Flash fiction #1
I stand before a shrine, head bowed and hands clasped. “Very well,” the demon’s voice rang, “your desire has been fulfilled – but at what cost?” I open my mouth to speak; the raspy whisper that emerges doesn’t quite sound like me. And my throat felt unused – but anew, like someone had rebooted it.
The grin on my face burst into a full-blown laugh. No longer the hoarse chesty laugh, but a light, silvery giggle. “I’d give up anything – everything – for a voice like this.” My voice, heavenly music to my ears. Of course it was worth sacrificing my spice tolerance.

(p.s. chorister here. it sucks to lose your spice tolerance after joining choir for slightly over a year- )
