsure what Bdubs was about to do. He turned to them, grabbing Cub's arm tight. "The Vex would like to feed tonight, and you'll do perfectly."

i think one of the appeals of tango to me is, not to reveal the fact i used to spend a lot of time on tvtropes as a teenager, that he's very much to me the bunny-ears lawyer. which, for the record, is a trope where a character has some obvious quirk or thing that would normally make them not fit for a job, they're just otherwise so ABSURDLY COMPETENT that you keep them on anyway. for example: a lawyer who always wears pink bunny ears to court, but also always manages to win cases despite this obvious quirk.
anyway that is tango to me. he is a cartoon character and an absurd guy who makes, uh, lets call it questionably yonic corners. however he is so absurdly competent at his redstoning and contraptions that it outweighs any downside the ridiculousness would entail. sure, if you have tango help you on your project he's going to die repeatedly with comedic pianos falling on his head and exploding totems or whatever, and make cartoon noises the whole time. he'll just ALSO be able to set up that dynamic chunk loading for you so really, you have no choice here,
