The Power of Voice: Why Turning Your Book into an Audiobook Can Amplify Your Story
In the vast ocean of storytelling, each wave brings a unique tale to the shore. As authors, you hold the power to shape these waves, and one transformative way to do so is by converting your written words into the vivid soundscape of an audiobook. The journey from page to audio is not just a change in format—it's an expansion of your story's reach and impact.
The Intimacy of Audio: When readers become listeners, they experience your story through the intimate medium of voice. A well-narrated audiobook creates a direct, personal connection, as if the characters themselves are whispering their secrets. This closeness can turn casual listeners into devoted fans.
Reach a Diverse Audience: Not everyone has the time or ability to sit down with a book. Audiobooks cater to busy commuters, visually impaired readers, and those who simply enjoy absorbing stories through listening. By transforming your book into an audiobook, you open your world to people who might never have discovered it otherwise.
Enhance Emotional Depth: The human voice carries nuances that text alone cannot. Fear, joy, sorrow, and humor come alive in the inflections and rhythms of speech. A narrator can breathe life into your characters, making emotional scenes more poignant and humorous moments more infectious.
Stand Out in a Crowded Market: While the shelves are crowded, the audiobook market still offers room for growth. By venturing into audio, you distinguish your work and show that you are adaptable and forward-thinking—qualities that resonate with publishers and readers alike.
Long-Term Benefits: Audiobooks continue to gain popularity, and their shelf life extends beyond initial release buzz. They are often revisited, shared, and cherished over time, providing a steady stream of royalties and lasting connections with your audience.
So, how do you start? Begin by choosing the right narrator—someone who understands and embodies the spirit of your book. Collaborate with audio professionals to ensure quality production. And most importantly, share your audiobook journey with your audience through updates, snippets, and behind-the-scenes insights.
Remember, every voice has a story, and every story deserves to be heard. Turn your book into an audiobook and let your words echo in the hearts of listeners around the world.
Embrace the sonic adventure, and let your story resonate in new, profound ways.

Last Monday of the Week 2023-12-11
la baguette, etc.
EDIT: god damn this got longer than I expected
Listening: I almost exclusively listened to Against Me! during this trip for some reason. On Saturday night my metro got interrupted and I got kicked out a few kilometers from my hotel, and after watching a couple full busses skip my stop, I just walked back. I put on Black Crosses for the first time, which is a combination of demos and acoustic versions of the songs from White Crosses which is probably one of my favourite punk albums.
I can't listen to some of Against Me! without having a good bad time because of Memories but I do not have that issue with White Crosses. As far as the demo/acoustic versions go, they are much lighter than the mainline releases which is bad if you want something energetic but good if you kind of want to soak in the lyrics.
There's a lot of great ones on Black Crosses including the obvious ones like Spanish Moss and The Western World but the one that really got me while walking back was the acoustic version of Because of the Shame which is positively heartbreaking when given space like this.
Reading: I fell down a rabbit hole on delta-sigma conversion while doing simultaneous reading up on 32-bit float audio and what the hell DSD is. I will reverse explanations.
Delta-Sigma is a collection of techniques used, roughly, to convert between high-sample-rate, low-bit-depth data and low-sample-rate, high-bit-depth data. A delta-sigma audio analogue-digital converter might sample a low-pass-filtered version of incoming signal at 6MHz and 1-2 bits and use that to reconstruct a 16-bit 44kHz version of the signal. Thanks to nyquist and other various equivalences this works with basically zero quantization error if you chose your filters right.
I was familiar with this from class-D amplifiers, which are effectively delta-sigma digital-analogue conversion, which reproduces a low-frequency analogue signal by feeding a pulse-density encoded chain into an amplifier and a low pass filter.
Anyway, DSD is a silly audiophile brand name for an audio codec that stores the 1-bit pulse encoded form of an audio signal rather than storing traditional PCM audio. Fundamentally if your hardware is correct there's basically no difference in information content or density between them.
This led me to these two good articles on dithering and delta-sigma architecture, among others.
Watching: I stumbled across this ongoing good series on YouTube a few weeks ago discussing trends in marketing movies as being "no CGI" when they are absolutely the fuck not. The second part just came out, but here's part 1:
youtube
"No CGI" is always a ridiculous claim in basically any modern movie, but this is a really good breakdown of how a combination of irresponsible journalism and intentionally poor communication creates the impression that tons of incredibly effects heavy movies are actually "free of CGI".
Treating computer graphics and effects as some kind of scourge is a misled reflex. It reminds me a lot of backlash against pitch correction, because in most cases people do not realize how much pitch correction is used in basically all music you hear. Big artists playing live performances are even pitch corrected in real time these days.
It's just part of the business, and in a very parallel way, people expect the output of CGI/pitch correction even if they don't know that. If P!nk were to go out on stage and sing her music without pitch correction you'd hear the effects of her ridiculously energetic acts, and people would bitch about it because as evidenced by people who describe good sounding music systems as feeling "like live music", people don't know what live music sounds like! Live music sounds like crap compared to studio production, you're there to inhale six different kinds of cigarette and get hit in the chest by a drunk girl who isn't paying attention to where she's going.
Wow I have a lot of opinions about how people don't realize how much production is in things. This should probably be a post. Later. Hey this is like guys who talk about "no makeup" look-*I AM YANKED OFFSTAGE WITH A COMICALLY OVERSIZED SHEPHERD'S CROOK*.
Playing: Nothing really! Dark Souls stalled not because I'm stuck but because I was doing other things. Making block took up a lot of time.
Making: Hacked together a very basic proof of concept for inserting my own controller into an LED string. As encouraged by definitely unbiased user @compiler-specific I am going to try and write my own DSL for this, which will probably end up resembling a lisp just because that simplifies my life.
Also almost done with hambanner, an IRC ban management bot. I would have finished that if I was not. In Paris. over the weekend. Hopefully this week.
Tools and Equipment: Sometimes you will find that your phone is dead and you need to find your way back to your hotel in a bizzarely convoluted part of La Défense late at night. And at this time you will be grateful that you took the time to orient yourself relative to local streets and the river and the metro station so that you do not have to find a corner to charge your phone and can instead just get back to your hotel. It could happen to you.

HiFi Rose RA280 Integrated Amplifier Now On Demo!
Tumblr media
Hi Everyone,
Another quick update to say that we now have the new HiFi Rose RA 280 Integrated Amplifier on permanent demo.
I think it is fair to say that it's bigger brother, the RA 180 divided opinion on its styling, there was no questions on its sound quality but it is quite a busy looking amp, I liked it but I understand it wasn't the most conventional looking amp but the new RA280 has put that all right and simplified the design and features, it is basically a cut down RA 280 and all the better for it I'd say, it really does look the part and at £2999 seems great value.
The amplification is what HiFi Rose call Class AD which is basically their own developed take on Class D where you get the efficiency and advantages of Class D but the sound quality of a more conventional Class A or AB amp, I have to say Class D used to be a really dirty word in HiFi but there really have been leaps and bounds made in this area over the last few years and now I feel it really shouldn't even be mentioned, even though I just have, as I'd say Class D, or AD, amps can go toe to toe with any amplification now.
As with all HiFi Rose products it is beautifully built, you can really see the attention to detail they have put into to every element, it should have a clear cover so you can see the internals as they are laid out so cleanly but it all comes down to sound quality and I'd say it is a winner here and is a great amp to go up against our other amps in this ballpark, the Rega Aethos, the Naim SuperNait 3, the Musical Fidelity M6si, Heed Lagrange and the Accuphase E-280, so if you are in the market for an amp under £5k feel free to get in touch for a demo as you really are spoilt for choice nowadays.
Please find a link to the HiFi Rose product range below which we have all on demo and a few pics of the RA280 + RS150 and RA180 -
HiFi Rose RS520 Offer
Whilst we are talking HiFi Rose, please find below details on an offer that is currently available on the RS520 all in one with the Magnet speakers making a really neat compact system, if you'd like to demo it feel free to get in touch.
Cheers,
Paul.

Could Shiki's story have been better if dandebi wasn't an otome game? Absolutely. It could've been a great explanation of dark feelings, what it means to "think good" vs be good, about agency and choice and autonomy
Is it really Shiki's fault, as a literal creation of god, that he's like this? Is it his fault if he was never given an outlet, let alone an explanation for his feelings? Is he in the wrong to cling to Ritsuka out of loneliness and drag her down with him, when that's all he's ever known? Is it wrong to punish people for aspects of themselves that they can't control?
Is Ritsuka to be blamed for her "bad choices" when her hand is forced? Is she to be blamed for developing feelings, when Shiki forces his way into her life at a low point? Is she really at fault for wanting to know the truth that's been kept from her since she was a child?
Personally, I'm much more fond of Blight. It was a really interesting choice to have Shiki barely hurt her himself, yet he still takes enjoyment in her suffering and they get a happy ending
But all that goes out the window when you have to balance out (Shiki x Player) fanservice sadism with ShikiRitsu development
And I get it. It's absolutely wonderhoy for the players. But what about afterwards? What happens to Ritsuka when the attraction is over?
I don't mean when her attraction fades, I mean when the players have gotten their fix and inevitably move on?
I guess it's silly to care about "what happens to Ritsuka" as if she's a real person, but fleeting stories are not my type. I like it when the characters can live on and continue their story, long after I, the player/watcher, have moved on
But that doesn't happen, does it?
It's brought up in both EverSweet and Charming Book, in his unit single with Mage, in his marketing long after the other boys have changed
Unit singles: Roen asks Maxxis to marry her. Rem and Urie both echo Destinare and Kimi wa Estella. Mage wants to to go on a journey with her. Lindo wants to protect her (in his own "padlocks around the windows" way, but by the end of the audio drama, he begins to understand that she is her own person). Shiki *still* wants them to die together
EverSweet: "god cursed me to die in agony if I don't feel loved. Oh? Why don't I feel loved? Because I still want to hurt you. Haha! I feel loved now, I don't want to hurt you anymore! :)"
Charming Book: "I most definitely don't want to hurt you anymore. It's just that this magical pipe, that draws out people's desires and amplifies them until they become distorted, yes this magical pipe corrupted me! The pipe is destroyed, I don't want to hurt you anymore :)"
And the only conclusion I can draw from that is that his selling point is the sadism, the attraction it creates for the player. Shiki's story is about the journey
And that's great. But what about afterwards? Can you really call it a "story", an ending, if it requires you to strip everything from a character and leave him a hollow shell of his former self?
Sure, sure, Shiki is still S (say that three times fast lol), technically. If you take "sadistic" to mean forward and dominant in personality. But that's not what they presented him as, and they know it. In both ES and CB, they have to bring the pain obsession back to make him Shiki again. There's nothing to Shiki once he "gets better"
Which sucks, because we could've had a great story exploring him

Solid Stuff.
Lets talk about transistors. There are many types and methods and there have been many products made with them. It is rather silly to lump them all into one bin and complain.
Transistors are actually quantum devices. They use fields and potentials and extra electrons or holes in the orbitals of solid materials. They make possible all those things we all associate with modern life. Your smart phone uses millions of transistors. Even the screen is an array of transistors controlling what you see. Such stuff would be physically impossible with vacuum tubes.
They go back pretty far you probably didn't know. Basically as old as vacuum tubes in theory. The Field effect transistor was first described in 1925 conceptually. The common Bipolar Junction type was demonstrated in 1947 and commercialized in the 1950s. The 6550 vacuum tube was also developed in the 1950s. The MOSFET was invented in 1959 and had many advantages especially in energy efficiency. All that real work was done at BELL Labs a private research lab owned by Bell Telephone.
In Audio the challenge was finding ways to control ever more power. Up until the late 1960s a powerful home amplifier was about 60 Watts. That was the best you could do with using either Tubes or Transistors. Very clever designers worked both ways. Harman Kardon and Dynaco both sold factory made and Kits of audio stuff as the interest was mostly in hobbyists. Both companies used tube and transistor methods and moved from one to the other as soon as they could. But they sold both tubes and Transistor equipment for some time.
Why did they change? They found transistors better. They liked the performance and manufacturing advantages. A stereo tube amplifier uses three big transformers. A transistor type needs one. Tube amplifiers use lethal voltages and are fragile. Transistors don't and aren't. And in the late 60s to early 70s transistors sounded better. Such was the opinion of the Original golden ear J Gordon Holt.
Tubes were "fuzzy" and obscured detail. Tubes had weak or muddy Bass. Transistors had clarity and speed and Power. One of the best amplifiers of that age was the Harman Kardon Citation 12. 60 Watts dual mono with quasi-complementary output transistors. Some people still say quasi is better than actual full complementary as you can properly match the transistors. That HK still sounds really good. Better than a newer Carver amp I have.
The age of the super amp was all transistor. SAE, Dynaco, Phase Linear all just added more transistors to the output and got 100, 200, 250, and then 350 Watts per channel. That followed the development of better transistors that could push more current and volts. People liked what they could do.
As in everything they were not perfect. Nothing is perfect. And today there is an avalanche of marketing and nonsense. This is best, that is best. Companies come and go. Old ways are rediscovered and called new.
Hey it is not over. People spend crazy money on the latest thing. It has a lot in common with joining a Cult. I refuse to drink the Kool Aid.
It took me a while to realize that it is not about best, or even better, just different. There are different things to hear. My lovely 1990s era tube amp has wonderful textures, but obscures tiny details I know are there. I miss them, but will forgive it for now.
I think I should just start calling it my winter amp. Toasty warm like a nice fire in the fireplace. It will rest in the summer, and I will get my tiny details back. Not about better.
There are obsolete technologies revived like tiny Single End Triode "Class A" amplifiers and big horn speakers. People can forgive flaws and limitations if they really want to. Hey I do. Old designs from the 1950s are recreated and people really like them. You can buy a brand new recreation of the Harman Kardon Citation I and II classic tube preamp and amp set. Just like the original only new parts. Old "Classic" equipment is lovingly restored to as new, but this returning to the roots still sounds like the 1950s. It wasn't that good people.
I have LPs that are pure analogue. Performance to professional tape to disc. They sound really good. I have LPs that were recorded digitally and they sound great too. I have really good CDs. So the newer technology is not automatically worse. Some is, but that is the production chain and often commercial pressures to "sound good on AM radio" like that Carly Simon LP I got.
You can build a justifiably high end system with transistors. It will sound great and be reliable. You do not have to apologize, and yes you can still socialize with the tube people.

As predicted, the 'podcast from hell' is nothing more than the Tig 2.0. Meghan, Harry, Doria, Oprah, Gail King, Tyler Perry-> all members of the grift that keeps on grifting. Another celebrity Multi-Level-Marketing scheme.
Oprah, always on the prowl for her next big female TOXIC POSITIVITY bobble head. Another charismatic influencer assigned to distract the caucasian soccer mom with the latest Brene Brown psycho babble.
Remember when shy, wallflower Meghan Markle forced herself on Joshua Silverstein (with a kiss) at Oprah & Doria's AGAPE "spiritual center" teenage drama camp? Thanks to Content Creators Ibble Dibble, Daniel Boland & Leilani of Barbados (see below), I noticed Agape's GURU is bundled in the lifecoaching package offered via Meghan's podcast (book promotion). We've heard that Meghan's podcast team is made up of Oprah's "people" and Oprah does absolutely NOTHING without a ROI.
Meghan's intentional promotion of Oprah & Tyler's celebrity friends is as inappropriate as her reading of Duck Duck from a chair at Tyler Perry's house.
Doria and Oprah's Beverly Hills "pastor."
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These podcasts from hell are marketing her so-called "mommy/public policy platform." What happened to the "private" pregnancies and the couple seeking a "private" family life?
I cannot bear to hear the sound of Meghan's haughty & distasteful voice. Alternatives: Click the dropdown arrow on youtube to read the transcript, listen at 2x the normal speed or mute and read the captions.
youtube
Palate Cleanser: content creator, Foster Braxton, keeps us laughing with the latest in Harkle funnies & memes. At the end for: "He [Harry] has Meghanitis. She [Meghan] was a tone deaf idiot before she married into this family and he has amplified it."

Nobody believes you.
Meghan, your childhood dream was to become Diana 2.0. Diana never would have worn inflatables. She never would have presented a Darren Doll to the world. No matter how many struggle life details you share via audio, print, or on Netflix------ nobody believes you.
Over 2,500 votes in Foster's poll. 63% say she's not the biological mother. 25% doubt they even exist.

Leilani's comical breakdown of part 1
Just a few weeks ago, her so-called "privacy" was violated bc someone (meghan herself) published a screengrab of Arkie & Doria regularly popping into her squaddie planning (scripted) zoom chats.
She's incapable of behaving like a normal human being who would simply plan a recorded chat with her nigerian mother. Of course paparazzi obsessed meghan markle, resorted to theatrics and added another layer to her un-relatable, complicated, over produced, nauseating podcast.
youtube
Daniel Boland exposes "nuclear narcissism."
She just can't decide who she wants to be. Today, I'm just like you. I'm a working mom who is interrupted by calls from her Nigerian mother. But yesterday, according to H, I was the family breadwinner. Chauffered to my meetings by H who also takes care of the kids and rushes home to them bc they can't be left alone w/nannies unless of course we choose to remain away from them for 3-4 weeks.

The usage of glass in Goncharov as he becomes increasingly disillusioned with his work, starting strictly (glass fully intact--no scratches, completely clear, Goncharov fully visible) to conflicted (the thick green glass that literally warps our perception of him, the color green indicative of the envy he feels towards everyday people and the lives they get to experience), to the complete end of his involvement in his prior lifestyle and life's work (the pane of glass, and the only, solitary audio cue being it shattering as he dies, signifying the moment he’s free from his past self)
Whereas the mirror scenes are (literally) reflective of the times Goncharov sees himself for who he truly is and who he aims to be, always with Andrey present, the glass scenes amplify the dissonance between his public persona and his sense of self outside that bravado
In the market scene, there's a smattering of broken glass on the sidewalk by the apple stand, indicative of the understated feeling of dissonance that's starting to trail behind him at every moment, creating a literal trail of disconnect
When we get to the end fight, the building is a cross between a hall of mirrors and a house of glass where we clearly can see Goncharov at all times, at no point obscured by a conflicting sense of self, and when he goes crashing through the glass, the shards are huge, bloodied, unavoidable, signaling the very visible end of both his old self and the lifestyle that had accompanied it

Music Player in 2023... Why Sony?
The convenience of Bluetooth streaming is great but it is constrained by how much data it can pump through its signal. Though portable music players are preferably used with wired headphones for maximal performance, wired cans have seemingly enjoyed a recent renaissance too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Smartphones are great for convenience but they’re not necessarily great for sound. As they’re multi-taskers, able to perform a range of functions, that also means they are a product that’s a jack of all trades but master of a few. Support for higher quality music has become better in the portable space with what Qualcomm is doing with its Snapdragon Sound platform and Sony’s innovations with LDAC, but in terms of outright quality for music, you won’t find better than a portable player.
Sony’s announcement of a new and not too expensive Walkman is a sign that portable music players still have a function and a purpose, as well as reminding some they still exist. Most would assume that portable music players have (or are) going the way of the Dodo, slowly passing their way out of relevance. However, we’re still seeing specialists such as Astell & Kern launch new players every year, and just recently FiiO announced the M11S. While Apple killed off the iPod, the rest of the portable player market isn’t interested in joining the scrap heap just yet.
The NW-A306 has a battery life of up to 36 hours of continuous playback, a 3.6-inch display, and because it runs on Android, you can install your favorite streaming apps if you must, although that defeats the point of having all your music with you. You'll still need a computer to load your music onto the device, just like with the iPhone's Music app, but that somehow seems less annoying with a walkman than with a phone. It also has audiophile-level playback at up to 96KHz (more than double the sample rate of a CD), although that's probably not a difference you can hear.
But it's not all upside. For a start, you'll have to carry two devices if you still want to carry your phone. And it's possible that you kind of let your music library slip when streaming came along. I bought a used iPod a while back, and when I loaded up all my songs, there was no music from the last half-decade or so because I'd been streaming it all.
The convenience of Bluetooth streaming is great but it is constrained by how much data it can pump through its signal. Though portable music players are preferably used with wired headphones for maximal performance, wired cans have seemingly enjoyed a recent renaissance too.
In a wider sense, of this seems to have converged around a greater want for higher quality music on the go. We have for decades limited ourselves in this area as MP3 streaming and downloads were a step in the wrong direction, one that’s taken a long time to reverse. In people’s minds, the quality of what they’re listening doesn’t matter as much as having access to it. We have access to more music than we can fathom at the moment, the area that we need to beef up is the quality we listen at.
From DACs to headphone amplifiers and higher quality streaming services such as Tidal and Qobuz (we still wait for Spotify Hi-Fi to make its entrance), the issue of ‘quality’ is one of the frontiers that the music and audio industry is pushing towards. All these devices have the potential to make music sound better, so while my smartphone will still be my device of choice given how much it (rightly or wrongly) rules my day-to-day activities, when it comes to listening to music in its highest quality, I’ll be tuning in with my portable player to get the best experience possible.

On My View Point...
You may think that, there’s only a need of an audio enhancing software or a high end headphones. But on all every aspects, from nostalgic design, high end specs possible and even quality - Sony have managed to make it all happen in a capsule. And that’s it. For music lovers, this will be dream gadget for sure and so happy to see this upgrade on this formfactor which was really unexpected. And looking forward to have a glance of one of these in real. And that’s been it - Edwin K Jayesh
