SUMMERTIME, AND THE LIVIN'S EASY

❝ Can you please write an image with Percy where he’s dating Thetis(Achilles mom)daughter and he’s helping her with her water powers? And they kiss underwater?🥺🥺 ❞ — anon
in which percy teaches you how to use your powers (but you just really want to kiss him)
pairing percy jackson x thetis!reader
warnings none!!
When you first showed up at camp, Percy couldn’t help but feel a little competitive. Water was his thing. Whenever you needed any help with any sort of body of water, he was your guy! Your only guy! Because no one else at camp was as efficient with water as he is, since it is his father’s domain
Until you came along - a daughter of Thetis, the Goddess of water. Immediately, everyone was enamoured by you and your charms, telling you all about Greek mythology, with the first story you heard being of your half-brother Achilles. No one had cared to educate Percy that much. It didn’t help that you could talk to sea animals too. Everyday, whenever Percy would go to the beach, all the turtles and fish and hippocampi would tell him stories of your kindness. My lord, she helped us fix our cove today! My lord, she healed my broken fin! Percy was sick of it all
Secretly, however, he was intrigued by you too. You carried an ethereal aura wherever you went and your voice was reminiscent of the feeling of gentle waves rolling over Percy’s body on one of his late afternoon swims, the beach empty save for him and the sea creatures, who knew better than to disrupt him during his moment of peace
Besides, he did kind of want someone to talk to who was as connected to the ocean as he is. So he put his one-sided rivalry aside and decided to speak to you, quickly discovering that you actually weren’t very good at using your water powers. You could use them, of course, but it was never controlled and drained you quickly. So naturally, being the kind guy he is, Percy offered to help you hone your powers. Totally because he’s nice and not because you’re the most beautiful girl he’s ever met and he would rather die than pass up an opportunity to be around you
The two of you would meet at the beach when all the activities of the day were over and Percy would teach you about the water and all it has to offer. During one of your first lessons, Percy discovered you could will your legs to join and turn into a tail - making you a mermaid. He’d never seen something more bewitching in his life. He was also a little jealous, since he couldn’t turn into a merman, but watching you glimmer under the golden sun as you swam around with your tail had him forgetting all about that
Eventually, the two of you realised you felt the same about each other and began to date. The lessons never stopped, of course, but now you could say the cute boy who was training you’s your boyfriend and not just your friend
“Okay baby, this is the goal for today,” Percy said as he lifted a giant ball of water from the sea and made it hover in the air, letting you observe for a second before letting go of it. You nodded, biting your lip as you made your way over to him. Usually, you were pretty focused during your lessons. You could kiss Percy whenever you wanted, so it could wait until after you’d learnt a new skill, right?
Today was different. Something about how his toned body moved effortlessly through the water, as if he were a part of it himself, made your face turn incredibly hot, the veins coursing through his arms - accentuated by the strain he was putting on his body - doing nothing to cool you down
You started off by making smaller balls of water float - something you’d recently become very good at. When Percy cheered you on, placing a kiss on your forehead and mumbling about how proud he was of you, you couldn’t help but wish he’d move his lips just a little lower as you licked yours
Making space for you, Percy waded through the water backwards as he said, “you’ve got this! Don’t be afraid to stop or let me know if it’s too much!” He grinned, and your heartbeat got faster and faster at how caring he was. No one was more thoughtful than your lovely, sweet boyfriend who you desperately wanted to shower with an insane amount of affection right now
In theory, the task was easy. You knew you’d be able to do it if you just weren’t distracted. You were no longer the girl who’d have to fight the urge to pass out after using her powers once, your body now being able to withstand much more, but your heart just wasn’t in what you were doing
Percy noticed this. At first, he thought something was wrong. Did something happen today to dampen your mood? Just as he was about to ask, he noticed it. The way your eyes would linger on his arms, moving up to his chest and finally to his lips. He smirked once he realised, your adoration for him quickly inflating his ego
He was going to let you wait a little longer, curious to see if you’d say something or just tough it out, but after catching your cute, desperate stare a fifth time in a row, your tail glittering as it swished under the water, he knew he was a goner
“Hey, Y/N, do you know how to breathe underwater?” He asked, catching you off guard. You made a face between confusion and offence, your brows clearly screaming ‘of course I do, you idiot’
“I mean, yeah, obviously. Why?” You asked, inching closer and closer to him, craving nothing more than his saccharine touch - always as sticky as honey, his hands never failed to linger, making sure you knew you were appreciated. They did that now, their warmth making its way to your soul as Percy gently caressed your arms
Then, he pulled you underwater. He gave the nosy sea animals glares that sent them away, making the seabed yours for the time being. He cradled the back of your head and pulled you closer and closer, your hands pressed to his chest and your mouth parted, the anticipation nearly killing you
There was about a centimetre of space between you now
“Consider this revision, kay?” He whispered before finally locking his lips with yours

Australian summers are brutal. That’s why you and your closest friends have found refuge at the water park for the day. There’s a slight breeze once in a while which makes the heat bearable without being submerged in water constantly. You’ve set up camp on a few beach chairs with tote bags filled with snacks, towels, and ample amounts of sunscreen. You look like the textbook example of relaxation; oversize cat-eye sunglasses, a cute cover-up draped over your shoulders and laying back on the chair.
What broke your relaxation was the shrill shriek of a whistle from a lifeguard. You move your sunglasses down the bridge of your nose to peer at the cause of the loud interruption. He blows into the whistle again. Why can’t some kids just follow the rules?
To your surprise, at the other side of the pool, was one of the cutest lifeguards you’ve had the pleasure of seeing. His eyes were obstructed by reflective sunglasses, but they were framed by freckles that blessed his tanned honey skin. Bleach-blonde, sun-kissed hair that was slightly wavy and fluffed. You got the feeling that if he wasn’t forced to wear a shirt for this job, he’d be topless; the tank top he wore had the sides cut so wide that you could start to see his broad pecs and defined abs. Snug board shorts showcased his toned thighs that were splayed out against the white wooden chair. You didn’t even realize you were staring, eyes glazed over, until he turned towards you and sent a shy wave. You snapped out of it and waved back, which seemed to satisfy him since he smirked and went back to scanning the pool for troublemakers on top of his chair.
A splash of water and a mess of wet hair emerged right at the edge of the pool.
“Y/n, will you join your besties in the pool already?” One of your friends asked, arms folded against the edge of the pool. “There’s this group of cute guys we’re talking to-” She exclaims, pointing behind her.
“They’re all yours, because I,” You gesture to the lifeguard. “Have my sights on him. Also, I need to go refill my water bottle. So don’t mind if I do-” You stand up from your seat.
“Right… water refill… let me know how it goes!” She splashes water at you teasingly before wading back to her group. Was it a coincidence that you had to pass the lifeguard to get to the water fountain? Most likely. Now’s your chance, you thought. As you approached him, he noticed you and turned his head. He tried hiding his grin but failed. “Hey,” you greeted him, leaning an arm against the large wooden chair, painted white. He rested his forearms atop the armrests and had his legs crossed.
“Hey,” he replied, his voice deep and smooth.
He’s only said one word and you’re already addicted. “Great day out, isn’t it?” He asks, and you realise you could listen to him forever.
You huff out a laugh. “Yeah, I suppose.” He perked up at your response.
“Oh? And why do you only suppose?” He inquires.
“Well, in a perfect world, all these kids would follow the rules so you can retire blowing into that annoying whistle.” He laughs at your confession. “In a perfect world, I’d be in the break room eating lunch. Yet here we are.” His accent was like the final straw as his baritone voice left his plump lips. “I’m Felix.” He reaches out a hand.
“I’m y/n.” You shake his hand. He’s gentle yet firm, and slides his hand back to the armrest as if he didn’t want to let go. He clears his voice.
“I- um, I like your outfit. It suits you well, y/n”. He admits bashfully. You blush at his confession. Was he trying to flirt?
“Ah, thanks Felix, if you think so.” You reply.
“I do think so.” He says, in a spur of confidence. You squirm internally. You couldn’t handle much more of this- tension. It’s not every day that he stumbles upon someone like you- someone who he could barely keep his composure around. He was suddenly aware of every fiber in his body, wondering if his hair looked good or if there was sunscreen still smeared on his face.
“Well,” you sigh. “I should probably go. This bottle won’t refill itself.” You shake the empty water bottle in your hand.
“Y/n, wait!” He exclaims, startling you a bit. His cheeks were tinted pink with a blush.
“Um, my break should be in… five minutes. The break room has an ice dispenser, I can let you in? So you don’t have to use the lukewarm fountain water.” He checks the watch on his wrist and he sounds a little nervous at his proposal.
“Oh- um, sure! I’ll wait by my chair, then.” Taken aback, you tried not to sound too excited at the thought of spending time with Felix, alone. Feeling giddy, you shuffle back to your beach chair, which now feels miles away as you feel his eyes trailing after you. Safe to say you counted down every second until Felix’s replacement swapped him out. He does little to stop the grin creeping up on his face as he approaches you, taking his time.
“Shall we?” He proposes, the timbre of his voice delectable. You nod with a smirk. You try your best to gracefully stand from your position, but unfortunately, beach chairs were not designed with that in mind. There was tension in the air between you as he led you through the pathways inbetween pools and slides. The death grip on your water bottle was turning into a cramp in your hand, but there wasn’t much available to soothe your nerves. The only sound was the squeak of flip flops as you walked adjacent to eachother. Felix spoke up suddenly. “It’s right up here.” he gestures. You hum in reply. When you approach the ‘Employees Only’ door, Felix punches in the passcode while you wait behind him. His tank top was slightly billowing against his toned back in the breeze. The door unlocked and Felix grabbed the handle, subsequently holding it open for you.
“Oh! Thanks,” You exclaimed before He graced you with a small smile and a nod. A rush of cool air smacks you in the face as the heavy door closes behind both of you. You turn to see Felix standing behind you, leaning against the closed door, effortlessly charming. His hazelnut eyes were lidded with a glint of desire.
“We have the room all to ourselves, you know.” He says. Your breath hitches at what he seems to be suggesting. So, you step closer. You can see his chest moving with every breath he takes.. You brought your right hand up to grasp at the whistle and cord hanging around his neck. The damned whistle was calling out for you to just tug it so his puffy lips can finally meet yours. His eyes were inviting you closer as they pierced your own. When you were so close you could feel his shallow breath on your lips, he closed the gap. Subsequently, you tugged slightly at the cord which earned you a soft groan. His lips weresoft but not too moist, like he had just applied chapstick. He dragged his body closer to you and placed the palms of his hands gingerly at your hips, partially covered by your swimsuit. He pulls his face away, just barely in order to speak.
“Tell me you want this- or I'll let go and we can forget it happened.” His voice is airy and his stare hasn’t left yours ever since he pulled away. It was electrifying. Granted, you don’t get this opportunity often- or at all. Maybe that was why you found it so thrilling.
“I want this- want you.” Both of your hands moved to the junction between his neck and collarbones. Your eyes communicated a silent plea; one that Felix would never forgive himself for if he ignored. With a smirk, he dove back in. His freckled cheeks grazed your cheekbones with how deep he kissed you. His blonde hair fell forward as he tilted his head. At the same time, his thumbs were making little circles against your hips, gliding over your swimsuit before digging in to hook them underneath and into the supple flesh. You whined against his lips, and counteracted by sliding your hands down his exposed sides. You could feel every ripple of muscle, and his stomach tensed when you pased right at his lower waist. As an excuse to pull yourself even closer, you reached behind Felix and locked the door.
“Come here,” He growled against your lips, and led you to the wide armchair across the small room, with a little table adjacent to it where you set down your water bottle with haste. You grinded against eachother until the fabric felt unbearable. His hands move to your lower back to spin you around, so he can sit against the chair and pull you into his lap, facing eachother. You sat atop his toned thighs, the fabric of the chair adding much needed comfort.  He pulled your face back onto his as your tongues intertwined. As he was licking into your mouth with vigor, your hands roamed eachother’s tense bodies. You felt like you were floating when he pulled your cover up off of your shoulders as it fell onto his feet.
“My turn,” You spoke, slowly and sdeuctively. Your hands grabbed at the hem of his tank top to pull it over his head, his whistle hitting his chest. The wide planes of his chest and shoulders glistened in the fluorescent light. You ran your hands down his chest as he loosed a sigh onto your lips. Meanwhile, his hands inched towards the apex of your thighs, still covered by your swimsuit, but no doubt messy with your arousal.
“Hmm, I did this to you, yeah?” The pads of his right hand caress your folds through the fabric. A wanton moan escapes you. You smirk when you look down to see the tent in his shorts, desperately trying to press against you.
“I can say the same for you,” You counter. The palm of your hand ghosts over his hardness before pressing down slowly. He whines impatiently.
“I can unzip these, yeah?” You ask.
“Anything you want, just hurry up.” He squirms under you. You huff at his impatience, and undo his shorts with one hand, shoving his underwear down too. His length is weeping at the tip, swollen and dusty pink. Shuffling as close as you can, Felix pulls the lowest part of your swimsuit to the side with nimble fingers. You shiver as they brush against your folds in the heat of the moment. Grabbing him gently at the base, you align him with your hole, aching with need to quench that empty feeling. He slides against you with ease, the tip catching against your entrance before you sink lower, relieving the muscles in your thighs. His breathing is deep and controlled; His warm brown eyes were full of adoration and eagerness, focused on your lower half. His hands were glued to your hips, periodically squeezing and kneading the flesh.
“So pretty, hah…” He sighs, catching his breath as you reach the hilt. You tilt your head forward to press featherlight kisses to his freckled cheeks before landing on his bottom lip, catching it between your teeth to suck on. His cock throbs with pleasure, overwhelmed yet aching for more. Felix’s hips buck up from their own accord, catching you by surprise, sparks of electricity coursing up your body. His hands helped to guide you up and down his length, coated in slick.
The loud hum of the A/C muffles the mixtures of sounds you’re producing. Every upwards thrust releases a breathy moan as you shiver with pleasure. Your nails scratch against Felix’s shoulders which causes a grunt to topple from his lips, reddened from fervent licks and kisses. Every time your hips hit against his, Felix’s grunts and groans increase in pitch until he’s whining and whimpering with that saccharine low timbre. His sounds add to the build up of your release, as the upwards movements of his thrusts falter as pleasure takes over.
“You’re close, yeah? Please tell me you’re close…” He whines. You gasp as the feeling of your climax climbs higher and higher, you can almost taste it. The head of his cock nudges that sensitive spot against your plush inside, consequently making you clench around him.
“Felix-!” You gasp. “So close, oh my god, Felix! Fuck-”. Your body squirms with delight as Felix wraps his forearms around your lower back, your hands splayed out against his shoulder blades.
“Cumm-ing Y/n-! shit- I’m cumming-” His voice is strained as the final thread snaps. You feel like you’re floating as waves and waves of pleasure fall through you, eyes closed as your chin rests against the firm muscle between Felix’s neck and shoulder. The air is filled with twin gasps for air as you both come back to reality. The palms of his hands make soothing circles against your sides as you slide out with a deep breath, wincing.
“Was that okay?” He asks, switching back to his shy demeanor. You sigh with content.
“That was… definitely more than okay.” That seems to soothe his nerves.
“I definitely need water now…” You say. He spins you around so he’s leaned up against your back.
“Mmh, Sure thing.” He grumbles. He leaves a chaste kiss against the nape of your neck, in hopes that you’ll return his feelings.
“Come to the park again tomorrow, yeah?” You nod in response.
A dense thud against the door has you both jumping out of your skin and scrambling to your feet.
“Oi Felix! You good bro?”

You hated going to the beach.
The blazing heat of the sun scorching your skin, annoying children chasing each other around, the sand sneaking its way into your bathing suit uncomfortably, the list goes on.
But here you were, lying down on a beach towel under the shade of your umbrella, sporting the cutest two-piece bikini you’d never imagine wearing in your whole existence of living.
So, if you hated the beach so much… Why were you here again?
Oh yes! Trying to catch the attention of the hot lifeguard that saved your life the other week.
Was it desperate? Absolutely.
Did you really go out of your way to get the attention of a man? Of course!
Did you want to fuck him every time he’d glanced your way? Hell yeah!
Why wouldn’t you especially when the lifeguard in question made you melt into a puddle more than the radiating sun’s heat?
It was a fairly sunny day that time you went to the beach with your friend. The sun wasn’t too hot but it wasn’t too dark to go out either. You haven’t been out of the house in a while, plus it was starting to get stuffy inside so you thought a good breath of fresh air would do you good.
Your friend was busy playing beach volleyball with a bunch of other strangers as you waded in the somewhat shallow end of the ocean, trying to cool off and enjoy the calm waves moving you.
Because it had been years since you’ve gone to the beach, you didn’t anticipate how strong even the smallest of waves could be. So when the next wave came crashing into you as your back was turned, you immediately lost your balance.
You didn’t remember much but all you could remember was shouting for help and the next thing you know you feel someone performing CPR on you and immediately coughing out the ocean water.
“Hey, are you alright?” The deep voice asks you with concern.
As soon as you look at the person who saved your life, you’re too stunned to speak. All you could think about was how tanned and muscled this guy was.
Your cheeks start to blush when you get a better look at this guy’s face too. He looked like a Michelangelo sculpture that was brought to life. His strong jaw, his manly hands, and that nose…
Oh he was so hot.
“I-uh…” you couldn't find the words in you as his brown orbs looked deep into yours.
“It’s okay, I got you.” He reassures you as his hand rests on your lower back. “I’m Sangyeon.” He introduces himself. You give him your name and he replies with a gentle smile.
“Beautiful name for a beautiful girl” he replies. Your cheeks redden even more from the compliment.
You were so fucked after this.
And ever since he saved you that day, you kept on trying to remember the way his kissable lips felt on yours, the way he held you and made sure you were okay until you left the beach, and how his gaze on you made your knees buckle in place.
You wanted him. And you did everything you could to get his attention.
Asking him for help in carrying your stuff, teaching you how to surf, and “bumping” into him at the juice bar. Even going as far as asking for help to rub sunblock on your back. You remember the way you felt a pool of heat forming below as his hands delicately rubbed the sunblock on your exposed back, his hands lingering on your waist a little longer than normal, and his deep voice near your ear when he asked “Is this good?”
God you were so desperate.
But who wouldn’t be? Especially when you felt this spark between you aside from the raging physical attraction you had for him. You soon found out how good of a person he was from all the conversations you had with each other. How pure and genuine his soul was. He wasn’t just some hot lifeguard, but a man who genuinely enjoys helping others. You were starting to fall for him.
As soon as you saw him setting up his stuff at the lifeguard post, you immediately got up and adjusted your bikini and fixed your hair as you walked towards him. Your movements suddenly stop when you see another woman talking to him, his co-worker.
Her hand lingering on his bicep too long, the way he smiled at her, how she looked effortlessly beautiful especially with the wind blowing her hair. The way they hugged before she left to leave before swapping duties. Your insecurities quickly flooding inside you as you observed the two.
Who were you kidding? Sangyeon would never go for someone like you. Someone has handsome and genuine as he is? Not a chance.
You turned your heel and made your way back to your spot on the beach, immediately covering yourself with a large shirt and packing away your things. You didn't want to break down with all these strangers around and be reminded of what you just saw.
Sangyeon was about to climb up to his post when he saw you. As he was about to greet you and ask you how you were, you rushed past him, not paying attention to him in any sort of way. His happy demeanor dropped in seconds. You always say hello to him. It’s the one thing he always looks forward to every time you’re at the beach.
Did someone bother you while he was gone? He always made sure no creeps were walking towards you. Or did he do something to upset you yesterday? He was more worried about the latter.
Of course, he didn't want to bother you in that moment so he decided to just let you be and maybe ask how you are when he sees you again tomorrow.
Little did he know you wouldn’t be returning for a long while.
It had been a couple of weeks since you’ve made an appearance at the beach. Insecurities and anxieties getting the better of you that you just wanted to dig a hole and stay there til the big wave of embarrassment you felt remembering all the things you did to get Sangyeon’s attention washed away.
There were too many thoughts running on your mind tonight for some reason, so you decided to walk to the small beach spot near your house. This secluded spot was on the opposite end of the more populated area. You found yourself walking here at night often whenever you had too many troubling thoughts.
The sounds of crashing waves against the rocks were so calming. No person in sight to be found. The slight chill in the wind’s breeze blowing against your skin. How come you never go to this side of the beach during the day time?
You walked until you found a good spot to spread out your towel, opening your phone to play some relaxing music before lying down and looking up at the stars above. Just when you were about to close your eyes and enjoy the stillness of the moment, a deep voice startles you.
“I was starting to wonder if you got sick of me already.” You slightly gasp from the initial shock, but your cheeks start to blush as soon as you get up to see who it was.
“Sangyeon! Oh I- I didn’t know you’d be here” you nervously fiddle with your fingers, trying to avoid his gaze. Of all people that had to sneak up on you tonight, it just had to be him.
“Mind if I sit?” He takes a step forward, his feet at the edge of your towel.
“Uh- yeah. Sure..” You reply. You scoot over to make space before he sits beside you.
You instantly feel the warmth radiating from his body as his thigh nudges yours. The scent of his alluring cologne making its way to your lungs as you breathe in the ocean air. Thank god it was nighttime, otherwise the flaring blush on your cheeks and the redness of your ears would give away the effect he had on you.
There was an awkward silence between you two. What would you even say to him? You've never talked to him outside of the times you tried to get his attention. Before you opened your mouth to attempt to make conversation, he beat you to it.
“So… How are things? I haven’t seen you in a while.” he slightly turns his body to face you.
“Good.. Everything’s good..” You awkwardly reply. You wanted to cringe at the way you answered him, it’s small talk at its finest. He hums in response.
“You know… it’s not the same being on duty.” He suddenly blurts out.
“Oh? How come?” Your eyebrows slightly knit in confusion.
“Because I don’t get to talk to my favorite girl anymore” He sighs.
“Did she move away or something?” you ask, your heart slightly stinging at his words.
“No, uh-” He chuckles in between, finding your denseness very adorable. “She just ran off when I was about to go talk to her. I was actually gonna ask her out and everything too. But thank god I found her here on this side of the beach.” He looks straight into your eyes.
“Oh… OH! Me?” Your eyes widen. You couldn't believe what he just said. He called you his favorite girl too.
“Yes you!” He laughs and you smile with him. Suddenly his fingers intertwine with yours, slightly playing with them. He subtly moves his body closer to yours.
“You’re really beautiful, you know that?” His gaze doesn’t leave yours as he brushes a loose hair behind your ear. His eyes quickly glance at your lips, making the butterflies in your stomach flutter and twirl.
“Ever since I saved you that day, couldn’t stop thinking about you.” He admitted. “And every time since then I just couldn’t stay away…”
Sangyeon moves his fingers to your chin, slightly tilting your head to get a better look at you. He leans forward to try to kiss you, but you suddenly panic and stop him before he could even close the small gap between your lips and his.
“Actually! I wanted to ask you about that-”
“About what sweetheart?” His eyebrows slightly raise as he tilts his head.
“CPR. Yeah that. I was wondering like if you could teach me how? You know so that I can be prepared in case and save someone’s life just like you.” You ramble.
Sangyeon takes a moment to respond, the gears in his head turning before mischievously smirking at you.
“Sure, I’ll teach you now!” He replies. He shifts his body to a kneeling position.
“N-now?” You ask, wondering where this conversation is going.
“Yeah! C’mon. Lie down for me.” His hand slowly pressing on your shoulder as you lower yourself until your back hits the ground.
“Okay first thing you have to do is make sure that the victim lying down facing up, so you’ve got that covered.” He smiles at you, his hand resting on top of your stomach.
“Next, you have to check for any signs of breathing. If there is none, call for 911 and start placing both your hands on their chest, on top of the other.”
As soon as Sangyeon says this his hand slowly moves up to your chest, intentionally snaking them in-between your breasts making your breath hitch. You try to ignore the pooling heat forming between your legs.
“After, you’re gonna do thirty chest compressions, meaning pumping your hands on their chest.” Sangyeon gestures the motion. He slowly lowers his head, his face dangerously close to yours.
“Then tilt their head a bit, pinch their nose-” His face inching closer to yours, you can feel his breath fanning lightly on your lips. His lips lightly graze yours, making you gasp at how soft they feel.
“And perform mouth to mouth-”
“Sangyeon, I-” He smashes his lips against yours, making you whimper in desperation. This is so not happening right now. This must be dream.
Sangyeon kisses you like a man deprived of touch. He takes every chance he gets to remember the way your lips move with his perfectly. He shifts his position to hover above you. His hands grazing your waist before slipping them under your shirt, groaning in pleasure the moment his palms meet your naked chest.
You thank the universe for not wearing a bra tonight as his fingers flick and pinch your perked nipples. His lips never leave yours, desperately snaking his tongue inside your mouth as soon as your lips slightly part.
You place your hands on his strong chest, slightly pushing him away to catch your breath for a moment from all the kissing. Sangyeon’s lips start kissing your jaw and making its way to the most sensitive part of your neck.
“You don’t know how long I've been wanting this…” He mumbles. You let out a breathy moan as he rolls his hips into you, his hard length pressing rubbing against your throbbing core.
“Sangyeon-” you moan out his name as he grabs your hands and places them over your head. You wrap your legs around his waist, pulling him closer as he continues to grind his hips. He holds your wrists with one hand as the other slips under your shorts, your hips jolt as he starts to skillfully rub your sensitive bud.
“So wet for me sweetheart. This because of me?” He whispers in your ear.
“Y-yes. Always for you…” You whine.
“I feel dirty every time I stare at you in your cute little bathing suits. You know that? Always getting me hard during my shift sweetheart.” He groans.
“Fuck- that time you asked me to rub sunscreen on your back, had to stop myself from pressing my cock against your ass.” He smirks before kissing your neck again, his fingers quickening the pace before inserting them in your wet entrance.
You let out a loud moan feeling his thick fingers fill you up.
“That’s it sweetheart, let those pretty sounds out. Been dying to know how you sound like-” He pumps his fingers into you faster, the squelching sound of your wet pussy ringing in your ear. He moans into your mouth as he kisses you again, rutting himself against your inner thigh.
The smell of his cologne lingering in your nose, the sounds of the waves crashing around you, the vibrations of his groans electrifying you within, his strong hands holding you down, you brain was starting to get foggy for the overwhelming sensations. The coil inside your abdomen tightening slowly.
“S-sangyeon- wanna touch you-” You mumble against his lips.
“Please do-” He lets go of your wrists. You hastily untie the drawstring of his shorts and slip your hand under the waistband. Sangyeon lets out a pornographic moan as soon as your soft hand grabs his cock. His oozing precum making it easy for you to fist his length up and down in a fast pace.
He curls his fingers inside, hitting that delicious spot inside you that you could never reach on your own. You continue to fist his cock vigorously, both of you moaning into each other’s mouths.
“I-I’m gonna-” You whine.
“That’s it. Cum on my fingers sweetheart. Wanna see your pretty face when you cum.” He adds a third finger inside you, stretching your walls even further. Your orgasm hits you right away after a few pumps of his fingers inside you.
Your brain fogs up for a moment as you catch your breath before coming back to earth. When you open your eyes to see Sangyeon you see him looking back at you sucking on his fingers as he savors the taste of you.
“Taste sweeter than I imagined.” He releases his fingers from his mouth with a pop. The sight almost making you wet again.
Sangyeon lends his hand to help you sit up from your position, your chest bumping into his in the process. Your eyes widen when you suddenly realize Sangyeon didn’t reach his high with you.
“Oh- you didn’t get to-”
“Don’t worry about me, okay? I can take care of it myself. Wanted to make you feel good.” He softly smiled while caressing your cheek. He was more interested in you reaching your high above anything else to be honest.
“But I want to…” You shyly look away as you admit this to him. “Been wanting to show how thankful I was for you saving my life…” You cheeks blush.
Sangyeon lets out a chuckle, his fingers holding your chin up to look at him.
“Is that so?” He smirks.
“Y-yeah.”
“If you insist.” He leans closer to your face. “As long as I get to come over your place and…” His other hand sliding between your legs, squeezing your inner thigh in the process.
“… You wear that cute little bikini you were wearing the last time I saw you. Deal?”
You smile at his suggestion as you graze your fingers delicately over his clothed erection, making him lightly gasp at your touch.
“Deal.”

Evette and I went to my favorite local beach again yesterday! 🏖️ This time she wore Gran E’s vintage sunflower swimsuit 🩱🌻 from her story (or as close an approximation as I could find on Etsy). We waded in the shallows 🌊 for a bit, then Evie pulled her hat down over her eyes and sunbathed ☀️ while I went swimming (I kept a close eye on her, of course).
.....
“Wow, the lake here is really beautiful!” Evie said, looking out over the expanse of blue water. Then she saw Marley’s frown. “What?”
Marley sighed. “Today it’s beautiful, and this beach especially is usually nice, but we actually have a lot of problems with the lakes here, especially after a heavy rain. Madison was built on marshland, so when it rains a lot, we have a high risk of flooding, and all that water sweeps things from the city into the lakes, like pesticides and fertilizer. Then, if it gets hot right after a rain, we’ll get blue-green algae blooms from the fertilizer that got washed into the lake combined with the heat.” Marley saw Evette looking worried. “It’s totally fine today, I checked the water quality online before we left. Plus, it’s obvious when the water is bad: it gets cloudy and green, and you can smell it. I just wish our city government cared more about cleaning up our lakes.”
“Why don’t you do something yourself, like how my friends and I organized a cleanup of the Anacostia River?”
“Well, it’s more difficult than just trash in the water. The big problem is the pesticides and chemicals and stuff, so the best solution would be making stricter regulations on that sort of thing and enforcing them.”
“Well…” Evette said thoughtfully. “Maybe just talking about it, like you’re doing with me, can help at least a little. Raising awareness of the reasons this happens could make individuals less likely to use harmful pesticides on their gardens, and also put pressure on your local politicians to prioritize environmental regulations.”
Marley nodded. “I like that idea.” They paused, then grinned. “For now, since it’s nice, let’s get in the water!”

Summer Fun.
Fatgum x reader

Tumblr media
TW: Going to the beach. Otherwise, there are none. WC: 847
You finished packing your beach bag by throwing in a bottle of sunscreen. You slung the bag over your shoulder and went to the front of the house where you pulled your sandals on and left your apartment to see Fatgum waiting in his old Volkswagen type 2 van that was painted a bright yellow and had his agency logo painted on the side. Kirishima and Tamaki were in the van as well waiting for you to arrive and join them to go on a trip to the beach.
Taishiro looked out the passenger window from the back of the van where he was passing out water bottles to the students in the seats behind him. He smiled and waved at you before unlocking the passenger door and opening it for you. “Glad you could come. Do you have everything? He asked as you climbed in and buckled yourself in. “Yup. I’m already wearing my bathing suit and I have a change of clothes, my towel, sunscreen, a bottle of water, some snacks, my phone and wallet, and a book to read in case I want to just chill out. I think I’m set.” You told him. “Sounds good. Let’s go.” He spoke and put the van out of park and into drive to begin the hour or so trip to the beach. You settled back and looked out the window to watch the scenery go by.
Soon, you and your friends arrived at the beach and everyone climbed out. Kirishima and Tamaki went to the beach to find a place to set up the umbrella and towels as you and Taishiro grabbed the ice chest with food and drinks and followed the two students onto the warm sand.  Kirishima and Tamaki found a nice place away from the main crowd by a giant boulder to set up the umbrella and towels at. With some help from Taishiro, he and Kirishima got the umbrella planted in the ground and you laid out your towel under the shade of the umbrella and set up your bag behind the cooler to keep it hidden. You pulled off your sun dress to reveal your swim suit. You heard a cat call whistle from Fatgum which made you blush. “I’m going to go for a swim. Are you boys coming?” You asked. Kiri and Taishiro agreed to go with you once they applied sunscreen while Tamaki said that he would stay with the cooler and their personal items to watch them and keep them safe. You smiled and thanked him as you pulled out your sunscreen and applied it to your skin. Fatgum walked over to you and offered to help apply the sunscreen to your back. “Sure. I could use the help. Did you already get some on your back too?” You asked as you handed him the bottle and turned around so he could apply it. “Yup, already done. Thanks for asking, sweetheart.” He told you. You smiled at him calling you sweetheart and waited for the sunscreen to be applied. When he was done, you turned to see Kirishima already halfway down the beach, heading to the water. You chuckled and followed him with Taishiro right after you. You stopped just before the water and took a deep breath to let yourself relax before wading into the shallow part of the ocean.
You let yourself wade deeper, until the light ripples of the ocean lapped at your hips. You enjoyed the cooling sensation of the water around your legs as you sunk down and began to swim in the area, eventually going back to land and heading back to where Tamaki was, laying down on your towel and taking a nap.
A few hours pass and you wake up to Taishiro nudging you. “Sorry to wake you, darlin’ but the sun is going down and I thought you’d might like to see it. Also, we will be going home soon once the sunset is over.” He told you. You nodded and sat up to see an amazing sunset that lit up the sky with an assortment of vibrant colors that seemed to transfix you. Taishiro helped you to your feet and led you down to the water to wade through as the sun glinted off the waves. He held your hands and faced you, looking into your eyes. “Y/n, there’s something I’ve been wanting to ask you for a while now… Would you like to be my girlfriend?” He asked your eyes widened and you hugged him and gave him a kiss while you could hear cheers coming from where Kirishima and Tamaki were. Taishiro set you down in the shallows and walked back with you to where your stuff was and you helped pack the van up again and headed home. The end.

6 years old, Jack Atlas is the prince of his kingdom and didn't have one real friend or kids he wants to play with. The other kids his parents make him hang out with are other nobles and royalty and Jack just does not get along with them, they are not worth his precious time. Although, Jack was starting to get lonely with his reluctance and pickiness of who he associates with.
One afternoon, Jack sneaks out of the castle by himself with no guard and decides to go to a nearby beach, it was a small beach near the castle that no one ever went to. It was quiet and secluded, perfect for Jack to just pick up rocks he finds and skip them across the water. Who needed friends anyway? Jack was gonna be king one day and he'll surround himself with all the riches and people that would praise him.
Jack kicked his shoes off and sat close to the water and let the warm waves wash up around his feet, he closed his eyes and smiled to himself and picked up a small shell next to him and skipped it across the water. The shell skipped a couple times but a splash where it'd stop and sink didn't come instead, the sound of the shell hitting something was heard and a quiet "Ow." that sounded mad filled his ears. Jack startled and opened his eyes, he was guarded yet prepared to fight. Jack was expecting a robber that followed him, but what he saw instead was another kid close to his age in the deeper part of the ocean a little ways of Jack.
This kid's hair was the wildest hair he's seen, and thats saying something considering the way some nobles look. The kids dark hair stuck up in a weird way and he had golden streaks of color highlighted through. The kid was also glaring at Jack, Jack glared back defensively.
"Do you have a problem, kid?" Jack asked haughtily.
No response, the kid just continued to stare at him. Jack pouted and crossed his arms.
"Hey, im talking to you. Do you know who I am?" Jack yelled.
The kid shook his head.
"Should I?" the kid asked.
That annoyed Jack.
"Im the prince of this kingdom, one day I am going to be king! King Jack Atlas!" Jack beamed and laughed loudly and proudly. "I also addressed you with a question, you should feel honored, so answer me. Do you have a problem?"
The kid pursed his lips and his eyebrows were furrowed.
"Do all humans talk as much as you?" The kid asked in rude curiosity.
Jack pouted again and stood up from the sand and aggressively pointed at the stranger.
"That's no way to talk to a prince of my status! Get over here and address me properly!" Jack commanded.
The kids crude stare shifted into a frown and stared down to the water.
"I can't." the kid responded quietly.
"Why not?" Jack asked as he took small steps into the water, ignoring his pants getting wet.
The kid looked surprised at Jack approaching him and turned away with no response. Then Jack saw the most mesmerizing sight, a black scaly tail that had glimmers of golden scales in the sunlight as the kid dived down into the water. A merman...Jack just saw a real merman, something of legends. Jack reached out and waded deeper into the water and tried to reach out to the kid.
"Wait, hold on!" Jack called out.
But it was too late, the kid was gone down into the depths of the water. Damn, Jack wondered if he'd ever see this kid again. Or if this was all just a strange dream.
~ ~
It was not a dream, everyday Jack snuck out to the beach behind the castle and waited to see the mermen kid again, the one with the beautiful tail and funny hair. It took 3 months for his hopes and prayers to come true. Jack saw familiar hair peak out from behind a rock and met his eyes, the merman tried to cower a way but Jack called out at him to stop.
That day they actually talked, Jack learned that this merman's name was Yusei. Yusei was kind and curious about humans, sometimes he brought Jack shiny jewels he found at the bottom of the ocean.
Everyday Jack and Yusei met at that same spot, many years passed by and they got older and older. At 18 years old Jack Atlas became a young king, he couldn't wait to tell Yusei after his coronation!
Jack ran out early after his own crowning that evening, donned fully in his nice coronation outfit and saw Yusei sitting on the rock, illuminated beautifully by the moonlight.
Yusei smiled and waved to Jack, Jack in all his excitement ran into the water and he and Yusei bumped fists and they shared bright smiles.
"You really became king, Jack." Yusei said in a gentle voice.
"Of course, its my birth right! Did you have any doubts?" Jack questioned.
"When we were kids, I thought you just full of it." Yusei said in a teasing voice.
"How dare you!" Jack fumed in a pout and splashed Yusei.
"Sorry, Sorry...your highness." Yusei joked and splashed Jack back with his tail.
But the swipe of his tail was strong and it ended up completely drenching Jack.
"Yusei!!!!" Jack yelled and tried to lunge at Yusei to grab him.
But Yusei was slippery and quick and dived into the water to avoid Jack's playful rage.
Jack and Yusei spent all night that evening laughing and having fun, Jack didn't need to be in the castle surrounded by fake people who tried to get to know him for his status and money.
He had a real friend and he happened to have a tail and live in the ocean, But despite their differences. Jack and Yusei have and always will be good friends.

Hi :)
Maybe 33? "the last adventure you’ve been on?"
Hi!
hmm, not sure I really have an answer for that one, I've been been dealing with chronic pain that severely limits where I can go and what I can do. I guess it would be when I recently went to the beach for the first time in a few years bc my pain is now managed enough for me to be able to go on a 15 minute car ride (but only sometimes). It was nice though, I got to see friends I hadn't seen in a while and was able to wade and look for sea glass. It was also nice to be in the sun for so long
not a very exciting answer, but it's the most I've done in a while lol

Because my mum lives overseas I did the interview over video call and recorded the conversation, then using the otter website I transcribed. There was a lot of content, but I decided to focus on her transition into Mexico and edited it down to this.
“I was living in London, where I had ended up After I finished university. I spent about five years working in fashion publishing and living the city lifestyle... and it ended up feeling soulless. I reached that personal point of: help me universe, something's got to change. I remember going to a bookstore and finding a book called ‘wherever you go, there you are’ - a real hippie book on Mexico. I thought if I go there, I can use my Spanish, which I had learnt in college. So I went, pretty much there and then. once I arrived in Mexico, it turned out to be the middle of the rainy season and I ended up stuck on the wrong side of a jungle road that had turned into a river. The bus had to stop and everyone was left just standing with the rain falling on us through the leaves. The people that wanted to carry on had to wade across the river, which was actually going quite fast. I remember following a woman with a chicken on her head. After standing in the jungle for an hour with a few old women and chickens, rain seeping through my clothes, I  squashed into a shared taxi, and further down the road, the tire blew out. Then once again I found myself stuck waiting in the middle of a long road in pitch black, the only thing I could see is the rain in the headlights and there was this loud Erie repetitive sound ‘Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah….’ Of  100s of 1000s of rainy-season bullfrogs, which, to my mind, were all heartily laughing at me. What kind of journey had I started? When I finally made it to the beach I  found a hut on stilts by the sea that was around 30 dollars a week. The sun was coming out, it had finally stopped raining and the beach looked like a wild paradise. And essentially, that was it. With no desire to travel anymore, I had arrived at my destination.
I ended up living in a rustic house built by my then partner, and we sort of decided it was time for kids. I never felt like I was unsafe. But I didn't really have a clue where I was and what I was doing. And I was in the middle of a macho society in a basically abusive relationship. But what I was experiencing was just normal there, so I lost my frame of reference.  I always felt like I kind of missed out on the whole pregnancy thing if I'd been pregnant in England, I would have had cute dungarees and gone around the supermarket picking out all sorts of nice things, but being pregnant in Mexico, I literally was wearing surf shorts and big T-shirts. It got really lonely because I didn't have any freedom. I was the only one looking after the kids and my partner would just go out at night and come back when he felt like it. And he wouldn't let me go out. So that was it. My world got really small. Just me and my girls and I had to surrender to that and let everything else fall away. It was survival, but it became also very meaningful.
I remember when got Malaria, I had this out of body experience. I remember having thoughts that came from beyond myself, while my body was wracked from fevered shivering, the thought came: ‘this is your resistance’. So, I chose to surrender. I said ‘if this is resistance, then I surrender’ and at that moment I went out of my body and found myself floating in waves of golden bliss. I was in this beautiful calm bliss. I somehow knew that the sickness was the medicine and that I had connected to a wisdom that existed beyond myself. I guess in a sense my whole stay in Mexico was a journey of resistance in a state of golden bliss.
All my belongings I had arrived with essentially just went and it was as though I was being stripped down to nothing, like a spiritual cleansing... I remember specifically having this really nice Nikon camera, I had gotten from a friend in London, but we had to sell it because we didn't have any money, and lost all the photos in the process. I learned to just live in the moment and to trust that our needs would be met. Everyday life was extremely physical and challenging at the most basic level. In that kind of place, everything is dramatic and extreme. You have to have your own belief system to make sense of the chaos. Nature was always a constant physical presence around me and I learnt to appreciate the small things in her. It wasn’t paradise like the postcards, but building our own house from natural resources, cooking on the fire, drawing water from the well, washing everything by hand, walking barefoot… I loved all that. It woke up my spirit. I think my relationship with Mexico provided the journey that I pretty much I asked for, to kind of return me to my soul and a more enduring sense of self.”

the bet || j.ww x reader
Summary: you help your boyfriend’s best friend win a bet against your better judgement
Warnings: swearing, lil bit of jealousy, light smut (18+)

“Hey, can I ask a huge favor?”
You hoisted yourself up from your beach towel onto your elbows and pulled down your sunglasses to glare at the boy in front of you. You narrowed your eyes at him in suspicion. What could Kim Mingyu possibly want from you?
“What is it?”
He ran a hand through his still-wet hair awkwardly. “Um, the boys and I are about to play a game of volleyball, and we’ve bet some money on it…”
“Okay?”
“And, well, it’s me and Hansol against Wonwoo, Soonyoung, and Seungkwan. Wonwoo’s their best player and I was wondering if you could distract him? So that we have a better chance of winning?”
“Distract him… how?” you asked, not fully understanding.
“You know… whatever it is you do that drives Wonwoo crazy. He’s your boyfriend, I’m sure you know how to wind him up.”
“You mean you want me to get him hard during your game?”
Mingyu nearly choked at that. “Um, I mean pretty much, yeah. Just do something that will throw him off his game.”
“So you want me to help you guys cheat?”
“It’s not technically cheating.”
“I think your definition of cheating is much looser than mine.”
“So is that a no?” he asked.
You thought about it for a second. “Is there anything in it for me?”
“We’ll give you a cut of the winnings.”
You found yourself grinning. “How much did you guys bet?”
“Two hundred if they win, three hundred if we win. Basically whoever’s on the losing team has to cough up a hundred bucks.”
“Jeez, I can’t believe Wonwoo is risking that much on a stupid game.”
“Are you upset?”
“No, it’s his money he can do whatever he wants with it. I just think he’s a dumbass.”
“Not arguing with that.”
“Do you need me to remind you that you’re betting the same amount?”
“Fair enough,” he chuckled. “So you’ll do it? For a hundred?”
“Yeah, you’ve got yourself a deal.”
“Pleasure doing business.” Mingyu smirked and held out his hand for you to shake. You rolled your eyes at the formality but shook his hand anyway, just as Wonwoo came up to the both of you and clapped Mingyu on the shoulder.
“What are my best mate and my best girl talking about?” he asked, leaning down to kiss you.
“I wanted to go swimming, but Mingyu said you guys are about to play volleyball?” You piped up before Mingyu could say anything. Maybe you should’ve felt guiltier than you did about lying to your boyfriend and for what you were about to do, but hey, a hundred dollars was a hundred dollars . And if everything went according to plan, you’d be getting some good dick too. A win win.
Wonwoo frowned a little bit. “Oh yeah, sorry. Wanna play, love?” he offered. “There’s still some room on Mingyu’s team.”
You made a face. “What about your team? Can’t you make one of your other team members switch?”
He winced. “I love you, y/n, but you’re shit at sports.”
Any trace of remorse left over what you’d agreed to do dissolved in that moment. He fucking deserved what he was about to get.
“The stupid game is that important to you? Asshole,” you scoffed, and put your sunglasses back on before laying back down on the towel.
“Y/n,” Wonwoo whined, and crouched down next to you. “I-”
“Go play your fucking game.”
He stood back up, but lingered for a moment. You could tell he felt bad, but you weren’t having it. “Wanna go swimming after?” he asked in a quiet voice.
“Sure, whatever.”
You could tell he’d walked away when the shadow over you disappeared. You weren’t going to lie to yourself, you were a little pissed about the comment he’d made. Were you shit at sports? Yes, definitely, but could he have at least pretended to love you enough to be on the same team as you? Also yes. He should’ve known you were going to say no anyway.
While you were still fuming you hadn’t even realized the boys had started the game. Not even a minute in and you were already slacking on your end of the bet. You propped yourself back up for a moment to watch. You could see why Mingyu had asked for your help. Wonwoo and his team were dominating so far, and you couldn’t help but admire how fit your boyfriend looked as he served the ball to the other side of the court. You licked your lips absentmindedly, ready to pull him back to the car right fucking then.
You forced yourself to stop watching the game stood up from your towel, brushed yourself off, and began walking towards the water. You made sure to pull your bikini bottoms as far up your ass as you could in the process just to get Wonwoo’s attention as you walked past the volleyball net. Sure, you’d agreed to go swimming with him after the match, but you’d never promised to wait for him.
As you made your way down to the shore, you noted that not only Wonwoo’s head turned to watch you walk, but all five of the boys cast their attention away from the game and towards you. You glanced behind your shoulder for a second, and caught Mingyu’s smirk. He took advantage of Wonwoo’s lapse in concentration to spike the ball back over to their side and score a point.
You heard some yelling and protestation, but pretended to ignore it and continued to wade into the water.
It was warmer than you thought it would be, and deeper. There was a steep drop a few feet in that you might have tripped over if you weren’t careful. You only ended up staying in the ocean for a few minutes; Wonwoo couldn’t really get distracted by you if your whole body was submerged underwater. You weren’t there to swim around anyway, just to get your bathing suit wet so it would stick to your body.
You’d worn one that didn’t have pads in it so you knew that once you got out of the water the whole beach would be able to see your nipples poking through the fabric. You didn’t have a problem with that. Wonwoo might.
While you were down there you got your hair wet too, just for good measure. Might as well pull out all the stops since a hundred dollars were on the line.
You weren’t sure what the score was by the time you made your way back up to your towel, but you didn’t make an effort to ask. What you did know, though, was that Wonwoo was getting frustrated. Even from where you were you could see that his jaw was clenched and his brows were furrowed.
The opposing team seemed to be doing just fine though, and you stopped to watch them high-five each other after Mingyu scored another point by slamming the ball over the net onto Wonwoo side of the court.
“Damn, nice one, Gyu!” you called out from where you were standing, giving him a big smile and thumbs up. It was sort of dorky, not to mention a cheap shot, but if you knew Wonwoo as well as you thought you did, it’d be the perfect thing to rile him up.
“Thanks, y/n!” he shouted back and winked, ignoring the weird look Hansol gave him. “It’s about time you started rooting for the winning team!”
You struggled not to laugh when you looked back over to the other side of the court and saw all three boys scowling at Mingyu. You didn’t even know why he needed you in the first place, he knew how to push their buttons so well already.
Wonwoo’s fists were clenched now, and he looked this close to tackling his best friend to the ground. The two of you weren’t even flirting with each other, not really, but Wonwoo was the most competitive person you knew and it wasn’t always the best color on him. For you to be cheering for the team that he’s not on, and for that team to be winning- there was no doubt in your mind that he was royally pissed. Not to mention, that you just so happened to be cheering for his attractive best friend who may or may not have mentioned having sex dreams about you once or twice in passing.
It was good, but it wasn’t enough. Soonyoung made some offhand comment about how close the scores were so you knew you needed to keep going. You turned your attention away from the game again and lowered yourself down on your stomach on top of your towel and casually undid the strings of your bikini top to “sunbathe”.
If anyone asked it was so you didn’t get tan lines on your back, it was something that a lot of women did. In reality, however, you didn’t give a shit about tan lines, you just wanted to see how Wonwoo would react.
You pulled out your book to read while you tanned, tuning back into the game every once and a while to see how it was going. You could hear Soonyoung and Seungkwan yelling at Wonwoo to ‘pay attention’ or ‘snap the fuck out of it’ and smiled to yourself, excited for what was to come.
After several more minutes, your bathing suit was almost dry and you were starting to fall asleep on your towel. The volleyball game was taking way longer than you anticipated and you just wanted Mingyu and Hansol to win already. You didn’t have any other ideas to distract your boyfriend so you hoped they could pull it off.
Then, what you would call a fucking miracle happened. You were still nearly dozing off on top of your book when a pink Frisbee landed on the sand right in front of your face.
“Sorry about that!” called the voice of its owner and you squinted to see him jogging over to you. A few of his friends weren’t far behind and they all congregated in a little group in front of your towel. They looked to be about your age, maybe a little older. “Sorry to wake you up,” the ringleader apologized again, but smiled like he wasn’t really that sorry.
You propped yourself up on your elbows, one hand holding your loose bikini to your chest, while the other handed the Frisbee back to smiling guy. “No worries, I didn’t mean to fall asleep anyway.”
“What’s your name?” Ringleader asked. “I’m Jeonghan, and these are some of my fraternity brothers.”
Of course. You should’ve guessed. They were all jacked, tan, and had an air of privilege about them that you couldn’t miss. They were objectively cute, sure, but nothing in comparison to your boyfriend playing volleyball behind you. Not to mention their pack mentality freaked you out a little.
“I’m y/n,” you said and held your free hand out to them to shake, still keeping your other hand on your bikini top so you wouldn’t flash them. “Are you guys on a holiday break or something?”
“Yeah, just trying to make the most out of our last few days.”
“You from around here?” another boy asked, not being subtle at all in the way he was eyeing you.
“No, we just took a little day trip,” you explained and cleared your throat, wondering how long they’d stick around and when Wonwoo was going to come over and dick you down out of jealousy.
“We?” Ringlea- Jeonghan asked, cocking his head to the side. “Are you here with your friends?”
“Her boyfriend, actually,” Wonwoo piped up calmly from behind you. You looked back and saw him standing a few feet behind your towel with his arms crossed. He could be annoying, but fuck if he didn’t have good timing.
“Oh-uh, well I was nice to meet you.” Jeonghan mumbled abruptly and nodded to his friends to get back to their Frisbee game. They were gone before you could even say goodbye back.
“Attracting all sorts of attention today, aren’t you, love?” Wonwoo sneered and knelt down beside you.
His words went straight to the heat between your legs and you turned over onto your back to get a better look at him. “I don’t know what you’re talking about,” you lied, daring him to challenge you.
“I think you do, y/n,” he continued. The way he whispered your name sent a shiver down your spine. “I mean, you’re practically naked in front of the whole beach right now.”
“I’m wearing a swimsuit.”
“You know what I mean. And all for what? To make me jealous? So I’d fuck you? Because you could’ve just asked, baby.”
You whimpered, but didn’t say anything and leaned up to kiss him, desperately wanting to feel his lips against yours. He leaned in too, but stopped just short of your mouth, pulling back a bit to look into your eyes. “I could just pull your bikini bottoms to the side, no one will notice.”
You moaned softly, wanting nothing more than for him to do exactly that. You weren’t even sure if you could wait to get home at this point, you wanted him inside of you now. He put a hand on each knee and spread your legs apart, whistling in awe at the wet spot on your bathing suit. You felt your face heat up in embarrassment. “I haven’t even touched you and you’re already this wet.”
“All because of you,” you panted, reaching out for him, but he pulled back.
“You know all of your teasing made me lose the game, right? I couldn’t focus because I was so distracted.” You nodded. “I was so fucking hard the whole match because of what you were doing”
And then your dumbass had to open your big mouth. “So Mingyu told you?”
Wonwoo pulled back, and gave you a confused look, clearly caught off guard. “Told me what?”
“Y/n, that was incredible, you were perfect!” Mingyu exclaimed as he ran up to you and Wonwoo, holding out a hundred dollar bill to you.
You winced as you took it, wishing you hadn’t said anything.
“Y/n, what the fuck?” Wonwoo demanded, even more frustrated than he had been a minute ago. “What were you incredible at?”
“Fucking distracting you, dude. I asked her if she’d be in on the bet with me for a cut of the winnings since you guys had more team members.”
Your boyfriend glared at you. “Is that true?”
“I mean, it’s just a game… and I thought it’d be fun,” you said quietly.
“That’s what you guys were talking about earlier, wasn’t it?”
“Yeah, she didn’t need any convincing she was totally down-”
“Mingyu,” you interrupted, pinching the bridge of your nose, “please, if you have any mercy for my pussy please shut the fuck up.”
His face went scarlet and he shut his mouth without further comment.
“So that’s it?” Wonwoo asked, obviously not ready to drop the subject yet. “You’re just gonna sell out your own boyfriend that easy?”
“You said you didn’t want to be on a team with me!”
“Don’t turn this around on me! You’re the one who helped them cheat!”
“Oh I don’t know if I’d call it cheating,” Mingyu interjected again.
“Shut up, Mingyu!” you and Wonwoo both shouted.
“Look, I’m sorry,” Mingyu said quietly. “If I had known it was going to be this big of a deal I wouldn’t have asked her. I just thought I was being clever, that it’d be a fun way to beat you guys, but I’m sorry I went too far.”
Wonwoo sighed and ran a hand through his wet curls. “It’s fine. I’m sorry I overreacted.”
“So… we’re good?” Mingyu asked, holding out a hand to help Wonwoo up.
“Yeah, we’re good. Next time, though, we’re playing fair.”
“Deal.”
“Y/n, you still want to go swimming, love?” Wonwoo asked, turning back to you.
“We’re not- we’re not going home?” Despite everything you were still incredibly horny, and you’d been patiently waiting for Wonwoo to rail you for what felt like hours now.
“Not yet,” he said and helped you to your feet. “Let’s make the most of our beach day.”
“I think the rest of us are going to find an ice cream shop,” Mingyu added. “Winners are buying. Do either of you want anything?”
“No thanks, we’ll hang out here by ourselves for a while.” Wonwoo answered for the both of you.
He wrapped an arm around your waist as you walked down to the water together and you relaxed, enjoying the feeling of his warm skin on yours. Only once you were out of Mingyu’s earshot did he lean down and whisper “your ass is going to be seven shades of red for that little stunt once we get home,” in your ear. Now it was your turn to be distracted.
lmk what you thought; i always appreciate feedback)

The boneyard was a melting pot, pogues, tourons, and kooks unalike all gathering for one of the last kegger's of summer. This mash together of kids from all over Kildare and the mainland always ended in chaos, it was just a matter of time before shit went down tonight.
Rafe had his arm thrown around my shoulders as we walked down the path to the boneyard. I could faintly see Topper and Kelce downing the cups of pogue provided beer. Didn’t matter whether or not the kooks or pogues could get along, as long as it was on the cut and alcohol was provided, the teens could get along for a limited amount of time.
“Hey y/n! What are you doing here? I thought you were leaving for college this week?” It was Sarah who yelled out to me, running up to her brother and I in her floral printed dress. Rafe’s arm dropped to his side as she came with Topper not far behind.
“Oh I just couldn’t miss my last kegger before leaving, Duke can wait on me one more day.” The two of us embraced in one of those hugs that has you shifting your weight from side to side. I guess she didn’t realize I wouldn’t leave for college for another month, but I was sure she was already too drunk for me to explain it to her that she was not thinking of the right month.
As Sarah was hanging onto me probably a little too tight, Topper was giving Rafe one of those looks that said everything but also nothing at the same time. Like prior knowledge had to be known to understand the context. I of course did not, those two always had some stupid shit planned and I can almost guarantee it had to do with messing up the pogues’ little party.
The sun hung low on the horizon after I had finished my third cup, the colors illuminating the sky so brilliantly it felt like a fantasy. I stripped off my top and headed for the water, the pinks and purples of the sky reflected in its crashing waters. It was so cold, the temperature sent shivers up my body and a familiar rush in my energy. Almost waist deep now, I submerged my body completely under the water. It was always how I remembered it, calm and refreshing.
“C’mon Rafe! Don’t be a little bitch and get in there, I see the way you look at her,” Topper spewed, pushing his friend to have a little courage.
“Man what the fuck are you even talking about?” Deny everything Rafe thought.
“Oh come on dude, you’ve been making please love me eyes at her since the sixth grade, and please fuck me eyes at her since the tenth, when are you gonna do something about it for once? You’ve got a month to make a move, or regret it your entire life,” Topper continued his monologue as Rafe tuned him out, too distracted by the girl, his girl, staring out into the Atlantic like it was calling to her.
His heart was pounding as he made a B-line for the water, a light jog, but not so fast someone would think he’s crazy, or just madly in love. He swiftly pulled his polo over and off his head before plunging into the chilly water. Topper clearly knew whatever he'd said had worked.
I heard him before I saw him, Rafe approached and submerged himself just as I had a few minutes before.
“If we get hypothermia I'm sending you my hospital bills.” He laughed, wading around in the shallow water.
“Oh shock! Rafe Cameron threatening his medical bill payments? I never could’ve guessed!” We enjoyed our few minutes of peace before talking again.
“But it’s basically impossible anyways, you get use to it after awhile, maybe it’ll calm your hot-headed ass down,” I giggled and prepared for what always came next. Rafe pickup me up around my waist, lifting me over his shoulder before attempting to sprint as fast as he could deeper into the water. His hands had been wrapped around the back of my knees for a few moments until he threw himself and I down into the deeper water, both of us completely submerged beneath the surface.
The sun was dipping below the horizon now, and the deep blue of the sky was beginning to envelop the boneyard. We had come up for air, and I began splashing him with the water around us, payback for his antics. Theres no way in hell I’d be able to throw him down into the water too, this was the best I could come up with. The two of us were laughing before Rafe grabbed my arms and twisted me around so my back was flesh against his front. I gave up on trying to fight him off. Instead I just rested against him in an attempt to catch my breath.
“Hey Rafe, can we talk about something?” Oh fuck she knows, he thought. This was gonna be it, it’s going to fuck up his entire plan.
“Yeah, uh sure, like here?” He questioned.
“Maybe not here, I think we’ve got as audience,” he knew she was referring to Topper and Kelce, they were watching from the beach.
"The truck then?" I nodded my head, not at all prepared for the favor I needed to ask of him.
The sand stuck to my feet as we headed back to where his truck was, the chilly air wrapping around my body. Rafe opened the backseat door and pulled out a towel for me, always prepared. He pulled the passenger side door and I slid into the seat, the heat of his car pumping through the interior. My heart was pounding, but I wasn’t sure if his was too. We made it about halfway to tannyhill before speaking.
“Soooo,” he said.
“You’re going to think I’m absolutely crazy, Rafe," I laughed in an attempt to hide my nervousness.
"First of all, you're already crazy, and second of all, I'm pretty sure I know exactly what you're going to say," his hands were clenching the steering wheel harder now.
""Oh really? You already knew that I was going to ask you to take my virginity?" I don't know why, but I just blurted it out.
His car came to a screeching halt on the side of the road, lunging me forward as he stared in disbelief at the road infront of him.
"Im sorry, what did you just say?"
"That I want you to take my virginity? V-card? Cherry? Damn Rafe how else am I supposed to say it?"
"And," there was a pause in his voice like he didn't believe me, "your being serious, correct?"
“Correct.”
“And, come again? I need to hear that one more time.”
“Jesus fuck Rafe, I’m being dead serious, I want you to take my virginity, what about that is so hard to explain?” It came out as more of a yell than a scream, he took a long sigh and ran his fingers through his hair. He was thinking long and hard, I knew because he always had something to say, and now he wasn’t saying anything at all. It felt like hours had past before he spoke again.
“Why?”
It was my turn for a long sigh.
“Well, I guess I’ve been thinking about it for awhile, and I want to do it, but whenever I think about it in my head the only person I can see doing it with is you. You’re the only person I trust enough with my own body, I mean shit,” I had to think for a long time before admitting what came next.
“Whenever someone, you know like Scarlet or whoever, asks about who I’m interested in or whatever it may be, not a single person ever comes to mind except you, it’s like all I see when I look at you is you, everything else is like blurred around you and whenever I think about who the love of my life will be, I always think of you, not some mystery guy that I haven’t met yet.” I didn’t plan for this to be a full confession on how I feel about him, but here I am spilling everything I’ve been holding in my heart for the last three years.
“And I know that sounds fucking stupid I know, I mean we’re still teenagers for crying out loud, but when I’m with you it always feels like I’m home.” I was nearly crying at this point, struggling to get the words out of my chest that had been waiting for so long. He was listening, deadly quiet, and I had no idea what he was thinking for once in my life.
“You know what? Just forget about it, can you take me home please?” I was definitely crying now, it felt like I’d ripped my own heart to shreds. Theres no way he could ever feel the same way about me, he protected me like I was his own blood, not like he was in love with me. My face was nestled into the sleeve of my hoodie as the tears came out. His hands had moved back to the steering wheel now, gripping onto it so tight I thought it might break. The muscles in his forearms almost looked like they were twitching, but he still had the car in park.
He wanted to just grab her and kiss her right now, the girl he'd been in love with since the sixth grade sitting in his passenger seat, her seat, confessing her feelings to him. Rafe knew it was alot for her to ask, but it meant even more to him everything that she had said after her original question. And there was no way in hell he was going to let her get away again.
Rafe reached his hand over to hold onto her tear stained cheek.
"y/n," The bother of them were breathing heavily.
"I'm in love with you," it slipped from my mouth and he leaned in to kiss me. It felt like I had a wave of electricity coursing through my body. His hand grasping onto my face as he leaned over the center console. My hand reaching for his chest, his lips on mine as we intertwined with one another. It felt like everything in my life was complete, and the tension has been released. His fingers tangled in my hair.
It was over before I realized it, and Rafe was driving me home. My breathing hadn't normalized in any way, it was like I needed to throw up my heart to get the knot out. I couldn't stop thinking about the way his had felt on me, the way his lips felt on mine, the way it felt for once in my life like I was loved.
"i'll think about it," his voice cracked.
I leapt out of his car as fast as I could with tears streaming down my face. Did he feel the same? Did he not? My brain was spinning so fast I barely made it inside my bedroom door before collapsing. I wrapped myself up in the thick comforter, a heart full of ache and a body exhauster with sleep.

Sonic The Hedgehog 2 Film Review
Sonic has raced back to the silver screen in a sequel that takes everything that was great about the original and charges it up. As he faces threats both new and old, Sonic makes new friends and learns what it takes to be a real hero.
Sonic The Hedgehog 2 stars Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic. The film also features Sonic veteran Colleen O’Shaunessey as the voice of Tails and Idris Elba as the voice of Knuckles. James Mardsen and Tika Sumpter also return as Tom and Maddie Wachowski.
Tumblr media
I found this movie to be more than generally acceptable. I think they did a good job of expanding on the first film. The writers added two more classic characters and more plot elements from the lore of Sonic. Sonic really got his time to shine in this one. Getting to see him adventure with Tails and battle with Knuckles not just physically but also  ideologically was very fun. He’s one of the most purely good characters in cinema right now, and it’s nice to see a hero who is willing to save the day no matter what.
Tails and Knuckles were both great in the film. Knuckles was the fun and reliable sidekick he’s always been. He was integral to the plot and one of the brightest parts of the film. He looked cool using his powers and he also got to ride a plane, which was a nice touch. Knuckles proved to be a worthy foil to Sonic. His character arc through the film was good, better than I expected. I’d compare him to Drax from the GoTG films, except with his feelings of revenge focused towards Sonic and instead of Dr. Robotnik.
Tumblr media
The additions of these characters, as well as the introduction of the Chaos and Master Emeralds, are all great ways the filmmakers have expanded the sequel with the help of the lore of Sonic. It made the film feel bigger, and gave it the feel of an adventure film as well as a superhero film. It also made Knuckle's connection to Sonic more personal, and more tragic. Also this film has a mid credits scene that introduces another classic Sonic character that I know will be really cool.
The other human characters have less screen time this time around but they were still crucial to the plot. The Wackowskis and Wade all helped Sonic and Tails save the day. I actually enjoyed Maddie’s sister in this one more than the last one, especially when she helped Maddie save Tales from a new secret government task force led by “Olive Garden Guy” from the first movie. Also how Shemar Moore looks absolutely chiseled at 51 is beyond me. I need to get me one of those Hollywood personal trainers.
This. Film. Looks. Amazing. The animation quality is some of the best I’ve ever seen, especially in a video game adaptation. Sonic and friends were able to keep their iconic looks from the games while mostly looking like they could exist in our world. The hair animation is flawless, the texture and follicles were impeccable. There’s a moment where Sonic washes up onto a beach and the sand realistically gets stuck in his hair. Props to the CG department because they really went all out on this movie. It just shows that everybody working on this film really cares about the final product.
Tumblr media
I knew I had to end my analysis of the film with a bang, and what better a bang than talking about the human-cartoon acting god that is Jim Carrey. I enjoyed every second that Jim Carrey was on the screen. He was goofy, quirky, and absolutely unhinged. It was as if he fully channeled his Riddler energy into his performance this time around, because he was on a whole new level of bonkers in Sonic 2. It’s like his Riddler walked so his Dr. Robotnik could run. If this is the last time we see Carrey on the silver screen, then he gave us a really god damn fun one.
Tumblr media
In closing I highly recommend you watch this delight in a theater. Get yourself a big ol bucket of popcorn, with extra butter of course, and just let yourself feel joy again. Sonic exists to bring joy to children and the parents that introduce Sonic to them. To bring joy to the older siblings who want to show their younger siblings the fun hero and all his friends. Sonic exists to bring people together. Paramount, keep everyone on board, they are making the most solid video game movies to date. And one last thing, do you have the number of Shemar Moore’s personal trainer? I wanna have nice muscles like him. Please Paramount, help a guy out!

requested | yes "Sbsijabuhshudhjd first of all I love your dni? It's so simple and to the point but bits all the main points andit's amazing. Second of all do you think you could do some sort of Eric lifeguard/ beach au?"
a/n | ahhh I was so excited when I saw this request hehe, hopefully I did it justice and you enjoy :DD also @moonshineboyz hehe :D
it was the first day of summer break, your first grueling year of college was finally over and you and your best friends decided to rent a beach house for the first two weeks of break. once you all arrived and got situated in the house you ran for the beach, the beach was actually like the backyard of the house. all you had to do was slide open the back door and cross the narrow street and you were met with the fine, hot sand of the beach.
it was the first day, you all got ready bright and early in the morning to go watch the first wave of early surfers. a few of your friends were going to surf too though, you’d always wanted to learn but never really had time. and for now you were content with just enjoying the show. time passed quickly and the first wave of early morning surfers departed, the sun began to shine down onto the sand and the few friends who were surfing came back to set their boards in the sand. soon enough it was afternoon and you were all in the water, some surfing, some splashing others, and some casually wading through the water.
after some time you step away from the group to reapply your sunscreen. you stood up, making your way back to the array of colorful beach towels each belonging to one of you, and squatted while rummaging through your bag to find the sunscreen. eventually, you find it and stand up, but hit your head on the umbrella directly above, “ouch-” you hiss and rub the crown of your head. “hey-” you hear a voice from behind say while chuckling slightly, “you okay there?” you turn around only to be met with a boy around your age, with a tall, athletic build and deep brown eyes. “o-oh” you jump a little startled by him, you weren’t sure what you had been expecting but it certainly wasn't him. “yeah I’m fine, just hit my head on the big ass umbrella” you shake your head and he nods with a laugh.
“be more careful next time, never know what’ll be enough to concuss that pretty little head of yours” eric says half-joking about the concussion part, before winking at you and running back down the beach. you stared at him, awestruck and your eyes followed him until he eventually reaches a lifeguard tower and climbs up. “Oh, a lifeguard? hm, I guess that makes sense” you shrug, nodding slightly while remembering the bright red shorts he had been wearing. you stare off for a few more moments before a pair of hands rests on your shoulders, gripping tightly from behind. “hey y/n! You took forever and we’re all done in the water so we’re gonna head back and then get ready to get dinner at this place on the pier” she grins before beginning to pack everything up and you do the same.
that night at dinner you sat at the table, surrounded by friends, overlooking the water as a cool breeze swept through the air. it was perfect, the evening went on without a hitch and everyone could tell that this would be the perfect getaway. yet the entire night, only one thing...well person, was on your mind. “that damn lifeguard.” you huff under your breath, fist just barely slamming down onto the table gently. later on, after arriving at the house, you all settled in and got ready for bed. turned over on your side, with the comforter pulled tightly around you as you thought aloud, “i don’t even know his name-” you sigh softly before drifting off to sleep.
the next few days passed in a flash, filled with busy days, doing essentially everything you can at the beach. you saw him occasionally from afar but never had another close encounter with him like that day. before you knew it the last day had approached, it was already friday and you were set to leave on saturday morning. “this whole time and I never saw him again” you groan and lay on your back, sprawled on the cool hardwood floors of the house.
all of a sudden one of your friends comes bursting through the door, “guys! Guess what? there's a party on the beach tonight that some of the other surfers told me about, and they invited all of us” she grins while scanning the room “we should probably head down there around 8 so you have a few hours to rest up and get ready” she hums before turning on her heel and heading to the bedrooms.
“ugh, is it worth it though? it’s just gonna be a bunch of drunk people, nothing we can’t see at parties we normally go to” you groan softly before hearing a voice behind you. “not even if that cute lifeguard is there?” you turn to see another of your friends teasing while raising a brow. “I- how did you even know about him?” you state, mouth dropped open slightly while clutching a pillow to your chest. “it was obvious, a few of us were watching you guys the other day when you were putting on sunscreen,” they say, eliciting a string of laughs from a few others.
“well- no, he probably won't be there. I shouldn't get my hopes up” you sigh and sit up, scratching the back of your head. “i guess I should still go get ready though, just in case” you mumble the last part, a small grin spreading across your face at the possibility of eric being there.
back in the bedrooms, you brushed by the two others that occupied the room with you, each of you starting to get ready. you settled on wearing a navy blue swimsuit under a comfortable pair of running shorts you found in your bag and an oversized sweatshirt that almost went down to your knees. the swimsuit was just in case anyone decided to go for a night swim and the sweatshirt in case it got cold. after getting dressed you made your way to the living room, sitting on the couch while throwing your hair up into a messy ponytail while you were all waiting for the last few people to be ready.
eventually, everyone crowded into the living room and you all set off across the street to the beach. as soon as you hit the sand you slipped off your shoes and let your feet sink into the san. continuing to walk until you all reach a large group of people, slightly scattered around within each other at different fire pits. after some time you had a drink or two and a red solo cup in hand, filled with an unknown mixture courtesy of your best friend. taking a sip from the cup, a feeling of boredom envelopes you, prompting you to wander off to a rock ledge hanging a foot or two above the water.
what you didn’t know as you swung your legs in the air while hanging off the ledge, was that you caught eric’s attention, and a long time ago at that. in fact, you had caught his attention back during the umbrella scene, he thought your reactions were simple adorable. he’d even seen you a few more times throughout the week but didn't want to approach for fear of being seen as ‘creepy’.
eric watched as you wandered off, ending up on the hidden little rock, and decides to follow you. “hey, mind if I join?” you hear a smooth voice ask gently from behind you, sitting down beside you while you nod. turning to face the mystery person seated beside you, a gasp slips past your lips rather unexpectedly. “oh...it’s you” you mumble under your breath, a bit embarrassed. “me?” eric questions in response while raising an eyebrow, amused “what does that mean, darling?”
“nothing” you quickly shake your head and place a hand on your cheeks, now burning up “I just didn't expect to see you here... I mean I was hoping I would, but-” by the time you caught your words it was too late, “hoping? have you been hoping you would see me since we talked the first time?” he asks with a small smirk spread across his lips “i- well maybe...” you admit in a hushed tone and his smirk breaks into a slight grin. “well maybeee I’ve been hoping to see you again too~” he hums in a teasing tone while inching closer to you, now so close that your shoulders are touching.
you blush at the gap between the two of you being closed and look at him, tilting your head to the side, “why are you over here anyway?” you ask quietly and eric smiles before responding, “well, the party was getting to be a little much anyway and then I saw a pretty little thing wandering off over here and decided to follow. it was just a bonus that it turned out to be the person I’ve been hoping to see all week, maybe even fate” he ends with a wink as he looks out into the darkness enveloping you both. “fate hm?” you question whilst staring up into the same deep brown eyes you saw earlier that week, “yes” eric answers simply before brushing a strand of hair from your face, allowing the moonlight to filter through the few clouds in the sky and shin down onto your skin. you were quite literally glowing and he was mesmerized by you, absolutely captivated. eric slowly leans in with his eyes closed, yours following suit and fluttering shut as his lips meet yours. the soft skin of your lips melting against his, a feeling he’ll never forget...even in a million years.
he pulls away, meeting your eyes immediately and gazing into them, "mhm, it was definitely fate" he concludes confidently as he flashes a toothy grin at you. "you think so? we just met a few days ago though" you reply, quirking a brow. "well everything has to start somewhere right? and after all, we have the whole summer ahead of us" eric hums quietly, wrapping his arm around your shoulder as the soothing sounds of the waves crashing against the rocks below echo through the air.

TW: I don’t know how to tag this but basically Wilbur doesn’t know you can’t swim and he puts you underwater and then has to pull you out.
Y/N’s never been good with deep water seeing as they can’t swim. But when her friends want to go to the beach, they can’t deny them their request. Trouble ensues as Y/N doesn’t tell their boyfriend of their inability to swim.
Y/N’s POV
I glared in distaste at the swimsuit that sat on the bed that Wilbur and I shared. Today we were going to the beach. Tommy had convinced his father to drive him four hours to come meet up with Wilbur, Philza, Tubbo, and me. Tommy would be here for a few days and he wanted to do a bunch of things that he wouldn’t be able to do in his own city. Going to the beach was one of them.
Normally, I would have no problem submitting to Tommy’s wishes, it was easier than fighting him about it. But there was one small problem that no one knew about. I can’t swim. When I was little my father took me to a pool and left me on my own for a while. I then went under and almost drowned. I was pulled out but that memory lives in my head rent free. So ever since then, I refused to go near bodies of water and therefore I never learned how to swim.
Of course I wasn’t going to tell anyone that, let alone Tommy. Do you know how badly I would get made fun of for being my age and not knowing how to swim? Really badly. So I decided to keep my mouth shut and stupidly agree to go to the beach with my friends and boyfriend.
“Hey darling. It’s almost time to go, are you ready?” I heard Wilbur wonder softly from the other side of our bedroom door. “Oh! Yeah, I’ll be right there!” I called back matching his tone. “Alright, I’ll see you in a few then.” He responded. I listened closely as his footsteps faded away as he walked down the hall. I let out a huff of air and picked up the swim suit.
I quickly stripped out of my clothes and slipped on the suit, the cold fabric causing chills to run down my spine. I proceeded to slip on some clothes over the suit so I wasn’t just walking around in that. I also quickly packed a bag with an extra set of clothes just in case I wanted to change later. Lastly, I grabbed my towel, sunglasses, and shoes before exiting the bedroom. I slowly made my way down the hall to the living room and found Wilbur there lounging on the couch.
Wilbur glanced over his shoulder at the sound of my footsteps with a smile. “You ready now baby?” He asked, standing up. I matched Wilbur’s smile and nodded at his question. “Yeah, I’m ready.” Wilbur took a few steps and pressed a small kiss to my lips causing me to grin. “You simp” I teased, walking toward the front door, slipping my flip flops on. Wilbur let out a loud laugh as he followed behind me. “Only for you”
*Small time skip*
I let out a sigh as I got out of the passenger side of Wilbur’s car. The sound of the waves crashing and birds cawing greeted me as the two of us met at the front of the car. Wilbur gave me an excited grin as he offered his hand to me. “I’m so excited for this.” I fake a grin, taking his hand and intertwining our fingers, “Me too!” I lied.
“Wilbur! Y/N!” I heard Tubbo’s voice call. The two of us turned and found Tubbo standing down the beach next to Tommy and Phil, waving frantically at us. We both chuckled and waved back with our free hand and began to walk toward them. “Hey guys!” I greeted cheerfully, letting go of Wilbur’s hand and pulling Tubbo into a hug. “Hey!” They all greeted me back matching my enthusiasm. We all quickly exchanged hugs before making our way down the beach a little further.
The five of us quickly set up our little spot. Each of us laid out a towel and stripped off our outer clothes. Tubbo and Tommy immediately began running toward the water, “Boys!” I called, stopping them in their tracks, “Forgetting something?” I questioned, shaking a bottle of sunscreen. The two slowly walked back to me and stood in front of me holding out their arms. I let out a laugh but began spraying the boys down with the sunscreen. Once I was done, I shooed the boys away and they ran back to the water.
After I sprayed myself down, I felt arms wrap around my waist from behind. “I didn’t know you were a parent” Wilbur murmured in my ear, pressing a kiss to the side of my head. I giggled and turned around to face him, placing my hands on his now bare chest. “Well someone has to take care of them. And if it’s me so be it.” I hummed, grinning at his smiling face. Wilbur chuckled before he leaned down and pressed our lips together in a quick kiss. “Come on now. Let’s get in the water.” He said, attempting to pull me to the water. His attempts didn’t work though because I remained where I was. “You go ahead. I’ll catch up in a bit.” I lied, knowing I probably would never get in the water. “You sure?” Wilbur questioned, his steps hesitating. I gave my boyfriend a reassuring smile and nod. “Yeah, go!” I insisted, pushing him to the water. Wilbur gave me one last smile before turning and jogging toward our three friends.
I quickly laid down on the towel that I previously laid out and closed my eyes. I let out a deep breath as I relaxed at the feeling of the warm sun on my body. My hope was that I could get by just laying here sunbathing until they got done with the water. I should have known better.
After a while of me just chilling on the blanket, I was startled by arms scooping me up from my towel. My eyes shot open and found my boyfriend with a stupid grin on his face. “Wilbur, what are you doing?” I questioned, slightly panicked as he began to walk back toward the water. “I have decided you’ve been sunbathing enough and you will now be joining us in the water.” He announced. My heart pounded as his feet hit the edge of the water and he kept wading in, me still trapped in his arms. “Wilbur please. I don’t want to go in. Set me down now.” I begged. Wilbur didn’t listen and kept going deeper in the water. “You ready?” He questioned once the water was just barely touching me. “No! Wilbur please!” I pleaded softly with the giant. He didn’t seem to hear me over the roar of the wave. “Go!” He yelped getting ready to launch me. “Wilbur I can’t swim!” I finally shouted hoping it would stop my boyfriend.
It was too late though, Wilbur had let me go and I was flying through the air. I let out a scream as I flew into deeper water. Right before I went under, I caught sight of my boyfriend. His eyes were wide and he was as pale as a ghost. My body slammed into the water and I was submerged. I was in too deep of water to just stand up. Wilbur had taken me out to where the water met the middle of his chest and then threw me even further. The man is 6’5 so it’s no surprise I couldn’t reach the bottom. I flailed as hard as I could. Trying desperately to reach the surface again. But I just felt like I was sinking more. A pit formed in my stomach as the memory of my dad leaving me in the pool flooded my mind. My lung ached as my body began to run out of oxygen. I couldn’t believe this was how I was going to die.
As my vision began to darken, something grabbed my arm. With one big motion, I was pulled out of the water. I coughed as I scrambled to wrap myself around whatever had just pulled me out of my watery panic. I took deep breaths trying to restore my oxygen intake but also to calm myself down. A gentle hand found its way on my back, rubbing up and down. As I calmed down, I was able to hear Wilbur whispering sweet nothings in my ear trying to reassure me and calm me down even more.
Wilbur quickly brought the two of us back to the sand. He attempted to set me down, but I wouldn’t let him. My arms remained wrapped around his neck and legs around his waist tightly. So instead, Wilbur simply sat down on his towel. “You guys can go back to playing” I heard him tell the others.
A few minutes passed as we sat there in silence before I let out a shaky breath and slightly pulled away from the embrace. “Y/N. I am so so so sorry. I had no idea you couldn’t swim. I know that’s no excuse because I should have listened to you when you said to stop. I feel so horrible. I’m so sorry.” Wilbur apologized, his eyes glossy from unshed tears. “Thank you,” I croaked out, “for apologizing. I know you didn’t know and I’m sorry for not telling you sooner. But you’re right. You should have stopped when I said so. But I forgive you, just don’t let it happen again. Or you’ll be in deep trouble” I teased, a weak smile adorning my face.
Wilbur let out a small laugh, a single tear rolling down his cheek, “Believe me. It never will.” I let out a small laugh as well before leaning back in close and hugging him tightly. “I love you” I murmured into his neck. Wilbur’s hand came up to the back of my head and tugged me tighter to him. “I love you too.”
“Are you guys done being gross? I would like to check on Y/N as well.” I heard Tommy pester from behind me. The two of us laughed as we broke apart. I slowly stood from Wilbur’s lap and turned around and found the other three standing there, looks of concern planted on their face. “I’m okay guys.” I confirmed walking forward, “Really.” Tubbo was the first to move. He ran forward and wrapped his arms around me, burying his face in the crook of my neck. I quickly hugged the boy back. It didn’t take long for Tommy and Phil to also join our hug. “I’m alright. I just think I’ll stay away from water I can’t stand up in for a long time.” I joked. A chuckle ruffled through the group.
The hug broke up after a few more minutes of just standing there. The five of us decided that we’d had enough excitement for one day and chose to leave and go grab something to eat somewhere. As we packed up, Tommy turned to me with a confused look, “Hey Y/N… Why would you agree to come to the beach if you hate deep water and can’t swim.” I shrugged as I laid my towel over my arm, “You and Tubbo really wanted to and I would do anything for my boys.”
“Awwww!” The four boys let out, giving me a fond look. I rolled my eyes and pushed the shoulder of the person closest to me, which just so happened to be Tommy. “Shut up.” I muttered, walking away from the group toward the car. “Y/N! Wait! Come back!” Tubbo called. “No! I’m hungry, let’s go!” I called in return causing a rush of footsteps to pound toward me. I let out a squeak as arms wrapped around me and lifted me off the ground, swinging me around. I giggled as my feet returned to the ground once more. I turned around and of course found Wilbur standing there with a goofy smile on his face. Wilbur’s head ducked down and he pressed a sweet kiss to my lips. I sighed in contentment at the feeling and leaned further into the kiss.
“You know, when you said you were hungry, I thought you meant for food.” Phil teased beside us. Wilbur and I broke apart, a blush adorning the both of our faces. “Phil! There are children around!” I exclaimed, pushing his shoulder slightly. Phil let out a loud laugh before responding, “I think you need to remember that as well.” I looked over and found Tubbo and Tommy with a fake grossed out look on their faces. I rolled my eyes and giggled at their nonsense…. “Last one to the car is a rotten egg!” I yelled out before booking it to the car. “Hey! Not fair!” I heard Tommy shout from behind me. Today may not have gone the smoothest. But I’m glad I got to spend it with the people I care about most.
There you go! I hope you enjoyed! If so, be sure to leave a like.
And remember kids: If someone says no, they mean no. Don’t try to convince them to do it anyway. No means No. Do not be responsible for someone’s death because you pushed them in deep water and they couldn’t swim.

JILY AUGUST CHALLENGE | @nah-she-didnt vs @floreatcastellumposts
summer + ok so I almost drowned in the sea whilst body boarding and yeah you saved me but hEY don’t laugh
Read here or on AO3
Lily Of The Sea
Absolutely mental. He must have been absolutely mental to agree to any part of this.
First, there was the fact that he had chosen to spend a week in Wales with Remus when he should have been training for football season. That decision alone would surely ruin his life when he showed up back at school completely out of shape and got booted from the team.
Second, while James liked spending time with one of his best mates, Wales was bloody boring. Remus lived in a charming little cottage with his charming parents in a charming town that had absolutely nothing for a couple of teenage boys to do. There wasn’t even a damn cinema for them to waste away in for the summer. Really, how did people live like this? It was only out of sheer boredom that he’d agreed to spend the day at the beach in the first place. He usually made it a point to avoid the beach at all costs, but these were desperate times indeed.
Herein lay James’ third, and stupidest, decision. He must have been absolutely bloody mental to agree to wade out into the frigid mass of water before him that was the sea.
He turned to throw Remus another reproachful look. “Do I have to do this?”
“Yes!” Remus called over from his spot on the shore. He looked perfectly content, and dry, as he watched James’ slow march to his certain death. “Your fear of open water is, frankly, embarrassing. It’s high time you nipped it in the bud.”
James winced as the water lapped at his shins, blistering his sun-warmed skin with icy cold. “I thought you said you were right behind me?”
Remus grinned. “Oh, you don’t need me. You’re doing brilliantly.” James couldn’t help but notice the mirth in his friend’s voice.
It was true, he did harbor an embarrassing fear of the sea. And why shouldn’t he? The water was so dark you could barely see three inches below the surface. Surely some unknown horror came closer with every step.
James swore loudly. “Rem, I hate this. It’s bloody freezing!”
“It’s the Irish Sea, what do you expect?”
“Damn the Irish then!”
“Mate, you’re English, I don’t think you’re allowed to say that.”
And so, James plowed onward, cursing Remus under his breath. The water was now up to his knees. He could feel the hair on his legs standing at attention as goosebumps emerged from his skin.
However, as he became more and more submerged, something in James began to change. The water was so cold it nearly took his breath away but it also filled him with a new resolve. It wasn’t so bad, really. He could do this.
With that thought, he plunged forward, brought his hands together above his head, and dove straight into an oncoming wave.
He hadn’t been prepared for how quiet underwater was. He was vaguely aware of the wave crashing above his head, but the force of it merely rocked him backward gently. He tried his best to open his eyes but the saltwater stung so fiercely that he shut them tight again. After a few moments of floating beneath the waves, James found his feet below him again and pushed up toward the surface.
He heard Remus’ triumphant whoop as his head broke the surface. He straightened up, embarrassed to find that the water was only about three feet deep, and shook his hair out of his eyes like a dog. “There,” he shouted in Remus’ direction, “I’ve done it. Now, will you come out here with me, please? I don’t need a bloody babysitter.”
Remus sighed loudly. “Yeah alright. Plus, if you drown, I’m sure you’d rather be saved by a fit lifeguard than by me.”
“Too true.”
They spent the next half hour lounging in the water. It was still freezing cold, but James found that it did not bother him so much now. The sun, in a rare moment of favor, had decided to shine bright and warm on the beach today. Remus showed James how to lie back and float so that his top half could be drenched in warmth while his back half rocked with the waves. The effect was actually quite lovely. Perhaps he wasn’t so mental after all.
It was at this very moment that he heard the muffled sound of a whistle.
“Wha-?” James said stupidly as he sat up from his float, pulling his head and ears out of the water so that he could hear properly, “what was that? Remus?”
But Remus was gone. It was only then that James realized how far he had floated from the safety of the beach. He was at least twenty yards away from the shore now, and Remus was not only a few feet away as he previously thought. James whipped his head around frantically. “Remus!”
“Riptide!” Remus’ voice called from somewhere behind him. He turned to see his friend scrambling up the beach through the surf. “Swim parallel to the beach! Now!”
Shit.
This was why he avoided the ocean. What the hell was a riptide? It certainly didn’t sound good.
James flapped his arms wildly as he swam, trying his best to stay parallel to the shore. Now he could feel the pull of the water on his body, coaxing him further and further out into the vast sea. He had to keep swimming. He had to, otherwise how on earth would he be able to murder Remus?
“You’re a bloody bastard, you know that?” James screamed to his friend as he fought against the sea, “You made me come out here!” He was closer to the shore now, almost at the wave breakpoint, only ten yards from where Remus stood.
“I know, I know, keep going!” Remus called, “You’re almost there.”
James fought with all his might to keep swimming. He really was out of shape after all, but he forced the thought from his mind as he struggled. Nearly there.
Finally, he made it back to the shallows. He stood with a great effort and began to stagger drunkenly toward Remus. “I can’t believe you left me out there alone! You smug toss-”
WHAM.
The wave hit James squarely in the back, knocking him hard into the rough, rocky beach.
His cheek caught the edge of a sharp rock. He felt his skin rip and sting fiercely, but he had bigger problems before him. The strength of the retreating wave was dragging him, helplessly, back into the deep. He tried to stand but he had no idea which way was up. The fall had knocked the wind out of him, and for a moment he truly wondered if he was about to drown.
Then, suddenly, there was warmth. Hands - yes, small, warm hands - wrapped protectively around his chest. Then there were arms, a torso pressed against his back. The last thing he felt before everything went dark was the mysterious body pulling him up, up, up.
...
“Is he dead?”
“Don’t be daft.”
“I’m not. Look at him. He looks dead.”
“He’s not dead, you idiot. He’s breathing just fine. What did you leave him out there for? He can barely swim.”
“We were floating! I didn’t know how far he’d drifted.”
The first thing James noticed was the warmth. His whole body tingled with a warm glow in sharp contrast to the freezing water. The water. Where was the water?
James snapped his eyes open. Two blurry faces swam above him. Remus, who looked concerned, but James only had eyes for the other face that hovered above him. A girl’s face. A very pretty girl’s face.
James blinked. “Am I dead?”
“Apparently not,” Remus sighed, “Christ, James, you really know how to make a scene.”
James barely heard this comment. The girl continued to stare at him, her brow furrowed. She didn’t look all that excited to find that he was alive. The more she looked at him, the more James felt that he’d seen this girl somewhere before.
“Who are you?” He whispered up to her. He hadn’t meant to say it, but he still wasn’t sure that she was not a dream.
“Hold still.” She spoke with a practiced, authoritative voice as she turned away from him to rummage through a red bag at her side. She withdrew a white package that she tore open with her teeth, pulled out a wet cloth, and brought it to his face.
James gasped as the cut on his cheek seared with pain. “Ouch! Blimey, what is that?”
“Rubbing alcohol,” she said, again with that focused voice, “don’t want it getting infected. What month is it?”
“Uh-”
“Evans, let him rest,” Remus protested, “he’s just had a shock.”
The girl shook her head. “We’ve got to make sure he’s not concussed. The month, Potter, what month is it?”
“August,” he said stupidly, “it’s August.”
“Who’s the Prime Minister?”
“Wilson.”
“What’s your name?”
“James Potter, what’s yours?”
This seemed to surprise her. The look of concentration slid from her face as she regarded him cautiously. “Lily.”
James squinted up at her with curiosity. “Of the valley?”
Get it together, you prat said a voice in his head, what a stupid thing to-
To his surprise, she smiled, and his heart did a backflip. “Yeah, sure.” Then she shook her head as if to rid herself of the distraction. “You’re going to be fine. Can you stand?”
James nodded and allowed Remus to pull him roughly to his feet. He steadied himself and reached instinctively up to his throbbing cheek. Lily smacked his hand away.
“What did I just say about infection? Blimey, maybe you are concussed.”
James wracked his throbbing brain. Everything was still a bit fuzzy, but now he was sure that he’d seen this girl before. “How did you know my name?”
Lily shot Remus a knowing look. “We go to school together. In Scotland. Remember?”
James felt his cheeks grow hot. That’s how he knew her, he’d seen Remus hanging around with a cute redhead before. “Ah - yeah, ‘course. Sorry I didn’t recognize you.”
She shrugged as she bent down to pack up her first aid kit. “Why would you? I’m not a footballer, not a posh kid, no big deal.”
James frowned. “I have plenty of friends who aren’t footballers or ‘posh kids,’” he said as he made quotation marks with his fingers. It was hard to keep the defensive edge out of his voice. She made him sound quite shallow. He motioned earnestly toward his friend. “Take Remus over here.”
“Thanks, mate.”
“Anytime.”
“Look,” Lily straightened back up, a look of annoyance on her face, “I’m sure you’ve got lots of friends and all, I just meant that we don’t exactly run in the same crowd.”
“But you know Remus. I heard you call him an idiot before.” James glanced at Remus, who looked like he wasn’t sure if he should stay for this tense conversation or disappear back into the safety of the water. “He only lets his very best friends call him that.”
Lily raised her eyebrows. “Really? His friends sound swell.”
Remus, still looking uncomfortable, finally cut in. “We knew each other before school,” he said quickly, looking from James to Lily, “from when we were kids.”
Lily nodded. She was starting to look downright testy now, but James could not for the life of him figure out why. “I used to spend the summers here with my aunt, and we met as kids. We used to go swimming on this beach all the time.” Her face softened at the memory. “It was lovely, actually. I used to love to swim. Haven’t had much time for it lately, until today.”
“Why not?” James persisted. It seemed that every question he asked did nothing more than to elevate her already defensive mood. He couldn’t help it, he had to keep talking to her. Had to keep making her cheeks flush like that.
Lily jerked her head back toward the lifeguard stand. “Don’t have much time, I spent most of my days working here ‘till sunset.”
“Ah,” James pulled what he hoped looked like a sympathetic face, “I see. Not a fun way to spend a holiday, I can imagine.”
Very unfortunately this seemed to be the worst thing he could have possibly said.
“Yeah, well. Some of us have to work to live.” She caught Remus’ eye and said with purpose, “Right. I’ll see you at school, Remus.” And with that, she turned and stalked away, leaving a very stunned James in her wake.
...
“You really cocked that up, huh?.”
“Cheers.”
“No, I mean it. Now she probably thinks you’re some stuck-up, rich brat. Really excellent job on that one.”
“I’m leaving.”
Remus laughed as he grabbed James’ elbow and pulled him back down to sit on the beach. “Christ, you’re touchy today. I’m sorry I almost let you drown, alright?”
James stared out over the glowing pink water. The sea was no less ominous even in the light of the early sunset. He could still feel the waves lapping at his shins, the force of the water smacking his bare back, the pull of the water as he struggled beneath the waves…
He shook his head at the memory. He was safe now, anyway. Thanks to Lily.
“Do you think I’m a stuck up, rich brat?” He refused to look at Remus as he asked the question. Instead, he picked up a large, rough stone and chucked it into the water.
Remus put a hand on his shoulder. “No James, I don’t think that. I think you’re a kind, loyal, and caring rich brat.”
James laughed. “Cheers, mate.”
“Anytime.”
“Give her some time and Lily will see it too. Speaking of...” Remus nodded in the direction behind James.
He turned to see Lily Evans walking toward them. She had pulled a pair of denim shorts over her red lifeguard’s bathing suit, slung a large blue tote bag over her shoulder, and held a half-melted vanilla ice cream cone in each hand.
“Hiya,” she offered as she took a seat next to Remus. James couldn’t tell if it was nerves or embarrassment that kept her from meeting his eyes. “These are for you two. I’m sorry I was a bit harsh before. I mean, you did almost drown, after all.”
James smiled as he accepted the ice cream. “Thanks. And thanks for this, too.”
Remus, however, waved her away as she offered him the cone. “No thanks, I don’t eat dairy.”
James frowned. “You love dairy. I’ve seen you put away an entire wheel of brie in under ten minutes.”
Remus shook his head and stood up, stretching. “No, really. Can’t stand the stuff. I better go find something else more digestible, leave you two alone to talk.”
Lily shot him a dirty look. Remus could not be more transparent if he tried. “I don’t think that’s necessary.”
But Remus was already walking back up the beach. “Too late, see you in a bit!”
“Rem!” James called to his friend, but he merely waved his arm wildly over his head in farewell.
They sat in silence for a few moments with only the crashing of the waves to break the tension. She shifted uncomfortably in her seat. James watched her fidget as he finished his cone. He wondered if it were uncomfortable to sit in those shorts with the back of her legs pressed against the small, jagged rocks that made up the beach. But he couldn’t let himself think for too long about her legs.
“So,” she broke the silence with what sounded like a great effort, “why can’t you swim?”
James sighed. “Oh, let’s just say it’s none of your concern,” he couldn’t bring himself to admit something so embarrassing, “why don’t you like posh kids?”
Lily, to his surprise, laughed. “None of your concern.”
“Are you sure about that? Since I’m apparently an insufferable rich kid maybe I can provide an inside scoop.”
Lily did not laugh this time. Instead, she stared out over the ocean, her vivid green eyes suddenly orange, reflecting the sunset’s light in the choppy water. “I’ve got a friend from school. Well, a friend from home, really. He’s like me, doesn’t have a lot of - of money, and stuff.” She was starting to shift even more now, clearly uncomfortable. James opened his mouth to stop her, but she plowed on. “He made some not-so-nice friends at school. They care a lot about status and all that, so he doesn’t want them to know anything about his home life. Doesn’t want them to know about me.”
James blinked. He’d known this girl only two hours, and he’d seen her in about fourteen different emotional states. He was quite sure he liked them all and wanted to see even more.
“That bullshit,” he said emphatically, “if he doesn’t value you then he’s an idiot. What a prat, giving up a true friend just to social climb.”
Lily smiled sadly. “You’re right, of course. Still hurts, but you’re right.” She shrugged, trying but failing to seem unphased. “Anyway, I think that’s why I was a bit, uh, prickly earlier. Forgive me?”
James just waved his hand dismissively. “Don’t worry about it. I’d be prickly too if it were me. He sounds like a disappointment.” He smiled at shyly, glad that they were approaching something like a friendly conversation, “plus, Remus assured me it wasn’t my finest moment either.”
She smiled again, and another shockwave shot through James’ body. “I forgive you. Friends?”
“Friends with the girl who saved my life? Absolutely.”
Silence fell between them again, but this time the air around them seemed more relaxed. Lily seemed to have found a comfortable position at last. She sat with her legs crossed and her hands placed on the ground behind her, propping her up toward the sea. She had her eyes closed and her head leaned back like she was savoring every roaring crash of waves or whiff of sea air.
“How can you not just love the sea,” she sighed, leaning her head back even further as she sunk into her surroundings, “I don’t know what I’d do without it.”
A few seconds passed before James realized that, at some point, he would have to stop staring at her to answer. “I guess it’s just not for me. You make it look pretty good, though. The sea, I mean.” he said quickly. Very smooth.
Lily, thankfully, ignored his comment. “Tell me the truth,” she turned her head to fix him with an intense look, “why don’t you like the ocean? I shared my trauma, now it’s your turn.”
James sighed. “Alright, I suppose I owe you. I’ve got to warn you, it’s pretty embarrassing.”
She raised an eyebrow. “Try me.”
James paused, trying to decide at the last moment if there was any possible way to tell her the truth and still be respectable in her eyes. There wasn’t.
Finally, he looked at her. “Have you ever seen a movie called ‘Jaws’?”
She pursed her lips, obviously trying not to smile. “Uh, yeah James. I think everyone’s seen that one.”
“Well,” he closed his eyes, preparing for her worst, “I had nightmares for weeks. I don’t know why, but it really got me. I could barely walk through campus puddles on a rainy day. Kept thinking some bloody shark or something was gonna come up, grab my ankle, and pull me in.” He opened one eye to cautiously scan her reaction. “Well? I’m mad, aren’t I?”
He was shocked to find that she was not laughing. Not much, anyway.
“It’s a completely rational fear,” she said thoughtfully, staring out across the blazing water. The sun was almost entirely set now, and soon they’d be engulfed in night. “It’s the fear of the unknown, innit? The anxiety that there’s something unseen lurking around the corner. It’s why people are afraid of spiders and centipedes. All the hidden things that might be there to hurt you. It’s why we wish we could see the future, to be sure that everything is going to turn out alright.”
He knew she was right. He followed her gaze out over the waves. It wasn’t the water that scared him. Wasn’t the searing cold, the slippery rocks underfoot as he plunged further and further into the deep. It was the unknowing, the darkness below him that scared him shitless. “Lily Evans, you are very wise.”
“I know.”
They were silent again, but not uncomfortably so. A strange sense of serenity washed over him. He wasn’t the only one who didn’t know what was out there.
“I could help, you know,” Lily said without looking at him. Instead, she seemed very interested in picking at a hangnail on her thumb.
James raised his eyebrows. “Help me? With swimming?”
“Swimming, the sea, all of it,” she chanced a glance up at him. She really did have the most staggering green eyes he’d ever seen. “I’m pretty good out there, and you clearly need help.”
James laughed. “That bad, am I?”
She grimaced. “Yes, that bad.”
He sighed and glanced back toward the sea. The sun had fully started to set now, and the pink and orange waves looked as menacing as ever. “I dunno… I’m not keen to repeat my near-drowning.”
“Oh, come on,” she winked at him, “a strapping lad like yourself should have no problem swimming in there.”
Strapping? She thought he was strapping?
James forced himself to focus. “The sun’s almost set. What if it gets too dark to see?”
“So?” She pushed herself to her feet, then offered his hand to pull him up. “You can’t see through the water anyway. What’s a little more unknown going to hurt?”
She helped pull him to his feet then began unbuttoning her shorts. James had the self-control to look away, though his hands shook just a bit as he removed his own t-shirt. Together, fully outfitted in their swimsuits, they marched toward the now-purple water.
“Don’t worry, we’ll go slow,” she murmured as they reached the shoreline, “I’ll hold your hand through the whole thing.”
James smirked, “Figuratively, of course.”
As if to spite him, she grabbed his hand and squeezed hard. With a jolt, James remembered that very hand on his chest not two hours ago, pulling him up and out of the same water they charged into now.
“The trick,” Lily said decisively as she stared out at the breaking waves, “is to choose the right moment. You have to wade in past the break line between waves. If you time it wrong, you get creamed. That was your problem last time.”
“Thanks for the reminder.”
“No problem. Ready?”
“Actually,” James hastened, suddenly feeling sick. He wanted to drop her hand and run back, but he found that his skin felt glued to hers. “I think not. Thanks for the offer, but I’m fine being a coward for the rest of my life.”
“Not a chance!” She cried, gesturing out over the water, “Look how far you’ve come! You can’t go back now. I’m not going to let you drown.”
James tried to shoot her with a mischievous grin, but he knew it more closely resembled a grimace. “Promise?”
“Promise. Go!”
And so, Lily pulling at his hand, they sprinted out into the shallows together. The remains of the previous wave rushed merrily alongside their feet and legs as they sprinted into the water. James did not stop running until he could feel the water at his collar bones, his feet skimming the bottom of the seafloor. He felt around with his toes. No sharks or monsters as far as he could feel.
“See?” Lily laughed and splashed him a bit with water, “it’s not so bad. Jump!”
He turned to look just in time. A wave was coming at them fast. He barely had time to push off the ground to sail over it. The two of them soared through the water, over the wave, and back down again as it crashed onto the shore behind them. He laughed with glee and disbelief. His lungs felt icy cold as he gulped down air to keep himself from panicking. It felt like flying, and James suspected he’d been meant to fly all his life. This was easy. This was wonderful.
Suddenly, a wave larger than the rest descended upon them. “Alright, James,” came Lily’s confident voice as she squeezed his hand tighter, “we have to go under this one, alright?”
“What?” He just managed to yell before she pulled him under the wave. Again, there was that eerie stillness, only this time James wasn’t alone in the silence. Lily’s hand was still warm and sure in his own.
And so they flew through the water, dodging and riding and floating over the waves. It was exhausting work which was not made any easier by their fits of laughter every time the other received a faceful of icy water. Finally, when the sky had turned a deep navy, they dragged each other back out of the surf and onto the shore.
Brilliantly illuminated stars scattered across the night sky as they threw themselves back down on the beach. Lily reached into her large tote and produced a beach towel that they shared, taking turns to wipe the saltwater from their eyes and faces. They had barely talked the whole time they swam, just laughed, and gasped for air.
“See?” Lily sighed as she flopped back onto the beach towel, “I told you it’s lovely out there.”
“I stand corrected,” James said as he laid down next to her. He could see her chest and stomach rise and fall with the effort of breathing. “You were an excellent teacher. You’re not Lily of the valley, you’re Lily of the sea.”
She looked at him with a look that he’d come to learn meant she was about to make fun of him. “Have you been thinking of that line the whole time?”
“No!” James said with mock indignation, “No, it’s true. You made me see what all the fuss is about. Thank you.”
Lily grinned at him. She turned onto her side to face him, her head resting on her outstretched arm. He could see her freckles even in the dim light from the stars. He hardly stopped to think before he leaned in, his mouth inches from her own. He could feel her breath, still coming in sharp gasps, against his lips. “Do you think it would be alright if I kissed you?”
She smiled, and his whole body lit on fire. “I’m going to insist that you do, Potter.”
Her lips tasted like the sea. Her hair, when he took the back of her neck into his hand, was coarse and tangled from their swim. The shock of her warm hands on his cold, bare chest nearly caused him to cry out, and she smiled into him. God, she knew exactly what she was doing to him.
It was impossible to know how long they stayed entwined in one another. James had lost all sense of time and space. All he knew was Lily. He knew he could stay like this forever and be just fine.
Unfortunately, Remus had other plans.
“OI!” Came the shout from the darkness. Lily and James jumped apart in alarm. Remus stood a ways up the beach with his arms crossed. It was hard to tell in the dark, but James would bet anything that he was smirking. “You’re not snogging my best mate down there, are you?”
“No!” cried James and Lily in unison.
“That’s what I thought. I hate to break up the party, but James, we’ve got to move. Mum will flip if we get the car back late.”
James nodded. It was a horrible thought, leaving Lily, but he’d seen Remus’ sweet-tempered mum angry only once before. He didn’t wish to repeat the experience.
“I’ve got to run,” he whispered apologetically to Lily. He grabbed her hand in the darkness, and for a moment they could have been back in the water, soaring over waves together. “I’ve got a few more days in town, then back to school. Can I meet you here again tomorrow?”
Lily beamed at him. “That sounds lovely. Maybe at school I’ll even allow you to be seen with me.”
He laughed, then kissed her once more. Remus’ exaggerated cough told him that it was, really, now time to go. “Do you need a ride home?”
She shook her head. “I’ve got my bike. See you tomorrow, then.”
His chest felt like it was fit to burst. They could do this all again tomorrow.
“See you then, Lily of the sea.”
He turned before he could see her roll her eyes again and made his way up the beach toward Remus. He put his hands in his pockets and tried his hardest to stifle the grin that was permanently etched upon his face.
Perhaps he wasn’t so mental after all.
