at this point the good news is still bad news. it was just news you were expecting

#the infectous disease doctor thinks they know what it is now #makes a lot of sense #but treatment is going to be very unfun #because its already proven itself as antibiotic resistant #im just so tired and very scared #i hate that im basically doing this alone too #my parents help me financially with getting treatment for the most part #but they have never been comforters #and everytime i try to talk about how im feeling physically or emotionally #they just shut down #mom gets downright mean and nasty #shes always been like that so its no surprise #she worries of course because she loves me #but her worry has always come out as anger #and ever since i was a kid i was the first person to really face her anger #and dad #well his response is to just focus on other things #ignore the issues #and that might be easy for him #but im the one who feels like they been slowly decaying for the past two years #with doctors and nurses either not caring enough to try and find an answer #or simply lacking the knowledge to find a cause #couple that with insurance that wont even cover a simple chest CT #or my inhaler #(which i was denied for 8 time this year)#and a pandemic that makes people afraid of those who are in any way ill #and you have a recipe for a very isolating experience #i havent spoken with friends in a very long time #i want to reach out but i feel guilty for it #i dont want to pop back in their lives while im so sick because im afraid theyd only stick around because they feel bad and i hate it

my family is fucking addicted to macgyvering and it's becoming a problem. every time something in this house breaks, instead of doing the sensible thing of replacing it or calling someone qualified to fix it, we all group around the offending object with a manic look in our eyes and everyone gets a try at fixing it while being cheered on or ridiculed by the rest.

it's a beautiful bonding activity, but the "creative" fixes have turned our house into a quasihaunted escape room like contraption where everything works, but only in the wonkiest of ways. you need a huge block of iron to turn on the stove. the oven only works if a specific clock is plugged in. the bread machine has a huge wood block just stapled to it that has become foundational to its function. sometimes when you use the toaster the doorbell rings. and that's just the kitchen.

it's all fun and games until you have guests over and you have to lay out the rules of the house like it's a fucking board game. welcome to the beautiful guest room. don't pull out the couch yourself you need a screwdriver for that, and that metal rod makes the lamp work so don't move it. it also made me a terrifying roommate in college, because it makes me think i can fix anything with enough hubris and a drill. you want to call the landlord about a leaky faucet? as if. one time my dad made me install a new power socket because we ran our of extension cords

#this post was inspired by me using a screwdriver to take the broiler off the wall because the warm water stopped working #while my dad went well there is only cables in there. who are we if we dont find our ways around some cables #damn right!!!!

I don't think I've seen anybody talk about how absolutely insane The Boiling Rock is from Hakoda's perspective.

Imagine getting captured, and your son tells you that you won't be apart for too long. That's sweet, but obviously your son has no resources to spare for organizing a breakout. You hope that the Avatar can defeat the Fire Lord soon - that's the earliest time you could hope to be rescued.

You get put into a temporary holding facility until the guards can sort out who is who. After a while, they put you on a prisoner transport to the Boiling Rock. Your captors try to intimidate you by telling you that it's the highest security prison in the Fire Nation, probably the whole world. It's far away from the capital.

You arrive at the Boiling Rock. It really is in the middle of a boiling lake. There's only one way in or out, and it's a gondola that takes you above the boiling lake. You meet the warden. They take you to your cell. You settle down to wait for the end of the war.

And 15 minutes later Sokka comes in like "hey dad I'm here I got the prince of the Fire Nation and an Earth Kingdom ninja leader gf ok let's go I'm busting you out"
