GOOD OMENS FANS
I removed Aziraphale and Muriel as they are only semi Heaven compliant, although for this same reason, I had to include the Metatron. IM NOT TAGGING HIM, I DONT WANT A METATRON SWEEP. Edit: WHOMST THE FUCK
I can’t decide between Saraquel and Uriel.

What kind of angel is Saraquel? Because they're not an archangel in a way other archangels are archangels. You can see that Gabriel, Michael and Uriel are wearing those grey suits as a uniform. It's even emphasised when they are trying to change Gabriel's rank and he's not allowed to keep his clothes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But Saraquel is wearing a white jacket, which is very similar to Crowley's one. And we know they had been working together and that Crowley used to be pretty high ranking angel. I know it's nothing revolutionary but I haven't seen anyone talking about this before and it gives us hints about who crowley might have been.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And yes, it also means that Aziraphale has to change his outfit.
So what do you guys think?

Throughout this whole sequence the angels can't come into the bookshop until Aziraphale specifically invites them.
"Shall we discuss it inside?"
"By all means."
They still stand outside.
"Would you like to come in?"
They go inside.
The bookshop was already shared between Aziraphale and Crowley by then. It's theirs. The abode of an angel and a demon.

I’m rewatching Good Omens 2, but I’m analyzing it and taking notes this time (I need to know everything). Here’s what I have for episode 1!!
Episode 1
- “Oh, I can. I’m very good at forgiveness. It’s one of my favourite things.” S2E1 9:57
- Gabriel shows up at Aziraphale’s bookshop bc he forgot everything when he got in the elevator. He was gonna take it to hell to find Beelzebub, but he accidentally took it to Earth. Dirty Donkey is across the street from A.Z. Fell and Co, which is a familiar (and angelic) location. Could probably sense that it was a safe space for him to be
- Michael was on the phone with Beelzebub
- The fly can be seen crawling on the box just before Aziraphale goes to pick it up
- “Gayyyyybriel” 20:56
- “Out of his mouth go burning lamps, and sparks of fire leap out” Job 41:19 (written on matchbox)
- When Maggie calls him an angel, he says “nothing of the sort”
- Distancing himself from heaven? He’s no longer an angel?
- Or is it like all the times he claimed he and Crowley weren’t friends/didn’t know each other?
- Is he telling the truth or lying bc he’s scared of the repercussions?
- “Doing good again, angel?” “Oh it hardly counts. A purely selfish action.” (24:40)
- He’s no longer working for heaven, so he’s not obligated to do good. Crowley appears to be teasing him in a “don’t you wanna go apeshit?” kinda way.
- He now has to justify his good deeds by saying they’re for selfish reasons.
- Like Crowley has all along
- Does he see himself as a demon now?
- Like in the Job minisode when he thought he was going to fall for lying?
- Or is he just hella anxious bc of naked Gabriel in his bookshop?
- Nina immediately getting defensive when Maggie gives her the LP
- Says she doesn’t have anything to play it on, which is true, but it’s also a refusal of the gift
- Immediately tries to turn the conversation professional/tries to get Maggie to order
- Then brings up her partner/how controlling she is
- It’s an unspoken “please don’t do extra things for me bc my partner won’t like it”
- Obsessed with the fact that “Jim” doesn’t know literally anything, but found a duster and was like “ooh hell yeah I’m gonna deep clean this place”
- Why is it that they only communicate when they’re arguing?
- Aziraphale really likes suggesting that the only way to solve arguments is for them to separate
- Communicate and then compromise omg
- Crowley can summon lightning
- Why was this never brought up again?
- It might fall under the broad “they’re more powerful than heaven and hell realize” category
- But it’s a big thing, you’d think it’d be brought up again
- But y’know, it’s a plot device for Maggie and Nina’s fanfiction moment
- Michael and Uriel’s power struggle
- Michael’s all “we’re equal, I’m just a little more equal than you”
- Uriel’s all “this is bullshit, why can’t I give the orders too”
- Saraqael is all “shut tf up, you both suck, there are important things to deal with”
- The archangels not only see humans as vastly inferior, they see all the other angels as such too
- And the angels know it too
- Muriel introducing themself as “no one”
- Beelzebub is literally all “Crowley you could have my job if you find my himbo bf for me”
- Extreme sanctions
- “That isn’t actually a thing. That’s just something we used to joke about to frighten the cherubs” (35:37)
- Why doesn’t Crowley know about the Book of Life?? He was a high ranking angel (throne, dominion, or above), why doesn’t he know about the “extreme sanctions”?
- I think the Book of Life is just a bluff
- Nina’s “why not?” when Maggie says she doesn’t drink
- Bracing herself for a sob story or a “it’s so not good for you” type of lecture
- “Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy”
- IT SKIPS OVER “DINING AT THE RITZ”
- I AM UNWELL
- God I hate the fact that Lindsay didn’t go to Give Me Coffee or Give Me Death to check on Nina
- “Worried texts from Lindsay” nope, she’s not worried, she’s abusive
- Why is “a proper apology a humiliating dance?
- Don’t get me wrong, I love the dance, but PLEASE COMMUNICATE OMG
- Zira did the dance in 1650, 1793, 1941
- Crowley cut him off, was he gonna list more times????
- CROWLEY IM BEGGING YOU TELL AZIRAPHALE ABOUT THE EXTREME SANCTIONS
- He hasn’t told Aziraphale that he’s still in touch with hell
- He regularly meets with Shax (EDIT: He does tell Aziraphale about Shax, so he knows that much)
- Didn’t tell Zira about Beelzebub showing up in his car
- It’s almost like he’s not willing to let go of the way things used to be (/s)
- And feels guilty that he’s still in touch with Hell, but Zira isn’t in touch with Heaven
- Jim is visibly upset that they won’t talk to him and they instead talk down to him or talk about him right in front of him
- Was the miracle so strong bc Crowley and Aziraphale together are super fucking strong or because Jim accidentally helped?
- While I love Zira and Crowley together being strong, and the whole point of them being underestimated by Heaven and Hell, I think the latter would be funny
- It’s like Shadwell with his finger
- It could also be another way of tricking Heaven and He’ll like the body swap
- They already think they’re super powerful bc of the body swap, this would add to it
- Probably why the Metatron wanted them either to be split or together on his side
- Doin Mackichan and Gloria Obianyo slayed as Michael and Uriel
- I love the way that Heaven matches the modernity of Earth
- Uriel’s “smartphone” and their clothes

Hi Mr Gaiman!
I had a question: in season 1 the 4 archangels were Michael, Gabriel, Uriel, and Sandalphon. In Season 2, it's Michael, Gabriel, Uriel, and Saraquel.
But in the bible, it's Michael, Gabriel, Uriel, and Raphael.
...but Raphael isn't mentioned anywhere in GO, and I was wondering if there was a reason for that....
That might be tied into the reason that Crowley can open files in Heaven that can only be accessed by Thrones, Dominions, and higher?
Thank you!!!
"In the bible" there are three, or four, or seven, or eight archangels. It depends which rite you follow... This Wikipedia article may help...

Crowley was Raphael?
WARNING: MAJOR GOOD OMENS 2 SPOILERS
Ok, so in the last few years we all enjoyed the headcanon that Crowley was the Archangel Raphal pre-Fall. To be completely honest, in season one this theory didn't make a lot of sense because we knew basically nothing about Crowley as an angel except for the fact that he helped create the stars and fell because he asked too many questions. So, even though it was a nice and interesting theory, I thought it would remain that, a theory.
Well, seems like this theory is basically confirmed now at the end of season 2. But let's start at the beginning.
First, we have to talk about the Hierarchy of Angels in Christianity. This Hierarchy was theorized by Pseudo-Dionysius the Areopagite in his book De Coelesti Hierarchia (On the Celestial Hierarchy). Dionysius described nine levels of spiritual beings which he grouped into 9 orders.
Highest orders:
Seraphim
Cherubim
Thrones
Middle orders:
Dominions
Virtues
Powers
Lowest orders:
Principalities
Archangels
Angels
Now, a lot of people asked Neil why the Archangels have so much power if they are so low in the Hierarchy and he said that he and Terry actually tought of archangels and Archangels as different beings.
So we have the arch-angels, in thre sense of being just above the lowest Choir of angels, and then we have the Arch-angels, in the sense of being above all angels.
Actually, the term archangel itself is not found in the Hebrew Bible or the Christian Old Testament, and in the Greek New Testament the term archangel is used referring to Michael, who is called 'one of the chief princes,' and 'the great prince'.
The idea of seven archangels is most explicitly stated in the apocryphal Book of Tobit when Raphael reveals himself, declaring: "I am Raphael, one of the seven angels who stand in the glorious presence of the Lord, ready to serve him."
In Judaism the Archangels are given the title of śārīm, meaning "princes", to show their superior rank and status, so they are also called "Princes of Heaven".
In season 2 episode 6, when Crowley is in Heaven trying to find any info on Gabriel, Muriel gives him the missing Archangel's file explaining that even if they wanted, they couldn't show it to him, since only angels above the rank of Dominions could access it. Immediately after, without putting in any effort, Crowley opens the file, saying that he was an angel once and they never bothered to change passwords. (I totally read a fic like this btw).
When the Archangel Saraquel meets them and recognises Crowley, she says that they worked together on the Horsehead Nebula. So Crowley must have been pretty high up in the ranks if he worked with an Archangel.
When they show us the scene of the trial, Gabriel is ready to be cast down to Hell, but the Metatron stops him and says:
"You are not going to hell. For one Prince of Heaven to be cast into the outer darkness makes a good story. For it to happen twice makes it look like there is some kind of institutional problem."
So we know that one of the Seven Archangels has Fallen, and it could be Lucifer, even though in the bible it is never stated that he was an archangel, but wouldn't they have said so if it were the case?
Also in episode 2, when Shax tells Crowley that Heaven and Hell think Aziraphale has something to do with Gabriel's disappearence, she says:
"A miracle of enormous power happened last night. The kind of miracle only the mightiest of Archangels could've performed".
Reminds you of something? Raphael, one of the mightiest of Archangels?
I really hope they will confirm the theory in season 3.

Enoch in particular is interesting bc of Saraqael. It's the ONLY text that lists Saraqael as an Archangel. Michael, Gabriel, Raphael, and Uriel are identified as the Supreme Princes of Heaven, and Saraquel is one of the "seven holy Archangels", which also includes those four. Sandalphon isn't listed, but I DO think a fun little fact there is that he and Metatron are the only angels whose names end in -on, likely a reference to how they're the only angels who originated as humans. I don't think he and Metatron are 'twins' in the literal sense though? Enoch (pre-Noah) and Elijah (post-Noah) weren't contemporaries. They just happen to be the only humans who become angels.
hi!!!✨ god im so sorry ive taken so long to get to this, anon!!! - tbh, im finding saraqael a bit of an enigma, both from the GO narrative perspective and indeed trying to work out who they were in terms of biblical/apocryphal significance... i hope you don't mind, but im gonna talk about saraqael in general in my response; as seems to be the way, i typically get carried away in answering what seems to be a fairly straightforward ask!!!
edit: further speculation on BOL and saraqael's potential role in it
saraqael theory(?)/analysis:
i think are a couple of crucial bits to saraqael in s2, and not just the ones where they recognise crowley etc. i talked a little bit about what i think their rank is in GO, which i don't think is the same rank as the other archangels, but perhaps a lower archangel like sandalphon. in terms of what saraqael actually does... it feels like they are essentially in charge of earth operations, or something to that effect.
muriel is, by all accounts so far, a (very?) low ranking angel. and yet, when muriel finds the matchbox, it's saraqael that accompanies them to the archangels to report it. now, that doesn't necessarily mean anything - muriel could have gone to a supervisor and then it got escalated, but what saraqael says here:
Tumblr media
makes me think that, actually, saraqael knows muriel at least to a greater degree than the separation of an archangel (or whatever tier), and a 'lowly' 37th-class scrivener would have. in fact, this is the only scene other than presenting the matchbox, i believe, where we see saraqael and muriel interact? there is some kind of history there, and potentially even a degree of fondness.
now, let's take into consideration the theory that muriel themself may have been higher-ranking, and got Got by the metatron. they originally were going to demote gabriel to 38th Class; was saraqael similarly the one who wiped muriel's memory, as they attempted to wipe gabriel's? what was the purpose of saraqael being at the trial, other than to fulfil that purpose? and they took muriel directly into their chain of command as a means of keeping an eye on them, protecting them?
this kind of supports my thought that saraqael is somewhat an operations manager (but also...not just that at all*), doing essentially the archangel grunt-work, including keeping an eye on unauthorised miracles:
Tumblr media
then we take a look at their interaction with crowley; because i do think there's a lot more to unpack in this bit than that they may have worked on a nebula together, and that crowley doesn't remember them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
summarising a couple of observations:
the seemingly innocent but assertive point made that the trial was in fact real, and didn't take a long time to happen start to finish
the fact that saraqael even notices the interaction between crowley and muriel: he's dressed as an angel (and demonstrated as being a 'bee' when michael/uriel don't fully catch it was him), muriel seems - despite the aesthetic of heaven generally - to be tucked away in the equivalent of a cupboard cubicle, and he accessed a file without, presumably, any alarms - the file recognised his former rank/that he 'knew' the password... so what exactly prompts saraqael to come over in the first place?
saraqael looks happy to see crowley, possibly even a little relieved, but once again like they're... fond?
they use his chosen name (specifically not 'crawley'), and use it with ease despite knowing him pre-fall and therefore, theoretically, not having any cause to use 'crowley' up until this moment
saraqael seems disappointed that crowley doesn't remember them.
where am i going with this bit? well, put simply. i think saraqael had some hand in the mechanics of the fall. i think they were meant to wipe the fallens' memories, but jigged about with the settings. perhaps, now, they regret their part in it, and is working to undo it somewhat, from the inside. i think, where they can, they protect those that get fully wiped (ie. muriel, and gabriel had the wipe gone to plan). and i think, maybe just their favourites, they keep an eye on those that actually fell. and i think that they are trying to break out this information without outright saying it ("well, don't let me interrupt you! show him the trial..."), because they know first-hand the consequences. and they know the consequences, because they are literally metatron's operational right-hand* angel:
Tumblr media
this would explain why they seem to remember metatron in the bookshop: exposure to him? seems to fully understand how dangerous he is? not only does saraqael look genuinely apprehensive on behalf of michael, but watch their eyeline movement:
Tumblr media
(ok but a moment of appreciation for how adorably derek jacobi says 'piffle' i mean💕)
it almost looks like it goes from michael, and then flips to up beyond michael? as they clasp their hands together? and then after the cut, they're actually breathing so heavily, out of... stress? worry? this is such a tiny thing that may well just coincidental actor-choice on liz's part, but it certainly works in the scene context... that saraqael seems quietly and calmly terrified.
another point, back on the subject of saraqael's role in heaven; i feel like the source of both the earth observation files michael gets in s1, and the fact that metatron says he's "looked back over a number of [aziraphale and crowley's] exploits" may have come from saraqael themself. that's a bit tentative, but it would certainly fit that it would come, at least, from their department. say - metatron has been spying on our boys through the sigil in the bookshop (or something to that effect), has gone to saraqael essentially for intel, and then put the offer to aziraphale to return to heaven in order to split them apart, after seeing the extent to which they're entwined with each other.
we haven't seen a direct, lone aziraphale-saraqael interaction, but their line about, "we'll be keeping a very close eye on you, aziraphale.", doesn't actually feel as ominous as i once felt. in fact, it's muriel that saraqael sends down which - let's face it, by all accounts they are not the angel to send down to earth when camouflage is key - feels actually like saraqael was banking on covering up the miracle for aziraphale and crowley, or at least buying them time.
last little bit: the comment on aziraphale's frisbee halo trick makes me think once again of saraqael's potential role as, essentially, head of operations (declaring war is rather messy, they're right), but also brings me back to the point i made here about the halo toss... somehow, i feel like it signifies something a bit more than just a casual hand grenade.
Tumblr media
and now for the bible-y bits
well, i mean, there isn't really a lot to go on, lbr. as anon said (hi, anon, if you made it this far✨), they're described as one of the seven archangels in the first book of enoch (20:6), and if ive read correctly, the second book describes that they brought enoch himself to heaven... so maybe the GO narrative will follow this somewhat? if saraqael feels somewhat responsible for metatron being in the position he is, and having done the hypothetical things he's done? and that's why they might be trying to undo it, or undermine it?
i think the first book also describes saraqael (who i believe is synonymous with sariel and suriel, as well as other different but similar angel names in biblical/apocryphal texts) as being essentially the observer of justice and injustice on earth, "who sin in the spirit", which would also track against them having potential control over earth observations, and them potentially guarding over those that have fallen/have been punished by heaven.
i think some islam and talmud texts also indicate that saraqael may be azrael and metatron respectively, but i doubt that is an arc that the GO narrative will follow, nor indeed other bits and pieces from enoch that ive read through... but certainly there's enough that looks like it could have hypothetically inspired the saraqael story that im interpreting at the moment!
and as for metratr-on, and sandalph-on, iirc that is the meaning of the -on suffix, to reflect being born of man...? i looked at this a little while ago and found zephon as another example... parsing out abaddon kinda drove me a bit insane though, so that's where i left it! i agree that i doubt that metatron and sandalphon are twins, but definitely seems to speak to their origins, perhaps!!!✨

One thing I'm really looking forward to if when we get a season 3 is more development of/insight into Michael, Uriel, Saraquel: e.g. the angels who stayed in Heaven and perform their assigned roles.
I think in season 1 they were very clearly The Bad Guys because of the fact that they saw humanity simply as a fence they could easily tear down to fight against Hell and win. (btw Aziraphale's little "we will win" in season 1 gives us a little taste of what would infamously happen in season 2 but I'll get to that in a different post)
In season 2, I personally found the Heaven storyline to be a little bit boring, but that's mostly because season 2 wasn't necessarily plot-driven (in favor of character-driven) and was, as Gaiman has stated, a bridge between season 1 and 3.
There are scenes in season 2 where there's a rivalry brimming between the archangels Michael and Uriel regarding who should take Gabriel's place. I'm really excited to see how this plays out in season 3 considering that Aziraphale has now taken Gabriel's place, and needless to say, Michael and Uriel aren't the biggest fans of Aziraphale.
Another thing regarding the angels: I really hope they don't just stay static villains because I think the concept of "person who was created to work for Large Evil Company and has never ever thought differently" is actually so interesting and something that could be explored.
Furthermore, we've seen one of these Hopelessly Bureaucratic Angels (Gabriel) have his motivations completely changed with one storyline. So, if angels like Gabriel can fall in love with demons, what else can they do?
Could they become murderous?
Could they go against the Almighty/Metatron for their own selfish desires?
TL;DR: I think Aziraphale is in danger by accepting Gabriel's position.

It is time for my favorite game...
Tumblr media
Good Omens, What If.
Now yesterday, I read an amazing post by @ishomieokay, who postulated a very convincing theory that Aziraphale was going to end up being the Big Bad, because Supreme Archangel power was going to corrupt him.
Naturally this made me sad -- until I really started to think about it.
What If - Aziraphale did become power-mad?
What if he did become 'You Bullied Me And Now I'm Your Boss, Bitch' Supreme Archangel. Like it would be so FUCKING BAMF. Utterly horrifying, but utterly BAMF. He walks through the elevator, one of the archangels says something snide (my money is on Sandalphon, asshole), and Aziraphale just Supreme Archangel kicks him through the Heavenly Moon Door and makes him Fall. And while the other archangels are standing there, gaping, he straightens his collar and says, "I think you'll all find I have very little use for abusive language. Do keep that in mind. Where is my office?"
After that it's like as it's Lucifer 2 - The Principality Strikes Back. Aziraphale censuring angels left and right. Uriel doesn't get kicked - Uriel gets beaten for what they said about Crowley and then thrown out for a million mile dive. He makes Michael re-do the entire Second Coming. He's punching and kicking a hole in the archangel system that should be filled by someone who is willing to pull on the brakes. But no one does! Everyone is Too Fucking Scared.
The Metatron realizes that he hasn't trapped Aziraphale up there with them, they are all trapped here by A z i r a p h a l e. Aziraphale who is going to burn everything down because none of it is worthy (Aziraphale isn't worthy) of God's Love and they are just going to tear Heaven and Hell down to the nubs in the floor, and maybe Earth too because you know what, none of it is worthy of God (Crowley). Finally, Saraquel has had enough. She slaps the Down Button to Earth. Rolls herself into whatever dive bar that Crowley is in, and tells him point blank that if he doesn't help stop Aziraphale, it's going to be worse than Armageddon. Everything is going to be destroyed down to atoms, even wine.
Crowley gets to do two things that he's probably always wanted to do. One, he gets to be James Bond. Breaking into the Heaven (the Bond villain lair), knocking out some angel guards, maybe even punching Metatron in the face for getting them all into this situation in the first place. Second, he gets to kick open the doors to the Supreme Archangel's office, stare Aziraphale down from where he's seated behind his invisible glass desk (I imagine him petting a white duck. Why? I don't know.), looking forbidding and dressed in a silver white that matches his hair and his beard. Stereo-typical God, y'know.
And they stare at each other, for a long moment, glowering with all the hurt, and pain, and still - still - love that they have both known for six thousand years. Finally, Aziraphale speaks, his purple eyes flickering, "So what exactly are you supposed to be?" Crowley smiles That Sharp Smile, that one that Aziraphale adores. The one he actually fears. Crowley reaches behind his coat, and says, "Me? Crowley. Anthony J. Crowley. And I'm now the world's greatest magician, because I'm about to make you disappear." Aziraphale tenses in his throne, filled with that same sense of dread and can it be, hope? that Crowley is here to end him. Crowley doesn't look away as he growls, "Hocus Pocus, Supreme Arsehole." He pulls in front of him .... a bird cage. With a nightingale in it. Who immediately begins to sing. Crowley takes off his glasses, looks Aziraphale dead in the eye, and speaks in a rough voice. "I forgive you."
And just like that ... the Supreme Archangel crumbles down into dust, leaving behind a weeping Aziraphale.
End scene.
... I'd probably add some explosions in there. Just for fun. Oooooh and when Crowley is kicking ass through Heaven the song that plays is 'Don't Stop Me Now'.

Watching the scene in e5 The Ball where Crowley confronts Gabriel and tells him to jump out the window— I’m not sure that what Crowley sympathises with is memory loss.
Whether or not Crowley has ever experienced a memory wipe he definitely knows exactly what it feels like to be transformed into someone else. Gabriel to Jim. Angel to Demon. The angel is gone but you can still see where the angel was. You can feel where the furniture used to be. That’s the bit Crowley seems to really connect with and that makes complete sense just from The Fall. No joint experience of memory loss needed.
If this scene is not evidence that Crowley had his memory wiped then what evidence do we have left? We are left with Crowley not remembering Saraquel or Furfur. But Gabriel doesn’t remember Saraquel either. Why add that detail if these were meant to be clues to Crowley having had his memory wiped? Couple this with Crowley remembering the password from his angel days and easily recognising the Metatron when the other angels did not (yes I know he just saw him as a floating head in the files but the Archangels see that floating head all the damn time, Crowley is on the ball here), are these really clues for memory loss?
Perhaps these details are simply further clues to just how high ranking Crowley was in Heaven. Perhaps they are also intended to hint that Crowley doesn’t remember meeting Aziraphale as an angel either…

If Aziraphale does lose his memory ...
“I used to be like you are now, so innocent and pure, angel.” Crowley choked. This was the last thing he wanted, for Aziraphale to see him like this. Then he gently closed his eyes as Aziraphale held the burning sword above his head.
Crowley realized a while back that Aziraphale had lost all of the memories they made together the moment he stepped foot back in heaven. There was no going back from this. And Aziraphale will never forgive himself if he remembers. So he did the next right thing to do—stopping time.
“Promise me one thing,” he looked at straight into the Metatron’s floating head. “Aziraphale never remembers me when all of this is done.” He didn’t give the Metatron a chance to talk back and restarted time. After all, if Aziraphale remembers everything, who knows what he will do to Heaven. And that is something the Metatron wouldn’t want happening.
Crowley’s eyes drifted back into that moment in the bookshop. He slowly closed his eyes, carefully remembering every detail of Aziraphale’s being, no longer able to hold his tears. Aziraphale’s Archangel eyes bore deep into his soul. Almost. We had it almost. Angel.”
Aziraphale tightened his grip on the burning sword, watching the tears fall from the Demon’s yellow eyes. This Demon they talked about, he wondered why he was strongly bent on stopping the Second Coming. Why were the humans so important to him? But Heaven is never wrong and the Demons are meant to lose. The humans have had their run according to the ineffable plan.
Aziraphale held the sword higher in a stance, ready to banish the Demon Crowley for time and eternity when he heard that familiar voice on the back of his mind. “Almost. We had it almost.”
The Metatron stopped floating and went to stand beside Aziraphale, “Well, go on Aziraphale. Heaven’s victory is ours. And we can begin eternity.”
Michael and Saraquel were about to say something but the Metatron looked at them. Even Michael was questioning her intentions. This was all wrong she figured it out. She opened her mouth and was about to say something but she wasn't able to.
Crowley opened his eyes just to take a look at Aziraphale for the last time. When he did, for the first time in more than 6,000 years, he could see clearly. The veil has finally been lifted from his eyes.
Time stopped again. But not for Aziraphale and Crowley. And neither of the two noticed it.
Aziraphale’s memory came rushing back to him. “Almost. We had it almost.” Aziraphale began to sob.
Aziraphale finally remembered everything. From when he heard the first Archangel’s call out in the space to when he first saw him again as the Demon Crawley up until the time when Crowley’s kiss was all brand new. His angel heart shattered into a million pieces when he realized he wasn’t able to keep the promise he made when he left the bookshop. To protect Crowley. To correct heaven that they can finally be at ease together and just be an us. He can still see and hear Crowley's heartbreak.
The flaming sword fell halfway to the ground. A palm to his mouth. “Almost,” continued Aziraphale as tears began to flow from his eyes.
Every memory repeated back in his mind.
“Oh, Crowley. Please forgive me,” Aziraphale whispered, almost lost in the air.
No more, he thought. Faster than fast, he knelt down beside him and grabbed Crowley’s right hand in his left, pulled his collar and pulled him closer to him. Their lips met.
Aziraphale closed his eyes, and for the very first time of his entire existence, he let himself go. He kissed Crowley the way he wanted to kiss him back at the bookshop.
Crowley felt Aziraphale’s hand in his hair, gently pulling. He let go of Aziraphale’s hand and reached out to cup his face with his hands. Something he didn’t have the courage to do at the bookshop. Their tears continue to fall as Aziraphale pulled them even closer together.
Both desperate and yearning.
Hurting and healing at the same time.
The kiss went on until they were both grasping for breath. When they finally pulled away, Crowley was the first to speak before Aziraphale shamely gazed away.
“I forgive you.”
Aziraphale was about to say something when Crowley gently shook his head.
Crowley silently took Aziraphale’s hands and held on to them for dear life as they pressed their foreheads against each other.
“Well there they are again,” God thought to herself. A cheeky grin on her face as the nightingale on her shoulder started to sing. She could watch this forever but they all had work to do and an ineffable game to finish.
[Fast forward to something like this:]

Angel beauracracy
This absolutely BRILLIANT post by @halemerry ties together a lot of the s2 content in ways I adore and wish I had seen myself but for now I’ll just continue to praise and think over it. One particular detail I loved was the insistence on Crowley remaining true to the character and not taking on a specific role. What’s more, since there’s clearly been such emphasis on his past as an angel, there’s also the mystery of just who Crowley was and what place he’s held in the Divine Plan
We know GO takes many liberties with its source material (and with such a notable and vague text such as The Bible, there is a lot to work with), especially in regards to known individuals (i.e. Michael’s minor status in comparison to Gabriel, Sandalphon’s disappearance and Saraquel/Sariel’s introduction, Aziraphale as the Guardian of the East Gate). Though not directly translated into the story, the outlines of the source material are still recognizable and the broader concepts very much applicable (as is intended by a religious satire and/or parody of The Omen). So, this could imply that instead of impressing a specific persona onto a familiar character, a known character’s traits/background might be utilized for Crowley
As for who or what role that may be, that’s confusing for many reasons. When it comes to angels, there is very little blatantly mentioned by The Bible. Furthermore, setting of GO does not have specific theological distinctions, as it blends denominations and appears to take inspiration from many forms of worship, though presenting primarily as Christianity. And most importantly, the work is fictitious, so any and every kind of logic can be made up as long as it seems to work for the story. Nevertheless, according to a response by Gaiman, the structure looks something like this:
Metatron (“The Metatron is at the top, but he wouldn't actually show up on an organisational chart. He's just above everyone, and below God.” -Neil)
Archangels with a capital “A,” composed of the Chief Archangels (formerly, Gabriel), Higher Archangels (Michael, Uriel, and probably Saraquel), and lesser Archangels (Sandalphon)
Principalities (Aziraphale)
archangels with a lowercase “a”
Regular angels, such as 37th-degree recording angels (Muriel)
Season 2, while it does help give a better picture of Heaven’s structure, it also no longer completely explains this specific hierarchy as “Thrones” and “Dominions” are mentioned in ep 6, drawing a direct reference to the Christianity-based, Pseudo-Dionysian hierarchy
Generally speaking, Christian angelology organizes angels into three levels of three subsections: Seraphim, Cherubim, Thrones, Dominions/Lordships, Virtues, Powers/Authorities, Principalities/Rulers, archangels, and Angels. There are a variety of angels rankings throughout Jewish scriptures and other texts, making a neat list nearly impossible, but all listings share the concept that Archangels (“arch” or “chief” angels) stand closest to God. Some refer to a singular, head angel (usually, Michael), a group of three (Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael), a group of four, sometimes denoted as “throne-bearers,” (Michael, Gabriel, Raphael, and Uriel) a group of seven (Michael, Gabriel, Raphael, Uriel, Raguel, Saraquel, and Remiel as referenced by The Book of Enoch, which is a apocryphal script) or eight. We also know that the “Guardian of the East Gate” is referenced as a Cherub, so Aziraphale has either been demoted or the role changed entirely and he has always been a Principality
Assuming we uphold the Pseudo-Dionysian hierarchy, it looks like this:
Metatron
Chief Archangel and Archangels
Seraphim
Cherubs
Thrones
Dominions
Virtues
Powers
Principalities
archangels
Angels
For now not all of these types have been confirmed and more might be added, so only applying current canon ranks, the heirarchy looks more like this:
Metatron
Chief Archangel
Archangels
Thrones
Dominions
Principalities
archangels
Angels
However, the first few minutes of season 2 ep 1 actually some of this into question. In the Bible, there are no distinct, cosmic roles that the angels fulfill outside serving the Divine, but Jewish Kabbalah describes the Archangels acting as conduits for God’s power and vision in creating the universe. There is actually a lot more description of angels within Judaism than Christianity and seeing as Neil is Jewish, there is the possibility of it being influenced in such a way
There have been clear relationship between Crowley’s and celestial objects (the universe, planets, stars). Although stars can simply refer to angels, these connections could also be entertaining a further idea; a) he was an Archangel b) he was the Archangel Raphael, who has not been mentioned before and is related to the Kabbalah Tree of Life or c) he was an original character based on someone notable like Raphael. Or d) it’s none of these, but the story has thus far made many implications (verbal, physical, and canonically) that Crowley is a high-ranking demon of at least Dominion rank, so an Archangel is not out of question. And when Muriel is talking about the classified document, she says "You'd have to be a throne, or a dominion, or above." -- not, "you'd have to be at least a dominion" or "you'd have to be above a dominion" but "You'd have to be a throne, or a dominion, or above." There is this implication that Crowley was something much higher up, especially in the way he comfortably approaches the secret meetings of the Archangels.
Some other possible, relevant identities would be Samael (an archangel associated with tempting Eve), as well as Baraqiel (fallen dominion of the sky and seen in Aziraphale’s book about himself) or Kokabiel (a fallen high-ranking angel associated with astrology). Furthermore, the seven Archangels referenced in the Book are sometimes viewed as the angels who beckon the apocalypse in The Book of Revelation, which would fall in line with idea of season three following “The Second Coming.”
Other than that, as fire has been associated to him as well, there is the possibility that he might be considered a seraphim, “burning one,” or be associated (literally or metaphorically) with The Leviathan, an ancient, powerful serpent-like creature quoted about on Gabriel’s matchbox.
Either way, Crowley’s former status was high up and him being fallen has not stripped him of all his power, sense of duty, or kindness…
